Review Sweet Chariot Cafe - Bengaluru

Love this place. Visited here after many years and the quality has remained the same. The chocolate pastry and run cake is simply outstanding. They have other bakery items as well. There's no parking space and hence park on st marks road and walk up.

Always a good place to have cheap and tasty food. Love the cold coffee and ice tea. The chicken lasagne is really yummy too. The margarita pizza was pretty good for its price. But the speed of service is kinda annoying at times. You'll probably need to keep reminding them to get you your order. Had to wait a really long time to get the cold coffee.

Place/Food: Good variety of snacks and Cakes/pastry. Next to German Consulate, so good options for snacks. Parking: Free Two wheeler parking is allowed and that a good part indeed. One star for this.

The place is good visible from usual traffic. The place is decorated decently,it is little small place, but the taste is yumy.I had one Black forest and one Butterscotch Ice cream, that taste was ok ok... nothing special.

Variety of cakes & we can order for customised cup cakes @ reasonable rates.

This place is filled with childhood memories and the taste or quality has always been promising and satisfying... The Rum Tart should actually be endorsed as the Brand Ambassador but Black Forest Pastry and Pineapple Pastry are giving a good fight for the best dessert! The chocolate eclairs is something that we don't get easily in Bangalore. It's a sandwich pastry with fresh cream filling and chocolate icing on the top. It's extremely tasty especially for people who don't like excess chocolate. The butterscotch pastry is absolutely amazing topped with ample amount of caramel on top. This is one other thing that I love after Black Forest and pineapple pastry. They serve pastries as well as cakes, order carefully. Amazing Desserts. Amazing Place. Great Ambiance. Friendly Staff. The other desserts are great as well and one must try them!

Wonderful selection, reliable taste and quality. In times when desserts are changing forms and shape, Sweet Chariot brings about the feel of good old times with classic flavours and bakes. The Savory items are also delectable for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The served quality at these price points, give a definite edge to Sweet Chariot.

My favourite since childhood, cakes still taste delicious. ....excellent quality.

Sweet Chariot's signature Black Forest Cake and Butterscotch Cake were good. The service from the staff is good. It is located just beside the German Consulate. Parking may be a bit of a problem as there is too little space to park vehicles. For your information, Sweet Chariot is a Bangalore-based bakery and confectionery chain that opened its first cake shop in 1981 in Brigade Road, which still exists and is popular. The name of the founder is Glen Williams

It was good. We bought two biethday cakes. Both of them were delicious at reasonable prices. However you can't expect too much. But within limited budget it's pretty decent.

Heard many good things about this place and thought of trying out 2 to 3 varieties of pastries at here. First thing that caught my eyes was "FRESH CREAM COFFEE WALNUT PASTRY" and the store keeper also confirmed that's there one of the best pastries. First thing, I couldn't click a good pic inside, coz very poor lighting and the ambience was not good too🙄, which made me stand at the entrance to click a good pic atleast 😃😜. First bite of it, just made me feel so uncomfortable 😑😑, taste was not at all good, didn't seem like it was freshly made cake at all🙄😑. Never expected that it would taste so bad 😑, after this i didn't dare to try second one 😰😵.

Went to pick up a brownie.... While the MRP on the product mentioned 55 RS they asked me to pay 65rs.... Beware of these cheaters.... And more over the person did not have any explanation for this....

Just came back back from picking up my yearly order of Christmas cake, this year 6700 INR worth, for gifting friends.

I ordered the cake in the morning, to be picked up from their outlet. I pre ordered to avoid being booked by traffic police for halting in front of the outlet.

I was reminded to pick up the order as i was late in coming. When I arrived, i called when i was 100 m away, so as to avoid problems with traffic police. When no one was waiting outside outlet with my order, i called again and had the order loaded in my car. On reaching home, i found it short by one cake.

I called the same number and was given a load of rubbish about it being mistaken.

I said i could come back or go to the police, his choice, he gulped and requested me to come back.

