Review Southi - Candolim

Hrushikesh Dhumal
We went for breakfast and had chettinad idli, neer dosa, appam with kadipata chicken. The chetitinad idli was okay but need dosa with chicken was fantastic! They have zomato gold so you can get 10% off.

A very lovely, clean, air conditioned South Indian restaurant in Goa! I went twice during my visit and staff is helpful and friendly, and food is delicious.

I ordered katti patta chicken and neer dosa. The dish was prepared in a pan fried curry leaves and perfectly marinated chicken in green batter. The dish was a medium spicy and it was perfectly complemented by the neer dosa (white dosa) which is rice dosa prepared withoit any oil/ghee. The staff was expereinced and ambience was good. A must try in calengute. I can give it 10/10 rating.

Excellent food ,they have maintained the Quality and Service- even though I am not a big fan of South Indian cuisine,Southi is an exception. Owing to my memorable dining experience here last year, this year also we visited this restaurant. It is located just opposite the Hotel Novotel Shrem at Candolim- Calangute Road. I must say they have maintained the same standard of food and service. We tried Coorgi Idli ,Coorgi Prawns : Excellent. Mysore Dosa : Crisp and delicious. Chicken Thali : Good. Goan fish curry with rice : Excellent. Akhrod (Walnut Halwa) : Good but very sweet . They made the dishes less spicy upon our request.Service was prompt and courteous. The only flip side is the noise, if one decides to sit in the open area outside. The location is just along the main road ,so there's a lot of traffic.

Good place to have your breakfast here. Budget friendly and delicious to taste. They have variety of options for breakfast and also have a buffet for their residents. South Indian options are good.

This restaurant is located below "Zense" resort in between Calangute and Baga beach. It's an inhouse restaurant for Zense guests and are served BF here(those who opted for it). However it's open to the outside public as well and you can give it a try. A bit heavy on the pocket but they ensure they don't compromise on the quality of food. We had order lunch paneer, naan, dal tada, roti. Roti/Naan were so soft and that one could just easily gulp down 2-3 😋 Paneer sabji taste was great as well. Let me come to the Pasta part. We had ordered Pasta and it was sooooo yummy i have never had a White Sauce pasta so tasty. If you are nearby this restaurant just drop by to have the Pasta. Quality - 4/5 Quantity - 4/5 Budget wise - 5/5(5 being more costlier) P.S. I have posted my review for "Zense" resort as well, if you want to check. If you like this review just hit the like button and follow me for more such reviews 🙂

CHETANA NAYAK
An easy 5 star. Any one craving for good coastal cuisine that do not burn the pocket can go for this. We tried goan fish curry, and basa deep fry. All the dishes were spectacular.

Tried this place for breakfast. It's located the busy Candolim stretch. They do have a few parking spots on the property for probably 5-6 cars. Considering this place is below a resort, if you're lucky, you'll be able to park here. When we visited at around 9 AM, it was pretty much empty. And Service was quick. Hope it's the same when it's full too. We tried a few dishes - idli, sada dosa, mysore sada dosa, chettinad mutton kheema, coffee. All the food was good. The sambaar was luckily not the sweet kind. The chutney was fresh. The kheema was tasty and spicy and had a lot of curry leaves as i assumed it should have been considering the Chettinad style. It always the first time trying kheema in this style and it was enjoyable. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it's served with two pieces of super crispy toasted sliced bread which didn't really "go" with it in my opinion. Probably a paratha or even appam would have been better - but these are available only after 12 Even if you wanted to order and pay for it separately. The manager Maria was nice and also gave us a 10% discount coupon to come back for lunch and try their pizzas ( the restaurant has a section with a pizza brand as well ). Probably next time we can come back for a lunch or dinner meal. The menu definitely looked interesting and they have alcohol as well.

Good place to have South Indian dishes from Idli and Dosas to speciality dishes from southern parts such as Kerala and Mangalore. Refreshing change compared to the cafes and contemporary restaurants typically available in Goa. The food was a bit spicy, though the taste was good.
Tejas Vora
Excellent experience having food@ Banana leaf Goa.. Starting with atmosphere is excellent Food is also good and authentic with test. Price is also reasonable. Service is good. Briyani has to try here.

