Review Buhari - Chennai (Madras)

Sirajul Hussain
Buhari established in 1951, exudes a vintage charm that adds to its unique character. The recent renovation has elevated its ambiance, creating a visually appealing dining space. The menu boasts distinctive flavors, showcasing a culinary journey that spans decades. The experience comes with notable drawbacks. Despite the rich history, the portion sizes are disappointingly small, leaving diners wanting more. This, coupled with the exorbitant prices, creates a dissonance between the dining experience and its value. While the renovation enhances the aesthetics, the overall value proposition falls short. Despite the flavorful journey and pleasing ambiance, the restaurant may struggle to justify its steep prices and limited portions, making it a choice for special occasions rather than regular dining.

Bubari Hotel on Mount Road in Chennai presents a favorable dining experience, easily accessible and well-located. The standout dish, Chicken 90, is a culinary delight, leaving a lasting impression with its exquisite taste. Exploring their Biriyani was also a good choice, offering a satisfying blend of flavors. One notable positive aspect is the efficient service, surpassing the pace of other restaurants in the vicinity. However, the Lemon Mint failed to meet expectations, lacking the refreshing quality anticipated. A significant downside was the cleanliness issue with the washbasin, detracting from the overall dining experience. Regrettably, a concerning incident occurred when the main person taking our order subtly requested tips. While tipping is discretionary, the expectation felt somewhat ingrained, raising discomfort. This stands out as the primary negative point, suggesting a potential need for improvement in the approach towards gratuities. Despite this, Bubari Hotel stands as a good choice for its location, delectable Chicken 90, and efficient service, with room for enhancement in certain areas.

Great experience of having such a delicious food here. Had wonderful time. Service is so fast. Must try Biriyani here. And mutton soups are just frenzy. At the end, always try maximum deserts. Worth the visit.

Mutton Dum Biryani is very hot 🔥 and spicy 🥵 Panner very saft and puffy in all the dishes. Vera level Ban butter jam. Fresh Chicken 🐔 🍗 90 yummy tasty. All are good 👍

I had the pleasure of dining at Bhuhari Anna Salai, and it was an absolute delight! The star of the show was undoubtedly the biryani, an exquisite dish that left me craving for more. Every bite was a burst of flavors that justified every penny spent. The Paya was a treat for the taste buds, and the chapathi was flawlessly executed. My visit happened late at night, around 11:30pm, and despite the hour, the restaurant offered a commendable selection. I decided to try their biryani, parotta, and chapathi, and I was not disappointed. The panner butter masala and butter chicken were undeniably the highlights of the meal, leaving me practically licking my fingers. However, it's important to note that dining at Bhuhari Anna Salai might not be feasible for everyone due to the relatively higher prices. But the quality of the dishes and the overall ambiance truly make it a worthwhile indulgence for special occasions. The restaurant's exterior is a sight to behold, drawing you in with its captivating design. The interior ambiance complements the experience perfectly, making it a complete sensory delight. One small drawback is the limited parking space available. While the restaurant's eye-catching appeal might attract a lot of diners, finding a parking spot could be a challenge. On occasion, you might find yourself circling around to find a suitable place to park. In conclusion, Bhuhari Anna Salai is a culinary gem that offers a delectable journey for your taste buds. Despite the higher prices and parking constraints, the outstanding flavors and inviting ambiance make it a must-visit for those special moments when you're seeking a memorable dining experience.

Samosas are delicious and must try the tea. Compliments well. Biryani is good. Chicken is alright.

we went to the mughals buhari restaurant on the right side of the buhari restaurant and the ambience is too good and feels like royal …with the design and structure they have on the 3rd floor….the food was also very fresh and they make it fresh and the serving was very nice too…Especially the mutton biryani the one of the best i had in recent times during my travel in different countries…tried the kesari falooda… in veg we tried falafal with hummus which is awsome and fresh too…little expensive than the one we have from buhari

The chicken Manchow soup was delicious, delivering a satisfying taste. The chicken 65 was cooked to perfection, with a perfectly balanced masala. The Labanaise grilled chicken was tender, juicy, and infused with delightful marinade and masala that left a peppery punch in your throat. Additionally, the soft fudge provided a delectable and enjoyable experience. The faluda was not up to the mark. Only the upper ice cream was good the remaining only colors.

Best classic restaurant to have Delicious, mouth watering & yummy biryani. Especially chicken 65 which is the showstopper... Chennai people do visit here if you are a briyani lover..

Nice cozy place for fine dine , tasty typical chennai food.. bun butter jam, 🧈, wheat Parota, Mutton briyani and campel chicken, Idiyappam paya is the ultimate and ending it with a high chai 🍵

This place is famous for Chicken 65 and they found the recipe in 1965. The masala taste is new but I didn’t got the fullest tastes of it. May be I will try sometime later too. We have also ordered mutton Biriyani and kebab. Mutton Biriyani was very good and quantity is sufficient for one person. It’s doesn’t have AC in ground floor I’m not sure about the first floor. It’s crowded during weekends and it’s in primer location. It’s a good place to enjoy non vegetarian food they have multiple options. They do have a bakery adjacent to restaurant. Dum Chai is must try here.

After many years tried Buhari, it bring back my memories. Awesome mutton Biryani, chicken biryani was good, chicken 90 is good as well. Dragon prawn was sweet.

The iconic inventors of Chicken65. Food was great and most recommended. Ordered biryani and chicken65.

Overall very good! Mutton biryani is the best here. Long grain basmati rice with a good balance of spices and adequate chunks of mutton accompanied by raita and a traditional accompaniment. The service was very courteous and timely. When the staff respects the elderly, it reflects very positively on the management of the establishment and Buharis went an extra mile to ensure our comfort! The desert we ordered was Peach Melba which was sumptuous and delicious. Overall an iconic foodie destination in Chennai delivered a delightful experience!

