Review Cafe Sussegado Souza - Calangute

Small old time restaurant right at the Calangute Main Junction. We had a lunch at sussegado. Nicely flavored chilli Chicken. Fish fingers are not good. Prawn curry rice was nice. But there was nothing wow factor in anything. Drinks were very reasonably priced. But some what nice place for quick lunch.

I went there for food not for restaurant and ended up liking the place more than expected. The prawns kadai is very tasty and exceptionally awesome quantity as per the price. Very bad service.

I had the pleasure of visiting this hotel not once, but twice in the span of two days, and it was an absolute delight! Went there for lunch and tried the prawns curry and fish. It was so full of flavour and reasonable. We also ordered noodles which were good too! I have also added the before and after pic of the fish so that you can decide for yourself how good it was 🤪😀

One of the best restaurants in goa for authentic goan food, Every dish we tried was absolutely lip smacking, be it prawns masala fry, stuffed Crab green Masala, Fish fingers ,King Fish(Surmai) fry every dish was very delicious. This is seafood heaven in goa, prices are also reasonable and some dishes are slightly expensive but there is no harm in paying extra for great food. Overall highely recommend place for seafood lovers.

It is a beautiful restaurant serving delicious Gaon food, and also dishes from other cuisine. In sea food, we ordered a pomfret rawa fried, which had the right amount of crispiness to the layer and the meat was perfectly juicy. We also tried other chicken dishes, which were delicious too. I highly recommend going with sea food here. The place also serves delicious bebinca, they serve it with a scoop of vanilla icecream, which makes it even more delicious.

The food is just awesome.. we were looking for authentic goan cuisine and we did get the bang for the buck.. great place .. ambience wise, it is a traditional goan home converted to a resto.. many vintage artifacts still kept on display like gramophone...

A well known place for food both veg and Non-veg. Location : Prime. On the road, so quickly visible to your eyes. Parking : Not much of space is available but there is a lane beside the restaurant where parking can be easily available. Ambience : Non-AC but very pleasant environment with beautiful paintings around. Food : The food is so tasty that even your taste buds will start dancing to every bite you take. Starters and then main course both are delicious. Recommended Dish : Chicken Garlic, Crab Filling and Fish fry in starters. Main course : Poi and Veg and chicken zakuti. Also, if you are a solkadi lover please do let them know if you like sweet or sour solkadi. Rating : 5/5

Pork vindalo is good. Pomfret curry average standard but rate is high. Service staff impolite. Climate is too hot during afternoon inside also.

Best authentic goan restaurant in the heart of calangute. I wonder why i missed it for many years. The taste is superb service is prompt. I tried prawns xacuti with poe , chicken fry in green masala, kingfish fry all dishes were best in taste. Must visit place

Tried the veggie xacuti which was very good. A very thick and wholesome curry. Only veggie option I saw was mushroom but they accommodated for a mix vegetable option instead for me which was perfect.

Has been set with an ambience of a Goan home. Its on the main candolim Calangute road. Food is tasty. Will be a great experience.

One can experience authentic Goan cuisine here. I tried Pork vindaloo,Beef xacuti ,Chicken masala and jeera rice which was very very tasty. This is one amongst the tastiest goan food I have tried till date. If you are in Goa, you must visit this place and experience the best of goan cuisine. Since I opted for take-away, I couldn't enjoy the ambience. However, the food is worth it!!!

Sussegado serves some of the best authentic Goan dishes. The food here is amazing, we loved the taste, quantity and service. We definitely recommend the beef pulav, we made a second visit to this place within our 4 days stay at Goa. Other mouth watering food we enjoyed are: crab xec xec, clams curry and pork vindaloo.

An old converted bunglow. Central spot. Great food. Great drinks. That sums up what this place is about. I've been here just twice in the last few years but both times, the food has been exceptionally good. Prawn curry rice and steaks the last time (in 2019) and roast beef (last week). We were happy that the food was SO good this time too. Both times, the place wasn't packed, which I found surprising considering the location and the quality of food here. It is slightly costlier than other local places, but then again, this is slightly more upscale and you pay what you get for. Definitely recommended. They don't have a parking lot but there's place to park bikes outside the restaurant and cars can park in the lane opposite.

