Review Madhavrao - Ahmedabad

Prof. Satish Deodhar
One of the best restaurants I have ever visited. Retro brick decor, classic furniture, rustic servingware, ambiance spruced up with ceramic potteries, heirlooms, and chandeliers make an enjoyable, unique and traditional Maharashtrian experience. And the choicest menu is the cherry on the top!

Madhavrao is a restaurant serving Maharashtrian and Gujarati cuisine in Ahmedabad. It is located in Prahlad Nagar, and has a distinctive look and feel, with carved wooden cabinets, colonial-style dining chairs, and brick-clad walls. The restaurant also has a number of antiques and artifacts, which add to its charm. The menu at Madhavrao is extensive, and includes a variety of dishes, from traditional Maharashtrian fare, such as Vada Pav and Dal Batti, to more modern dishes, such as Pav Bhaji and Biryani. The food is generally well-prepared, and the portions are large. The service is also good, and the staff are always happy to help you choose the right dishes. Overall, Madhavrao is a great place to go for a meal if you're looking for authentic Maharashtrian and Gujarati cuisine. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is unique and charming.

Interiors takes back to traditional Maharashtrian culture. You will see owner and family photos. Chairs and dinning table are traditional wooden gives you homely feeling. Food menu is limited which loved it. We tried over six dishes all were too yummy. Junka Bhakri, Bajri Khichidi, Sabudana Vada, Pav Bhaji, Gatte Ki Sabji and Satpadi Roti. Staff were too quick and polite.

Absolutely an amazing place for Maharashtrian cuisine. Very good food and service. I love their brass cutlery collection. I hope they work more on desserts, they were just below average. But the food was great overall.

Madhavrao, as the name suggests is a resturant with a Maharahstrian charm. It has an aesthetic sense of its own nowhere to be found. Although I might not say the same when it comes to food. Jhunka bhakri is one of the patent dishes in every Marathi household. But I was surprised that they didn't even come close to it. Same goes with Misal pav. However, Vada Pav was an exception. It was that pure, old, authentic vada, now-a-days rarely found on the streets of Mumbai. But what surprised me and was definitely a breather was Mohanthal with icecream. It was exceptional and sort of jugad only amdavadi's can come with. One of try for those who want to explore Ahmedabad in their own sweet way.

"Madhavrao" is famous for its traditional dishes & as well as dishes from mumbai such as my favourite Bombay style Vada Pav & Misal Pav. This place is good for authentic food like Gujju, Maharashtrian & Rajasthani.. ambiance is really nice warm and cosy, best part service was good with trained staff..Had Vada Pav, Misal Pav, and very unique dish called coconut Uttampam ļæ½ I had the ultimate food experience here.Good thing about this restaurant is they serve delicacies of different Indian state. I just hate this restaurant ,quantity is so less in every dish. They sell costly dishes which donā€™t have anything in it -neither quantity nor taste. I donā€™t understand what they are are selling. They gave a full page ad on front page of times of India so we decided to go on the same they. I donā€™t know why they had given the ad when they are not that good enough . Ordered kothmbari vadi, misal pau, masala dosa, mohan thal, gatte ki sabji n bhakri n after half n hr they said they didnā€™t have khira for dosa!ļæ½ no coordination in the staff! Donā€™t try this!

One of a kind! Menu card at Madhavrao flaunts a unique range of Maharashtrian, Rajasthani & Gujarati cuisines. Beverages like Piyush, Solkadhi, Chaas, Kokum Sarbat are a great way to start off with! Combo Meals on the menuas well offers variety of delectable items like Zunkha Bhakar, Daal Baati, Masaale Bhaat, Gatta nu Saag and to name a few. However, the must-try items from the menu are Thalipith, Jhunkha Bhakar, Kothimbir Vadi and Solkadhi! Also, the retro ambiance of the space very well complements the fine foods taste offered at Madhavrao! The place reflects the royal essence of the bygone-era!

A warm place with soothing ambience serving mouthwatering delicacies especially from Maharashtra. It was a mystery why with so many Maharashtrian people we took so long to have a restaurant serving Marathi food. Thank you Chaitanya for introducing many to Marathi cuisine ļæ½

Sabudana khichdi 0/5 (DO NOT TRY EVER) super tasteless <br/>Sabudana vada 1/5<br/>Puran poli 4/5
Rushir Shah
Ordered Paneer with Lacha Paratha and Kofta with Jawar Bhakhri. Kofta were too blend. Paneer Sabji was a bit too salty. Ambience is nice but food not upto the mark.
Pooja
Great food. Sabudana vada and puran poli were outstanding although the portion which I expected for puran was not there but it was worth the money was it was lip smacking. The only problem was the green chutney which wasn't fresh I guess it was made in morning or so it tasted a bit sour. Rest was thalipeeth and kanda bhaji which were also nice. The packaging was very great and the arrangement. Also it was delivered on time by the zomato delivery boy having contactless delivery. Spot on!
Phelomina Sequeira
All the safety precautions were taken at this restaurant. The ambience was super cool and the place was peaceful. We ordered kanda bhajiya, misal pav and mutter subji and paratha. The first two taste really good. If you want to have authentic Gujarati or Maharashtrian food you should wish this restaurant. The prices are also reasonable.
Setu Dani
Authentic maharashtrian restaurant! Must try Nagpuri Rassa Patoli, though it will be a bit spicy šŸ„µ Better if you order Kokum Sharbat with itšŸ˜‹<br/><br/>Pretty good ambience! Lovely food :)