My favourite restaurant in Mount road. Will often visit there for dinner. The service can’t beat by any other, also the food taste will be mouth watering. The price are little high than other branches since this is the main first Branch and taste recipes will be completely different style. They don’t accept online or 3rd party delivery options. Ground floor is of non AC and Bakery is also attached to the restaurant ground floor. AC dining will be on first floor. Love for their welcome drink(Grape juice) never ends. Always request them to provide an extra cup. Simply it’s one of the best restaurant in Mount road.

One of the best mutton biryanis in town, they maintain the same quality for years, just that there r very less mutton pieces in the biryani we had, chicken 90 was soft n tender, my kid loved it, service could be improved, many good restaurants lack in service department which could take a hit on the overall dining experience!

On an overnight trip to Chennai we were told by friends that a Biryani and Chicken 65 dinner at Buhari hotels Anna Salai ( the most famous branch) was a must. We went with high expectations but alas so disappointed not only in the food but also the customer service. The chicken 65 was hot and fresh but we were served a cold and insipid portion of mutton biryani. On bringing this to the attention of the staff- Capt and supposed "incharge" we only got a bunch of silly excuses and an attempt to serve us the same biryani portion by re heating it!!! After all the feedback and us not eating the biryani we would have thought the least customer service would have been to not charge the item to the bill but our expectations of ownership and pride for the brand by the staff were let down..... Alas

Cheated , 50gm bone peace chicken for chicken biryani , you people are taking things granted because of established brand name , you can't cheat customer like this.

I gave 1 star bcoz of mutton briyani, other dishes are not nice, service is also not good, even in roadside shops ll provide best service ..
Sashi Kumar Murugaya
Totally disappointed with service provided. I ordered 3 Appam. Sadly the waiter served only Appams without coconut milk. It seems only gravy is available and need to be purchased separately. It's not about paying, it's all about poor service and insufficient information prior to ordering our food. Hope to see much better service in future in case I decide to visit again. The food was good.
Lalit Kumar
Should mention the quantity of PC's given in biryani.. 190 rs plate with one pc chicken and one egg. Now when it served you can't refuse or ask them to replace. Food was very good. Spl. Parotta. Over all experience was good. But they can improve there services as well

The chicken barbeque was ok... Otherwise the Mutton masala we ordered for Naan was not worthy and tasty.. very watery and tasteless.. Even the Mutton Biriyani was not tat so good.. A very, just Ok lunch we had on that day...

Great food and Chicken 65 is too good, the best available.
Thameem Ansari
Few points 1) Spice levels were really low 2) prices are really high 3) Too much air conditioner 4) No kids seat available Otherwise quality of food is really good

If food is the only reason people have to come to Buhari, I believe people have better choices than you. Any hotel gains success because of service delivered. Three times visited in the last 3-4 months and not even once we had good service. Pathetic is just a word to describe it. The 2 stars given is only for food.

Awesome food, friendly staff and an great experience over all value for money. Campbell chicken is something to try.

Good food...good Service...price was a little on the upper side...but was worth the experience overall

I went to this restaurant around 12 am. The restaurant was almost full and busy.
I ordered a biriyani and chicken 90.
They took more time to serve it. And secondly the biriyani was sweet. It was at the verge of getting spoiled. It tasted like tomato rice.

And coming to chicken 90 it was full of flour. 50 percent of it was flour not chicken. When i complained about biriyani they said that is thw taste. But its the worst taste ever.

Out of 6 pieces of chicken 90 we already took 2 pieces and it tasted horrible so we complained what they did is they took back other 4 pieces and returned us a different 4 pieces. Exactly the same 4 pieces.

These people dont care about the customer satisfaction. They are a grown up brand and they dont carw about the quality anymore..

630 rs paid for nothing.

Food:
Chicken Biryani/Mutton Biryani – Well, there is some stiff competition for the best biryani in Chennai. A basmati rice biryani with little frills (Cardamoms and Cinnamon sticks) and more of the slightly sweet tender meat. The chicken Biryani had the leg piece while the mutton had the chest. The richness of the Biryani was obvious in every scoop. The meat was tender, juicy and even the jelly-ness was enjoyable. MUST TRY!!
Chicken 65 – What is a meal without trying out 65 at its birthplace. It was tender and juicy on the inside, mild-spiced and very crunchy on the outside, GOOD
Mutton Samosa – Tiny crunchy triangles with moderate meat level; not so great but the dips alone were too good
Hunan veg fried rice – No-spice rice with a variety of veggies, served with a bowl of their hot peppery Hunan sauce; since the sauce had good spice level, along with the rice it was good
5/5 for Biryani; rest were just good!!

Ambience/Price:
Their ambience is definitely their biggest plus; great seating space in both AC and Non-AC sections; service too was swift and courteous. But, the lack of parking space was frustrating; couldn’t whine about it since this place is right in the heart of the city.
Also, the price was a concern for a few dishes; they shall re-consider it.

Ordered Chicken Man chow Soup, Chicken Biryani, Fish BBQ, Gobi Manchurian, and Mutton Biryani. Soup tastes was good but not that thick. Biryani was okayish, Fish BBQ taste was nice. And Gobi Manchurian was okayish. The quantity and the price doesn't work out. Very costly. Not great service.

The chicken dum biriyani with chicken 90 are a must try! Absolutely delicious food and really nice ambience. And a special call out for the sulaimani tea! Loved the place.