Ambience and service is nice. Prawn quantity was less but taste is really good. Bit costlier hence less crowded. If you need calm and nice time you can try this place

Awesome place. Had my dinner there during my holidays in Jan. We stayed at Calangute and this place was walking distance from hotel. Food was finger licking good, drained every last bit of Chicken Xacuti gravy with Goan beard. Staff is ultra courteous and balcony seating allows you to enjoy your Kings with your favorite smoke. Will definitely visit again in my next trip (notwithstanding whether I have Gold or not). Another thing I noticed was that generally restaurants in Goa seem to have an attitude towards Indian tourists, here never felt that, inspite of the fact that this is a true blue Goan restaurant.

A quiet and decent place to spend an evening.<br/>It is right at a crossroad making it very interesting as you can sit for hours and just look around.<br/><br/>Servers are really sweet and helpful. We choose cafe Sussegado over the fisherman's wharf and believe me when I say we didn't regret doing so. Very warm place with extraordinary courteous staff.

You can’t just miss this place - located opposite the KFC outlet in Calangute- next to the Village Panchayat- this cafe has a nice seating area - to get a feel of the main market or if you prefer sitting inside there is good music and interiors well done- to give a Goan feel. Service was quick - food was delicious - We ordered Fish Chilly and Chicken Xacuti with Steam rice .

A decent restaurant at a decent location. Nothing great about it but there are no negatives at all. If you just want to grab a quick lunch then this is your place.

Do not order milk items like shake . It tastes like water here. Dry manchurian is the best.

Nice Cafe with good seating. When it comes to food, I ordered 3 totally different dishes. Butter garlic Crab, prawn curry with Rice and Goan Chicken chilli fry.<br/><br/>Crab was good. Prawn curry was just ordinary. Chicken was over cooked and hard. Moreover when I asked for Onion to have with curry rice, I have been told that it will be chargeable. I am so glad we decided to come here, the food is delicious, we ordered triple Schezwan and a sizzler both veg , both amazing. It is located right next to calungute towers hardly any distance from the beach. I would have surely given 6 stars if there was a option. Do try it if you are around. If you are on a look out for some traditional Goan food at a vintage-ish looking place, Cafe Sussegado is the perfect choice. Situated in Calangute, the cafe has calm exteriors and suprisingly vibrant interiors. The staff is super friendly and the food is just perfect. Although they don't have an extensive menu for vegetarians, the food they offer is tasty and the portions are just enough to fill your tummy with hearty food. A must visit if you plan to visit Calangute.

Holla Goa !<br/><br/>So I visited your beautiful city in the midst of the august downpour, and while it was raining perpetually the Goan Vibe was ever so lively and beautiful.<br/><br/>So after a few days of being in and around the city, on my last day here, I hopped about to find this quaint cafe on the main road opposite KFC.<br/><br/>I just wanted a beer and something light to eat.<br/><br/>First things first the decor of this place is as basic as it gets but that's what makes it so charming, that's what one wants in Goa, an old world place without the frills.<br/><br/>So I took an outdoor seating so I can enjoy the rain and a smoke together with the meal.<br/><br/>Went with a Budweiser which was well just beer at the end of the day albeit much cheaper than most places.<br/><br/>Along with that after much deliberation I ordered the cheese garlic, and I have to say it was delicious, and the best part about it was that it was genuine garlic bread with garlic pieces all over it, real crunchy garlic with cheese on soft bread.<br/><br/>In fact It was so good that i ordered a second helping this time with even more cheese.<br/><br/>The staff were pleasant and everything just seemed right about the place.<br/><br/>Would definitely give it a thumbs up !<br/><br/>May the spoons be with you foodies.

One of the best places to visit in Goa. The cafe has an old wooden house style structure. We ordered pork chops and tenderloin steak. Both were the best items so far. Planning to visit again on our next trip to Goa.

