Review Taj Hotel Restaurant - Bengaluru

The biriyani is short grained with mild flavors. The chicken pieces were good and peeling off the bone properly. The side tomoto curry wasn't much good. Ghee rice is also good. Service was decent and the interiors were a bit old school.

We were here for lunch and this place didn't disappoint. Their food is up to the mark, and the service was quick. The food was pocket friendly, but you have to find your table on your own during rush hours. Must try at least once.

Old school Muslim joint specializing in non-veg fare. Their mutton biriyani and mutton chops are a must-try. And their ande ka mithai in the dessert section is absolutely amazing. Was blown away by how good it tasted. Go there for the meat, probably among the places offering the best mutton dishes available in Bangalore.

The food here definitely takes me back to my childhood , recently made a visit after a very long time and I’m not disappointed at all, the tastes again takes me back , ordered biryani , kabab , roti , mutton chops and sheekh, totally worth it, if you want a proper Bangalore Muslim style biryani then this is the place. The atmosphere is quite noisy but it’s all fine I guess if you enjoy the food. Service is good.

This place serves decent and value for money food. Ambience is not great. Must try their chicken shawarma if you visit this place post 3pm.

During my recent visit to the Taj Hotel, I had the pleasure of savoring their chicken biryani and kabab with a surprising twist of mayonnaise. My dining experience was quite enjoyable, and I would rate it a solid 4 out of 5. The chicken biryani was a standout, with its rich blend of aromatic spices and tender pieces of chicken. The kababs, too, were flavorful and perfectly grilled, making them a delightful accompaniment. The addition of mayonnaise, while unconventional for Indian cuisine, provided a unique and tasty contrast. The service at the Taj Hotel was impeccable, with attentive staff ensuring that my needs were met promptly. The ambiance was pleasant, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for diners. However, there is room for improvement. While the food was delicious, some minor enhancements in presentation could elevate the overall dining experience. Additionally, a broader variety of dishes on the menu might cater to a wider range of preferences. In summary, my visit to the Taj Hotel was a memorable one, thanks to the delectable food, courteous service, and pleasing ambiance.

Visited this hotel for the 1st time. The mutton biryani was very tasty, the mutton Sheikh kabab was very good. Disappointed with chicken kabab as it was not cooked properly. The price is reasonable and the staffs are very friendly and give good suggestions on the food and the quantity

It is one of the Old & rustic place in the city which is situated in one of those iconic locations. What can I talk about Biryani it is amazing here but the atmosphere to sit & eat is not worthy but get it parcelled & enjoy the biryani you will love it.

I have been visiting the place since I was a child. 30+ years now. When the setup was a small room. I left Bangalore in 1998 and returned after 25 years in 2023. In childhood, my parents used to bring me here for the delicious mutton Biriyani, Ghee rice and chicken kababs. It was always awesome. Cut - after 25 years. I can solidly say that - it's still awesome. The mutton biryani, ghee rice and chicken kabab is still outrageously delicious and simply out of this world. The hotel still remains in its original place and not sold out to corporate greed and franchise models. For the uninitiated, this place might not look flashy or staff might not be courteous as expected. But man, don't be fooled. The food compensates for any flaws. This place is a wonder and legacy of Bangalore City. Hopefully it should be cherished for years to come.

Taj hotel had been my all time favourite place when I ever I suppose to be in and around Shivajinagar. The taste has not been changed from almost 9-10 years. Had this amazing chicken platter there. On my plate chicken biriyani, grill chicken and chicken sukka. My taste buds was literally dancing, had it when their was heavy rain in Bengaluru. It's a must try with family, friends and loved ones. About the price, it's very reasonable it cost around 500/- for 2 people. Parking is bit problem. .Kindly follow my food page in Instagram "mr.thindipotha" for more foodie stuffs.

Chicken Briyani is awesome, all should try but Mutton Briyani is not up to the mark. And don’t try to go for Sheek Kabab, since 1 piece itself is costing INR. 180/- and not worth of going for it.

