My favorite meal of the day and this time at the WelcomHotel Chennai - the food at any ITC hotel never disappoints.
When In Chennai, I could nt help my self but go for the lovely South Indian Spread - 3 different Vadas, medu vada, the masala bonda/wada and the flat South Indian dal vada - paruppu vadai. Followed by some idlis and Dosai - finished off with some amazing coffee but I had to sneak in some lovely cheese croissants and donuts..... the yogurt as well was outstanding...... cant wait to get back to Chennai and have some sapda....

as befitting an ITC - the food was excellent. The service was impeccable and I quite liked the place as well. The spread is wide, and befitting its location in Chennai, the sambhar and chutneys were superb. My go to items are yougurts, donuts and croissants - the cheese croissants were lovely and the donut was yum... overall excellent food and service. Mention to Natasha for coming for feedback.

Finally a star property which serves an excellent Sunday brunch buffet, they introduced a new labbay’k food menu which totally concentrated on the Persian food, each n every item on the spread is so good, it was so flavourful, their aroma can drag you towards it anytime. This place definitely has that royal look of how they show in TVs. The luxurious hotel with antique looks definitely gives it the royal feel. The marbles all around are so beautiful.

Located at the heart of Chennai and very easily reached by all means. The staffs are so friendly and they make sure you have great time there.

Talking about the food. Went there for their Labbay'k food festival. They had a huge spread which was a treat to my eyes. Right from starters to desserts they had everything including the chat corner. Since it was Labbay'k food festival , the main focus was on the non veg dishes. The chef explained us everything each and every dish. Its always nice to know what you eat.

They have live pasta counter as well where you can customise your pasta according to your taste.
Deserts are always the best part of any buffet , this is what people say. Here also you will find it the best but trust me, there is no compromise in their other food items.

This is one of the best buffet place I would strongly recommend because it has all in it. Overall I loved my experience and I am sure, you will too.

Happy eating! 💜

Besides the very elaborate Sunday brunch WelcomCafe has these days, presently they are hosting the Labbay'k food festival. This is the first time I'm hearing of the word Labbay'k and it seems they are the Persian Muslims who settled centuries ago into many parts of Tamilnadu! So although it sounds Persian, the flavors and dishes you'll taste in this fest are inspired by the South with some delicious touches of Persian modifications. This visit was on an invite for bloggers.

So we visited the hotel during dinner time to try out the dishes from this menu. The Chef explained some of the aspects of the fest and recommended the Machikacha Aamti Salna which is a unique fish gravy.

So this spread includes a salad section, a dessert section, paani puri counter, usual Buffet setup with main course options, a roast chicke n kadai station, a pasta station and just to satisfy those indo Chinese food lovers one of those stations too.

Classic bite-sized portions of salads like the Waldorf, fig with blue cheese, Chef's non veg salad with cherry tomato, egg and sliced meat were some. Then there was a Saffron with feta cheese one which was jelly like and interesting. Liked the pungent fig and blue cheese one too. First time trying this combination.

There was an elderly gentleman playing the guitar skillfully while singing songs impromptu for some light entertainment. He's perfect for singing a personalized birthday song or for any other occasion too.

Main Course Buffet line-up

From the main course, the moist chicken biriyani made in the Tamil style was well-loved. Not too spicy yet fragrant made with small grained rice usually not seen in these five star buffets.

Machikacha Aamti Salna

This unique fish preparation had tinge of tamarind and within the gravy was cous-cous coated fish that had been fried. Looked great, tasted unique indeed. Would go with rice or even side for biriyani.

Chinese section:

The Indo Chinese section had sliced lamb curry, noodles and more. Tasted good.

Pasta section:

The frying station was also able to prepare fresh pasta if you wished. Didn't get to try it since i was very full by then.

Brinjal Salna

There was a brinjal salna to be had along with the biriyani just as the Tamil muslims would have it.

Other curries were rajma curry, paneer curry, a vegetable kurma and more.

Indian roast section:

This one had a lovely display of skewered, roasted chicken, kadai(quail) and eggs. Also seen here was Jhinga Tarare which is fried prawns in a thin very crisp coating. This was different and like comfort food.