Old fashioned restaurant, value for money. Very good south Indian paratha. Daal fry is yum however planner is a let down. Overall ok for someone how is very hungry however you will find better places around

We ordered calamari masala fry, Goan sausage pulao and their signature crab curry rice. Calamari Masala Fry quantity was too less for the price charged. Everything else was good quality and quantity wise though nothing great.

It’s the second time we visited this place and I’m totally in love with their Mac and Cheese!! The perfect blend of flavours will make yu drool and all the other dishes were also good!! If you are visiting this place make sure that you eat before leaving as they take ages to serve your food and there’s a chance that you might die of hunger 😩😫😜 I also liked their burgers which was very different and filling!! Would definitely recommend this place 👍🏻

Tried this place on our first day of goa visit, our cab driver suggested it. Turns out to be excellent recommendation. Tried their goan prawn curry with rice and it's awesome. If you wanna try goan style curries you can try this place.

We visited Goa from 25mar until 29mar.we regularly ordered from this restaurant as their meals were rightly spiced and had excellent taste.once or twice we ordered from a different restaurant but their taste could never matched to what this cafe had to offer.I wanted to get some food packed to bring back to Delhi and Alvin(the owner) arranged to have it delivered to me even though the time was very short.ultimately I did not carry it back as we did not want it to get spoilt due to hot weather,but Alvin's customer services just wowed us.<br/>I would highly recommend this restaurant as it offers food that has a rich taste and an owner who believes in pulling all plugs to serve his customers.<br/>Thanks again..truly appreciate everything.<br/>Somya and Prashant

Really nice ambience and good food. Goan poi has been something I have been wanting to try and they had it on their menu. I had poi with prawn balchao as well as a mojito and a pudding and an allebelle for dessert which is a pancake with coconut and sugar fillings. Loved the place and the food.

The Goan food is so authentic and light on the tummy coz the portion of each dish was not too much. The best I had ever had. I had to go back for more coz it was delicious. Very homely feeling at the cafe. The owner handpicks fresh seafood for the day. Couldn’t ask for anything more.

The king fish was smaller is size but the taste was great. We tried pasta and it was awesome , got after so many bars hopping finally we landed here and had amazing dinner. The pomfrets were also too good and yummy and eaisly accessible from calangute beach .

Loved the food, quick service and pricing. We had Prawns balchao (stunning) chicken xacuti, calamari in pepper garlic sauce( simple flavoring and perfectly cooked) with rotis and lemon sodas. Perfect afternoon :) fewer Prawns than expected but the taste is to die for!

It was nice and creamy. Cafe Sussegado, just like the name is a restaurant that you can chill for hours with a glass a beer. We had the beer and we ordered for beef roast that was simply great. We really enjoyed the food here.

Simply perfect Goan meal is what i will call my dinner at this place!<br/><br/>We started our meal with goan chorizo chilly and it was wow splendid flavours bursting in your mouth with each bite then ordered crab in butter garlic sauce again it was too good and finally the prawns curry and rice made it perfect!<br/><br/>Staff here is very courteous and friendly they were closing the restaurant still didn't rush us, thanks for this wonderful experience!

Located on the main road opposite KFC, the restaurant has a vey old Goa feel to it. If you want to taste authentic Portuguese/Goan food, this is your place. It’s situated on the main road of Candolim and is easy to located. The food flavoursome and will leave you wanting for more. It is one of the nicest place to have dinner in Calangute area. The ambience, staff and food was upto mark in comparison to menu price, service was good but some may can feel about quantity issue. Very few option are there in Calangute area which can provide you cleanliness.

This review is long due and is for our Goa trip in APRIL.<br/>To start with something interesting, we were there for about 5 days and made at least 4 visits either for one of the meals in the day! A sweet little place in calangute has the most amazing food which is also VFM. We had the Goan breakfast, prawn curry rice and bebinca and all of it was amazing. The service was great and the overall vibe was very pleasant. This is definitely going to be my go to place during my trips to Goa.