Super Cool ambience. Super cool interiors. Tasty food. Served hot feels just like had homey food. Well trained and sweet staff. Like the fact that they give mint n cucumber dipped water for drinking. Kotimbir wadi was good but didn't meet our expectations. Rest all was qualitative and quantitative delicious food.

This place is very much underrated as compared to what it has to offer! After a long time, I came across some place where I loved everything which we ordered and the service was also amazing, not to forget the low lighting and quiet ambiance which has a vintage feel to it!<br/>We ordered Dal dhokli - comes with Masala Parathas and a bowl of steamed rice.<br/>The Paneer bhurji and lacchha Paratha platter was also amazing.<br/>There was Pav bhaji too on the table along with Dahiwadas, Biryani, Jalebis and what not!<br/>This place has become a family favorite from now on.

This place has been on my list since a year now! šŸ˜… and finally got a chance to visit it. As it goes, I always want to try out new cuisines and before this, I've never tried Goan cuisine.<br/>Ambience- The place has a heritage feel to it and the sitting area is nice and comfortable<br/>Service- The staff is very well trained and have perfect knowledge about the menu.<br/>Food- At any place, this is my main focus<br/>I tried-<br/>Goan Xitachi Bhakri- Bhakri made of Rava, onions and desiccated coconut. This one was a must try!. Served with White Butter and some unique Green Chilli sauce.(5/5)<br/>Thalipeeth- A Marathi Delicacy. Pretty much similar to our Gujarati Thepla but the flavours are different. This one was a little dry and thick but the sweet curd and White butter made for two good companions šŸ˜†(3.5/5)<br/>Bharela Rotla Lasuni Tameta- The Rotlas were stuffed with some cabbage filling along with the Lasuni Tameta nu shaak which was not like our Sev Tameta but had a nice spice to it. They also served some Dahi which tasted like the traditional South Indian Curd-Rice. Very nice (4/5)<br/>Malpua Rabdi- Warm Malpua with Cold Rabdi and nuts make a brilliant combination! Must try! šŸ‘<br/>This place is 100/100 on the Value for Money parameter.<br/>Overall, I feel this place is heavily underrated and must not be missed outšŸ˜‡šŸ˜˜.

Only if you have excessive money to spend, you can try out this place. Or else, just learn from my experience.<br/><br/>Jusy coz my husband was very keen on trying this restaurant we went there. Isse accha to mujhe shopping k liye paise de deta!<br/><br/>We ordered for 1 sol kadhi, 1 kokam sarbat, 1 sugarcane juice, kanda bhajji, pav bhaji and dum misal.<br/><br/>The drinks were okayish.<br/>Sol Kadhi - Rs. 105<br/>Kokam Sarbat - Rs. 110<br/>Sugarcane juice - Rs. 120<br/><br/>Kanda bhajji was good. - Rs. 160<br/><br/>Pav bhaji had a strong garlicy flavour which was quite overpowering and personally, I didn't like that. - Rs. 250<br/><br/>Dum misal had no DUM. (Could not click presentation pic)<br/>Leave dum, it was nowhere near a misal.<br/>It had black chana in it and the shev used was that of shev bhaji. Even the curry didn't have misal flavors.<br/><br/>Dum misal was for Rs. 320 and it come without pav. You have to splurge an extra Rs. 45 for that pav jodi!<br/><br/>The manager there got to know that we are Maharashtrians and wanted to know our feedback on the food.<br/><br/>When I told him that the misal they are serving is nowhere near to a misal, he told me that earlier they used to serve the authentic one but Gujaratis didn't like it much so they altered it.<br/><br/>They have really done a great job on the interiors and the decor part but I won't pay a bomb to watch that all. We have museums for that.<br/><br/>Anyway, you can either learn from my expensive mistake or try spending your own money for the same.

only if there was an option of 0stars. We went for my fatherā€™s Birthday and were very disappointed. We ordered batae chi bhaji puri and shrikhand combo. <br/>The subzi was stinking as it had gone bad. The chef of the restaurant was not available to help or rectify the problem. The people at the restaurant accepted that the food had gone bad! And also apologised. <br/>I donā€™t understand how can someone serve food that has gone so bad that it was stinking!!! <br/>Never returning to this place again and if anyone has even a little concern for food hygiene will avoid this place!!!

