Review date 2023 December Location:MSR College Road in Bengaluru Tried twice in two days. Porotta is crispy and tasty. Beef roast is also fine but contains bad pieces. The fish curry was good. The restaurant won't disappoint you Putt and beef are famous here. we didn't get a chance to have it since around noon time it was not available. Service : served wet plates Only a single waiter and who is not well connected with customers

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Calicut, located on MSR College Road in Bengaluru, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. The restaurant offers a delightful combination of friendly staff, quality food, and generous portions that left me thoroughly satisfied. One of the standout aspects of Calicut is its warm and welcoming staff. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with genuine smiles and prompt service. The staff members were attentive, knowledgeable about the menu. When it comes to the food, Calicut certainly knows how to impress. The quality of the dishes served here is truly remarkable. The Kerala meals, in particular, are top-notch and showcase the authentic flavors of Kerala cuisine. The traditional Puttu and Beef combination is an absolute delight, with tender, well-cooked beef perfectly complementing the light and fluffy Puttu. This mouth-watering combination is a must-try for any food enthusiast. Another dish that caught my attention was the Kappa with Beef. The combination of tapioca (kappa) and flavorful beef creates a unique and delicious taste. The tender chunks of beef blend perfectly with the soft and subtly flavored kappa, resulting in a truly memorable culinary experience. I highly recommend giving this dish a try during your visit to Calicut. However, it's important to note that parking can be a challenge near Calicut. Due to its popularity and limited parking spaces in the vicinity, finding a spot for your vehicle might require some effort and patience. Overall, Calicut on MSR College Road in Bengaluru is a gem of a restaurant. The friendly staff, quality food, and generous portions make for a delightful dining experience. Whether you're a fan of Kerala cuisine or simply looking to explore new flavors, Calicut is definitely worth a visit. Just remember to plan ahead for parking to ensure a hassle-free experience.

We had breakfast with my family and konda kadala curry was not that good for appam and puttu... Maybe it tastes good with non veg. And very wet plates were served which was not in a good manner to treat the customer.

Actually I am vegetarian this restaurant looks good for non veg people but i tell one thing about it i tried 2 recipes here those are paneer and mushroom butter masala the flavour of these recipe are well managed and taste good to have and the restaurant ambiance feels like homely.....

A great place to have Kerala food. Only problem is no parking space available. But can manage to park cars behind the restaurant. Must try beef when you are going. The best place in Bangalore to have beef items.

The food is delicious, the service is good. I visited this place in 2017 during my course of Corporate BBA + MBA at GEMS B School, Bangalore.

The last time we went there it was a disappointment. This time it was different! The biriyani was simply amazing. The chicken lolipop was great and appams were good too. Even the lime juice and lime tea was extra good. I'll definitely be coming back here.

Good food and service. I had Iddyappam a nd Kadla curry. The taste and price is good. Iddyappam - β‚Ή12 each Kadla curry - β‚Ή50/per bowl (one serving)

Good for breakfast food. Malabar style curries are the highlight. Conventional dosais and roasts are also available. Enjoy the food at a better ambience. The wall of the restaurant is painted with the history of Calicut, the place in Kerala by which the restaurant itself is named after. The restaurant has an open kitchen, you are always welcome to watch your order being cooked. Various Kerala style lunch is also available with chicken and fish biriyani on the menu. Fish fry meals is also available.

This place is a little shack with one or two seated dining tables located on the main road, opposite to MS Ramaiah hospital. The best dish of morning breakfast here is masala dosa & rice bath. The dosa is Crispy and well roasted with mildly spiced aloo palya & coconut chutney to go with. The rice bath is flavourful & filling. The home delivery is not that great but to dine in, its good. The idlys here are soft and hygienic & recommendable to the patients at the hospital.

Found bandage in the Mushroom Noodles that i had ordered. It was disgusting experience from Sri Ganesh Darshan restaurant.. so cheap! My dinner was ruined! Lost the trust from Zomato too that it allows such negligence, and all you get isln return from them is 20-25 credits.. Health is important guy's, not the money!
Jwalesh Jain
I had ordered veg biryani and Paneer curry... Both had so much oil in it... No one can eat it, had to throw it and Zomato also didn't take responsibility to give refund of such pathetic quality food....

I had Dosa and idly. Idly was very nice. The Sambar was not at the level I expected. Chutney tastes good. But the Dosa was too oily. I have informed them to use less oil but they poured more oil. So I didn't liked that. Overall good to eat. Worth for money. It will be good if they cook the food as customer expectation.

I ordered
Idly vada
Puri sagu
Rice bath

Rice bath is horrible very worst taste and chautny is expired how dare you to give such food to us . I like Puri sagu
Rajendra
I asked for paneer butter masala, paneer was there but hardly 7/8 pieces. no butter and No masala, got too much red colour and water only taste was horrible "totally west money, can't suggest for anybody go there "hate This place.

My sister was so hungry and she has ordered to deliver:-

1 Thatte Idli
1 Rava Idli
1 Kesari bath

Thatte Idli is really good as we didn't expect it would go well. The Rava idli is served with Sago and coconut chutney. The taste of Sago is still lingers after many hrs. I must recommend this one.

I was lit disappointed with Chutney as It was not thick and I could only taste coconut a little. Moreover, the besan flour is added to chutney, which tastes raw! I would suggest them to add fried gram, as regular how one makes a chutney, and ground it with more coconut.

I was also disappointed with Kesari as I don't find any trace of pineapple. Though it tasted good, the sugar is mild and it felt good.

