Review Meiphung - Baga

Pradnya pai vernekar
Amazing north eastern food which is something unique in Goa. Ambience is basic and nothing fancy but the food is excellent.Must try their mussels , prawns and Chicken Karpaw. Brace yourself for some spicy food. They customize your order as per your requirements. Also tried their Berry mocktail which was so refreshing. Owner Livingstone and the hotel staff is super friendly and courteous.

It's been months that me and my friends have eaten multiple times in meiphung, didn't got to sit down and appreciate in written as we were travelling here an there. So I want to share our experiences, been away from home and getting to know about this place is a blessing. Everything is perfect here, getting raw king chilly as a compliment was just amazing 🥺beef and pork curries are out of the world. Friendly environment and such kind hearted owner and their staffs. One fine evening one of my friend got unwell and couldn't join us for dinner, getting to know that, they prepaid her some hot soup and boiled curries in addition. This place is rightly a home away from home. You cannot miss this place if you're northeastern and is in Goa. I'm dying to visit this place again. Hopefully very soon 💟

Excellent and delicious NORTHEAST CUISINE. PORK with Snail was the real treat. Prepare so well and so tasty, how people should serve their homeland food. They were very generous with the quantity as well best quality. Best pork in Goa.

So lucky to have found this place among such an unexpected location. Was craving for some delicious pork and their food satiate it completely. Was welcomed by smiling face of Mr. Livingstone and a cute server. Ordered somked pork stir fry as a starter which was so yummmm! Was perfectly cooked blended with spices and herbs. And then our main course was a surprise too. We ordered smoked pork Naga curry in which they gave us two big sized ribs with bamboo shoot (wasn't expecting ribs at all). The curry and meat was delectable. A must visit for anyone who wants to taste Northeastern food in Goa.

Knowing the food will be spicy we requested for zero spice 🌶 option for our friends. They came up with chicken mushrooms (shiitake) + a tinge of Southeast Asian Tulsi. They loved it.

Try this place out for an awesome Naga food delicacy. The ambience was ok, but their food was great. The only thing I felt was the portion size which was smaller than we expected according to the price range. Their Traditional Hot Naga Pork curry was droolworthy. I missed their Rice Beer as it was not fully fermented. Service was very personalized, which I liked it. Ambience: ⭐⭐⭐ Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The place is nice and on road, ambience is good but I was disappointed with food. Except for raw papaya salad and juices the food was not upto the mark. Fish felt stale . They served a frozen fish and didn't have variety in fishes .....in Goa.... Order was wrongly taken. Not very happy.

Visit this lovely and authentic North East food restaurant on the Baga Arpora Road. We had some Naga Rice Beer followed by squids in butter garlic sauce. Very well done and great taste as well. The Naga Pork Curry was really nice with lots of meat with some fat portion as well as we like it that way. Black sticky rice goes well with it and is very good for health too. The boiled bamboo shoots were just a complimentary dish we asked for separately and we had the dry fish fermented chutney along with it. Remember that this chutney is very spicy and is good to clear your sinuses!!! I just loved it for it's flavour and taste. We also ordered the pork fried rice which was not as great as the Naga food which we really enjoyed. The staff are very helpful in selecting what to order as they are also from the North East States like Nagaland and Manipur. Great place to eat out in Baga without emptying your wallet. Definitely going back for more!!!

Oh Wow! Everything we had was just cooked to perfection. I have to mention that we went with friends who are regulars know just what to order. Even then the food was amazing! Special mention to the crispy Aubergine, chicken Momos, black rice and the Naga dal. And of course how can I forget the north Eastern rice beer. The only thing I did not care much about was the dry beef salad, but the beef eaters among my friends swear by it. Must vivit Meiphung when you are in Goa next!!!!

Brilliant service and even better food...
We had the Momo's, the Mussels & the Tom yum prawn Soup for the first course and everything was in point. Nothing to complain about.
For the second course we had the traditional got naga pork curry with black rice and the fish in chili garlic sauce with fried rice. What can I say... The Naga curry was out of this world...
This restaurant is highly recommended...
Service was quick, food was great and we all left extremely satisfied...
I absolutely loved the place. I cannot stop dreaming of the smoked beef salad! The food tasted so fresh and the flavours drove my mind crazy. Every bite had a medley of flavours that was nothing like I had tasted before. The food was delicious and not greasy at all. I usually don’t eat so much but I left feeling like I had eaten just the perfect amount. I’m definitely going back there again with anyone who wants to go there :P

I am gonna keep this review short. Ambience, service and food - 5/5. Everything I tasted was really good and authentic. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Heard about this place from a friend, surely wanted to try it out.
Amazing space , very happy friendly vibe..
Naga food is just top, super spicy but if you ask them to keep it light it's great.
Will surely come back again ..

