Review Piccante, Pizzeria & Bar - Chennai (Madras)

As you enter the gates of the Green Park Hotel it feels that you have left the noise associated with the hustle and bustle of the ever busy Vadapalani far behind. As you alight at the portico of the Hotel you don't need to pass the metal detector but take a hard left and go down a flight of stairs and you will reach the Piccante Restaurant. As you enter the doorway you will be pleasantly startled to be greeted in Japanese and Italian. You need not be surprised because you have to pass the Kuuraku a Japanese restaurant to enter the portals of Piccante. You need to remind yourself that we are here to try the Italian food and refrain from going into the Kuuraku. ( we will try it on another occasion). You have to pass between a long counter and a wall filled with graffiti and you cannot but notice the Red gas fired Pizza Oven and even catch the chef twirling the dough in the air. Again you are greeted in Italian and you can choose to sit at the main dining area in whose centre is located a TV screen. So IPL fans need not be far from the action while dining on their favourite pastas. There is also a semi private enclosure where you can sit on soft sofas. We chose the latter. We were presented a vast drinks menu and the food menu and my hand reached out instinctively to the drinks menu. I was quite astounded by the vast selection ranging from Champagne, wine, Imported and Indian liquor, Cocktails, Mock tails, Beer and surprise the Beer cocktail. I settled for the Tequila Sunrise which is cocktail made of Tequila, orange Juice and Grenadine. It was quite potent which shows that they don't skimp on the alcohol. We started with Antipasto - Smoked Salmon Salad. which was thinly cut slices of smoked salmon on a bed of lettuce with sliced olives and cherry tomatoes. The salmon was quite buttery in the mouth, a bit salty and the crunch was provided by the iceberg lettuce and the fishy smell was absent. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Followed by Broccoli and Prawn Ajillo, which was prawns and brocolli cooked in olive oil with chilly flakes, sliced mushroom and garlic. When eaten with garlic bread it tasted extremely good and I even dunked the bread in the flavoured oil. and savoured every last bite. The next on the list was the Fried Prawn with Mayo- this was 4 huge Tiger prawns, batter fried and drizzled with Japanese mayo and served on a bed of lettuce. The prawns were juicy and cooked to perfection and every bite was heavenly. For the main course we had Piccante Signature Pizza which had Prawn, Squid,Caponata, Jalepeno, Tomato Sauce and Mozzarella Cheese. We tried their signature pasta Piccante Crab Arrabiata and Fettuccine with Prawn Basil Cream. All the main course items were on point, attractively plated and tasted better. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite and the portion sizes were pretty huge. We finished off with the Vanilla Pannacotta which had a berry syrup on top. The pannacotta was smooth and silky but I personally felt the syrup was a bit too sweet and detracted from the taste of the dessert. As you exit you are warmly sent off by the waiters in their chorus of Japanese and Italian goodbyes.I thoroughly recommend a visit to Piccante fir a taste of authentic Italian food with a Japanese touch.

This place has replaced one of my favorite pubs in chennai - escape in green park hotel. The pizzeria is sharing the same dining area with the adjacent japenese restaurant - kurraku. Location Located inside the green park hotel in Vadapalani, very near to forum mall. Once u reach the hotel, Don't go directly for security checkup. The restaurant is located in the basement and doesn't need security checkup. Parking - ample car parking space is available. Also restaurant is very near to Vadapalani metro station and Vadapalani bus stand. Service - we were greeted right from the entrance by the waiters and they accompanied us to the seat. Service was prompt and quick as the waiters were always available nearby. Food - we started with cheese balls.. So cheesy inside. and crunchy outside. Chicken bbq- just salted and barbecued chicken. Not suited for people who love spicy food. Served with French fries. We had cranberry mocktail and lime mojito as our drinks. Both tasted good. Then we moved to the main dish - their signature Piccante non veg pizza - made in Italian brick Oven. It was a pleasure to watch our pizza being made from dough. Also in pasta menu, we tried the seafood and tomato pasta (penne pasta). Tasted very yummy. Then comes the next best part here - desserts. Their cheesecake is one to crave for. Their tiramisu and pannacota were presented beautifully and tasty. Pricing - it's a bit upscale here. But they have lots of offers going on. Do check with them to get corporate offers. Rating them 4/5 for their excellent and yummy food.

