Review Annapoorani - Truly South Indian - Bengaluru

Peter Paul
Very good option for South Indian meals and Dosa. This place which is centrally located on double road is a great lunch option because of its fast service and very good quality food. Ambience: (4/5) It place is essentially a functional space and doesn’t offer too much in terms of ambience. However, that being said, there are multiple seating options for various group sizes. This place does get full around 1pm so I strongly recommend coming in a little earlier. Food: (4/5) 1. Meals: this was actually very well made overall for a South Indian meals. The rasam was my personal favourite as it was very close to the rasam my grand mom used to make when I was small. I enjoyed it so much I got the staff to get me a cup of it. The rice and other ingredients are fresh and overall really enjoyed the meals. Summary: (4/5) Is it the best place for Tamil meals, no. But it is certainly a great option. The fresh food and good flavours coupled with the super friendly staff makes this an ideal lunch stop for anyone craving some Tamil or South Indian food.

From Eagle's eye - What makes this place different from others?🤔 It's MENU!!! You can find lot of varieties which you cannot find in any other restaurants mostly. They even serve morkali !!! (I still didn't taste it) They also have ragi roti, jowar roti, Adai (different varieties) in their menu. Weekend lunch - A BIG meal Best thing which I personally loved is their combo list. Ambiance - simple and neat with few paintings and classical music in the background. Service - so good🙂. Each and everyone are attentive. They never segregate saying this table I won't serve 😄. Tatse - very good. It's a place to go if you are looking for authentic south Indian taste especially Tamil Nadu style. Though they serve other state dishes too. As it is bit tucked in from the famous streets of Indiranagar, you could miss this place easily! I would recommend to visit this place at least once and try some different dishes instead of regular masala dosai and idly😉

I'm a big fan of Tamilian food, but there aren't many authentic Tamil restaurants here in Bangalore. So after a lot of searching, I came across Annapoorani and decided to head there. The staff is very friendly and courteous, the ambience is nice, you'll find a lot of regular customers coming in. The food was good, especially the rasam. They poured extra ghee over the rice which tasted amazing. Overall, it was a nice meal and a good experience.

Really good value for money place. The adai are brilliant. And also the avial. Lemon seva is pretty good. The actual kozhambu with the pongal is interesting and makes the pongal worth an order. No juices and drinks really but a nice Thanjavur tradition place really.

Fantastic place to have a authentic South Indian food. - Great variety of food. I liked the Roti plate where you get 4 types of roti. Jowar rotti, akki rotti, ragi rotti and a chapati. - Curd rice as a last dish. - The restaurant is walking distance ( 800 mtrs) from metro station. - There is a 2 wheeler parking at the basement. - This does not have 4 wheeler parking. - The restaurant has a decent interior and feel like you are sitting in a restaurant that's part of old bangalore. - The restaurant is pocket friendly from the Indiranagar point of view.

Tried South Indian thali for the first time and it was way better than what I expected. Rasam is a must-have dish. Also, don't hesitate to ask for extra papad. Another great thing I was impressed with is the service. Really great service. Also, they are very particular about the cleanliness. I haven't seen anyone wearing shower caps while serving food. Really liked this small gesture to maintain the quality of food.

Very good homely food at good price. Very clean south indian hotel. South sambar rasam and breakfast items are really tasty.... One must try it.
Shwetha Thammaiah
Fabulous south Indian food. Fresh, authentic and wholesome vegetarian food. Tried the ghee roast and their murungakai ela adai. Flavours were perfect. The service is wonderful too.

Authentic Karnataka Cuisine, Prompt Service, Value for money !
srividya nagaraj
Excellent pure vegetarian South Indian snacks and food. Very authentic in taste. Unique spread from olden times. Pocket - friendly. Sunday buffet on plantain leaf is a must have here. Quite crowded and waiting time is high on Sundays. Ambiance is not up to the mark. No parking space .
Murali Sundaram
Orthodox South Indian cuisine. Fairly good food with some almost forgotten dishes. Ambience could be improved. The service is good. Location on a main road makes parking a hassle. Does not have handicapped access or an elevator.

A special day I was there yesterday it's amazing... Food delicious.. I had rember my mom while eating some dishes the same flour and aroma... Adictated to the place...

I'd been there yesterday for their "special deluxe" lunch on the occasion of Ugadi. They had a set menu served on the table but I didn't find it as special as something that warranted a price of Rs 265/-. I had expected a couple of more items going by the price and at least more than the sole dessert item - "bele obbattu". The obbattu was awesome though! The food was fresh and tasty but but not warm. The service wasn't responsive and needed reminders from patrons who for extra servings of items. There was a steady stream of patrons throughout the afternoon (some even waited in a queue outside for their turn to be served) and the staff didn't seem to be prepared for the kind of crowd they were probably hoping for. They had even run out of obbattu by the time I requested for a second serving! The interiors and tables were clean and hygienic. The managers though could have worn a smile on their faces though. It was a festival day after all.
Usha Vinod
Terrible experience on Diwali when we packed your festival food for home...water in everything including sambhar and rasam. You did not spare even the payasam. Shame on you to claim quality. You have just lost one of your biggest fan.