Entering Madhavrao feels like you're in a Peshwai courtyard. The interiors are so amazingly done with attention to details such as the tiles, the electric switches, telephone and the frames on walls.<br/><br/>The staff is polite and well informed. When we went the owners were there and we struck a conversation with them as they figured we're maharashtrians.<br/><br/>We ordered Jhunka Bhakari which was delicious. I was served roti at first but then they quickly changed it to Bhakari. The home churned butter was an added bonus. Another dish we ordered was Misal pav which was average. We had better ones in Mumbai and Pune. For dessert we ordered puranpoli which was good but could be better.<br/><br/>All in all its a good experience if having traditional Marathi and Gujarati dishes but there is a lot of scope on improvement to get an edge over other restaurants which serve similar dishes.

Absolutely Stunning Food !

What a lovely ambiance this place brags off and is rightly so, it is very charming but I can't say the same about the food. I got to try a variety of their choices from the menu - Misal pav, vada pav, thalipith, sabudana vada and some more sabzi bhakri items. Except for the Jalebi and sabudana vada, nothing really stood out and to be honest snacks like Kanda bhajji and sabudana vada are not to be considered something of a culinary arts to brag about here in India. It's only the presentation of food which worked for me. Period.
Dhara Shah
Just an honest suggestion. You should rethink sabudana khichdi recipe. What is been served is very bland. Having known the dish so well, it's no where near to what sabudana khichdi actually is. Please work on it. And make it better. Rest ordered food was tasty. Thank you.
Hiral Panchal
The ambience is good and service is also very good. The food is not awesome though above average.

Such a pathetic packaging you have.<br/>You have ruined my dinner.<br/>You guys know that it's raining so you should done the packaging right.<br/>Was expecting to eat Puri and aaloo Bhaji. How do I eat Bhaji now. And purani poli was also ruined by water.<br/>

Well, this place was quite on my list for a long time.<br/>Visited this place on Rakshabandhan for dinner. We reached around 8 and had to wait for 30mins.<br/>As I entered I loved the sitting arrangement, it was quite spacious with decent interiors.<br/>Coming to food we had ordered all dishes that were the specialty of the say.<br/>1. Lasaniya tameta with bharelo rotlo 3/5<br/>2. Kandhari kofta with Jowar roti 2/5<br/>3. Nagpuri Rasa Patodi 3/5<br/>4. Biryani 4/5<br/>5. Kanda bhajiya 5/5<br/><br/>I was little less satisfied with main course but would definitely try their snacks menu for my next visit.

If you are looking for authentic Maharashtrian delicacies then Madhavrao is on of the best options in Ahmedabad.<br/>It's has beautiful ambience, staff are quite polite and they help in selecting the best out of their menu.<br/>Food taste is delicious, will definitely visit again to try more of their food options. Everything mentioned in their menu seems to be different and tempting.

Family get-together demand for special food by traditions. But eating the same food every time is boring. We needed a change from the same old North Indian or Gujarati food, so we decided to explore a new place on Saturday. For the last few days, my taste buds were craving something Marathi and there were a lot of recommendations for Madhavrao. We decided to go there for lunch on Saturday to celebrate the festive weekend. The ambience was quite royal and grand with comfortable seating spanning two floors. The staff was quite polite and attentive. When they observed that I was unable to find a place to keep my camera, Picsy along with momā€™s handbag & my sling bag gave us an extra chair without even asking.Ā We were unable to decide, what to order as everything looked super interesting, so we asked the server to help us. and he asked us our chilli quotient which was a bare minimum, based on which he suggested us a couple of dishes. He also explained to us that most of the dishes are gluten-free and also vegan, so it is a plus point for many health-conscious foodies there. (Health conscious foodie is an oxymoron :D) After quickly for a minute, we ordered the following things.Piyush: A kesar flavoured lassi which is smooth & creamy prepared by whisking buttermilk and Shrikhand together. A perfect summer drink it is. I have had it a couple of times in my stay in Mumbai and having it here after a long time made me nostalgic. (5/5)Sol kadi: A beverage made from coconut milk and kokum is yet another comfort drink. It was neither too spicy not too mild. This was a soothing drink to my palette, something I could drink multiple cups of, in one sitting. (5/5)Kokum Sharbat: A drink which used to be my saviour (after nimbu pani) in the Mumbai days phase of my life. One sip and all my senses felt revitalised. The kokum here felt no different than the traditionally made ones! Mixed to a perfect consistency, the sour-sweet mixture was a perfect refresher. (5/5)Mushroom Xacuti &Tawa Roti: This is my new favourite meal.Ā  Being the lone lover of mushroom in my home, I rarely get an opportunity to have it whenever I step out. When I saw this dish on the menu, with the name looking so appetizing, I knew I had to have it. And when it arrived, the aroma filled me with reverbs that I need to have it. It was served along with thetcha and onion slices. I can say this was one of the best mushroom curries I have ever had in my lifetime. If only it was a tiney-miney bit spicier, the taste would have been wholesome. Nevertheless, this was the first time for me with xacuti and I loved it. (4.5/5)Kothimbir Wadi: Although I have had it a couple of times before I never seemed to like it as it was always super oily, given the satisfaction with the dishes I was having in Madhavrao so far, we decided to give it a shot and believe me, I was not disappointed. Flawlessly fried batter of besan and the coriander, with the crunch of peanuts and the most amazing coriander & tamarind chutney, this leisure snack won my heart. Again I felt it needed a slightly more spice to avoid being bland Do correct me if Iā€™m wrong, though. (4.5/5)Saoji Matar Masala with LacchaParatha: My past experience was warning me to be careful. I found it super spicy for my taste buds. Nevertheless, I had a bite of the paratha with the curry and the taste was good. The laccha paratha was wheat based so it wasnā€™t too heavy. (4/5)Misal Pav: The dish which is an identity of the Maharashtrian cuisine. I had introduced this dish to my family the only a couple of years back when I found it's recipe on YouTube and ever since then, it is prepared at my home once a month. The curry and the spice were perfectly balanced. (4/5)We ordered extra pav and rice, to finish the remaining meal. The cost for four of us came to Rs. 1500/- which we felt was a good deal. This place is echoing in my heart now demanding many more visits. But it is far from my home in Gandhinagar. But I have definitely made up my mind that I have to come back here for trying more stuff. Hopefully, the time for a revisit comes soon.

