Went there with a friend for dinner,it was a great experience. Amazing view and polite staff.. Food taste can be better in comparison to price. Rest ambiance and everything was good
Purva Rathi
I stay here due to my university work, room are fine, room service is nice as per say, food is also nice, view to the lake is beautiful, in all 3,4days stay one thing I don't like thay don't offer water in there lounge u need to ask for it , it's a very old bulding, all over I would love to visit again in person.
Abhay Mudholkar
Great location on the hill in Bhopal. Good food. Good service. They have to take care of hot water on tap. To get hot water one has to waste a lot of cold water esp. during winter.
Shashwat Mishra
I simply love the view from here. I can see the sunset everyday and possibly never get bored. ❤️🍻🤗

This hotel is located on the bank of bada talab and is very scenic. Rooms are spacious and maintenance is ok. The buffet breakfast is also nice. Room service is good. Lot of parking space. If you get lake view room, it is beautiful. Staff is good and promot. Overall a good hotel by MP Tourism.

Excellent Location , Food n Services. Excellent Hotel view

Overlooking the Bhopal Lake, mesmerizing view. Rooms are dated but the staff makes up with service. Food is also good specially in the rooftop restaurant while breakfast was below standard

Very Beautiful Lake View from 4th Floor Rooms.
Anil Aggarwal
Stayed for 2 nights in Nov 2021 during our MP TRIP. Nice property, courteous staff. Breakfast good but need more varieties. Few special things in hotel 1 Rooftop restaurant on 5th floor with super lake views 2 Drive in theatre, daily 3 shows from 6PM onwards 3 Bhopal express rail coach restaurant Suggestion Bathroom needs improvement particularly concerning senior citizens Otherwise fully satisfied.
Yogesh Sharma
Very good Lakeside Hotel, staff are well trained and humble. Rooms are specious but poorly maintained. A beautiful Restaurant is situated on the top floor of the hotel which gives a beautiful look of the lake.
Kajal Jain
I had a very good experience. They were at their best from every aspect considering their food, rooms and room service, the decorations etc. And the most important was the view of lake which is just mesmerizing. I was in awe for that. I will strongly suggest this place for good ambiance and services overall.
Indu Saraswat
Nice view of lake and delicious meal is available. However the service is not so good. The stay in the hotel is comfortable being in the center of the city it's easy to visit various offices.

I ordered kadhai paneer and dal fry.
Both had salt in excess...
They took 18% tax instead of 5%(not sure why?) ...
The jeera rice sucked too. Kankar nikal rahe the usmein se...

Bhopal Express, the Shaan-E-Bhopal is the world’s first restaurant that has been built inside a renovated broad gauge railway coach. Enjoying food here is like a musical journey with delicious food in train. Its ambiance is the most unique, nature all around and it’s very clean and hygienic. Its chole chat samosa and seekh kabab is the very tasty and unique.
Syed Beenish
Nice place and excellent food. Especialy mutton and kebabs i liked most. The train kind of environment gives a nice feeling, the delivery time of food is little delay .overall gd experience

Going by the name the whole ambience is centered around the Indian railway theme! You'll see the station and then the train inside which they have the dine-in seating arrangement. And the feel of station and a train doesn't just get over with it but the view from window which is animated and movements of compartment are all dynamic to give you the real experience of sitting inside a train. That's quite unique thing found in a restaurant in Bhopal.

I had paneer tikka, veg seekh kebab, palak paneer, igatpuri bhindi and kaju curry ! Everything right from the way crockeries were set up to the taste of the food were great. Staff was courteous.
Overall happy and would #recommend to visit with family for dinner.
Mayankk Devkarr
Fantastic place with a really unique concept of railway bogie transformed into a dining space.
The food here is amazing especially the meat dishes, "murgh rihana deccan queen" here was heavenly. The service is also extremely good and the ambience will definitely make your dining experience better.
Sourav Mukhopadhyay
Ambience of this restaurant is quite nice....you dine within train compartments. Decor is great...staffs are helpful and courteous. The taste of the foods can be improved as the Bhuna Gosth I ordered, appeared to be little bitter probably due to overcooking of the onions. Apart from that, this place is nice for a themed dinner experience
Kushal Shah
Very interesting and unconventional ambience! Food was delicious, specially the Aloo Dum! Also liked their tandoori roti, which was made largely of Atta instead of pure Maida. Staff was very courteous and prompt. Highly recommended!