This place is absolutely amazing the moment you walk up the staircase and look around, you feel you are transported to another place. The ambience and seating is very spaced out. Unfortunately for us, during the monsoons their outdoor seating is closed. The swain indoors feels very homely and the staff are very attentive.

They have the most amazing Rice beer I’ve ever had in my life. I just ordered it by chance and it’s literally my favourite beer now. The smell at first takes you by surprise it has a very fermented smell, but take one sip and you’ll be in love.

We ordered for a lot of food. Pork momos, Beef Momos, Smoked Beef Salad, Srpingrolls, Stir Fried Pork, Black Sticky Rice, Chicken with Fermented Bamboo Shoots and Egg Noodles with Chicken.

The Momos do take a while to get prepared around 20-25 mins. The wait is totally justified as the meat is so flavourful and the wrapping is so light.

Smoked Beef Salad - They smoke most of their Beef so if you are looking for a succulent steak or strips of beef be warned now. The beef is more on the lines of Jerkey in texture. It’s dried and shredded but that doesn’t take away from how good it is.

Spring rolls - We ordered for the Vegetarian ones, he spring roll sheets were crisp and fried perfectly, but the dish lacked much flavour.

Stir Fried Pork - The pork was very flavourful and meaty which was good considering most other places that serve pork serve 70 percent fat and 30 percent meat. The sautéed vegetables served with it were also really good.

The Chicken with Fermented Bamboo Shoots was average at best. The Bamboo Shoots were fantastic but the chicken and gravy were a bit of a let down.

Egg Noodles with Chicken - This was the best main course among all that we ordered. The noodles were really good and the whole dish worked well together.

Black Sticky Rice - Looked amazing but tasted a bit off.

This place is a really good restaurant to visit and you should definitely drop by if you have a liking for North Eastern Cuisine. The appetisers are miles better than the main course, the service is good and the servers are very helpful. If you do decide to visit do try the Rice Beer it will not leave you disappointed.

Soups are absolutely delectable and the food is prepared fresh, so expect a bit of wait time before your food makes it to you. The family that runs the place is a lot of fun to converse with. The Naga Dal and the Tom kha soup are personal favourites. Great job overall!

I first got a taste of Meiphung from a joint event that was held at Tierra Y Mar. The Traditional Pork curry that was served to me over there was awesome. So I decided to visit Meiphung.

The ambience isn't very nice and it feels incomplete. The staff are extremely kind and do a good job explaining the menu.

The food took a lot of time to get out from the kitchen. I ordered the Pork curry and it tasted nothing like the one I had earlier. The pork meat was a little tough and didn't have any smoky taste to it. When I asked the waiter regarding the pork, he told me that they buy pork everyday and there was bound to be a slight difference in the texture of the meat. He didn't respond to my question regarding the pork curry not being smoky enough. Having said that we also had the Chicken Momos which were full of flavour. The Tamarind cocktail was very nice and different. The black rice was superb

On my second visit, I went for the Pork Curry again and, it didn't meet my expectations this time as well. It mostly had only pieces of fat. There was a huge difference from the first time I had it to what I was served on these two visits. Tried the beef salad as well and it wasn't impressive as-well. This time I had to wait for an hour for my food to get to the table.

The price is pretty decent. The place could also do with some sort of live entertainment.

Because of these two bad experiences I wouldn't want to give Meiphung another visit.

Being the first northeastern restaurant in Goa run by a Northeastern couple this place surely does justice to the cuisine. Meiphung is an aesthetically pleasing riverside restaurant hidden near the Baga creek. The food is flavoursome with the right amount of spice. Each dish we tried was truly authentic and tasty including the Thai food served here.

I went here today afternoon for lunch. Loved the ambience. Feels like you are in a North Eastern state. Loved the food. Authentic North Eastern food. If you are from the North East and missing home food, or in goa and want to taste authentic North Eastern food, this is definitely a place to be. Had the wheat beer but the bottled one. The original wheat beer was not available. Please do visit this place. Loved the food and the ambience.