Flavourful and Comfy,<br/><br/>Right in the centre of the market Cafe Sussegado is one of the old cafe's of Goa,<br/><br/>Famous for its Goan flavours and comfy ambience this place serves amazing food,<br/><br/>We did not order many dishes from the varied menu but what we ordered was worth having,<br/>Chicken Xacuti served with poi had all the necessary flavours in it reminded me of coasts and curries poi was soft on the inside and crispy on the outside,<br/>We also ordered pork stir fry with was lip smacking the tender pieces of pork stir fried in peppery masala with veggies was a great combination although for a person who does not like spices should ask them to tone it down.<br/><br/>When asked for suggestions we were greated nicely by the host with a polite smile and a homely greetings would love to try out more when we come back to Goa<br/><br/>Thank you,<br/>Café Sussegado<br/>For serving as well.

Food was wonderful. We ordered the king fish, veg xacuti, rice, phulka and feni. Good hospitality and service. Highly reccomend if staying in and around Calangute

Loved the place. Gives a vintage vibe, peaceful and dimlit (evenings ofcourse). Food: authentic Goan delicacies served. Crab xacuti is a must try. Prawns cooked to perfection. Other dishes were also flavourful and filling. Good food portions and reasonable prices.

Located exactly opposite to KFC in calangute.<br/>A good place serving some authentic goan delicacies.<br/>One should try bibinca, seafood.<br/>Other products are also good.<br/>Staff is friendly.<br/>Pricing is moderate.<br/>Will recommend friends and relatives.

Really liked this place. Love the setting. It's basically a house converted into a restaurant. The old tiled roof and the study room really make for a great ambience. Coming to the food, really enjoyed the sausage pulao along with the traditional fish curry.<br/>Overall I think you should visit because it's not overly expensive also compared to the other restaurants around the area.

This cozy place right on the Calangute crossroads boast of an amazing verandah seating in a Portugese styled Goan Cafe. The laid back ambience will ask you to forget the world and contemplate on life while you sip through beers.<br/><br/>So food wise, we had Chilly Pork, Xacuti Chicken and steamed rice. All good and warm. Their desert deserves special mention. We had fried ice cream which was absolutely out of the world. This restaurant is right over the calanguate main road.. Easy to locate.. Food is not extraordinary....quantity is limited.. Staff is Polite.. N service quick

We visited this place on our last Day in Calangute on 14th August 2018. Its located in the Junction of Post office road and Aguada-Siolim road -  about 1 KM from Calangute beach. The ambience has a mix of Goan-Portuguese vibe. We went in around 1pm and the crowd was sparse there. As we already tasted few other seafood items in other restauranrs in the past couple of days in our trip, we decided to go for Crabs. There were 2 options : with Butter Garlic and with Goan masala. We went with Goan masala as the other one is a bit on the sweet side. Along with it, ordered Peas Polau. The Crab in Goan masala was spicy and delicious. It turned out to be a nice match with the Peas Pulao. Along with it, we ordered Virgin Mojito, Maaza and last but not the least Fried Ice Cream with Caramel Sause - this is a must have if you are visiting this place. Will savour for a long time. Staff behaviour was nice and the service time was short as well.

Finally a place where I actually like being. The interiors are enticing and the staff better. So a great start already. Gives an old school feel indeed.<br/><br/>The food is simple and done well. The food is inexpensive and served well. Tastes good too! So I can count myself as a repeat customer to this gorgeous place!

This is the only place during our holiday that we visited twice. Once when we arrived and once more before leaving. The staff is great and the food hits the right spots. Must try the Goan beef chilly, the calamari in butter and pepper, the Goan sausage pulao, and the pork sorpotel with poi. And the drinks are pretty cheap too! Highly recommend!

Not extremely courteous stuff to begin with. You don’t definitely feel welcomed here! The food is okayish nothing better than that! It’s an old Goan joint cum pub ! Decors are old school type! Good music ! Definitely needs improvement on all quarters.