Visited this place after reading the very good reviews on various sites. One thing is sure, the experience was beyond my expectations. The ambience of this restaurant is great. I ordered veg biryani and kurkuri bhindi which were delicious. Phirni was the best dessert they served. Definitely up for a second visit.

Best place in bhopal. Awesome food with enough quantity and best quality. Everything was best. Staff was polite and well behaved. Also nice location. Food was affordable.
Suman Dutta
The ambience is good, but the foods are overpriced. Sitting area inside the train compartment is not that big, so you might have to wait for some time. Air-conditioning doesn't work, so inside the compartment it is very hot and humid.
Rabina
Ambience was so so awesome. Food was quite ok . Staff was also nice . I’m not satisfied with food but I’m happy with the ambience and staff behaviour.
Ankita Singh
This place gives you quite unique vibes, you will get the Indian Railway experience and ambience. The food is quite tasty although quantity is not so much but you will definitely satisfy your taste buds. Whether you order veg or non-veg the quality of food is amazing. You will also enjoy the sounds and visuals they play during your meal.

Amit
A very nice experience as the restaurant is design in railway boggy style. the food is also comparative Good, the atmosphere was pleasant. the place was spacious and the service was ok ok. one time must try place.
Priyam JAIN
A restaurant in rail compartment. Yes, Bhopal Express is, indeed, a restaurant, which has been set up in a compartment of a train named Bhopal Express. This restaurant, currently, is the part of Hotel Lake View Ashoka and served various cuisines , which are perfect for gourmans
Siddharth Maheshwari
I went with my friends at 3 PM and according to Zomato the restaurant should be open but the waiters did not attend us for sometime. After 10 minutes, one of the staff members came and told us that the kitchen is closed. I did not like the service.
Medha Shukla
This place has an amazing ambience and location. You can visit with family, friends everyone. It's a perfect place to host an event and also for casual parties. Also the food is yummy along with the service. Must visit.

Once i went there...there were no chef ... so i had to comeback without having lunch...& That was very much disappointing.... please solve these kinds of issues.... because these little things will add something for the betterment of your service...thank you...!!

It's a nice restaurant under Madhya Pradesh Tourism department.
Good food at affordable price.
Good behaving staffs. (Surprising thing)
Abience is great. You can experience rail coach dining. Well maintained place.

Overall a good experience.
Especially I love the chicken Tikka. 😋😋

Amita Shrivastava
Awesome Food and fantastic ambience. True feeling of a rail coach 😻 Perfect blend of flavours and that too at a reasonable price 👌🏻 Service is good and staff is courteous😊 Must visit for all rail coach lovers ❤️
KHUSHBU BASWANI
The best taste you can find in Bhopal. Amazing flavours and above service was appealing. We couldn't find a table outside so we sat in bar to wait while my father had his drink and the person who attended us offered us to eat our food here only. I definitely recommend it
just now

Went for my son's birthday. After visting this place was a mixed experience.
Pros: Location, Ambience was really great. If you want to have some different experience it was good.
Cons: Talking about food i ordered Paneer chilly & seekh kabab veg, starter was good.
Main course was patheitic. Malai kofta didnt like at all. Ordered dal tadka, wondered whtether they served old obe or they dont know how to make. One suggestion please go and check to other restaurant how dal was made.
Costly compare to quantity and quality.
Phirni was good.
Gulab Jabun 2 for 100 that too seems like they just heated Haldirams gulab jamun in microwave and served.
Overall disaapointed with food.
If you want visit the place for different ambience and experince then go for it, but food was not upto the mark for veggies.
Dont know about non veg.

ASTHA SHUKLA
I have been here few months back and I literally like the concept of this lavish restaurant where you get a feel of Maharaja Express. I would surely like to visit this place again.