Loved the decor, loved the food,. Amazing staff who explained each dish we ordered and helped us decide.... A bit heavy on wallet but worth trying for a quite and cozy meal... Highly recommended
Nirav Sanghvi
Nice food. Unique Gujarati and Maharashtrian dishes with great quality and test wins everything.<br/><br/>Only point which killed entire experience was at end of dinner they said there is no bowl of water or wet tablet tissues to clean hands. You either need to use regular paper napkin or standup and use washroom to clean your hands. It was surprise for moment that how come such level of restaurant management can't think for this. When we asked waiter and later manager he said to use washroom. With Gujarati food /Thali that is awakard.

Well I had been craving for some Sabudana khichdi for a while now and Madhavrao absolutely has the best one. It us prepared in ghee and tastes delightful. Also I tried the Masala Khichdi which was delicious too. I had a wonderful experience. <br/>Looking forward to more food.

I have been a regular customer at your establishment. You do not provide the option to switch veggies in the combo nor do you allow the dishes in the separately. I was ok to pay extra but your manager did not allow. So I guess this will be my last time till you provide some flexibility in ordering.

What a great place this is for dinning!!<br/>Highly conceptual place with a very unique and peaceful ambiance wherein you find the presence of art and presence of positive energy.<br/>Coming to food,<br/>I ordered thaali which had many different preparations.<br/>Stuffed khandvi was completely new thing for me.<br/>Alu suki bhaji, lilu shak, baingan, moth sabji, tomato sar with veg pulao, puri, kachumbar, are enough for to you to feel the heaven on tongue.<br/>Each thing had perfext texture and flavours.<br/>I wanted to try the solkadi and finally ordered to pair with my meal and also as a part of refreshment in this hot summer.<br/>Solkadi was really refreshing and smart and subtle use of garlic in it enriched the solkadi..<br/>Lachko mohanthal was really decadent.

Excellent service and value for Money. Test unbeatable. I have order number of times through Zomato though didn't get a chance to visit personally at the restaurant, but have heard a lot about the ambience.

First and foremost the ambience is very good, they have given a rustic and authentic vibe to the place. The staff is courteous and the service is prompt. We ordered a variety of Maharashtrian dishes and overall the taste and quality was very good. The only downside was that the dishes were not as spicy as one would expect the Marathi cuisine to be. But all in all a good experience.

Madhavrao is one of the very few fine dine restaurants in Ahmedabad that specialises in serving authentic maharashtrian food. Located in the Prahladnagar main road, the outlet is spread across two floors with ample seating options. The interiors house a traditional marathi theme with a lot of ancient and antiques in display. The lighting though seems a bit low, goes well with the theme.<br/>We tried :<br/><br/>Kothambir wadi :A speciality at this place this one is not to be missed. 5/5<br/><br/>Crispy Patra : A traditional Gujarati dish with marathi touch. This one was worth a try. 4/5<br/><br/>Misal Pav : Very authentic in taste and perfect in quantity. Enjoyable for those who crave for authentic misal in ahmedabad.<br/><br/>Ragda Patis : Yesmt another speciality here. The taste was perfect and the quantity was fairly reasonable. 4/5<br/><br/>Mojanthal with ice cream : A unique combination. The mohanthal was perfect in taste and absolutely hot and fresh. The combination with ice cream made it really good. Was a bit let down by the quantity here.<br/><br/>The service was really prompt and courteous. A couple of request though for water refilling had to be made.<br/><br/>Overall Madhavrao surely turns out to be a great choice when one wants to have some quality food. The pricing though a bit on a higher side, surely justified the quality used.

