One of the best dining experiences ever. I was very skeptical about the wasabi mushrooms but they turned out be the highlight of the night!! The main course was absolutely delicious but found the serving size to be slightly large for a single person. Might have also been because the starters were so good and we loaded up on that!! The pornstart martini was my favorite cocktail while my friend absolutely loved the lavender paloma!! Definitely coming back here soon!!

Ps : you might want to carry a shawl if you dine at night. Get pretty chilly on the edge!!

Thankyou Asean for the wonderful experience!

The ambience is lovely the staff very friendly. The food is something everyone should try...your taste buds will definitely be hit with different flavours with every bite. Among all the dishes we tried, we would recommend the good fortune soup (for all the soup lovers) it is different from the usual soup but very tasty. Then there was the Thai chilli beef which was our personal favourite and then the hangover noodles.

Dinner is normally the lightest meal of the day and most leisured meal I enjoy after a long day .A friend was visiting and she wanted to go somewhere nice but not just the same old Indian or Chinese . So I decided to go to ASEAN -On The Edge. This is one of my favourite places especially since it’s a roof top restaurant on the13th floor of Barton centre away from all the noise. Sitting up their you can see Bangalore in a very different frame . I’ve had quite a dishes from their menu and all are great . Even their quantity is just perfect for two people . To start off , I had a red wine sangria . I am a big fan of sangria. It was fruity and the wine was just perfect not too sweet . A bit disappointed as the fruits were cut into big pieces and I had too eat it with a spoon later on. We decided to have just two starters. One was San Chow Bow- fresh, crisp lettuce cups that is filled with pork that had just the perfect dash of lime and mint. It was a bit spicy but it was definitely filling and appetising. It had salted peanuts and a salad on the sides They do have a vegetarian and chicken filling , so no one is left out . We also ordered Nonya Butter crunchy prawn. The prawns were well cooked and a good size . It was light and crunchy in texture . It had a salad on the side which cabbage with a dotted with a spicy chilly sauce. Finally for dessert we ordered the Japanese Cheesecake which was served with an orange compote . The cheesecake wasn’t soft as we had thought it would be . It definitely tasted nice and the orange compote complimented it . #midweekdinners #rooftop #quietplaces #starlightnite #redwinesangria #loveforfood #foodporn #foodbloggers #asiancuisine #friendslikefamily

The place has an amazing view of the city. Loved the food. Ambience is great as the music is slow and pleasant to the ears. Price-wise is on the higher side. Overall, its a good option for a family occasion or a candlelight dinner with your date.

Had a nice experience here. Wonderful ambience and decent food. But we found the Tofu Mushroom Broccoli Satay to be too overrated; it was average. The Buttery soft shell crab was tasty (and quite filling actually). Loved the Chiang Mai Risotto with prawns.

The best part about this place is not it's ambiance or it's food, but the non pretentious and genuinely affable staff. The manager especially was suggesting us the best dishes to try and he was even nice enough us to get half portions for me to try various dishes. Will definitely go back to try their new menu after having their authentic and delicious dishes which I do not remember the names of, because they are not mainstream dishes.

Asean ON THE EDGE – If you are old bangalorean ,you definitely would have been to 13th Floor and Ebony. ASEAN is from the same Owners and is one of the first places in Bangalore to introduce the south east Asian food.

Ambiance is very cozy and beautiful open space which gives the view of Bangalore from the center of the city. It is located right in the heart of the city in Barton Center. It can accommodate around 50 people max at full capacity

They do serve alcoholic drinks, the bar is shared with Ebony and the bartender has magic and whipped us some great Cocktails which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Cocktails Tried

Porn Star Martini
Rosemary Gin & Tonic
Penicillin
Lavender Poloma

Salad

Vietnamese Pomelo Salad- Loved the pamelo fruit with shredded carrots, sprouts and crunchy shallots and green lime over mixed green, It was burst of citric and tanginess with sweetness in the mouth. Must Try, loved it

•Tofu Mushroom Broccoli Satay- Cooked in spicy peanut marinate. To be honest, I am not great fan of Tofu but I truly loved and enjoyed the dish and it exactly changed my perception of tofu

•ASEAN Signature Spare Ribs- Streamed, grilled and wok tossed in ginger wine, star anise and sesame sticky sauce. Loved the tingly bit of sweetness, pork so well marinated with spices just perfectly cooked.

Main Course

•Malacca Curry with Roti Jala – It is one of the famous street food in Malaysian prepared during Ramzaan – loved the crispy lacy crepes and coconut curry. Fell in love with the presentation!!! Must Try 😊

Had a memorable "on the edge" experience. We went for oriental stuff and were not disappointed. Started with delectable wasabi mushrooms which left us wanting for more (couldn't help but repeat order it). Nasee goreng was a treat. My friends who are reluctant when it comes to authentic oriental seemed to enjoy the food. We closed with Moksha chocolate dessert which vanished in no time.

Declaration: I'm an absolute sucker for Asian food.

