Review Sakae - Bengaluru

Kapotaksha Das
Very authentic Japanese cuisine that tastes lovely. The Sushi was a simply and delicious, while the Ramen broth was some the most heartwarming broths I have had in the city. This place is a must if you love Japanese food, and it's the added vibes such as the Japanese music and books that make the place all the more of an experience. Tables are a bit limited, so better have a reservation. Most tables are of a traditional low form factor, so might be a bit harder for elderly or physically challenged people. They do have two normal tables otherwise.

Very authentic Japanese place located in the hustle and bustle of the Double road in shantinagar! It has a contemporary japanese seating arrangements. The sushi and sashimi is really good, but what's even better is the price tag. 8pcs Uramaki just for ₹450/- !! Such Authentic and fine dining food with such an affordable price tag is a bliss. Not to forget the quality of sushi. However the service was a little slow but good food takes time to be prepared 😁

One of the best places to try out authentic Japanese cuisine. Absolutely loved them all. Prawn tempura and teriyaki chicken were the best. Also the chicken ramen was one of it's kind and very unique. They serve a welcome drink, known as "Mugicha" which was very refreshing. They also have a karaoke corner with every possible kind of songs. Enjoyed a lot. Good place for a group hangout. Highly recommended. ❤️👍

Very good ambience, there is floor seating and japanese music in the background. We can get mugicha (wheat tea) here. The vegetarian options are limited, but enough for a meal. The food is very good, although a little on the expensive side. The staff is very polite.

Food was delicious, staff was responsive, cool and clean room, but i can still see flies, that felt un-hygienic. A great Restraunt representing Japanese style food. I liked Salmon Sashimi, please do try that, when you visit.See the pics for the Yummy Treat!

Good authentic japanese restaurant. Food is good. You can have authentic japanese food. Place is good for non vegetarian. Sushi and corquette was great. But Ramen was not that great. That might because I had veg ramen. Lot of different japanese dishes is available there. But they have limited number of tables, so it's better to book table before going there.

This has to be one of the most underrated Japanese restaurant in town. Very old school decor gives old Bangalore vibes. The meat based food are top notch, even better then the well known Japanese restaurants in town. Please try their Ramen bowls as they are delicious. But they have stopped service Sake and other alcoholic beverages for quite sometime. So please be mindful of that.

Liked my first visit here. Nice set meals. Decent collection of Japanese manga. Update: I've been there a few times since then. While the service is a bit slow, the food is always rather good. The maguro and Hirame are not always available however, whatever is available, is usually good.

Food is decent, but was expecting better. Staff is very sweet and tends to all your needs. It's a cosy little diner best suited for private lunch or dinner with it's quite and peaceful ambience. They even have Japanese magazines, so if you are a Japanese language enthusiast, you can spend your time reading them while your food is being prepared. (It takes some time) They have a pretty good range of liquor too, from hard drinks to soft drinks.

Loved the food here. The food was fresh and yummy. The Wheat tea is a must have . Place is simple and nice. Price is a bit on the higher side . So you gotta plan before going to the restaurant.

Closest to the typical Japanese restaurant in Bangalore. Very calm environment. If you are trying sushi for the first time , don't miss to order salmon sushi. There's a book rack which has pretty good Manga collection.
Amruta Shanbhag
This place offers authentic Japanese ambience and food. Sushi's here one of the best in town.

Brilliant ambience and food is good. It's much cheaper than other sushi places but not as fresh. Still the food is good given the limited Japanese restaurants in bangalore that won't break your wallet. Being on the main road they have very limited parking space, considering they share the building with a hotel the parking space gets crowded pretty fast with only 4 or so cars that they can accommodate. There is no valet service as well. Ps:love the music Playlist that they play here.
Sabih Siddiqui
The food is really authentic. The ambience is really good. They seats are like Japanese ones but you can also sit like a chair on it. They offer origami , Manga and mugicha. You can give it a try for five authentic Japanese cuisine.
Vineeth
Very good japanese dishes at good prices. I would not say premium but they have a good variety and taste is good and items are fresh. Service is also very good.

It was the first time I tried Japanese food. The restaurant is certified Japanese by department of fisheries japan which means you get authentic Japanese food here. The atmosphere is cozy and you would listen to Japanese music playing. The menu is mostly in Japanese. The staff looked confused and it took some time for our order to be prepared but it was worth the wait.

Good food and hospitality

Horrible experience. We had to leave everything on the table. Couldn't eat anything. There was some foul smell coming from ramen. No stuffing in Dumplings. The staff was horrible, she doesn't know how to speak to customers.

Food and service were both a miss. Ramen noodles were over cooked so very soft. Didn’t bring one dish at all. 2 insects inside soy sauce container. Staff had to be reminded about same request multiple times. Need I say we had higher expectations
Johan
Food is okay. Ramen the worst I've ever had. Service sucks. The restaurant had a mid day closure and the staff didn't have the basic courtesy to wait for us to go out.<br/>they made me pay the bill before i could even finish eating and later asked us to leave the restaurant.

