Review Amruth Vegetarian - Bengaluru

Aravind S
Located in the ground floor, surrounded with trees and leaves. One awesome veg restaurant to strive for breakfast, lunch , snacks and dinner. And most importantly, prices are reasonable and cheap!! One plain dosa and coffee costs you ₹50

Surprisingly good food. Very low key and cheap but really good food.
Rishab Kannambille
Delicious food. North Indian Meals were surprisingly good. The quality of food was also very good. No problems in service either. Good for quick bites and for lunch / dinner. I recommend this place!

Great little place, that many have told me, has been in existence for a long time now. I always try the rice bath, masala vada and curd rice for lunch and usually eat the standard Idly vada for breakfast. Service is fast, Food is tasty and quantities are just right.

Good quality good and rite out of food is served. But long waits and if hav to put ketchup hav to ask and wait till dey get it in cup(for outside eating). Cleaning the table is slow and averagely maintained

It's dirty hotel.. they don't wash dishes properly.
Arrogant cashier (not all).
Don't give respect to customers.
Price of food items is more compare to other hotels nearby.

Food was good.I Specially enjoyed the Rava Dosa. The food made here is very hygienic and they serve pretty fast.i wish they had something in fish as I know they would make it well.
Ajo Koshy
Nice ambience, but the food is average. We ordered veg do pyaza, roti and gobi Manchurian. The Manchurian had a burnt aftertaste the first time, which we got replacement for. The second time too wasn't great. But the veg do pyaza on the other hand was pretty nice. Needs improvement..

Amruth is my first love under the category of South Indian restaurant. I use to visit this restaurant almost every day when my work place was at St Marks road. Its been a while i had been to Amruth, but felt the need to rate this restaurant, as it use to serve yummy breakfast during my working days.
Simple Idly and Vada is so good and perfectly combined with coconut chutney and mouth watering sambar (after Adigas ;) ) They also serve very good Rawa Idlis and Masala Dosas. Filter coffee served is one of the best in Bangalore.
The ambiance is simple Darshini style and there is also seating available. The service is good and the cost is reasonable. Would love to go back soon!

For my 75th review it was lunch at the antiquated Amruth Vegetarian.

Entering into the Bangalore time machine and stepping foot in the restaurant, one could be fooled into thinking you were back in the 1970s. It is the quintessential old school diner with equally old down to earth food. Idlis, dosas, roti subjis, mammoth metal water machine complete with metal beakers.. the list goes on. Always amazes me the speedy and agility with which they dispatch your food coupons after paying and have the food in front of you in a matter of seconds. Kitchen and sales run like a well oiled machine.

Uncomplicated wholesome food with an emphasis on taste over surroundings. I really liked the high tables outside - just stand and scoff with abandon. Sadly only one picture as I was too busy getting my hands into the food!

Like / follow / write
Scottishnathan91@gmail.com

The underground restaurant is quite popular for South Indian breakfast and does get crowded in the mornings. Good tasty idlis and vadas, piping hot khara and kesari bhath... Apparently the afternoon meals are also good, the typical South Indian affair, cheap and wholesome. Thing is, if you don't, for some reason, want to go to MTR just a few yards away, then Amrut will serve the purpose.
Sanaaz R Doust
Been visiting this place since ages now- good for South Indian food. Though they have competitors like MTR and konark in the vicinity, nevertheless their food is good too
Adithya Kabbal
Amruth, it's one of the old hotels and above average place. The food is tasty, hygienic needs to pay attention or probably it's old and lost its charms, doesn't looks like they are concern about maintaining the place.