Asean has been on my mind ever since it donned its new avatar. We finally made it here for dinner today and oh my! What a delightful meal it was. The ambience, the setting, the service and the Bangalore rains added to what was already a perfect meal. Needless to say we devoured everything that was put in front of us! Everything was spot on! So soo good! We tried the Som Tam, Baos, Nasi Goreng and Pad Thai. They've nailed the flavours on every single dish! Their cocktail menu was quite a revelation too! Amazing selection and some very interesting concoctions. We ended our meal with Moksha - Baked Chocolate fondant with a side of salted caramel ice cream. I'll just say that it lived up to its name! :) You have to try the food here to believe HOW good it is!

I can't wait to be back, thank you!!

Asean - on the edge is one of the best place to enjoy pan asian food in Bangalore. The restaurant is located on 13th floor of barton centre just next to the famous pub 13th floor. From on the edge one gets a breathtaking view of MG Road, the lush green of cabbon park and this view itself makes your visit worth.
In my two visits I have found the service quite prompt but the place is not big and also very popular. Hence prior reservation is recommended.
Coming to food, I can say its pretty awesome from what I have tried so far. Nonya butter crunchy soft shell crab is a must try. Asean signature pork spare ribs is also nice. Nasi goreng is served with a satay, garlic crackers and pickled vegetables and I loved it.

One of Bangalore’s gems, hidden in plain sight! ASEAN it was today for lunch after ages, and the place didn’t disappoint. The view was especially refreshing, seeing it after a long time.

My friend and I ordered the Tom Yum soup first. That’s my staple in Asian places, and the one here was quite good, especially the big chunks of Ginger. Then came the Crispy Lotus stem. Spicy and full of flavour, this is definitely a standout appetizer here. We also had the house special, Mapo Tofu. Which was nice too, loved the peanuts mixed into the sauce. However the Lotus Stem stole all the attention!

For the main course, since we still had some tofu left, we ditched stir frys and went for Pad Thai and Basil & Chili Fried Rice. The pad Thai came with a generous side serving of peanuts, which you can see in the pic I’ve added. But the sheer number of veggies somehow mask the taste of the noodles (I personally prefer very less veggies, to help bring out the taste of the sauce). The Fried Rice was aromatic.

After a meal like this, we didn’t have room for dessert at all! The service here is superb, and our waiter did an excellent job of following up on my requests for no mushrooms & oyster sauce on my food. It’s a perfect place to spend a laid back afternoon over a long meal. Carry on the good work chaps!

Since the time this place was open, I’ve heard good testimony about it and I so wanted to visit this place and finally made it for a family dinner. Firstly, it’s so interesting that the restaurant is on the 13th floor and it offers a spectacular view of our City; I’m pretty sure that it’s much more mesmerising during the day. Since We came here for dinner, the ambience have minimal lighting with light background music which was pleasant. The staff were courteous and guided us through the menu.
For starters we had the Spare pork ribs-the meat was so juicy and tender and it easily fell from the bone, highly recommend this for pork lovers. The second starter I had was the Nonya soft Crab shell, this was incredible cause it’s my first time trying soft shell crab and I was surprise of how tender and crunchy the shell . For mains I love love the Korean Bulgogi cause it comes with sticky rice and accompanied with kimchi, potato etc. The Nasi Lemak, Mee Goreng and the Asean steaks is also a must try dishes, all dishes were delectable. I’m so going to come back and try more dishes here!

So far so good!
Bangalore has been very nice with us, lovely people, ultimate food.
We chose to dine at ASEAN pan Asian restaurant at MG road, hardly 10mins from our hotel.
Wonderful use to a rooftop which is 13th floor (nothing scary 😋) of the building.
The owners have 3 different restaurants/pub on the terrace with lovely view of city from all sides. No parking troubles, comfortable sitting & lovely weather.
We ordered few drinks along with Thai crispy vegetable & Udon soupy noodles (good to keep it light sometimes 🙈)
Portion sizes were really good for 2 of us. Taste was as good as it appealed. We had a gala time that evening. Hope to visit someday again 🥰

Excellent food, ambience and views. Personalised service and great cocktails as well. Have been there a number of times and have rarely been disappointed. Have tried most of their dishes and they have, almost without exception, been delicious. The restaurant tags a mandatory service charge and makes this clear upfront - while I respect the concept, this should be
left to the discretion of the diner rather than on a no option basis. Any internal tipping pool for the staff can be made by the management as a carve-out from the prices charged. Other than this one aberration, no complaints. A good restaurant and recommended for foodies.

The restaurant‘s location and ambience does not need describing. It boasts a well know view of the city‘s skyline that few other places have.
But it is not the view that commands the patronage of Bengaluru‘s fussy eaters. The food was delicious and I hesitate to ruin it with my inarticulate description. The service as flawless as can be expected. But all this at a very reasonable price? It was a bit too much to handle.
We don’t hesitate to give this well managed restaurant a full 5 star rating.

