Tried masala dosa, set dosa and Hyderabadi biryani. The taste is awesome. Nice ambience and a good hygienic restaurant and providing quick and fast service. If you prefer eating veg Food either North or South for reasonable price, go right now and Check it out. Overall it was nice experience.

Ordered Dal khichadi and Aloo Paratha. Dal paratha was truly lip smacking. While the regret about Aloo Paratha was, it was made from maida and not whole wheat resulting it very starchy.

Title: A True Culinary Gem in Bangalore Review: I recently had the pleasure of dining at Hotel Chandrika in Bangalore, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. As one of the oldest hotels in the city, it has a rich history that is evident in both its ambiance and its flavors. The hotel's prime location on Cunningham Road, right in the heart of the city, makes it easily accessible for both locals and tourists alike. Hotel Chandrika truly excels in providing an authentic taste of South Indian cuisine. Their idli, dosa, and vada are simply outstanding. Each dish is prepared with utmost care, using traditional recipes that have been passed down through generations. The flavors are vibrant and the textures are spot on, showcasing the mastery of the chefs in the kitchen. While exploring their menu, I came across a hidden gem that I highly recommend: the bonda soup. This delightful delicacy is a unique twist on the classic bonda, featuring a flavorful and comforting soup base with perfectly cooked bondas floating within. It's a must-try for anyone looking to experience something new and delicious. In addition to the exceptional food, the service at Hotel Chandrika is commendable. The staff members are friendly, attentive, and always ready to assist with any queries or recommendations. Their passion for their craft is evident in their warm hospitality, adding an extra touch of delight to the dining experience. The restaurant itself exudes a charming and nostalgic ambiance. It is a place where tradition meets modernity, with tasteful decor and a cozy atmosphere. Whether you're enjoying a meal with friends or having a quiet dinner for two, Hotel Chandrika offers a pleasant setting for any occasion. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend Hotel Chandrika to anyone in search of authentic South Indian delicacies in Bangalore. From their mouthwatering idli and dosa to the innovative bonda soup, every dish is a delightful journey for your taste buds. Combined with the restaurant's prime location in Cunningham Road and impeccable service, it is a dining experience that will leave you wanting to come back for more.

We had lunch at Hotel Chandrika, and there was a 15-minute wait due to the peak lunch hour rush. The place was crowded, with all the staff working diligently. We tried their North Indian thali, which was delicious and satisfying. Their starters were also tasty, making it a great option for vegetarians. However, the atmosphere can sometimes get crowded and packed due to the high number of customers. Overall, it's a good place to enjoy a fulfilling vegetarian meal, despite the occasional crowd.

Hotel Chandrika One of the oldest Restuarant in Bengaluru, it is located vasanth bagar Cunningham road. The food is average taste, but the staff and atmosphere is oke

If you are in this area and are looking for a set south Indian meal, this restaurant is a great choice. During peak lunch and dinner times it is VERY crowded so be prepared to wait. Seating is also quite close to each other so you may be a little cramped while eating. But the food ans excellent service makes up for this. What I like about this restaurant is no matter how many clients are waiting to be seated they don't rush you with your meal. Pricing is value for money. Place is hygienic and clean.

Amazing food as I ordered the North Indian Special Thali and the items in them were 1x Tomato Soup 3x Naan’s 2x Dal’s 1x Paneer Gravy 1x Pulav 1x Curd rice 1x Jamun 1x Ice cream. The washroom area was not upto standards and not even a tissue to wipe your hands. Food wise, one can quickly have his/her lunch and move on to their work, Crowd wise is pretty decent. Price wise is also budget friendly.

It's a pure veg restaurant.i took south Indian meals for lunch.tastewise it was good. Quantitywise also sufficient. But items and sides could have been more else price could have been reduced less. Service was quick

This is one of the iconic restaurant in this area. Went for dinner and the food tasted good. North Indian dishes tasted good. Especially there veg kofta curry went well with other main dishes. The ambiance is good and spacious. Price is reasonable for the quantity they serve. The place is maintained well and they make sure to clean/Sanitize the floor at regular times. Evening coffee and pakoda tasted good. Overall if you are looking a for a good vegetarian food in this area, then this is the place.

