This is a very good Japanese restaurant! The staff are very polite and the food tastes very good. The prices are also worth it.

The best of the best for Japanese Restaurant in town; quality of food with reasonable price. The staffs were very helpful and also recognised returning guest. They remembered preferences and all. Yataii is my favourite Japanese restaurant in Bangalore.

Wow. Great food. Perhaps the best Japanese food in Bangalore. Wonderful ambiance and service. Obliging staff. Reasonable prices. Definitely recommend. An update : Yataii has a fantastic new Chef from Japan. Yoshinori Mizutani San, Samurai Chef extraordinaire, who has infused a new sparkle to the fabulous menu through his presentation. Must try - chicken gyōzas, shitake mushrooms, spicy tuna Maki, tuna Hamachi carpaccio (italian Japanese fusion), cream cheese and asparagus Maki, miso black cod, seaweed (Wakame) salad and the veg pancake. Without a doubt, one of India's finest and world class Japanese restaurants. Thank you to chef and Sharda for making our experience memorable.

If you love Japanese cuisine then you should check this place. The place has comfortable seating arrangements with nice view of Bangalore skyline. The dishes taste amazing… The uramaki, sushi & sashimi preparation, presentation and taste is very good. The Ebi Tempura is a must try dish.

A posh Japanese restaurant in the magnificent Shangri-La hotel . Besides the exotic view of the city from 18 th floor the restaurant offers some mouth watering japanese dishes. Our maitre ' de Vijay , was very hospitable and helped me through the selection of various dishes ( me being new to the cuisine). He not only explained the various dishes but also helped choose the best.He also suggested few modifications based on personal taste, which made dishes more delicious . I had ordered vegetarian ume and my husband ordered non veg matsu. Ume and Matsu are basically 7 course meals including appetizer , salad , main course , soup , dessert etc. Portion size is also good to accommodate all 7 courses , flavours bang on japanese . Veg appetizer was picked cucumber and radish , lady's fingers in soy , one mixed veg croquette , salad was a a mix of greens with pickled cucumber, carrot , radish in a seaweed tampura crunchy base , absolutely mouth watering. I also had veg dumplings , spicy noodles , and tofu in the following meals . Dessert was a super silky absolutely lip smacking panna cota with tempura ice cream. We ordered on cocktail Gari shu - pickled ginger and pomegranate beautifully muddled in a exquisite drink. Sake - Senjyu Kyubota Sake bottle which was really good but more pleasing to people with those taste flavours , my husband liked it a lot , I thought it was different .;) They also have an elaborate bar with drinks from all around the world . On the cons side , it's fine dining , in Shangri-La , be ready to shed some extra bucks for this. A must try for an authentic Japanese cuisine and flavours.

Very nice and stylish place. The service is excellent only topped by the food. I had one of there 7 course menus to try as many things as possible and was not disappointed. Everything tasted great to perfect, even the things I was sceptical about at first. You also have a nice view over parts of Bangalore if you sit on the window side because we are at the 18th floor of the Shangri-la Hotel. For me a clear 5 out of 5.

This place was amazing asf. The view from the skylounge on the 18th floor, the sake served in cauviars and small sake cups and light Japanese music playing in the background gives you the vibes of a authentic izakaya. The food is amazing although a bit on the pricier side which is to be expected from this kinda place. And they have a very good collection of drinks including several types of sake.

i had a good experience here for my wife’s bday. place was pretty quiet when we got there friday at 830 but they knew my reservation from ez diner (i like making a booking without talking to anyone) and the last minute note i jotted down saying wife bday. so they even gave us a cake which was cool. please do get the sushi platter; my wife is veg, i’m a carnivore and they hooked it up and even gave us some extra veggie stuff without compromising on the non veg. (i didn’t want the platter if he was going to reduce the seafood). not cheap but not small quantity either so it’s pretty good if you want proper sushi. manager was also nice. the pork i had (the slow roasted) was nice but i should have ordered the pork belly instead. crispy avaocado roll was amazing and best i’ve had in bangalore, so soft and creamy. the noodles we get were okay tho probably should have opted for the ramen instead. highlight was def the platter tho 😻😍

Simply loved the food. Loved the ambiance. Staff were courteous. Food ingredients were fresh. A must try for all the Japanese cuisine lovers. I was able to try the actual wasabi for the first time.