This place is amazing in all aspects. Delicious food, beautiful ambience and excellent service. Totally worth the money. You get to dine inside a train compartment or you can dine outside too. Both have that royal touch. Great place to take your family with you
Priyanka Pillai Manchanda
Lovely place.. the setup is absolutely amazing. The cutlery is all brass and the food is brilliant. It's a little over-priced for a city like Bhopal but it's worth it all. The staff can be trained further. Otherwise, a good place to go to.
Mayank Dandotiya
A nice and quiet place for family dinner. Kudos for the ambience and the theme. Good food and worth every penny. A must visit for everyone at least once.
Do try the chaas, it will surely increase your appetite.
Imran Khan
Ambience is based on railway theme with live music and you feel like, you are traveling in the royal train. Restaurant has good delicious food with different varieties and the service is very slow.
Mounamukhar Das
A perfect theme based family restaurant where you get to dine inside an actual train compartment. The place is very well developed as it has track and wheelchair facility for differently abled people.
We mainly ordered North Indian dishes like biriyani, garlic naan, mutton and chicken dishes. In the dessert we had firni which was different from the typical firni we have in Mughlai restaurants.
The food was really good though few dishes were bit spicy.
Their service was very prompt and courteous.
Mehfuz Rahman
Ambience - 9.5
Food - 7.5
Service - 8.0
Value for money - 7.5
Foods are served in small portions. Live music is the main attraction.
Recommended - kadhai chicken and biryani
Nidhi Sharma
What can be better than re-live a train experience... clean, simple, and yet full of ambiance and service better than a Railway waiter... Bhopal Express has good delicious food that reminds you of all the train journeys you might have taken.
If in Bhopal a must visit.
The tomato soup was one of the best I have had and mutton biryani was delicious as was the phirni.
Simranjit Kumar Nayak
Spectacular ambience, delicious dishes, unmatched service: everything a perfect restaurant need. Just loved this place. One of the best restaurant in Bhopal.
Vaibhav Jain
The whole restaurant is set up in a train called shaan-e-bhopal express, set up is so perfect that you feel a different way of having the food. Ambiance is quiet good and peaceful. we took only veg. began ka salan is their must try dish. overall food is very tasty. service can be improved.
Tracy Lyngdoh
Visited Bhopal Express for fine dining with a group of friends and the experience was worth it. The whole set up is in the form of a train which makes it all the more exciting. There is live music playing soulful hindi songs apt for any hindi music lover. Coming to the food, right from the soup down to the main course the food was so rich and appetising. Due credit to be given to the mutton soup ( can't recall the name!) which was more of a stock and was absolute heavenly. Very courteous staff and good service. Would definitely be looking forward to more visits.
Pooja Verma
Yummy food
Good ambiance
Friendly staff
Delicious chicken biryani and sizzlers was amazingly tasty and yum, must try
Loved the place totally must try
Vikas Singh
The best railway themed restaurant in the country. It is also world's first broad gauge railway restaurant. The best thing about this place is the old world railway charm. The interiors have been done beautifully to replicate actual coach. The outside seating area is nice and airy. There is also an old Semaphore signal to add to the effect. The items on menu also have interesting railway names like Ramgotty Raita and Bhor Ghat special kadhai paneer.
Aditi Shakya
Restaurant in a train.
Ambience is good and food is kind of Okay.
Service is not up to the mark.
Overall it was a good experience.
Must a visit.

Place is amazing, the staff and manager are very friendly and they try to accommodate as per your requirements, we've had so many parties here and keep on going back.
The food is delicious and the quality is very well maintained. 4.5/5
Ambience - 5/5
Staff- 4.5/5

The food is also not so spicy, therefore my grandparents also love going back again n again.
The place n food are awesome. After my first visit, I made it a point to take my every guest once to this place. I'm a vegetarian, 'mirchi-baingan ka salan' is my all time fav. Staff is so polite and well behaved. Service is a bit slow, but that has it's reason: every dish is cooked freshly n served. I have a couple of sweet incidents to share-
once on my visit, the indoor (coach) area was fully reserved, and I was really disappointed with the thought of returning w/o food with a guest with me. Seeing this, they allowed me a seat in bar area, generally not open during lunch and one attendant took special care to see that we were being served.
Another time, I had a small kid among my guests who was damn hungary n cranky as a result. The ordered food was taking some time as usual, I requested to serve some cucumber salad (the kid's fav) in the meantime. It was amazing to see them serving salad non-stop to the kid, till the food was ready!
Whenever I have taken any new guest/friend there, they come out so impressed, that they also start taking their guests to this place.
Ambience, as the name suggests, is unique, in an old train coach!
Price is more than value for money, reason being it is a part of MP tourism, hence a govt. run place.
Kudos!
Julie Bania
A placed designed by the government for tourist attraction and unique dinning experience. You have the feeling of enjoying your meal in a running train with nice ambiance and table arrangements. The food menu consists of indian and chinese dishes. I will recommend you to opt for the indian cuisines. The food is very normal however the names in the menu are very elegantly portrayed, so take recommendations from the waiter if you don't understand. I had mutton bhuna ghost, butter chicken, chilli chicken(starter), tandoori roti and soup. I felt only the mutton bhuna ghost was different so do try if you love mutton. A little expensive compared to the food but worth the ambiance experience. There is an outdoor seating option and live music by local artists too.
Food-3
Ambiance- 4
Service- 3.5
Dhaval Soni
It's a nice place operated by the government. Having a fine dine in a luxurious train coach. Amazing ambiance. Food is good here staff are very polite and soft spoken. Nice spread in menu. Had a very good experience.