I liked this place very much. Totally enjoyed the food they served and the staff is really nice. Allwyn the owner was available on both the times that we visited and was very helpful and made us very comfortable , especially my little pup Charlie. Good place to hangout, ambience is good and have some decent food, drink and dessert. They are made for certain exceptional things like very friendly staffs, the place is best known for non vegetarian options but had other ideas so I tried vegetarian and McDowell's century soda. Turns out to be a good combination and gave us an opportunity to experience the best. prices are moderate, so plan accordingly and do visit the place.<br/>

We went there with our little pup Charlie who was warmly welcomed and made to feel very comfortable...we were also assisted with parking and the works !<br/>Food was awesome ,had a fresh and homely flavor .<br/>We had the calamari in Goan masala -was nice and spicy with a unique red masala just perfect to go with a chilled beer ,king fish rava fry -again made to perfection and fresh .<br/>For dinner we had the prawn curry which had a very nice and subtle coconut flavor .<br/>The pinacolada was to die for !<br/>Must try the bebinca for dessert , was amazing not too sweet just the right flavor and texture .<br/>Service is really good and staff is very very friendly which only makes me want to keep going there over and over .<br/>Big shout out to Mr Alwin who owns the place was most courteous and helpful and also gave the perfect food suggestions to make our evening a wonderful one !

We tried out this place the other night as due to weekend traffic and rain we could have a quick bite close by. Ordered Chicken Satay and beer batter fried squid rings. The satay was bit bland but ok but the squid rings were soggy and definitely not beer batter fried. That needs some improvement. We then ordered tenderloin steak with pepper sauce and chicken A La King, Both were really good . Overall ok but could do much better.

I simply love this place. Service is good, food is awesome. Its a perfect place to hangout. Have tried chicken vindaloo, chicken xacuti, etc.

Authentic Goan interior..food was gd..but service was slow..we had ordered pork chilly fry, chicken cafreal, chicken xacuti with steam rice.. we also ordered ceaser salad but nt very happy with the taste and big thing ... pork bacon was added without informing.. overall ok experience.

Went here (long walk of 15 mins in the sun) at 10 am ... But it was closed. A guy there said it will open only at 11 am. Someone needs to correct this on Zomato (it shows 8 am as opening hours). Rating goes as 1 since I personally called the place to check if they will deliver, but the person did not tell me they were closed.<br/><br/>Food ... Maybe some other time ...

Simple old and typical Goan restaurant at the roadside of one of the busiest roads of Goa. Came in here for a quick bite so ordered cheese balls which were not nice. And pepper chicken was yummy.

Awesome food and ambience!!! Right from the beverages to the appetizers to the dessert!!! Couldn't have asked for a better dinner at a nominal rate!!<br/>

Went here in May this year and had a good experience. Very good place to chill out and crack open a cold one with the boys. Owner is a very decent guy making sure service is always good. They have a good collection of beers(white owl was my fav) and a fairly decent quality of food

Located in the central.Understaffed and takes a lot of time to serve even water. The quality of food is not commendable either. Could improve leaps and bounds.

Amazing place , loved the staff good food , we ordered veg xacutii :) .parathas and South Indian typical curd rice which also was unexpected but available , staff was very very friendly, we watched the match , boozed and great food.

This is a really great restaurant. <br/>No hype, just the best food, the most beautiful place in the middle of the city, great atmosphere and lovely staff.<br/>It’s a real gem.

I have recently come back from Goa with fond memories. This place is situated at the circle in Calangute. Some great Goan/Portuguese vibe going on. Tried the Goan prawn curry with rice, and the Veg Xacuti. Great flavours cooked to near perfection. And down it with some chilled beer was heavenly! <br/>

Must try Goan Fish curry  and Prawns !!! Good food and helpful staff in choosing the food. Will certainly visit the place again. Music can be improved

It's situated in the warm vicinity of calangute and very strategically placed at one of the roundabouts. We ordered for a quick breakfast, masala poha, a cappuccino and pancakes.<br/><br/>Quick breakfast was really nice with eggs just how we like them and sausages well made.<br/><br/>Masala poha was a surprise for us as we thought it would be normal but it was full of flavours and nicely cooked.<br/><br/>Pancakes get a special mention. These fluffy round monsters were filled with flavors and was accompanied with there naughty sidekick "the maple syrup". These are must haves when in this cafe. 5/5 only for the pancakes.
