Review Gurbax Dhaba - Chandigarh

Paras Chauhan Exclusive
I think it is a very good option for food in 22 sector. The food is delicious and economical. The behaviour of owner is so good. It is a crowded place. Sometime you have to wait for the seat. They have 20+ seating capacity. They can improve their servicing, it is little bit late, they take order late. Food is amazing and they serve a delicious variety of food. Hope so they will maintain the economical pricing of food in near future too

The food was good. Quantity was sufficient. Service was bit slow but can be accepted as the food quality was good. Spacing area is smaller. Price was good. Good place for people looking for family oriented Dhaba.
Anaveer Charolli
The taste of food is very good but the charges for thali items are very high compared to the served food items.but it's running since long years approx 30-35 years it seems
Gurpritam Singh
It's an ancient restaurant of the area, serving finger licking North Indian cuisines since decades. The ambience of the place is quite simple and sittings are traditional.

You want to eat the best vegetarian food with an old school vibe in the chandigarh city, then the Gubax dhaba is the best option with your family and friends....
Dilip Goyal
An economical and quality pure vegetarian dhaba at prime location of Chandigarh.
Sriprakash Sivankoil
Small dhaba but food is good. Better to park on back side of the market as access to the dhaba is better from there. No chai after lunch.. remember

Basically a pure veg, air-conditioned North Indian historic restaurant situated in booths of sector-22 D market in the lane opposite to Kisan Bhawan since 1980s. Now their third generation is handling this restaurant You can try Mix-veg, paneer, dal, chole, dam Allu, lassi, paranthe, ras malai, kheer, gulab jamun and a lot more. Almost all dishes are mostly liked by the people. No restriction on sharing plates. No special kids menu, no non-veg and jain veg food. Food will be served on your table within minutes, there's no delay. They don't deliver the food outside, but you can get it delivered from food delivery apps As it is located inside the booth, so a newcomer won't be able to find the place quickly. It is not very spacious, some people according to their body structures have to adjust with the tight sittings and their infrastructure is also old. Sitting arrangement is inside the dhaba only. Cash as well as digital payments are accepted. No special happy hours or weekend offers. Popular among travelers, school & college students and office going people. Wheelchair accessible parking and entrance available. I think there's no washroom available in this dhaba, but you can use shulabh shauchalya outside in the market. You have to park your vehicle in sec 22 market, some times it's hard to find a place. No reservations required but due to its popularity among office going people, you have to wait for sometime in lunch time of weekdays. Overall it is a nice place in chandigarh to have fresh food in reasonable price. This place offers you to come here and order ahead.

Their Food exceeded satisfaction to me. Mixed vegetable /kashmiri Pulao/ Chapatti and. Boondi Raita was just flawless . Their food service and their staff was very well knowledgeable . Would love to recommend.
Keep the vibe Up.

The food is amazing. I would suggest to try Chesse panner masala, and meethi Lassi. Food is amazing but oil is too much and lots of butter. But what can we can it's Punjab for us :-)
Manu Bhandari

Visited with mom dad. Mom Dad used to visit this place back in 1980's, they recommend this to me. Went with them, they were please to find this place after nearly 30 odd years. We met the owner, who is now Gen3. Ordered Choley Paneer Dal and Aloo Dum. Good quality food but lacking taste. Also, basic ambience typical small shop feel. Lassi was good, drank on 2 degree winter night. Breads were fresh and crunchy. Felt okay after all nostalgia associated with this.

Very unprofessional. I had ordered 2 missa Paranthas and also call the dhaba for the same. And finally i got two mix Pranthas instead of missa Pranthas.
I called them and they said can you come to dhaba to get your missa Pranthas.

Nice place to go n eat yummy food. But my home delivery experience was a bit not good. Nyways the service is very good........ Spcl ras malai

The song lines. Kya se kya hogaye dekhte dekhte applies correctly to this place. The dal and kadahi paneer which used to be the star items of this place are now not worth any rating. Dal was loaded with ghee but was not even salty and flavourful. I had to add salt to it to make it worth eating. Kadahi paneer was flavourful but it had so much oil that one could make another dish with the oil. Missi roti is too thick to be called roti. Only lacha paratha was somewhat ok.

Suggestions: Gurbax dhaba used to be a place worthy of atleast 4 stars but the quality has gone down drastically so u need to improve.

Meanwhile i would suggest katani dhaba over them.
Rishabh Mittal
One of the best place to have an economical meal with great taste
This place has great taste in paneer dishes tht no other can replace
Must visit
Kunal Sapolia
The most pocket friendly and fully packed at Lunch times. The place is really small. Food is just above average. They have not expanded their sitting area despite of the fact that they are among of few places which dates back to 1970-80s.
Chetan Vatsyayen
I'll have to point out that the ambience and cleanliness is below power. However, the food is fresh and simple; will call it value for money. The Service is very quick and you can be in and out before you know.