Ate brunch here today and I must say I loved it. Ordered double egg roll, egg chicken biryani, dosa and fresh juice and I am impressed by their food and satisfied . There is parking space outside, drink menu is sorted and the food is reasonable. It is easily visible from the road. The ambience is good so is the staff. Soft helpful and polite. Loved it here . I know you will love it too. Cheers enjoy

Amazing Dosas. We were at Banana Leaf for breakfast and to our surprise it has the one of the best dosa and South Indian selection in North Goa, not to forget the filter coffee which was truly out of this world. 😀 🙌

Visited Southi a few days back & I really liked the food. The mutton kheema dosa was delicious. The panner was soft, the mangalorean curry was yummy and the malabar paratha, neer dosa and appam were perfectly made. I loved their desserts they were amazing. The akhrot halwa and the mannapuram halwa. They were to die for! Ambience wise the place is cool with indoor plus outdoor sitting. The fish served was fresh!

Southi located in candolim, serves a wide variety of Indian and Chinese dishes. They are specialized in South Indian cuisine. They have a very nice ambience,an outdoor and indoor sitting area and a well designed bar section. The Tingling Taste Buds
Sometimes the things that you would otherwise expect the least from, end up surprising you the most. One such example is SouthI, located along the Candolim road. At first glance one would assume it to be an ordinary restaurant and so did we, until we set foot inside and ordered some of the best South Indian dishes we've had till date. With an indoor and outdoor seating, SouthI not only serves South Indian food, but also the regular Indo-Chinese dishes. Do check out their Chef's Special Menu!

We tried the following:
Prawn Thokku, Quick Gun Murugan Idli, Chicken Kheema Dosa, Mangalorean Kori-Rotti, Yelneer Payasam and Mannapuram Halwa.

The Prawns Thokku is one of those dishes that makes you want to go back for more! The Murugan Idlis are just melt in your mouth soft. Literally! And they're coated in the famous kandi podi, popularly known as Gunpowder. A MUST try.

A spicy dish from the Mangalorean cuisine, Kori-Rotti is a combination of a spicy chicken curry and dry, crisp wafers made from boiled rice. Served with it was a boiled egg cut in half and a small bowl of more curry.

We also tried 2 of their best selling desserts. The Payasam is a cold dessert that mainly comprises of coconut milk, tender coconut, rose water and chopped almonds while the Halwa is a hot dessert. With just the right amount of sweetness, the halwa gets big thumbs up!

Check out the detailed review on our Instagram page.

Part 1: instagram.com/p/B59mHOujdAB
Part 2: instagram.com/p/B6CsZl1jz-m

The Bearded Gastronome
I heard a lot about South I and finally decided to give it a try. There was nobody to welcome and greet us. The service staff were pretty lethargic and disinterested in recommending anything. I ordered the pork mandya curry and caligala fries As we waited for the order I realised that the ambience felt dark and dead and didn't highlight the colours and culture of South India. The place literally smells of sweat!. The caligala fries were really good and had a very nice flavour. I liked the pork as well but there wasn't anything special about the meal. Would have probably enjoyed the pork curry more with an appam instead of the roti which was suggested by the waiter. My experience at Southi wasn't like I expected it to be and it was a let down

We sat outside and the ambience was amazing. Excellent food as well! Outstanding service by Muneer. He really made our visit memorable and his food recommendations were bang on. We enjoyed it so much that we returned for another meal during our 3 day stay in Goa

Amazing place great service and sumptuous food. All in all great experience. A must visit for all you South Indian thali . They also a wide range cocktails.

Best place for South Indian food in Goa. Mr. Ram Kishan, Mr.Dinesh and Mr.Ravi Kumar were amazing. Best service ever. Would recommend everyone to try their idly. Amazing. In love with this place. ❤️
Taste For Thought
Went here for lunch as it was conveniently located right across our hotel. Nice ambiance and decent seating options indoors and out( outdoors was closed as this was monsoon season). A mix of South Indian and Goan / Manglorean cuisine options. We had the Manglorean prawn Gassi with Neer dosas and Chicken curry with Rice, Rechado and tava fried Mackerel fish. It was all quite tasty but found the Gassi and chicken curry made from quite similar base. Staff and severs were friendly and service was good.

It’s a rare case scenario that you go to a place without any expectations and yet each and every item on the table turns out to be one better than the other. This rare scenario recently happened when I visited Southi for lunch with my mum.

