Nice place for breakfast . Perfect place for South Indian lovers. Food is good, nice atmosphere. Rate is very cheap. They have break at 3 p.m. the owner is very nice n waiters are very fast to give service. Car parking issue to try to visit by bike or scooty. They take party orders also. Must visit.

Chennai Express definitely deserves 5 Stars whether it is Shahrukh Khan's movie or this South Indian food restaurant. I moved to Ahmedabad as my co. Asked to work from office finishing Work from home and this is the 1st place after a week time which I really liked and enjoyed the taste they offered. They offer various kind of Dosas, and I can definitely vouch for them regarding Quality & Quantity. I had Idlis too and they are so soft and yummy, you instantly fall in love with them. Chuttney and Sambhar tastes superb and you can literally eat as much you want but still have craving left. This place is run by South Indians with love and respect. You will be treated with atmost respect and love. Place is very neat and tidy. Rates are very reasonable and quantity offered is more than sufficient with quality. I will definitely recommend this place to everyone living in Ahmedabad to try out what they are offering. I am attaching few pics and videos of inside and outside of restaurant.

Great experience visiting Chennai express restaurant. True South Indian breakfast with reasonable prices . It's more good to eat at restaurant that order online. Over all service, hygiene , and tast of the food is fantastic

Taste : upto the mark. Price : competitive. Quantity : better than others. An authentic south indian restaurant. You will feel like you're somewhere at southern part of India. The taste has been same since starting. They expanded their restaurant. Suggested for all south indian food lovers in Ahmedabad.
Sanjeev Gautam
Authentic south flavour. Decent prices. Cleanliness could be improved. Liquid soap should be provided as south india. food is very oily.

Best south indian food in the town

You might have seen a guy on a red coloured two wheeler selling Idli and mendu vada with white chutney… it’s the main place in Prahladnagar Authentic South Indian and you’ll love it And it’s still pretty cheap as compared to how good stuff they provide
Milan Darji
Authenticate south India food with very affordable price and quick service. Mendu vada and Idly is something very good specialty. both chatni is also yummy.

This is probably the best place to have authentic South Indian food - Idli, vada, dosa, meals - at pocket friendly prices in Ahmedabad. This place has been a saviour for me due to the lack of affordable South Indian food outlets here. The taste is authentic and the Sambar can get better, it isn't sweet like many other places in Ahmedabad. Will recommend having Uttapam, Masala Dosa, Idli, Vada.

My one of the favourite plave for South Indian delight as They serves one of the best dosa in the city and the price of their dosas are half the price of big chain of South Indian restaurant. I personally love their Red tomato chutney.

Food is good.also service. More Cleanliness is required. If owner can deal with this issue then nothing like it to get 5 star at all. Categories.

The best South India place. I absolutely love the food here. My go to place when i can't find anything else. The owner is very polite and delightful to talk to. It has a homely feeling. And the food has the authentic flavours and the quality of food is great.

I absolutely recommend their Mysore masala dosa and the vada sambhar.

Perfect combination of affordable and delicious food. 👍

*This is a delivery review*
Food was amazing and fast prepared. I asked for extra coconut chutney and they provided. Thanks for that .
I think you need to improve your sambhar's quality. It was good but it's not so perfect. I feel sambhar is little bit extra spicy what we have in generally.
#Feel free to share #
What's your(restaurant authority) opinion to sambhar

It's an authentic south Indian restaurant located beside pharmacy shop at the cross roads. But once u find this shop it is open door to south Indian restaurant. Resonable rate, student affordable. The owner is kind enough to answer all your queries. This shop opens at 7am selling tasty idli wada for breakfast and opens again at 7pm for dinner, for this the menu is wide.

It will be good, if you add idly, medhuvada, sambar in online order during morning time or at-least in Saturday and sunday. ..........thank you
Tejashree Shah
It's a non descript place serving very good dosa. I visited in the evening so couldn't taste the idli and the vada. The dosas are big, thin and crispy with just the right amount of butter. The chutneys very tasty. The sambhar not authentic. The owner confessed that he had to change the taste to satisfy the demands of the customers.

Easily the best South Indian outlet I have been to in Ahmedabad. Comparing to other South Indian restaurants like Radhika etc, this outlet has the best South Indian food at reasonable prices. The staff is very courteous too! I would recommend Ravva dosa and Utappam (seriously, utappam just melts in your mouth). If you are craving for some good authentic South Indian food, visit this place!

***Hidden Gem Alert***

On the way from Shyamal Crossing to Sachin tower, there is this small gem serves authentic South Indian Food. Starts at morning 7 am and they serve Mendu Vada and Idli with Sambhar and Chutney for the breakfast. During lunch and dinner hours, they serve varieties of dosas and uttapam.