I came back, walked in and demanded to see the manager. Manager demanded to see my bill. When shown the bill, he wanted to see the item. I showed him that too. Failing to gain leverage, he kept quiet. I remarked that it was a great way to be helped when i asked for assistance in overcoming the lack of parking problem. He said he wasn’t my servant to give help, that he had been greatly inconvenienced by my late pickup. Lost my cool and began shouting, called them cheap buggers for cheating and trying to avoid rectifying the situation. He said it wasn't a big thing and not requiring to be abused for just 280 bucks shortfall. I suggested he would want to discuss that with his director, my classmate. No response from him to go ahead with my escalation of the complaint. It’s going to happen anyway.

The situation would not have arisen if apologies had been made and offers to deliver the missing item made, This shows the futility of having an upmarket outlet if you are going to hire low grade personnel and pay them peanuts. You’ll only get monkeys.

Mouth watering desserts and pastries. Ambience could have been better but otherwise no complaints. Their cookies are so worth to carry home every time I visit.

Butter cream chocolate almond truffle cake. Cake was not at all fresh. Smell was also not good. Don't buy cakes online from this vendor. I felt it was made long long before and put with preservatives. Overall It was not at all worthy.

The cake was much better than expected. The Mousse filling was exceptionally tasty.
Writing wasn't as beautiful as expected.
Still liked the Cake :)

A nice place to hang out for sweet-loving people.

Bangalore rains left me no choice but to take temporary refuge at this wonderful bakery . Whatever I tried here was good but the menu lacked innovation.

the chicken was not fresh

Worst service never relay on this guys in terms of commitment and false promisors. This guys don't deserve even 1 rating

This had been a favourite dessert place and our go to place for birthday cakes for 9 years! The quality of food hasn't changed. The Chocolate Mousse cake is still one of my favourites!

Located right opposite Ritz-Carlton, Bangalore, this place actually turned out to be more crowded than I'd expected it to be. Decent and plain decor, nothing fancy, and nice staff. There were quite a number of options to choose from for desserts. I ordered a Coco cake sundae. The bad part was that it took 20 mins to be served. The sundae was good, but not great. A nice pocket-friendly place to go, eat and spend time!

Horrible lasagna looked like paneer in masala gravy and Spaghetti looked like worms in stale sauce
Horrible service and concern for the complaint

I didn't know it served anything else apart from Cakes and Pastries until a friend of mine told me. After I tried their pasta and main course it has been one of my preferred places in the locality.

Sweet Chariot is my go-to place for cakes and pastries. I've got cakes made from them a couple of times on birthdays and it's turned out quite good.
Their Mango Bavarian Cake being my favorite, followed by their Chocolate Almond Truffle, Mixed Fruit and Strawberry Mousse Cake.
Also try out their Butterscotch pastry it's delicious.

A decent place to hangout after a long day at work. Tried their samosas, veg burger, donut & some beverages along with my friends and they said they were happy

- I have been a customer of Sweet chariot for a while now, love their Pastries and Ice creams.

My most favrite Pastry from here is : Dark White Chocolate Pastry (Hoping the name is correct)
- Chocolate lovers will go Insane after tasting this Pastry.
- There is very less cake in this pastry, just layers of Cream giving a beautiful taste.
- Some of my friends have found it to be too much of chocolate though.

In Ice Creams I have tried : 'Death by Chocolate' and one more whose name I dont remember.

Death by Chocolate
- 2 Scoops of Vanilla with lots of Cashews
- 4 Browniew slices make the base and are juicy with Ice cream. This dish was super Yummy.

Thank you,
TheAnvolyzer

Still my favorite place for a cake!
My recommendations are butter scotch and red velvet and both of these options have eggless availability!

Thought sweet chariot was only for their cakes . But i was wrong. They have a cafe at residency road which serves awesome food. Had the lasagna which was awesome

Love this place. It's a few blocks away from my office and so is our favourite place to hangout. Love the pizzas!!! The other pizzerias don't come close to this one. We ordered the SaaS Bahu spl which was yum.
The mocha and latte were exceptional. Giving ambience a 5 as well.