This restaurant was introduced to me by one of my ex service staff who is from Manipur. With an absolute love for spicy food I decided to check this place out. Monday night seemed pretty dead since we were the only ones there. A very nice ambient place with a good amount of greenery and plants around. Nicely lit up and not too bright. Excellent service to say the least. They serve Thai and Northeast food, but only wanted to do the northeastern grub. Was suggested some really good dishes , some of whose names I don't remember. To start with we had the spicy beef salad and the stir fry pork ( keep in mind that beef is primarily aged/jerk style, which means it's going to be dry and very chewy) the spices were a little light for me and my friend but still it tasted real good. The stir fry pork was excellent too, it had the crunchy veggies and the pork was melt in your mouth like!.
To wash it all down was the epic rice beer, I would term it more like (fermented starchy rice water/ very similar to toddy) it's more of an acquired taste, you will either love it or hate it. Do ask if you could taste a little before ordering it, and also a word of CAUTION - You will not know when the rice beer hits you, it's very very potent to have more than 4. You will end up crawling out rather than walking.
Anyway back to the food. For main course we tried out the Manipur style beef in Dal, a red curry pork dish, a vegetable dish with potatoes and the famous fish chutney. Except for the steam rice everything else was DYNAMITE, spices that will set you on fire. I find it hard to describe the sadistic pleasure of having spicy food. Loved every bit of it. Overall a wonderful experience and I can't wait to go back there.
(PS : do inform your waiter/Stewart about how spicy you like your food, and tell him you want it spicy only if you have a death wish)

Genius-level food and service to match. Try the smoked beef salad, the fried pork, the momos, the sesame pork... And a side of iromba with anything you're having!

Came here because I like to try new foods. Had tons of stuff here
The pork with fermented bamboo was very flavorful though the pork feels a little tough because it's smoked. But still yum.
The Sinju I love. It's like a super spicy cabaage salad. Interesting flavor
My friends tried the Thai tofu, spicy fish with Thai herbs were good.
Also had the black rice and naga Dal which you must sample. Try it with the white rice. It's equally good.
Be ready for the spice. The Naga Chilli will come through.
Overall we loved the place and we'll come back.

I always had this wish to try the spicy flavour of the famous King Chilli which is known by different names i.e. Ghost Pepper, Raja Chilli or Umorok. To my luck, at Meiphung I fulfilled my wish.

The place looks very nice as its in an old Portuguese house with ample of space for fresh air. There is outdoor and veranda seating with lots of plants around which lifts the ambience of this place. Staff were very friendly and the owner himself gave us a warm welcome and showed us around.

We tried a few dishes which included different salads, deep fried prawns, smoked beef and mussels. All the dishes were prepared and presented in their traditional northeast asian style and they were exceptionally great. Since we were at it, we decided to try their local beverage and had an ice cold wheat beer. Its nothing like a typical beer as its thick and got a very strong fermentation aroma but it would be injustice not to try their local beer which according to me isn’t that bad to wash down all the hot spicy food your throat. I was with my girlfriend who is from Manipur and she says she felt like home after trying their food.
Ghost Pepper Experience:
So I fulfilled my wish of trying the Umorok. As soon as I took the first bite, I had a blast of a thousand chilies inside my mouth. Its taste is phenomenal and it brings your taste buds to life, which makes all the appetizers taste so much better. The restaurant grows their own Ghost Pepper locally in Goa and even though they say its not as hot as it is in Manipur, for a Goan man it was still an amazing experience of hot food.

Well done Meiphung!

Located along the baga river, Meiphung is an authentic north-east restaurant. The art of the wall depict a traditional north-eastern home. They have created a model village kitch as well for visitors to experience. The staff is very trained, enthusiastic and extremely helpful in explaining the preparation of the items on the menu. In the last 10 days, we have visited them twice already and many more visits to come.

They have a bar with standard selection but one must try the freshly brewed rice beer. they have both indoor & outdoor seating and planning to start event night with brands performing for the guests. If I have to rate the place,

Food: 4.5/5
Quality: 4.5/5
Service: 4.5/5
Ambience: 4.5/5
Price: 4.5/5

Overall, 4.5/5, highly recommended. Work of caution, even mild spice is lip burning spicy. You can test your spice endurance here.

One of the most places to get some amazing lip smacking Naga Food ! The ambience is superb and the owner is really warm and friendly as well. Had an amazing dinner with some authentic Naga food. Was so busy enjoying the food that missed out on clicking pics of the food 😊

You cannot miss out on this place if you around Calangute and Baga !

Simple place, tasty food, good host!
I discovered this place when the season was ending in goa in the month of April or May! I loved the combination of the hospitality style and the food served. For northeasterners this must feel like home away from home. For others who are foodie, this is a great place to experience some spicy smoked meats served in traditional plates in a simple way but delicious food. I have tried Thai from their menu and they do a good job in both veg and non veg section.
I was welcomed by a humble gentleman who turns out to be the owner himself, what a feeling of homeliness to dine in such place in a beautiful place like Goa!
I've been a regular since then. Cheers !