Awesome place to eat Authentic South Indian Meals. So much variety and fast service. Loved it.

Boy! Was I GLAD that I agreed to tag along with my hubby for lunch to ANNAPOORANI! I had stopped visiting them after they shifted out from the Cambridge Layout premises. Later when they started off in 12th main Indranagar , I was not too impressed....but WOW....they have really IMPROVED....awesome! I was only too happy to eat their MURUNGA ELAI ADAI, AAPAMS and drink their EXCELLENT filter coffee, that too for lunch. My hubby had the traditional ELAI SAAPADU and ....yummy is the word for it too! I kept stealing food from his leaf! The spicy paruppu podi, the delicious sambar, soft chappatis, kootu and the super duper THOGAYAL....mind blowing! Can't wait to go there on Saturday for their DELUXE lunch meal....yessss! The food is simple yet yummy loved every dish

Horrible pongal meal - tasteless, flavorless and overpriced. Avoid at all costs. Have known Annapoorni to be much better earlier.
Khyati Bhatia Purohit
Simplicity at its best. Sathvik and mouth watering combo. Rice idli truely authentic taste. Just head here if you want to eat south indian.

This place is one stop for all kinds of South Indian tiffin. The dishes are very delicious and mouth watering. The food in this place is a reminder of my childhood days, since it has every other dish that my mother prepares :) also, their meals is something that you must not miss. It has amazing varieties of dishes and the carrot payasam, is something I can’t stop relishing. :)
Jignesh Jain
Probably the best place in indiranagar for vegetarian south Indian food
Swati
i love the taste of sambhar that was too spicy . and idlis were fluffy also devangree dosa was tasty
Saahithyan Radhakrishnan
Looking for an authentic Tamil Nadu style vegetarian food. This is the place to go. Couldn't find a better place for a south Indian veg meals around this area. Tiffin items are my favourite here. If you are expecting an ambience everytime you go out , you may not enjoy this place. Quality is guaranteed.

There is no minus star option! Food worst. Serving damn very impolite and late and worst. To be very clear I have never seen such worst food place in Bengaluru! limited chapati 2, Brinjal curry, no taste, some sort of sagu god knows what, chatni no salt or pepper. Sambar just the water with an inch of onion, rasam just edible. Aplam not at all crispy. Butter milk just the white water. one sweet , Badhusha, smelly, old stock. there was nothing else, oh yeah they had roasted peanut powder, just the powder, no salt or chilly or anything in it. I don't know how people appreciated in their reviews but a child at home can make better cooking and serving. I went today with family (weekday), highly and utterly disappointed. My god cooked rice wasn't with good rice, but it was cooked with broken rice believe it or not, totally waste of money. It seems they use old stock ingredients looking at he quality.
Shivakumar Mudigonda
It's a nice place to taste food. foods are delicious and tasty. I've been visited twice. I ordered dosa and appam. The coconut milk with appam was awesome taste. When you're eating that you will be heaven.

Ambiance: 3
Service: 4
Food: 1

First of all, sorry to the management for rating this low.
Now coming to the food. A Whooping 267+ taxes per head for a south Indian meals and for what??? Aalu ki sabji (not even a kid can make it taste a potato bad) and nobody (at least not me) expects treturn aalu for sabji, especially for the price we are paying. The next item was the Brinjal ka something (I don't like brinjal/eggplant, but that's ok, because I can't be lucky that they make my choice sabji.) The disappointing thing was the way it looked. I don't want to use those words that grosses out people. But you can imagine what I'm saying. Next items were Sambar and Rasam, which were below average. There are so many restaurants in indiranagar, that would make sambar so damn tasty that you would drink a few cups. Curd and Tayeer Kodumbu was good. Dal was okay (although very plain, but was okay)
My surprise is how is it running for 15 years(that's what the manager claims), for the taste that they offer, especially for that price.
Won't ever return to this place (unless of course the management says here they are going to improve on things) I highly doubt (because I have seen their attitude before)
Ashok Suppukutty
Very good place for a vegetarian south indian cuisine. You get all varieties of South Indian fare. In the evenings the restaurant closes at 10 so you need to go lil early so that you get all items on the menu otherwise it gets over. Must visit place.

A diet concious Tamilian who had skipped eating full fledged meals for 6 months..craved for a full course tamil sappada (Tamil Nadu style meals) and there I landed up in Annapoorni to fulfil my taste buds on a Sunday afternoon.

A simple place which just ensures tasty food ia served to you in a banana leaf and yes they have everything in their meals which a typical Tamilian will look for (Ghar ka Khana) and offcourse a lovely Carnatic music played in the background.

The Sambhar and Rasam tasted exactly how we make it at home and hence the fun of eating at this place was memorable..