The most popular restaurant in Shivajinagar. Located in the centre of the market.
Taj hotel is a good family restaurant.

I had ordered Rumali Roti, Butter Chicken, Chicken Kabab, Mutton Biryani.

The dishes were very tasty. It's quite big, consisting of many floors and a floor for party function too.

Taste : 4/5
Service : 4/5
Ambience : 4/5
Value for money: 4/5

Came To This 85 Year Old TAJ HOTEL After More Than A Decade And Must Agree That They Were Able To Maintain The Hygiene And Taste. Sheek Kabab, Beja Fry And Malai Kabab Is A Must Have Dish Here. Biryani Was Little Above Average But Mutton Peice Was Very Succulent 😋 ... Totally Worth Visiting.

The menu of Taj proudly mentions they've been around since 1935. It's definitely seen more than 3 generations and countless patrons who loyally keep coming back for more.

A few hearty morsels and the juggernaut explains itself. The place perhaps had humble beginnings but it's quality and taste stand very tall and have passed the test of time.

Let's start with the Mutton Seekh kabab - the melt-in-the-mouth dish that stands out and I'm going to go out on a limb and say...not only is it the best I've had in recent times...but also the best in Bangalore by far! Lightly flavoured and gently grilled...it's succulent, bursting with well balanced flavour and really cushiony and soft. It does really set the standard for what a good kabab ought to be. Kudos to the chef who makes this with a lot of experience and love.

The Mutton Chaap was good. Well grilled and filled with taste. Definitely a dish to order. You'll enjoy it.

The chicken kebabs were just about ok. It's the standard kababs that you find at all Donne biryani places and although it wasn't bad, it didn't surprise or delight me.

The Mutton biryani we ordered was OUTSTANDING. It's the Bangalore Muslim biryani also called Bai biryani. But this was very well prepared, spiced just right and very tasty. I throughly enjoyed it.

A suprise item was definitely the 'Ande Ka Halwa' while you picturise it badly and it doesn't spring up a an appetising picture, do give this a try. It's actually a bread pudding, dunked in ghee and a complete delight.

The road that leads to to the restaurant is busy market situated on a one way street. Getting there is cumbersome but worth every bit of the traffic you're stuck in. Full 5 shiny gold stars to Taj restaurant...I'm heading there again very soon...and you should too!
Taj hotel is one of the oldest hotel in Shivajinagar, I think it almost 80years old restaurant in Shivajinagar and it's located in Bangalore.

The food taste was amazing and service also good but they need to improve ambience and cleanliness.

The owner are such a great hosts they guide nicely about food.

I went with my mom we had ordered:

Hyderbadi keema
Chicken kabab
Cyclone paratha
Seekh Kabab
Mutton biryani
Ghee rice
For Dessert : Caramel Custard.

What I loved the most :

Chicken kabab was really good and very crispy I would like to highly recommend this delicious dish.

Hyderbadi keema was also good and Tasty.

Mutton biryani is highly recommendabel in Taj hotel but I feel it's true the chef made biryani was really awesome and very delicious.

Caramel Custard amazingly attempt by chef.

Overall it's good to go with Family, friends and loved once.

Quality : 4/5
Cleanliness : 4/5
Price : 4/5

Inspite of being such a popular restaurant in the heart of Shivaji Nagar, the services offered by this restaurant is awfully poor. The staff is ill-mannerably rude to the customers and very argumentative. As for the food, the chicken kebab and tandoori is quite tasty. But the mutton is a strict no-no.
PS- The waiters had messed up my order and served chicken at the price of mutton biryani and when pointed out, they argued until we couldn't anymore.

Last week I had been to 80 years old biryani joint,Taj Hotel. We took kebab it was absolutely fantastic. I had never tasted the kebab of that kind. Next we took mutton chops, again it was different from rest of the hotels and the meat was perfectly cooked. Then we took Mutton Sheekh Kebab it was so juicy and soft and I wanted to have more and more. Finally we got Mutton Biryani and I Don't know how to describe it, it was so delicious with meat. Then at last we took Ande Ki Mithai it was amazing I felt like having Mysuru Pak.