Very crowded place and overrated , food is bad and the service is so late , given rating is just for the ambience

Buhari by nawaz buhari at mount road had horrible service. The waiters n managers were rude, arrogant and ignored us. Not at all a tourist friendly place. Food was quite decent. But it isnt worth going to just to be ignored. The valet parking service was the only nice this about the place.
ChennaiEats
The jam bun is famous here, it’s 40₹ but it has kishmish and it’s freshly baked. The garlic prawns and grill chicken is super yumm! Must try it. The tandoori chicken is okayish can be more flavourful.

This is obviously a well established and reputed restaurant. We were ushered into the a/c dining hall upstairs. Everything is fine so far. We were served fresh grape juice which was really nice. Then we were seated in the end of the dining hall just near the washroom area. There is a steady stream of diners going into the washroom. If the sight of people going in and out of the washroom doesn’t kill your appetite then the smell of the room freshener certainly will. The fact that they use such copious amounts of air freshener is a sure sign that they have much to cover up in terms of stink. I hope you can make the connection between the washroom and the air freshener. The smell of the room freshener seriously messes with the aroma of the food. For the kind of expensive food they sell, they should take care of the details that I mentioned. Service is slow. The food itself is good but definitely expensive.

We visited this place with lots of hope regards to food. But very disappointed, many things not available, food was not up to mark, ambience is very and service is ok, food definitely need to be improved. Not sure if we will visit again.

Having been disappointed with buhari a long while ago, I thought I should give it a second chance. Only to be disappointed again, but this time in a colossal way. Not only would I not recommend it to someone, I'd strongly suggest anyone to check out almost any other restaurant in this category.

The old restaurant at mount road had such a fresh look to it, with the renovation and all. But the food seems to have spiralled downwards.

The menu- literally every other restaurant in this category has a basic paneer starter for vegetarians. Since buhari is the famed inventor of the '65' one would think they'd have thought of having a paneer 65 for the vegetarians, but nope. Seems clear that their faithful chicken 65 fanbase seems to be their top priority.

Biriyani- pathetic is how I'd describe it. I've never had a more bland biriyani in my life. No flavor whatsoever. And they don't even have the option of just plain biriyani or 'kuska'. One has to go for the egg biriyani which is just plain biriyani with eggs boiled on top. The gravy that they give could almost easily be turned into a payasam. That's how sweet it was.
Had to pay a bomb for this pathetic food.

Bottom line- Their food and menu need a huge 'renovation'

First of all the ambience when we enter is absolutely amazing . The welcome by the security is traditional Tamil culture style. During the weekdays the crowd is less but during weekends the rush is soo high ,waiting period is around half an hour . The price of each item is quite reasonable but not cheap , it’s worthy for its taste . The service is awesome and very kind . It’s typical Tamil Nadu style dishes . The cost for 2 person is approx Rs1600 .

Waste food . Such a bad experience.. ordered prawn Biryani whereas he gave chicken Biryani and added some prawn to it.. And the prawn were very less and of no taste. Imagine for 355 rupees u got this.. Worst

Located at mount road, this Buhari outlet is the oldest and known for various dishes from chicken 65 to its biryani so I visited this.

Let's talk about food:Chicken Munchow Soup- Flavours was good, the amount of munchow given was less compared to the soup quantity.

Paneer Tikka: The flavours were okay.

Chicken 65 - Known for its legendary chicken 65, I was kind of disappointed with their flavours.

Keema Samosa: We repeated this dish twice, this was really good. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Chicken Biryani: It was served cold and was heated once asked, the flavours weren't good.

Service: Very shabby. Disappointing.

I love the food over here. But today's incident made me think how poor the buhari management is. Today's I left my vehicle in front of Buhari none of the security said me it is no parking. After some time traffic police towing vehicle came and charging case against all the vehicles which parked in front of the hotel. What is the responsibility of the security or the management, of taking care of the customers vehicle? Why they were appointed. Poor management.

This place has become overpriced hype.. we ordered sweet corn chicken soup, chicken lollipop and 2 mutton Biryani. The soup and lollipop were nothing extraordinary but not bad.. the mutton Biryani though, had almost no taste to it.. I couldn't taste any masala or the mutton flavour in the Biryani.. and they could've called it mutton bone Biryani.. There was absolutely no meat.. will never be going back there.. I should've chosen Thalapakattu which is close to it..

Heard a lot about this place and it’s “Chicken 65”. Had visited the place with family for dinner on a Sunday. The non-AC area was pretty crowded, so moved to the AC one. Food was served quite late. Took almost 40 minutes. Extremely overpriced and over hyped to be honest, considering the quality. Also did I tell you that I waited for an hour and did not have the “fortune” to have their Chicken 65, because they FORGOT. This happened after I asked/reminded 4 waiters. mutton Vindaloo was average and definitely not worth ₹480. Quantity of rice per plate was good enough for 2. So, points add for the quantity.
Ambience: 3.5/5
Service: 1/5
Food: 2.5/5
PS-wasn’t too excited about the food after all that I have mentioned above, so got just this picture.
Yumylicious
We finally went to the ' oh so famous ! ' buhari hotel.
The valet services was good.
We went on a Saturday night and the place was really crowded. We were a group of five and had to wait for a table for about 15-20 mins. So i would say if ur in a hurry and just wanna have a gud weekend meal i wouldn't recommend this place .
We ordered and they served pretty quickly though. 🥣 Sweet corn chicken soup - was too salty. So the flavour felt too much
🍗 Chicken lollipop- the usual chicken drumsticks 3/5 stars
🍚 Chicken fried rice- but was given burnt garlic chicken fried rice... had that burnt garlic flavour (which we didn't ask for) taste- 2.5/5
🍝 chicken noodles- got the burnt garlic version too but tasted gud 3.5/5
Chicken manchurian- 3/5
Chicken tikka gravy- ws the best out of these. Had a very strong flavour 4.5/5

Overall the food quantity was normal. Taste was okayish too. But the price is really high fr these factors, coz there r hotels with gud ambience, taste and quality that charge less... donno abt the hype but probably buhari is js famous fr parottas and biryanis...and we chose the wrong cuisine
I would suggest don't go for Chinese probably try something else
But can only go occasionally due to the price.
Cheers!