Located in the heart of the city, Hotel Chandrika is a popular culinary destination that promises a delightful experience for food enthusiasts like me. The attentive staff, generous portion sizes, and reasonable prices contribute to the overall appeal of this culinary gem. One of the iconic restaurants in Bengaluru. Prompt and friendly service. Clean, spacious and less crowded unless it is weekends. Car parking is a struggle so it's better to avoid getting here by car. A good hygienic restaurant serving delicious south indian food. Love their rava idli and vada sambar. Their panner chilli dosa is also one of my favs.
Ashok Muralidaran
Good South Indian Hotel with Average Rate. Idly, Dosa and Rice items available. Taste is very good and waiter response is good. For two person morning breakfast expense would cost around Rs.100 to 200. Car parking available in front of hotel for only two cars. It's very close to signal.

Good restaurant for all age people and couples. Here you can it the south and north Indian food with good range of choice. It's nearest to Bangalore Cantonment station..I was there for dinner more then two times during my stay in this city.

Vegetarian restaurant with good taste and affordable dishes. Tawa mushroom is a must try.

CHANDRIKA is the GO TO darshini on cumningham road. The service is super fast and the food is good.
Coffee and meals are the must try items here.

It is usually clean, but always crowded. Though there is nothing different in the menu, the items are a bit pricey. A coffee is 25 and a dosa starts from 60.

If you are in Cunningham road and need a quick meal or snack then this is a place to visit.
Daneshnr
A few of the weekend breakfasts are at Chandrika. All their choices of Dosa's are good. I like their Rawa Dosa. A filter coffee is a must.

If you’re like me and you’d kill for a piping hot, lightly sweet, semi spiced tangy Udupi Samabar, then you will be extremely satisfied. The Idli Vada Sambar dip here is an absolute winner.

It Was Birthday Party of my colleague and we end up choosing Chandrika because it is just near by from our office, And it was cool choice as compare to other options.

Positive - Service was quick and efficient chef to prepare your food on time which is very rare now days. Food was delicious and enjoyable. We all enjoyed our dinner in minimum price.

Negitive - Not Much Negitive points as per there menu they are good. I think one Point I want to mention that is Steel Glasses in a Restaurant I have seen first time. Rest everything was fine.

My suggestion is to go and enjoy your meal at Chandrika.
Pavan Peter
The new renovated restaurant gives an amazing feel. Extremely kind waiters as well as helper boys. One of those authentic kannada tastes in the city!

I'm new in Bangalore and started hating South Indian instantly. But when I visited Hotel Chadrika, I found out that the problem wasn't South Indian food. I was just eating at the wrong places. Good interior with better food. I'd recommend people to try the Breakfast Combo. Masala Dosa, Idli, Chow Chow Bath, Vada, Kesari Bath and a coffee. Worth every penny.
The Big Hungry Panda
This Place Has Some Amazing Food And The Place Is Completely Packed During Lunch Hours I Had A Though Time Finding A Seat. Ordered The North Indian Thali Which Soo Delicious And Is Priced At Rs 163/- And Is Inclusive Of Taxes. This Is A Perfect Meal To Have For Lunch.

Place: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Service: ⭐⭐⭐
Food: ⭐⭐⭐
Value: ⭐⭐⭐

Tried their lemon pepper soup ..just out of the world .. spicy n hot !! Treat your tongue with this tangy hot pepper flavoured liquid . Tastes great .
Jayashree Debur Nagarajan
Finger licking good. I haven't tried South Indian here but the North indian dishes are extremely tasty and worth every penny. Most of the North Indian hotels boast about their food which turns out to be extra oily or not fresh. This hotel serves you fresh and good quality food. We spoke to abhishek, he was very helpful and made us order the apt dishes. The best and the most imp part is the filter coffee. It's a lil crowded bt its worth every bite of food u taste. We have been here couple of times and looking forward to visit once a month atleast to try everything on the menu. Awesome place. Must try!!
Portiaarokya
Good place to have a proper South Indian meal. Pretty good ambience with AC and normal seating.
Filter coffee and Pot Biryani is a must try when you visit Hotel Chandrika.
Mukessh
Ordered from chandrika through Uber eats, Masala dosa was good, but sambar and chutney was ok ok, would definitely go try there once.
Review purely based on Home delivery.

