Review Hae Kum Gang - Bengaluru

Akshatha
We visited this place during lunch hours. Place becomes very crowded during peak hours. Very neatly maintained place with lively ambience. I liked every dish I tried but felt like chicken in main dish is not so fresh. They give you Banchan in the beginning and I liked potatoes in sweet soy sauce. Every dish has generous portion so you have to keep this in mind before ordering. Rice here has a very good addictive taste and goes well with all the main dishes. Chicken Cutlet, Shrimp fritters and dragon shrimp roll are must try. I felt Mocktails were too sweet and the syrup they use overpowers the drink. Staff here are very friendly and helpful. They accept card and UPI payment methods. I recommend this place to people who want to try korean cuisine.

Hae Kum Gang in Ashok Nagar is a quaint, cozy little place, perfect for a quick Korean sojourn. Both the ambience as well as the menu have an old Korean charm. It sits pretty in aesthetics, service and quality of food. Since we’ve frequented this place many times, the dishes that we can absolutely vouch for on any given day are - Bbq in stone hot pot - with chicken, beef or pork, all taste great Dolshot bibimbap with beef or chicken Chicken and Tuna Kimbap
Chicken Cutlet Shrimp fritters Dragon Shrimp roll are must try. Kimchi Fried Rice Chicken Salmon Roll An added feature is the delicious side dishes of Kimchi, Pickled Vegetables, Pickled Bean Sprouts, etc. that are complimentary, and the staff is also always very generous to refill it when asked. All in all, a recommended spot for your Korean cravings with a lot of repeat value.

Watched many Korean dramas and was always intrigued as to what Korean food was all about! Hae Kum Gang provides authentic flavours for enthusiasts like me! So if you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to taste Korean food check this place out! Other than all the food we ate here, a special mention to the mango drink which is definitely a must try!

It is a good place to hangout with your friends and family. It is a family friendly place. It has a very nice atmosphere. The music is nice and the food is okay. It has well maintained washrooms for gents and ladies separate. There is elevator. There isn't much parking space nearby do you have to leave your vehicle on the side of the road.

The food is good. I've been here a few times , but I personally feel it's on the higher side. The average price for a dish is Inr 600. The atmosphere is a bit outdated. The plants on the hanging pots are all dry and feel uncared for. The floor next to our table was dirty, and the ac was not working properly. Felt a bit stuffy and hot to sit. It's pretty expensive for what it offers in overall experience. We go here mainly for the food and a few dishes which we like and the only reason why we still consider it at times.

It was a little hard to get the attention of the waiters, but the food was very tasty. We had the dragon roll, which came with some side dishes such as kimchi, and bulgogi which came with rice and side soup.

We ordered all the chicken version of Kimchi fried rice, bibim bap, kim bap. The side dishes served with the Bibimbap were good in variety. I was disappointed with the kimchi though. The Kimchi fried rice was too cheesy for our taste. Personally my favorite was the Kim Bap. Their wine cocktails were also good, I tried the fruit red wine cocktail. Ambience is pretty decent with some Korean artifacts on display.

Food-wise? Yummmmayyy!!! At that moment, you could eat hundreds of the Kimbap. Chewy and savoury. Eat one, eat two, eat three, eat... The Soondubu is something you'd always order when you head out to any Korean restaurant. This stew was full of juicy mixtures, like squid, clam, mushroom, and egg. It's not so spicy that you can't handle it. The Samgyeopsal came in a literally sizzling plate. Grilled pork belly is a safe(and wise) choice. Wrapping the slices in lettuce, veggies, salty lard, and sauce, makes you and your belly happy. The menu could've had more dishes. Price-wise? Reasonable enough. Keeping in mind the unique cuisine and taste, the prices are justified. Ambience- and -interior-wise? The place wasn't as packed as expected. That's a plus point for those who like quiet places. Quiet and privacy-positive, good place to eat at. The interior may not be to everyone's taste, but it's quirkiness, especially the antique-looking chairs, give out a feel-good vibe. Pictures of Korean food are hung up on the walls for you to drool over as you wait for your own food. The only thing for Hae Kum Gang to work on is the staff. Barely had eye-contact while bringing in the menus or the food. Upon calling one of them to place orders, two of them nudged each other(you go, no, you go, no, no, you) to come to the table. Bottom line? Recommended place for delicious food and antique/weird-looking chairs.