A typlical muslim style biryani and hotel...surprise was that mutton items tasted good...Biryani not so lovable... kabab was nice... not a place I would visit again...

Taj hotel is one of the oldest in shivajinagar i think almost 80 years old.and located right in the heart of Shivajinagar.Service was quick but ambience and cleanliness is needs to improve..

The mutton biryani was true to its hype and we enjoyed it thoroughly.Chicken Kebab was good. Mutton Chops & Mutton Sheekh were ok not that great. ande ki mithai was yum.

What makes this place stand out is "The dishes here cooked in the traditional way, Despite developments in stoves and vessels, cooking happens in copper vessels on firewood".
Kanishk Ravindran
A legacy created and yet never fails to deliver perfected food, love the fact that the biryanis are slow cooked on wood fire. Totally recommend this place. The owners are such great hosts. Overall amazing experience.

Very pathetic! Very unhygienic!
Not a place to visit at all.
It was a good restaurant years before.
The last time we went, we saw mosquitoes and flies flying out of drinking water mug.
The mugs seemed to be washed months before.
The plates were dirty that if you wipe with a tissue, you can see the dirt. The tables and seats were no less.
Food mentioned in the menu will always be unavailable
The waiters don't even turn around inspite of being called
Only when payment of the bill has to done, they'll come to our table without even being called 😒
And last but not the least, the above mentioned experience was in the AC/deluxe department.

Taj hotel is one of the oldest in shivajinagar.its located in End of oph road near by juma masjid.there is no parking facilities in four wheeler.ambience and cleanliness is needs to improve.mutton biriyaani is typical muslim style is so good.kerala poratta.mutton rogan josh is very suit for porotta.the place is filled in every time.if you don't have over hype, it's ok ok

I was shopping for some stuff nearby and came across this huge hotel...it smelled great from outside and I decided to give it a go.. ambience is nothing much..however they have huge seating , 2 floors and each floor has 2 non AC and 1 AC section...and it was packed..we were able to find one seat in the AC section on 2nd floor.. ordered kalmi kebab, special basmati rice chicken biryani which was recommended and chocolate milkshake ..kebab was really good and tasted very good.. biryani was not that good...not sure why it was recommended..there is a different type of flavor and the rice is quite sticky..I did not like much...also too much sugar in milkshake...I took 2 sips and left it. all in all , an ok experience..can be tried..

Taj is one of the oldest and we'll known biriyani spot known by all the bangaloreans, as the Muslim cooks have been serving some great biriyanis and kababs. The traditional flavours are the same now..though the taste is great, they need to work a lot on hygiene and cleanliness of the restaurant.
The taste of the food is saving them, or else the restaurant is dirty, and washrooms are bad. Cutlery is not up to the mark.
Usually this place is crowded.

One of the oldest restaurants of Bangalore and must try place for Biriyani Lovers.

I am dining in this restaurant since 1990. The mutton biriyani is one of the best in town, the rice and meat are cooked to the perfection. It has a big piece of tender, juicy and nicely cooked mutton and aroma of rice is really good. They will start to serve biriyani as early as 11 AM. The chicken kabab has a unique taste, the chicken is tender and soft and the masala layer on the pieces are crispy. It is yummy.

Biryani lovers alert😝it’s time to dash to this place. The biryani, the kebabs, the Parotta, Chicken curry and Phirni are pure Paradise, delectable dishes whose memories make me drool. It never disappoints. Ambience wise, this place is now undergoing a makeover and is quite comfortable, though the washrooms could be better maintained. But apart from this, Taj remains the one stop destination for biryani lovers☺️

Ambience is pretty comforting. The food is really good!
Loved the lollipop! It was too good! The only thing disappointed me a little was the chicken biryani (basmati) . I found it a little bland. It would be really tasty if they could spice it up. Otherwise, it’s a good and affordable place for non veg lovers.