Breads:

Besides the usual buns, there is also naan and other breads to be had fresh off the oven on request along with the curries above.

Desserts

Here the special item made for the Labbay'k fest was the Sooji phirni which is a delicate sooji based payasam that had soft buns on the side to dip into it and eat with. This is a muslim tradition apparently and the Chef wanted to showcase it. Very nice Payasam light n delicate. The coal smoked Ambadi (or Angoori not sure) halwa was the best of the lot and everyone loved it! It was thick, porridge like rich with ghee and nuts tasted a bit like Dum roat halwa. Then there were the usual items like Cake, ice cream and western desserts as well in the lineup.

So all-in-all a wide spread with quite a few well made dishes and dishes unique to the Persian based Tamil muslim culture that has been brought out. Those interested in trying these in a quiet classy environ can visit. Buffet is priced at 1400 AI.

Service:

Excellent for the most part but since this was invited event this doesn't mean much but the other customers seemed to be well-taken care of. Service is good here I feel.

Disclaimer:

This is an very good buffet with a good value for money provided the hotel offers customers the same quality and lineup of food and drinks that were offered to us bloggers during this invited event.

Welcom Hotel by ITC is a luxurious antique hotel in the heart of Chennai, the hotel looks fabulous with marbles all over keeping with the ITC age old pride and heritage.
WelcomCafe Marina housed inside this prestigious age old property looks good and best to be seated towards the garden and we went for the lunch buffet and spread of the buffet is not something that the restaurant needs to boast off , the main reason i have given a 4 is totally because of the taste, everything from unlimited mocktails, starters, main course, salads and desserts tasted amazing & Service by Ratan was impressive.

Sunday brunch like never before with access to pool and unlimited drinks which includes BBQ and chat counters by the pool and of course the buffet. All this is priced just for 1560. A steal deal I must say.

I was here with few of my Foodie friends for an invite. We were taken to the pool side. Beautiful place it is. One would just feel like relaxing in that beautiful place . It was super fun by the pool with drinks and yummy food. We had chat counters which served pani poori , dhahi chat and the Tandoori counter which served amazing paneer and chicken dishes. Tasted super good. Loved the paneer it was super soft and perfectly marinated. And the chicken was just so amazing 😍 Tried some refreshing Mocktails as well.

After the mini pool side party we had, we were taken into the restaurant which looked so beautiful and elegant. Lovely ambience. The staffs at the restaurant were courteous and were attentive to all our needs. We had a special welcome by the musician who played beautiful music and also sang for us in the most beautiful way which made all of us feel special 😊😃

The buffet had a good spread of Indian / continental/ Asian cuisine. One had the option to choose from a wide variety of dishes. They had a separate salad counter and I loved the mango and cheese , deviled eggs looked very cute and tasted good and the mini sub with the mushroom stuffing was something i enjoyed 😃 For the main course they had lamb biriyani for the non - vegies and the jackfruit biriyani for the veggies which tasted yum. The jackfruit biriyani was something I tasted for the first time and it was yum. The Indian breads along with the curries was yum. I loved the chicken which was cooked in eathern pot was delicious. They had a wide variety of options for the vegetarians. The non - vegetarian curry spread was less compared to the vegetarian spread.

They also had live counters for grills , pasta and the appam counter. Tried the white sauce pasta which was okay. The appam was something I enjoyed. It went so well with the chicken stew.

Last but not the least the dessert spread was something I am sure all of us enjoy. Loved the hot gulab Jamuns with the choice of ice cream. They also had the croquembouche a French dessert, tasted yum 😍 It consist of choux pastry , had a lemony filling on the inside. The pastries were super good.

Overall a perfect place to hang out for weekend for any celebration with family and friends. The package is worth the cost.