Returned to this place after a 4 year hiatus simply because Bangalore's food scene is constantly growing and evolving.

Took my wife for a romantic dinner date to celebrate our first anniversary.
For young couples, I strongly recommend choosing / booking the high seating that looks out over the edge as the view is spectacular. A good vantage point to see how Bangalore City is so spread out.

I recommend this place for foreigners too, only because of the view and to enjoy a light meal (give your tummy's a break from our rich Indian cuisine).

With regards to the food, we went with the recommendations given by the Zomato users recent reviews.

For appetizers we selected:
Vietnamese summer rolls - prawns :
were light, fresh with an insanely flavourful dressing that just made every bite pop. Our only gripe was that we felt there was not enough prawn.

7 hr slow cooked Super Crunchy Pork bites :
Beautifully cooked, tender pork morsels with relatively crunchy ? crust (not really crackling). Once again the sauce was sticky, sweet barbecue-like with Asian flavours. This dish was accompanied by a delicate, lightly dressed salad that serves as a great accompaniment given the richness of the pork.

For mains we selected:
Hangover Udon noodles with minced beef.
Lovely curry noodle (not very liquidy, which was nice). The kick of chili you get after you take a bite truly appeals to the Indian palate.

For desert:
Chocolate fondant with Caramel ice cream

A fantastic end to our meal. The best part was neither element of the desert was overtly sweet. Was a great ending to our dinner, and left us satisfied.

Good portions.

Service was very good and the staff very attentive.
Mind you, being a Tuesday, it was a lean night.

The only downer was the fact while making the reservation on Zomato, I explicitly mentioned that it was our anniversary, there was no effort made by the restaurant to make it seem special. Poor show.

For this reason I am docking them 1 🌟

Went to this place with my husband today on my birthday after we saw the rating and reviews in Zomato. We have had a high expectation from the place and thankfully it exceeds our expectation. The ambiance was nice and staff were very well mannered. We have ordered Hawaii Hi Oh and Florida and both the mocktails were really good. In starters, we have ordered Akasaka Prawn and Waterfall Beef and again both were delicious. Next we have asked for Burmese Prawn Khaoswe and Chocolate Menage as main and dessert respectively and these two as well tasted perfect. Each and every dish had a unique good taste which I haven't tasted anywhere else. It made my birthday even more memorable. Keep your level up Asean - On The Edge. Thank you and we will surely visit again to explore other dishes you serve.

Say hello to my new favorite romantic Rooftop in town. Before I say anything, if you are looking for a candle light dinner coupled with some great food, head here with no second thoughts. On the edge has done a pretty amazing job after their rebranding, infact adding the term 'Asean' will probably do wonders for them. People will surely know this is somewhat related to the Pan Asian belt which wasn't the case before this. I infact would always think they served continental. Let me first talk about the ambiance, even though I couldn't see the interiors much because it was a late evening when I visited this place, I could tell you the seating and infrastructure seems pretty nice suiting the cuisine. The view of Bangalore lit at night from this restaurant is just amazing, probably you would go Gaga over it like I did. Next the overall management, the staff were really courteous and infact the service was quick as well which isn't the case in most high end fine dines. The host was really helpful in helping me choose the best and made sure our experience was at it's best. Let's get on to the most important aspect, the food and overall experience.

🔶 Highlights of the place 🔶

▪️ Beautiful View of Bengaluru.
▪️ Amazing F&B
▪️Candle lit dinners.
▪️Lip smacking Desserts.
▪️Courteous staff &Quick service.
▪️Wide spread menu.
▪️Good value for money.

🔶What I loved n would recommend?

🔸Banana Blossom Salad: If only Salads tasted this good everywhere, I probably wouldn't be overweight today.
🔸Tofu Mushroom Broccoli Satay: Perfect Satay cooked in Oriental style. A must order when u are here.
🔸Thai Crispy Vegetables: On the sweeter side of dishes, but love the after taste it leaves in your mouth.
🔸Salt and Pepper Lotus root: Probably the best Lotus root I've had in town. Perfectly made n spiced.
🔸Malacca Curry with Roti Jala: Something very new I had and fell in love with it instantly. They called it a Muslims dish from one of the Pan Asian countries, it was totally worth it.
🔸Chaing Mai Risotto: The actual Risotto with a twist. And to be honest, the twist did wonders. Can literally hog onto this all day.
🔸 Chocolate Moksha and Japanese Cheesecake: Two desserts which blew my mind. Extremely delicious.
🔸Hanoi Pick me up: Spiced Vietnamese preseed Coffee over Ice. A must order Mocktail when you are here.

🔶What would I ask them to improve?

Nothing actually. A small suggestion would be to reduce the level of sweetness In your dishes.

🔶 Other things I had with no complaints/compliments:

🔹 Starters: Wasabi Mushrooms
🔹Main course: Nasi Goreng, Burmese Khaoswe
🔹Desserts: Gula melaka Creme Caramel, Tiramisu Crepe Cake.
🔹 Drinks: Rosemary G&T.