Though they serve only Indian food but I can go back to Gurbax whenever I am hungry and around.
BRaj
Went to the place for dinner as suggested by a friend. A small informal Veg place. Amazed with the simple homely authentic Punjabi food. Caring and quick service. They serve half portions which helps one to not waste and try more variety. Full value for money.
Thriyambak J. Kannan
The food is delicious, true to its dhaba standards. The menu is pretty straightforward, doesn't try to be too over ambitious. But what they have, they make quite well. The restaurant though is tiny, very tiny.
Parbodh Bhatia
Visited recently with office staff, ordered dal makhani, pineapple raita, mix veg. And missi rotis. Missi Rotis, mix veg. And pineapple raita was excellent. Dal makhani was average. Service is good. Decent dhaba food.

All veggie should try Malai kofta at gurbax . I always buy malai kofta whenever I pass by .
Totally out of the world .u can try lassi and Palak Paneer .

I am a student & I have been living in chandigarh for about three years now !
Since HOSTEL KA KHANA is not an everyday option, so I, like all the other students living in chandigarh, have to constantly look up for options.
Options which basically provide us with good food, moreover like GHAR KA KHANA, and in that case gurbax is my one of my choices.
FOOD: It has awesome indian food, like all other dhabas, dal makhani, mix veg, chana masala...All good !
AMBIANCE: During my most of the visits, it's jam packed, also it's a bit congested !
SERVICE: Really Nice !

I come out of there, with a full tummy and a happy face, so it's pretty awesome ! 😊
Rahul Garg
The place where you can excellent veg food at a price that everyone could bear out of all the things they provide the best malai kofta plus it is very different from the one available every place else
Shrey Amrohi
This food joint is located in one of the pockets of Sector 22.A small place with quality and spicy authentic Indian food.Overall service and ambiance was great. I would recommend this restaurant for budget friendly wallets in Chandigarh.
Prerna Bhushan
Pathetic food. I ordered mushroom, naan and dal makhni and I was a fool to do so. It's highly unhygienic. Until u are starving to death and have no other option DO NOT ENTER this place.

jaise hi naam suna . lagta tha jaise hidden jewel mil gya . but anther disappointment.. rather a rowdy one. reached there fr lunch sunday afternoon.. crowd was gud. but the menu and the ambience were quite a disappointment considering their prices. laid my tongue on their dal makhani, shahi panner , butter roti and raita. dal makhani was as usual . nothing spcl. shahi panner was way too sweet. funny thing was when asked d owner why raita is too sour. he said chandigarh ka milk hi aisa hai. the only saving grace was their kheer. not becz it was extraordinary but of the fact tht i like kheer very much. too much extent they are still in the market becz of their touristo location and thts wat is keeping them in the business.
Karamvir Sing
Great taste for decent price. I don't like very spicy food. No matter wherever you go, tell them don't make it too spicy, still u get a tongue burning food.
This is the first place where they ACTUALLY made it non spicy when I requested. Good for casual lunch/dinner. Staff is very courteous compared to a Shaba standard.
Biresh Chaudhuri
Average. Not worth recommending. The quality was far below expectations. Srvice was alright, but the taste was not that good. No beter than any roadside small dhaba
Tanveer Singh
Located near the corner of 22d market is this wonderful dhaba!! Although the space is limited but food is 10 on 10. Everything from the dal to shahi paneer to the raita everything was good. Although the price could have been better but rest was πŸ‘
Chirantan Maity
Once you taste their Lassi, I am sure you are bound to go back to this place. At Rs. 40/- only, it's the best lassi you can ever have around here.
Most of their dishes are pretty amazing at amazingly cheap prices.
Everyone should visit this place if you want to have some mouthwatering Vegetarian taste. :)

Went to this outlet regularly for a few days for lunch and dinner during a brief stay at Chandigarh.
This is a purely vegetarian food joint. Their special thali (Rice, 2 roti, dal makhani, shahi paneer, mix vegetables, raita) and thali (Rice, 2 roti, dal, mattar paneer, raita) both are good, offering ample amounts...although the tasteless raita disappointed us to some extent. We also tried their aloo mattar, aloo achari, mushroom masala...all of which were satisfactory. Malai kofta was palatable... So was the rasmalai. Furthermore, their aloo piaz naan and paneer piaz naan were unconventional but tasty. All of their gobhi items are seasonal.
As tourists staying in nearby hotels as well as local residents head over to this restaurant for daily meals... Waiting for 15-20 mins outside during peak hours is almost mandatory. Also keep in mind that rice becomes unavailable almost everyday after 9:45-10:00 PM .
Shubham Dogra
True signature dhaba ....nothing could be much better than this dhaba......Delicious Paranthas in breakfast....to thali in dinner...All that satisfies your hunger in a good way..A little bit conjusted seating..But staff never make you feel it!