A great place for good quality authentic thin crust pizza. Laid back ambience. Courteous staff. Had good vegetarian options. Ordered the four cheese balls, brinjal caponata cheese, bruschetta platter and picante signature pizza. Cheese balls and brinjal caponata were awesome. Bruschetta platter was okay in comparison with other dishes. The pizza was excellent, thin crust with just the right amount of crispiness, wonderful cheese and delicious topping. The lime mint coolers was refreshing. A must visit place for all Chennai Italian cuisine lovers.

It was a memorable visit. The place so cosy and the brick oven pizza is so good. Dominos , Pizza hut is no match. I am just sharing my experience and feelings. Try then trust me. The crab arabiata, Buffalo wings..Mmmm. tiramisu omg....I am going again shortly as there are so many dishes to try... I don't about anyone else but I am definitely going there very soon. It was an impromptu visit after checking the place on trip advisor that this is one of the best Pizza places in Chennai.. I wasn't disappointed. There were limited veg options though. 2800 for 3; for two starters, a pizza and a pasta along two pints of beer.
Action Figure India (AFI)

Hidden gem of Chennai ! The staff is courteous and sweet and were also good with their suggestions! The four cheese pizza was the best pizza I’ve ever had. The carbonara pasta was rich, creamy with delicious! These two dishes are highly recommended! Cheers ✌🏼

Fantastic Italian Food!!!
Jaba Chauhan
Favourite spaghetti and pizza place for us. Usually not too noisy, adjacent to Kuuraku which is a Japanese restaurant so you can enjoy both cuisines too if you like. The pizza is delicious, fresh and just right. I love their Japanese aglio olio which has a buttery sauce and chicken in it. The chef was kind enough to add mushrooms to my spaghetti on request. They have a nice bar menu too so there’s something for everyone. Keep up the good job guys!
Varsha Ravi
Had a lovely time at piccante pizzeria. Wonderful service and great food. Amazing ambience.
Loved the bruschetta platter. Their pizzas are fresh and exquisite.

Pizza and beer has been a staple for me for a long time and it's hard to find places in Chennai that are fully dedicated to it.

We had the Ortalana pizza and Crab Arrabiatta along with mango beer. For the pricing of food, the pizza and pasta were up to the mark. Portion sizes were also generous.

IMO, the beer cocktails were not a good choice as they were serving the mundane domestic beers with basic mixers. They have a selection of wines that would go better with the food instead.
Pallabi Changkakoty
A good place with good food. I tried chicken and fish steaks and they were great. The pizza was fine. I tried mango cocktail and it was really good. Service was fine too. Overall, a good place.
Nandhinee Karikalan
Really love the hospitality of this place. Must visit for Italian food lovers. Our order was Fish n chip, 4 cheese balls n Half Teriyaki & half chicken n veg pizza. 1. Fish n chip was very crisps n very tasty. 2. Cheese balls accompanied by Tomato sauce was the best! Hands down. 3. Pizzas were top notch we really loved the teriyaki pizza.
Ambience : Classic n cozy.
Service : Very fast n friendly
VFM : 5/5 considering the ambience ,service n quality of food.
Would I recommend : Definitely yes, go for it.

The Place is very Serene, calm and light music really adds to the overall flavour. We ended up here to enjoy the pizza for which this place has been buzzing around for a while. Ordered a Quattro Pizza I could distinctly taste each and every cheese. 12 inch is decent enough for 2 plus an add on dish. For add on we ordered tomato mozarella pasta which was indeed one of the finest red sauce pasta you can have however I felt the pasta to be slightly undercooked for my liking. And the manager and staff was really a nice person very cooperative, humble and did give some good recommendation.

For non veg lovers its recommended to try the Piccante Signature.

Ambience - 4/5
Quality - 4/5
Service - 3/5 ( For closing the kitchen by 10pm and zomato gold is not applicable on Half & Half pizza ).
Sivagnanavathy Ksk

Piccante is a very good Italian restaurant in central Chennai. Their pasta and pizza are really good. Fettuccine pasta are the best. Tried their tiramisu, it is one of the best in town.