It was a rainy afternoon, and on the busy lanes of Candolim, we came across Southi. Now I have to admit that both I and my mom are not very big fans of Southern cuisine, but we are always open to trying new things. I still have eaten Southern Coastal Cuisine more than my mom, but for her, it was the first time, when we tasted Southern Cuisine beyond the regular Idlis, Sambhar Vadas, and Masala Dosas.

The ambiance at Southi is warm and welcoming and without being too extravagant, this place offers a great vibe.

Our meals began with the very refreshing Sol Kadhi. Sol Kadhi is extremely popular in Goa and the coastal parts of Maharashtra, but even other parts of the country cannot ignore this extremely flavourful drink made of coconut milk and kokum.

The Sol Kadhi was followed by hot and spicy Rasam and it was simply delicious. Perfectly spiced, it was one of the best Rasams I had in recent times and with that rainy afternoon, this combination was ideal.

For starters, we tried the Hyderbadi Pepper Tikka and Crispy Basa. The Hyderabadi tikka was marinated in cream, cheese and pepper and it served as an amazing starter. It was on the spicier side, but we simply loved it.

The chunks of basa laced with Mangalorean masalas and fried to get a perfect crispy covering, this starter definitely is worth trying.

Upon the service staff’s recommendation, we settled for Kheema Dosa and Kadi Patta Chicken with Appam. The dosa was scrumptious, it was our first time at trying a Kheema dosa and have to say that it was tasty beyond my imagination. The crispy dosa stuffed with a deliciously prepared mutton kheema was just perfect and makes for a highly recommended dish on the menu from my end too.

The kadi patta chicken too was great, but the kheema dosa surely stole the show.

Now coming to the last course of the meal, the desserts. OMG, the desserts were so good that they make my mouth water even as I write about them and they also ensured my next visit to Southi very soon. The yelneer payasam or the coconut payasam made with milk and tender coconut was worth every single bite, but the akarot halwa was something that I miss badly. I had never tried a walnut halwa before and it was to die for. Super delicious is the word and trust me this one thing you cannot afford to miss whenever you visit Southi.

Both me and my mom ate to the content of our hearts and we were truly happy souls after indulging in this great meal at Southi. I am already looking forward to my next visit, and what are you waiting for?

Visited this place on recommendation. Nice ambience with polite staff.

Good variety of various foods available, with a good drinks menu. Price wise it’s also easy on the pocket.

Tried a few dishes which was good to very good in vegetarian.

Haven’t been able to try the non-vegetarian but would surely be back for that soon.

Have rated this place as per my experience and would need to re-confirm this rating on my next visit as I couldn’t try the non-vegetarian.

Worth the visit for sure !!!

One of the best places in Goa to have South Indian Food. Ambeince was nice and cosy. Service was pretty good. Overall a nice place to dine out.
Swaroop Reddy
Tried the traditional Mangalorean thali and curry leaf prawns. Both were very great and purely authentic. One of the best thalis one can get to taste in Candolim. Highly recommended.

This restaurant has some authentic south Indian dishes where you find it rare in Goa. I have tried appam and stew chkn which is decent enough. This place has drinks too. Pricing is on a higher side for no good reason. The place is located on Candolim road itself. We had payasam as well . I have uploaded couple of pics.
Food Vibes
Placed on the main Candolim- Calangute stretch just opposite Novotel Shrems, one of the few places in North Goa to find good authentic South Indian food. It serves variety of cuisine like Chinese, North Indian and Goan.
Items recommended after our hands on South Indian dishes are Mysore masala dosa, onion tomato uthappa, appam stew, chettinad, Dakshin idli.

Will definitely visit again!
Fab place with fab food! Best South Indian joint in Goa! definitely a must try!! Especially the Kadu Patta Chicken & the Appam! Nice ambiance too and good service!

Food - 4/5
Ambience - 4/5

This place is part of Zense resorts in Candolim and provide complimentary breakfast. They have a good spread but provide limited number of options.. Their breakfast was good..

After gorging on world cuisines in Goa, we were already missing the Indian touch and we decided to indulge ourselves in a South Indian cuisine for one of our meals. We stopped by the place as soon as we saw that it was by Banana leaf. We were expecting good quality South Indian food and we surely were not disappointed.

We started off with the basics, the Neer Dosa and the Onion Uthappam. The Neer Dosa was soft, moist and light, exactly the way it should be.

Next, we tried the Mysore Cheese Masala Dosa. It was moderate in size and loaded with spicy flavored potato. The taste was amazing and the cheese made it pretty filling. We ordered two of these and gorged them with the coconut chutney and tangy sambhar.