Booked a table for dinner on the 14th. Waited for an hour just for the menu which we eventually did not get and had to leave without any food or service cause they were so severely understaffed. Bad management. Very disappointing experience.

I am a huge fan of Japanese food & to top it I am a vegetarian. I have practically dined at every Japanese restaurant in Bengaluru & I can so confidently vouch for Yataii above all other Japanese restaurants. The moment you enter the restaurant you are welcomed by a member of Vidur’s (manager) team. They ensure that you are comfortably seated & then go on to share the menu & they also know what to recommend in terms of dishes that would match ones taste buds. The taste of the food is impeccable & the options that they have for even vegetarians like me are amazing. Even to this day I try to visit other Japanese restaurants but end up choosing Yataii as they don’t match up to these guys in terms of service, food & ambience. Also, their bar creates some really tasty mocktails & cocktails,
I highly recommend anyone reading this review to give these guys at least one try & most likely it won’t be your last.

Good ambience. But doesn't create the magic u expect from shangri la and Japanese..its just ok in terms of taste, noodles were pretty oily n tasteless

If you looking for authentic Japanese food in Bangalore then this place should be at the top of your list. Superb attentive service. Excellent food quality and exclusive ambience. I would recommend everyone to dine in here if y’all looking for authentic Japanese cuisine.

The sushi portions are decent. Tastes good. I loved the pork and beef here. The staff here is friendly and very helpful. It’s on the 16 floor (if I’m not wrong), so you have a good view as well.
HASHIM RASHID
Good Japanese food prepared and supervised by real Japanese chefs. Really enjoyed the decor, service and food. Prices are pretty good for what you get.

Great food and service, and definitely the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Bangalore! Great teppanyaki chef as well, thank you Salik for the wonderful dinner, we’ll be sure to be back!

Stunning view of the city with great quality Japanese food & some great sake options . Excellent for late family dinner . Staff was comforting & courteous. One thing that stands out of yataii when compared to other restaurants is that food served here is high quality fresh food, this includes fish as well .

Yataii is THE best japanese restaurant I've been to!!
Their sushi is fresh unlike most restaurants which use frozen products. Plus the staff are really friendly and even gave us 2 complimentary drinks for free which was a really nice gesture!
HANDS DOWN BEST EXPERIENCE I'VE HAD!!

Been here 4 times now and it is my go to place when I have a craving for Japanese (which seems quite frequent). Food is as good as any I have had overseas, really dig the staples ie sushi, sashimi, maki rolls, tempura and some exceptional grills. Hopefully a 5th visit in the works!

I went here for a special Ramen Festival happening and I wasn't disappointed. The Ramen was very Succulent and I loved the service. Everyone was very helpful and it was a beautiful experience. Easily the best date I've ever given myself.

One of the best japanese restaurants in town. Have been there multiple times. The tempura prawn with wasabi mayo is a must have along with with the prawn tempura sushi roll. The spicy avacado roll was very good the first time but has dipped in quality since. Also, tried the pork pancake this time and was highly impressed.

The scene was set for a beautifully simple yet complex, flavourful meal at Yataii with a perfect view to match...To start the fabulous Japanese meal with... We were served a wonderful amuse bouche of a vegetable roll with some to-die for black sesame sauce and a beautifully made hearty vegetable Miso soup with silken tofu, tender Bamboo shoots and sea weed... The flavours were on point and it just whetted our appetite for the rest of the meal to be followed. The appetizers.... Shake sushi - Norwegian Salmon nigiri sushi... Fresh Salmon which jus melted in your mouth... Followed by the ever popular California Roll- Crab stick with cucumber roll topped with tobiko.... This was beautifully rolled and the flavours were just superb... All served with some potent wasabi and gari the pickled ginger and soy... They were just the right amount to make us wanting more from our meal!!In continuation of the meal at Yataii when I saw pork was a part of the mains menu.... How could I resist!!! Ordered Buta Yaki - Beautifully succulent sliced pork loins cooked in a fragrant ginger sauce accompanied with a lovely fried rice. This was a perfect main which filled our stomach well n satisfied my pork urges !!! The second option had to be prawns, Ebi Yaki - Beautifully butterflied prawns cooked to perfection in a lovely butter soy and lemon sauce served with noodles... Every bite was fresh and succulent. Hence, the mains of Oink n Prawns made my meal a very very satisfied one!!! To round off the beautiful meal we had desserts... Picked these two delightful one's... Goma Ice-cream - Homemade Sesame ice-cream with sweet azuki beans.... Beautiful flavours of sesame shinning thru and we had Thapthim Grop - Absolute delight this one was... Fresh sweet juicy ruby colored gems, the water chestnuts in a slightly sweet rich creamy coconut milk. What a perfect way to end a fabulous meal!!! Impeccable service, beautiful ambience and my love for Japanese food... It was a perfect amalgamation... A feast truly one for the books... A memorable meal indeed !!!