Buhari the birthplace of chicken 65. I heard this from my early days of Chennai exploration. I always neglect this restaurant.

But my expectations are blown away by mount road Buhari with their 65. To be honest, 65 is super awesome. I expected more in quantity. We also had the opportunity to try their biryani and pilaf. Both are good.

More than that I like their renovated interior, service and ambiance. There is still some opportunity at washroom maintenance.

The famous Buhari which is the origin place of Chicken 65. We decided to go have it from the first outlet itself (also, it was nearby). The place seems small from outside but there is a lot of seating. In the non-AC region, there are two levels with long fans and high ceilings which reminded me of Parsi restaurants. The AC section, however is completely different with modern design and fine-dining ambience. After a short wait, we were seated at the AC section.

The experience stared of well with a refreshing grape welcome drink. After that we ordered Chicken 65, Ceylon Porotta (mutton) and Chicken Biryani. The service was not bad but the order was messed up. We got the biryani first, then the Porotta and then the starter. I was quite disappointed with the Chicken 65 though especially since this is the origin place. It was a bit chewy, but flavour was on point. What disappointed me was the quantity of chicken served. It was a very small portion served in a very big plate which made it look even worse. The Biriyani was decently good but again, it was served with only one tiny piece of mutton. But on pointing it out, the waiter was good enough to replace it. But the replaced quantity was also not satisfactory. The day was saved with the Ceylon Porotta which was amazing. In desserts, we had the caramel custard and fruit salad. Fruit salad was good but the caramal custard had a strong flavour of eggs which was not well balanced.

Overall, I'd say a hit and miss. Didn't live up to the hype but the Ceylon Porotta saved the day. Decent experience but I think the Chicken 65 game has to be stepped up for people who come here looking for the classic dish.

A great place at the busy mount road, they have renovated now and there ambience is just fabulous ,and with a great service, all thee recipes are good, we tried there chicken 90 which was a top notch and there kheema samosas was also great, there dum briyani is also good which is not a new thing, the price has been increased in the recent days which is a bit worrying and the quantity is good,
On a whole a decent family restaurant at this locality, they have also got the valet parking, so that's not the issue..
Malini
We had the usual mutton briyani, prawn briyani, chicken briyani, mutton ceylon paratha for main course. For starters, had vanjiram fry, prawn fry, fish fingers. Everything were decent bt definitely a lil pricey. It costed around 3600/- bucks which is definitely on higher side.

Dinner in the Mount Road Buhari with newly renovated.we started with buhari special soup instead of our constant pick Hot & sour/Sweet corn which was quite dissapointment.Starters we ordered Grill chicken and Barbeque,Paneer Tikka - All these were wonderful meal that was perfectly served by our waiter.Later,Due to vegan in our squad we had to go for cashew pulav and palak paneer. The Non-Veg were mixed friedrice,Chicken friedrice,Wheat parotta,Chilli chicken and Mutton rogan ghosh.Dessert-Buhari Falooda

Food 4/5-was exactly on time, hot (not warm) food especially starters
Service 3.5/5- Even though the food was served on time. There was lack of communication from server. The north indian worker can’t understand native language. It is well understood
Ambience 4/5- Open eatery with full pack crowd makes some uncomfortable
Quality 4/5-oh so good.

Personally i feel this is the best buhari which tells their history other branches are waste. All in all, a perfect Dinner !!

I was here with a friend for a quick snack. We ordered mutton samosa(3/5), bun butter jam(4/5) and Iranian tea(5/5). Yes, the Iranian tea was that good. Want to visit the place again for either lunch or dinner. Will update this review when I do.

It’s become pricy these days! Would die for their chicken 90 bun butter jam, mutton samosa and tea! I wonder why they keep renovating often 🤷🏻‍♂️
Avinash Reddy
Ordered an garlic burnt fried rice and an chicken biriyani where the quantity of the biriyani was too less and isn’t al all tasty and costing it for 280 rs is absolutely pickpocketing where the fried rice was damn tasteless and cold.
Can go here preferably for its bun butter jam n chai.

Iconic and oily; that’s how I would describe this place. The air conditioned section of this famous restaurant was not only overpriced; the portions were nothing worth singing praise of.
Chicken 90 had green chilies which tasted like spicy okra. The Ranjini parotta and the Ceylon parotta tasted the same, though of different shape. I am not returning again, despite how famous this place is.

On our recent trip to Chennai we were staying at Mount road and discovered Buhari via zomato reviews. Our very first visit impressed us so much that we kept visiting for Lunch and dinner every single day of our Chennai stay. The birth place of Chicken 69, Chicken 95 and dum biriyani also makes amazing Alu Palak, masala gobi, Kashmiri Pulau and faluda. We Calcuttans take a pride in our Biriyani and we barely like biriyani when we are outside of West Bengal, however I'm still drooling while posting the picture of the Dum Biriyani we had it Buhari, it was just finger licking good. Also brownie points for using eco friendly papet straw. 💕

yesterday had lunch here with family
chicken Briyani, arabian grill chicken and chicken 90 buhari spl

Briyani were just OK grill chicken and 90 were awesome.

the bad part is Briyani which we had were left balance we requested to pack it, but they said it will be charged Rs 25. I felt worried on that when it goes to dustbin instead we thought to give that to a needy person. but even for that they are charging.

still have requested to pack it. they put that in a paper box and gave it's just 5 Rs box for that charging 25. felt very bad on this.