We tried theid Idli Vada Bowl for breakfast. 4 small size idli or vada or mix of both in a bowl with sambhar and coconut chutney. The bowl costs only Rs. 25. The peeping hot sambhar and freshly made coconut chutney was their masterstroke.

We got our sambhar refilled thrice in just one bowl of idli vada mix and the guy there served us with a smile.

the place may not like by some people but the food is authentic South Indian cuisine and the sambgar and tomato chatni is delicious and in last very very economical prices

Don't waste your time , pehle to order confirm karenge aur baadme order cancel karenge bolenge ki ye items available nahi ha hai nahi to menu me kyu rakhte hai,

I tried Maysore Masala there and it was nice. Specially the size of the dosa at this much of price is way better than other eateries. Sambhar and chutney was verry tasty. Worth trying casually.

Don’t go with the ambience because taste of south indian food is really nice here. It’s a very normal place with no ac and all but still i prefer giving 4 star because food quality and taste holds the most importance.
I ordered mix uttapam (best I had in town), set dosa and onion masala dosa(very huge).
Overall great food with absolute reasonable in fact cheap pricing.
Aman Saraogi
Very good food. Always served hot and is affordable. Should try it. Idlis, vadas and dosas all are excellent in taste. No cheating done. Very delightful!

Veryyy authentic flavor.
I had idli chutney n loved it.👍
Place is very small bt Neat n clean.

I haven't tried anything else, bt 2-3 times.. whenever i hv been thr its always crowded.
This place serves excellent south Indian varieties. It is famous for its idly chutney in the morning and dosa in the evening.

They serve only idly and medu wada from morning till 7 pm. Dosa, uttapam are absolve from 7 pm.

While the place is small and seating is not very comfortable even for a small food outlet, taste and quality of their dishes is praise worthy.

I would not suggest to have medu wada as they usually serve it cold, even when they have got ones just come in. Their specialities are idly, cheese paper dosa, mysore masala dosa and onion uttapam.

Excellent place for idly sambhar chutney breakfast or light dinner. Surely a value for money place.

Space is little cosy, What? is it about space? not right. it's about south Indian food. I go At Chennai Express regularly for breakfast (idli and menduvada only in breakfast). this is the one the best place for south Indian breakfast and price is cheap.

In morning they serve only "Idli" and "Mendu vada" and night they serve "Dosa" and "Uttapam" food is very tasty and healthy,
Anupriya Singh
A friend took me there for breakfast. The outlet is located at Aanandnagar road, is very small and has mimnimal seating and decor. They serve only idlis and vadhas for breakfast with sambhar and chutney. Dosas and uttapams are served in the evening.
We ordered a mixed plate of idli and vadha and i really loved the taste. The chutney was a bit runny but once it is poured over the vadha and idli, it really does not matter . One plate of 4 pieces of your choice is priced at a mere Rs. 25. All itmes are already prepared and stored in containers. Despite that, we got piping hot food. The vadhas were crispy and tasty. The idlis were nice and fluffy. Te best part is that you can get unlimited chutney and sambhar for your meal.
Also the gentleman who runs the shop was very efficient and highly hospitable. Glad to have a found a place for good south indian meals, that too in such a low price. Will be visiting soon for the dosas.

Writing this review after visiting multiple times. You have high expectations when place is run by south indian person don't worry place wont disappoint you but you have to be selective in items. In morning they serves good idli vada but not piping hot they prepare it and keep it ready so go early if you want hot. My pick is evening time when he serves good dosa especially rava dosa sambhar needs big time improvement and chutney is good.
Dr. Shrenuj Shah
This is not the place where in one can expect great ambience and service. It is a small place, but the menu hase a good number of south Indian dishes. I ordered their mix uttapam on my previous visit for take away. It was really good in taste. The prices are reasonable. Worth visiting at times.

I used to be huge fan of their idli chutney in the beginning when they used to sell on roadside. But today after so many years the quality has gone down. Sambhar n chutney is good both in quality and quantity but IDLIS are so sour.. so so sour that cannot eat alone.. they need to work out.. all the points for Sambhar n chutney..
Mohit Adhiya
Idli and medu vada are just awesome...Pure south Indian filling..Had a morning breakfast. Once you visit I think you will visit again and again..best south Indian dishes I had in Ahmedabad..
Mahima Iyer
Small walk in outlet, hot seller on weekends wherein people flock in for takeaways. The place was remodeled currently and they added new seats for dine ins. Their Idli Sambhar has the authentic taste of south as the owner wants the customers to devour the best. Medu vadas are tiny and have a urad dal and onion filling. The dosas are heavenly as the dosa master is an expert at crispy dosas and everything is very reasonable and it is located on the main road so one cannot miss it surely! Make sure you check out their timings as they close up very early as soon as the stocks get over. Definately a good weekend brunch option for mainstream south indian cuisine.