This has to be the best Korean restaurant I have ever been to in Bangalore. Lovely decor & K-pop music, authentic & mind-blowing Korean food, superb staff. I could just go on & on about this restaurant. A lot of native Koreans were here who had come to dine & this truly tells a lot about this restaurant. A must visit for anyone who loves Asian food. The quantities are generous & priced decently. We were three of us & spent around Rs. 850/- each per person & we had all the below mentioned dishes. Side dishes of Kimchi, Pickled Vegetables, Pickled Bean Sprouts, etc. that are complimentary & were re-filled twice. Yum! Bulgogi Roll (Pork) Hamul Pajeon, which is a Korean Pancake with Seafood & Scallions. This made me want more of it. It was that good! Dolsot Bibimbap with Pork Hamul Chulpan, which is a stir-fried seafood pan sizzler with Korean spicy sauce. Contrary to the myth that all Korean food is super spicy, it isn't & the spice level is balanced with the smoky & sweet flavours. So I personally do not find Korean food super spicy & it just has the right amount of spice that it does not make you want to grab a glass of Water immediately. I would definitely visit this place again & would love to try their other dishes.

My view of Korean food has traditionally been based on what I have been served in the food courts of Singapore & Malaysia, which was essentially a meat sizzler with some kimchi & enormous amount seaweed. Over a period of time, my knowledge on Korean food expanded, however my palate didn't. Was just exploring if Bangalore has an option of an authentic Korean cuisine, {Fat Piggy} came to rescue. Having suggested this hidden gem, (where I had my first and best Korean bibimbap so far) Fat Piggy has been very resourceful in suggesting other great places around Bangalore. One fine day, me & my foodie friend out of the blue pinned Hae Kum Gang for lunch & headed there. After getting comfortably seated, we browsed through the extensive menu, which is a mix of Korean (primarily), & Japanese. After arguing about our food choices, about me preferring a California Roll over Sushi, What mains to order, so as to sample the best of what a restaurant has to offer, and most of the time, my choices win (also because my choices are wise). For starters, we opted to take a Dragon Shrimp Roll. While we waited for our rolls to arrive, we were served small plates of kimchi, pickled cucumbers, braised sprouts, boiled potatoes dipped in soy glacé. I believe these were supposedly similar to the small plates of what is served in Spanish tapas, without much research we started enjoying these. The kimchi is something worth a mention, very different from what you get in Chinese places. The potatoes with soy glacé was equally good, with a mild but distinct flavour. The dragon roll, thankfully arrived before our small plates became empty plates. The roll was essentially shrimp fritters rolled over avocado, flakes, teriyaki sauce & Sushi rice, with scattered flying fish roe (eggs). Initially I was a little skeptical about the fish roe, hence asked to be served separately. The roll was beautifully presented in a dragon shape, with fresh shrimp flavour and nice crispness not just because of the fritters & crisps, but also because of the fiery bright orange roe that I believe was deep fried. For mains we ordered a Cutlet Donburi, and the famous Korean Bibimbap, both in versions of Chicken The Chicken Donburi was nice and crispy with the light batter coated succulent chicken. The super star, however was the Korean Bibimbap, served in an authentic earthen pot. It was bursting with flavours, with each part that made the Bibimbap true to its flavours, working well both independently as well as when consumed together. The Chicken as such had a smoky earthen flavour that hit the palate, and the same Chicken along with the rice produced a different yet unique impact on the palate. Overall a great set of mains, with the only complain being, we left unsatisfied as the food triggered our hunger to have even more, and one might also attribute that to smaller portion sizes. With a tiny bit is greedy space left in our tummies, we looked at each other and sheepishly succumbed to our greed to have more, and orders Shrimp Fritters. The fritters were too good, fresh shrinks, crispy fried in light batter & served with the head, which is also deep fried. We were too full, however we were promised during the beginning an offer for a free dessert, which we reminded. We were served three chunks of watermelon, drenched in a light mango syrup, which is more like a juice. But what this combination created in my palate was absolute magic. Never could I ever believe that two varied ingredients like watermelon & mango could produce such a profile in the palate. No words to explain this ecstatic end to what was a wonderful meal on a beautiful Bangalore afternoon at Hae Kum Gang. Hae Kum Gang is a place that must be experienced without fail, and I would love to visit them, yet again not just for their Bibimbap, but also to sample their interesting & super extensive menu. Final Verdict - Tiny little cosy place, excellent service, awesome Asian food, quirky ambience, good service, what more can a fan of south East Asian cuisine ask for