Its a cool south indian and north indian cuisine restraunt.. Dont get dissapointed by the ambience or people flocking inside especially during weekdays.. The food here is really good and fulfilling. Service is good and courteous. Pricing is reasonable...
Raghuvinder
Going there for many years for Kadhai Paneer and Assorted Naan.
It's Yum.
Ambience is :-((((
But given the price that they sell food at, it's worth it :-)
So if you are really hungry and you wanna be easy on your pocket, this place stands out.
Karthik (Khit_32)
Out of the box food point in this street.. Not for food or glamour, but for simplicity of a darshini in a regular restaurant. Wonderful south Indian delicacies. The meals are sumptuous for one. The disappointment was the pudhina baby corn manchurian. The mango milkshake was a cool finisher.
Monami Mukherjee
Authentic south food is available here. Do not expect ambience and all. In fact no place to stand and eat even, so much rush! Actually this is the only place in that area that servers good and tasty meals/ snacks which is not out of reach. Idly, ghee roast dosa, kesari bath are my favourites here. The coconut chutney is unparallel, better than MTRs.
Notjustfandb
One of the most consistent places appart from chalukya in bangalore, been going here since I was 12, some staff are still the same, basic ambiance, home style service, very humble low profile waiters who ensure you are looked after. The paneer butter masala, Gobi Manchuri and naan is awesome, your typical "darshini" style flavours. Over all nothing gourmet about it, you daily eating place, if your Arround that part of the world recommend you go there for lunch, try the North Indian thali. In the end a neat and clean place with good food incase your on a budget do not hesitate to go here !!

You are on St marks road and looking for pocket friendly place for breakfast ,
Located opportunity to cotton girls school basement for nahar heritage

Yummy crispy dosa
Sandeep Kasal (Insta:@kasalsfoodsprings)
This hotel is located in St. marks road in basement of nahar hotel building.
Both service and self service is available here.
About food , U can't expect more here as more items are south Indian that to during breakfast time. And at lunch and dinner both South & North Indian items are available.
I have tried Idli wada along with chatni & sambar and Kharabath. Both i liked very much, but kharabath is more taster.

At Lunch, have tried both South and North India thali, its ok with minimal items.

At evening, have tried chats - Bhel puri and Pani puri. It was normal, u can't expect more as chats are prepared by any staff.

Price is average and here in this area, one among the hotel where prices are less.

Enjoy your fooood..

One of the veteran restaurants on St mark's road Amruth has been a well known hangout for tons of people over the years. It also has a wing where the service is super quick. The pongal / vada / masala dosa and chutney are the star productions here. Coffee is very good too.
Shubham Jhuria
One of the few south Indian restaurants which enjoy a nice ambience. Fast service coupled with good food usually leads to happy customers and Amruth has been able to pull that off.
The sambar is absolutely lip smacking and goes well with an idli or masala dosa.
Abhilash K Subash
A place which serves consistently good South Indian food.

Daily meals destination for people working in and around St. Marks Road.

I suggest the executive meals for INR 60, as a part of which, you can chose between 2 chapatis or 1 rice bowl and bisibelebath or pulao.

If you are not in the experimenting mood try Amruth.
Susmitha Veganosaurus
One of my favourite little nooks to visit for South Indian food. Love to sit there by myself and enjoy masala dose while reading a book.

Polite staff, tasty food, decent simple ambience.

Amruth is neat and clean vegetarian restaurant. Good and cooperative staff and very healthy and hygienic food.

They serve South Indian, North Indian, Chinese and Chats. At afternoon try the South Indian Meals its very nice. Most of the dishes are good.
Jaswanth
Decent South Indian place. Almost covers every South Indian dish. Ambience is okayish. Always crowded. Try their filter coffee. Decent prices. Service is slow. Never try North Indian here.
Guna Prasaad
Food was good but not as much as others have mentioned - may be because I went very late. The ambience is good. They even provide cheap north and south Indian thalis. The north Indian thali was just fine.
Dr Yashaswini K
Never really stepped into the restaurant as my friend used to get take away :D
The authentic south Indian food which is yummy and mouth watering!! The masala fose and onion dose are d best and with trying. Sadly they are closed on Sundays :-\
Tejas Deshpande
Wow... the south indian here is fabulous. And the idli texture is something else.. best that my toungue has ever romanced. Quite affordable too. Not to be missed. After all, even if youve had a meal already, how space do 2 silken idlis need anyways :)
Paul Avijit
Amruth is a regular destination for my daily meals. Clean ambience, good staff conduct and very healthy and hygienic food.
They serve south Indian to north Indian, chats to Chinese veg food but what I love the most here is is south Indian meal. U get options to choose roti or puri and there is a new menu everyday. So I recommend you Amruth as a try no harm place. Wonderful veg!
Anubhav
What wonderful food! Good folks. Delicious paneer butter masala and veg makhanwala with butter naans. Great chaats too. And the local cuisine, awesome!

