Review Thomsons Bakery - Bengaluru

Rajesh Rajendran
This is one of iconic bakeries in Bangalore. What I liked the most is they priced items in reasonable range. You get apple pie for 90Rs. Its one of few places that still makes it. They have variety of bakery items. I really enjoyed this place. If I had to say one negative thing about this place, it would be service. You have to stand for long time for the people to serve. But that's not a big deal.

Simple, humble and beautiful is what I would describe this bakery. Been having the plum cake since 10-15 years. Every December I would pay a visit without fail.

Landmark of Frazer town with history. Still gives vibes of a simple bakery with regular tasty bakery items ( puffs, rolls, breads etc). Famous for its iconic plum cake.

I remember vaguely , reading about this bakery somewhere, so when I was crossing this place I quickly recognized. However , parking right opposite was not possible hence we went a little ahead , only I got down. The moment you get inside , you know you are in a place which has stood the test of time , proudly. There were so many options of bread , cookies and for that price - I wondered if I had time travelled. Picked up a flower shaped bread, an eclair, a custard cookie 🍪 & packet of macarons all for INR 78.

Didn't get to meet Santa Claus? No big deal! Christmas isn't the same without their plum cakes. The best plum cake I have tasted. It has everything - rum, plums (what more do you need?)

For over 20 years now our family always buys the Rich Plum Cakes. It's the best I have ever had, nothing comes close and we have tried all the popular ones. This cake will always be special - taste has been consistent over the years. My childhood will always be sweeter with these memories. This cake is moist, wonderful blend of spices and sweetness as well. An event I look forward to every Christmas time.

Bangalore, once a Garrison centre during the Britishers, is dotted with excellent bakeries. Especially during Xmas, along with the colours and lights that brighten up homes and streets, there also wafts into the air, the delicate aromas of the the special Christmas cakes. Many Anglo Indian and Mangalore Christians, have still preserved the family secrets of these most delicious cakes. But these are for their family functions and parties. If you want to celebrate with large gatherings, Thomsons Bakery is the place. During the month December, they bake them in thousands. And sell them as fast as they bake them. It is absolutely the best Christmas cakes on such a large scale. With care they can be stored safely for over 6 months. Their single pieces, carefully wrapped, with cream or without are excellent for any occasions. It is open through the year. Go for it!!!

Last updated: 14-Jan-2022. I revisited Thompson's Bakery in December 2021 to buy cakes. Nothing much has changed and it looks just the same as when I visited it last in December, 2020. I additionally learned that Thompson's plum cakes will last upto 2 months without going bad. The standard store packing is strong and good enough to give to a courier as it is, without additional packing. ======================== Earlier review dated 15-Dec-2020 Nice little place but old. Their main product appears to be "Rich Plum Cake," as there is plenty of it in the store and little of anything else! But, maybe, I found it like that because it was Christmas season when I visited it. Their plum cake seems to be famous all over South India and I was buying one to send as a gift to a family friend in Chennai who had specifically requested it. Although an "ancient" bakery in Bangalore, it's just a small single room. Also please remember that there's no parking place nearby.

Classic old school bakery with a decent fare. Their speciality is the Christmas plum cake, which is quite good. All other bakes also taste great there, barring a few antiquated items like the cream-filled-cones and the Japanese cake which is just filled with shortening based cream frosting, which tastes terrible and unhealthy. The only thing that annoys me is the fact that they are closed for long afternoon breaks every day. That is so strange and can be frustrating if you drove all the way just to that place.

We've shopped here for at least 20 years now. Their pastry and bread options are commendable. Plum cake is something you can't just resist. Christmas time is a good time to treat yourself to some goodies

A small family run bakery tucked away in a corner close to the Wheeler Road flyover. I had to visit this place after I read about the plum cakes in this blog "goyajournal.in". Red boxes of Plumcakes stacked all over the shop. It looked as though the whole bakery was covered in red, giving that Xmas and holiday feel! The other oven fresh savories hit the shelves only at 3:30 PM. The plumcake tasted great. I liked the char on the cake thanks to the traditional wood fire oven that they use. Sadly no eggless variety of the plumcakes unlike Fatima Bakery.
