I've roots to Southern India and being there actually reminds me of the same. Amazing !
Loved this place a perfect place for authentic south indian foods.Must visit.
The south Indian food of the tamarind tree gives you perfect satisfaction. Not too spicy, just perfect. Panchvarna uttapam, dosas, idlis.. everything tastes great. It's also a good dining place. It's particular menu is south indian and Chinese.
I love South Indian dishes from this place. If u wanna have good South Indian cuisine in town, this is one of the best places to be. Flavors of ghee just melt in mouth
The food was delicious and fresh ..I am in love with this restaurant, its quality and taste ❤️ highly recommended.. must visit and order anything of your taste
It's known for its South Indian Dishes especially the varieties of Dosa available there. The ambiance of the staff there is good and I loved the idea of giving Jal Jeera the moment you sit in your table as a starter.
#SouthCuisine 🤤🤤
The Ambiance, the quality, the service, the variety is just very good. Keep it up!
They can improve on the authenticity of South India.
Good place for friends, family, colleagues.
Eat 'Thali'.
One of my favourite place at civil lines, slow instrumental music, beautiful place, staff member are so polite, and the most important is that food is so testy.

Nice place with calm and soothing dim lights.
Their interior is quite good. Based on sound indian theme they serve quite good quality of south indian cuisine.
Their chilly babycorns are must have..
We ordered chilli baby corn veg manchurian schezwan noodles nd fried rice..
Every thing was nice but i got dissatisfaction from the schezwan noodles.
Overall a good place to hangout.
They also serve complimentary welcome drinks.
This is a nice cozy place for authentic south indian food, the best south indian I have had in Allahabad. The place is quite spacious with sitting arrangements on the floors with cushions , tables nicely arranged for groups , families or even a couple. The staff is welcoming and will greet you with a smile.
You may have to wait to get a seat sometimes. And I must admit the service is quite slow compared to other south indian places which is way faster.
You are welcomed with a refreshing jaljeera drink.
Do try the mini south indian thali or the mini tiffin they serve puri sabji and some other chutney which are mostly cooked in coconut oil I think. It's gives perfect south indian taste.
Try the rasam with appalam which is also a part of the thali. I wanted to try some thing other than masala dosa and the Mysore Butter was a great change it was different than the regular Dosas I have had.
They have variety of Idlis and also uttapam , I wish to try them at my next visit.
A recommended south indian place.
Really good ambiance and seating arrangement is very comfy. Gives you amazing south indian feels. Food is delicious too. Very preferable for family outings.
Tamarind tree is the best place for south indian cuisines at Allahabad.............................simply love the complimentary Rasam (welcome drink).......................its too yum :)
Beautiful interior and exterior design, this restaurant seems to have all the staff from down south.
Service is good and food is all from southern India😉
I had ordered south Indian thali having differnt tasty items and i will prefer this for south indian foods.
I have ordered masala dosa...As expected It was delicious....but only one question why I haven't got green chutney?? as u ppl always serve three chutneys...
Located in Civil Lines, they have really good South Indian food. They also serve Chinese which is not bad, and not so special. Their coconut chutney and ginger chutney feels like authentic South Indian chutney.
This restaurant offers a wide range of South Indian dishes with a twist. The dosa menu itself consists of two pages, each dish ensuring the preservation of taste of the dosas.
My favourites would be onion pakoda (Vengaya pakoda) to accompany it with a filter coffee, served in a mud cup as starters. The South Indian thali offered by Tamarind Tree reminds of home with its perfectly done Sambar, Rasam, curries and a cup of curd. If you want to indulge your taste buds in authentic South Indian, I suggest you to try this restaurant out.
The ambience is lowly lit, with fans in some corners of the room. During the summers, on specific days, they provide tamarind water to allow the body to cool down. Soft music along with perfectly served meals allows you to enjoy and savour every moment. The price is a little too expensive.
Overall rating: 4/5
The most attractive thing about this place is it's ambiance , it has small huts and village like decorations with beautifull seatings areas , dim yellow light and got cozy vibes.
Their sand decoration on tables is something creative.
Service is prompt .
They serve south Indian and Chinese meals .
Food is good in taste for the cost they charge.
I tried their masala dosa , butter paneer masala dosa , munchow soup spring rolls and midnight beauty mocktail , all tasted good .
They also serve welcome drinks in starting , but we got that drink only on one of my visit on other two visits they didn't offer any welcome drinks .
Food is good and tasty with a typical South Indian taste brought closer to the North . Packaging of dosa can and must be improved . At present it comes in long open sleeve envelopes .