They say first impression is a last impression and i got the same feeling here at yataii i was never into the Japanese cuisine but I'm sure after having a dinner at yataii my whole taste buds is changed now. Staffs were freindly and especially ranvir and vijay chef were incredible.

It's been more than 2 years I've been coming to this place the food quality hasn't changed a bit and the service. If you are confused where to go and eat japanese food well here is your answer guys dont waste your time hurry up and visit yataii. I would definitely recommend yataii for the best Japanese restaurant in the city..

Friday night at this place was spent well having conversation with my family and dining brilliant food. The food was not only pleasing to the taste buds but also a treat to the eyes. Since im a turned vegetarian it was the second time I was trying veg 🍣 sushi and was quite skeptical as to how it would be. When the platter arrived I was amazed by all the colours and flavours ranging from ingredients like avocado, asparagus and tempura. We went on to order kimchi, dumsums and another plate of spiced avocado sushi. The end of the meal was machha ice cream which was a very different flavour and a perfect end to a good meal.
Highly recommend this place and I'm waiting to try the weekend brunch which has a live teppenyaki among other options.
Special thanks to Vinay and the hospitable team at the restaurant for a great dining experience.

Great food overall, but particularly loved the sushi. Prices weren't as steep as I was expecting + Zomato gold made it a little more enjoyable :)
A cozy, classy ambience and friendly service.

Yataii used to be one of my favourite restaurants in the city, however on my latest visit the quality has dropped. Not sure if they’ve changed the chef or what the problem is but the food was not up to the standard that it used to be :( Had the shrimp tempura which was very good but the okonomiyaki and other dishes were not as good as they once were.

#JapaneseCuisine

This was the first time I tried Japanese Cuisine and I wasn't disappointed.
We got the #SushiPlatter to begin with as suggested by the waiter since it was the first time we were trying this cuisine. There were 9 types of Sushis to try in the Platter. Expect one or two we liked them all.
We then got the Dimsums which were good too.

The waiter was courteous enough in helping us decide what to order.
Just wished if he had told more about the dish he had suggested to order.

Great meal. I couldnt flaw a single dish. Lovely view, super service - as you can tell, we enjoyed ourselves.

Highly recommend visiting for a nice night out on the town.

Went for a dinner with my family and we had a lovely experience.
It was the first time for my parents with Japanese food and they loved it!
We went for teppanyaki and the Chef graciously cooked us some delicious dishes
The pan seared sea bass
Pork belly
Some fried rice
We had had some edamame, an avocado based sushi and another sushi whose name I have unfortunately forgotten.
For dessert we tried the Green Tea and Sesame Ice Cream!
Everything tasted delicious, just as it should, but the Green Tea Ice Cream was a total winner for me!
The sea bass could’ve been better.
But we all, definitely had a great time!
We had a wonderful meal at Yataii. The service was excellent. The staff, especially Uddhav, was very curteous. Uddhav recommened the sushi platter and the lobster. Both the sushi and the lobster dish was fresh and delicious. And the restaurant has one of the best view in Bangalore!
Karishma Dugar
Love the dimsums and the veg sushi platter (how they managed to make rice and leaves taste that good, I will never know!) service of course is impeccable. The place is perfect for a quiet dinner! Highly recommended!

And it was my birthday! With my husband and cousins, 4 of us visited the restaurant, since I am the one who loves experimenting with my food, with only one condition of it being non-veg, n even better if it’s sea food in particular.
Since I was trying Japanese cuisine for the 1st time, it took me a while to decide what I want to order. Right from the cocktails to the starters to the main course it was a super gastronomical journey. I could not think of any negative points to calm out and hence the rating. The menu for each course was massive. Though it’s little heavy on pocket, I would love to visit again.