I offenly visit chandrika hotel,They just showcase that they maintain cleanliness ,but thats not true, One day I ordered South Indian Meal, piece of stell scrubber which we use to wash vessels was inside the curry. Really disappointed with this kind of service.
Shameek Chakraborty
It's a regular restaurant where you find ample amount of options to choose from - be it South Indian dishes or North Indian. It's crowded most of the times, and usually requires a wait in the lunch hours. The service is pretty fast and the food tastes well too.
R Sengupta
Typical South Indian quick service place. Fast efficient veg only but not that easy on pocket, maybe due to the real estate location. They have been operating for many years. We ordered a plate of Idli-vada and Rava idli plus coffee, and the bill was about ₹140. The place is clean, parking may be a problem. Would like to try more of their stuff.
Zoya
Tthe food is tasty and service is also good.. If your planning to have food in the restaurant it's yummy and staff is also very good :). But if you order it at home it will not be nice... My experience was as such.. The quantity was less when ordered home :(
Gaurav
I arrived with my wife today for lunch and asked for a coffee. We sat down in the AC area because we wanted a table to ourselves. We ordered a thali. I was told categorically that they do not serve coffee in the AC area. I asked the waiter if he wanted my wife to eat inside while I go outside for my coffee. He said yes. Weird. Totally. Weird.

Ambiance - 3/5

Price - 2/5

Quality of food - 3.5/5

Service - 2/5

This is a pure veg typical Bangalorean restaurant; when you're here during a lunch time, all you can expect is a disappointing service, but not disappointing food. The food is absolutely nothing to complain, very good food, but can never accept the sky rocketing price. However, during the ultra crowded lunch hours, they still manage to deliver the food as much fast as possible, but, ensure you keep them on toes by ordering food fast, otherwise, the gentleman next to us missed out curd. After he finished, he had to observe the curd on our plate & when pointed they were apologetic & offered him curd that too after he paying the bill.
If you're planning to visit with a car, please behold there's only place to park just 2 cars. two-wheeeler? very limited parking. They accept credit card in this AC restaurant
Anyway, that should not deter from visiting this place atleast once

I had been to Millers road & found this hotel nearby to my place, was hungry in the morning and causally stepped in and as it was breakfast time ordered my favourite Puri Sagu and It was just OK to me. I was still hungry and the Hotel staff suggested me to try their "Dosa of the Day" which was Palak Dosa that day. I went with it and to my surprise it tasted good, they served 2 dosa's with chutuney's and sambar. The very next day when i stepped in the hotel, i again opted for "Dosa of the Day" and this time it was Mysore Mallige Dosa. The way it was presented was Beautiful and the Dosa was Superb. It was stuffed with a lot veggies. Thanks Guys.. Keep up the good work.

No Service in Kannada,No Menu cards in Kannada,No Signboards in Kannada.
Until U give respect for kannada,No business in ur hotel.

Been to Hotel Chandrika on a number of occasions for quick lunches. Fast service, decent food, eat-quickly-and-return-to-work kind of food.

The South Indian thali is nice, though can be better. Some of the starters like the baby corn and gobi manchurians are good, but a little too oily. The North Indian dishes are actually very good, with Veg. Kolhapuri being the best of the lot. Pairing it with stuffed kulcha makes for a complete meal.

Need to avoid going here during rush lunch hours, after 1.15 pm, because getting place then is a task and you may have to share tables with other customers. Looking for a quick South/North Indian place and if you're not fussy about tables and overall ambience, Hotel Chandrika serves as a quick fix solution.