Wow experience when you enter the location.
something different and really great its a train theme based restaurant and unique for its interior and layout.
For its ambiance full marks.
Sitting is comfortable and staff is welcoming and have smiling faces.
Food is good.hariali kabab is nice and fresh.
Main course is also delicious and light on stomach.
Highly recommended place for friends/family/couples

Had buffet lunch and dinner here..Was staying in Hotel Ashoka Lake view..The place is really good..they have converted a bogey of Indian railway into the restaurant.. they serve good north Indian food..their Dal and Mutton rogan josh was really good..Other things were good..A good place to visit.

Nice ambience which can u make u feel differently. We went for a veg dinner. Ordered few stuffs which was nice in taste. The taste was no so extraordinarily that the names tonne mentioned but yes the Veg biryani I had was a must must try. I have never ever liked veg biryanis but it was first time that i loved it. Salt was bit high on soup. Finger bowls came very late till the time out hands dried out. But overall nice experience and could be visited again. Total value for money.

Also known as rail restaurant, this is a concept restaurant built inside a railway coach. As the restaurant is situated just above Upper lake, in evenings it is better to sit outside and enjoy the cool breeze along with the live orchestra performance here. Though there is no novelty in dishes and they offer a typical north indian menu, all the dishes I had were having just perfect taste. Will recommend 'Bhindi Kurkuri' to the people visiting this place.
Sanmita Srivastava
As a tourist this place was close to the famous lake. It has unique ambience with a restaurant set up in a rail coach! Super classy menu, live ghazal and beautiful lawn with a small pan shop :) Perfect place with Family, friends and loved ones. Bhuna ghost was the best ordered delicacies.
Pulkit Lalwani
Nice ambience, located in the heart of bhopal. Just next to the famous lake. Service is great. Menu shows the style of bhopal.
The train boogie theme based restaurant with waiters and manager dressed like ticket checker gives the correct feel of train
Paawan Purswani

Car parking: 8/10 (It's a part of Hotel Lake View Ashok, so parking isn't an issue.)
Ambience: 8/10 (A rail coach in real has been turned into a restaurant. Do check a short store about the same right behind the cover page of the menu. Seating is there both inside the coach as well as outside. Once I sat outside and on my second visit, I sat inside the coach. Well, considering Bhopal's pleasant weather, sitting outside is much better. This is no match to Sahib Singh Sultan of Hyderabad but it's a simple restaurant)
Service: 7/10 (Staff weren't exceptional. They were all simple servers. Just order and they will get you that. Plain and simple. Service of orders is fast though. A main course meal could be served in about 5-10 minutes)
Taste: 7/10 (Its a North Indian cuisine restaurant. Lot of paneer dishes as usual and not much. Very limited variety. Almost every paneer dish tasted much like each other. Well, the food quality isn't bad but it's very basic hygienic food. I doubt if anyone would specially visit this place for food but for ambience.)
Price: About 500-700rs per person with drinks and without dessert
Nitin
An absolutely unique experience, go for it. Kids sure will have fun time with near authentic train ride experience. The food was good, and the service was good too. We went on a weekday hence it was not too crowded but weekends I believe have waitings which I hate especially when out to eat and enjoy myself. Go for it... It's different.
Smriti Singh
Ambience : 3/5 Food : 3/5 Staff : 3/5 Hygiene : 3/5

The only unique thing about this restaurant is that it looks like a train coach. Food is average in taste and they charge more as compared to the quantity of food served. Staff is not properly trained. Hygiene was OK. I didn't find anything special about this place.
Yogendra Sahoo
During my visit to Bhopal, we went to this amazing place... Bhopal express.... Build from train compartment... Really cool... Ambience is unique and good... Now let's talk about food.. Food quality was very good.. Today we only tried vegetarian dishes(thanks to my veggie cousins). We have ordered Kadai Panner, Bagain mirch ka salan, Panner hyderbadi...taste and quality were good. Starter were not good. Both soup and masala papads were not up to mark.. Service could have been little better... Overall good experience.