The Paneer Bhurji Dosa was made pretty nicely too. The bhurji had a spicy flavor and the perfect texture of paneer. It was chillies, spices as well as tomatoes chopped finely. It had a proper taste of gunpowder as well.

We ended our meal with the Bissi Belle Bhaat and how delicious it was! It was spicy and had a taste of podi masala and was loaded with veggies. It had a different kind of warmth which you get only from homemade food and we loved it.

The food was great here and the place has a family vibe to it. The food was good but it's slightly overpriced which could be something that they need to consider. Apart from this, it was a good experience overall.

Ambience: 4/5
Food: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5

Hidden gem on the main Candolim road. Very easy to access but could be easily missed due to the busy nature of the street. Have a wide variety of interesting south indian options- veg and non veg. Enjoyed a very different and tasty lunch .
Absolutely loved the filter coffee and masala dosa I ordered. It was made to perfection, I would definitely recommend this place to families as they have a wide menu, and traveller's looking for a hearty meal.

SouthI is one of two major players on the Goan South Indian food circuit. However, owing to the fact that it is closer to travellers from the southern parts of the state and for that matter Panjim, it is immediately more accessible. SouthI's biggest sell is its location, which is also its Achilles Heel. Placed right on the main Candolim-Calangute stretch, it is extremely high on visibility, and extremely low on parking space, which could well be a deterrent. The food though is very interesting and is growing in popularity.
Sooraj Jayaraman
Good insight to what actually Goan food is all about. The vindaloo was great. The mojito was terrific. Loved the aesthetic of the place. Hope to see better portions in the future.
Magdum Eli
Food was good but the chicken wasn’t cooked properly taste and ambiance are good the senior staff is good and are capable to handle their mistakes as they give complimentary starter
Shavan
I have had some of the best starters in Goa. The restaurant predominantly offers South Indian specialised cuisine but the taste is remarkable.

Do try out the pulled crab meat masala (This is not the real name though) and the Coorg Pork Roast. The service and hygiene is good. The ambience is also very nice.

Read the reviews online and decided to visit the restaurant. Also since it was run by the same management as banana leaf i was super excited to revisit the south Indian flavours here. The ambience of the restaurant is good. The staff were polite however was not responsive despite the restaurant being empty. Everything was fine until we ordered food. So we ordered stew and appam and kingfish chutney style curry. The curry was average though it was supposed to be the most popular item on the menu also super expensive. Stew was sheer disappointment. Firstly it was served piping hot that one couldn't consume and secondly it was all coconut milk and excessively sweet. The staff asked us for the feedback which we gave, however the server preferred defending that no additional sugar was added. I have had stew multiple times this was more like payasam than stew. I further ordered for fresh lime water with less sugar the server gave me soda instead and later replaced it with bottled sugary lemonade. One good thing I want to highlight are appams, they were really soft in the center and crispy on the edges. Both my friend and I managed to complete our meals purely because of the appam. Overall an average meal.
Samir Madan
This is not your regular South Indian dosa joint. It serves a variety of cuisines and mouth watering dishes as well, all ranging from Chinese, Goan, North Indian and what not. Tried their squid butter fry, fish balchow, mixed see food soup and chicken Malai Tikka - all of these were really authentic in taste. Price is also moderate and quantity is decent as well.
Suchana
Amazing service. Tasty food.i recommend appam stew and butter garlic prawns. Great service by Muneer. Definitely a must visit place with family and friends

Food is very tasty and has variety for sure. I visit this place almost everyday or order food by home delivery. I have always suggested this place to all guests and friends. Staffs are very good and welcoming specially RamKrishna a guy from Bengal he is very courteous and polite and Everytime we visit he takes care of everything. We will definitely promote him and his nature. Thank you for the lovely experience Everytime. Surely one of the best restaurants I have visited.

1. Definitely not a place for Biryani, I searched for Biryani and being read about this I visited and I regret that. Biryani is pathetic.
2. Staff would make no help over food suggestions and also make incorrect projections over food portions per person. Don't ask for suggestions to the staff
3. Biryani is base less and tooo Oily.

Very bad experience with Southie being a SouthIndian.
Anu
Loved this place, the feel , the vibe and the food. Music was awesome too. The food is actually excellent in taste. Tried the chinese food here. Would recommend schezwan fried rice for sure!