Ambience - 3/5 Food - 4/5 Service 3/5 VFM - 4/5 Parking - None

This is one of the old timers favourite Darshinis and our friend who’s been for long in Bangalore took us there. We were a group of around 10, who’d just finished a nice jog at Cubbons park and our stomachs were growling. The restaurant was decently crowded that Sunday morning and we had to split into two groups to get seating.
We ordered the standard breakfast fare and service was very prompt. Idlis were soft and was complemented well with coconut chutney. Vada was crisp and tasty.
We also ordered Pongal,Puri Sagu and Masala dosa and washed it down with filter coffee.
An awesome place for a filling breakfast!

taste was good but i have not given the ice cream ?

It is a good restaurant near cunningham road, they are providing good service from past 35 years. Its a best hotel for taste. North Gravies are very tasty also they are maintaining clean.Feel good if we get seat on afternoon, it will be too rush between 12.30 to 03.30.

very nice
VISHAL VASHIST
Awesome place to visit for pure veggies, though very crowded during lunch and dinner time. Ambience is okay and you have to sit with random people during the rush hour.

Wait time is less and staff is very polite. Tried paneer biryani and kaju masala for lunch - just delicious.

Ganesh C Mallaiah
Very good hygiene place for south Indian delicacies specially all the dosas taste very good its quick service easy access from my office its nice.
Ajit Singh
Just a casual place for food, taste seems to be average. Need to maintain better quality of food. North Indian and south Indian meal are average. But have better varieties and taste in Dosa.
Chandrika Madathil
I had been to Chandrika hotel for lunch and had ordered special South Indian meals...the food quality was horrible and when I informed them they weren't much bothered. Though I had sat in the A/c room it was very hot inside. I hope they read my review and improve the quality of the food and make the customers comfortable
Shivam Pandey
Ambiance: Spacious enough for both small and large groups. Perfect location. Would have been great if they would have some parking area.

Food: We had ordered North Indian Thali. It had enough quantity to fill a stomach of a single person. Each of the items were tasty except the curd rice( in north indian thali how did curd rice come in?). Curd rice was not even upto the mark.

Service: This part always lacks behind in enthusiasm and interest for customer satisfaction. Here staffs behave as if each staff own this food place. Because of this part the ratings have gone down a bit otherwise it would have got more than the current rating.

Note: Need some professionalism in staffs and please wear a smile (this would surely help in making each customer more relax).

One of the decent place to look forward in Cunningham Road to have lunch or snacks. Food tastes very good and cream of mushroom soup is a must try.

Taste: 4
Service : 4
Ambience : 3.5

Love the South Indian meals and idlies. Not to forget the filter coffee. Dimly lit place. Need to keep it more hygienic and airy. Average service.
Jiya Rohit Makhija
Lovely food to dine ,staff an the waiters very cooperative north Indian an south Indian food yummy an tasty. Reasonable rates an worth eating.

This is a very good place. I visit this place quite often. Very good ambience and spacious place to sit. The staff is also quite friendly. The taste of food is also awesome!!

Just an average looking hotel on the Cunningham road. The rates are pretty reasonable and even on a busy afternoon, when it's crowded here, the food does not take much time to come to your table. The serves are courteous and make sure that your needs are met immediately.
So I ordered for a veg thali, which was good enough for my appetite. I however didn't like the Puri though, was too oily and crispy for me. Otherwise all the side items were just fine, didn't impress me at all. If you are in the vicinity, you could probably check this place out. I would like to give the
Food - 2.5/5
Service - 3/5
Ambience - 3/5
I’ve ordered food for takeaway from Chandrika a couple of times recently and have been satisfied with it.

The Idli and Vada are average but they’ll do when you’re craving them. The Set Dosa and Sagu are very tasty! Especially the Sagu. Chutney is pretty decent.

It’ll be good if they reduce the oil in the Set Dosas though.

Will be ordering again.
Srinivasa M
very poor service. very late to serve food. Food was bad. Dosa was not cooked properly, with no salt. Sagu masala was horrible, more like kurma dosa
Milan
Nothing great about the place or food.. It is one of those quick eat places, usually found near offices. Went for lunch and there was waiting for about 10 minutes. Ordered north Indian special meal. The number of options were large. Soup, curry, rice, pulav, Desserts... Too much... But taste was decent.. Just above average... Service was quick and efficient...
Krishna Karthik
This place looks like a favorite with the old-timers. The food is tasty, but the waiters seem to be nonchalant. We ordered the special North Indian thali and the quantity is more than sufficient for a person. For dessert there was some barfi which was bad and the ice cream was just half a scoop. And yeah. Looks like the defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman was here recently and there are pictures all around the place. And yeah, the food is a bit pricey.