Overall an excellent experience. I would surely go back here to try all their other dishes. This place deserves a complete 5/5 for the amount of perfection they have potrayed in each section. I would surely recommend this place to anyone looking for some amazing Asian food with a view and of course people looking for candle lit dinners.

ASEAN - On the Edge is a premium restaurant which features some of the best Pan Asisan Delicacies and Delectables from the Asean Countries. Located on the 13th Floor on the Barton Centre ,On the Edge is a part of the 13th floor restaurant group along with Ebony.

The place has one of the best outlooks of the city, from that height you can see half the city around you, it's basically an on the edge terrace with natural breeze. The ambience is simple and nice, pretty good for a very romantic dine out. The only concern here is that, the place can house a maximum of 25-30 people, hence prior booking is a mandate.

Coming to the food ,tried Banana blossom Salad, which is a cold salad made out of banana flowers ,the flavours were pretty good. The mushroom tofu satay was one of the best tofu eats I have ever had, it had a subtle coconut taste to it. Thai crispy vegetables and salt and pepper lotus stems are recommendables to.

Chaing Mai Rissoto is a must try here, it was prepared better than most of the Italian outlets in the city, had a strong taste of lemon grass in it, too good. Burmese Khao Suey, the first place to bring to town. Noodles served with Thai soup, nuts , vegetables fried onions, tasted pretty good.

Coming to the dessert, Tiramisu Crepe cake, stands up to it's name with several layers of super thin cake with one top another with a strong coffee flavour, Japanese cheese cake was good to.

I still call it 'On the Edge' like an old Bangalorean. Really classy place with some great food. Might seem a bit pricey though. Thai dishes here are my most favorite.

After a decade of serving some of the finest South East Asian and Mediterranean food in town, On The Edge - located on the 13th floor of Barton Centre, MG Road, have now rebranded themselves as ASEAN - On The Edge.

That's quite a fitting name indeed, as they are back with a brand new menu with some amazing hand picked delicacies from countries across the South East Asian region.

Their ambience is top notch, with a beautiful bird's eye view of Bangalore, and their delightful candle lit tables! Looking for a candle light dinner with your love? 💕 Now you know where to head to! 😉

🔰 Standout Features of ASEAN:

▪️Romantic ambience
▪️Drool worthy Asian food
▪️Unique and original menu
▪️Candle light dinners

❇️ The Kaapi Connoisseur Experience ❇️

I went here on a Friday night, and was impressed with their food, ambience and service. Asian food is not one of my most favorites, but I absolutely enjoyed my meal here. My picks below:

🔺Banana Blossom Salad :
A street favorite from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, this was tangy, crunchy and packed with some amazing flavors. Never knew that a banana flower could taste this good!

🔺Tofu Mushroom Broccoli Satay:
Skewers of tender tofu, mushroom and broccoli with a satay sauce! This was perfect with the cocktails!

🔺Salt and Pepper Lotus Root :
Lotus root is one of my favorites, and their version certainly lived up to my expectations. Crunchy, crispy and rendering a hint of umami flavor, this was delicious!

🔺Nonya Soft Shell Crab :
While I'm a vegetarian, my friends couldn't stop raving about the mouth watering taste of this speciality from Singapore, prepared with an in house secret recipe. Don't miss this dish here!

🔺Thai Crispy Vegetables:
This had a strong taste, with the sweetness of honey, and the tang from soy, blending beautifully with the other ingredients. Crispy and tasty! We ended up ordering one more.

🔺 Roti-Jala with Malacca Curry:
Roti-Jala is a netted crepe very popular during Ramadan in Malaysia, and is one of my favorites here. The flavours of coconut, chilli and lemongrass in the Malacca Curry pair up really well with the Roti-Jala! Must try here!

🔺Chiang Mai Risotto:
What could sound more interesting than an Asian style Risotto? Made with a whole lot of Thai flavors, and Gobindobhog sticky rice. Loved this one!

🔺Burmese Khao Swe:
If you love Khao Suey, then you'll love their version. Full marks to the presentation as well!

For Desserts we tried the Gula Melaka Creme Caramel, Japanese Cheesecake, Tiramisu Crepe Cake, and Chocolate Moksha. Most of these were quite good.

The cocktails we tried were Pencillin, Milanese Mai Tai, Sangria, 13th floor Wicked Long Island Iced Tea.

What would I ask them to improve - the seats could be more plush, and maybe the plating of the food with some ornate crockery could take it to the next level.

To summarize, if you're looking for a place with beautiful ambience, great Asian food, hospitable service, look no further.

Food is all about the experience and the bliss you find in what you eat. Every place, every dish, every cuisine, every cooking style has it's own uniqueness which one had to explore.

Banana Blossom Salad

The soul salad of every Asian meal. A simple & healthy one made of Banana Flower, Herbs, Spinach Leaves, Onions, Chilli and Lime. Most of us don't like to eat banana flower in any form but I bet this one is surely addictive. Loved the flavour.