Delicious pizza and pasta. Awesome taste you will not get in chennai. Cozy ambiance, specially half and half pizza and buffalo wings i liked.
Yuki Jingu
Great pizza. Cozy ambiance. Friendly staffs. Nearby Nungambakkam. Green park hotel basement floor. Next by Kuuraku Japanese restaurant. Will back soon.
Manushyam
Restaurant located in green park at the basement . It has a common entry with the Japanese restaurant. What i liked the most was the open kitchen and most likely (i think so because i dint see properly) uses woodfire to cook the pizza. We ordered teriyaki chicken pizza and fresh tomato mozerlla pasta . Both tasted really good. Would have been perfect if the quantity is more though. Ambience had a romantic feel with candle lights on the table and a projector screen which screened cricket match on that day we went . The waiters and manager were extremely sweet and polite
Ambience 9/10
Taste 9/10
Cost 8/10
Waiters 10/10
One of the authentic Italian restaurants in chennai. We ate a pizza and a pasta. The food is just yum.The service is commendable. The chef offered us a customized pasta which we have not seen in many places. Amazing experience.

I had been with my friends to have a good time but at the same time was scared of the 5 star label. But friends believe me, my fear turned out to be one of my memorable moments of my life. The Buffalo wings and the grilled veg salad were our starters..... Hmmmmm then came our Signature pizza the large sized one, It was oh! really it was very tasty..And please finish it when hot. My friends ordered for some pasta...They recommended their crab arabiata..some pasta bolognese with penne .I was completely thrilled with the taste. It was just fantastic. The server was very polite and also told us that they are shortly introducing some fixed lunch. Just waiting for it. Finally we had some panacota...Something new but tasty too.
I will be visiting shortly for the other dishes. To my surprise the total was nothing of a 5 star kind. It was very reasonable....I would tell and can assure that you will never regret your visit. Everyone is missing something!!! I found it. Thank you for all the good food and I am coming back soon.

Seriously this food ia not what they actually saying or mention on the menu,is just normal ordinary food where we can buy in roadside.Quality and proper ingredients need to be improve not just put instead.Need to improve the quality of the food, the portion is lesser than the ordinary shop but the taste is just normal.

This place is a hidden gem under Green Park Hotel. I don’t think it’s gotten the popularity it deserves because many are unaware of it. It’s one of the only places in Chennai where we can have a nice meal and enjoy a glass of wine or a beer alongside it.
We tried the bruschetta which I definitely recommend, it’s not the usual bland bruschetta that most other restaurants serve. The Quattro cheese balls were also a delight.
There’s a half and half option for pizzas so we got Teriyaki chicken and pesto chicken, enjoyed both.
Chicken carbonara risotto was also good. Aspecial mention to the Nepolita pasta which the chef specially made chicken for us, it was the best thing we had.
My only complaint is that the staff should be a little more aware of their menu and be more helpful, our waitress was absolutely clueless.
Nevertheless I’m definitely gonna visit again.

Having authentic Italian food & Pizza in chennai with pretty atmosphere!! It is located at the basement of Green Park Hotel and nobody knows this restaurant but atmosphere and dishes are nice!
Sharada Subramanian
Very quiet place. Nice ambience. We ordered pizza which wasn't quite like the thin crust I thought it would be. Wouldn't go again if given a chance. Wish they work on their menu.

This amazing resto bar is located in Green Park just next to forum mall. This is one of the best things crust pizzas I have ever had. Thank you
Kanthi Visalakshi
The food was excellent! The ambience is perfect. Their service was excellent and it was worth the money. It is a must try place next to forum mall
Priyadharshini
This place is next to Vadapalani forum mall and happened to visit this place after a movie for dinner.. It’s a pretty decent place with subtle ambience and offers different varieties of Pizzas!! Ordered a couple of drinks n starters.. Their pizzas are really different and the cheese had a totally different taste.. The service was good except for the drinking water which they served as it was over chlorinated!! Overall a decent place to catch up with friends.
Srijan Prasad
Ordered stuffed mashroom balls and buffalo wings.... Not at all good...it felt eating stale food
Very disappointed with the service.. After eating the starters had no courage to order main course
Derric Joseph
The pizza’s are great especially the crust which has good flavor to munch on. Mocktails not so good. Pasta were so salty I had to send it back. Ambience is good though.
Irine Steffy Gunasekaran
They have small sized pizzas but the best pizzas in town. I love their all cheese pizza and the cheese used is perfectly balanced and the dough was never thick
Jitendra Kumar
Piccante Pizzeria & Bar is gaining reputation as a Bastion of Food Innovation and I don’t doubt for a bit.
The restaurant is located at Hotel Green Park, Vadapalani, Chennai. Piccante Pizzeria & Bar is brain child of Japanese Chef.