Taste -3.5/5
Ambience - 2/5
Value for money - 3/5
What's In Your Menu.?!
We had been to this place after a long time. But the taste isn’t the same as it used be earlier.

This restaurant is on the edge of Cunningham main Road and can be easily found. You get South and North Indian food but it’s majorly good at South cuisine.

We ordered Rava idli, Khara bhath and coffee. All were good. They have good service and ambience.

Price seems to be a little high. Hope we get back the same old taste.
SHAAHID
Pathetic!!! They should change the name of plain dost to OIL Dosa!!! Too much oil, taste is below average!! Actually these guys are serving OIL to you in the name of Dosa. Shame!
Mohammed Younus (MYFoodMemoir)
A good place for south Indian food, although not as good as chalukya which is close by.
Have gone most of the times to eat their south Indian special meals. Give it a try.
Akshada
This is one of the authentic places to eat North Indian food near the area where I live in. The food was great, ambience was nice and it was pretty affordable too! You should definitely try garlic naan and paneer handi and biryani. It's so delicious! I keep coming back to this place somehow 💟
Krithika Subramaniam
If u are looking for a quick eat out , this is not the place. It takes waiters 10 min to come n take order. N ur order is lost n they have no clue what is going on. Go to sambrama near by. Better place
Faisal Syed
If there would be some negative rating, then I should go for that. First time I went there , and I ordered kadai paneer and butter naan. Naan was ok like normal restaurant, but kadai paneer was so bad like normal restaurant. They charged 160rs for paneer and there was 7 pieces of paneer and that also thin. I saw hair in the food, then they changed ( don't know did they really changed or same gave to me ) . When I ordered seeta rice, it was so bad. Zeera it seems like some insect are there..They burnt the zeera so much and was so thick. I found stone also in the rice. But when I complained , for them it was as usual
There was nothing to repent or compensate. I suggest to the reader that please look for other restaurant. If you have not started eating, please move out from there and go to better restaurant
. It is bull shit.MF*****
Pradeep
Got some hair in food they even dint replace food.wn I asked for replacement they only replaced onions, the food too costly not worth enough😠
Kritika Rao Bharadwaj
A decently priced place for a good afternoon lunch that fills your stomach and yet keeps your pocket light.North Indian and south Indian meals as thali is perfectly made to fill the hunger with right amount of food quantity.
Their Akki rotti and rava dosa are must try..
Also they have good quality of ice cream served in their own way of presenting it.
Desi Epicure
Best butter paneer masala ever... Pretty cheap, amazing taste, speedy service. If you love vegetarian food... Yes, this is the place. Chandrika gives you a typical Indian coffee house feels. Traditional taste, contemporary menu and a peculiar South India Cafe-ish ambience. This place never fails to impress, even when I order north Indian food.

Been here so many times for lunch . This place serves good vegetarian food . Commonly ordered items for lunch are north Indians thali and South Indian thali . Butter naan + panner tikka masalaa - treat for ur taste buds . Also this place serves decent sweets as well
Ramesh
Horrible food..we ordered breakfast through swiggy..they had filled the masala dosa with stale pumpkin masala..did not send any chutney. This seemed to be with a clear intention to cheat as all dosa were filled with the pumpkin masala.
KRUNAL PATEL
The best place for people who are looking for value for money food. Order anything and it will not regret you. Especially North Indian dishes.

Hotel Chandrika is one of the oldest restaurants on Cunningham Road and has been around since ages.
Recently I had work in that area, and since I was vegetarian on that particular day, a friend suggested that I should grab lunch at Chandrika since it's a vegetarian restaurant.

There's nothing "Wow" about the ambience, it's very ordinary. But it was quite crowded. They practically have everything on their menu, with South Indian, North Indian and Chinese cuisine too...