Tofu, mushroom & broccoli Satay

Seasoned & Skewered Tofu along with mushroom & broccoli served with the satay sauce. This is very popular in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore & Thailand. Another majority winning soulful dish.

Nonya crunchy soft shell crab

Omg ! How do I even express how super scrumptious this was ! Probably one of the bestest discovery of the culinary journey. The best part is they are so soft that you need not worry about the shells, you can just chew it away very easily. And they have a secret ingredient in it which makes it more special ! Well ! Know about it when you visit the place. *wink*.Hats off to the restaurant owner who found this awesomeness and bought it all the way from Singapore for us to Delish !

Akasaka prawns

Prawns battered & fried to light crispiness and coated with honey Chilli sauce.Served in a classy cocktail glass. Prawns cooked to perfection with the flavours of the sauce indulging into it is a perfect bliss.

Malacca curry with roti jala

Malacca is a place in Malaysia where a mixture of cultures exist. Roti jala is a very popular dish during Ramzan. These crispy lacy crepes go very well with the Malacca curry made of light coconut.Very interesting dish with the hidden love from different cultures.

Chiang Mai Risotto

The Marriage of Flavours from the classic Risotto & the Thai/Vietnamese herbs and spices done right. A perfect match made in heaven. Like Literally !

Khaosuey

Always a secret fan of Burmese food & this one is pure love. Made of  noodles and coconut milk, served with a variety of condiments like the green chilli, golden fried onions, cilantro, shallots, fried garlic lemon. The tanginess of the lemon, sweetness of the caramelized Onion, the spiciness of the chilli ,Ahhhhhh !! That's one of its kind ! *Drools*

Gai sarong

Finely minced chicken spiced with garlic & wrapped with vermicelli & fried. Looks like meat balls with a yummy sauce over it making it more luscious.

This was just a gist ! Their menu is gonna take you on a wonderful journey which is gonna stay in your heart forever !
From Tom yum to Baos to satays to Pho to Nasi Goreng to Khaoswe ! This Asia Trippin is never ending !

Nasi Lemak, Burmese Khow Suey With A View. That's ASEAN - On The Edge For You 💁🏻‍♀️

It is a fine dining place for people who are very specific about the superior quality of food and service. The new menu brings out the best flavours of ASEAN countries. From Nasi Lemak & Jala Roti from Malaysia to Laksa Curry from Singapore to Nasi Goreng from Indonesia - all this coupled with their area of excellence, Thai cuisine, makes ASEAN-On The Edge for South Asian and Thai Food in Bangalore.

The restaurant gives its diners a stunning, panoramic view of Bangalore from its 13th floor location. At night, along with the soft glow of the lights and relaxing music you can sit on a high table and look at the twinkling lights of Bangalore and enjoy some great food. Perfect for a date night we think.

Every dish in their menu is of finest taste and is served to diners after a 24*7 fine work that Chefs put in. The menu here is a mix of culinary classics, street food inspired dishes, re-creations of home favourites inspired by Thai, Malay, Burmese, Laotian, Cambodian and Vietnamese dishes. The kitchen team deftly handles the subtle intricacies of these cuisine styles by placing their faith on the highest quality, fresh sun-kissed ingredient and simple cooking techniques. The new menu is incorporated from the experience the Chef had while traveling across these South East Asian countries. He surely bought back the best of the flavours and served it us on our plate. And trust me I am not exaggerating.

💁🏻‍♀️TummyTumms Favourite:

• ASEAN Spare Ribs
• Nonya Crunchy Soft Shell Crab
• Nasi Lemak
• Malacca Curry with Roti Jala
• Banana Blossom Salad

And if you are super stuffed with all the starters & main course, trust me one glance at the dessert menu and I guarantee you’ll magically have space in your stomach. Lemon Meringue Tart made with Thai Kaffir Lime and and Moksha, a baked chocolate fondant are our picks.

Plus did I tell you, there is an entire section of healthier options in the menu. Pomelo Salad, Yam Talay – a seafood salad and Yum Moon Sen – a glass noodle
salad to add to the existing popular salads – the classic green papaya and mango - Som Tam and the Laarb – minced Chicken/Lamb or Mushroom with various herbs. Appetizers like the San Chow Bow - crisp lettuce cups stuffed with a choice of fillings and toppings and the Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls, a wide range of Asian grills and healthy soups such as the Vietnamese Pho and Mr. Moringa and Friends are all well worth a try!