Delicious authentic Japanese food and a very serene ambience. Tried their free wheat tea and it is a perfect hot beverage to go with their dishes. Good service. Must try for someone who likes or wants to try Japanese food.

One of the best sushi bistro in Bangalore with authentic taste. It is easy to find and the interior of the bistro takes you to Japan literally.<br/>Parking would be a concern during peak times but the location is quite good at the heart of Bangalore. <br/><br/>To start with we ordered a bao basket and Sushi:<br/>Chicken Xiao Long bao - Good (4/5) - The taste was good but the soup was literally missing from the bun filling. As this is supposed to be soup dumpling hence we had expected some soup to ooze out when we have the dumpling. But as the skin was very thin and had broken .. all the soup had dripped out into the basket instead. So essentially we had dumplings instead of xiao long bao :) but then it melts in your mouth so I am not complaining<br/>Ebi Fry Maki Sushi - Excellent (5/5) - The best dish of the day. The wasabi and gari which accompanied with the sushi was nice. Gari or picked ginger (galangal mostly) is used to cleanse the palate between eating different pieces of sushi. It may however be consumed before or after the meal. The wasabi was not that strong and was bit diluted and smooth more to in tune with my taste. But then real wasabi is hard to get and expensive! <br/><br/>For the main course we wanted to give donburi and ramen dishes a try<br/>Chicken Misokatsu Don- Very Good (4.5/5) - Originally Misokatsu is generally juicy breaded deep fried pork cutlet however in our case its chicken served with don(sticky rice) and miso paste (Miso is a traditional Japanese seasoning produced by fermenting soybeans with salt and koji and sometimes rice, barley, seaweed - ref: Wiki) <br/>Chicken Ramen - Decent (3.5/5) - Probably the weakest of the dishes I tried today and the chicken portion was small compared to the portion of the dish.<br/>If you love Sushi and Onigiri then I will definitely recommend to give this place a visit at least once. <br/><br/>Ambience - 4.0/5 <br/>Quality - 4.5/5 <br/>Taste - 4.5/5 <br/>Value for Money - 4.5/5 <br/>Overall -4.5/5 <br/>Hygiene - Good<br/>Service - Decent<br/><br/>P.S: Do not keep expectations of a 5 star restaurant from this moderately priced bistro<br/><br/>Tidbits: Don't miss the complimentary Mugicha (Wheat Tea) - you might find it invigorating - it is made by roasting barley/wheat seeds, which gives it a mild and refreshing flavor.

A Japanese Stunner...!!!<br/>This one's real Japanese style restaurant. The seatings are just perfect like how Japanese usually eat in their homes.<br/>And the dishes are just delectable with no words to describe.<br/>This place sits just few mts away from Lalbagh garden and is a perfect hideout.<br/>Ngiri Sushis, Cold Soba Noodles, Maki Rolls are just perfect to make up your mood.<br/>Highly recommended...!!!

Terribly overhyped and mediocre service. The only good thing was the wheat tea that was free! I rarely hate sushi, but this was quite bad in all honesty. There now are definitely better places in Bangalore to try for Japanese food. Maybe not 5 years ago, but now there are. Wouldn't go back here!
Navneet Singh
Best place to have authentic Japanese food. Ambience as well is authentic. Best sushi in town. Menu is exactly as you would find in restaurants across Japan.
Satyaki Bose
Used to be one of my favourite Japanese restaurants at one point it's a shame to see how badly it has fallen.<br/><br/>Horrible Salmon Sashimi.. Bones were there in the fish. Buta Shogayaki was chewy and bad.
Karthik
Japanese to the core. Great ambiance, food quality top notch. 💯 authentic japanese food. Mastery on handling the chopsticks required to enter the place. Really loved the food (Arigato. Mata atode.)
Varun Raj
Blissful Japanese cuisine, ambience captured perfectly, every element fits one another very well giving a elegant look and even the Staff is amazing.
Ashoka Chandra Wardhan
Pretty great sushi, compliments to the chef. Chashu bao was melting in your mouth, it was so great. Their oyakodon was a culinary experience altogether. Their accompanient tea was pretty great.<br/><br/>Didn't like the yakisoba though, sadly they didn't have ramen available when I went there, which was a bit of a damper.<br/><br/>
Swati Kaikini Bakshi
Simple and No nonsense Japanese food. It's more like a Japanese Dhaba. Loved it every time I go there. Cleanliness could be improved a bit.. please work in the upkeep
Meghana Mudali
Amazing food! I had udon with tempura prawns. It's exactly like you would get in the streets of Japan. A must try if you want to have authentic Japanese food. Worth spending money here!

The good thing about this restaurant is the location. The hospitality is bland not very attentive to the customers they would be in thier own world. I ordered miso ramen and salmon maki.. the food was quite average. Now let me come to the worst part the air conditioner wasn’t working and mosquitos everywhere where I seated... please take a mosquito repellent so that it won’t suck your blood while having food....<br/><br/>Second time visited the place it’s gone downhill.. The staff isn’t friendly will be in their own world... AC wasn’t there lots of mosquitoes 🦟 which will create health problems.. I warn people who go with kids because I don’t want them to suffer... Food is below average I ordered chicken ramen and got only one chicken piece... I guess it’s time for them to shutdown... Worst restaurant..

