Review Hotel Sri Saravana Bhavan - Bengaluru

Thinaan Vendi Jeevikyunu
If looking for a quick meal or dosa and Types of Vadas with some amazing coffee, hop in here! Items are freshly prepared and the stall needs to be bit covered to avoid gushing dust. Whatever, it's commercial Street and this can be a perfect south Indian Street food joint.

Amazing dosa masala and chutneys that were slightly spicy. Less than $1 for the dosa but you need to pay in cash!

A decent place to enjoy sounth Indian meal. Liked the taste of red chutney. Pongal is authentic. The filter coffee was not up to the mark. Ambience was neat and clean.

A small Tamilian restaurant which is packed throughout the day. They are open from early morning till late night. Go there if you are looking for typical tamilian dishes like idlis, dosas, pongal. I love the chutney and sambar there. The place is quite clean compared to the other restaurants nearby and easy on the pockets too.
Barkavi
This extremely small restaurant on the crowded by lanes of the BTM Layout knows how to dish up Tamil Breakfasts like a boss. I absolutely loved their flaky thin dosas, with podi and the delicious chutney for accompaniments.

The taste is far from the local Karnataka, and hence might not appeal to your taste buds if you compare directly. But they do a good job in delivery taste on par with Tamil counterparts. The service is super fast, and everyone seems super friendly.

They also very innovative classic dishes like Curry Leaf Podi Dosa, Vallarai Podi Dosa, Idli Upma! Definitely recommended for breakfast options. Light on the pocket. They are a small restaurant, but they seem to take care of hygiene aspects also.
Pradheep Padmanathan
A quick value for money restaurant serving Tamil foods like dosa parotta and meals. No frills and friendly servers. Just a casual dining place for everyday dinner.

Introduction

One of the good authentic south Indian restaurant in Bangalore ! Been there for so long and probably been on the good books of few of the foodies iv known. Guess i just had to try it for myself for real and see if it could beat my all time favorite south Indian cuisine stops. Well wasn't disappointing i would say, but id still stick to my other favorite for now.Β

Ambiance

Rush ! Rush ! Rush !! Just too much rush too crowded. I personally found it very difficult to adjust to the seating areas, it was way too small and congested. Probably if you think on getting a pick up, that certainly sounds better..way better !It has a small open serving/ kitchen and there might be chances you land up sharing tables like i did (which i might be a little to). Also it has a small teas stall outside so in case you planned on grabbing a quick bite outside along with a cup of tea, its perfect !

Audience

I saw a lot of bachelors hitting this place (probably struggling to get the brunch on a weekend :P). A family restaurant too with people of all ages came over. What was even more surprising was that the north Indian crowd was definitely more than the localities, which lets me think it is a quite famous one among them :)

Cuisine

South Indian - everything from Idlis to dosai, authentic chutneys, poori bhajis and vadas, pongal to tea, and to my surprise i also got my hands on my favorite iddiyappams with sweet coconut milk (which is usually unavailable after a certain time slot in most places) !!So on the menu, you will get a wide variety of this cuisine, no doubt to that .

Cost

Oh don't even try giving it a 2nd thought please, this is the most affordable place (no wonder i see so many bachelors here ~JK). We ordered 3 idlis, 2 masala dosas, 1 vada, iddiyappam with coconut milk and a bottle Β of water and the bill was just Rs 175/- INR (shocked!!). Absolutely low on cost compared to the food served.

Service

What was amusing was that in spite of such crowd, the attention to every customer was undivided. They will make sure you are attended to for all things, unlike other places they also prefer keeping unlimited chutneys on each table for the customer's convenience on taking that extra quantity.

Food

The food was good! Fresh and simple flavors, served decently hot and combined with options of sides, the flavors were minimal yet tasty, just like home !

My Verdict

Taste : 8/10

Ambiance : 5/10

Service : 8/10

Monetary Value : 9/10

Recommendations

Definitely should try once, it’s a pretty decent place and I am sure you will like it. Apart from the sitting area issues, i don't think there is much id point out for the cons. Overall verdict counts to 8/10 !!!

*Disclaimer : The opinions are totally personal and may vary with individual choices and preferences

They open at 6.30 am. Very friendly people. I actually come here for the sambar and chutney. They are delicious. All items are tasty and affordable.

Best item on the menu is Ghee roast, at least for me.

It's a small hotel that serves decent South Indian fare. We went here around 10 PM and tried their Idlis (mildly hot) and their Ginger Garlic Dosa.Β

The dosa was yummy and something I hadn't tasted so far. Like any typical South Indian joint, 2 chutneys and a Sambar came with the dishes - I still can't get the Sambar taste out of my mouth

I have always known Saravana Bhavan as a Tamil style breakfast place, located usually outside Tamilnadu, making it an eatery serving food with the concept of home outside home.

This Saravana Bhavan located in BTM was a little disappointing, the Idlis, sambhar and chutney especially. There are many better options available these days, this Saravana Bhavan didn't seem authentic. The dosa was better but not the best! Pricing is reasonable for a breakfast place. The coffee was alright, I prefer the darshini style filter coffee better.
The service was quick, but I would skip this place the next time.

I love Tamil style brekkie & always happy to eat those Idlys & thin dosas with coconut chutney. I happened to been here around 7pm & tried both of my favourites Ghee Masala Dosa & Idly. However, I was unhappy with Idly. It was too hard & not my kind of Idly & dosa size was huge & tastes great. The coconut chutney was spoiled & management did not bother to respond my concern. The place looks like Darshini. The place is occupied with corporate crowd. Will I go again? Definitely not!

One of the endless list of Sarvana Bhavans u ll visit in South India, this place also has that typical list of dishes you have when in South India.. Since I do not really love those, curd rice just feels fine :) well but to recommend from reviews of people, this place will serve you just about right if good south indian food is what you are looking for.!

Was surprised to find this in listing. Have seen this shop being build in front of me. Had been my frequent outing destination for night time dosa- mushroom dosa, strong coffee and not to forget kottu parantha. Kottu parantha is made with chopped up Kerala parantha mixed with onion chilli and some spicy chutney with variant of egg being added or not. The chicken variant is best but not available here. They don't make it everyday. But they oblige me many time anlt night when I head to it irrespective if its in days menu or not. Dosa is yum. Sambar is spicy and tangy, Tamil style. Look out for two variant of extra chutney they serve. This place is not a dine out variety. But good food at good price with quick service. Hygiene is ok, not great. Parking for two wheeler is tough to get being on busy Maruthi nagar main road. Enjoy!!! Value for money.

Awesome Samber, white and red chutney. Dosa are so mouthwatering and crispy. Though its not hi fi restaurant but quality and taste is not at all compromised.Loved it.

One of my favourite and preferred place on a weekend to have idli, vada or Pongal or poori or dosa. The dosa by 'Dosa Das ukg' as he says so, are crispy roasted and just mouth watering to resist. The most notable point here is you will have the coconut chutney and red chutney (tomato n onion mix. There is also something special about their tea. You can't resist once you have it. You want to drink it every time.

South Indian food cannot get better than this place. No matter where you go, you still are able to get the same taste, quality and warmth of the place. No trip down south can be complete without visiting here.
The variety and the quality is not compromised and that's what draws me to this place.

Good place for south Indian dishes. Have separate kitchen for veg and non veg. Friendly staff. Small place but taste is good. Filter water used. Crowded in the peak hours.