If you r looking for a different experience and a quality time with your loved ones, this is the perfect place. Go there and enjoy your perfect meal with wine and have a superb experience.
Shivani Bhawsar
A broad gauge train restaurant.. one of a kind in bhopal. The interior gave the chills like dining inside a royal train....the crockery ,the decoration everything was royal. The staff was humble.2k spent on a group of 8-9,So in short this place is quite reasonable. The food was tastyyy.Palak corn is their speciality. The paner was sweet and a disappointment but the dal tadka n makhani made up for it.
Soma Pradhan
An unusual experience. A restaurant setup inside a train coach, liveusic, frequent announcement, tv screen that displays constant movement as if train is moving and similaution to give a feeling that train is moving. Above all the food is awesome. Service can be better. Excellent setup or ambience. A fine dining experience and not so heavy to pocket. Went for a family dinner and had an awesome time.
Deeksha Bhatt
Love this place for the great interiors and the interesting choice in cutlery. For those sitting outside the train coach, live music is a good incentive. Food is good, and the staff polite. A unique experience.
Debadrita Das
Timeless concept of a train bogie being reincarnated as a restaurant - only to be shot down by the most pathetic service ever. Waiters passed on modified parts of our order to each other and didn't even stop to take our order. They prioritize larger groups of people to such an extent that they'll ignore you completely. We had to wait half an hour before they even got us water. It felt like they didn't even want us there. And in the end, they simply took away our food in the middle of me asking them to pack it. A fun evening at an innovative restaurant marred by shoddy service.
Sonali Singh
This place was different. Ambience was okay-ish,ac was not that effective. Service was pathetic so disappointing on that part. No doubt that the concept is awesome so thumbs up.Would definitely recommend to pay a visit but once.
Coming on food. It was good. Don't expect much from this place.
Sanahashmi89
Beautiful experience in the train express. Wonderful creation and unique in its way and surely one of a kind in bhopal. Food was okay-ish kind but worth a try.
Jai Sharma
Awesome Ambiance. Delicious Food. Great Service. Best in class theme Restorent in Bhopal. One Must Visit if you are or visiting Bhopal. Thanks Zomoto

As the name suggest they have converted the rail coach in to a restaurant , i was amazed to see how perfectly they have done.Food and services was also good.
Anmol Upadhyay
Erstwhile Shan-e-Bhopal and now Bhopal Express, this place is right what the name suggests. An actual train being converted to a theme restaurant. And you even get to see famous tourist places and hear the sound of the train if you visit in the evening hours. So full points on ambience and the feel.
Coming to the food part, the prices are a bit higher vis a via the food served. Not all is good enough. Hara Bhara Kabab, Kurkuri Bhindi were good. The drinks disappointed me.
Overall, a place perfect for family dinner. Dont ask for more, its just as much.
Prakhar Kumar
It was my mothers 59th birthday and all of us being at Bhopal to celebrate, we decided to head for this place. For years I wanted to experience this place as I had heard a lot about the uniqueness of the railway coach and the good food. One can sit both inside the coach or choose to sit outside on the platform.
Though it feels a little small from inside. But then it is supposed to be a coach.

We decided to sit inside and I would say its a decent place, especially sitting and eating in the coach which actually vibrated like an actual train when some of the kids ran around. Food is really good and what stood out in my order were 'Harayali kebab' which we all loved and the 'Bhore Ghat special Kadai Paneer' which was a little different experience for me in kadai paneer. Also tried 'Shatabdi Salad' which I felt missed the combination of taste with just too much mayonnaise.