Good place to visit. Don't remember exactly when I went there. But it's a good place to try for all Japanese food. Only ppl who are interested with Japanese food.

With South Bangalore not having any sushi serving restaurants, I was quite excited to try our the extensive menu at Sakae. Also, Hema Srinivas having been here before and absolutely having loved the experience, along with the several glowing reviews peaked my stomach pangs all the more. <br/><br/>The ambience is calming and set up similar to a typical Japanese styled sushi bar, with floor-level seating and in separate cubicles. Not that I didn’t enjoy it but the mood music I expected was more of flowing waterfalls or instrumental. Instead, it was hip hop that didn’t quite suit the entire set-up, but still quite enjoyable.<br/><br/>We ordered the crab meat roll, spicy chilli salmon roll, and pork ramen bowls. Although we wanted to order more, the extremely sloth-like service and waiting time between each dish just made us less hungry by the minute. The rolls were quite good which is why this place deserves at least 3stars. The ramen however was a bowl of cold soupy noodles with the egg yolk floating around and the pork didn’t sit well with the rest of the ingredients.<br/><br/>Maybe it was a rough day for the restaurant, and maybe I need to visit again to have a different take on the place, but the one experience I had wasn’t all that great!
Vårun H
Would not recommend.. we ordered chicken dumplings and we got cabbage filled dumplings.. no chicken was in it.. the staff are rude and it’s expensive as well. We never got the right order.. we ordered something and we got an entirely different dish.

Go only if you are really into trying Japanese food not at all recommended for a casual dining<br/>Overpriced and overrated.<br/>Food was a big turnoff<br/>We had to keep asking for water repeatedly which they'd give after keeping us waited for very long.<br/>Our AC was leaking and water was all over the seat<br/>Ambience is okayish nothing great<br/>Waiters can be more polite<br/>

I had made a reservation at 2 pm from Zomato and went to the restaurant. They informed me that the kitchen will accept the last order by 2.30pm so my friends and I (3 people) placed our orders by 2.20 pm. We were swatting flies by this time as many managed to enter the restaurant. The food was served in 10-15 mins and after about 5 mins into diving into the food, around 2.45 pm, the a/c was turned off and the hostess handed us the bill; we paid and continued to eat our meal. Then they started to turn off the lights in the restaurant and started glaring at us. The other patrons started to leave.  After a few minutes, we started hurrying and they turned off all the lights. The staff started to leave and we were alone with the security. At that point, we had had enough of this disrespect and we left. <br/>I really like Japanese food and anyone who has eaten it can say that it can't be rushed and has to be savoured. I would like to add that the food they served was delicious but it was a tremendously horrible experience because of the staff. If they did not want us there, they should not have accepted the order nor the reservation. A simple statement expressing that they're closing soon should suffice instead of meting out this sort of treatment.

It will give you a feeling as if you are in Japan. The food was delicious though it had very few veg options. The staff was very courteous and helpful.

An must try place for all the sushi lovers ! Even if you haven’t tried , you should ! The place gives you a true feel of Japan and it’s culture . The seating is very unique, Japanese music setting the ambiance and comics at the entrance.<br/><br/>Food - 5/5<br/>Maki , sushi roll , ramen and tempura. <br/><br/>Cherry on the top - the food is served with non stop wheat tea !
Subhajit Basu
Been a fan for quite some time now. However, the customer experience has exponentially plummeted in the recent past. Long waits accompanied with non functioning air conditioners, misinformed and arrogant servers and system issues in applying Zomato gold offers have and will continue to disappoint customers. The food is good but other things not so much. Not recommended for family visits, romantic dates or casual meet ups.
Sunayana Basu
Extremely bad service , the staff do not respond to your questions and will stare at you without any answers ! The first time I was here , I was impressed with their food but that deteriorated over time alongwith long wait time !Today I walked in at 2:15 pm with guests all the way from electronic City to be told that they were already closed! Their Zomato or Google page shows 3 pm , when asked they said ," yes we do close at 3 pm , but no walk in after 2pm!?" ...whatever that means ..<br/>Very disappointed and amused at how a place on a Saturday be closed by 2pm? To people coming here ,please calculate your time of travel , call them and ask if they will be open !!
Amit Chhajer
One of the decent price Japanese restaurant in Bangalore. The service is okish. Sushi are good. Ramen was nothing surprising. Yakitori is a good try here. No liquor served here.
Kshitiz
Has deteriorated quite a lot from my last visit. I could see quite a dip in the quality of food and also the waiters were not that responsive . Maybe that was because I had reached late, but they were literally making me feel like I should leave the place early so that they can go home early.
Tanisha
This place has a variety of Japanese and Korean food options. The cutlery and interior and serving style are all very unique and Japanese style. The food is good as well but you can get the same taste at a cheaper price tbh. It is very overpriced. If you want to experience Japanese style cuisine then this is the place you can go.
Neeloy Sanyal
Need work on portion sizes. I know its a Japanese things having eaten at various restaurants from around the planet.<br/>However, authenticity is the mark of a successful restaurant. I like that they are close to my house and the vibe is very old Bangalore meets Japan.<br/>Their miso is cut above the rest.