The ambience is nice, service quick and prompt. The broth was lovely but the main dish was a let down the matki was chewy and rubbery. Was expecting better. The portion is small.

This place is elegant and one of good and hygienic place but my experience is so bad that <br/>Out of 5 people who went there for dinner 3 of us got severe stomach ache and other indigestion problem inspite of such a renowned name <br/>And so Iā€™m really disappointed
The Chef From India
A place par excellence when it comes to ambience. Kept it elegant. Simple. No clutter and most of all, comfortable. The food, for which one visits a restaurant, takes the highest seat. <br/><br/>For anyone who loves maharashtrian cuisine, like me, or even Gujarati or Rajasthani food, this is the place to go if you're looking for fine dine. From kothimbir vadi to sol kadhi and from Takkar Roti to haldi ki subzi, they have it all and they know their food. Yet to be disappointed and I have visited this place on multiple occasions. Absolutely love the food. And the new concept of that fixed lunch, my God! Anyone who's a fan of Indian food, must try that thali once. Absolutely gobsmacking!

Nice and elegant place to have some local Maharashtrian snacks a little pricey . Overall not a bad one when you want to have a halka fulka khaana

Great authentic food, well trained staff and also found it quite a value for money. Buffet is also a great option for people with heavy appetite. It's a must go for people who haven't tried it before. What we loved: Misal Pav, Kothimbir Wadi, Batata Bhaji Shikhand Puri, Kholapuri Dum Biryani, vada Pav, and in sweets mohanthal and puran poli.

Quantity is too less according the rates, I literally called to find out how much they serve per portion..but, the staff is unaware of it. Well, highly disappointed with the quantity served.

First thing that happens to me when I enter a place is noticing the vibes. Madhavrao is cool and calm hangout. We went on weekday afternoon in blazing heat outside. The place was almost to ourselves thanks to the time we chose.<br/><br/>I ordered sabudana khichdi. Nicely made and served with fresh plain yogurt. Tooooo sweet for my taste. Sugar overpowered every taste in that.<br/><br/>Next was batata WADA. Piping hot and generous serving. Right kind of spicy and finger licking imli chutney. A must try here.<br/><br/>The icing on this cake..oops ! wada I mean, was dhungreli chach. Smoked buttermilk? My friend popped his eyes out with the mouthful of flavors they have infused. Another too good to miss.<br/><br/>

So Madhavrao is this classy hidden gem I discovered while I was searching for something different in Ahmedabad. I must begin by saying that the staff here is probably one of the most courteous I have met in a long time. Added to this the wonderful food I had made my going to Madhavrao absolutely worth it. The food is an experience in itself. Very different from your typical Gujarati cuisine. Itā€™s a place worth going to not only for the food but the amazing decor and ambience. At Madhavrao you are transported to one of those typical old school Parsi eateries of Mumbai or Pune. If you want to try something new and classy head to Madhavrao. Cheers....

Amazing taste.<br/>Received this lunch (farali sabudana khichdi and dahi) as a surprise.<br/><br/>Worth spending money to this recipe.<br/><br/>5 star for a chef.

This review can be paraphrased in a statement: I expected more.<br/>To start with,<br/><br/>The ambience: Dimly lit rooms with little to no ventilation of any sorts. And if this was not enough, the non-cushioned wooden furniture straightened backs like nothing else.<br/><br/>The service: As expected. Fast, silent and polite. Swoosh in and out with dishes in a second.<br/><br/>The food: The worst of all parameters. Authenticity was maintained pretty well for all cuisines except Maharashtrian where spice was almost zero. The bland taste robbed my taste buds of any good experience and to top it all off, the best dish of the whole course was raitu, or spiced yoghurt, a complimentary item. Something like this speaks loads for the restaurant.
How I Met My Food
We wanted to visit this place since such a long time and finally visited this place for Sunday lunch 2 weeks ago.<br/><br/>We had heard about their unlimited thali and wanted to try it but as it was Sunday, only ala carte was available. We were 6 friends who visited this place and paid 500 per person.<br/><br/>In terms of authenticity of the dishes, well we cannot comment but yes taste wise and how a particular dish is to be prepared, the dishes were indeed cooked accordingly as our friends who accompanied us shared their knowledge in terms of authenticity of the food.<br/><br/>Now coming to what we tried, in appetizers:<br/><br/>Batata vada- The vadas were very soft. We are not a ā€œpotatoā€ person but this really tasted well. We loved having this soft and seasoned potato vada with the dry masala served with it.<br/><br/>Sev batata puri- Honestly, Rs. 140 for this dish seemed little overprice to us as being an amdavadi, we get really good sev puri on the streets in just Rs. 30. We thought maybe there will be some difference in this dish but it was just what we get on the streets or at local chaat shop. <br/><br/>Ragda patties- We liked the patties as they were soft and ragda with the chutneys and oinions over the top of patties tasted great as well. <br/><br/>Kothimbir Wadi- Made of coriander and besan, this maharashtrian dish tasted average to us. IT was not over the top oily which was great but having it alone did not impress us. We could have it easily with the chutneys served with it.<br/><br/>Couldnā€™t try much of Sugarcane juice and Sol kadhi (drinks) due to bad throat but both the drinks are refreshing.<br/><br/>For the main course we ordered: Rabodi ki sabji takkar, Malavi Matki Jowar Bhakri and Haldi Korma Methi Puri. We havenā€™t tried these dishes earlier so they tasted different. We somehow loved the Haldi Korma dish a lot due to the spiceness in the subji.<br/><br/>Masala Dosa- We love dosas but we didnā€™t find these appealing over here. The dosa batter was too thick and the dosa was not crispy.<br/><br/>Misal pav- We have tried this in Surat, Baroda and Mumbai and have loved this dish a lot. Itā€™s a must have over here if someone is craving to have a good missal pav in Ahmedabad<br/><br/>Due to a bad throat, couldnt try Malpua Rabdi and Palm jaggery ice cream for desserts.<br/><br/>Tried Mohanthal which is an Indian sweet with ghee and dry fruits. It is a must try but for Rs. 160, the quantity is very less.<br/><br/>Overall a good place with lovely interiors. Service is really quick. We feel the dishes are overpriced or they should increase the quantity.