Could you believe it that this restaurant is in existence for quite some time now and continues to serve till date withstanding all the modern joints that have opened in the vicinity. Their patronage has not lowered. Another gem if you are looking for a good south indian or a basic north indian food.

This has a self service wing as well as a service restaurant. Can get cramped though. We have had

1. Idly vada – excellent though idly is not very soft. The vada is quite crispy

2. Masala Dosa- Good can be oily sometimes

3. North Indian - Roti Dal Palak are good and served hot.

Since the place is quite small it is quite cramped though. Juices are also good though slightly expensive. I have also had the south thali which is real value for money. Highly recommended for a VFM meal

Overall:

Quality: 4/5

Taste: 3.5/5

Ambiance: 3/5

VFM: 4/5

Somehow I missed to write review for this beautiful good old restaurant which is located in St. Marks Road. This restaurant use to be my regular place for breakfast when I was in Commercial Street. This is a typical darshini with regular south Indian dishes for breakfast and for lunch there will be north Indian as well. This is located near SBI main branch in St. Marks Road.
Ambiance: They have typical 90’s cozy ambiance with Indoor, Outdoor and AC dining area. Indoor they have High Tables to have your quick breakfast and I feel AC dining area is apt place for long lunch. This is one of the darshini’s with good and decent crowd.
Taste: One must try their Idly Vada, South Indian Pulao and Poori Saagu. Bonda soup is one of the favorite dishes for Bangaloreans and tastes great here with the hot soup over here. Coffee is as good as MTR & Vidyarthi Bhavan. Taste is just amazing till date.
I tried their Mini south Indian meals as well which is quite affordable with nice quantity of rice, sambar, palya and rasam. If you are a Bangalore style south meal lover, you must try here.
This is again a best value for money restaurant and price for two will never exceed 200 rs for breakfast.
I strongly recommend this place for south Indian breakfast.
Overall:
Quality: 3.5/5
Taste: 3.75/5
Ambiance: 3.5/5
VFM: 4/5

Typical Darshini kind of hotel nestled in the basement of a building(diagonally opposite Moti Mahal complex) on St.Mark's Road. Has a typical buy your tokens-collect your food- find a place-eat and get out sort of setting up front, and an AC serviced restaurant section at the back. My most frequented place in this part of the town as I used to work close by. Known for South Indian dishes(although they serve North Indian dishes for lunch and dinner) and Chats in the evening(post 4PM). If you visit this place for breakfast - I usually would recommend Vada with Sambar or Dhai Vada(Dahi Vada is usually available after 9:30AM) followed by Masala Dosa or Rava Dosa followed by a dose of South Indian Filter coffee.

The Lunch and Dinner are typical South Indian/North Indian Thali kind of deal although you can go for Ala-Cart options off the menu. Is usually crowded most of the times on weekdays for B/F and lunch while if you hit this place for dinner, it is usually peaceful. A no non-sense value for money deal when it comes to Vegetarian food - at least in this part of the town.

If you haven't tried it, give it a try - worth a shot and you will not regret.

My triangular love affair with idly sambar and chutney started here way back in 2006 and still going strong. Rava dosa n rava idly is must try. Ask for vada dipped in bisi bisi sambar and I m sure you wud want more. Great place great service !!!!

Decent masala dosa. Chutney could have been less watery though!

Nice lil cosy joint tuck away from the normally busy St Mark's Road. Extremely good filter coffee in this part of town rivaling even MTR slightly down the road! Has decent idli/upma/dosa routine and serves chaats in the evenings. Typical efficient Darshini. Ambiance is cosy with an option to sit on high stools inside for self service or stand at one of those tables outside. There is a sit down area as well. Have not tried the sit down menu in the AC Hall, will do that soon. But good to have a quick bite if you are in the vicinity. Not easy to spot, it is on the basement level, bang opposite SBI from the other end. Behind Oh Calcutta.

Another lunch place close to our office, Amruth offers a decent variety of simple eats, both North and South Indian. It has both a standing area of a regular darshini as well as seating area inside. The ambiance literally screams at you to eat quickly and go because thats what Amruth's philosophy is.
We usually order the rawa idly and masala dosa if we are in the mood for south indian; or go the executive thali for North. The food arrives quickly, is not heavy on spices or oil so can be consumed regularly, and is light on the pocket. An added bonus is their filer coffee which we like a lot.
Overall, one of the good VFM places on st. marks road.
The Food Guy
A good place for South Indian food and a decent place for north Indian food. This would be how I would summarize Amruth.

