Sheesh Mahal, in Urdu language, literally means 'Crystal Palace'. However, with its pietra dura decorations and intricate mirror-work inlaid into the white marble walls and ceilings creating gleaming effect, the lavish room has come to be known as 'Palace of Mirrors', and sometimes the 'Hall of Mirrors'.Declared a World Heritage Monument by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), 75 per cent of the area of Agra Fort is in possession of the Indian Army, closing it for the tourists. In the remaining 25 per cent part, a majority of the monuments have been cordoned off by the ASI now.Within the Shalimar Bagh, Shah Jahan constructed "Sheesh Mahal" (crystal palace). The Shalimar Bagh had witnessed events of historical significance such as in 1658 AD the coronation ceremony of Aurangzeb took place at Sheesh Mahal.

The luxurious medieval bathroom of the world 'sheesh mahal' is situated near angoori bagh in Agra fort. There were so many reflectors used to be fixed on the walls and roof inside Sheesh mahal but people put a large number of mirrors out of it unfortunately goverment banned the entry, Sheesh mahal has been a centre of attraction ever itself you can still taste the juice of this creative genre from the outside.

It was a fine monument inside Agra Fort.

In the past, this was an imperial bath. Mirrors were used both in its walls and ceilings. When illuminated, they would sparkle the entire hall. However, now, the majority of the mirrors are no longer there. Also, there is a metal barrier so you can only see the hall's interior from outside.

Sheesh Mahal is one of the architectural wonders inside the Khas Mahal in Agra Fort. It was commonly used as the Summer Palace by the Mughal princes as it was structured in such a way that it kept the Mahal cool from Agra’s heat. Water devices were installed with fountains and a waterfall inside the Palace. It was originally adorned with the finest glass pieces imported from Syria in order to reflect sunlight into the thick palace walls.

Star attraction of Agra Fort The 'mirror' room is certainly one of the highlights of Agra Fort - even with the wear and tear of the years, you can just imagine how magnificent it must have looked like in its time with all the related colours and candle lights.

It was built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan as a part of summer palace. Its most distinctive feature is glass mosaic work done on its walls and ceiling. These glass pieces have high mirror quality which glittered and twinkled in thousand ways in semi-dark interior. The glass was imported from Haleb of Syria. Shahjahan built glass palace also at Lahore and Delhi, but this is the finest of all.

Shish Mahal, Red Fort, Agra. Its ceilings glitter with countless mirror pieces set into the faceted plaster vaults. The apartment consists of two halls, both with pools set into the floor, linked by a water channel. Shahi Hamam is a small bath next to the Shish Mahal. Though most of its internal marble facings and columns were removed (some to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London), portions of its faceted plaster vaulting remain. Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

This was built by the Mughal King Shahjahan as a Summer Palace. It has two tanks with fountains, interconnected by a canal, and a water fall(Abshar). These water-devices were provided to keep it cool and comfortable in the scorching heat of Agra. The distinctive feature of this palace is the glass-mosaic work which has been done, on a wide variety of stucco designs, on all its walls and ceilings. Glass-pieces have high mirror quality. As the building is made up of thick walls with only a few openings, the semi-dark interior required artificial light, which glittered and twinkled in thousand ways through this glass-work.