The big thing missing was the prompt service as it seems there was a party in the front lawn of restaurant and there were not enough waiters to serve all.
Overall good experience and good food.
Leesha Guwalani
If you want to pamper yourself with a royal feel for a special dinner then this is the perfect place. The serving style is as unique as the interiors. In terms of food the place features among the top hotels in Bhopal. Being a vegetarian there are limited choices available for me and this place offers a variety of options in terms of food and drinks. The snacks are worth a try with the famous mint chutney. Before visiting do check the timings as it is open till 3 in the afternoon and after late evening.
Shardul
The entire concept of converting a fine dine into a rail coach is ingenious and the management have tried really well for that. Experience by placing LCD's in the coach and giving a moving train experience. Although the adults would not be much interests in the "dine in train" experience, but it's a nice one for kids.

As for the food, it is really good with their mastery in the following dishes and the best in town for sure:

- Butter Chicken
- Chicken Tikka Masala
- Roti basket (different types of kulcha's are what you must be looking for)
- Crispy corn
- Kurkuri Bhindi
- Mango salad (seasonal)

Also, they have a nice seating for almost 25 to 30 people in the garden in front of the platform they have built which is very nice to host small parties like birthdays, kitty parties, etc.

Hope this helps !
Dr. Shatabdi
Awesome place. Didn't have much expectations but this place turned out to be really amazing. From the feel of the train to the food to the drinks and service- everything was close to perfect.
Chicken was tender and cooked from the inside too which is a rare occurrence in restaurants.
Deepesh Jethani
say it Chinese
say it Italian
say it Indian
all the cuisines server here are extremely tasty.
ambiance - perfect
food - perfect
service - good enough

a very fresh idea.
do try veg kothey.
Shravan Shah
It's was my first time In Bhopal and I must say I was really impressed with the food. Specially hailing from Mumbai I felt the taste buds coming to life after days of bland food. Their butter chicken is to die for. They need to work a little bit more on their sizzlers but their Indian cuisine is yum. Do pay a visit whenever in Bhopal.
Shrey Varshney
A perfect place for dinner...i prefer to sit outside the coach as it has a orchestra too...the food is great and ambience too...inside the coach it has a less space and outside the coach it feels open with a nice orchestra. ..overall nice place

Although it has been a while that i have posted something for some gemstone of a restaurant... Well, guess what.. It's time for another review..

For a change, instead of Delhi, I want to offer my review for a Bhopali Restaurant - The Bhopal Express.
Yes, I know it sounds like a train name. But you know what, it is a train restaurant. Let me clarify for my confused friends, there is a restaurant on bhopal by the name of Bhopal Express. And like it's namesake, it is a one of a kind experience. So without any further adieu let's go on this epic journey.. ;)

From the outside its a classically styled train bogie with an outdoor sitting designed on an artificial elevation. Which is decorated with small lights during dinner hours giving it a very cute ambiance. Plus, as you enter your are greeted with a view of live musicians playing soft and melodies from our past generation.
But the eye candy for me was the restaurant itself. The bogie was the indoor restaurant. And if I had to describe it in one word, then it would be - stunning. Warm but bright lighting, fine dining in the train ;)
The buzz of restaurant was that it had moving scenery and... light shake and bumps of a moving train..!! :D

Now coming to main part : foooood...!!!! Well, one word again here - Splendid. We ordered dal fry, kurkuri bhindi, palak corn, mixed raita and butter roties. I simply do not have any complaints, daal was hot, palak corn fabulously creamy, bhindi {the bhopal speciality as per me ;) } was amazingly crisp and the roties were soft as yummy {for the lack of better word :P }

Infact I'd like to share a comment by one of my fellow diners : Surprisingly, train meal seems to have gotten good..

So all in all I suppose I can proudly say that my journey has come to an warm tummy filling and tasty end..... ;)

{My apologies as my phone seems have used its own brain to present the following snaps ;) }
Sumit Adwani
I have been here 2 times and i had no reasons to return..
The concept is good and yeah i will definitely say everyone should visit it once and experience the fun of eating inside a train but dont expect so much..

food was very general here.. i mean mutton was uncooked and other preparations were also not very delicious.

staff was not that quick and service was a mess.

so to conclude its a one time experience things.. like been their done that. dont do it again :P
Manish Anandani
Please avoid this place if you want to have good food. Horrible food - stale and tasteless
The only uniqueness is the train setting which is well but it hardly matters if the food is bad. Never going back.
Onkar Tendulkar
Loved the experience! It is now renamed 'Bhopal express' from earlier 'Shan-E-Bhopal'.. located in the compound of hotel ashok and has amazing ambience..
Has dining area inside as well as outside the rail coach, however sitting inside is a better experience as it really gives feeling of sitting in a train. The coach actually moves softly and also makes sounds of a train. The LCDs fitted on the windows have a running scenery which completes the experience.
As for the food, it was really good and quite cheap. Also had the best service. I am sure to go there when i go to Bhopal again...