I was very excited to visit this place as its the only restaurant which serves the authentic maharashtrian food. Ambience is like a maharashtrian palace n i loved it but food was ok ok...i liked thalipeeth... sabudana wada was bit spicy was not able to eat. Staff is very polite n friendly.

A place which will give you a feel of high standards <br/>they have a good location but the only drawback is their menu<br/>they have very less dishes in their menu so if you are looking for actual dinner then this place is not for you<br/><br/>their regular detox water impressed me which contained mint leaves & cucumber slices<br/><br/>now let come to food<br/><br/>i had ordered misal pav, dahi vada, masala dosa & their smokey chass<br/><br/>everything was just good in taste , i mean you can have such taste in some old outlets so no need to spend 800bucks for this ordinary taste<br/><br/>ambiance is quite so so<br/>seating arrangements were not so comfortable & staff was very less as per area & even they were looking like a not that much experienced <br/><br/>but overall worth for one visit<br/><br/>overalll,<br/><br/>food-3/5<br/>service-3/5<br/>ambiance-3.5/5<br/>value for money-3/5<br/><br/>thank you

Beautiful ambiance and very attentive staff are 5*<br/>Now about the food.<br/>This place is for people who can experiment different cuisines.<br/>Soups there are two options. Both are very different than the conventional soups. Very tasty soups but I found it cold in temperature.<br/>Misal pav was good .<br/>Kothambali was good.<br/>Goan xitachi bhakri was ordinary.<br/>Puran Poli, Gujaratis make it better<br/>Undhiyu and doodhpak combo. Undhiyu was totally different and it was good. Doodhpak was big let down.<br/>One more item of besan with piori. I don't remember the name but it was very ordinary.<br/>On food it's 3*and for ambiance, service and parking it's 5* so I settle for 4*

Actually rating :- 3.75/5<br/><br/>I always want to visit this place because this place always appeared rich in look from outside. Located in prime location in Prahladnagar, this place js able to attract many customers. <br/><br/>We went there on a weekday for lunch and many tables were occupied. They have very limited food options. <br/><br/>We ordered : <br/>1. Pav Bhaji : 5/5. Extremely tasty and spicy the way it should be. <br/>2. Vada pav : 3.5/5. It was bombay vada pav. <br/>3. Shrikhand puri bhaji : 3/5. I personally did not like its taste. Spice is subji was missing and shrikhand was also okayish. <br/>4. Kokum Sharbat : 2.5/5. People praise a lot about its sharbat but I didnā€™t like it. It tasted weird. <br/><br/>I would highly recommend this place for family dinners and gatherings.

Nice place with a pleasant ambience!<br/>Loved the biryani!<br/>Also tried misal pav and chat!<br/>Perfect place for a Sunday outing with your family!<br/>It is a cosy place for a perfect meal

Good ambience. Staff was helpful and service was really quick. You order it and itā€™s on your table in less then 10 minutes every time. Loved it the menu is single Page and you should ask them about there famous ones. Little heavy on pocket (500 per person) but then for such ambience you wonā€™t mind spending. <br/><br/>Enjoy and Happy Eating.
Aaditya
Very poor service <br/>Late and lasy <br/>Prices are to much higher more than a 5 star dining<br/>Actually itā€™s Maharashtra based franchise but here for buissness they are selling Maharashtra as well south India food as well Gujarati everything and make us fool by authentic <br/>Must focus own cuisine and work hard on same <br/>But if u r going fir everything then will get nothing <br/>Very disappointed <br/>Sorry but stop to cheat customers <br/>Donā€™t advise any one to go there
Karan K
Absolutely Recommend! Real Taste with utmost precision of spices. Liked Kothimbir Wadi, Zunka Bhakri & Kolhapuri Briyani in our order.<br/>Will visit again!

non authentic food preparation & food Test is not good. Service & atmosphere is good. Some verities is good but test is not to test. Sugar cane juice is good.