Excellent fare and hospitality; extremely polite and courteous staff. Uday, the manager and his team made our experience at Southi very pleasant. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Goa and craving some excellent South Indian and Goan fare!

I have been a regular visitor to this place as I am residing in Goa and the kind of south Indian fusion food this place serves is just amazing and mouth watering. Also would like to give a special mention that their veg dishes are also amazing specially Appam stew,Hydrabadi korma idli and Mysore cheese masala dosa. A very good restaurant to be in Goa would strongly recommend it.
Veggielover

It's very important to start with a nice healthy breakfast to enjoy your rest of the day. Southi gave us the start we needed. Chicken sausage, fried tomatoes, bread butter and a cup of hot tea. Awesome! Not to forget a plate of hash brown. Our all time favorite masala dosa and tomato onion uttapa was equally good.
Prem Kumar
I love this place for food, and the manager is very polite, they will prepare the food as per our taste, especially I liked here tandoori pomfret fish,I have no words to say just I love the food here😗😗😗😗.
Geetanjalee
I ordered twice from them for home delivery. The food is flavourful and tasty. I only ordered their South India. It’s Genuine South Indian food. Highly recommended.
Avantika Dedha
This is one hell of a restaurant. Mixing famous Punjabi dishes with South Indian and seafood and creating that perfect balance of a heavy and light cuisine. The chef brought out the fusion perfectly in his dishes, bringing the best of two worlds.
All dishes were great. We had mutton ghee roast, chicken dosa, kingfish curry and malai tikka. A must visit whenever anyone visits Goa.
Sumanta Chakrabarti
We visited the restaurant at 9 pm on Thursday 20th September , we tasted Fried garlic calamari - good but not outstanding like other days
Mutton pepper fry was outstanding but needed more hint of curry leaves
Prawn Thokkha - Average as both the main ingredients pepper and lemon was subdued, they should be prominent
Hot garlic chicken & chilli chicken was great
And the outstanding was Andhra egg bhurji with appam
Bira was as usuals great accomplishment
Service was bit less attentive as there was less of eye contact
9/10
Eknumberchatora
Bang opposite our hotel Novotel it serves mouth watering south indian and goan delicacies. Tried chettinad masala with Malabar paratha and coorg idli all were authentic and tasted superb. Must visit if you in candolim

During our stay in Goa, we decided to try this restaurant. Its good to have South Indian dishes. We ordered Hot n Sour Chicken Soup ,Mysore Cheese Masala Dosa , Kung Pao Chickn n Idli . Nice Ambience with delicious food

Good food and ambience

Aug 25 late lunch: Being bang opposite of Novotel Shrem has it's advantages. Since it was post 3 pm, after checking in, looked for the nearest place and glad we found this. The ambience is quite pleasant and since it is AC and not open, but it still feels like Goa. The bar is on one side with the tables on the other. Cane furniture with colourful sit-ons lends the colour to the place along with the lamp shades.

Started with chilled beer and some quick food. Kings Beer is for 100 bucks and Bira White for 160 bucks. Andhra Chill Idli was really good treatment of the simple idli. 2 big idlis are treated in andra chilli powder - the result is a spicy version will all the punch. Crispy Basa was crispy and the fish taste was really good. Fresh fish cooked well. Appam was also crisp and nice.

The place was quite full even at 3 pm and the service was quick and efficient.

Where do I begin? This place is such a cozy spot with the most flavorful Manglorean and Goan delicacies. A rare and hidden gem in Candolim, it serves up delicious range of seafood- fresh crabs, fish and tiger prawns. Perfectly spiced and paired with an insane array of dosas, rice and tandoori items- this place is a South Indian heaven indeed!
Avi
It's name is southi, but menu has several other cuisines too. Feeling like to have some snacks so visited here. Had fiume coffee and idli. Taste was OK. Idli was soft but little sticky, probably its the cooking style in goa as I had similar taste in orbs places too. Ambiance is little dim, more like a club.
Neeraj Dharmadhikari
Superb food.. Period.
Order anything and you'd only be delighted.
I'm not sure why this does not appear on the list of must go places for food in Goa.
We had everything from idli, idyappam, manglorean curry to a paneer tawa... And absolutely everything was awesome. Lipsmacking...