Nice place to go with family for dinner. Delicious food specially if you love south indian food then its one of the place you must visit. Coffe is also good.
Just love this place..The service is nice. The environment is calm that makes everything great..Not that heavy on pocket
Favorites include: Chinese; Naram Garam;Dosa is great as well
Great South Indian restaurant. Cheese dosa was simply superb... Service was quick and ambience was good. Good for people who want to try South Indian in Allahabad.
Great place for South Indian food lovers. Their dosa is a must try. Lovely ambience, cooperative staff and good food is all that makes it a better place to hangout.
Nice ambience with good service. South Indian thali was not as good as it should be. Every item in the thali was full of oil. Dosa were good.
Ambience- the ambience alone is worth it. A sit on floor experience with foot wear off is super cool
Food- South Indian it is and they have added Chinese to diversify the menu which otherwise may not get them customers in Allahabad.
Service- average
Mind blowing menu with ample of varieties to choose from. The quality is up to the mark.
A bit expensive. But over all its a tingle in the tastebuds.🙌🏻
One of the finest n classy Resturant’s in Allahabad
Not over priced
Service here is good
Slow music decent ambience
Mainly serves “South Indian & Chinese “ dishes
N welcome drinks are always up to the mark
Loved the place must visit
Found the restaurant through Zomato and am sitting here now. The seating arrangement of the place is good, perfect for family as well as friends. It has dim light which makes you feel comfortable. I am amazed to see the varieties of dosa they have in the menu. For now I have ordered tomato rice with filter coffee... Let's see how it goes.
This is a must try for a south Indian food lover in allahabad. What i like most about this place is its milieu. Serving staff is courteous. I would suggest to try uttapams here.
Well, an old established and well known for people of the city. Good South Indian food. I would always prefer it over Sagar Ratna. I had always liked the seating part.
The place has a good ambience. It has a variety of south indian food. The food follows mysore tradition. All type of dosa are excellent. It is a place to have a decent south indian food.
I had been to this place in Feb this year and after having good experience revisited this place. However this time I was disappointed due to poor service, it took 35 minutes to serve the fast moving items like dosa, rava idli etc. However the good taste of these food items made it all. This place has a typical south Indian menu with wait staff in South Indian Attire. They have added Chinese cuisine to their menu which looks totally out of place and out taste as well.
The restaurant can be easily located and looks wonderful from inside. A comfy place with friendly staff and archaic ambience. The tamarind tree has a special South Indian touch may it be food or the attire of the staff. The cots are more comfortable than the other seats. The food is average but my favorite was dhaniya masala dosa and chocolate shake. The place is good for chilling and taking innumerable pictures🙈❤
Itsss awsm placeee i celebrated myy birthday heree....i lveeeeee that placeeee...... Ndd
Noodlessss springgg rollss areeeeeee veryyy tasteist....... I should give it a big thum
One of my favourite places to go to for south Indian food in Allahabad.
These guys are serious in what they are doing and are doing it real good.
Overall ambiance of the place is soothing and works wonder if you drop in once in a while.
I've tried every item in the menu and never regretted a bit.
The kutumba dosa is something unique and should be tried if visiting with family.
I went to Tamarind on a Saturday evening and the place was full already and we had to wait for like 20 minutes to get a table. They tried to create a South India like ambience but have really failed at it as it feels like any other restaurant. The food was good actually i would say it was one of the better things that i have tasted in Allahabad. The quantity of the food is not much though so one dosa won't really satisfy your hunger.Overall it was good.I didn't pay much attention to service.Prices are a bit high but i would say its on par with the quality of food they provide.
Lovely interiors with ground and low seating.
It's small in size but big in flavours. Very fond of their south indian food here.
Dosa is must try.
For all the Dosa lovers out there, head on to this very place. They have amazing South-Indian and Chinese food to treat you to. Do try the Garlic noodles, Chilly Potato and Chilly Garlic Babycorn Fritters. I never fail to have these on my plate.
We also have hut like rooms with comfy sofas for family celebrations. I like the ambience. It's serene, calm and beautiful.
I really like their dosa and have been to Tamarind Tree numerous times with friends and family. It is a very good option for dining with guests and family.
One of the oldest and nicest places in the city if you want to have good south Indian food and tasty Chinese selective.
The ambience is nice and the place can comfortably accommodate large groups of people.Recommended for families.
Few of my favorites include:
-Tomato Uttapam
-Paneer Masala Dosa
-Chili Paneer (Dry) with Schezwan noodles
For drinks I go for the Blue Lagoon Mocktail.
Overall the place is always an option if you are a true South Indian food lover..