I opted for their North Indian Thali and was quite surprised as everything tasted great on it and the service was quite prompt as well.
Hitesh Mamgain
We went there for Breakfast and it was quite ordinary. The place is very clean, but the breakfast (idli, spring roll dosa, bissi-bele bhaat) was quite ordinary. My recommendation will be, if you have a different option then go there.
Supriya M
You will be shocked with the cost of each item. GST is charged both AC area and non-AC sitting area, also each food item price is higher in AC as compared in non-AC.

NEVER EVER TRY PARATHAS
Nandan
Located in a busy area and one of the many veg outlets surrounding it... Nothing to speak about the ambiance... Its renovated recently... Food was good especially the rotis and naans... Rice not so up to mark... Nice place to give a try for authentic north Indian food...
D
been here several times, old style, simple no frills. my favorite here is the dhai vada
must try: dahi vada, kashmiri pulao(very rich wit dry fruits and ghee,a little sweet)
meals and breakfast (idli dosas) very average taste
Balaji Venkataraman
Chandrika never disappoints you and this time also not an exception. Been here for Sunday breakfast with family and had experienced the old world charm with a new decor. This restaurant keeps reinventing itself - be it decor, food, service and now organic food. Idly & Vada were absolutely fresh and tasted homemade. Coconut dish for Neer dosa is one of a kind and not to be missed. Had beetroot halwa for breakfast that tasted very traditional. Washed down with fresh and strong filter coffee - blissful start for a nice Sunday morning. Chandrika is once in a month must for Sunday breakfast.
Keerthan Mk
The food was good , very nice place for a quick bite , but the service was not upto the mark as I ordered specifically not to use butter they still did it anyway .!
Vishnu Cv
My all time favorite, I love to have the breakfast as it's so tasty and quality remains the same all day.In Budget, Must try Masala Dosa, Mushroom Pepper
Harry Khubchandani
Vegetarian. Excellent Indian fare. Wifey loves it, brother loves It, I love it.
Went to Vikrams hospital for a check-up. Went to Chandrika (nearby) for lunch.
Loved it. Awesome taste. Spiced just right. Each spice in it's own place, not more not less.
They serve North and South Indian food.
Prices very very very reasonable. So reasonable that I was shocked i had to pay so less for such good food.
Sat in the aircon section.
Always make sure you don't go during rush hours. Totally packed.
They have an old man there, who I hear had worked with them for ages. Left him a huge too. Do so too when you go there.
Sagar Iyer
Based on few recommendations I visited the hotel for dinner, ordered manchow soup and found plastic bit (of milk cover) in the soup (refer top left corner in f the pic). The waiter was surprised and wanted to change it, however the fact remains. The taste was average. Not worth a second visit.
Meena Sundari T
Hotel chandrika!
I have been here once for breakfast. Idli sambar and masala dosa jst reminds me of my hometown, tamilnadu. And the filter coffee is just perfect. The staff is also friendly and the ambience is ok. They also have fresh juices amd cut fruits.

For lunch, u must try north indian meals or butter kulchas with panneer butter masala. The hotel is budget friendly.
Juhi
Food was just ok......poor service.....if u r luking for North Indian food never visit Chandrika.....did not try South Indian food though..... had cold coffee .. but that was not up to the mark... definitely not a place for North Indians craving for the authentic delicacies.....
Swati Agarwal
Good location. Wrt food - it's basically a South Indian outlet. Don't know how a South Indian would rate the south indiAn food here, but as a North Indian I was neither thrilled nor disappointed by the Dosa preparation.
One thing which I felt is that the ingredients of food were good quality and the place was clean.
Ragi dosa was very expensive. Rs 100 per plate.
Sachin Muddappa
Good place for a meal. If you are a hard core non vegetarian but suddenly want to have limited veg food meal this is the place. Try the North Indian thali. Also if the food is served but got it would be better as there was soup which was cold......

But also not its crowded most of the times......