Hi yesterday on 2 nd September we visited for lunch ,ordered chicken Biryani , it costs Rs 180 , quality is not good, the original tastes have no more, quantity of rice and meat are reduced, our neighborhood Biryani shops in ejipura and koramangala they sell ambur Biryani for Rs 70, fresh, with very good tastes and good meat pieces, we can buy 3 Biryani. So i request Taj hotel to be reasonable with good tastes. And the staffs are not service oriented , they serve as unhappy ,only waiting for tips , this is my bad experience

My love for biryani has always taken me places but that has never stopped me from trying out a biryani especially if it is supposed to be that good!

One of those days landed us here though we have tried their biryani at their other branch - Chichabas. I was told that this was the original and one of the oldest restaurants in Bangalore.

Luckily for us that day the crowd during lunch was quite manageable and we got a table in 5 minutes which I hear is quite rare. Since we were ravenous and not sure when we would make it to this part of the city again we decided to over order - Sheesh Kebab, Chicken Kebab and Mutton Biryani (2 plates) - yes, all this for 2 people! Our attendant give us the look that we were a bit looney nevertheless brought it all to our table within 10 mins. That is what I love about such places, the food is served in a jiffy.

The mutton biryani was true to its hype and we enjoyed it thoroughly. The kebab was as expected though I was not too fond of the sheesh kebab ( I guess I am still not a lamb person).

My choice for one of the better mutton biryani's in the city.

Food here always tasted good, although the quality has dropped a little on my recent visit. But still in love with the Biriyani here. Kulcha and Mutton Korma was great, but just a suggestion if they could have some cheer full waiters, the person who took our order on the family room on the entrance floor was rude to us, as we asked hot water for our 2 year old baby and he said “First place your order, then we will see” and the hot water never arrived, then we again asked for it from another waiter who severed the food and again had to wait for never arriving hot water, but on asking on 3rd time we got a small glass of warm water which was rudely dumped on our table. No complains on the food and the ambience. Just the staff need to be a little cheerful.
Plus the toilet was very unclean, this we understand as it is a busy joint and it’s right in the middle of a busy market.

4 stars are only for Ramzan Special Foods.

Dishes ordered:
Mutton Haleem (Recommended)
Mutton Kheema Parotta (Recommended)

Mutton Haleem was so good. Trying for the time. May be better Haleem available in other places but this was really delicious. Price was very reasonable for the quantity and the taste.

Mutton Kheema Parotta - EXTRAORDINARY.
Perfectly made. Enjoyed every bite. Big in the size. Definitely sufficient for a person with average appetite. I would recommend this with anyother Kebabs.

Worst service, Never received order even after 2 hours then went out to buy from nearby restaurant. Pathetic service. When I called Taj they said to contact Zomata, when I emailed Zomata then no response. Waste of my time. Do not place any order from them. Rude and timewaster

In my 15 yrs staying in B’lore, I have never ever had this worst eating experience any where. Guys if you really wanna going good food, please visit near Imperial or any nearer point. I never suggest at least this food point (TAJ🤬, SHIVAJINAGAR). Here people are so lazy to serve food. While I asked to give some onion waiter said no we cannot give without any second thought. Biriyani(no basmati still 210/-)is so pathetic to eat. It’s made in Garbage pot so stinking. Chicken was so horrible to eat if it gets lil cold. Finally I ordered lime soda sweet and salt they served me soda without removing the lime seeds OMG. I had a very bad day01/May/2018. Guys please take my suggestion then you will be in profit.

one of the oldest eating joint famous for it's biryani and kebabs ,serving people of Bangalore since 1935 !!! it's knows for it's biryani and non vegetarian food. I was passing by and it was a lunch time so desided to have lunch here .There are different seating arrangement . One can choose to be in Air condition dining hall or the common non AC service hall . However food served both the hall is from same kitchen. Ordered for it well known mutton biryani and mutton dry .Food was lip smaking but yes it's towards heavier side. But you can enjoy the traditional Old Muslim taste in the food .I enjoyed the meal if you are looking for something traditional and old style food in Bangalore you should come here .
.