Our quest for some Japanese food nearby took us to Sakae, last week of April. <br/><br/>Ambience: The place is simple and there is nothing much to speak, in terms of the decor. But we definitely liked the low seated tables. One thing to mention is that the place can do with a wee bit of cleaning. The seats and the walls looked a little murky. <br/><br/>Food: I don’t know if it is the food or the place, but we weren’t much satisfied with the experience. We were a group of five + a toddler. No baby chair :( instant downer. <br/><br/>We ordered Fresh lime sodas, which were quite sour and tasteless. Definitely do not recommend it. Alcohol has been stopped apparently due to recent circumstances. They were supposed to serve wheat tea proactively, however, we had to specifically ask for it. The wheat tea was quite soothing. <br/><br/>There is not much of chicken to eat in their dishes, and of the 5-6 items, 3 weren’t there. So Chickenaterians like me didn’t have much to choose from. We ordered the Grilled Chicken with Teriyaki sauce, Grilled Chicken & Scallion skewer, Japanese fried rice, Japanese chicken curry and the Spicy Miso salmon roll. <br/><br/>The Chicken in Teriyaki sauce and the spicy Salmon roll stood out. <br/><br/>Service: The service was adequate, nothing to write home about. <br/><br/>Might not visit again, unless I plan on changing my mind to try Japanese again.

A nice place where everything makes u feel like u r in a japanese place :p great ambience for any anime fan / otaku. Even the seats are hybrid giving you a japanese feel as well as letting you sit down comfortably. And thanks for the complimentry wheat tea :D

Cute little Japanese joint for your Sushi cravings! The Ramen here is to die for! Ask them to serve you the pork separately to enjoy it fresh crispy and juicy in between your slurps!

I've been frequenting this place for a few years now.<br/>Always had a great experience w the food. Service was never their strong suit but it never really got in the way of out experience.<br/>However when I went there yesterday with my mother (who's vegan). We had a pretty bad experience. Service was slow and the staff didn't seem to pay attention to our needs. My mother very clearly specified at the beginning that she does not eat any non vegetarian products. She ended up recieving a dish that the staff said was tofu and ended up being egg based. Which we figured out after smelling/tasting it. When we brought this up the staff didn't seem the least bit concerned. Besides that the food was lacklustre and one of the dishes was served very late. They have loads of staff and a relatively small dining area so I don't know how they can be this inattentive and incompetent.<br/><br/>It's a shame, we really enjoyed eating here but will never go back again.

With those short legged tables and the music, the ambience definitely gives you a vibe about being in an authentic Japanese place. The mugi-cha served right after we were seated was very refreshing. Though I am not too fond of Japanese cuisine, but I really liked the sushi here. The tempura rolls were delicious too. I didn't like the ramen though. Overall it was a nice experience.
Prithvi Mandava
Sushi’s are very nice!! An aunthentic Japanese restaurant. Though the timings say till 23:00 the last order is at 22:00 and Zomato gold membership is a Paisa vasool do not forget to upload the bill on Dineout at the restaurant itself.

Really authentic food, loved the ambience. Super reasonable and pleasant service. Just loved it. Unfortunate no Sake .... but a must eat place
Mehak Oberoi
Hidden in the bustling streets of Shanti nagar this is place was surprise. They have a kind of Japanese seating with amazing food and the barley tea they served was just beautiful!