I request the management not to charge it, instead pack it voluntary and to serve to the customers to donate to a needy person which will give name to your restaurant.

Simply the best Buhari outlet in town.
So if anyone wishes to checkout Buhari, just step by this one.m coz the other branches wouldn't do the justice.
And coming to the newly renovated interiors, it's on part and the service to perfect.
Food is at its best😬

One of the best Biryanis' you can have in Chennai. Texture and taste is fantastic. Don't forget to have Tea 🍵 at the end, this is the World's best Tea.
Sheena Joyce
Yes I went to this place not to try the briyani . But I m a fan though. I had the amazing ginger tea and the bun and jam . I m always a fan of the tea and the bun . Took an auto and reached there from Nungambakkam and tried the amazing food there .

I have been a very regular customer to them but unfortunately I always didn't like their biryani ! It's maybe because it's not that worth the hype there are other joints who serve good biryani !

Samosa was excellent !
Their wheat parota was also good .

Don't forget these are the people who found chicken 65 .
I like their new renovation but no ac ! That sucks a lot .
Apart from that everything else is swell .

Buhari Biryani is one of the best in town nothing can beat it’s ultimate taste and quality... Recently renovated air conditioned hall gives a cozy ambience but the rates are little higher compared to the other restaurants...

We went Buhari yesterday night. Had prawn biriyani, fish curry, keema masala, appam.
All food except keema masala was ok.
The worst Keema Masala i ever had. It was to sweet. We can't call it as a gravy.

Price of the items are costly but foods are not upto the mark. Ambiance was good.

How to make Sunday more special.
Go for Non-Veg snacks at Buhari.

Myself and my friend usually have this place as a tea hub whenever we cross Mount Road. This time I am writing this because I am visiting this post it's recent renovation.

They have newly added ceiling fans which has long downrod. This would actually make us remember our old school auditorium fans. Checking out the new interior changes we went for our routine order.

Bun Butter Jam
The pale yellow bun filled with Butter and Jam; a thin layer of sugar sprinkled at the middle; nothing has changed. The consistency of taste still remains the same which is actually a good factor.

Mutton Samosa
The samosa has its same old legendary super crispy outer layer with stuffed mutton pieces. I felt the amount of mutton inside it has considerably reduced; may be they lost the consistency factor here.

With couple of rounds of bun butter jam and mutton Samosa we went for the game changer.

Dum Chai
This remains the winner of all time. Thick milk with perfect amount of tea tication and appropriate amount of sugar. Having this tea when it's piping hot and feeling the taste in each sip is a boon!!

Overall spent ₹410 including one take away of mutton Samosa.

Verdict: Best example of how some retro place always remains special!

Briyani with chicken 90 nice combo. This restaurant at Mount road was expensive than other Buhari. But the taste of briyani makes it totally worth it.This place is famous for their tea and the ambience was nice

It is a good place to have good parothas and biryani.
Ceylon chicken parota was yummy and biryani was good too. Coffee was light I felt, I thought may be I should have asked for a strong coffee.

Initially it was a hotel later it was converted as a restaurant and now a success restaurant which hold several branches across Tamil Nadu . Though I’ve visited almost all the branches the one which I frequently visit is the mount road branch . The taste is still the same . I frequently go to this restaurant as it’s so close to my place besides like almost for 18 years I’m been going . Food that highly rate here is Wheat parotta , pepper paya, hoppers and chicken 95. Apart from the food - people highly prefer the restaurant for the Tea. It’ll magical seriously anyone will fall in love with that tea . Slightly expensive the tea cost is but worth it . Someone who’s looking for a midnight restaurant and for an evening snack can definitely check in here .

Being a foodie tourist and looking up for legendry restaurants, Buhari was in a "must visit" list, but it made an awfull experience. Starting with the Ambience... Noisy, way too casual, chaotic, agitating lighting, good choice of colours though. Next Taste... A So so taste ... We were in desperate desire of going for authentic tamilian dishes or "Buhari Specials" but we were disappointed. Service... Obnoxious, waiters don't bother to understand your taste or requirement, don't clean up after a phase of meal, don't ask for your further requests, don't give u mouth fresher or finger bowl after your meal nor even the bill. Cleanliness... Restrooms were pathetic (tourists usually prefer premium restaurants for a healthy food and a hygiene restroom). Value for money... Negative here, waste of money.. Prised in premium but doesn't meet any standard.

Though I've had multiple unpleasant experiences with their main course and starters, this time I only went to have their signature tea and bun butter jam. Their signature tea and bun butter jam is worth the hype. The tea is slight variation of Irani chai with with the tea decoction proportionately mixed with milk. The bun butter jam is a spread of fresh cream and butter on fruity bun that has chunks of dry cherries and fig. The pricing is bit high that tea and bun butter jam costs Rs 40 & Rs 30 respectively.
Ambience is great. While the restaurant is clean it's not completely hygienic as people keep walking in and out leaving shoe traces which isn't cleaned frequently.

This newly renovated restaurant quickly grabbed my attention while i was crossing mount road...so thought of stopping by and having a bite.

What i ordered:
Mutton samsa
Kerala parotta
The all time famous mutton Biryani
Mutton rogan joshh(⭐)-Personal favorite

I started with the mutton samsa, the filling was proper with a very good touch of masala in it. Kerela parotta is soft just like how i expected it to be. It was really clever of them to keep an option of wheat parotta as many wouldn't prefer maida for lunch.

I was awestruck with the Mutton biryani there 😍. I have always heard of it but just now i got an opportunity to taste it. Its worth the hype. And the special mention will be mutton Rogan Josh...!! It was really awesome and the mutton meat was tender to its best

SERVICE: 6/10
FOOD: 8.5/10
AMBIENCE: 7/10

After a client meet visited Buhari after a very long time.