A perfect afternoon nap is instored for you post you finish your meals:)

My Ratings:
Food : 4.5/5
Ambience: 3/5
Staff: 4/5
Nothing great about this place for dinner. Prices doesn't justify quality and taste. Ordered curd rice. They just mixed white rice and curd.
Sonal Pawa
Having ordered Idli and Asia multiple times always wanted to visit this place, but my first visit turned truly disappointing.
Terribly dry, thick and massive dosas. Tomato Uttapam barely had any tomatoes.

I expected so much better. :(

This is by far the pathetic resturant I have ever dined in. Do not go by the picture provided by the resturant, neither there is so many dishes nor they serve in Banana leaves like other Andhra/Chettinad Cusine. They charge 155/- for regular meal which consists a bowl of rice, Sambhar, Chappati, kurma, rasam, curd, sweet and papad, remember this is not full meals unlike various other resturant who provide at more or the less than the same cost, even a simple darshinis in bangalore provide better meals at 50% of what this resturant is charging, you do not have anything appealing to try and I would not consider this to be a Tamil Nadu cusine since the sambhar and rasam would taste better and there would be various items to offered at the price charged.
There is different smell all together when you enter inside, not stinking or good though.
Definitely not a place for people who are expecting tasty and authentic tamil cusine, there are many small Andhra style resturant in and around which can be considered since they charge nominal yet very tasty food.

Food: 2/5
Service: 3/5
Taste: 1/5

Ambenice: 3/5

We went there on a Saturday afternoon for Lunch. It was served on a banana leaf. The food was very simple, there was not even a single special item on the thali. The food was very basic with alloo sabji, papad, chutney, bonda, payasam, unlimited rice, ghee dal and other sambar/gravies. They charged 250/- which I found to be on the higher side for the very basic food being served on the thali.

If you are craving for authentic Tamil saapaad :) here, then Annapoorni is the place to be! Tucked away in a quaint corner. You have to climb some steps to enter it. Simple furniture, serving of food on banana leaf...so nostalgic! All the items - from puliogare, rasam, yaam vegetable, Mysore paak - were all tasty and simple, yet so fulfilling..and the food was real value for money!.the only aspects I believe needs improvement are staff being more friendly and painting of some of the walls!

Let me first review the food and then talk about something more serious. We ordered the “Regular Meal” as the special meals are available only on weekends. The meals were served on a round plate - Sambar, Rasam, Curds, Beetroot, curry for Chapathi, Chutney, Appalam and 2 chapathis. The food was decent and we got refills when we requested for beetroot and even appalams. The rice of-course was unlimited. The food I mention as “decent” because there was nothing extraordinary about it but a good palatable lunch.

Now coming to the serious problem with Annapoorani - service and staff behaviour. The staff literally steal from customers. My bill (we split the bills individually in our group) came to INR 162.75. I gave my card and he charged INR 163 (I couldn’t see the amount being charged when entering the PIN). As soon as I got the payment confirmation SMS in my phone I asked the staff on why he rounded off, and he “smiled” and asked me what should he be doing instead. That was the moment I started losing it. I told him that either he should have informed me before doing the rounding off OR the bill should have been rounded-off to 162/163 as they feel right. He sniggered and asked me what should he do. I said “give me back my 25 paise”. He sniggered again and said “Ok come to the billing counter I will give you INR 1”. I said “no.. not INR 1, just give me back my 25 paise”. Thats when he understood how serious this might get. I walked to the billing counter and asked him to call his manager on the floor and after a few minutes a chap walked in. Before I could explain the problem, the staff who swindled my 25 paise told him what I was making a “fuss” about in a rude manner. Without even apologising for the behaviour of his staff, not that the staff apologised to me in the first place, the Manager took out a INR 1 coin from the drawer and tossed it towards me. I got infuriated and raised my voice against such pathetic behaviour of the staff. They both started arguing, in a rough and angry voice, on what they were expected to do. I told them, Firstly you both should apologise for swindling customers of their money and secondly instead of being rude to the customer they should behave well as they were the culprits. But everything fell on deaf ears when they were like “take the INR 1 or leave”. I like a fool stood their and kept my argument going to make a point that its not about the value of the money - 25 paise or 25 INR or 25k INR, its my hard earned money and they should not be doing such things without the approval of the customers. They didn’t give up either, rather were still sniggering at what seemed be my naïveté at asking back my 25 paise.

After about 10 minutes, I was fed up and tired and asked them to at-least apologise for which the Manager tells me in Kannada “Seri Sorry.. Hogu” which roughly translates to “Ok Sorry.. now go” in a dismissive voice. And the staff who swindled the money is sniggering for that too without apologising. I got angry and told them I am going to report this to the higher management and asked for the names, the manager got angry “Nanna Hesary Devaraj.. Hogi yen maadthiyo maadko” which translates to “My name is Devaraj… do whatever you want” in a challenging tone. He actually challenged me to try to report and take action against him. Still the other staff was sniggering but never gave his name.