Great food and excellent staff like udhav raj 👍the sushi and BBQ are excellent over here. You should
Really come here and eat amaaaaing food

One can never go wrong with Yataii as the Japanese food is truly amazing. I absolutely love the sushis especially the california roll, it was splendid. The Lobster we ordered was bang on perfect as the flavours were just right. The Tepayanki food is definitely what i’d recommend trying as they’re famous for that and it’s much more exciting to see the food being cooked infront of you.

We decided to celebrate 3 years together by trying out Yataii - an absolute true gem. Firstly Shangri La hotel maintains some impeccable standards for f&b. VFM food can be found at Yataii. Upon hearing it was a special occasion, our table welcomed us with petals. We went for the set menu. Round 1 was sashimi salad in Ponzu. Every bite was filled with fresh tastes and flavour and a reminder of the deliciousness to come. Round 2 was chopped tuna in Yuke sauce. Followed shortly by Sashimi in 3 varieties and then were Gyoza dumplings. Our waiter brought us Prawn Fish and Veg Tempura next. The piece de resistance was grilled lobster and prawns. Fresh yet sizzling on a sizzler. Ice cream and Miso soup rounded off a true carnival for the taste buds from start to end. Our only complaints were the staff not asking preference of ice cream or if we were allergic to seafood at time of ordering. Heavenly meal otherwise with a generous serving of subtle and classy ambient settings with likeable mood music had us with wide smiles on our face at the end of the night. Thanks Yataii!

Great food, not so great drinks

Pros - Ambience, food, service
Cons - drinks

Recently visited this restaurant after many recommendation from friends who appreciate good food.
Having lived in Japan and after hearing so many good things about Yayati, I entered the place with extremely high expectations and they did not disappoint.
The food was bang on, as true as it can get. We ordered set course menu and it was more than enough. The sushi and sashimi were fresh and beautifully plated. The only let down were the drinks. We ordered cocktails, they were the smaller measure possible and not potent at all.
The staff was friendly and attentive.
Special mention to Udbhav Raj, for his attentive service. We were there for my daughter’s bday and had a real good time.
Recommend it to any one in search of good Japanese food in Bangalore.

Had been here after few of my French friends insisted I should try their Japanese food. So, if you’re having someone coming back for your food when they visit this country as foreigners, you’re really doing something good!

Food is very delicious may it be any sushi, teppanyaki, dim sums and many such food items. The only thing that bothered me was the flat Thai noodles which was not very enjoyable. Well, maybe it’s an acquired taste!😄

The staff are very helpful in informing about each item in the menu and are very welcoming and courteous.

All in all, this is one of the good places in the city to have good Asian food!👍

I am in love with Japanese food and it was so amazing to visit Shangri LA its nice place to have Japanese cuisine all sushi sashmi. Making rolls the appetizers and the best was tori gyoza. If we talk about service it was so nice and all guys are professional and raahm and aman served well
Global Glutton
We've been here more than twice ... thrice actually ! Thinking that 3rd time will be a charm. Alas!
Ordered a plethora of starters that dint come even close to expectations from a supposed 5*
The 2.5 is for the beef with asparagus and the lovely fragrant Thai green curry! Yes, you read that right ...they get a point for serving Thai curry in a Japanese restaurant 🤣 Saving grace of that dinner.
Live upto standards of what one should expect from a Shangri La ( other than the pricing) !!
Rajesh Chowdhury
The food is awesome. Authentic Japanese and Asian Food with a great ambience and view. Niranjan took good care of us. Restaurant manager Mr. Shetty made our overall experience a memorable one.
Food here was amazing. We ordered traditional 7 course meal and one meal was quite filling for two. And the view from outside seating area is also exciting! Must try for Japanese food in Bangalore.

The food was extremely tasty! Service was excellent.
It was a kids day out and everyone at the restaurant were extremely nice and welcoming. Ambience is just right and view is breathtaking!
Would recommend it to anyone visiting with families/kids - y'all will have a great time

Came with my husband this evening! We were served by Niranjan who made great food recommendations and was extremely courteous and warm! We had the chicken gyoza, teppanyaki mushrooms , lobster and stir fried noodles! All very good!