I really hope that the management reads the reviews . As a paying customer i have always noticed that they have declined alot over time with their freshness of desserts. What is really not a nice thing to do is cheat your customers. Twice a year they make marzipan. Out of cashews not almonds. They make it a week or more before they will put it out for sale and then on the day of Easter or Christmas , its very stale , cracking and hard. Today i went to residency rd to buy the marzipan and eggs. I saw that it was cracked and looked very dry. So i checked the date and it was made on the 5th . The expiry date is 15 days from date of manufacture. 10 days is over . Why do you guys always do this? are we not paying you money? do we not deserve good products that are not stale? why do you guys make it and keep it away and only bring it out close to the festival date? Please tell me. I was very disappointed and did not buy anything for Easter. What you do is not fair.

Ordered 3 quiches for take away. Bill. No. A61789. After a seemingly long wait they told me they've packed all three in two separate boxes and handed them over, sealed. Only later did I realize that there were only two in the box. I never expected a so called reputed establishment like Sweet chariot to cheat people. Shameful indeed.

Had a pathetic sandwich experience. Ordered a mushroom , capsicum , gherkin sandwich and got this ! It was just bread and hardly anything inside. didnt expect this !

Lasagna for 150 rupees??? Yes please!!! And it was good too. There is nothing that pleases me more than these little old places that really build the character of a city. It's a breath of fresh air. Made me miss my college days when we would go out in a group and hang out all day at a cafe without having to worry about spending too much.

I'm a really big fan of Sweet Chariot and have been visiting since I've been a kid. Birthdays seem incomplete without one of their smashing cakes. Having said that, I have not sampled too many of their savory items. I do believe that part of their menu to be slightly inconsistent. Their pastries, eclairs, rum tarts and breads are great. I love the samosas too. My all time favourite has to the Black Forest cake, moist and not overly sweet. The staff is helpful and well informed, taking orders over phone too. To me Sweet Chariot is a part of BLR.

So as kids growing up in Bangalore, eating out at Sweet Chariot was a weekly ritual. Even today, eating here and listening to that same Bryan Adams- inspired playlist brings back some fond memories of the old bangalore.

We went there recently, and were absolutely delighted to find the quality and prices marginally unchanged.

Our favourites: Vegetable Florentine, The Cold Pasta Salads, Chicken Veloutte, Chicken Lasagne, Chicken in pepper sauce (see photo), Mushroom Quiche, Pineapple Cake.

Our super-favourites: Rum Tart - a couple of them will give you a buzz, Rich Chocolate and Chicken Portuguese.

This is one of the bakeries that has been in the Residency Road for quite some time. I can recollect the time back in early 2000’s when we used to pick up cakes from here whenever we were celebrating birthday of our friends. It is right next to the Cash Pharmacy junction that has almost been there like forever. The place sure does attract customers who repeatedly come there. And also being closer to the schools & colleges makes it more probably for the kids to go and take up items that are available. I also think that all the school parties might end up happening here as its close by to Bishop’s Boys School. This place sure can boast of the quality which is pretty consistent.

Location

If you are coming from Double Road flyover and heading to Residency Road, the first signal that comes is the ‘Cash Pharmacy’ signal. Cross the signal and keep to the left side. You will find the Sweet chariot soon after the complex that has cash pharmacy.

Ambiance

It’s a nice place to sit and dine in. Infact, in general there are people regularly going there and the seats are relatively occupied. The various items prepared from the kitchen are put on display. There is also a section from where you can pick up breads items.

Food

The most important aspect of the food at this place is the consistency as I mentioned above. There are few items I generally end up taking whenever I go to Sweet Chariot, I take the same at this outlet as well.

Rich Chocolate cake is one of the best chocolate cake coz it has got some kind of special chocolate cream which is spread on the small size of the cake. But the taste mind-blowing and the taste has been consistent since ages. The cake has layers where cake and the chocolate creams can be seen. It is surely not bitter as you might think a Rich Chocolate to be. I would just recommend trying it and enjoy the flavour by yourself.