I have been visiting this place since 15 years. The food is delicious. Dal Makhni, Shahi Paneer, Mix Vegetable, Tandoori Roti and Naan are awesome. The service is quick and the interiors are neat and clean and the staff is very polite. Though they do not have spacious sitting arrangement but still it is good and comfortable as it should be in a Dhaba. The prices are genuine with good quality food without compromise on quality.
Thats My Food
For me the food here lacked masala.. When we talk about dhaba food first thing that comes into mind is rich curry with lot of masalas.. But that is not the case here.. Service is quick.. I wont say that the food is not good.. Its just not what i expect from a punjabi dhaba..
Harish Vasdev
Best dhaba in the sector 22 c prices of the dhaba was so nominal . This dhaba is best for them who wants home food . Dhaba was clean and fully air conditioning
Gurdil
Not better than katani dhaba sector 35 which has almost same prices
I tried daal makhni and shahi paneer
Dal makhni seemed to have done many trips on the pan while shahi paneer was just normal, neither bad nor something exceptional
I know we cant expect much at such cheap prices but i still feel it could be better and thats the very reason i stated the example of katani dhaba
Mreenal Chauhan
Worst experience ever. I think, this can give you the worst lassi in Chandigarh. Order your food but expect no taste, no salt in it.
I came Chandigarh after 4 yrs and experienced the most tasteless food of Punjab.
Harpreet Manku
I ve been visiting this place for some time now. . The place is good.. food is very good. . Service snd everything good...

I have been visiting this place for more than five years with my dad whose relationship with them is older than me, early 90s precisely.
Throughout this period, I can vouch that they have been 'reliable' till the time who serves 'No Nonsense' food.

I shall limit myself to few high points for the whole coverage of Dinner.

- We were greeted warmly.
- A place to seat total of 40-50 guests with around 16 tables(Max 4 per table)
- Filter Water and AC is standard, latter is on Kumbhakarna sleep though(these days).

- Ordered Dal Makhani and Shahi Paneer with Plain Naan, Laccha Parontha and Tandoori Rotti.
- Dal Makhani, Usual Dal with tadka of Tomatoes, Jeera, lots of garlic and butter. It was good or homely.
- Shahi Panner, Best and unique shahi panner in the city for me. Small Diced Paneer in grated paneer gravy with bit of sweet taste and balanced masalas. Outstanding.

- Plain Naan with few traces of butter and Ajwain(carom seeds) in it adds to the taste.
- Lachha Parontha had lachhas missing, tasted crunchy overall.
- Tandoori Rotti, Hot and Crunchy.
- A Hot Gulab Jamun is best Dessert in winters, lukewarm sugar syrup and adequately hot Jamun.

- Reasonable pricing @100-150 per head.
- Hygiene is good for the Dhaba standards.
- Just like them, their Staff is reliable too, same faces.
- Service is Good and prompt, Tandoori Rotti's are always hot.

Verdict: Reliable Food Quality with economical pricing that won't pinch you.

Disclaimer: I am no way associated with them. The above comments are highly subjective of one's opinion.

----- 15 Oct, 2013 -----

I am Fan of this Place, visiting them for more than five years and still everything feels same.
Food Quality is Awesome. Tandoori Rotti, Naan, Butter Naan, Every Bread is Baked properly.
My Favorites are Shahi Paneer(Recommended) , Paneer Bhurji, Dal.
Delicious.
Everything is fresh.
Hygiene too is good.

Rs. 100-150 Per head.

Verdict: Must visit for quick, yummy! and economical food.

Disclaimer: I am no way associated with them. A place that has been offering some good quality food since a very long time, without a cut on its quality. This place after 8 pm starts witnessing heavy rush, especially that of PG students. The place offers good food, but the best part is the food here is very cheap. The service is also pretty quick and the food prepared is also good. The seating is also fine here, the place is Air conditioned also( obviously they wont offer u a very high class ambiance if they just charge around 200-250 for two people).
Their Dal makhni, cheese butter masala( very buttery!! ) and shahi paneer are the best along with tandoori roti or naan.
Overall, do give a visit to this place and you'll be really impressed by their preparation.
Anoop
I just love this place.... The quantity is less but the quality and the taste of the food is yummmyyyyy..... i am visiting this place from last 10 years.... thumbs up to you guyzzz....
Gurkirat Singh Sachdeva
It is one of the cheapest and oldest dhabas of town. Lassi is way too good, so are all the Indian delicacies on offer. It is dirt cheap too. It still has the old world feel. It is always cramped with people who are on the go for those quick bites.