A great brunch experience with pool access, unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, wide spread menu that includes Indian/continental/Asian dishes, various live stations like the grill counter, tandoori counter, appam counter and such staff who make the overall experience just amazing!
The amount of options they give for their customer in each course was just awesome. From the salad counter, my favorites were the cute mini subs stuffed with fish and a mango-cheese bite that tasted amazing.
The live tandoori station by the pool was lit, serving some chaat items and delicious paneer, fish tandoori that went well with the drinks.
Appam station had my heart with soft, steaming hot appam served with delicious egg curry and chicken stew!
From the main course, i loved the mutton biryani an kashmiri mushroom. Hakka noodles and chili paneer tasted yum together. Squid, fish and prawn served with delicious french fries tasted great and i ate a little too much from that section.
Although most of what i tasted was good, i felt there should have been more non-veg options in Indian and Asian cuisine.
Desserts - Gulab jamun - definitely one of the best so far! i also liked the peanut butter cake and raspeberry and white chocolate blondie.
On the whole this brunch priced that 1560 is quiet a steal!

Worth giving a 5-star rating just because they gave an experience more than just food on a Sunday. Yes, we went for Sunday brunch around 12.30 pm for the Brunch package and the brunch buffet included access to swimming pool (12:00 pm - 3:30 pm), unlimited drinks (both mocktail and cocktail) and unlimited food (food from various part of the world).

Over the poolside, we were served with drinks and as accompaniments, they have chaats, skewed paneer, chicken and fish. The grilled paneer tikka is exciting in taste which made me forget that we are having the main food after this so I had more than 3 skewers of Paneer. It's damn delicious, soft and tender. All the chaats with dhahi are great as well.

After relaxing on the poolside for more than an hour we went inside the cafe to enjoy our buffet. They were hosting all the customers to the core and the live guitar music being played took us to a deep relaxation mode. The ambiance gave us a royal feel with a soothing light set up.

Coming to the food part, had usual soups and they got interesting and a huge table filled with salad and some healthy snacks. Then they got a long row for the main course which had 2 tasty biriyanis, one is ghost biriyani and the other is jackfruit biryani. Both the biriyani's are great, esp the veg one. They also had good varieties of gravies in all mainstream items such as chicken gravy, mutton gravy, dal, aalo and few more veg gravies which accompanied both rice and naan.

As side dishes, they had many varieties in veg preparations which are potato, paneer, spinach and baby corn based. Seafood appetizers were also available. In Chinese, they had noodles, Paneer Manchurian, and a chicken gravy. From the live counter, they had prawns and squid.

Also, they had another live counter for south Indian dishes such as Aapam, vada and few more. Finally, they had one huge row of dessert spread which contains dessert such as sweets, cakes, ice creams and a few more from various cuisines. My all-time favorite Gulab Jamun was hot and yummy. There were many more desserts which were excellent in taste.

Overall,

Service - 5/5

Food - 5/5

Ambiance - 5/5

VFM - Costly but yet worth for the money we pay.

Cafe Marina at Welcome Hotel, Alwarpet serves up an absolute splendorous feast of a buffet that is sure to tingle your excitement. They offer a plethora of options and they literally pamper you with the choicest of offerings. This is an exclusive Sunday brunch and worth every bit of it.

It's quite an experience as you're taken by the pool side where you get to use the swimming pool as part of the brunch deal along with crunching over some delightful delicacies in the form of a variety of chaats, skewed grillers and a swirl of drinks both mocktails and cocktails. It's like the perfect setting on a Sunday afternoon sipping your drink by the way side of the gushing waters along with munchies to go along and you really can't ask for more.

After the outside escapade, you are led into the cafe which is well spaced out and contains an eclectic mix of varied cuisines. You have your usual soup, starters, salads, main course and desserts laid out in an elaborate manner and you can still continue to have your drinks, chaats and grills too if you want.

I was quite full with the initial largesse but from whatever I tried as part of the brunch was worth relishing. They had a lilting chole & aloo curry to go with Indian bread. The main course gravies were mostly good and they also had a big pot of biryani to satisfy both the veg and non veg lovers. The salad and snack counters also had lots of interesting options such as a cheese platter, a concocted mix of mango & cheese which was riveting, a packed up slice of sub and so much more. There was a coastal angle too with appams being made in the live counter and to accompany stew & egg curry. There were also your usual pasta's and a few continental dishes also added to the fray.