Black Forest is another among many people. Infact, in the earlier days, this was the cake always preferred as it has milk and chocolates. But nowadays, there are so many new varieties of cakes have come up and people like other flavours.

Puff is another item that I always pick up when I goto sweet chariot. It is well made and it has been quite tasty always.

White bread and Brown bread variants made in the kitchen are also good. Usually this is something you would take back home. Along with that there is this garlic bread which is quite large. The taste is quite good and a must take back to home.

When it comes to drinks I have tried few drinks like the Cappuccino and Soda Pop. The 1st one is the normal coffee but the 2nd one is quite interesting and I would recommend people taking it.

Choco Vanilla and Vanilla Almost frappe was also pretty good.

Overall Experience

It is always nice to go to an old bakery outlet like Sweet Chariot. The place now can’t just be called as bakery coz they have a huge menu which lets people choose. But for someone like me the most commonly ordered dishes, we would still take. My current rating for this place is 3.5/5.

Rating in other departments.

Food – 3.5/5

Service – 3.5/5

Ambiance – 3.5/5

Drinks – 3.5/5

Food for 2 will cost anywhere between INR300-600.

A lovely place! One that i still love to visit! Their cakes, pastries and desserts are delicious!
Well maintained and neatly kept place!
Kudos!

After giving up hopes from the outlet near home, this outlet did some rescue act by delivering some yummy butterscotch and chocolate pastries. Cheers :-)

The mousse cake is one of the best cakes I have ever eaten! It's the only cake I order for any occasion! Absolutely delicious.

Their other items lack the lustre that the mousse cake has.
Rajashekar Dasari
Worst cake I ever had and I heard people rate this bakery really high.
1) I did online order for 2Kg with delivery time as 6PM and he reaches at 2PM for delivery. How can I store the cake for so many hours w/o proper temperature
2) the cake was so hard to cut. My kid couldn't even cut the cake
3) very Bad taste
4) I requested for Disney princess picture on the cake. He pasted a so blurred image. Can't get a better picture from google ?
5) The support number provided on the web, that person post order stopped taking calls

Arguably the most coveted place to be at during my school days, sweet chariot seems to have fizzled out rather dramatically.
I paid them a visit not too long ago and while the food wasn't particularly bad, it was just alright, the ambience has turned somewhat depressing and there's just a lazy lull that hangs about the place.
Their cakes are still great, but over the years, I believe they've failed to stay relevant.
Nivedita Nayak
Must trys: ChocoRum cake, chocolate truffle cake, dark chocolate cake, bread sticks, homemade dark chocolates

Their sandwiches are average but I love their chocolate rum cake nd anything that comes wid dark chocolate. ..

Try out fr ur frns bday or anyone's spl day.... u will never regret ....their cakes r fresh and super soft

My go to place for a quick takeaway during office hours purely due to convenience. I have tried almost all vegetarian items over the years and ALL cakes. Not kidding!
I will start with what i like, dark truffle pastry is superb, samosas, the mousse are a good deal. The cappacino is loved in my office. Dine in facility is alright. They reheat frozen stuff. I do not like this concept so i have not enjoyed eating here. My colleagues swear by the non-veg lasagna.
Please do not order potato wedges, you will get a rude shock. Six pieces of overfried of what should not be wedges..:))
The servers never give a bill. Dine in section is handled by a single waiter. Crowd is mostly school children and parents. The staff do not disturb singletons and recognise regulars.
No delivery facility here even for cake orders. My office folks order pitcher size coffee dailyvand yet they do not deliver.
As oft repeated adage by me "Do not be carried away by nostalgia. There are several other newer better offers around."

Yes it is still oldest legendary Sweet Chariot Cafe..!! My favourite brand ever for their pasteries..!! Pasteries are forever best..!!!! I love you always..!!