This seems to be the normal behaviour in the restaurant because the staff and the manager seem to be unfazed and the manager gave out his name and challenged me to do whatever I can!

I ask the Management of Annapoorani the following questions,

1. How long have the staff in your Indiranagar restaurant been swindling money from customers?
2. How come Annapoorani has managed to have such rude thugs as staff in their restaurants?
3. Is this the normal in your restaurants?
And lastly,
4. What action would you, if at all someone in the Annapoorani management knows how serious this issue is, take against these staff in your restaurant?

I sincerely urge people to go to any of the other choice of South Indian restaurants in the area and avoid such places, which try to swindle money from your wallet and treat you bad. No one deserves this kind of treatment.

The rating will be 1 till the restaurant takes serious note of their staff's behaviour and take some action.
Alisha Rachel Kurian
The three stars go only for the food. Well the service was such a disappointment that you need to wait forever for them to attend you. + I felt it was overpriced to an extent as well.
Yohan
Ordered through swiggy a couple of times and it is good food without the frills. So if you are looking for some comfort food, this is a good veg option.
Tharun Raj
I can rate 3 stars only for the food. Service is really bad literally they will make u wait for 10 minutes to take one order and they don't even have a proper card swiping machine. I can't believe that they have been established since 14 years.
Sudhir Kiran
Locating the restaurant is easy.

What's Good
A good south Indian vibe.

How's Food
Tasted their deluxe thali. A typical south Indian thali. The spread is good. Food is completely non spicy. Some dishes are like very close to home prepared food like plain dal with ghee, payasam. Overall taste is good.

What's not so good
Atleast on the day I visited there was no valet neither there is any dedicated parking. So 4 wheelers is a strict no. Guess that's the issue with most places in Indiranagar.

Bottom Line - A decent outing
Sourabh Sahu
One of the best saapadu in bengalore. Love going there on weekends for it. There regular menu is great too, pessarettu, iddiappams and chat masala dosa are some of the good things to try.
Emmanuel (@bangalorefoodboy89)
The ghee Roast was perfectly crisp, however, the Dosa and sambar were too salty. The chutneys were tasty as well. Hopefully, the Dosa next time will be better.
Anindita Biswas
Very good traditional Kannada food. Loved the akki and ragi roti! Bit pricey and menu options are a bit rigid. But the food is worth revisiting.
Deedu Pipada
Average food, Reasonable Price, Good Service.

This is a typical South Indian Restaurant with variety of South Indian delicacies. If you're a fan of south Indian food, you can try this place. It has decent food but i highly suggest they enhance the flavours because a few of the dishes i felt were a little bland. Nothing delectable. I would recommend it just once.
Nithya Ramesh
Omg !! Can't believe I have been in Bangalore for 5 years and missed this amazing place. Went there for Sunday lunch... They serve you mouth watering South Indian meals on a banana leaf. All the courses of rice with veggies and condiments a crispy vada and papad.. and very reasonably priced. Do not eat breakfast !! It is also extremely reasonably priced. Can't wait to go back
Precilla Ac
Not at all good it is not worth of 267 rupees for kalyana sapadu ...everything s very tangy...there was nothing n daal..it's completely plain...gasagasa payasam was very sweet watery...No sambar rasam everything was tangy nothing was good...satarday lunch was disappointing n money gone waste...they give only two poriyal that is also ok ok...totally waste of money
Excellent Food and Ambience. One of few places where we still are able to get authentic South Indian food, in Bangalore without any compromise to quality.
Sowmya Lakshmi

We went with family for lunch last Sunday.

Food is served on a large Banana leaf. The spread included: Payasam/ Kheer, Vada, Chutney, Ladiesfinger Poriyal, Ash gourd Kootu, Pulav, Manathakali Vathal Kuzambu, Sambar, Mooli Raita, Rasam, Curd, pickle, Papad, Dal and Ghee.

It was a complete meal from Tamil Nadu cuisine.

Taste and Service were good. We will visit again.

Food on weekends is awesome. Pure Vegetarian food, sambhar is very tasty on all days. If you want to take your family for pure veg meal, go for it.

Have been here twice, once for lunch and once for a casual dinner. So mentioning about the two, I had come over here for Saturday afternoon lunch. I had to wait for sometime as it was crowded. The thing that I liked here was that they had mentioned what and all are the items that they would be serving for the lunch so that we can enter into that hotel with that mindset accordingly.

The ambience of the restaurant was quite nice as it gave that traditional feel as Carnatic music was playing in the background. The meals were served on the banana leaf with all the items right from vada, poriyal, parupu, sambar, rasam, sweet, special rice and finish with curd and buttermilk. The meals were unlimited and by the time you would go for second serving or third serving you would be completely full. It was so contentful for me to have a nice meal for the price it was charged as it is quite rare to get Tanjore style meals in Bangalore.