Our orders were:
Chilli Prawn and dragon Prawn, bbq pepper chicken, mutton biryani, tandoori paratha and mutton pepper masala.

The dragon Prawn as in pic was more in quantity and tasted good but whereas the chilli prawns came with capsicum, onions, garlic etc but the quantity was too little just 5-6pieces of prawns, why are the prawns dipped in white flour base and oil fried or stir fried, would appreciate if they could find a replacement to the white flour base.

The bbq chicken was nice and succulent served with mayonnaise, would appreciate it if they don't charge for the extra mayonnaise requested for.

The mutton biryani as usual was too good, the masala was spot on which made the biryani not too spicy or not too bland.

The mutton pepper masala was the show stealer which had a spicy kick and tasted really good with the tandoori paratha, the mutton pieces were well cooked and was succulent but the pieces were very little.

Suggestion to management:
Kindly do not charge extra for the mayonnaise.
Kindly look into the meat pieces in the biryani and masala as we customers are paying almost 350rs in average for individual dish.

Again back to #buhari after renovation..nice ambience, good quality in food but service is poor & price is high..asusual mutton biryani & chicken 65, 90 never failed on taste & quality..

I was in Chennai for my US VISA interview. The car driver recommended me to try the Biriyani at Buhari. I was early around 12:15pm at the restaurant and there was only 4 people in the dinning hall.

I asked for a Chichekn DUM Biriyani, it was served with in 15 mins. The biriyani was not hot and the only one piece of chicken was inside the biriyani. The Raita was thick curd along with big slices of onion.

Overall there was nothing special about the biriyani. It was an ordinary DUM Biriyani. I am rating this place a 3 star as I didn't find any thing special.

The waiter and service was good. The hotel location and ambiance is excellent.

Will you order bread butter and jam with tea for dinner in a hotel ? If your answer is yes or no - you need to visit this place to experience it.

We went for parotta and biriyani but ended up liking the former than the latter - BBJT , i mean. Biriyani was less spicy / tasty than expected but parotta with smashed egg did not disappoint.

Ideal place for family and friends. You can choose non A/C restaurant to A/C as I found it less crowded and waiting period for was less.

After renovation, a very neat and nicely done up place. Food is great, as are all Buhari outlets. Try the Chicken 65, which is native to this restaurant. I had the mutton Ceylon egg parota which was delightful too. Well fried and quick service.

The Famous Buhari Biryani in Chennai.

Not the greatest but worth your time. Good long rice cooked with the right onion based flavour and chicken served with a pineapple side. It's a unique taste.

These guys go with the fame of inventing the Chicken 65.

Do not miss the Chicken 90. At first you'll think this is just colour coated chicken but it's indeed a delight on the palate. Those fried chilli bits to top up the taste.

Highly recommended.

Such a worst Briyani I had in my life.
We ordered Prawn and Mutton dum briyani. The served us with old one, which was cold briyani it was cooked like long time before.

I would have not given 1 start too since I don't have option. Its all f@k-ing brand names.
Not worthy at all.

For a non Chennai resident, Buhari has probably the best option for a true mughlai biryani. Their mutton biryani is well cooked, has the right amount of spices and the Salan is superb.

Have tried their chicken starters ages back and found it excelllent.

The ambience is minimal bit service is excellent.

Best place for late night eats. Their bun butter jam and tea is a must have incase you are leaving from a late night movie. Wheat parottas and pepper paya is a good combo.
Enough should have been said about the 65 et al, hence skipping. They've renovated the place recently have a visit before it becomes old again. And this review is especially for this branch. There are other branches that have consistently disappointed us.

Hunger drove us here. Mount road branch was near. Good location. Car Parking is by luck.

Lot of seating.

Ordered what seemed good.

Chicken 65 - 0/5
Received warm so sent back. 1 leg piece and other pieces. The pieces received again were hot but too dry. It seems to have been dunked in hot oil and back.
A fail in the dish invented by Buhari.

Chicken Dum Biryani - 3/5

Mutton Dum Biryani - 3.5/5

Parotta - 4/5
Odd color

Buhari Spl Soup - 3/5
Odd color

Egg Fried Rice - 4/5
Well prepared. Good quantity.

Chilli Chicken gravy - 4/5
Well prepared.

Chicken Tikka - 4/5
A bit on the salty side.

Food was warm.
Biryani should be had hot and not just warm.
Egg with biryani should be on the side so that it doesn't get wasted if not wanted.
One of the most popular hotels in Chennai they say.. and so was the setup.. but there was a lack in taste.. it didnt suit the south Indian taste.. with sugar and sweetness in almost every dish.. and it was expensive too..the staff were mean and not at all polite.. a very bad experience in a great place

For most Chennaites, Buhari is still synonymous with its first location on Mount Road. You have to go back to the ’50s and the ’60s to truly understand the brand’s impact on the city and its popular culture

Place where chicken 65 was originated. Open until 3 in the morning!

Must try
1. Chicken 65
2. Mutton samosa
3. Bun butter jam
4. Biriyani
5. Chai

Fav place after a night drive in city.
Buhari which is found to be one of the top restaurant in the town but this one doesn't seems to be so.This place a very old one which is bound for people for late dinner and quick food.