I loved the Shrikhand and Pav Bhaji at this place but choices are rather less but items are high on taste. the service is also prompt. Please add more choices.

Brilliant menu, creative and satisfying. Bit too spicy hot, though. Worth several visits to try everything on the menu. Very helpful staff ready with suggestions.
Praz L
Not even close to maharastrian food. The zunka bhari was pathetic. Kolhapuri dum biryani was okay. Had high expectations from here but all flushed down the gutter. Highly overpriced.

Best place to visit with family. N mohanthal with ice cream a must try food item for very sweet lover. An ice cream with a hot served mohanthal Amazing it was...
Masala Maarke
We visited this place for the first time it it turned out to be an amazing experience! We ordered Misal Pav, Usal Vada and Kothimbir Wadi all of which were delicious. The service and ambiance both are excellent. We shall definitely visit it again.
Gunjan Kulkarni
Totally over-hyped place with good staff and ambience but nothing even average about food.<br/>Nothing Marathi about the cuisine as the name suggests to be.<br/>Kothimbir vade was okay but the Baingan Puri and Sarso Da A are neither Maharashtrian nor Punjabi!
Abu Panja
Quality and taste as expected but ridiculously overpriced. Ambience and staff is also good except for the pricing concern. We get 2 wadas for 150/-

Madhavrao, a Long overdue visit to Madhavrao. Liked the concept and nostalgic ambiance. The decor is really good with retro elements- As much as you appreciate, so little. Now coming to the food, it was overpriced, Like me, there are many others who would not like to spend 12 Rs for Vadapav or 220 Rs for Masala Doodh and Jalebi with less quantity. We were so excited before going there and after having the food we friends end up fighting about who was the one suggested this place. I still wonder how they can give such a small portion of food which is not enough for one person. We had Sol Kadhi ,Ā Mugachi Amti Bhat, Kothimbir Wadi , Jalebi with Masala Doodh, Vadapav. It too overpriced and is sure to burn a hole in the pockets. No doubt food was looking so tempting but taste, quality and quantity were miserable. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I have been to this place about 3 to 4 times. The food here has an authentic taste of marathi cuisine. If you want to taste some real marathi unique cuisine. You must visit the place. Ask the chef for special marathi delicacy for the day.<br/><br/>Food tastes amazing and has an authentic taste. Although marathi food is not very extraordinary in general. But every cuisine has its own charm. Must visit place.
Shreyansh Kejriwal
This place builds a lot of expectations and lands u with a very average performance.<br/><br/>Common opinion of the 4 friends walking out "overpriced and overhyped"<br/><br/>Can be aure about it as we had a Marathi manus with us on the table and all of us have lived in Mumbai/pune as students and young graduates (means have experimented at many places big n small there as well)<br/><br/>They have contaminated their kitchen with local craziness for sweet in food. Expecting spicy marathi food, ordered most of the dishes accordingly but none were spicy enough...<br/>Except for the sabudana vada. Hahahaaa.... They are not supposed to be spicy. Saved.<br/><br/>For the premium decor and super premium pricing, neither the service of the class nor the amenities.<br/><br/>We asked for onion n lemon which arrived so late after 3 reminders that meanwhile we finished the dish aise hi. Secondly, they neither give u a cloth napkin nor sufficient paper napkins. Additionally, no finger bowl as well. Whatst the premium for ?<br/><br/>Compromise on taste.<br/>Compromise on service.<br/>Pricy.<br/>Small portions.<br/>Overhyped.

Ambience of this place is what impresses u first.....simple, rustic, classy ambience.........we went for a nxlunch (snacks+lunch) or simply a late lunch on Sunday afternoon.... Not crowded at all.. probably because it's a bit late afternoon....so it was quite hassle free experience...<br/>Service was fast and good.....<br/>Coming to food we ordered puri bhaji and shrikhand, kothambir wadi and sabudana khichdi.....sabudana kichdi was bit let down...but kathambir wadi was super osm....it made up our day....<br/>All in all a good experience.... And last but not least...I am in love with these antique chairs..super comfy and a bit nostalgic...