There was another time I had thought I would try the dinner here, so went to try the Tiffen items. I had ordered Sambar idly and Onion Rava Dosa and my friend had ordered Adai Aviyal. The sambar idly was quite good, Onion Rava Dosa would have been even nicer if it was little crispier. The taste of Adai aviyal was perfect.

Overall if anyone wants to try out authentic Tanjore style meals or Tamil Nadu style Tiffen items then they should visit the place without any second thoughts.
Karthik Ramesh
A simple place with simple food!!!!
True tamil nadu food.
Go there for some nice food and thats what you get. No strings attached.
Loved their afternoon meals!
Syed Shoaeb
Had been to dinner recently, Ambience is ok ....staff is friendly......the food is authentic south, ordered rotti meals(ragi roti, jowar roti, 2 wheat rotis, curd rice, 2 curries and 2 pudi chutney) 155/- & regular meals 150/- , the best thing about this south indian restaurant is that in the rice or any other dish they donot add soda .....unlike few known south indian hotels ....the meal was great.

If you want a break from non veg or any heavy cuisines this the place to go...its like a regular south indian hotel but with good food ! Try it once !
Dinesh Pasupathy
A great place for a typical Tamil Nadu style food. The kalyana Sapadu on weekends is a must try here.
The staff are very courteous. The ambiance is casual. The service is very fast.
PS: ask for as much ghee as you want with rice and they'll serve it without any hesitation.
Taste 4.5/5
Value for money 5/5
service 4/5
ambiance 3.5/5

Authentic Tamil food. I got the same taste what I had when traveling via North Tamilnadu. You have to take stairs to first floor so for people with walking difficulties will find it tough to climb. Value for money. Ambiance is ok.
Radhika Ajay
Bad food. The dahi vada was hopeless.

Excellent indian food served on a plantain leaf. Service is good. Had meals as also dosa and ada at different points in time. The preparation is tasty and prepared with care. A must try for everyone and am sure you'll love the experience.

I've been wanting to write about them for a long time and finally, here goes. For someone who is from Chennai and completely dwells on south Indian food, I found solace with this place.

Food 3.5/5

For starters, their dosas are as crispy as the ones that we get in Chennai and their sambhar is not sweet :')

My pick would always be their coconut sevai and the arisi upma. Trust me, I don't think there's any other place that serves these in Bangalore. If someone knows any other similar places, please let me know. :)

Also, their sides along with the poori is yummy!

Ambience - 2.5/5

One thing they can probably improve on is the way the restaurant looks. It has a quiant feel about itself which is ok, but it can be maintained a little better. I've never had the problem because I swiggy their food more often than not.

On the whole, this place is absolute value for money just for their authentic south Indian food. Must try!
Bharath Prasanna
Ordered from here. Great Pongal, chutneys, vathakozhmbu and fantastic podi. Was fantastic even when delivered so can't wait to try the dishes at the restaurant
Hemant Trivedi
Authentic food. Missing some spice in all the chutneys or curies provided with dosas and rotis. Value for money for people looking for good authentic food.

I went to have lunch on a weekend. The food was pretty good but the SERVICE WAS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. We missed out some of the food items as we were not aware that they were being served. It would be good if the management pays attention to the service even during peak time.
Sumukh Herlekar
Went for Pongal special lunch. Paid 350 plus 5%Taxes. Is that for the location or the food. Certainly that the price u pay because u happen to be in Indira Nagar. Else the same food in some Tamil mess can be enjoyed .
But no complaints .. food was quintessential Tamil food ..
Price was hiked up for the pongal sunday ..will I be back? Certainly not..

Do you love full meals?? Then this is the best place for lunch. South Indian pure veg full meals served in banana leaf. Rice with dhal and ghee, sambar, rasam, vathakuzambu (a dish in south indian style), curd, pappad, aviyal and poriyal, briyani kind of variety rice, vada, payasam and pickle... Taste of the food is just awesome. Ambiance is also good with slow karnatic music in back ground. Highlight of the hotel is UNLIMITED food. You can enjoy with your family for best lunch experience... Service should be appreciated...👍🏽 Price is also reasonable. When compared to other hotels which serves limited thali for the same price.

Looking for a casual lunch on a Christmas day, found this place in Zomato. Expecting a normal South Indian lunch place, so this fits the bill. The place is behind the 100ft road, tucked into a quiet residental place in Indira Nagar. The ambience looks typical to the bhavans, A2b hotels...

On the menu, the Kalyana saapadu is the eye catcher, so went for it. Supposed to be available only on weekends and public holidays, unfortunately the hotel thinks Christmas is not a public holiday for them.. so had to settle for the regular meals. The food is typical south Indian brahmin food, the kootu, sambar, beans carrot curry are all great, Rasam was outstanding. Even the paruppu podi was very good.

Service was slow, many times have to wave my hand to just get their attention, the extras took so long to arrive on the table.