Was in Bangalore for a couple of days and was dying to have some Japanese. I'm glad I did try this place.
We ordered the 7 course non vegetarian set menu and it was simply fantastic. The staff were very polite and attentive. The seating indoors was beautiful and had a very nice vibe. The view outdoors was great and coupled with the Bangalore weather it was simply incredible. The timing between the courses was good. The sushi was simply great. But the dark chocolate and coconut ice cream was simply just too amazing. Do not miss it!
Chef Amarjeet came out and spoke to us and he was very kind. Can't wait to get back!
Vanessa
Great ambience, very professional service staff, and the quality of ingredients was impeccable. The chefs made an exceptional effort to make us feel special and the set menu is a good way to sample the menu's best offering - definitely recommend!

The best ever Jap food can surely be found here!
Lovely ambience, spontaneous service, quite a vast menu of food and beverages.
Food is freshest and most sterile one would ever eat. Seafood is so fresh that I felt that my Tuna and Salmon were caught less than an hour ago!!! Better than what I have eaten in London. Beef was to die for, the Tempura was a work of art and crispiest ever!!!
I visited Yataii for dinner last night and I feel like going back for lunch today 😁

Who doesn't love Japanese cuisine! And an excellent Operation in an awesome ambience ? The crew members made sure I was having a perfect time early in the evening. Just put on your shoes and head toward Shangri la, The box will take you till Yataii!
Cynthia Dsouza
My husband surprised me to Yataii for my birthday and it made my day. The ambience was perfect. Raj attending the table was very courteous and helped us with the menu. We ordered Salmon cream cheese maki which was delicious. We ordered a 7 course meal - A seafood Omatenashi kaiseki set. Every course was delicious. We ordered Teppaniyaki ( ebi Yaki - lobster prawn soy and lemon). Can't find a fault to it. However it was an overdose of seafood (especially prawns and lobster) and we seemed to have over ordered. A 7 course meal is quite filling and a starter is unnecessary. For some reason they didn't offer us Japanese tea however the 7 course meal kept uses busy ands we didn't care much. The complimentary cake that we received was a dark chocolate mousse cake . It was outstanding and I am craving for it as I am writing about it.

The place is perfect if you are looking for a romantic evening and want to try some nice Sushi. In case you are lost in the Japanese sea of names you can always ask the host Mr. Ranvir. He is well aware of the cusine and will recommend food based on your taste and preferences.
Palak Baid
We went there for an evening snack. The ambiance is perfect and the view is hauntingly beautiful. We tried the Avocado Sushi, which was the perfect blend of crisp outside and the melt in your mouth insides, served with soy and wasabi. The host, Mr. Ranbir was courteous and was well aware of his cuisine, as he was able to guide us through Vegetarian Japanese food, a rarity in my experience. A big thanks to him for changing my perception.

This birthday was fantabulous. As the tradition, since 2007, goes, hubby treated me to Japanese! The restaurant had lovely interiors with shiny glasses placed on a bar located in the middle of the restaurant. The Sushi and sashimi were yummy but the salmon sashimi was so big and fresh, I suddenly found myself having a foodgasm!!! My 4 yr old daughter and I flipped on that till the end. Of course, due to the sky high prices we cannot afford to eat there too often so I'm waiting patiently for the next time we go there.

Prompt service, great food. Friendly staff, and very accommodating.

My family and I came to Yataii to celebrate my birthday. From the sushi platter to the celebratory cake, every bit of our experience was delightful and enjoyable.

I highly recommend this place if you want to come out with friends/family for a nice quiet dinner.
Sushi and sashimi, two of my favourite dishes and always in search for places that serve them well! Yataii was always on my places to go for hearing about it from friends who enjoy Japanese cuisine! We were greeted warmly by the hostess who led us to an outside seating area which was nice and comfortable and well enjoyed with Bangalore's weather being at its best (breezy)!