Sakae is a pretty small joint with rather quirky sunken tables & shoes-off policy emulating simple, traditional Japanese dining environment. We loved their Beef Rice Bowl & their Ginger Pork Rice Bowl. Chicken Karaage was okay. Skewered deep fried pork & onion was a little too greasy & oily for my taste, but then again, it's kinda my fault for expecting a deep fried dish to be low on oiliness. Slightly expensive, but definitely worth a visit.
Anika Eliz
Came here for lunch, loved the seating arrangements and ambience.<br/>Started with complimentary tea<br/>Ordered a salmon roll, very delicious<br/>And a crab and salad roll, also very delicious!<br/>Must try for when you have Japanese food cravings.
Siva
The place reminds me of a typical Japanese restaurant, small cozy, the ambiance is okay. The food is authentic, the sushi and the teriyaki chicken were excellent. Somewhat disappointed with the kake soba noodles. They could also incorporate a few more vegetarian options for the Indian palate.
Dion D'Sa
We love Japanese food and do find this place really a good option. The food is yum and being a Zomato Gold member gives the option of having an extra dish 😀<br/><br/>Alcohol: They has no alcohol. The staff said no stock. So we had to settle for some soft drinks. <br/><br/>Starters: <br/>Wheat tea - very subtle flavor and interestingly good. <br/>Salmon Sashimi - 7 pieces of really good fresh tasting sashimi<br/>Fried Squid legs - my personal favorite with fairly decent quantity for about 3 persons <br/>Salmon n cream cheese roll with capers - the cream cheese was not too flavorful and it was too bland for our liking <br/>Fried baby prawns - crispy, light, bland in a good way and goes great with the salt<br/><br/>Mains: <br/>Taiwanese Mazesoba - something that we always order and the reason we keep going back... Usually really good, but we didn’t enjoy it too much yesterday. There was something different about it in this visit of ours. <br/><br/>Desert: No idea what they had. Couldn’t find any on the menu but we were too stuffed to even ask for options. <br/><br/>Service: Painful. <br/>Expect no suggestions or explanations. When they take your order - expect no reactions from them so you don’t know if they’ve understood or not till the food actually arrives. I had to stand up to get their attention a couple of times as they all stand and chat all the way at the back and can’t see you unless you call out to them. This is the reason my rating is down from 4 to 3. <br/><br/><br/>Overall: Enjoyed the food and quantity. If you keep your expectations of service levels low, then you will be happy to go there. I still recommend a try. <br/><br/>
Live To Eat
This place is ridiculously bad, let me start by saying as we entered no person to guide us to the table as we had booked through Zomato.. apart from that we had to call each time to be served.. the service staff needs some training big time. Not once the staff came to the table we had to call each time.<br/>The food wasn't bad the ebi fry roll, fried Chicken and chilli ebi only the shogayaki ( pork ) could have been better.<br/>There were mosquitos flying around..and the place wasn't that clean that u would expect a high end Japanese restaurant to be.. very disappointing.
Dinesh Reddy
Really authentic Japanese food , with the right ambiance . And for who are vegetarian or who don't eat pork , ask before you order as many the Japanese dishes contain pork by default.<br/>
Shalmali Kamat Prabhu
Great place, polite staff, large menu options, amazing food. Sightly on the expensive side, but with Zomato gold it's less of a pinch! Recommended.
Biswajit Saha
Price is very high compare to the dish. nd mostly u don't know what u eat. Only the restaurant atmosphere and seating arrangement is good. One more thing, they still charge 10% service tax that's very cheap.
Jacob Cherian
Love this restaurant.. especially since it is extremely reasonable and delicious Japanese food. I'm a repeat customer for sure.. highly recommended.
Mridula Potdar
Not exactly a fan of Japanese food but this place has one of the best Japanese dining experiences.<br/>As a vegetarian there aren't many options but if you like seafood, you must try this place. Quantity is medium, ambience is good and the taste is authentic.
Shalu Mishra
The ambience of this place is so subtle.<br/>Love the place for that.<br/>The food is also good, especially the ramen. Have not had a better one yet.<br/>Even loved the teriyaki chicken<br/>The staff was extremely delightful.<br/>
Paulami Sil
The food is good but the quantity is quite less in comparison to the price.. overall the price is quite high.. when we reached the restaurant was empty, only me and my friends were dinning in their.. service was promoted, the menu was little difficult to understand.. the only problem was, I feel ill was the dinner, not sure, whether due to the quality of the food or due to the first experience of the Japanese cuisine which didn't suit me...
Mohit
Authentic Japanese cuisine n the only place nearby where I can have my favourite Sushi. But lately they r acting kinda weird. They denied Zomato gold just coz it was a festival... Lol what has it got to do with Gold?<br/>P.S it was Sankranti

A friend of mine who has lived in Japan for a few years recommend that I try the Sushi here and it's as close to authenticate food as one can get.<br/><br/>Minimlaistic decor, small yet spacious seating, polite staff who keeps to themselves and does not come poking around unless called. Although there is room for improvement as far as recommendation of food is concerned. They just will not suggest.<br/><br/>We were 3 people and had a light dinner, although now I wish I had more.<br/>- Starts off with a wheat tea (which is complimentary). It surprised me and I liked the flavor a lot.<br/>- sushi (salmon) and sushi (tuna)- loved it. Perfect blend of flavors, nothing was overpowering, not spicy, but the flavors were amazing.<br/>- chicken teriyaki- took me by surprise. The sauce ad the consistency of meat deserves a shout out. I'm not a major chicken fan, I was skepticism of ordering this dish. However, my friend forced me into it cause Japanese = teriyaki sauce and they didn't have any other meat in Teriyaki sauce. I enjoyed it. It's served with a side of noodle cabbage (I think). You should dip that in the teriyaki sauce and devour.<br/>- pork Ramen- Delicious af. The soupy base was mind blowing.<br/><br/>My only complaint here is, the ramen lacked meat. There was exactly one medium sized pork piece. I think a dish requires more meat if it has to qualify as a meat dish. I would have given a 5 star of there was more pork in the Ramen.<br/><br/>Additionally, they accept Zomato Gold on food. So yay! This was one of the governing factors for narrowing on this restaurant over the others.<br/><br/>

One of my favourites- comfy Japanese food and great variety! I also like the seating arrangement. I love starting my meal with some Mokcha too. I wish they served real Sakae though :)
Kunwarmeet Singh
It was my first time at any Japanese restaurant and I wasn't disappointed. It was a good experience. The staff is polite and courteous. They speak English and Japanese. The food was nice and tea was great.