The desserts were no less and had an elongated passage and most of which I consumed seemed to be delicious. The chocolate gateaux was a masterpiece, the pineapple tart had class written all over it. There were some Indian touches to it too in the form of besan ladoo & Gulab Jamun. Apart from this there were also different flavours of ice cream for that final thwack.

On the whole, it was an exhilarating experience. The service was wonderful and always willing to help. They were always at our beck and call and made every effort to ensure that we have a good time. The rates are a huge plus point. The entire spread which allows you to indulge in a lavish buffet along with enjoying your time at the waters with barbecue, appetisers and unlimited drinks sets you back by just a shade under 1600 bucks. It's totally worth the value.

If you're looking for a wondrous laid back Sunday brunch experience where you just want to spend some easy chilled out time relaxing as you please and gorging on a bonanza of delectables, Cafe Marina should definitely be at the top of your list.

Visited this place couple of days. Had breakfast and dinner at this place. Opted both as buffet and comments are here:

Pros
1. Great Hospitality and service from the staff
2. Breakfast was just amazing, all items you can think of are present on the table. I want to give 5 out of 5 for breakfast.
3. For dinner soup, snacks are served on the table.
4. Staff was very courteous.
5. Rotis are served hot.

Cons:
1. Dinner options were very limited, very less options in terms of veg starters, curries and Indian sweets.
2. You can include more items here.
3. Rest everything was just amazing

Special thanks to staff and guitarist 😊

I went here for a lunch buffet. The food spread was ok. There were 3 veg starters and 2 non-veg starters. The restaurant had only 2 to 3 tables occupied and the rest were empty. I was sceptical about the taste of the food, however I was pleasantly surprised as the food was very good. So don’t turn away if you happen to be in the same situation. The service was also good. Overall it was worth it!

Stayed for the first time since it turned into a Welcom Hotel. The old set of restaurants when it was Chola Sheraton was very popular.
This is the review of the breakfast buffet. For one, the ambience has been downgraded maybe keeping the grand in mind. The buffet options were limited.
The veg options of Pongal and Upma that I started with was bang on ITC taste. The spice and fluidity of the Pongal perfect and the chutneys spiced well. I asked for a Uttappam... took a while coming but was fluffy, well garnished with onions.
The filter coffee was the icing... strong and piping hot. Overall the hotel has ensured the flavour of ITC is maintained. Wish the ambience is upgraded.

Fantastic experience today at WelcomCafe Marina. We got to use the swimming pool and have great food all for around 1500. Food options were splendid both in terms of quality and quantity . Being a vegetarian there wasn't any disappointments at all. Desserts were out of the world , so were the starters & main course. The only minor quibble was the usually promised service of snacks and drinks at pool side wasn't prompt & efficient . Also a little more maintenance of the shower rooms drainage facilities and placement of mats at the steps near the pool would've made it a perfect experience . Swimming pool was very clean and well maintained . Overall 8/10. Worthy time and option for a Sunday brunch . Surprised more people don't frequent the place . You should . !!!!! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

My Cafe is tucked in one corner of the hotel.. Ambience is very cosy and the decor is soft and soothing to eyes. The staff are very courteous and eager to serve the customers. The breakfast buffet spread is wide ranging from southern, northern to continental. I loved sprouts and stuffed and grilled tomatoes. The chutney range served with dosas are apt. Lastly I have enjoyed cafe' Americano after the breakfast. Good restaurant for business travellers who are tired of eating oily and hi cal food👍👍👍

We took the buffet. This is the first time I am saying it and probably the last time too. This is the only place where I found veg starters better then non veg. The chicken was not well cooked. The ambiance of the place is the 80s and 90s. And I like it, anything that is old fashioned, is my thing. Coming back to food, sea food was great, fruit punch was meh, no. And yes this was the first time I have had fish biryani, and it was amazing. And yes let's not forget the daal makhni and bhindi sabzi. The deserts were ok, as the ice had melted. So I waited patiently till they got me a proper ice cream.