Went here after more than a decade. Last memory is of going with my dad. Seating in level 1 was full , was sent to upper floor. Here the shabby dressed waiter needing basic training asked me to go back to lower floor because I was ordering low priced items ( 1 parotta and 1 Ghee rice) . He suggested me to take chicken or mutton biryani and discard the meat if I was a Vegetarian. All this to just increase the order value !!! 😅😅

Can't believe such service still happens in Bengaluru !!! Absolute poor behaviour. Moved to another part of the floor to try my luck. The man waiting this table was much better. The parotta and the Ghee rice were pretty good but the dal and gravy was very ordinary.

Why did I still eat here??? Sunny afternoon and had no motivation to search for another eatery around here 😣😣

Rating 4/5

Today was back to the legend of the Taj, right in the heart of Shivajinagar. Visiting this outlet after a decade or more, the addition of an aircon Chichaba's section was the one change, other than that seems pretty much the same. Ordered a mutton biryani and a half plate of kababs, after seating myself in the shared seating non aircon main section.

Service was quick and the biryani was the real deal. Mildly flavored, very fragrant and with a surprisingly substantial chunk of mutton, which was melt in the mouth texture. The style is close to the Muslim Shaadi biryani style in my view (limited though and happy to be corrected). Small grain rice does not seem out of place at all in this style of biryani.

The kababs were superb too, perfectly cooked white breast meat (in my plate at least) with a crunchy red outer coating.

The pricing was very reasonable, I think a total of 302 including a litre of cold bottled water and a chai at the end.

The same biryani (presumably) was being sent to the aircon Chichaba's section, but in the proper serving bowls, instead of a stainless steel plate. The crowds for takeaway were maddening, perhaps 70-100 biryanis got taken away whole I was finishing my one portion, and there was a fair bit of commotion and "galata" at the parcel counter. Definitely a landmark this is!

One of Bangalore's oldest biryani place. The biryani lost it's charm from what it used to be,but then it's a must visit for authentic muslim biryani.
A must try in this place is the biryani, tandoori and kabeb.

DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL!!!
Worst hotel I've ever been to in my life.. don't get flattered by this huge hotel.. I seriously wonder why it's so famous.. I was just shopping in the area and noticed this huge
restaurant and was fooled by its glorious name TAJ...
MY EXPERIENCE:
We ordered 2 seekh kebabs..we only got 4 finger sized kebabs which were stinking.. probably because they were undercooked or because it was an old piece of meat, God knows what.. we only took 1 bite..
then we ordered B'lore's famous ghee rice which usually comes with a complementary daal gravy.. but not in this amazing restaurant.. you have to pay extra here for the crappiest daal gravy you'll ever have in your life.. and the ghee rice sucked too.. we wanted 1/2 plate fried chicken, but the waiter was like NO.. WE ONLY SERVE ONE FULL PLATE.. we were like okay.. maybe the chicken here is too good that after eating 1/2 plate, we would be licking our fingers for more.. but guess what, this restaurant DID NOT FAIL to disappoint us... the chicken wasn't hot and it looked like it had been fried ages ago...
My family took one bite each of all the dishes we ordered.. we couldn't eat because the quality was that BAD.. not even average!! Not even edible!!
The total bill came up to 680rs.. and we were still hungry with no satisfaction of the two three bites of food we just had..
My humble request to you people out there- don't ever go to this restaurant even if it's the only restaurant in the world.. it serves food of very poor quality and over prices it to make it look like some hifi restaurant..the worst decision I made in my life was to eat at this place... 680rs down the drain... we asked the waiter to pack up the food and just gave it to a homeless person... I hope he doesn't fall sick..

Wow....
The place is a epic.... When it comes to eating proper Muslim style nonveg food...
The CP or Ceylon parota with non veg gravy (of your choice) is too good...the best is their hot crispy kebabs...always crowded.Try the ghee rice also...
The service is excellent...prices just right for the area...
A sumptuous meal for 2 will cost Rs 400/- and is just just worth it folks...
Parking a challenge here..
Must try😋

Went there at 11pm best is that there was food

The ghee rice tastes filled with flavormbut then rice looked of poor quality as it was sticky n seemes half cooked

The ckicken kabab is amazing flavoured, well cooked and crispy
The complimentary gravy was yum and just made the ghee rice much better. Dal was poor and hmmm seemed like it was a left over.