We were pleasantly greeted by Ranvir (manager) and was made sure we were comfortable! So full marks to the service all around! All questions answered and we were taken care off well! So lets move onto the food

Being the greedy pig that I am, V and I ordered the Omotenashi set and the aburi style sushi and sashimi platter! To begin with the set would have been more than adequate if you would like to get your taste of sashimi and sushi but well it's always nice to have more (though it did rack up quite a bill)

The food was delicious! We found that depending on the availability of the ingredients due to various reasons like seasons, the set is changed and catered to the best ingredients available at that time so don't be to harrowed by the fact that you may not get what is in the description but would recommend finding out before you order just in case you tend to be fussy!

We loved every single part of the course! The fired seaweed salad was unique and extremely tasty! The sushi and sashimi were just AMAAZING! So fresh and soft and well FOODgasm was happening! The set by itself is really value for money as you get to taste variety of things which individually would have come to a lot more!

We really enjoyed our experience it and would recommend it for any of you who enjoy Japanese cuisine.

Yes it is on the higher side but when it comes to good food and the rarity of the cuisine, that should definitely not be one the issues!

Thanks Yataii for an awesome dinner!

The menu suggested by MR. Ranvir Singh was very good. He made sure we get to taste all the good food out here. You can rely on him for the menu. We didn't even look at the menu. We relied on him, and yes it was worth trusting him. Thank you ranvir sir.

The best Japanese restaurant in all of Bangalore.
Special thanks to Chef Sandeep, Manager - Sukumar & to all the other servers & hostess who make this restaurant a must visit for all Japanese food lovers. I was here last week & the food was delicious. They have a wide variety of options even for vegetarians.

Very very poor service! They'd make you wait an hour at the table to start service. Even our glasses of wine came in post second course, what etiquette is that?

One place I'd never go back to. I Absolutely love Japanese food. We stayed with Shangri-la to celebrate our anniversary. And chose Yataii as our dinner option. Great ambience got our hopes up. We had the seven course tasting menu. Such a disaster. Not one course tasted right or fresh or worth eating. Such a rip off. Nothing more to say. Shangri-la take your food more seriously.

Tried the 7course meal today as Christmas Special lunch-ending with macha ice cream and doughnut. The meal was delicious. The teppanyaki pork and BBQ' d beef were slightly dry but equally delicious. The service was the world class! An awesome experience!

My wife and I had the best honeymoon dinner ! The food was amazing, the scene is decorative in Japanese style and service was spectacular! In particular Kirti, the waiter, was attentive and talented. He suggested great dish and drinks! The best experience at Shangri-La - we are definitely coming back!!

Quite simply the best Japanese restaurant in Bangalore and probably all of south India for that matter. Flawless service, ambiance, and food. I say this as someone with a lot of familiarity with Japanese cuisine.

A marvellous gourmet place with a huge expanse! Not only was the service great, but eloquent! Their menu had a decent choice of dishes but had zero choice of japanese whiskies(but for one) and poor selection of japanese wines even..one can understand it is a new opening and that scope for more improvement is always there, but highend restaurants of the cuisine must have a well stocked bar of fine japanese malts along with a wide range of sake selection to go with..Also an inclusion of black cod to their seafood list will go a long way. I specifically want to mention Mr Kirti, who helped me choose the right dish, and was someone who was thorough at what he did.. Staff members like him take guest experience to another level!

Great service, views to die for and incredible food - even for vegetarians. Absolute must-visit for anyone who loves Japanese food and has been struggling to find quality sushi in Bangalore!

i guess i had pretty high expectations from yataii- bangalore's latest Japanese offering by Shangri La. I tried this place as part of the restaurant week, and we were less than impressed with the food. Very standard fare. The restaurant week menu didnt offer maki rolls, but had a lot of other choices. The salmon dish was unavailable which was disappointing. The presentation of all the dishes was great, and the staff extremely courteous. We were offered a complimentary mocktail too. The views from the 18th floor restaurant and the surrounding sit outs are amazing. If only the food were so too!

Could not believe that I was eating Japanese food this good in Bangalore... please don't go by reviews written by vegetarians at a Japanese restaurant. Go try it for yourself.

Not cheap but best sushi in Bangalore. Even the desert is awesome. Need to have more deals, like unlimited brunches especially for repeat customers.

YATAII - A MIXED ZEN EXPERIENCE.

My persistent desire for Japanese landed me at Yataii.

Yataii - Walk in - get blown away with the courteousness of the very affectionate staff starting from the security to the valet to the lobby and not to mention the very very courteous staff inside the restaurant too. These things touch me and I am impressed, maybe fake but it helps especially when one is constantly exposed to the grind - niceties are always nice.

