Review South Indian - Ahmedabad

BHAKTI JOSHI
Perfect place for south Indian food lovers. Tasty and delicious dishes with good service and silent ambiance. You can have your early morning breakfast here. And..... don't forget to have filter coffee here!!! Average four-wheeler parking space, and you can say enough parking space for two wheelers. You should visit this place if you are a foodie and love South Indian food 👍🏻 I have visited this place many a time even when it is under renovation as well as when it's completed and both the time, I have clicked some photos which can give u an idea of before and after how it looks like. Beautiful and ambiance was even better than before. Must visit this place.

The South Indian Restaurant ambiance may be on the smaller side, its taste is undeniably iconic and original. If you're in search of genuine South Indian cuisine that has stood the test of time, this restaurant is a must-visit. It's a culinary journey that pays homage to the rich culinary heritage of the region.

Had their Rava Dosa - Onion , I'd say this is as close and perfect as it could get to one's down south , at least among the ones I have visited during my stay here . Do visit 👍

Tasty and reasonably priced south indian food. I liked the medu vada very much. Can do a bit better on service and the furniture. The sambhar is very authentic.

Note: Don't mind for half eaten pics. This is an incredible restaurant in Ahmedabad, the taste is good, the ambiance is good, service can be improved..but it's okay..anyway we go for filling out stomach with tasty food We have ordered varieties.idly, Vada, dosa, Pongal, uthappam...out of all I felt uthappam and masala dosa are good .chutney is very good .but sambar is okay. Coming to finisher, the Filter cofee .we have liked it very much.you can ask them for strongness in coffe since they make in general the coffe we got is very light. Coming to cost..little expensive, Idly 2 pc is 60 Dosa is 80 Uthappa. Is 80... Coffee is 50.. as we are at too much hungry, had like anything and paid like anything 😄.

This is the best South Indian restaurant opposite to Cama Hotel in Khanpur area. Very well known for authentic South Indian food in Khanpur. I used to study Graduation in Bhavan's college and this was a good place to sit with our college friends and sip filtered coffee here. Even today after 25 years also the same taste is maintained.
CHIRAG KUBAVAT
Purely South Indian Family Restaurant. One of the oldest place in Ahmedabad. Owner & service staff kind and responsive. If you follow simple but significant place (unlike Sankalp), you must visit this place. Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner

The service at the restaurant was impeccable. The staff members were knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. They were more than willing to provide recommendations and cater to any dietary preferences or restrictions. The waiters' enthusiasm and passion for the cuisine added an extra layer of enjoyment to the overall experience.

I am a regular patron. Recently some rowdy looking person asked my my key and parked my scooter across the road, while there was already another scooter parked. Im an old man abd had a hard time getting my vehicle. Lame excuse of municipal objection. Owner manager said nothing.

You can rely on a restro where you find people from the place where the cuisine belongs. I found so many South indian families when we visited this place.

Certainly a good place with food at very good prices.

MUST HAVE: Idiyappam

Idli, Vada and Masala Idli were good as well.

Masala Idli was differently prepared from regular style, which had little gravy feel to it with chunks of capsicum and onions.

They lack bit of consistency though otherwise this place has potential of perfect 5/5 as they serve some great food at great price.

Surely will visit them again to try more from menu.

Ambience: 3/5
Food: 3.75/5
Service: 3.75/5
VFM: 4/5
Hygiene: 3/5
One of the very old restaurant opp. Kama hot that serves authentic south Indian food. The ambience gives the legendary vibes so does their style of serving.

We visited this place in the morning at around 8.30 and tried their idli, vada, masala dosa and rava onion masala dosa. Loved everything; idli was very danedar and fluffy, vada was crisp outside soft inside, the dosas were perfectly crisped as per our request. But their amazing alu pyaj masal and the sambhar blew our ming. One of the best sambhar we have had in Ahmedabad.

Have heard alot about their iddiappam but they start serving it after 10 am so definitely going to this place for iddiaplam and south Indian thali.

I alongwith my family visited this place. It's a very small restaurant and so we had to wait for approx half hour. But as the food arrived it was worth the wait. We ordered spring dosa, cheese dosa, masala dosa, plain dosa, idli, meduvada, onion uthapam and masala uthapam. All tasted delicious. The sambhar and the chatni were just the way it's in South. Overall very good food bt average ambience. Treat for South Indian lovers.Hetan Thakkar

This restaurant has been in the heart of ahmedabad for a long time. It sits right in front of the ahmedabad fort wall. They are one of the few restaurants, which serve south Indian thalis.