Overall, a place with very good south Indian food at a very reasonable price.

Ambience 3/5
Food 4/5 (coz I didn't have the Kalyana saapadu)
Service 3/5
Vfm 4/5
Gourinandan Tonpe
A very good place to have traditional South Indian Vegetarian meal. No extravagant ambience and serves a good tasty meal. Go there when you are really hungry and it is good value for money.

Annapoorani has been famous in Indiranagar since many years, even before the hotel was started, they used to cater to functions.they are known for quality south indian food. Had tasted their tiffin items until last year's Pongal when I happened to savour their meals. It was too good and worth the price.Expecting the same, went for the meals today, but sad to note it was not the same. The location has recently changed and even though the new place is spacious there is no maintenance. The food was good and tasty but the number of items have come down considerably in the meals. For that price you expect the special items but they said its not available during the weekends.I thought the executive meal is available only on weekends...sounds dicey.
The only good thing was the unlimited quantity they serve, but of course the service was not upto the mark.
In all they need to focus a bit more to get back to their old standard. However their tiffin items still stay gud.must try their akki roti, that is worth it.giving 3.5 only because of that

Food is ok, But it is too costly.sabji, pickle, applam, vathakulambu, sambar, koottu, rasam, sweet, payasam, buttermilk etc. nearly Rs 300 for one (parcel).

It is expensive

Good place, tasty food, service was nice, this time i was in hurry, so my next review will be detailed one. For now this is the ideal place to have healthy and tasty food

Love the food at Annapoorani always. Have not been disappointed so far. But have a big complaint regarding take out parcel. Invariably some item gets missed. A couple of weeks back, it was pineapple pachadi and this week, it was Puzhi Inji. This is awful, especially when the item missing is the one item for which we ordered the take-home lunch parcel. Can you please do something to fix this issue?

If you are looking for simple, pocket friendly south indian food.... Then u have landed at the right place.
Nice ambiance, good food quality and good service.
Taste is like home cooked food. tastes good.
service is quick and good.
Ambience is plane and simple.
I went there for dinner, wanted to have a deluxe meal with unlimited fills. however, deluxe is only available in afternoon 15:30.
Had to go for limited meal.
Limited meals was good. however, sambhar and rasam server is not enough for rice served.
And refill is not allowed in limited meals. Thus, one lands up wasting rice.
I checked with waiter and he said that no refill was allowed for sambhar.
That should be changed.

we ordered a limited meal + Podi dosa + a plate of idli.

Quite delicious and pocket friendly. The ambience is ok, but the service is fast and staff are courteous. I'd recommend this place for delicious South Indian food. The buffet here is fantastic as well!

Kiran N Rao
Authentic south Indian food. Fresh and tasty dosas. Little over priced for south Indian food. Podi idli is my favourite (mini idlis tossed in ghee and chutney pudi).
Spiritual atmosphere and generous staff.
Shankar Balasubramaniam
Fantastic and authentic tasting South Indian food served in traditional style banana leaf. Food quality and quantity is good. Professional service and relaxed ambiance.
Krishna Chaitanya Sasubilli
Food is not spicy. I think the food suits more for BP patients. And food is not south Indian. It's tamil style.
Ambience is decent. Service is quick. They only serve thali.
Gauri Hariharan
Long story short. Simple place. Fresh, hot, authentic, nutritious and plainly delicious Tamil food served on a banana leaf. You relish your food while your ears enjoy the carnatic music being played. They serve unlimited meals for a decent price worth the platter..
. Dont go by the look of the place. All Tamilians would go ga-ga over its so 'ghar ka khana' and the rest- yar ek attempt toh banta hai!!
Heard that they serve some brilliant Brahmin veg fare so ordered Annapoorani Kalyana Sapadu meals through Swiggy. it was just awesome!

Please maintain the same quality and consistency with your meals. Really really love it. Will order every weekend!
R. S
Amazing Brahmin veg meals! Ordered two deluxe meals through Swiggy and they were delivered piping hot and fresh!

Hope they keep up the quality and consistency. Highly recommended!

There is a distinct difference in taste compared to Andra meals outlets like nagaurjuna etc. Really liked the deluxe thali . Made me miss my mom's food as it had similar taste. Kootu and vegayam sambhar were d best. Venn pongal found itself slightly out of place in the thali. Nice and simple ambience and the service was really good
Meena Sriram
Lovely and simple south Indian thali, yummy it is.

The ambiance is neat and classic as well.