Very nice ambiance. Very good food. Very very good and prompt service. Excellent place for a family dinner. We had very less time and the person who attended to us nicely guided to the items on the menu that are quick .
As the names tells its a South Indian restaurant hence I've given it 3.5 starts as it justifies its name considering its ambiance and few of its cuisines. The food is very good and made in their authentic, traditional way but the taste is not what all North Indians will like. However I liked it specially the Rasam Papad (served as starter).
The service is bit slow.
I got to know about this place through Zomato, while looking for the places to dine in the city. So, I went for the dinner with my cousins. From outside it looks like a bungalow, but once you will enter the bungalow you will get the restaurant. The ambience is very good, even the interior of the restaurant is well designed. Once you will enter the place you will see the Tulsi Plant at the front which will give you a home like feeling. The sitting arrangement is also done in two styles. On the front the sitting pattern is designed in village style & at the back you will find it in modern city style. The dinning tables which are at front are of low height, so u will have to sit after removing your shoes.
Talking about the food, we order 1 Singapuri Noodles, 1 Masala Dosa, 1 Cheese Plain Dosa and 1 South Indian Thaali. The service was prompt, within 10 - 15 minutes we got our order. The quantity of the food was quite enough. Each and every item was good in taste, be it Dosas, Noodles & Thaali. The quantity of Thaali was quite enough for 2 people. Overall the quality and quantity of food was upto the mark.
Talking about the staff, they were quick in their services. They were dressed in typical South Indian Style. I even asked one of them to click pictures for us. Overall, it was a nice experience. Would love to visit the place again.
It was a trip with the family for a night of dosas. The ambience was good, as the owners have attempted to recreate the scene from a village in Southern India, however, overall the food lacked the oomph. The dosas were nice & crispy, but were lacking the authentic flavors. The proportion of masala to the dosa was off. Would i go here for another night of satisfying my South indian food craving, probably not.
The to go order for the masala dosa was packed meticulously.
Overall, a good but non memorable experience!
Eatsalott a good place to have south indian cousins. A bit lack of spices but the chutney and rasam is really good. Prices are affordable and quantity as well as quality is also good.

One of the first places to serve proper south Indian food in a proper restaurant in Allahabad. Not located in the main commercial area, so can be hard to find at first.
The ambience is nice and seating spaciously sufficient.
Service is decent. And the food is good. Definitely will recommend it.
I went in the afternoon with my friends and this place didn't make us sad! It's pure South Indian restro with some mouthwatering dishes.we had coconut uttapam ,butter masala dosa, noodles(one of my friend choice ) and filter coffee..and it was fantastic with different dips and chatnees ..
So the plus points are
Beautiful ambiance
Seatings are comfortable whether you choose chairs or down seatings
Delicious food
Cons
Slow service
In fact I think there was only one server for the flooring seating ..
Overall it was great evening ..
Keep it up :)
An authentic south Indian restaurant, best part being its ambiance with a desi look, the waiters are also dressed up in lungi-Kurta, adding to desiness. Food is also very South Indian, best in the category. Service is also very good.

Tamarind Tree is an authentic South Indian restaurant in Allahabad. The seating area is peaceful and the ambience is great! I used to be a regular customer there and had been to this place many times. I had also celebrated one of my birthday there. The food used to be great till some years ago. The taste used to be very good. However, on a recent visit, I didn't like the taste and everything tasted stale. The service is just OK, not good and not bad.
The place was quite peaceful with lots of interesting interior decoration. The entrance was wonderful with lots of plants. Ambience was good and the seating arrangement was amazing. We ordered veg spring rolls and fixed thali. The items were quite satisfactory in quantity. Rasam, curd and coconut curry were excellent and the sambhar was same north Indian style sambhar. Spring rolls were stuffed with lots of cabbage and onions which were moderately cooked. Overall the experience was good. The menu is different from what they are showing here. I am attaching the updated menu. ☺
Only one bad thing about this place is dat its a only vegetarian place apart from dat i just love the schezwan noodles which i tried paneer was superb
I love the ambience of this place it is simply superb but one disadvantage its a only vegetarian place tried garlic paneer wid noodles taste superb also like der welcome drink
A 1st choice place for people who loves to dine in non-crowdy place. Staff was very well behaved. A hygienic south Indian restaurant for south Indian food lovers.
I had heard a lot about this place from my friends who are from Allahabad. Since I was in town I decided to give it a try.
The place is very beautifully decorated with wooden lamps and chairs! The walls are covered with art work done with jute ropes! I was truly mesmerised by its beauty.
We had ordered a cheese plain dosa which seemed a rarity in most south Indian restaurants. And just my friend said- the dosa is worth it! It has the perfect amount of cheese. The sambar isn't very spicy which makes it suitable for all palates.
They welcome you with a rather unusual but delicious imli drink.
High on flavours and low on cost!
This place is a gem!

Now this was a case of an awesome restaurant in our dear old Allahabad. The ethnic look of the restaurant, the appetizer offered on your table makes it fully Indian, if a little 'South' before Indian. Being weird we decided to try mushroom and cheese dosa and it was deliciously mouthwatering. Had filter coffee after a long time, me being a bit more black coffee person found it okay but my friend found it much better than the hot coffee brew generally offered.
The tamarind tree in civil lines is a pure vegetarian restraunt but the place is obviously very nice and cozy ambience is really very nice over here you enjoy the company we tried der chilli paneer hot garlic paneer wid chowmein and rice hot garlic paneer was yum it melts in mouth however chilli paneer wasnt very good but overall we enjoyed it services were poor not at all good infact der ac was also not working so it was quiet hot and humid
The Tamarind Tree is a great place for a
meal, specially for vegetarians. pleasing
rural setting, courteous and swift waiters,
food that is green and healthy.one of the best restro
of ald.
It's like the second home for me.
I live near about 100m from this place, and it is among the most peaceful and well maintained sort of place, for a proper elite crowd.
The food is very tasty, your sound Indian and Chinese stuffs are delicious and for family friends any purpose, a great place to be.
Just maintain it like this. 😊