Advantages :

👍🏻 VALET PARKING
👍🏻 AMBIENCE
👍🏻 LESS WAIT TIME
👍🏻 PRIME LOCATION
👍🏻 FEW SPECIAL ITEMS
👍🏻 TIMINGS
👍🏻 CLEAN

Disadvantage:

👎🏻 LESS LEG SPACE BETWEEN TABLE
👎🏻 NO PROPER SERVICE
👎🏻 PACKING CHARGES FOR LEFT OVER FOOD
👎🏻 CONFUSION BETWEEN THE STAFF
👎🏻 SMALL TABLES

Must Try :

⭐️ Tea
⭐️ Bread Butter Jam
⭐️ Samosa
⭐️ Ceylon parotta

In my point of view this seems to be a average place not for the food but for the service.

Had Ordered Mutton Briyani,Chicken 65 ,Keema Samosa,Bread Butter Jam,Chicken Friedrice,Ceylon mutton parotta,Chicken Briyani,Marsala Tea and chocolate Ice Cream.

The best item I had was the mutton Ceylon Parotta which was the best ,the bread butter jam which was so so good and Chicken 65 which cannot be matched by any other restaurants in the town. You can go with Chicken fried rice which was good the ice cream was normal and tea which seems to be top favorite here didn't work for me here. The Briyani was not good as the chicken and the mutton pieces were hard and rice was not in correct flavour.

They are charging ₹ 25 per item for packing food you wish to take home which you cannot eat. There is lot of confusion for the waiters there and they take our order to some other table and bring some other order to our table.Waiters didn't respond well to our order.

The tables are small and the leg space is not enough ....It's cramped .Overall rating would be 3 and one of the most oldest place but seems ok to me.

Excellent restaurant. Very good taste, ambience and service. Must try items are bum butter jam with tea, mutton samosa, mutton dum biryani, mutton masala and madras wheat parotha. Must visit if in this part of Chennai.

The place is on the main road itself, which means it so congested. The service was sloppy, the food wasn't worth the money. The Mutton Biryani wasn't good as expected to the price. The Buhari chicken masala was said spicy but it was sweet. The food overall was ok. The price of the dishes are a bit high for the taste.
Yogesh
Sorry da. The food was pathetic. Don't go there expecting amazing food.

Expectations were too much because of the ambience. Bad service. Dirty utensils. Dirty tables.

Wish we had never gone there.

Non veg foodies are bound to have a great meal at this place. One of the oldest and famous restaurants in the area. Valet parking available so no worries there. I had chapathi and mushroom side dish which was good. Friends love the mutton biryani and chicken starters here. Restroom is not maintained well which is why the rating is lower than it should be. Don't forget to end your meal with a special tea and bun butter jam which is their best items on the menu

Not a worth place for money but worth for the taste. Seriously I'm saying that I don't have 140 charactes to type.... Don't do this again I'm saying u...

Buhari ! This is the first of the 18 outlets in chennai and is one of the oldest and famous place for biryani amongst the old as well as the present generation.
1. This place has made its mark among the people especially for its biryani, which is a default dish when visiting this place.
2. Madras Kothu Parotta - our typical chennai style kothu parotta , perfectly flavourful. You'll love it.
3. BBQ chicken - all time favourite.
4. Over all the savour foods , the one thing which hit me up was their
Bun Butter Jam- this is considered one of their famoys and best seller since olden days, check out the pick and you'll know why its worth this hype. fruit bun+ homemade jam + butter + sugar. ❤
5. Rosemilk - you get the liberty to swirl up the mixture of the rosemilk , as the rose essence would be present at the bottom without being mixed up. The taste was too sugary though, a little bit less sugary and bit more creamier would have made it just perfect.
The ambience hasn't been changed much and is pretty normal and service was a bit slow.
Overall an good place to dine in with your family and have a great food experience.
#Buhari
One of the famous restaurant will go down only for service.. last night my dinner was here and we ordered
2.mutton biriyani, chicken 65,bun butter jam and tea. The food was good other than chicken 65 because 65 was not fried well.inside just raw chicken. And we complaint with captain and he was laughing and told to keep chicken like that and he return it for making deep fry. And we started to have mutton biriyani.the chicken 65 was ready after 30 min after having our mutton biriyani.. and the tea and bun butter jan was good overall good in food but service was waste.. i gave 3 points only for food.. dear buhari team please keep good service teams.

Ambiance: 4/5
Food: 4/5
Vfm:2.5/5
Service 1/5

Food is excellent. Ordered Chicken Biriyani, Veg Szechuan fried rice, Veg noodles, Chicken Noodles, etc. Went with a gang of 11. Staff was friendly, at the same time, not serious about their work. A server dropped lots of plates, while cleaning the nearby table. Their staff doesn't seem to take any action until their manager came in later on. The ambience is good, but could be better. The front part of this restaurant is currently under renovation for now. If you go with a big group, you've to wait for around 15 minutes.

My goto place for Midnight hunger.. Everyone will rave about their chicken 65 and chicken 90 and biriyani. Yeah it tastes good. But still their bun butter jam and dum tea combo is what making me visit this place once a week.!!
Mahesh

Have always wanted to try this restaurant owing to its fame. And we weren’t disappointed. The chicken tikka here is one the best I have tried so far. We also had the mutton samosa, chicken 90 and mutton biriyani. Although the biriyani was a bit sweet, overall it was great.