I cannot remember any other time where I faced such terrible hospitality (or shall I say hostility) while visiting a restaurant.

Being a government owned restaurant, staff is rude, untrained and arrogant without any regard for customer. Although the location is amazing and the concept of train coach restaurant is too good and unique. If only the staff were good, this could become one of the best resto in city.

Recently, to celebrate an occasion, my wife and I went here. It was quite early and we were the first ones there. Given that their 2 seater tables were too narrow, we sat on a table for 4, as the restaurant was completely empty and it was at least an hour to go for peak footfall, I didn't see any issue in two of us taking a table meant for 4.
To our complete dismay, the waiter in a very authoritative tone asked us to locate to a smaller table. A guest at a reputed restaurant does not expect such a behavior from staff and so I demanded to see manager for this issue. As a complete shock, manager was completely unapologetic and reiterated what the waiter said.
That was it. We left the restaurant then and there and went to nearby Jahan numa for dinner.
Even on seeing us leave none of the staff tried to make mends, they just continued as usual.
That was the last time I went there.

Thanks for ruining my evening.

The place advertizes itself as the only broad gauge restaurant in the world and I have lil doubt it is one. The entire concept of converting a rail coach into a fine dine place is quiet ingenious. The management has truly managed to give the look and feel as if one is dining at a railway coach with little TV screens fixed inside(showing moving landscapes) to give a feeling that train is actually moving.
Now having said so much about the concept let's get down to the food, the menu is that of any decent fine dine and so is the food. I ordered seekh kebab and pinnaple Mayo salad for starters along with beer and as no one was too hungry ordered a veg biryani for mains. The seekh was a bit on the drier side with mild flavour. The pineapple salad was good and appeared to have been made with really fresh mayo. The biryani was average with rice not having been infused with flavour of the veges as it ought to be. The service also needs to be a little more attentive as at times there was not even one waiter in the coach.
I would say this is one of those places where u must go for the concept and not for the food.

Me and my family visit this place often. Though its a rail restaurant I always prefer outside seating. Food here is good. I love their kurkuri bhindi. Ambience is perfect with piano playing in the background and wind coming from the lake.

Well went to spent a good time with friends, heard a lot about Shaan E Bhopal. But what we experienced was disappointing. The ill and lathrgic sevice of the resto made us rethink our opnions about it. The waiter who outh to be treating us named Rajesh must learn that it is hospitality industry where the host has to be greeted generously. The service they gave was rathes slow even with few customers to be served! All in all not it was'nt as expected.

We all know it better by the name 'train wala restaurant'. Always wanted to go there but the only thing that always kept me away was it's management by mp tourism, having eaten at both palash and wind and waves which are both run by mp tourism I didn't wanted to go to this place just to see the train as food served in both this restaurants are not good at all.
Luckily I had to go there for a dinner and I realized taste was much better than what I expected. Wide variety of mocktails and starters on the menu! A good choice for main course too. A good portion size, presentation and taste!
Coming on to ambience and hospitality, there's a platform and a train coach. You can have dinner either on the platform or in the train. The platform is open air with live music going on while the coach had led in the window area which keeps on moving and gives a feel of moving train.
Hospitality is amazing. Very courteous staff and a good service.
A must try because it truly lives up to its name.
Yes it surely is one of the shaans of Bhopal!

This place is one of my favourites in the city of bhopal. The concept is one of a kind and on top of that food is also brilliant in taste. I always have non veg dishes here. Though there are not much options available in the menu as compared to other high end restraunts of the city i recommend to try some lipsmacking chicken dishes on ots menu. The service amd ambience of this place is also top notch.

One place not to be missed when in Bhopal. By the lake side, breezy and pleasant, amid trees and flowers is the lovely eatout Shan-e-Bhopal..I became childlike with the locomotive set up. Quite unique. Awesome ambience. Delicious food. I wish my express train journeys were as great as in the restuarant. Thank you!!

