Review Avartana - Chennai (Madras)

We had the 13 course meal. Was a lovely experience altho it was a bit too much for me, perhaps 11 course would’ve been perfect. Very thoughtfully curated and delicious too. We’d gone to celebrate my birthday, some acknowledgement from the staff or a little something like a message on the dessert would’ve been nice and thoughtful.

Visited this place after hearing that it's awarded the 4th best restaurant in India and 30th best restaurant in Asia for 2023. Had the 13 course vegetarian meal here and it's decent but not as great as expected though! Every item was served one after the other and that too with a unique presentation. The staff had described each item while serving it. A unique but not an unforgettable 3 hour long dining experience! It would have been better if the menus were flexible instead of fixed though. I wanted to try some items in the other menus but couldn't because I had to order the entire set for that! Would surely visit again if this is changed!

Had the bella beautiful veg and non-veg course. Avartana is a beautiful experience. The food was absolutely delicious. What's so interesting in the surprising elements in every course, very innovative dishes with regular ingredients sets one to wonder what's coming next. Kudos to the energetic staff & talented chefs at Avartana!

One of the best tasting menus I’ve ever had! Do be prepared to spend 2+ hours and the service was top-notch!

The food was absolutely incredible. Beautifully presented and tasted delicious. We got Anika and Tara tasting menus and we were warned that it would take about 3 hours to get through. We have been here for 4+ hours because of how slow the service is. We waited 20 mins for a cheque. And when they brought it out they made a whole thing about us wanting to split the bill. They told us that it will take them even longer to get it ready. And alcohol is billed separately and cannot be split.. overall yes do come here for the food but have one person pay the entire bill and prepare for delays.

An experience, maybe once in a lifetime to a commoner like me. Being a Chennaite, visiting Avartana for dinner for the first time was surreal. Though we've all heard of great reviews about this place, I wasn't able to fathom what it was all about. So, I chose the right event for the dreamy dinner night. All the dishes were exquisite and beautifully presented!! 😍 We could choose from 4 choices - Maya, Bela, Jiaa, and Anika (All 4 available in both veg & NV courses - 7,9,11,13 course meals respectively) We went with Bela and the whole experience span over 2 hours for the 9-course meal. As we sat across we were first served with Veen still water which was weird since hot water would have been better in retrospect. 😅 For a palate cleanser, it was yogurt-dipped cucumber and french pressed tomato rasam - Crunchy and sour cucumber while the rasam was fresh from the press, unique in the way he explained the process 🤭 Tomato and millet rice crisp - Crispy rice cake with crunchy veggies and sauce 😚 Crispy chili potato with buttermilk sphere - Surprised by the way the buttermilk was sphered; awesome Spiced potato 🤩 Cauliflower crunch with pomo & mint - Weird cause had the burnt taste from the cauliflower yet interesting 🤔 Pumpkin dumpling in butter emulsion and fried beans - THE BEST; flows smoothly along every bite 😘 For the intermission, we were served Cucumber & Apple sorbet - Sweet, frothy, and kicky ❤️ Asparagus & coconut stew with turmeric coconut & idiyappam - SO DAMN thick stew which lights up all the senses; sweet and perfect for a main course 👌 Spiced aubergine with Byadgi chili emulsion & sago - Unbelievable, the way they peeled the aubergine skin to form a basket with soft sago and creamy emulsion, PERFECT 😋 Veg fritter rice with sesame & palm nectar - Deep fried rice with native veggies, tastes heavenly 👌 Fennel panna cotta with angel hair caramel - All time best, presented very well and the formation of white chocolate as an egg - their thought process is beyond the ionosphere 😍 Owing to our special occasion, the team was courteous enough to serve a dessert to close the meal with. What looked like a cheesecake and white chocolate turned out to be Idly and coffee cake, VERY SURPRISED with the innovation, the presentation, the taste, and the impact. For the final palate cleanser, it was Pan ice cream with betel leaf 🫠 What went wrong in the middle was that they missed serving the cauliflower in the first half and ended up serving it at the last which ruined the aftertaste of the meal Phewww!! That was some experience since we would have hardly had 20 bites of food yet it made us feel, OKAY THAT WAS GOOD!! 😇 The ambiance was rich with bright white lights and opulent seating. Their service is why they are where they are. It was well-coordinated, courteous, and pleasant. Valet parking at ITC is never a problem. I wouldn't comment on the rate since this place is extravagant and the prices are exorbitant, EOD!! 🤗 Avartana is not the place to go for a glutton like me. It is also not the place to go to have sumptuous quality food. It is the spot to experience luxurious fine dining; a place to find innovation in food, a place to understand why it is in the TOP 30 dining spots in Asia and what it takes for them to be there, AN EXPERIENCE!!! 🫡

My first nice dining experience in Avartana was fantastic. The manner they describe the dish after it has been served, as well as the innovation they have made with our South Indian cuisine. Particularly noteworthy are their presentation and distinct dishes for each meal. When I tried to stroll in last month, they were completely booked. As seats are limited, it is best to reserve ahead of time. Totally Love it 😊😍

The best fine dining in Chennai. It’s a must try. They explain everything in detail and even guide you to have it the right way. The food was splendid and the ambience was great. Last but not the least the service was top notch. We really had a great time with the family. It’s bit pricey but totally worth it

I have been to almost all the fine dining restaurants at Chennai & I must say this one was the best fine dining experiences i have had. Very courteous staff , Taste was delicious & mouthwatering. We went to avartana to to celebrate my wife’s birthday. From their rasam to the dessert, they just amazed us with the presentation & taste of the food. Exquisite! It is a must have visit if you love fine dining restaurants.

Really good food. Quite creative in execution. Blend of flavours was good as well. Some of the hits for me personally included the lamb brain, orange and ginger sorbet, asparagus and coconut stew and the coconut dessert although the quantity of the dessert could be smaller. Some of the misses were the seabass, lobster and the lamb rice. Rest of the dishes were decent. Some of the courses were plated beautifully. Service was good but staff need to explain the dishes clearly and lack a bit of finesse associated with a fine dining establishment - something that can be easily overcome through adequate training. Oh..the cocktails were super. In summary - a delicious dinner.

One of the best dining experiences a person may have, with the large spread of 14 course meal, they offer you everything, which you could think of. Infact some dishes like are made from simple vegetable, which we often think of tasteless And the best part is they care about your calories as well The portion or bite size is well balanced along with the taste and fabulous presentation style. MUSY TRY!!!

The food was exquisite. Extremely unique experience. As much as we loved how the food tasted, we were not completely convinced about the portion sizes & the overall waiting time for the full course meal to complete. No matter how fancy & elegant the dishes might look and taste, 2.5 hours was a long time for us to sit patiently at a table waiting for each dish to arrive one by one. To be fair though, it was a Friday night with a full house, and I won't be surprised if the restaurant generally becomes full on other days as well, considering the quality of food. For the more patient folks our there, this restaurant might be an excellent find and experience. Make sure you go with the right mindset and know what to expect out of the experience.

I did the kimaya experience on Sunday. It's a pre-fix menu - you get to choose veg or non-veg. We did non-veg. Outstanding curation of food. Don't forget the mocktails. The staff makes the effort to educate you about each liltem as theyl come out. Includes palate cleansers along the way. Highly recommend.