Only negative I'd highlight is that the wait staff isn't that attentive and don't bother to serve you once they get food to your table.
Jayalaxmig29
Good food, courteous staff, prawn gassi was a bit raw, biryani, and appam were awesome. Had to waited for long for getting simple dal rice for the baby
Sayantani Ganguly
It was a quiet and nice place. The decor was nice and hospitality was warm. I ordered a virgin mojito whuch was very sweet..did not like it.. ordered butter garlic prawns and it was too yummy..tandoori pomfret was done nicely too...for main course i ordered malabar paratha which was really nice, soft and fluffy and mangalorean chicken curry...i did not like the chicken pieces but i loved the taste of the gravy...recommended

With famous parents like Mahesh Lunch Home and Banana Leaf in Mumbai, Southi in Goa has no choice but to be exceptional. When you're tired of binging on traditional Goan food, head to this South Indian fusion restaurant on the busy Candolim stretch. I went there just for the Prawn Dosa, and it didn't disappoint! The ambience is pretty, however the staff could use with some menu briefing!
Rajarshi Chakraborty
The seafood is a little overdone, but the Chinese cuisine here is quite good. We ordered the prawn noodles which was the best I had in Goa. Another speciality is the wide range of Dosas. The staff was very polite and professional. It's a perfect place for a casual lunch and not too hyped up like most restaurants in Goa.

Food - 4/5
Service - 5/5
Ambience - 4.5/5
Experience : Price - 4.5/5

Rating - 4.5/5

This place s located in main road and they have parking as well . Ambience, staff and food was very good.. must visit place.. although starters were bit pricey but it will be worth the try !!! Here also u can get different types of cuisines..

Not good food at all. We ordered for neer dosa prawn gassa n chicken ghee roast. Looked as if all masalas were just thrown in and cooked in a hurry. No taste to either gravies. Malabar paratha was uncooked...neer dosa was good. That's it. Anything but South Indian....
Bhagya Arun
Pretty expensive but food items and service are worth the price. Dosas and starter items were very tasty. Worth giving a try. Service and the way dishes were served was very nice.

Not much to show for ambience wise but it more than makes up with this South Indian cuisine, appreciated the cuisine format, delicious food although I wouldn't recommend their Chinese. Portions are a bit disappointing for a family styled restaurant. Service was great! All in all great food.

South Indian food at its best. The chutneys and sambar are soooo tasty and amp the service is prompt and professional.
Don’t mind paying higher prices for such delicious food. No stomach problems over the ten or more times I’ve eaten from here.
On the calangute road leading to fort Aguada is a hotel called Zense they have this wonderful restaurant called South. The ambience is on South Indian theme. The place is very well made and cozy.
Food is wonderful typically South Indian veg - non veg. They have a selection of snacks as well as main course.
Seafood is delicious with distinct southern taste.
The chicken ghee roast was awesome and the dosas that they served with it were melting in the mouth, soft and fluffy superb taste. Bombil fry was perfect crispy and tasty. The highlight for me was the super tasty chicken kheema dosa hadn't had some thing like this ever.

Some of the best dishes
1) Chicken kheema dosa - kheema stuffed sada dosa , yummy
2) Chicken ghee roast with soft dosas
3) Bombil fry - crispy wafer bombil

Now for the ratings
Food - 4/5
Service - 4/5
Value for money - 4/5
Ambience - 4/5

Amazing food, its a heaven for south indian food lovers. They have a very elaborate south indian menu. The staff is very helpful and courteous. They also suggest you their specialities. Special mention to one of their staff Patra, we tried coorgi idli,Hyderabadi style idli and Rajni Dosa all of them were just super amazing and full of authentic flavours. Must Visit.

Visited on 16/05/18... we stopped here for lunch after candolim beach visit... while we enjoyed the Food .. extremely slow service was a big put off .... we had to wait for 35 -40 mins for a simple curd rice or regular veg Thali.... the friendly staff were unable to explain to us about the dish clearly ... can you belive they dont serve rice as part of South Indian Thali (surprising isn't it !)... we were wondering what did they serve rasam and vegetables for?... if you have all time in world to wait for food this is the place for you... make sure you ask for complete details of the dish

I’m flummoxed as to how this place has such a good rating. There are very few *good* South Indian restaurants in Goa, and Southi’s extensive menu, with its thoughtful combinations, got us very excited. It was a huge let down- the dosa and the appams are decent, but the curries were a debacle. The stew had very little flavour, was just watered down coconut milk with a few slivers of green chillies- but at least it was still edible. The mangalore chicken ghee roast was horrendous, chicken in a gluggy, bright red paste which was so smooth that it seemed like a mixture of red food colour and stale chilli powder in Fevicol. Not a whiff of ghee. Sent it back and ordered a bisibelabath, which is probably the simplest one- pot meal to cook— lentils, veggies and rice cooked to mush in ghee with sambar/ bisibelabath powder, tamarind and coconut—comfort food that I didn’t think they could get wrong. The dish that was served was a bright yellow slop that had NO taste other than raw turmeric powder and tadka! There were zero lentils in it! For South Indians that grew up in Chennai and Cochin, eating this food everyday, this visit was pretty traumatic. Please get a new chef or new recipes cos your menu could really work!