The decor allows the simplistic beauty of the food to really shine, though beauty isn’t the only thing bringing folks to Piccante Pizzeria & Bar. The restaurant buzzed with excited energy and was comfortably full with seemingly satisfied patrons.
Recently, I had experienced Pizza and Chicken BBQ Saute were truly remarkable, perfectly cooked and served. The dishes were executed perfectly, and the bright colors of the ingredients of Pizza peeking through Rocket Leaves and Mozzarella Cheese made it a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach.

There’s no doubt a table at Piccante Pizzeria & Bar will quickly become the hottest reservation in town.

Good Luck to Piccante Pizzeria & Bar.

Service has improved from last time I ate. They have a new manager that makes sure everything runs smoothly. Food can never be better than it already is. 😊

piccante is somwhat hidden inside greenpark hotel, vadapalani in the basement. it has some great italian food and drinks to offer its customers. ambience is cool and has well spaced out tables and dim lighting. we ordered pina colada, the cocktail with white rum in optimum quantity. then we ordered grilled brocoli alio and stuffed mushroom for starters. both tasted great but the mushroom cheese balls were little hard. then we ordered piccante signature pizza and ortalana pizza. it was a half and half pizza with different toppings on each half. next was fresh tomato mozerella fetuccine pasta. finally ended with the desserts tiramisu and pannacotta. both tasted great. they do have lot of options for non vegetarians. they have open kitchen and the food is prepared fresh in front of u. i personally liked all the dishes and the price of items are moderate like any other italian restaurant in town. they have a bar attached with the restaurant and hence it becomes a good place to unwind during the weekend or for any private parties. do try them out and u will not be disappointed.

It’s a very good place and the ambience is too great !
You can definitely have a perfect weekend!
Food
First we ordered the mocktail!
Cranberry,mojito!
Really it was damn good and the taste was perfectly blended!
Coming to mains we had pizza ,pasta ,bbq chicken,French fries
All were great!
Dessert
Panacotta, tiramisu and cheese cake all was too delicious!😍
My fav is cheese cake !i loved it with that chocolate layer at the end!
Definitely have a look to this restaurant
Flying-Circus
Visited this place first time for lunch with my friends since my friend is a big fan of their outlet in Tokyo.

We ordered Vegetable Ajillo, 2 types of Pizzas(half½), Grilled salad, Mushroom cream risotto. Shared with 3 of us.

The taste was excellent!!

Everything was nice, but especially pizza is the must eat item. The pizza crust was so so good! Tomato sauce was fresh and giving a depth to pizza. I personally liked the combination of their sundried tomato with chicken. Don't miss it.

I asked the Japanese manager what is the secret of this pizza, and what she said was their stone oven. It's designed by Italian architect🙄🙄

Strongly recommend this place to all the Italian food lovers in Chennai👍

Total price: 1706INR🙏🙏
Piccante Pizzeria is situated in Hotel Green Park,Vadapalani and shares its space with Kuuraku,a Japanese Yakitori Bar.
So when you enter the door ,you are greeted by waiters in both Japanese and Italian adding to the welcoming atmosphere.
We have to pass the open kitchen which is dominated by a colorful, pizza oven.
They have a choice of seating with regular tables and a lounge like seating area with low sofas and low tables to mimic a leisurely feel.
The dining area is dominated by a beautifully laid out table with the imported products like pasta, olive oil, tomato paste displayed in the middle.
It just needed a family to complete the rustic ,Italian dining room ensemble.
Coming to the all important culinary experience, they do have a full bar and offer cocktails and mocktails.
I went for the Sapphiran Blue which is a mocktail made with blue Curacao and Sprite ,a refreshing start.
The antipasti we tried were:
Smoked salmon salad
Broccoli and Prawn Ajillo which was prawns cooked in olive oil with garlic n chilly which tasted heavenly with garlic bread.
Fried Prawn with Mayo- a simple sounding dish but was outstanding.
Huge prawns batter fried and coated with Japanese Mayo.