Madhavrao. This name is really look like a king name I don't know tha name is related to any king or not but yes the price of certain items are as costly as the king can afford. Chokha nu khichu which I ordered today as I have guest from out of town and he wants to eat only khichu and in afternoon many outlets are not providing khichu so I ordered from Madhavrao. Simple Chokha khichu with 1 tea spoon of oil and methi masala of one spoon cost me 170 in Zomato with 10 rs delivery charge so I paid 160 RS for a small 150 gram khichu. In Ahmedabad all gardens if you go early in morning the same plate you get it maximum 30 rs with all stuffing so this price is 5x which is loot. Wharever restaurant ambience, whatever taste this is nothing against the cost which Madhavrao charged. Totally unexpected

"Top notch Interior and the best Ambience"Ā <br/><br/>Decor is really good with retro elements- As much as you appreciate, so little.Ā <br/>Food was ok, nothing special about food. You can not complain about the presentation or excipients or the staff but but (no words)....<br/><br/>Rodga Rassa - (Marathi Dal Bati) in their list of must try, personally I do love Dal bati and good in taste. Spicy treat. Mashed Brinjal was good and unique.<br/><br/>Kothimbir Wadi - The main attraction of lunch. Must try, will enjoy it.<br/><br/>Dum Misal - Dum misal was flat in taste, nothing special in taste. like Deposit in stomach.Ā <br/><br/>Vada Pav - Very normal.... (avoid)<br/><br/>Zunka Bhakri - Thecha was on attraction and Roti from Rice was good.<br/><br/>Dhungaredi Chhaas

I had high expectations as per their advertisement and marketing but it was pathetic in terms of variety, quantity and taste. My wrong decision and choice led me here. If you really want to shell out money then visit a better place than this.

We ordered following items:<br/>1. Pav Bhaji - Average taste<br/>2. Sev Puri - same as above<br/>3. Chhole Tikki - Not freshly cooked; taste even worse<br/><br/>Staff and service are good. Ambience can catch your attention.

It was a bright Sunday afternoon during which me and family decided to visit this nice, quirky and authentic restaurant. It gives us a feeling like a true MAHARASHTRIAN in ahmedabad. The place is beautifully decorated with antique like interiors . <br/>As we talk about food... we ordered misal pav, kothimbar vadi, maharashtrian thali, mohanthal etc. Misal pav was at its best. Kothimbar vadi was a purely new thing for us nd it make our taste buds active. Just donā€™t forget to order mohanthal - itā€™s a nice gujju sweet dish but they make it so delicious that we craves for it. Looking forward to next visit to this restaurant.

After two visits to madhavrao within a month I am still yearning for a third visit. The first time we had dum misal, kolhapuri dum biryani, potato puri shrikhand combo and kokum sarbat. The quantity of each dish is generous so it is advisible to start with one dish and order gradually unless you are starving. Quality is spot on and dishes are yummy. Second time we had spicy kilth soup, pani puri and ragda patties. The interior is well done and service is great. With food hitting the right ticks what else would you need?

It is not always about the food but also about the experience and Madhavrao offers both, food and experience. Serving the regional dishes from the various parts of India, the quality of ingredients used is top notch and each dish represents the attention paid towards perfecting the flavours. The portions served here are small but lets you try a variety of other dishes. Things I have tried so far:-<br/><br/>Kothambir Vadi: This Maharasthrian snack is quite addictive and brought back a lot of memories when I tried after years. The preparation is simple and should be given a try. Though I prefer a bit more coriander leaves and more crispy.<br/><br/>Goan Xitachi Bhakri: This snack was an absolute delight. I have never tried anything Goan so was quie excited to tried this and was not disappointed. Not sure what the bhakris were made of, may be rice flour and green chillies, later fired until crispy and served with pickled green chillies.<br/><br/>Gatta nu Shak with Satpadi Roti: It was the first time I had a gatta curry in Ahmedabad which was close to authentic, this shak was served with a sevenfolded roti and was a good accompaniment, though I wish it was a little softer.<br/><br/>Piyush: As soon as I took the first sip of this beverage, I became a fan. Nutmeg is my all time favourite comfort spice, pairing it with kesar made it a heavenly combination.<br/><br/>The staff here is polite and helpful. The ambience is reflection of how the people behind Madhavrao has paid attention to every single detail and made us go back to our roots.<br/><br/>Canā€™t wait to visit again, cheers!<br/><br/>

Quality and taste are great but for the money, quantity needs to be surely revisited by the group! I went twice and food was amazing! <br/>Bajra khichidi is must try šŸ¤©

Frankly I wasnā€™t satisfied with the taste nor the authenticity of the food category. Ordered misal pav which was not even closer to an ordinary one. The sweet dish daal halwa which was served as complimentary at the end when the chef found we werenā€™t happy with the taste was not authentic one and we couldnā€™t fulfill our expectations after we tried the food here. Would recommend the chef to work intrinsically on the authentic preparation as well as taste which meets expectations of a foodie like me! Hospitality was fair though. Madhav Rao as the name signifies originality and so the food served here should also signify the same. Hope you guys will better the food preparations!

Must visit this place if you are looking for something different in Thai šŸ˜‹Amazing foodšŸ’™ great combination of maharstrian and Gujarati thali šŸ˜‹ they used coconut in most of their dishes. One of their sabji PRIDE OF GUJARAT is outstanding.