This place serves authentic Japanese food at reasonable rates. It has a minimalist decor with option of low seating area and regular chair seating.<br/>The menu was both in Japanese and English with a lot of options to choose from.<br/>To start with they serve you a welcome drink - Mughicha tea(Wheat tea) which is said to be healthy.<br/>Service was quite slow. The waitress took ages to come to our table to take the order. We had to repeatedly call.<br/>We ordered <br/>•Miso Soup- I loved it!!<br/>•Futomaki (crab roll)-with eight pieces this was quite filling. And it was good. <br/>•Beef Yakisoba- classic Japanese Chowmein- stir fried noodles with beef and veggies , and seasoned with herbs.<br/>Overall the food was good. The said part was they do not have any dessert.<br/>And again the Service needs to get better.<br/>
HM
The food is authentic. Sushis are nice and our place to go for sushi cravings. Tempura is good too.<br/>The speed of service has become much better. They have a much more professional menu and service now than earlier.<br/>But the prawn in tempura was not de-veined. The torenegima had a foul smell.<br/>Always check before you visit them. Someone's they don't have salmon, noodles, or any sushi altogether.<br/>But there has been a huge improvement in the speed of service.
Dipyaman Choudhury
Great dining experience, Courteous staff.<br/>I'd been there with 3 of my friends from work, ordered the classic Sushi, salmon rolls and Sake<br/><br/>P.S Don't forget to try the Japanese Sake. They are beaut
Abhishek Barua
Amazing food. Authentic Japanese. The ambience was also good and the seating arrangement was really nice. But, the downside was that they did not even ask for water and for any little thing you have to keep on standing and calling out to reach one of their staff. Which was really an irony when they took a service charge of 10%. Rest all is ten on ten.
Rohith Murugeshan
Very traditional ambiance, gives out that authentic Japanese lifestyle and their extravagant cuisine. Very humble service provided by the staff members. Had a great experience overall.

Ramen for lunch! @sakaebangalore I’m in love with your menu. So a heads up to all oriental fans, the food here is authentic and is cooked just about right however, the flavours can get a little bland if you have a palette for spicy food. #honestreviews #orientalfood #asian #asasianasitgets #bangalorefood #bangalorefoodie #dishiidish #ramen #slurpslurp

Visit only if you have Zomato gold or if you are a true Japanese cuisine fan ! This place located on a busy main road of Shanthi Nagar is an authentic Japanese restaurant ! The seating is beautiful just like how we see in Japanese movies ! First we were served a wheat tea to detox our body which was mild and refreshing ! Since this was our first time eating Japanese food ... we dint know what to order and the staff TRIED to help us out ! We ordered the prawn sushi , the miso chilli sushi and the prawn tempura ! The prawn sushi was okay but the prawn tempura is a MUST TRY ! Since this was our first time with raw sushi and sushi is a taste you acquire with time we clearly dint enjoy it and I felt disgusted eating raw fish ( clearly being our first time ) realised Japanese cuisine is not meant for us ! The prices are pretty high and food is mediocre in quantity ! It was not the right place to start our journey is all I can say ! <br/>Rating : <br/>Service : 4/5 <br/>Food : 3/5<br/>Staff and hygiene : 4/5 <br/>Value for food : 3/5

The ambience is really nice. You'll get the feel of a proper Japanese restaurant. Although food could have been better. Do ask for Japanese tea.

This is the best sushi in Bengaluru hands down! The rolls are sumptuous and decently priced, and they taste heavenly. The ambience is very pretty as well, and you do genuinely feel like you're in an authentic Japanese restaurant

Food was delicious, just the quantity was less. All these costed me total 2.7k. I was only dissapointed by the service time. But I would like to visit again.<br/>

This is truly the best Japanese restaurant in bangalore. Outstanding quality and array of options. The buck wheat noodle is broth is called something — simply 5 star or more . Especially after eating the same in Tokyo this place was at par with the original . The only issue is service slow.

Excellent and authentic Japanese food. I rarely give a 5-star rating but these guys definitely earned it. Try the salmon sashimi and just about any of their sushi rolls. You'll love it.

I had been obsessed with trying out Japanese cuisine, so we went to sakae. I was a little apprehensive as I don't really like cold food or seafood. But I enjoyed the experience. Loved the mogucha that they served at the beginning of the meal. We ordered mushroom roll, teriyaki chicken meal and noodles. Everything tasted good. Loved the teriyaki sauce and miso soup. Would definitely visit again.

The menu in the dual languages of Japanese and English looked intriguing.<br/><br/>I had wanted to try the Beef tongue dishes but was vetoed down. So we settled for their Sashimi and Sushi dishes. The variety was absolutely amazing.<br/><br/>The seating arrangement was sunken. It made a slightly uncomfortable getting in and getting out process. But that in fact added to the experience. The staff seemed a little lost due to crowd I guess as every table was occupied.<br/><br/>Starting with the Miso soup, it added the right start to the dinner. The spicy chilli salmon roll was unexpectedly spicy so be careful when ordering that as it is deceptive. The Futomaki/Crab roll was very good. The Honey Mustard Chicken roll had a sweetish tangy flavor. And the Tempura Roll cream cheese has a nice crispness with melting cheese.<br/><br/>If you can be adventurous there are more dishes to try. I mean to on my next visit.