The ambience was pretty well lit and non cluttered
The service was excellent.
The buffet wasn't very extensive, but the item a were excellent and tasted good with adequate choices for vegetarian and non veg.
Approx 1200, though we had a loyalty card and it was much lesser
Good place for a dinner buffet

Breakfast meeting at My Cafe turned to discussion on food, as it was so deliciously - distracting. Spread was usual to Fortune hotels, but service levels definitely better. Rava onion Dosa and podi - idli were good(as shared by my colleague). I just had fruits and masala dosa, which was just ok.

I stayed at the hotel twice, once in 2012 and 2015. I preferred this hotel again because food was good and has maintained as a premium Business Hotel (not as a 5 star hotel). When I compare other premium business hotels around and My Fortune, I feel food here is much better.
My ratings:

North Indian - 4 out 5 (Dinner and Lunch)

Have lunched in this restaurant 4 or 5 times and we sat at the private dining room during all these visits.

The hospitality and service is amazing - might be due to the preferred guest benefits.

Ambience is good and the place is very well maintained

The buffet food is good and there are always a few exceptional items on the menu which I keep filling myself with. The offering includes: an extensive salad spread, some speciality starters, diverse main course offering and an elaborate dessert spread.

The main course menu includes a mix of indian (roti sabji, biryani, dal, etc) , oriental (noodles and gravy usually) and continental. They usually have a good meat spread as well; this includes a mix of chicken, mutton and beef.

Haven't tried the salad much
The starters are semi-impressive
The main course and desserts are decent
Like their fruit punch among juices.

We tried the Saturday night buffet over there in My cafe..Since its five star we expected good ambiance and we were not disappointed..one thing I liked was the spacious seating.

In the moctails they had just one variety but it was totally to go for..very yummy.

Then in the vegetarian starters he brought vada, pakora and fried vegetable and all of them were good.

In the main section they had very good bread section, then we tried paneer khurchan, ma ki daal, dahi vada , green mix veg and there to southern style vegetables too.....they had lot more variety ib non veg. Though the variety was not much but the food was good......

In the dessert there were many baked varieties 4 types of icecream, karachi halwa and bread pudding...whatever was there was very good and tasty but i missed indian desserts something like gulab jamun or jalebi.

I was surprised to see very little crowd there

Service was prompt and courteous..I liked it.

It cost us 899/ per person because we had taken groupon coupon , otherwise I think it is 1200/ per person.

This 30 year old hotel in Chennai follows the same concept as all other ITC hotels which makes it also have a My Cafe 24 hour restaurant at the lobby level.
This restaurant has an elaborate buffet for breakfast with various options including South Indian, western and North Indian cuisine.
I asked for an egg white omelette with cheddar and tuna. With no tuna available, they made it with basa fish. The omelette was interesting!
Options available are waffles, pancakes, butcher muesli, cheeses, cold cuts for the western or conti loving people.
Dosas, idlis and uttapams are there for those preferring South Indian breakfasts.
Chole bhaturas, puri sabji is for North Indian food lovers.
Having a seating capacity of over 70-80, My Cafe is an ok experience with a helpful staff.

It's been more than a decade since I've walked into My Fortune (Used to be Chola Sheraton). Had a few project proposals that are to be read and I needed a secluded place that offers a cup of coffee. Since almost all cafes are crowded these days I decided to give My fortune a try. The only mistake I did was to hope that they have a proper cafe which doesn't double as a restaurant. Given below is my review for My Cafe, My Fortune hotel, Gopalapuram.