The mains we tried were the Fettuccine with Prawn Basil Cream Spaghetti with Piccante Crab Arrabiata sauce.
The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the sauces perfectly complemented them.
We could naturally not miss trying their pizzas, so went for the signature pizza with prawn, squid, caponata, jalapeño, tomato sauce and loads of mozzarella.

Dolce or dessert is the final finish to a great meal and we ordered a vanilla pannacotta to do that.
Everything we ordered tasted great and the portion sizes generous above all the customers have the choice of deciding the spice level of the food.
All in all the overall dining experience at Piccante was favoloso( fabulous in English)!
This is my First Visit Here... OMG 😍 the ambience is so good... The staffs are too Friendly❤️❤️ loved their service... Coming to the food... Food was little costly but the taste was amazing 😍😍 we Ordered prawn and calamari fry with Pizza... Everything tasted good and was made fresh...
Raaghavi Senthil
Everything about this place is to love.
The food was mind-blowing and believe it or not, it wasn't the best part. To start off, the ambience was wonderfully charming. The service was one of the best I've seen in the city, absolutely non-intrusive and yet observant somehow. Piccante shares a roof with Kuraku, both serve alcohol. Since I was the only one on the table that didn't order a drink, they were kind enough to offer me some hot tea from Kuraku to go with my order.
And the food. One word. Authentic.
The Quattro Formaggi we ordered was impeccable, made just the way it's supposed to be.
We also ordered tacos of the day, which were soft-shelled to our surprise, but tasted great nevertheless.
It's reasonably light on the pocket too, given the amazing experience it offers. If you want to have a good Italian meal over a drink and some conversation, Piccante is the place to be. Only wish I'd unearthed this gem earlier. ❤️

It was such a nice experience, that I was there continuously for 2 nights. The waiter was very courteous and friendly and the food was awesome, it was surprising that Chennai had places w actual Pizza.Like actual pizza w a thin base and the right amount of sauce topped of w the right combination and amount of cheese and then meat, Mama Mia was it mucho good!!And the place also has a normal cocktail menu, nothing special but like everything that has to be there, is there? The wine selection is pretty great, though not good enough for an Italian place but it is good. The Japanese place next to it has some authentic drinks, which is something I’d like to try the next time I’d go there.

Awesome place... Piccante signature pizza is a must try.. French fries served with three different dips which are exquisite.. cheese cake also deserves mention..

It's a great place especially the ambience. The food at both sections, Japanese and Italian is amazing. One of my favourite restaurants in Chennai!

Best pizza in Chennai. Eat it hot though. Ask for the burrata before hand. A1 panacotta. Will come again. Also if you write a review you get free dessert.

I came here as a part of my Zomato Gold expedition. Both Kuuraku and Piccante serve under the same roof, as per my understanding, only the menus are different. The ambience is calm with a soothing instrumental music playing in the background. We ordered Lamb Rakc and Pork Steak. The food took too long to come, about 40 minutes for the first dish and 10 more minutes for the next one. For the pork steak, the quantity was generous, plating was very nice as well. The pork was well cooked but had an odd after-taste, which I couldn't quite place. The veggies served alongside the pork steak tasted good, especially the broccoli. The risotto served alongside had an underlying sweetness to it, so whether you like it depends on your palette and how you like your risotto. Lamb rakc was lesser in quantity, quality-wise no complaints. Only it was a lot of work having that dish effectively. 😅 They gave us a complimentary dessert, we were given a choice between tiramisu and vanilla ice cream, we chose the latter. Ice-cream makes everything better, so no complaints there. Overall a different but satisfactory experience.

We ordered stuffed mushroom and their signature pizza . Taste was very good and pizza was too soft and thin crust ..Saturday dinner worked well.

If you want to eat authentic Italian food(not just pizza) you must visit this place.

Ordered - Bruschetta Platter, Piccante Signature Pizza, Piccante, Fettucine Crab Arrabiata & Tiramisu

Pizza was simply one of the best I had in Chennai, it had a crisp base, great cheese combo on top and delicious mix of toppings. The Platter was really crunchy with different flavours. I have never tried pasta with crab but this was really great with great blend of sauces and pasta cooked to perfection. When we had the dessert it was divine. The service was good surely will recommend for someone who is Italian food raving fan.

The only decent thin crust pizza that gets delivered in this area. The packing can be better as everytime we get the pizza, the box is soggy. The vegetarian pizza are not good.