Only big downfall is the hygine factor but then for a bill of 140 cant expect amazing service... But needs to be cleaner atleast

Would love the take aways still

Taj is know for their Bengaluru style muslim biryani its superb quality and awesome portion size for the pricing. Apart from biryani they are also know for sheeks, chicken kababs, naans and caramel custard. If your a vegetarian you must try the naans. Ghee rice and gobi masala or paneer kadai, If I had to choose 3 dishes from the menu it would be the sheeks, biryani and caramel custard.

Updating my review in 2019. Recently we visited taj and tried out their hyderabadi murgh biryani i really really enjoyed it but irs only avaiable on saturdays. instead of my regular order sheeks I ordered chicken kababs fried it was superb.

Place is crowdy, parking is hectic. Tried chicken and mutton Biryani, seekh kabab, carrot halwa, egg pudding and tea. It's Muslim authentic food style...lots of items available in menu.. Near to church and masjid ... So.. It's like crowdy ...

I had been to this place on a Friday afternoon around 1.. Though had gone there by bike, it was difficult to find parking.. place was closed for prayers, waited as it was raining.. Just took a stroll in the restaurant.. The place is not clean or hygienic.. I would not suggest this place to women.. If someone is really interested to give it a try, I would suggest them to directly enter the Family A/c room which is on the ground floor- the right side of the restaurant... Suppose anyone sees the other part of the restaurant, am sure they would leave the place without eating.. Ordered chicken biryani and kalmi kebab, which tasted reasonably good.. Service was quick and prices are reasonable...The 3 rating is only for the food..

Well, Taj Hotel in Shivajinagar is one of the famous "muslim" hotel known for its traditional muslim style biryani. I must say it stood up to its reputation along its very affordable prices.
Its very well know in this locality, any one in that area can guide to this hotel.
I tried Chicken Biryani, Ghee Rice and Dal,I must say guys, short grain rice with supple flavour of "Biryani spices" with bits of masala chunks and that signature mild and subtle biryani flavor. Perfectly made ghee rice along with Dal,it was just Heavenly, period. It was all worth the visit
Take a day off, drag your buds and visit this place.
Highly Recommend.
Update: I revisited this place in April 2017 with my friuends and ordered Chicken & Mutton Biryani with Chicken Kabab and Grill Chicken, it tasted awesome.
Ambiance: 3/5
Taste: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Quality: 4/5
Value for money: 4/5

Amidst bustling market, stands this hotel. Crowded every time. Good food, but not great!
It's affordable, but don't pay a visit here in rainy season.

Pocket Friendly too...

Taste: 4/5
Quality: 3.5/5
VFM: 4/5

Its a crowded place shivaji nagar is famous for unbranded shopping. After shopping when u get hungry its time to eat. We don't think which hotel it is. Tried biryani usually biryani means cooked with basmati rice. But this hotel size of rice is small I called the water what rice is this they simply say zeerak chmba. But taste is good.

Perfect place to enjoy chicken tandoori, kalmi, kabab, tikka and curry items. Service good, quantity enough to fill our hungry stomach. Biryani is average. And never tried veg items there :P
I had been there so many times.
And dont mis the sweet pan beeda(cold), its avalable jst beside that, its very good, you will enjoy the paan :)

This is your proper old school non veg hotel in heart of old school Shivajinagar. Best known in the glory days for its biryani. Even now its Biryani manages a mean punch! However, I believe its biryani is not the best out there. Richie Raham's, Biryani Ghar etc. have now taken the lead. But Taj still has the edge in its awesome seekh kebabs and chops. Those are extremely tasty and not too heavy on the pocket!

For nostalgia sake, do try it once!