In the good old scool days of mine being able to buy a chocolate mousse was a luxury at sweet charriot. They made them so darn delicious back in those days. sadly they've had a lot more competition since then and have lost that charm they once beheld. Still a legendary Bangalore cake shop.
Anna
Tried chocolate mousse and banana split. They tasted nice. Nothing unique in them which can separate their style or flavour from other shops. Need to check their hygiene level too.
Smar Gangs
One of the oldest and legendary bakery in Bangalore. Once loved by all bangaloreans but being outdone by competition nowadays . They really need to improve their overall quality soon.
Shweta Pandey
This place should really be asked to shut down. They sell stale stuff that too with so much arrogance. I wish some food inspector reads this and decides to descend upon the store or better still, I can personally write to the Karnataka Food and Drugs Authorities asking them to check everything that is being sold there. They are brazenly playing with people's health and safety!
Vikas Rao
I wish they could have had a minus in ratings.. The service and quality of the place is TERRIBLE. ... staffs r kind of responsive only to females .. This place is not for guys .. hell lot of discrimination

This is the last one in my quest to review all the SC Cafés that I frequent. This outlet is very close to my college and therefore, we end up going here a lot, from picking up full cakes for birthdays, quick desserts post lunch or a sweet fix at the end of a tiring day. It's usually quite crowded, the ambience and music is always loud and upbeat, a happy place to be indeed. My only complaint is that you can't sit here for long; the bill is left at your table as soon as you're close to finishing, a subtle way of telling you to leave asap.
Stephen Pradeep
My place for Birthday Cakes. Have ordered many times from here and have always liked cakes and pastries from here. The variety is amazing. And they have an album full of pictures to choose from.

Will always continue to visit this place.
Mohammed Imran
After a long time had been here to buy cake for birthday occasion..They are loosing standards in terms of taste and in terms of cost. They even charge for a knife where as they should provide with it, I regularly visit daily bread they have transparency in making the cakes and they provide knife, tissues, paper plates along with it on request without any charge. Never ever gonna visit sweet chariot again.
Anant
The pastries and the pasta salad that we tried were absolutely fantastic. Wasn't expected considering the dim lit and ordinary kind of place. Was very well one of the best pastries I've ever had.
Saurabh
Ambiance: Decent..
dimly lit
Food: Good..

Service: Prompt

Price: The best part..VFM.. doesnt pinch the pocket

I love sweet chariot. So many of my childhood memories revolve around the titbits from here. The rum tarts can be eaten almost anytime and all the time. And i still think they make the best black forest in town. The only reason i have rated them a little lower is, there are times when the black forest is not fresh.
Pramod
They are big name in Bangalore but perhaps a big Flop !!
You can feel sugar particles in their pastries and cakes and that's the first and last reason i hate this place.
I tried only once in my life and decided not to eat anything from this place even if someone offers money to eat here.
A very big disappointment.
2.0 rating because we finished everything here as we don't believe on NO WASTAGE policy !
Supreeta Benegal
Every true blue bangalorean has atleast once got their birthday cake from here. Whether it was their exotic seasonal fruit cakes, the black forest cake, or their signature chocolate mousse cake which simply melts in one's mouth. And every kid who went to school nearby, I'm sure gave all their afterschool birthday treats here and dirtied the place by smashing cake all over (only to lick it later) and the staff silently approved.
Sweet chariot was a part of my childhood which makes it very special and close to me. And in spite of new age cake shops opening around the corner, nothing can replace mine or any sweet toothed Bangalore kid's craving for good ol' cake.
BangaloreByte
Some of the reviews about this place just don't make sense for the kind of grub and service that this place offers. One of the oldest eateries in Bangalore and still going strong against new entrants like Au Bon Pain, this Sweet Chariot outlet is definitely one of my favorites in Bangalore City. I've always been a big fan of their Chicken and Cheese sandwich, which is a staple order every time I go. Last week I happened to drop in, and ordered a Keema pav to go along with the chicken sandwich. This was washed down with a lime soda. Definitely order the chicken keema pav when you head to this outlet next. A melt in your mouth pav with masala chicken keema, the combination's absolutely heavenly! They have hiked up the prices a bit off late, which is a bit of a disappointment. The wonderful service (smiling faces all around) and the quality of food makes up for the little anomalies. Definitely recommend!