Being close to office, I have visited this Amruth multiple times. Their dosas are very tasty even though oil is on the higher side. I like both the plain and masala dosa. The vadas are crispy and goes well with the chutney. Both the south Indian and north Indian meals are filling and provide you with both rice & roti. In addition, I love their Chole Masala. It does not taste like a typical north indian one, but it goes extremely well with their Kulcha.

The service is fast, tables are clean and price is very reasonable. One more thing to look out here is their filter coffee. I love to start my mornings with a hot cup of this coffee.

This one's located on the busy St. mark's road, in the basement. It has got two serving areas, one is the outside where you stand / sit on high stools around the high tables and go for a quick bite. There's a separate seating area inside which is air-conditioned and more suitable for longer meals. Good place for a quick lunch or dinner. Serves both North Indian and South Indian thalis.

Apart from that, it's a really good place for south India breakfast or evening snacks. A variety of dishes ranging from idli, vada, bhajji to bhelpuri, dahi puri, chat. They have quite a few juices and milk shakes in their menu as well which are really good.
The filter coffee is brilliant. So is the masala dosa / rawa dosa. This place is total value for money.

Today I ordered Idli sambhar for Amruth which I usually order for my breakfast every day.

But I found a Big ant in the sambhar coz of which I did not had the sambhar though I am paying extra for the sambhar and had to eat idli with Chutni only and once I started having that the chutni also had hair in it so I had to eat the idli plain only without sambhar and chutni.

We all do expect the quality and hygienic food. Please make sure it doesn't happen next time.

Thanks,
Divya Gupta

first visit to Amruth was in 1992.As boarders at Bishop Cottons,it was a favourite hangout.their sambar is unique..delicious ofcourse!gobi manchurian with gravy along with butter naan used to be a treat before we went on vacation.cone shaped plain dosas.consistent with quality.brings back old memories.

I would recommend this hotel for two reasons:

1) North Indian mini thaali - Roti,Curry, two rice servings n plain papad 65-70rs
2) North Indian Meals - Masal Papad,Soup,Roti/Kulcha/Naan, Curry, two rice servings, Sweet, ice cream 160-170rs.

These two are the best food in Amruth though on the higher side worth a try. This is one of the reasonable hotels in its vicinity.

Amruth was an old favourite of ours when we were still in school. It offered some pretty decent south indian darshini style food with tasty dosas good idlis and a pretty good bisse bille bhath. It was also the only other option in the vicinity apart from Airlines if you wanted some Tiffin items (idli, vada category) as they are known.

Over the years though i have noticed the food here has dropped considerably in quality the dosas are flaccid rather than crisp and sometimes slightly undercooked. The idlis in an attempt to be soft can be gluggy and raw. The chutney lacks any flavour and is just spicy and watery. you would probably be better off making a detour to the nearby Konark or even Airlines for better food.

Basically Amruth survives because its cost efficient and in close proximity to a ton of offices in the Central business district area where many a price conscious office goer needs to watch his daily lunch budget.

Pros: - low cost

Cons: - Food quality has been dipping consistently

1. Location: Amruth is located in the basement level of the building right next to Oh! Calcutta on St Marks Road.
2. Ambiance: Its one of those proper Bangalore restaurants that has the standing tables at the front and just outside the restaurant, and a proper "AC Dining" section inside. The ambiance is alright, but nothing special
3. The Food: I used to have my breakfast regularly at Amruth until a while back, and they had some excellent idli/vada category food. I am not using the term South Indian, because that is such an ill fitting term. Their masala dosas are brilliant (I would recommend getting it packed for take away, since they give the non watery chutney which is excellent). Their vadas are also quite good. In the evenings you get some nice bajjis. Their north Indian fare is okay, and is a good place for a nice cheap lunch.
4. Value for Money: Like most of the restaurants in it's category, Amruth is pretty good value for the money you spend.
5. Service: Amruth is more of a self service model, where you pay the bill first, and take the token to the food counter, so service isn't that much of a criterion here.

6. Recommendation:
a. Masala Dosa
b. Vada
c. Filter Coffee