PROS:-
* Cathedral Road has been the haven for huge hotels such as Chola, Maris and Woodlands for decades. They play an important role in making this area (My area) the center of Chennai city.
* Just like any other 4* or 5* hotel, they have a valet parking system. I love the fact that everyone, right from the security guard and valet to the restaurant managers wish you with a 'Namaste' instead of anything else.
* I went in with no idea about the restaurants and cafe inside this place. A quick enquiry at the reception showed that they have a cafe called My Cafe. Can't ask for a better name. I headed towards the right, passing thru a few artifacts cum antique shops and custom tailoring shops to reach My cafe.
* My cafe isn't actually a cafe, it's a full fledged restaurant with a royal ambience. The bright lights contrasting with the dark shaded carpet magnifies the royale feel. I was the only one in the entire restaurant and the time was around 7 in the evening.
* The night's entertainment was provided by an elderly gentleman who worked his magic with his guitar. Two televisions were telecasting the days news. My table had this beautiful looking glass chalise with coffee beans.
* Service was obviously good. In huge hotels such as this ones, good service comes as no surprise.
* The restaurant feel and the aromatic buffet did it's best to trick me into dinner. The project papers in hand made me stick to my decision and I ended up getting a Cappuccino which was amazing.
* After a few sips I got curious to see what they have in stock. The items in the buffet were sizzling and definitely looked inviting. The ones that caught my sight were the continental items, grounded beef in tomato and pork chops. The dessert table looked gorgeous too.

CONS:-
* As said above, unfortunately My cafe isn't a cafe but a restaurant. Though I got my much needed isolation, the fact that I came all the way to such a restaurant for just a cup of coffee made me chuckle.
* Considering the fact that they call this place a cafe, they should have had a drinks menu that included cappuccino, cafe latte, macchiato, espresso or at least cold coffee. They didn't have one. I wouldn't have minded getting a cupcake or a croissant to accompany my coffee. I wasn't even sure if I can ask.
* While the service was amazing, the person who served me had a hard time conversing in English.
* Finally, I ended up paying 180rs for a cappuccino. Not the costliest cup of coffee I've had but definitely not the wisest of ideas.

Overall, the buffet looked mesmerising and it qualifies to be bookmarked by me to try them out in the near future. Ambience and service was really good. The buffet comes up to around 1200 including taxes it seems. Definitely sounds reasonable. Just don't get misled by the name My Cafe. I'll be here again for the buffet and this review will be updated soon :)

Reception:- 4/5

Customer Service:- 3.5/5

We visited the place for a Saturday Brunch and lemme just say I would not mind visiting it again.

The ambience induces laidback conversations and the staff does all it can to keep you lazed out! I liked the space between tables which provided perfect me/us time. No one is shouting through your table and I totally hog MY time while I eat ;) So, brownie points. The buffet was a sumptuous mix of North Indian and South Indian cuisines with an occasional Noodles and Pasta thrown in to break the monotony! :) The Salad bar had about 10 varieties of veg and non veg options. Well laid out too. The Spinach Cream soup was a tad creamier than expected but tasted fine. The starters, made of capsicum and baked beans were delicious and piping hot, served on our table. The main course had dishes of paneer (cottage cheese), okra, mushroom besides lentils. On the non-veg front, we could see chicken and lamb varieties. I am not sure if fish was there; blame it on my lost hungry dreams! :P The tastes were pretty neat with the mushroom, too notch. The Garlic Naan served on our table was soft and melted in mouth! The desserts section was my favorite! Kala Jamoon, Mango Rasmalai, Muskmelon Pastry, Caramel Praline Pastry, Mousse .. they were all AWESOME! And Caramel Praline Pastry was out of the world!

Overall, a relaxed afternoon with some rather good food and alluring service. Well, give it a shot!

Meal for 2 (Buffet): INR 3500.

The pesto pasta tasted out of the world. The service was horrible though! The poor waiter mistook salan (dum biryani ) for salad and kept bringing us cut cucumbers with the rice. We gave up after a point. We had to keep nagging him even for water. Eating here doesn't go easy on one's pocket and people should want to come back here. I definitely don't want to.

This is 24x7 cafe of hotel WelcomHotel Chennai. This is where the hotel serves its buffet breakfast. All day coffee, snacks and meals are served here. I found service to be little slow. Buffet breakfast is very elaborate but having limited options for other regions of India. Ambiance is good. Tried it for coffee too in the evening.

A slow, quiet and peaceful place to enjoy some nice North Indian cuisine. Kebabs are really good and so is the biryani. A bit pricey but is well worth it.