On the edge as it was previously called, is now called ASEAN - On the edge with an all new menu. The restaurant is on the 13th floor in Barton centre and is one of the most beautiful candlelit restaurants in the city.
What I love about the food here is that it’s not mainstream pan Asian with Chinese and Japanese taking the spotlight away from less known but delicious delicacies from other south east Asian countries.
For some of the dishes I literally got up from my chair and did a little dance. I love what ASEAN has done with their menu and I am definitely going to become a regular here.
The dishes that won my heart were:
*The banana blossom salad which was crunchy yet soft. I couldn’t believe that banana flower could actually taste like that!! The hint of rice wine and the garlic was brilliant.
*The nonya butter crunchy soft shell crab - ok I am mildly allergic to crab but a bite here and there doesn’t hurt. So when our host recommended it I was tempted to take a bite. This dish is just so easy to eat without all the struggle and mess that comes with eating crab and it’s simply delicious. I couldn’t stop myself from eating it and they also make this dish with prawns or calamari.
*The chiang mai risotto was something I managed to polish off my plate even though I was feeling quite full with the appetisers and entrees. It was the most delicate balance of flavours with wonderful hints of lemongrass, coriander, coconut and lime. The texture was so creamy it’s definitely one of the best Risottos I’ve ever tasted.
*Malacca curry with roti jala - first off I like how pretty the roti jala looks and how delicate it’s texture is. The malacca curry was simply the best compliment to the crisp but delicate roti jala crepe’s.
*I loved the cocktails we had. You must try their penicillin and sangria.
Some of my other recommendations would be the Burmese khaoswe, nasi goreng, and the tofu mushroom & broccoli satay.
*
Please specify if to your host if you would like sharper flavours. The staff were very warm and friendly. Service is prompt and I had no complaints whatsoever.
I can’t wait to take my folks here as they love pan Asian cuisine and seafood.

Great Food and Company are the two life’s Simplest yet great pleasures !

Couldn’t agree more .

Very rarely does a restaurant keeps us going wow dish after dish .

Asean – On the Edge is the revamped version of the Popular on the Edge Louge bar on 13th floor , Barton Centre .
After serving Mediterranean & popular pan Asian for many years . what they have done with the menu now is so exciting as the focus is to bring out the best flavours of the Asean countries .

Intended Rating : More than 5 !

Everything we tried was really good and the Menu is designed so well its irresistible . Specially Appetisers were Top notch here .

🔸Must try :
🔹🔹Nonya Butter Soft shell Crabs
🔹🔹Nam Jai Prawns
🔹🔹Vietnemese Pomello Salad
🔹🔹Malacca Curry with Roti jala
🔹🔹 Tub Tim Krob

🔸Détailed Review :

🔸Ambience : Best bit is the Alfresco seating with the expansive view of MG road and CBD area. Perfect for the evenings .
Décor wise it has not changed from how it was .
The low level Lounge seats could be slightly more comfortable given the ambience and food so good that people are bound to spend more time at the table .

🔸Food :
Kudos to Chef & the Owner who have incorporated dishes from across the south east asean countries and they are not run of the mill at all.
The Menu card by design with pictures itself got us drooling and wanting to try It all .

Some of the very interesting , rarely seen dishes include Malacca curry with Roti Jala, Nonya Butter soft shell crabs , fusion dishes like Risotto with Asian flavours and Asean steak .
Salads and soups popular from the Asian countries .

🔹Drinks : Porn star Martini , Rosemery G & T

Both drinks were great But since I prefer gin I enjoyed the G & T more also because the sweet and sourness was well balanced.
Porn star martini great option if you love your cocktails sweet , it also came with a side of sparkling wine . Giving it luxurious feel

🔹Appetisers : Salad : Vietnamese Pomello Salad , Banana Blossom Salad

We mostly ignore Salads and soups at an Asian place as its usually a very predictable line up but here we did sit up and take notice .
Couldn’t help but order two salads and our tongues did a happy dance before we even went to the starters .
🔸Vietnamese pomella salad was exceptional , very well balanced .
🔸Banana Blosson salad was crispy & tangy - quite a unique salad

🔹Starters : Nonya Butter Soft shell Crabs , Nam Jai Prawns , Crispy Pork Bites , San chow Bow( Lettuce cups)

🔸Nonya Butter Soft Shell Crabs is the star there.
Love crabs but very often I don’t order crabs as it can get a bit messy to eat .
But Asean has A Singapore special Soft shell crab starter which is to die for . A must try .

🔸Nam Jai Prawns – It couldn’t have been made better . So delicious with a good balance of spice and tanginess. And I must tell you the prawns were so fresh & large sized . Very rarely this is taken care .
Added a lot to the taste of the dish

🔸Crispy Pork Bites – Another stunner. Crispy melt in the mouth pork bites in a mild sweet & salty sauce .

🔸San chow bow – Cute little lettuce cups with fillings and a side of pickled veggies and fried peanuts for crunch . Fresh & crunchy perfect in between your meal kind of order

🔹Mains :Malacca Curry with jala roti , Penang Nasi lemak
First time I wished I had a really big appetite . A nice range of main course options . We couldn’t explore much but going back soon .