Last night me and my friends gone for dinner at buhari triplicane around 1o clock ,,we had a seat and asked for menu and the waiter is telling orally few dishes and he said only this is available,,,and we placed the order for wheat paratha and butter chicken. The butter chicken is very sweet and the chicken pieces are not in a proper way all the pieces are tikkas ,,,,we came there to enjoy the food but those service staff's are very cruel..... They need some training like how to treat the customers ......there should be some value for the customers who's coming for dinning...... Really we came out of the bhuhari with unhappy dinner ,,,,,plz correct those points .
Kind request for the management
Murtaza Sami
In short no service lack in management and no courtesy for customer
Order food and was delivered after 40 min and Wen asked abt it the staff was so rude that they told us that this is how it is and the food quantity was like just 3 pieces per plate for starter and that to not decent pieces
Milind Gabriel
This is the best place to have a good ambience and that biryani. They also serve their infamous tea with bun for snacks which is just fan . Not to mention The samosas which they serve and one of the few restaurants that serve this type of samosas . Overall a great experience with family .
Jaison Valentine
Need to improve a lot in service !
They say it’s the birth place of chicken 65 but the taste is worst! They don’t even give a sliced onion if asked for chicken 65 . Not a friendly place . Don’t expect too much wen u come to this place . It ends up in disappointment ! Highly disappointed ! Kindly improve ! The oly good thing is the valet parking

Casual Dining....services is getting down and just going for its mark that’s it.... Biriyani is also coming down .... 🙂 Everyone visit this place for its name and some are not aware of other places

Had been here recently. My family has visited almost all branches of buhari in chennai even though disappointed on most occasions. The reason we still visit buhari is their biriyani. But we were literally shocked when we ordered two plates of mutton briyani and a plate of chicken briyani here. They serve it with just ' RAITHA' and tangy pineapple pudding. No brinjal khatta. I think in all of their other outlets brinjal is there. The waiter who served us was polite enough when we asked him why he didn't inform us earlier. But the supervisor was very rude and answered harshly that we must have known earlier. We had also ordered wheat parathas and chicken chettinad in which gravy arrived first followed long after by parathas. Paratha and chicken chettinad was okayish but Briyani was bland and just edible. Worst service to mention.quality ,quantity , taste as well has deteriorated over time at Buhari. I will surely not recommend it to my family and friends....not even to my enemies. ITS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY.
Vignesh Vicky
Taste is good... Quantity and quality is worth for money... service is poor... take time in serving... Taste differs from different branch...
Yogesh Vj03
Was extremely crowded when we went for lunch. We ordered biriyani and it took almost an hour to come. Though the biriyani was good, the restaurant was pretty dirty with leftovers near our table not being cleaned. Service was pathetic too...
Swaminathan S
Used to have tasty Briyani. Ordered a mutton Briyani at 1:30 pm. It was not hot and also oily. Had ordered chicken 65 and it did not arrive until the Briyani was eaten. Had to cancel.
Venkat
Not so good.. prices are high and dishes are not tasty too. We ordered mix veg soup, chicken 90 and chicken dum biryani but all are not up to the mark. The only reason we went to this restaurant is this was located right next to our hotel.
Najla Ahmed
An absolute family place. They serve halal food. The interiors are pretty, with dim lighting to give a warm effect. Some staffs are really good, they are very friendly and sweet, and some are very rude. Some dishes are very delicious like Garlic Naan, Mutton Kadai whereas some dishes were not upto the mark like Falooda. Its a good place to be in with family. I always enjoy my time i spend here. There is a variety of food to choose from the menu. The brownie with vanilla icecream is the BEST here.

As many say, Buhari is supposed to be a house-hold name in Chennai.I had visited this place 12yrs back when I was in Chennai. At that time their pricing was too exorbitant, less quantity & food was mediocre, nothing to rave about.Today after all these years,I thought of giving it a try ,to see if things have changed & mainly wanted to try their Newyear special,Turkey Biriyani!!!never tasted one, ever. So called them before going & wanted to know the rates. They never told the rate even after repeated attempts, pretended not to hear what I asked & kept on repeating "come sir,its there".That itself sounded fishy & I understood they were waiting to trap me.So I went there for lunch, not that crowded, asked whats today's special & they just told what I wanted to hear "TURKEY BIRIYANI".now I asked again the rate & they bought me a special menu for newyear & the rate read 390/😱😱😱😱😱😱...no other way,I thought positively & ordered & waited eagerly. After 5minutes he brought the biriyani, with pineapple chutney & raitha...It appeared as he brought me an egg biriyani,as there were two halves of an egg adorning the biriyani.I was thinking ...will have to go for a treasure hunt inside, to find big turkey pieces. To my dismay, found just 3 small pieces scattered with lots of rice!!!!😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 Got so pissed off...😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡 For this biriyani, they are charging 390/+ tax...Daylight robbery, still continues...in Buhari...I think Zaithoon,Seashell,Anjappar are better house-names than Buhari..they give ample quantity, for better rates, good service etc..this is a planned loot of innocent customers!!I would never, ever suggest any Buhari restaurants to anyone.Don't want to get other's curse....I too won't ever go to any of their branches..they might have their dedicated customers, who don't mind spending their money for no reason...Being an Islamic organisation, thought they would do right business..In Holy Quran, its rightly said,"Those who cheat people in quantity, measurement, quality in business,Almighty's wrath will fall on them"...Fear him...not any of his creations..This is atrocious..😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

I was visiting Chennai on my way to Tirupati with my family. I chose this place because it has 18 outlets in Chennai and guessed it must be good. However, the tastebuds developed in Kolkata ain't gonna be impressed with the taste. The starters which consisted of kebabs were good enough. My parents opted for Chinese which was not any good, but I fared much better with my Paratha and Jamali Chicken. I will consider this restaurant to be a safe bet when travelling to Chennai again, but I will always stick to the Indian Cuisine.

An establishment which had been a symbol for mount road and a landmark had remarkably failed to its very core. The food has lost its credibly and the name it has once stood for making us question the very foundation of the famous biriyani. after today's lunch at your so called esteemed place, serving "BIRIYANI" with rice, chicken and egg with spice aglore. the tandoori chicken sucked the most with highlight being the naan which was justified by the waiter as it always this way.
so anyone wishing to visit this restaurant might consider otherwise and NEVER EVER VISIT THIS PLACE