My tryst with Japanese food started with the first sushi platter that I tasted in Seattle. Really loved the taste and going forward was hooked to Japanese dishes. So whenever I get a chance, I try to find out Japanese eateries to try out. When I looked at Sakae, they have high ratings on Zomato, which built up my interest.<br/><br/>On visiting the place, the ambience gave a feel of japanese restaurants with floor seating etc. However, what disappointed me was the quality of the place. They could have done so much with the ambience but somehow they haven't invested at all on the experience of the patrons.<br/><br/>Now coming to the menu options, some great authentic options were available when it comes to maki roll, sashimi and onigiris. Amazed by the detailing on the menu, but again some of them were in only Japanese language, specially the 'special' menu. Expected is that English translations should be provided. However that isnt a major roadblock, thanks to Google Translate.<br/><br/>Finally, the taste of the food. Very authentic. The sushis were near perfection. The ramen that I ordered was a huge dampener though. It was high on salt and was really dry on the palate. So again the experience was a bit marred by that. Apart from that the pork and cabbage sizzler was good. It's recommended but not very highly. You can have a better experience at some of the other Japanese eateries on St Marks road.<br/><br/>Thanks for your time to read through my review. If you find it interesting, please follow me on Zomato. :)

Craving for some authentic Japanese food? Sakae is the place to be at! Excellent Oriental cuisine. Order anything on the menu and I can assure you that you won't be disappointed. Zomato gold is another plus here. 😊

If you've got a palate for Japanese food, this is one of the best in Bangalore. They serve authentic food. It is a bit expensive, but not without quality and taste.<br/><br/>Being vegetarians, we ordered the set meals. The soup was delicious as were the croquettes. Apparently, the rice has to be eaten plain, but I ate it with some soy sauce.<br/><br/>Service was very friendly.<br/><br/>There is no parking there, though. DO NOT listen to the guy who prompts you to park on the road. He is not from the restaurant.<br/>We were fined by the police and had to struggle to park elsewhere. I won't be surprised if he's working with the police to make some easy money.<br/>

Love the ambience in the restaurant. The whole seating arrangement really gave me the feel of an authentic Japanese restaurant. <br/>The food is really good too. I would surely visit the place again. <br/>I feel the ladies working in the restaurant could be a bit more friendly but then it may be neglected coz of its amazing food and ambiance. <br/>Give a 8.5/10 in total if anyone asked me for it.

One of the best Japanese place for Vegetarian too though with limited choices. Sakae, the beverage and other drinks are on the expensive side for that location and ambience.

First, superb food. Really, really, good, authentic food. Probably better than Harima.<br/>But terrible service. Getting a waiter to the table took 15mins every time we wanted to order something.<br/>Plus they agreed that they are zomato gold food partners, and (the waitress) activated the Gold for that day's meal personally on my phone.<br/>Then, despite ordering 8 full dishes of food (plus beer), they only gave us a bottle of water as free under the Gold program.<br/>This is, by zomato's own policy, absolutely wrong. But they refused to abide by the rules, though I showed them the Gold page.<br/>Zomato customer service was of snotty no help either.<br/>I can't think of any other word than "cheat". I am happy to replace it if a better one is suggested.<br/>At the end, this just ruined the meal for us. Better that they had just refused to honor the Gold program.

Absolutely loved the place. So much so that I visited four times in two months. It's very fresh and the staff is very polite. If you love sushi or you're trying to develop a taste for it this is the best place to start.

I am really not a great fan of japanese food, but just decided to try this place. Got an authentic japanese experience here with great food. But it's quite expensive for the ambience, service offered here..
Shruti
We went there and the place was empty.. we were asked to take off our shoes before entering the place and the seating was different and we liked it.. we ordered prawn tempura which was really good, then we ordered japanese chopsuey which was tasty again too.. but the chicken fried rice had a disgustingly weird taste.. we just got it home and tried to fix the dish, but it couldn't be eaten at all..the service was also really really slow.. so enter there only if u have lots of spare time on your hand.. don't think would visit there again

This place serving very good food especially their shusi are really good . But the problem is service service people are not attentive at all. Lack of knowledge lack of communication<br/>The worse parts is I asked for spicy salmon shusi when I placed the order I asked the service person is it gonna be spicy they said medium spicy I don't think they know meaning of that medium spicy .when we took a 1 St bite it was terrible spicy and it was burning from inside .<br/>The main thing is we tried many Japanese restaurant but this is first time this much spicy we tried .

If you are looking for some spicy or some flavour packed dishes, this isn’t the place for you.if you’re a first timer and you’re expecting the food to be related to Thai or Korean, you’re going to be disappointed.the food I had very bland.and the service was really bad.they don’t take your order or acknowledge your presence at all.the people who take down your orders aren’t even aware of what is available and what isn’t.for every dish I ordered the lady kept going back and coming for each dish to check if it’s available.overall, wasn’t a great experience.