🔸We tried Malacca Curry with Roti Jala .
A street favourite from Malaysia , its Insta worthy and delicious as well .
The prawn curry was well made – a version of the well known thai green curry .
The Roti jala – Netted / Lacy crepe is crispy and slightly sweet .
A good one , haven’t tried it anywhere else in Bangalore

🔸Penang Nasi lemak – we chose it with chicken rendang curry .
Flavoured Rice , Thick Curry of your choice , Eggs , Salad and peanuts for crunch .
A complete meal . Delicious and very filling.
Very Popular from the beautiful coastal town of Penang .
I could eat it every day and not get bored .

🔹Desserts :
Do not forget to ask the Desserts menu and don’t you forget to order the Bangkok Refresher - Tub Tim Krob.
Simple yet a drool worthy dessert .

We also tried the Gula Melaka crème caramel
Chef's Asian twist to the caramel pudding .

🔹Overall :
One of the best food experiences in recent times .
If you love Asian flavours , best place to explore is Asean, it will surely keep you on the edge and make you coming back for more !

We have visited many Asian places over the years, but have seldom been as blown away as we were by the food here. We could barely complain about one dish, grasping at straws for even the slightest slip up. All the dishes have been curated and replicated from actual sites and festivals from the countries in Asia, over multiple visits by the owner and management. This allowed the food to imbibe authenticity and perfection, traits that only emerge from extensive trial and error. This Asian cuisine blew away our minds, without even venturing into known staples like Chinese or Japanese dishes, thus mindful of its smart name, ASEAN.

Beverages

Highlights: Midnight Oil, Sangria, Penicillin, Rosemary G&T, Barbosa and Citrus Caprioska

Other Ordered Items: Lemon Tart-ini

The Midnight Oil is a Coffee based Cocktail we absolutely loved. Its topped with a roasted Marshmallow which perfectly complements the bitterness of the drink perfectly. The Sangria had a variety of fresh fruits which was very refreshing to the palette. The Penicillin is a Scotch based Cocktail which is infused with Burnt Ginger, Lemon and Honey which has just the right amount of sweetness. There are few things that can beat the classic G&T and the Rosemary G&T at this place is one of them. The hint of Passionfruit and subtle sweetness of the Rosemary Sugar made it one of the best drinks of the evening.

If you’re into Rum and are looking to try something on the fruitier side then you would probably want to order the Barbosa. The most refreshing drink of the evening was the Vodka based Citrus Caprioska which we absolutely loved. The Lemon Tart-ini was something we felt was more of a personal preference as we aren’t really into having dairy in our cocktails which is why this one didn’t appeal to us too much.

Appetisers

Highlights: Banana Blossom Salad, Hot and Crunchy Braised Tofu, Akasa Prawn, and the ASEAN Signature Spare Ribs

Other Ordered Items: Wasabi Mushrooms, Nonya Butter Crunchy Soft Shelled Crab

The Salad was wonderful with the interesting textures provided by the shredded Banana Flowers along with the Crispy Garlic and Shallots. This was certainly a great way to start our meal. In the Braised Tofu dish, the perfectly cooked cubes were tossed with a Sweet and Spicy Sauce which went great when paired with Peanut Sauce they provided on the side. The only disappointment for us was the Wasabi Mushroom which had flavours which were too strong and overpowered the entire dish. The Wasabi needed to be much more subtle than it was which is probably what they intended but missed out on this particular occasion. The Akasa Prawn couldn’t have possibly been better, with the sweet and tangy sauce completing the texture of the prawn, making it a task to keep our hands off the dish. The ASEAN Signature Spare Ribs were slightly dry near the bone, but the sesame sauce and meat made the Asian experience worth the while. The Nonya Butter Crunchy Soft Shelled Crab were crumby and soft, with the tender meat falling off at touch, but missed the flavour mark that we had come to expect of this restaurant.

Mains

Highlights: The Chiang Mai Risotto, Malacca Curry with Roti Jala, Burmese Khaoswe  and the Penang Nasi Lemak

The Risotto was something we were hesitant about considering we prefer our Risotto in its most classical representation. However, we were pleasantly surprised to taste a perfectly cooked Risotto with some complex Asian flavours hinting lemon grass, jasmine and the starchy texture was averse from the mush the dish can sometimes turn into, which honestly blew us away. We cleaned our plates for this one. The Roti Jala was quite interesting for us as we had never had anything quite like it. The Lacy Crepe like Roti was crispy and the netted texture was an experience in itself. It went well with the intense flavours of the Coconut based Malacca Curry. We absolutely loved this one as well.

Moving on to their signature dish, the Khaoswe (Khao Suey), we had high expectations from this one. Its safe to say that it certainly delivered. With a healthy portion of noodles and Curry, and the level of customisation with peanuts, caramelised onions, cilantro and so forth, it was something we would want to describe as “Comfort Food at its Finest”. The Penang Nasi Lemak had flavours reminiscent of south Indian cuisines, but the overtly Vietnamese dish was wholesome and gritty, with peanuts to contrast the soft and flavourful rice. The dish also had a mind blowing chicken, with a subtle tang and spice. The presentation of the dish was also mindful of the dishes origin bring a staple of Vietnamese workers’.