Damn the food here is good. Surprised to find such a gem of a place in candolim. Everything we ordered was excellent. From the tandoor starters to the neer dosa and the pork as well as the prawns. Perfectly cooked, distinctive taste and decently priced.
Sad to see a place so good so empty. But it's Goa, so not everything good works here.!!

Excellent food and excellent ambiance.
Perfect for people travelling with kids.
The best dishes here:
Manglorean curry... It is yum yum and totally the must try dish.
They also have a thali option although i would suggest to go for individual dishes with rice.
The masala dosa is also good and they customize it to keep a toddler happily eating his dosa based on how they prefer.
On drinks, try sol curry its different than the usual cocktails and mocktails we try.

Great Food!!!
Loved the ambiance. Being a North Indian i am super conscious about my taste bugs. Southi made my vacation. They offered awesome taste in the variety of cuisine.

Nice variety of idlies specially the Andhra idli. Chicken ghee roast and mutton keema with neer dosa are a must try. The fish thali though is not worth. It was the 1st time i have seen bheendi fry in a fish thali. Rest of the food is excellent to go along with the soft music and nice ambience

Good ambience. Food is okay. Neer dosa was really great. Calicut biriyani was good but not any where near the biriyani you get from calicut.

Service is really slow. The staff workers are very rude no manners to talk to customers(if manager is reading this kindly work on it) . Limited options for vegetarians though its good for non vegetarian. Food is good but really need to work on their customer delight

Absolutely lip smacking food!! Their butter garlic naan is by far the best I have ever had in india. We also ordered for their triple Szechwan and it's flavour and taste was on point.

Just a suggestion your staff seemed very dead and unenthusiastic!!

Ambience is decent

This place has a great menu. You can combine southern curries with your favourite sea food.
The dosas here are lip smacking. The flavors are distinct and the quantity is satisfying.
The prawn curry was worth the wait :)

Dishes ordered were:
Prawn Gassi : Great taste and consistency
Kara masala dosa: the best you can find on a Goan vacation

The service of this place is very sad specially the waiters, they are not at all polite, they were very rude to us, they were speaking in a way as if we are getting food for free..not recommended...

Nice ambience and two stars for the same. Beyond that the food was pathetic- had to find chicken in Kadhai chicken and paneer in paneer tawa masala. It was just masala- and some shreds of stale paneer. Also to add to the misery was the Rajni dosa- I was in awe of the name but then the taste of dosa was way too salty. All in all this place can certainly be avoided.

It was one of the best shacks I tried in South Goa. All the shacks looks alike but this one serves such delicious food and great hospitality..
A great little place in the busy area of Candolim. Great ambience and seating. A well stocked bar. And the star of the place the food. Granted, we had limited stuff here but everything was just perfect. It will certainly become a mainstay for us every time we are in north Goa from here on.

If you want to have South Indian cuisine in north Goa then Southi is worth a place. Nurtured under the safe hands of Banana leaf brand, Southi not only offers awesome south Indian food but also north Indian & Goan cuisine.

It has indoor and outdoor seatings, later being more suitable considering the sea breez and weather. Ambience is more like south Indian with typical traditional Ottamthullal and elephant paintings. The service was quick and very efficient. There is bar section serving wide range of drinks.

Analysis

Mysore chees masal dosa-
The dosas were perfectly done and the accompanying chutney and sambhar were rich in taste. Masala bhaji was okay but the combination of dosa and chutney went well. Dosa was very filling as portions were good.

Dal tadka and tandoori roti-
dal tadka was just perfectly cooked and optimum consistency with the typical garlic taste. Tandoori roti was okay but no complain. Surprised to see such quality north Indian food in south Indian restuarant.

Overall very good place and surely can not give it miss if you are near candolim beach.