P.S Check out their Chocolate Mousse, out of the world!

Avoid this place ..don't ever buy blackforest from this specific sweetchariot ..
It is our first wedding anniversary today n we took the blackforest from this sweet chariot..n at midnight when we cut this cake n had it..blah..it was full of wippedcream or whatever was in white color..no taste..not even properly sweetened...it was not even like a stupid roadside pastry taste..blah
I had ordered sweetchariot from koramangala,,,n it was yum... This residency one is sucks...

Seriously dissapointed n angry coz they ruined our wedding as anniversary cake..n mood n cash as well

Pastries were really good especially the non - chocolate ones. Food is average not bad not extraordinarily good either.

There are some places that are damned to hell. And there are some that let them slip themselves into it. If I were to choose it would be the latter for this branch of Sweet Chariot. 2 years back this was one of my favourite haunts for a quick bite into the continental cuisine. If I happen to be dragged there now, I stick with the lemon tart. It's the only thing fresh in the menu.

The waiters bringing your food have a processing power of 1 (on a scale of 50) and the menu is ancient. But of course, you are here for the food. It's just not today's. It probably might not be last week's either. The deserts look fresher but you can test it by lightly pressuring the top of the pasty with your finger.

I have had many fond memories of this place. Mostly because they told me that what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. This place has made me very strong but I suspect one day I won't live to tell. I would avoid this place for their cuisine or sandwiches or pastas or fries or even the packaged potato chips that are a month old.

Their pastries though can survive to be eaten another day and that's not so bad is it?
Mohammed Daanish Zackria
One of Bangalore's grand old favourites for everything sweet, its been around since the beginning of the 80's. In fact it brings back so many memories I cant help but start this review with a little trivia.

1. Sweet chariot serves the "Hot Chocolate Fudge" .... which of course is the corner house chains original claim to fame.

2. The hot chocolate fudge that sweet chariot have long served is an identical version of what corner house calls the regular. They serve them to this day and after my recent experiences with corner house i can honestly say sweet chariots is better.

3. It was earlier available at one of their kiosks in another Bangalore land mark the airlines hotel. Which just happens to house one of the most popular corner house branches today.

4. Sweet chariot if I'm not mistaken has actually been around longer

... Put that together and i cant help but wonder which one is the original ,and why its only the corner house fudge we all talk about?

The sweet chariot i now know however is located on residency road. A lovely little cafe that has since grown to become quite a popular choice for not just its cakes but a lot more. I have grown up simply relishing their lemon tarts and chocolate clowns. These days you can also indulge in a lot more from grill sandwiches, to one of the better lasagnes in Bangalore. It was particularly well constructed, the pasta was right, they were generous with the shreds of chicken, the sauce was well seasoned with good balance and most importantly the cheese was just right. In fact all of their European mains like the Kiev are hard to go wrong with and leave you very satisfied.

Many of their cakes like the cheese cake and their popular chocolate mouse cake have been the main stay at my family and friends birthdays. They are consistent across branches (i've tried the one in Pune) and are priced at a fraction of what most other upmarket places charge you.

What I'm trying to say in not so many words is it ticks off the boxes and does them all pretty well. Its very economical for the kind of quality and quantity they offer, they have a generally pleasant cafe ambiance and best of all the food is consistently great. The bang you get for your buck here, is hard to beat....

But !!! and yes there is a but ...... the service especially in terms of customer interaction has become surprisingly poor. When seated in the cafe the staff take eons to understand you and get your order. Every item i mention from the menu, draws a reaction from the waiter like I mentioned the most unheard of thing in the world. When you call in you end up speaking to at-least 3 guys and end up listening them all talk to at-least 3 other people each. It takes some persistence and patience to get it done. Once your done ordering though it gets better. Unless of course you want to order some thing more. If they can work out the kinks from that, sweet chariot in my opinion may deserve a whole extra point on my rating.

Pros;-

Great range of options
very tasty food with good portion sizes
Good quality ingredients

Cons: -

Service i.e. quality of customer interaction is poor