Service 3 / 5
Taste 4 / 5
Ambiance 4 / 5
Location 5 / 5
Swati Nandy
Did not like the taste of any of the things that I had ordered - idli, dosa and bhel puri - was very average and nothing extraordinary. Definitely isn't a must visit.
Akshay Anand
Opted for special thali, a very good experience. Crowded place, you'll be obliged to finish off quick. Ambience is good, good quality is awesome. Quantity is just right.
Shambhavi Kupasad
The food at this hotel has improved I must say. Looks like they've got a new set of Chefs. Visited this place for a quick dinner after ages. They've renovated the place, it looks decent now.

Earlier known for only South Indian delicacies but now they've really improved their North Indian menu as well. Everything I ordered was delicious. I really liked the Palak Kolhapuri gravy here though- it was sheer Spinach indulgence 😄.
Pros:
- Food is tasty (South Indian & North Indian)
- Service is pretty quick
- Light on your pocket

Cons:
- No finger-bowls

Vinay A.k.a Thindipotha - V!n@y!$m
Visited this place on a Monday morning at around 10:30 am, after hearing a lot of good things about the food here.
Started by ordering for a rava idly for myself and poori for my friend. The saagu was amazing , but the chutney was already spoilt. When this was pointed out, the manager duly obliged and bought us another bowl of chutney (this time, a different coloured one) and apologised. While my friend said the poori was good, the rava idly was not something to write about and was average.
I then ordered the masala dosa, while my friend ordered for a vada...again, the dosa was very disappointing and I've had better dosas even in north India !!
Disappointing and mediocre food surviving due to the location it is in!!
Taste: 2/5
Ambience: 2/5
VFM : 2/5
Will I go here again. I guess never

We made to share the table with other people as it was a peak time. Waiting time was high. Waited almost 30 mins and when food was served soup, starters and main course were served at once. It was too messy and congested due to the sharing of table. Also by the time we finished the starter, main course had become cold and kulcha was resembling rubber. The lady managing the things, was not at all bothered though we mentioned it. Service and managing were too disappointed. Overall experience was not at all good.

If Zomato has a rating lower than 1, would've definitely given it that
This place was recently renovated, so expected a certain level hygiene and quality, but what I got in the end left me stunned and disgusted
Went there last evening and ordered idly, vada and open dosa
As I was having the vada felt something weird in mouth, when I spat it out I found a giant insect(photo attached)
I don't need to say anything else about the place, except it can be really dangerous to your health
The staff was the least bit apologetic and wanted to take the plate away at the earliest, to avoid attention, but I did take a picture of it before they took it away
I heard there was a hygiene check a coupe of months ago and they didn't do well then, clearly things have not improved
Rather have food at a road side stall, you may get more hygienic food

Good for breakfast items but very unhygienic all plates, spoons glasses are not clean and very dirty. Place to sit and have food but average in taste.

Perfect for breakfast. I just love their sambhar served with dosa and idli. We love ordering their cheese dosa as well -sinful! Coffee is too strong for my liking

An old authentic South Indian restaurant, which serves the best south Indian food in locality.
Chandrika has been a landmark for years now and with the recent renovations that they have made, this place has only gotten better.
It is one of my favorite go-to places for lunch. They serve some yummy pure vegetarian south Indian meal. Their baby corn Manchurian, veg pulao, masala papad, lime soda, shahi paneer & stuffed kulcha is the most hearty lunch between work. This place is pretty good for breakfast & snacks as well. (The filter coffee & vadas) :)
The service is quick and food is priced reasonably. Overall, amazing place to quickly grab a bite on the go or to sit and have a complete meal.

Easy on pocket, well lit & neat place :)

Usually crowded at lunch hrs. Waiting time is around 30 mins. Palak masala, panner burji is really good. Karnataka style food is good. .....

This was one of our favorite restaurants in Bangalore. Used to have a retro look and delightful service staff. After the current renovation visited the place twice and was largely disappointed. Interiors are male glossy but service level has gone down. Food is 'awesome' and variety and price is unbeatable in that location. However miss the old 'service with luv'. The service staff have become mechanical and try to desell food items that will take time even during non-peak hour. Apart from that a must visit place.