Great ambiance , good service and excellent food just a little expensive but I guess that has to be expected for any exotic especially Japanese food anyway .

This is where I found a new love for the Japanese cuisine. They served the authentic Japanese food and my favourite would be the Gyu Saikoro Steak. The steak was tender, juicy and delicious. And the other dishes were satisfactory too. They have a very simple yet friendly ambience and the staffs were courteous enough to explain the details about the dishes and suggested their favourite dishes as well. The overall experience was highly satisfied and definitely would recommend for others to try out this restaurant as the price is fairly reasonable as comparing to the others.
Rakshith Pai
The most authentic Japanese restaurant in the city in my honest opinion and offers a wide variety of Japanese dishes which aren't based from the western influence. You must try the Tienshaan, Ramen, Taiwan Mazesoba and the Chilli Salmon Roll. I'd suggest if you have Zomato Gold to go right away as it's a good deal for anyone craving for some good Tempura or Sushi. Arigato Gozaimasu 🙏

Welcome drink was a Mugicha - a wheat tea known for its traditional use to help detoxify and improve digestion. <br/>The seating was quite interesting. <br/>They have a variety of sushi’s, the whole and only reason we went there. We ordered the Spicy Miso Salmon Roll and Ebifry Maki (Prawn Fry). Both were excellent. Each dish was served with 8 pieces of sushi. Quite filling I must say. The Ramen was alright but was not for my pallette. Yakisoba (Japanese Chowmein) had a variety of flavours. Service can be a little slow at times, but overall it was a nice experience.

Pleasant ambience, service could be better by providing help with ordering and giving suggestions. We ordered miso soup, ebi, Japanese fried chicken, Pork Gyoza, tuna cucumber maki rolls and salmon maki rolls. Food definitely deserves full stars, only suggestion to management is to check the Gyoza as it turned out dry in the inside. Overall a good experience and a must visit for all Sushi Lovers.

As soon as you enter the place you get a full on Japanese ambience. We ordered fried squid, chicken with molten cheese, salmon sushi and chicken and pork ramen. All of them tasted good and they were served fresh and hot. They also served complimentary mugicha (wheat tea). The only issue I had was with the servers. They had to be called over and over again to take our orders and sometimes they even ignored us. Overall one should go her to get a typical Japanese experience.

We went to Sakae as we wanted to try Japanese Cuisine and we had a great time. We ordered the Spicy Chili Salmon Roll and the Tempura Prawn to start with and the Prawn was very tasty but the Sushi is an acquired taste, something that most people would not find tasty. We then ordered the Chahan, Yakisoba and Ramen and we found them too be very tasty. Overall, it was a good experience and if you like trying out different cuisines, it is a must visit.

In the search to satiate my craving for sushi, stumbled upon this lovely restaurant which turned out to be a stone throw away from home. This place has more personality than most people I know. Highly recommend the sashimi. A gem of a place that more people need to try out.

Nobody was at the front desk when i arrived. They just said the restaurant was full.. Nothing more. Enquired about waiting and then they said sure, but they didn't know how long it would take... Very weird place
Prerona Kaushik
Very authentic. I love the tea that they serve as welcome drink. And sushis are amazing. Especially prawn sushi. And there are not much options for vegetarians though.

A complete waste of our time. We came on saturday with reservation but told there were no tables available when we came. Were asked to sit on a makeshift seating area at the entrance. When we refused to sit there, the regular table became available all of a sudden.<br/><br/>This was just the start of our bad experiences. No Sushi rolls available, no fish available, no sake (the japanese rice wine) available. They are out of everything!<br/><br/>What's the point of coming to japanese restaurant when none of the important stuff that gets ppl to japanese restaurant is available?

<br/>First time tried Japanese food and it was awesome. rolled eggs and teriyaki chicken were the best Also the fried prawn shrimp. Tried to use chopsticks so many times but failed😂. Ramen was also good but it could have been more better. After food we went for karaoke and it was the most awesome experience. Very happy that my friends liked it.Must try.

It is a must try for an amazing Japanese dining experience. We ordered the veg tempura, miso soy soup, kake-soba, Yakisoba, mushroom sushi, salmon cream cheese sushi and tuna mayo roll. And to be honest none of the dishes disappointed us. In my opinion they have the best wasabi in Bangalore!!!<br/><br/>The best part...you get unlimited refill of the Japanese tea (Mugicha).<br/><br/>

This restaurant has a total Japanese ambience. The food is authentic and beautiful. I loved every bit of it. Will visit soon again with my friends. Japanese are working here to serve and cook

Best authentic Japanese food in town! The ambience, food and service is brilliant. We had a great time here about 2 weeks back.<br/>We tried the Onigiri, Salmon Sashimi and Tempura Roll for starters. For had Ramen for the main course. They also serve free Mugicha (Japanese Wheat Rice) that increases your appetite exponentially. In all, it was a 'sugoi' experience. Arigato Gozaimasita Sakae!!