Only concern we had :The kids meal is served on a plate with a banana leaf, servers insisted that it can't be served as adult thali, just on the banana leaf, thou we just wanted to transfer the same kids meal on the leaf. Thats something craze.Otherwise worth the visit.
BHAGYASHREE DESHPANDE
Today we had been to this restaurant. We ordered jowar roti. The thali had 2 rotis one small darshini chutney container size bhaji, 2 chutney powders with small amount of curd on it. This costs 90 rupees. Even if they charge more the quality and quantity both are not as expected. Akki roti didn't had salt also. We went here with expectations of North Karnataka styled jowar roti food. But big zero. If anybody is going with expectations of North Karnataka styled food, you come out with big frustration
Bharath
Terrible customer service and horrible food we had . The reason they give is because it was the last stock today. Am shocked and surprised they offer customer the poor quality and give a reason to justify it
Srinivas Kuruganti
I ordered takeaway kalyana Sapadu. It took 30 minutes for them to deliver it, and I was not the only one for whom they delayed. Not sure if they have any manpower issues.

Coming to food, Im disappointed with the taste. Dal, kootu and potato curry was normal taste and you need to add salt as it was not present in Dal and kootu. They served tomato chutney, which completely lacked taste.

Sambar is the only one that was worth eating. They served pongal also, and it is good.

There was payasam and rasam, and nothing special about them.

All in all for 290Rs it is not worth the money and any day I probably will go to Nagarjuna which is on the same road and serves much better tasty food or goto krishna cafe in koramangala. I will not visit this place again. It is a complete disaster and disappointment.

Finally i have found a typical tamilian veg restaurant that has that authentic feel and taste in food. I took my patents for a sunday lunch. They ve a spl kalyana sapadu menu for sundays, we loved the food! Only disappointment we faced was the service. They are not fast with serving bcoz of which the dishes got dry by the time they served the rice. With kids and elderly it might get difficult, but they managed somehow.

Overall, 'besh besh, romba nanna irundhudu' types. I think we are gonna be very regular customers to this place.
Naman Mittal
Went here on Ugadi. A great place if you wish to have authentic South Indian meals. The ambience and the staff adds a typical South Indian touch to it.
Sachin Varriar
Very good south Indian food. The restaurant is a very simple one, no fancy ambience, but it's very cozy. The food is good. Must try the podi ghee roast and coffee. The vada also brings back memories of the small tea shop vada in your hometown.

I was really craving Tambrahm style food on a banana leaf so decided to go to this place with nu bro! Everything was so perfect..!
Kalyana sapadu on a banana leaf. There were so many dishes sent one after the other. The food is homestyle tamil brahmin food. There are a lot of items that are served so ensure you have enough space in your tummy to devour all the scrumptiousness.
Not to mention everything served as a part of the deluxe meal is unlimited! PS: I had too many appalams (papad) that I literally lost count of how many.
Ambience- simple homestyle, nothing too fancy
Value for money- High ( the deluxe meal costs about Rs 250/- per person)
Must try - Deluxe meal served on a banana leaf

I loved the place and will visit again soon!
Bindu Dhayalan
It was our lunch today. Heard about it from a friend so drove quite a bit to get here. Well, it wasn't bad. We enjoyed the light on the tummy meals. The sambar was super tasty. Very familiar Tamil Nadu food! But for Rs.155 , the quantity given and variety is very less. We had 2 chapati, kurma , sambar , rasam, poriyal n curd. Dessert was one melt in your mouth Mysore pak. The place is a bit unkept. Quality of ingredients can be better. I may not visit again, but lunch was good.

Good one !! Wanna be in a tamil Brahmin house for lunch with that kinda classical music playing for you ?? This is the place !! We could feel the freshness of the food they served here !! A bit costly on weekends .. but it's a real spread !! Had meals and masaladosa !! Loved it !!

Have been eating at Annapoorani since they first opened at Cambridge layout back in mid 2000s. Have almost always had a decent experience in terms of food and service. Popped in last evening for dinner with family and had the worst experience till date. The dosas, uthappam, poori and pongal were all below average. The chutney was tasteless and the sambar wasn't anything to write about either. Very disappointed.

The food was fresh, wholesome, authentic and fairly tasty but but not warm.

The service wasn't responsive and needed reminders from patrons who asked for extra servings of items. There was a steady stream of patrons throughout the afternoon (some even waited in a queue outside for their turn to be served) and the staff didn't seem to be prepared for the kind of crowd they were probably hoping for.

They had even run out of obbattu by the time I requested for a second serving! But they offered a gulab jamun as compensation.

The interiors and tables were clean and hygienic. The managers though could have worn a smile on their faces. It was a festival day after all.

Today i had meals in Annapoorni 3/29/2017. sorry to say that the food is not at all good in taste. I paid 265 rs which is not at all worth. I visited the place based on the below reviews only. when i visited first time 2 years back, food is awesome. But today it is very to low standard.

Super authentic, best ghee roast masala dosa and rava dosa, lovely staff, lots n lots of gluten free options....Thanjuvar plain adai and thulasi adai are not available at any other place ...

there are very limited places in bengaluru where they serve authentic tamilnad food....annapoorani is one. full meals on banana leaf. piping hot rice with tasty sambar rasam milagu kozhambu kootu sweets etc. they need to improve on service speed..hot rice must follow quickly with sambar or rasam delivery else rice will get cold. also include moru(butter milk) in the menu. lovely food

plain, elbows on the table kind of place. no ambience, but the service was fairly good and moving.
they are attentive and the thali was not good.