AMBIANCE: The fort walls outside gives us historic feel. The hotel’s entrance has aesthetic and traditional view. The place is small and has few tables. The interior gives us the clues of the time it has stood and authenticity. There are wood carvings here and there. There are paintings on walls and coloured glass on one side. I found the ambiance as basic and rich at the same time. (Ambiance: 4/5)

FOOD: We ordered south Indian thalis. It has one pulses subji, one authentic south Indian subji (which you cannot find anywhere in ahmedabad), sambhar, rasam, flavoured ric, curd, rice, sheero and puri, papad, pickle.

The pulses sabji is on rotational basis, and they are amazing. Every time i have to order them extra for more. The south Indian subji may be beetroot subji or French beans subji or any other. They have completely different taste, which i never get to taste anywhere else. Rasam is also perfectly balanced- sour and spicy in after taste. Sometimes they have curd rice or lemon rice, both are amazing. These flavoured rice dishes are in addition to the regular rice. You also get roti or puri in option. The quality and quantity of the food is above par.

I have also had the regular south Indian menu before. Onion uthapas and mysore malsa dosa are also worth trying here. (Food: 4/5)

SERVICE: The service is basic, nothing extraordinary. You won’t have any problem, as the owner is sitting right in front of you. The service is quick. (Service: 4/5)

We have a tradition; I have visited this place every diwali morning for past 10 years. This is one of the few places, which provide authentic, healthy south Indian food at very reasonable rates. I recommend visiting this place at least once, if you want to try a south Indian dish.

The South Indian Restaurant - 😎 😎 😎

Located at old part of city near CAMA HOTEL, the restaurant serves south Indian main course, snacks, deserts & beverages.

As located in old part, parking space is not available so avoid four wheels. Small restaurant serves good quality food. Don’t expect so many Chutneys like Sankalp & other South Indian restaurant chains. But authentic taste you can get from the food. ✌️ ✌️ ✌️

Dish to try is Dosa, Dahi Vada, Fried Idli (For crisp taste lovers), South Indian Thali.

Ambiance is ok & space is compact. Service during peak time is slow. Visit with college friends or limited budget is advisable. Not recommended for couple visit as ambiance not advisable.

Ambiance – 2.5 out of 5

Food Taste – 3.5 out of 5

Service - 2.5 out of 5 (Area to improve. Experienced during peak hour)

Value for money – 4 out of 5

quantity – 3.5 out of 5

Budget for two – 350

I do not know what people expect when they enter this place . You have to be u assuming when you decide to go here.
I have been going here ever since I can remember and it's one of those places where time has stood still.
As soon as you enter this place you would be teleported back to 1990s style diners . It's got this old rusty and nostalgic feel and at the same time nothing has changed. Almost the same interiors small and cosy place , amazing for a hearty breakfast if you are a south Indian lover.
Amazing food and good service. When you consider this place against the price , it's an absolute steal.
Must try.

Been on my list for almost two years. Finally, I made time to go try it out, and must I say, it was awesome. This has to be one of the best south indian joints i've been to, in a very long time. The Andhra Masala is especially awesome - must try if you're going there for the first time.
Food - amazing food, bordering on extraordinary. Since I've been to a lot of places in southern part of the subcontinent, I can safely say that the food tastes very much like what I ate down there. I would even go ahead and say that the taste is as much authentic as possible in this city. Just as the menu impresses you, the cheese and the paneer and the schezwan things blow the bubble.
Ambiance - When you first see the restaurant, it gives you a certain rusty feel. The restaurant is in an old fashioned house, and the back drop is the wall of the walled city. I have to say, it does make you feel that you are a part of something very very old. The interior is pretty good as well, maintains the rusty feel. The chairs aren't that comfortable though. The colour tinted windows is that singular feature which catches my eye every time I pass by.
Service - the servers are pretty friendly, bordering on creepy - but mind you, good creepy. They make you feel like you've been eating here everyday for a long time. Very courteous, and well mannered.
Will I be back? Of course I will.

Ambience: The interiors are a mix of south-chineese-gujarati heritage. The restaurant is small but generally empty on weekdays and most weekends. They need to work on crowd management though. (3.5/5)
Food: Delicious South Indian food, go for coconut uttapa, fixed dinner, masala dosa with cheese. Top it with filter coffee or cold coffee. It's authentic south Indian food at a great price. And Yes, their sambhar isn't sugary-sweet ;) (5/5)
Service: The staff is courteous and quick in bringing your orders. Though they need to do something when handling excess crowd on special holidays. (4/5)
Value for Money: Absolutely! Go for it! (5/5)

South indian is one of the finest place to have snacks or light dinner or lunch, if u like south indian food.
It is a average restaurant so you cant expect a high class ambience but the food is simply remarkable.
All types of dosa from masala to phudina to mysore all are worth the money u pay.
Idli and uttampama are also nice.
Abdurraziq Farid Shaikh