Nice place, been there for breakfast. Menduwada was so soft it was easily breakable with plastic spoon. idali was also nice and soft . Place is also clean.

i often visit this place...they have best in sounth indian...original south indian taste which cannt find everywhere...visit many places hence i love dosa bt didnt get better quality than this one...if u dont like the sitting arrangement than can parcel bt u have to taste once...highly recommend ...

Good Place. I admit its a bit uncomfortable seating but I mostly parcel my food as its less like a restaurant and more like a shop :P.

Tasty food. I've tried Idli, meduvada, masala dosa and fudina masala dosa all are very tasty.

Rates are of course undoubtedly very economical.

P.S. : I agree with your point there Vineet it would be great to have steaming hot crispy meduvada as an afternoon snack but it opens around 6:30 pm. in evening yet no idli and vada. :D

UPDATE : recently I've found that quantity and quality sambhar and chutney are depreciating slightly , it maybe because of getting popular in the nearby areas. Do not try uttapams here because they are not made well.

To start with, Muthu's is not a fine dining. It is a paradise for authentic South Indian food lovers. Idlis/ Vadas are amongst the best in town. Dosas and Uttapams are not far behind. Though a simple roadside cafe, food is delicious (tad spicy). Only glitch for me is no idli/ vada is the evening menu. Overall, go regularly kinda place. Keep it rocking with the taste and flavours of authentic south india.

Very disappointing and overhyped place. So,I do have great respect for the owner as he graduated from a handcart to a shop. Treat us same way.
You can easily miss this small place tucked between a pan shop and a paratha joint. Someone stands with already prepared idli n vadas. With electrifying speed,he doles out idli and chutney and sambhar in a disposable plate. Oops..didn't I tell you, these are poured over each other. A cold plate of all these is quickly given to you.
Out of the one page menu, only idli vadas were there.
Well,it sure is a pocket pamper @20 rupees. I would rather pay 40 and get them on a bigger plate separately.

Vatsal Tanna
Awesome and authentic south indian preparations..the morning breakfast is the best part..
giving a point 5 less just because of the bad ambience!
Das
Simply superb.. Loved the authentic south indian taste... Being a keralite, loved its taste.. BF idlis is too good.. And Vadas add up ur taste..
Rahul
Amazing taste, though not consistent in spicy. Good for take away, don't feel eating there. Real authentic south Indian food especially the sambar.
Poo
If you want to try real south indian then its quite good..taste is nice..its small place providing south indian.. u can not feel reastaurant type..!
Safvan Kothawala
If you want to eat tasty authentic dosas at economic price then this place is the right place for you....

The menu only has dosas and uttapam served with 2 types of tasty chatni and sambar...The cost of each dosa is around 50-60 rupees...

There is a sign board which says the water served is RO water and the food is cooked in refined sunflower oil...!!!

So it was Diwali morning when I visited this place and it made my day! Being a south indian, we usually get up around 5 am on a diwali morning and celebrate Diwali and like every year, me, my sister and dad go out to eat something. My love for vadas, again because I am a tamilian, is unexplainable and I found myself craving for some. We went around the entire coty but unfortunately couldnt find a single place to eat THAT EARLY and that too on a diwali morning. Called up a friend and she suggested this place near prahaladnagar. We were in the old city and after a Loooong drive reached this place. It was a small place with cery limited seating. But at that time of the day, it was fortunately empty and we were the first customers of the day.
I saw idlis and vadas and ordered for a plate of vada. Usually in places they serve two big vadas in a plate but here they serve 4 mini vadas. The vadas are so damn delicious. They are one of the best vadas in town! Idlis ordered by my sister was also really good but I prefer the vadas any day. The size of the Vada really matters since they were small vadas, It felt like some small chocolates for me and within no time I had gulped down three plates.. Almost 10 vadas. And the strangest part was that my hunger was still not quenched. :D I had to stop though. But I decided that very day that I am going to be visiting this place every week. Love this place.. The people working here also are amazing and alwyas smiling. If you are looking for the best Vadas in town, do visit this place. \m/

I have seen this man growing by leaps & bounds in the last couple of years.
He use to sell just idli-vada on the road side opposite dhananjay tower on anandnagar road. And still a lot of people use to have their mrng breakfast der or take away d parcel.
Den he opened up this small restaurant just nearby and is doing really gud. Total south indian stuff. They serve decent dosas and idli-vada.
You will find this place flooded wit people on a weekends. I'm sure he will open up a huge restaurant soon. :)
Eshan
This place is purely just for south Indian food. Very famous in the vicinity. Muthu has grown from selling idli-vada on a road side stall to owing his own restaurant. Food is simple and good. Very cost effective. Ambience is not that grate but you will like the dosa. You will find good crowd there on the weekend mornings. :)