Absolutely the best South Indian food I've had in Bangalore so far!
We ordered the idli pudi (100/100, it was so good we ordered one more in the end). It was soft, buttery and loaded with the pudi chutney!
We also called for the ghee roast dosa and true to its name it was ladled with ghee but extremely extremely tasty. The onion Uthappa however was slightly less cooked than I'd have liked. They also had wayyyy too much onion in it but as a whole it was a decent dish.
The rassam is to die for. And the buttermilk is served with tadka chilli and curry leaves in it. It's not something I've had before but I loved it nevertheless. The staff is friendly, really nice and quick. Not everyone on their staff understands Hindi though. If you're not a local, you might want to call for one of the waiters to explain half the things on the menu!
Definitely coming back for more here.

A delightful south indian tamil hotel run by Moulis Catering in indira Nagar a locality of a gazillion soulless glass and chrome restaurant chains. Very neat and clean. Service is prompt and unhurried. A server hovers nearby without intruding to help serve what we want. A very nice place to have a home-like tamil lunch in Bengaluru.

I had been searching for a perfect Pure Veg Saapad serving place. I'm glad I found Annapoorani on zomato. Annapoorani is located on Double Road, Indiranagar. They provide valet parking service which is a saviour on this road. While I entered the place I was apprenhensive looking at the interiors. The place looks like a town styled old restaurant and not of a fine dining place. The ambience is very average. Come here just for the food and not for the ambience so you won't go home disappointed.

I enjoyed my meal here. The Saapad (South Indian Meals) was served on a banana leaf (traditional style). Kosambari was mouth watering, Sambar was amazing but pappu (dal) really needs attention. The meals served was unlimited. They do have other dishes served on weekdays. The staff were on their toes to serve you rice the moment you are done with the portion served. The service was real quick and I liked it.

I found the price to be a little higher. I paid Rs.350/- as it was some new year special menu but I found the menu to be similar to their regular days. On any other day they charge Rs.250/- which might seem bit reasonable in comparison. Taste can be worked upon and made better and price can looked at too.

Food is good but variety is very less. There are other places that provide more varieties for the same money.
The lighting of the place can be better. Sometimes they waiters miss to serve the mentioned dishes in the set menu. And the set menu sweet can be more exotic than a kalkand pongal. I mean when you pay so much you atleast expect something that we dont make at home that often.

Tried the malleshwaram branch and the taste is really bad.The taste is completely different from the indiranagar branch. They served food which was cold and the Tiffin combo ws too bad. When we questioned about the taste, the manager replied saying that the food is prepared somewhere else and delivered here.So there is nothing much they can do.
Have been eating in the indiranagar branch from a long time.Really disappointed with the malleshwaram branch.

If you're looking for your fix of traditional south Indian dishes, walk right in. This is the answer to the factory produced A2Bs of the city. The ambience is cozy and pongal, idlis and dosas are just exceptional.
If you like it the Tamil way, don't forget to wash it down with a spot of chilled rose milk.
Rudy
Somewhat ok, but not great taste in meals, in picture they showed like they are serving in Banana leaf, but they served in plates only, for this taste price is high. imrove taste for your meals and get more money from ppls.

Just an update on my review below. I promptly got a management response asking for the details and an assurance to fix the issue. Thank you! As I said, your food is great! If you can fix this teething issue, it will help those of us who are regular customers for your takeaway lunch. Please keep up the good work!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Love the food, but have a complaint about takeout lunch. They miss the speecial dish many times in takeaway parcel especially on special occasions. While this is understandable error given the crowd, it is irritating. This happened to us on all the major festival days 3 times in a row. After paying Rs 400 for one lunch, when yu find the special main dish missing in the parcel, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. When we called to complain, though they apologized, the same thing happened to us on New year takeaway lunch. Wish the management would fix this problem!

We wanted to try north Karnataka thali and rotis. Faced the worst service and a rigid staff. The old guy at the counter who seemed to be one of the owners was least interested in the customers. We were told we can't order different items are share even for limited meals, Tiffins and general orders. The ambience is below average.

A beautiful small looking Authentic South Indian restaurant in Indranagar, which can be easily missed due to the busy road. But once you enter inside its a foodie heaven. You are greeted by some mesmerising South Indian folk music. The menu has quite a lot of options which I had never heard of. So I asked the waiter to suggest me some dishes. I ordered Muringakeerai Adai (its some mix flour based uttapam) which was truly delicious. Then I had ordered Bisebile bhat (Sambhar Rice). Both the dishes were outstanding.

Would definitely recommend the place to anyone who wants to eat authentic south Indian food with an authentic ambience.

Best restaurant to have South Indian lunch or dinner. The taste is very authentic. Loved the bisibellah bath and ghee dosa here. Hope the quality of food remains the same.