Dessert

Highlights: Japanese Cheesecake and the Moksha

The Japanese Cheesecake had its signature jiggle which you would expect from it. It didn’t have too much sweetness which was why it worked so well for us. Apart from the perfect texture and balance, it was served with a sweet glaze type sauce om the side which added a new dimension to the dessert. The final dessert was their Mokha which was a Chocolate Fondant served with some Salted Caramel Ice Cream. Serving these two separately would make great desserts but together, it gives you an almost unbeatable combination for utter indulgence.

Overall Verdict

Its honestly been so long since we enjoyed a meal this much. Almost every single dish was made with absolute perfection and we had no complaints on any of them. They do not skimp on the Alcohol as every single Cocktail was very boozy however was able to maintain a balance with the other flavours present in the drink. This place would make for a perfect date location however, with that being said the food is so good and authentic that we would recommend pretty much anybody to try this place out as you would not leave feeling disappointed.

Doesn't matter how many times I come here - I always find something I love more each time.

The Malacca curry with Roti Jala is my favourite, but the Khao Suey and the Phad Thai never fail to impress either.

Swap the alcohol during your meal for a Caliph's Cooler instead and make sure you end enlightened by a Moksha.

Visited this place on 13th floor, Barton center for dinner. All the tables are outdoor sitting. Very nice ambience and really polite staff. We ordered skewers & bow for starters. They were really good. Also the nukkad mocktail was really tasty, specially the black salt n guava combination. For mains we ordered the burmese khowsaue, jala roti n curry & some hakka noodles. All the mains were just fantastic. The asean taste was preserved and portions were really good. Service is super & we just loved the food. Definitely going back to try some more dishes

On the Edge, 13th Floor and Ebony are three renowned restaurants in Barton Centre, Bengaluru. All three have an excellent view and you have the option to order from all three restaurants from any one of them. I have been to two of them and the only difference lies in the ambiance and theme of the restaurant.

As for On the Edge, the ambiance is directed more towards fine dining and provides a romantic candlelit theme. In terms of food, it surpassed every expectation I had in terms of taste and quality. I can easily say that the food here has been one the best food I have ever tasted in my life. The food is oriented around Thai cuisine and it is as authentic as it gets. I would recommend the Beef Pho, Chicken Nasi Goreng and my personal favourite Thai Green Curry (Chicken). The service is courteous and efficient with the manager personally overlooking the status of all tables.

All in all, if you love Asian cuisine and aren't on a budget, this is the place for you.

Starting with the staff, the person taking the orders, ig the manager, some elderly person he is, I highly appreciate the customer service and hospitality he provided that day, it was my birthday and I wanted a dish to be little customised which is different from the one listed in menu, he made sure to provide best service. Food was just amazing. I had the best tres leches , arcot lambs, kebab platter, and qubani, daal makhni, jeera rice here. Food takes a little longer to be prepared. But the view you get, from the 13th floor will keep you busy. Light music, dim lights, makes it all perfect for a dinner date, birthday, family time and reunion with friends. Will visit again, real soon :)

Excellent staff and prompt service. Outstanding variety of food on offer. Plenty of vegetarian dishes to choose from. The daal makhani and garlic naan was delicious.

An old favourite that I've visited many times in the past. Excellent food, and the only place in Bangalore that knows how to make Khowsuey properly. Pork Charsiu was perfect, with it not too sweet as everywhere else does. Dan Dan noodles were tasty, but a bit too dry for my liking. Ambience is the best in town Service has room for improvement. Had to ask for water and cutlery multiple times. Food took too long to come out. I noticed people who ordered after us getting their food before us. Hope my next visit sees improved service.

The ambience was very good here, love the rooftop. Seatings are less but it's good enough. The food which I had personally didn't like much since it was Japanese cuisine. People who like to try new dishes especially the Asian cuisines would definitely like it.

Amazing Asian food. A bit on a pricier side, but fresh and delicious food. They have a lot of great options too. The only downside was that we had gone there to have Ramen, but it was discontinued. So we settled for a Khao Suey which was delectable.

The rooftop ambience is very beautiful and gives a good view. Since it is tightly packed, reservation might be needed on the weekends. Food is good. We liked the starters very much. They were delicious. Some of the main course dishes were better than others. Service is very good as well. Its a great place to have a nice lunch or dinner and can be easily located.

This place is located on the thirteenth floor, along with two other famous restaurants. While the ambience is great and ths staff behavior very friendly and professional, food was disappointing. We ordered primarily Thai and Vietnamese cuisine here and neither were upto anywhere near authentic. Even the cocktail we ordered turned out not so great. They do take good care of the customers and make sure to create a cozy and romantic atmosphere. However, food was a big letdown

I was extremely impressed with the organisation & service provided by the manager, Rakesh and his team for the get together I had for 35 people last evening. The atmosphere was super. The snacks were so good & were served with attention and care . Each dish for the dinner was flavoursome & delicious! All in all , a wonderful experience for me & all my guests! Thank you all at ASEAN !