Ambience - beautiful but very very chilly. I really hope they re-work the temperatures to make it easier for people like me who do not prefer extreme temperatures. I almost froze as I walked in and spent a lot of time wondering why it was so cold. The cutlery was beautiful and delicately painted porcelain and I simply love those. The view out the window was of my most favourite city in the whole wide world glittering away with the night lights. It was perfect if not for the chill in the space.

And then we were welcomed by the waiter who graciously helped us through with the menu. They do not have a menu on Zomato and my memory is not great with names so will try and write about the dishes with the help of the pics.

To kick off - my husband got a sweet lime and I got a drink called Gari Sho I think (please do not hold me to it as I could be wrong), it’s an alcoholic cocktail made with sake, pomegranate juice, ginger and some other stuff which all blended very well and flowed down quiet smoothly.

To start off Yataii served some complementary veggies in paper rolls which were nice and crunchy and very refreshing. We started with the Nigiri Salmon which is a basic salmon on rice and I always order this because the quality of Salmon is what helps me define the restaurant as good or mediocre or bad and also because it is husband’s fav. The Salmon was perfect, pink, plump, succulent and absolutely fresh.
Then we got the seafood soup (the name of which I miss) which was a light, steamy soup with crab, fish and prawns. The soup is simply japanese and if one is not used to the fishy, misoyi, teriyaki flavours then they must pass. I thoroughly enjoy these flavours - though some may think they are extreme - I personally revel in these flavours. So I was quiet pleased and having a steamy hot sip in the chill felt very very good.

Considering that I had missed my Sushi desperately, we went on a Sushi overdrive and we tried 3 different types of Sushi. The first was the California Maki with crab, fish roe and our absolute fav and I must confess we thoroughly enjoyed it. The second was yellowfin tuna with spices and I did not enjoy this one as much but that is mostly attributed to the fact that I am not a Tuna person. I for some reason have never liked tuna and I hoped that yellowfin tuna would change that but, clearly it hasn't. I may have to completely give up on the tuna bit. Moving to the third one, which was a tempura prawn with avocado and fish roe - now this one was simple delicious. The prawns were perfect and the avocado on the top just sort of brought it all together and the flavours simply burst with each bite taken.

Post this we really could have sat and chatted but mainly the chill did not allow us and we did sort of walk in for an early dinner which is something we must avoid so we decided to get a take away which we could eat at home watching a movie together. I went with a teppanyaki which used lobsters and prawns and fish in soya and lemon sauce and my husband got a Phad Thai.

When we reached home and settled after half a movie to eat again, I pulled the dishes out and was quiet disappointed. One mainly because the food did not match up to what I expected. The teppanyaki is essential served with a selection of vegetables and that was not made available in the take away - also I really wish that atleast these big giants started to think differently and stopped using plastic to hand take aways esp. for food that is not even touched at the restaurant. While for this dish, I complain about missing elements and the packaging - the taste was spot on. Very well made and a definite try but please try at the restaurant. A take away is a terrible idea.

The Chicken Phad Thai however was a terrible terrible mistake. It was packed in plastic and the flavours were all wrong. I have had a better Phad Thai in a much much smaller restaurant called Nasi and Mee. This infact I would say is one of the worst I have ever had.

So all in all, a very mixed experience. Will definitely suggest the place and the Sushi and Sashimi. The Thai they are serving may be really off as experienced and sticking to Japanese may be the best bet. However, I will really insist that they re-work their take away strategies and also attempt to better their Thai or even better just take it off because it is so poorly done.

And when I have now just looked at the Zomato page they also need to work with the Social networking team and seriously redesign their presence here.
Pointers -
1. They definitely need to update their Cost on Zomato - it’s easily 2500 per head and not 1500 for two.
2. They need to put up a Menu there
3. They need to stop writing flighty responses to bad reviews on Tomato and instead put on their thinking hats to really try and tackle the criticism more effectively.

Signing off….

this is the THE place for sushi in Bangalore!, hands down!.

Fantastic food and great ambience! The staff are very courteous and at your service always.

