Review Cafe At Ngma - Bengaluru

We went on Sunday afternoon. Surprisingly it there were hardly any crowd. Costed ₹20 per (Indian) person. They are a bit strict about photography but in a weird fashion. Its okay to take any number of photos of the artwork and installations but we are not allowed to click personal pictures (Basically can’t have ourselves in that frame). Putting one star less because of that. There are guards standing in every corner and everyone is being watched. Fair enough. Otherwise the experience was great. Loved the ambiance.

The ambience of the gallery is fantastic. There is almost no noise in the surroundings thereby making the experience very serene. The first thing that comes to mind is the display. I visited during the Chiselled exhibition which was based on several sculptures done by female artists. The display of those sculptures were fantastic. The lighting, the sense of negative space to perfectly experience the sculpture were immaculate. Apart from that, in the other wing, several paintings were displayed which I believe is always ongoing and not a special exhibition. There were paintings from the Bengal School of Art which is one of my favorite art movements. Modern artworks were the majority as is the name. Some of the artworks were huge and aptly displayed allowing you to view them at your own pace. There is an affordable shop near the entrance where you can buy prints. There is also a nice simple cafe. There is an auditorium where events are held now and then. Now for some drawbacks. Firstly, the display being as fantastic as it is, the captions which included the artwork details and the artists' names were very small and most of them were very difficult to find in the lowly lit spaces. I counted at least 3-4 artworks which didn't have any captions so we were unable to know anything about the artist's names. This was a major negative point during the visit which I mentioned in the feedback book present near the entrance to the halls. Secondly, there were no catalogues which we could refer to while viewing the ongoing exhibition as well as the regular exhibition of the modern art paintings. Therefore we could only note down the names of the artworks and artists, about whom we didn't know much, to search for them later on from the web. The listening app is not very helpful as it doesn't have the specific artworks present in the actual exhibition gallery, thereby it is kind of useless in terms of this specific exhibition. The website also doesn't have any information catalogue for the exhibitions. Things you can't do inside the gallery: No videos and selfies please! You may take photos of the artworks preferably without the use of a flash. Please don't make a chaos inside as the ambience is very peaceful as is required to view and understand such pieces of art. Overall it was a fantastic experience but the drawbacks kept us looking for more information about the excellent pieces of art we just viewed.

Very spacious, great art works from various artists. The building is as pretty as the art pieces. Entrance fees is twenty rupees, which is next to nothing for seeing such amazing artworks. Quite a peaceful place, there’s a cafe here as well.

Fun place to visit for art lovers. The sculpture collection is amazing but the painting collection was not as great when I visit. Since the whole building is a restored mansion it’s a beautiful spot for architectures as well

With only rs.20 you can can experience a soothing vibe by visiting the art gallery. They have free cloak room for depositing bags and extra stuff. They also have cafeteria for hunger. Overall a worth going place.

Great exhibits! Great quotes by Tagore on the walls, miniature paintings by Bireswar sen drawn to perfection. Beautiful staircases and extremely hygienic premises in the backdrop of lush canopied trees and sculptures. Must visit over the weekends.

Starts at 11am, you can buy tickets at the entry gate. Free for students below 18years. ₹20 for visitors and ₹500 for foreigners. You will get lockers to keep your belongings and at the entry you will get to see the wooden carved jewellery boxes which are amazing and all the painting at the start are real. As you move further you will get to see different paintings and sculptures. The mirror Lake, no one notices it as it is not maintained. And the copper car which i liked the most there. Staff is very nice and polite. You cannot take photos at first two halls as the painting and jewellery boxes are real and we'll preserved. And the canteen inside is very good. The taste is also better. Overall the place is good, calm and peaceful maintained.

Entry fee is only 20 rupees. The whole space is quiet and well structured. There is also one cafe which is present inside their premises. The museum is also good and there are quite a bit things to see inside.

The ticket is ₹20 only per person. For that price the place was very good and it was a very good experience. You can click pictures of the art only. They have cafe also and clean washrooms too. The staff was polite and helpful.

National Gallery of Modern Art is an art gallery in Bangalore. It was inaugurated in the year 2009. It showcases modern Indian art and houses paintings by Raja Ravi Verma, Jamini Roy, Amrita Sher-Gil, Rabindranath Tagore and a large number of modern and contemporary artists.Equipped with an auditorium, a public art reference library, a cafeteria, and a museum shop cum facilitation block, the NGMA Bengaluru looks ahead to becoming a hub of art activities and a major cultural centre at Bengaluru. The gallery organizes and hosts talks on art and culture by speakers, seminars, film screenings as well as workshops and guided walks throughout the year. The new exhibition space is marvellous as I specifically love the light wells, providing a moody dramatic effect to the everlasting exhibition halls. It’s an excellent example of adaptive reuse in architecture and I wish more are more buildings emerge like this. The tickets are very cheap and I was able to get in free due to some speciality of the week. There is also a cafe which has some good food. There is also more than 3 courtyards that help the nature get into the views, mainly highlighting the sunlight, vegetation shadow etc. A great place to visit for both architecture and art students.

Beautiful building, amazing greenery … good spread of paintings … would have been better if there was some narrative on the paintings for the laymen :)