This restaurant is great. Good food for vegetarians but a better variety for non-vegetarians. Ambiance with a different idea. I have visited this place once only and would live visiting again. Shaan E Bhopal is a real charming place in the evening as the view is simply beautiful. I would suggest people to visit this place in the evening. It really is 'Bhopal ki shaan'.

The rail theme restaurant is a must visit for all. The ambience is great, the taste was delicious, although a bit heavy on the pocket and the quantity was not exactly value for money but nevertheless worth a visit anyways.

The much anticipated rail theme restaurant manages to keep itself above the expectation. This restaurant is a must visit, simply just because it's unique theme! There are three seating places one is inside the coach, the other on the platform and the open air seating.
Pros: unique theme, nice ambience, good taste in food, nice service.
Cons: less seating, less choice for vegans, theme could have been better executed, little expensive.

A big group arrived at this special place for a winter day's lunch as part of our school reunion. Prior reservations with soup served on the 'platform' and a buffet vegetarian menu served inside the 'coach' had been arranged by our organizers.
It was a sunny winter day in Bhopal with a slight nip in the air. Most of our friends had left Bhopal long ago, some came to meet family occasionally. All of us were staying in Lake View Ashok for the reunion and had to just walk down to the restaurant. It was a unique experience of sitting in dining cars of the trains of bygone eras...
A real railway coach has been transformed into a restaurant with a platform like place outside. There is a choice of seating inside or outside. The platform sounds used as a background score added to the appeal of the ambiance. The surroundings have been well tended to offer an interesting experience for all ages. We had reached early while the place was almost empty, but lots of people gradually trickled in later.
The coach has seating for twos, fours and more. Though the concept itself has restrained the numbers, about 25 odd persons can be accommodated in it. The interiors have been done up to resemble the inside of a train, right from the shape, size, seating and upholstery. Windows on one side overlook the 'platform' and on the other with display of the view from a moving train. Photographs of historic occasions on railway platforms, railway anecdotes and trivia form the wall décor.
The food, though good, was nothing great, excepting stray items like 'Igatpuri ki kurkuri' which was actually crispy fried ladies finger and the raita. The names on the menu were quite innovative, from Shatabdi ka Salad to Paneer Hazrat Mahal Falkland, Nishatganj ke kofte and Fairy Queen's choice!
The price was a bit on the high side, which can be compensated by some improvement in the food. Overall, the place is a must visit for the experience, ideally on a winter morning.

A fresh idea by MP tourism, A broad gauge coach converted to Restaurant, Good food, LCD screens on windows makes it look like a running train. The steward could have been more friendly. There is an option to sit outside, Overall good experience. Name of dishes are amazing like... Toofaan Ganj ki Shabnam Curry, The Flying Rani etc. Pricing is expensive as compare to the portioning.

This restaurant is different and that's where it ends.. u have the option of dining on the platform or inside the train..I chose the latter.. and it has been designed well.. BT u cannot help but think that this place cud have been a bit bigger... the service and staff is good.. The food here was average. . hara bhara kabab was really good.. One of the best I ve had recently..BT the main course was a disappointment. .

Over priced and over rated place! Place is run by MP tourism and seems like they are charging for all the tourism here itself.
This is a themed restaurant based on indian railways. There are two sitting area. One is inside the train coach and the other outside on the platform. I have some issues with the theme. First if you are doing a railway theme why not go the whole way. Dress the waiters as coolies and the whole atmosphere. The inside of coach feels stuffy n the curtains and everything is stained. The theme is unique but not well executed.
The menu is typical nawabi khana and has only 4-5 options for vegetarians. The non-vegetarians would have a blast. But the place is a bit over priced for the kind of food n service.
But if you are in a mood to have decent non-vegetarian with booze then this is the place.
Happy Eating Fellas!!
Mudra (The Super Chatori)
Shaan- E- Bhopal. One of it's kind restaurant you can get in Bhopal.

A Real Train being converted into a restaurant. They have given it a proper railway station look for the outside and Inside it's a luxurious Train. The waiter's are in the dress of Coolie. You will also hear the sounds of trains and would actually get the feel of travelling and having your food in a train! :D

A typical Bhopali Name saying Shan E Bhopal serves good Indian cuisines.

The Paneer Dishes and Dum Alloo are Yummist of all.

Rates are a lil high. But it's fine when the quality of food is good money does not matter that much.

On a whole good restaurant to go for a dinner with Family.