We ordered dragon maki, maguro sashimi, shake nigri and lovely small bottle of hakushika sake. The sushi is absolutely melt in your mouth and delicious. The freshness and quality of the fish is what gives the sushi at yataii is what makes it outstanding

The portion size are just right. So you have an opportunity to try different types of sushi.

Making sushi is an art form and the Itamae (sushi chef) was brilliant!.

We also had some thai green curry and rice and it was good too. The portion of rice is just enough for 1 person, but after eating a ton of yummy sushi the small portion of rice was good.

The restaurant also presented us with a small birthday cake and some of the staff sang Happy Birthday for us! It was such a kind gesture!

Special mention to Chef Antonio Tardi and his wonderful team! and also to Deepshika who attended to us very promptly!

My quest for my favourite cuisine led us to Yataii....
Expectation: Super high to be honest, considering its Shangri La and food is generally good here.
Were they met? Sadly, no. Both in terms of service and food.
Did it work on any level? Yes, it's not a very expensive place so my wallet was not complaining. Definitely cheaper than its counterparts in Bangalore.
Will I go again: No.

In detail:
2 of us went on Friday for dinner.
The restaurant is nice looking with good view and interesting table settings.
We were received at the door by someone who said" You have 2 reservations", to which we replied "No, we have 1 reservation for 2 people". Note to mgmt: Don't put Trainee as the host. Thankfully, service after that improved.
Anyways, we settled in at the side table with a gorgeous view of Blr city.
In food, we settled for:
#Edamame: Simple steamed... Not much can go wrong with that.
#Seaweed salad: Good in presentation but ok ok in taste.
#Veg tempura: Good presentation, very less quantity (1 pc each of 4 veggies to be exact) with accompaniments that no one explained to us. Now I see 3 different things on my plate (green tea powder, ginger paste and something else) but I would like it if someone tells me if they need to be mixed up or eaten separately. All good restaurants do that and no diner takes any offence to it. Anyways, taste of tempura was very average again.
#Spicy avocado roll: Good in taste but poorly made. Was falling apart while resting in the platter.
#Carrot based sushi roll: Poorly made and less than average in taste.

To be honest, food was a total let down. Hence we called it a night and didn't order main course.

Overall damage to pocket was between 2500-3000. This was a relief because the quality didn't justify anything higher.

13th MAR 2016
I went to the cooking academy of Japanese foods of Yataii.
There was the fragrance of the dish at the moment when I entered the restraunt.
The restraunt was large, and a salesclerk was very polite, too.
I learned how to make tempura and sushi this time.
Firstly I had an apron and a hat and learned how to make of the sushi in the place where a motivation was finished.

There is finger sushi that sushi has three kinds of form and to put ingredients materials such as fish on a sushi roll and the rice which rice is wrapped in with sushi and laver such as the California roll and grasp.
I had you tell three kinds of all this time.
Anything was difficult, but thought that finger sushi was the most difficult.
All was delicate from the how to cut of the fish to how to grasp.

I learned how to make tempura next.
A kitchen was very clean and understood that a hygiene side did not have any problem at first sight.
By the tempura, I used the fish such as vegetables and prawns or the cuttlefish.
The sound that fried tempura was comfortable and was appetizing.

A course dish including sushi or the tempura which I learned some time ago in the timing when a stomach was just not crowded was served.
Anything was really delicious and has forgotten to be in India unintentionally.

I told me, and, besides, the best chef could eat a dish and was splendid time.
In addition, I want to participate by all means if there is an opportunity.
Thank you.

We had gone to yataii for Valentine's Day celebrations. Mr Shetty , the manager of yataii was very polite, he explained Japanese cuisine in great detail and with a lot patience. We ordered the vegetarian tasting menu which was tailored made to our very South Indian salt craving palate, it was wonderful but for the sushi which is meant to be a non veg dish anyways. The chef even made heart shaped starters for us.
We also ordered the Japanese pizza/ pancake, it was extraordinary in a good way.
On the whole we loved the place, loved the people working there even more. The view of the city from the 18th floor is spectacular and so is the quiet minimalistic yet classy ambience. Please try this place out if you are in the mood for something different from the ordinary.
Expect well made dishes, polite staff, fair pricing and good view.
The only downer was the dessert, we expected some unique Japanese delicacy but we just got regular chocolate ice cream. Anywho none lost.