A very old place serving authentic South Indian breakfast and lunch (both south and north)from last 2 decades.
For Breakfast have eaten on multiple
occasions the masala dosa,set dosa,rava
dosa and kaali dosa which were all
excellent. The vada is crisp. The bisibele bath and pongal are also mouth watering,
The South Indian and North Indian thali meals are also good in afternoon.
Breakfast costs Rs 150/- and lunch Rs 300/- for 2 people .
Their SIGNATURE DISH is VEGETABLE CUTLET which is just so yummmmm...
Their coffee is excellent
Parking limited for 2 wheeler only

I have visited this place several times as this is one of the few places in Bangalore where one can sit and be served. In a trend where eat-while-you-stand is becoming a norm for the middle class, this traditional facility is always welcome. Not having parking space is a major constraint for those who wish to visit this restaurant from afar. Quality of food does not match the high price. The hotel is not probably worried as there is no true competition in this area.

I ,my wife , Uncle n aunty had been to lunch this afternoon expecting good service n good vegetarian food on a Sunday afternoon but the service was pathetic and at last I asked for finger bowl he mentioned as not available later after we paying the bill he had given the finger bowl to a group of other people.. I found it not fair n it's discriminating I didn't like the gesture, service n food was delayed..

First time visit was on varalakshmi poja, the place was packed complete. management made to sit on sharing basis which is good idea during crowd. We ordered special north thali. The taste was excellent and worth the money...

Good to see a very old hotel..renewed and looks quite good...but it depends on how it will be maintained and taken forward...

Part of the place is going down...

Dinner was quite ok for a immediate and urgent stop over for the food..

But they can improve the place and make it better...

Parking not available at this place...

Nothing better than eating this hot cheese masala dosa with a super hot cup of coffee on a Thursday morning. The brilliance of the taste the dosa was just so so mouth watering that I could run short on words just describing it. A place, must visit just for the cheese masala dosa. :D

A good choice for South Indian food, especially bajji, bonda soup, dosa, rava idli and khichdi. These are my favourites here. The decor was modernised recently, giving the place a somewhat up-end ambience. They let you eat your food leisurely, which is a good thing.

When it comes to North Indian food, the cooks do make a good attempt, but fall short of achieving authenticity. Still, worth a try.

My dad has always raved about Hotel Chandrika for its dosas and filter coffee. I have tried this hotel a couple of times myself, and it does live upto it's expectations for their South Indian breakfast items.

The Rava masala dosa, among all the dosas definitely deserves a special mention. The Vada is served with the typical Karnataka style sweet, sour and hot sambhar that I enjoy. The Rava idlis are good as well. Filter coffee is as good as bangalore darshini coffee would be. Although the menu is huge, I would stay away from their Chinese/ North Indian items.

The ambiance has retro South Indian charm to it, nothing new or fancy.

You would often see Govt employees, local cops dining amongst the other localites during the peak meal hours. Hotel Chandrika seems to be the only reliable South Indian restaurant around this area for the longest time.

The service can be better, the staff seem to be in a hurry or not bothered unless it's a cop or an known customer they are dealing with. Service staff can be courteous, and the service can improve in the AC dining area which seems to run slow as compared to the other section of the hotel

One visit might might not convince you, but this place deserves all the hype it gets. A regular breakfast haunt, the chow chow bath and the masala dosa are beyond compare. Delicious breakfasts with one experimental item on the daily specials everyday - has me hooked!

The coffee is legendary and rightfully so. There was even a ginger variant of the classic filter coffee and it blended beautifully with the strong caffeine though one can hardly imagine it! Highly recommended for a quick breakfast.

Good Traditional South Indian Joint

This place on the hepp and modern Cunningham Road offers traditional South Indian Food. The South Indian Thali is very good. It comprises of Puri, 2 vegetables, chatni, pickle, curd, rice, rasam, sambhar, sweet and ice cream (available only in special Thali) The taste is good and authentic, although I would have loved to have one more vegetable dish and some better sweet dish. It's value for money for 150.
Variety in North Indian Thali is also more or less the same.
Dosa items are also upto the mark of any traditional joint.
The Ala Carte menu is also good spread has some kick ass Punjabi dishes as well.

The place is very crowded so you can expect some waiting time and shared tables.