I should try their morning breakfast items!
Diana Caucean
Ordered vada sambar for breakfast.. Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside.. Sambar tested great as well... Good amount of sambar and chutney was given...And kesari bath was also fine... Decent place to order breakfast
Manish
Don't expect good ambience but good food can be expected from the restraunt!
The paneer noodles and parota curry is what I liked the most over here.

Easy to spot this place. Busy most of the time as prices are reasonable and food is fresh and tasty. Breakfast is the best. Lunch, snacks and dinner is also available.
Aishu :p
Ordered again ... Quantity and quality was amazing for the price paid

Ordered plain dosa and idly vada.
Sambar was very tasty and vada was crispy even after the long journey it made from kitchen to our home (32 min) ... Plain dosa was okk .. just cz of sambar this rating .. everything wuld hv tasted very bland without this tasty sambar.
Himanshu Midha
Small place but almost all type of south indian food and for a casual food.
Almost all food is awesome specially Dosa, Rasam and Filter coffee.
Good place for all the student those who are staying near to Ramaiah.
Noor S (noorinfoodistan.wordpress.com)
No chutney for Rava idli?
No chutney for Pakora bhajjis?
No raitha for veg biryani?

This was just abt items that weren't provided.
Coming to the taste n quality of food:

Rava idli: Just OK, bland..didn't taste any tempered seasoning on it!
Saagu: Real bad..kinda salty n overpowered with some spice although there were some good amount of veggies.
Bhajjis: Better than the other items but couldn't enjoy as no chutney was provided.
Veg biryani: Goodness!! Coloured, bland kinda bad veg fried rice. There were no veggies other than half fried onions n spring onions.

I'm quite amused how r there some good ratings for this place. It supposedly serves good South Indian food n I didn't taste anything good about the south Indian items ordered.

Dear restaurant staff:
When u provide food delivery option, it's not just about "delivery". There should be "all items" provided that are part of the said dish.
Pls work on quality n taste of the food too!

Never again here!

Have ordered a couple of time through Swiggy, the food is much better than what you get in near by breakfast joints, The Masala dosa is good, but very bad portion of the potato filling in the dosa, 3 bites & the filling is over, the sambar is pretty decent, the set dosa is good too, don't like the Korma they serve with it, heavy hints of cinnamon which burns the taste buds before you realise any another flavours in it. Over all decent breakfast joint in Sanjaynagar.

Okay so I didn't know this place was all the way in Sanjaynagar. We ordered breakfast from here on a Sunday morning from Swiggy. The order took the same amount of time that was mentioned on the app.
The food is tasty and the pricing is on par with the usual darshinis.
Well the set dosa we ordered was super soft and garnished adequately. The idlis were soft and fluffy as well. The vadas were average as they weren't brown enough and crispy enough. The Chow Chow bath was delicious with the Upma being cooked and spiced well and the kesari baath having the right amount of sweetness with pieces of pineapple.
The sambhar was slightly sweet like any other Bangalore sambhar but the chutney was spicy so it made up for the sambhar.
First time was a satisfactory experience.

Good. Just worth the money. Good for a casual eat out or order. Masala dosa and thatte idli were very good. Curd vada was watery but not bad

Best part of visiting this part of Bengaluru is vast option of Darshini type restaurants. One such is Sri Ganesh Darshan.
Location is a big plus point as it's on main road and right opposite MSR gate. Place is very tiny and gets noisy because of the main road factor.
Have tried Dosa, Idly with vada and on one occasion pulao. All of which was good.
Filter coffee (kaapi) is a must have!!

this is a small eatery at the junction in front of the ramaiah . being in Β front of ramaiah crossing and is popular with people who want a quick fix with their breakfast and a hot pipping coffee .
the also serve traditional south indian snacks .
the friend Kingshuk took me here for the first time when we were short on cash and we had roti curry which had 2 tandoori rottis with a curry and dal.
it was awesome and good for the price. though you had to stand and eat but it had a casual feel and we could have quick meals when short of time .
Saleem Umar
One of the tastiest sambar. The hotel is quite small, nothing fancy but the food is very tasty. It's also very clean and hygienic. The prices are quite cheap.
Ankesh Mishra
Classic Darshini style place but with a somewhat large menu for the small kitchen and restaurant itself. It is probably an economic go to for many people in the area. I like the variety they serve despite the rush. All noodles taste the same and if you don't like oily food, don't order the noodles. The servings are huge for noodles and fried rice. Add Gobi manchurian and you will probably need a friend's help. The service is not as prompt for 'Chinese' stuff. The regular meals and South or North Indian items are served promptly. By served I mean at the counter... Self service.
Ajay Arora (foodntraveldiaries.in)
This place is a trimmed down version of the adiga's style of hotels. Located at a convenient location near the Geddalahalli bus stop in Sanjay Nagar - this place is a stand and eat kind of a resto with very limited tables ( I would rather not call it tables but few seats where one can sit and eat ).

Its a self-service style of serving - need to place the order and pay the bill to the cashier and then grab your food from the counters post handling over the bill copy. Food is OK - not great. The idli, vada and dosa are standard quality that one would expect from similar type of resto's. Not a full fledged dine -in place.

Would give the vada's a thumbs up of the dishes served there. Meals come to a distant second.

Service wise - the waiting time depends on the food thats been ordered and its negligible, Ambience is pretty poor with a road full of traffic just two steps away. Best way would be to get a take away and eat in piece at home.

Will i go again ? Well this place is kind of a sunday breakfast option and not really a place i would consider as a resto for a dine-in ( which it is not !1) .Visit only during food emergencies and if you staying really close by to this place.
