Review Flower Drum - Chennai (Madras)

One the best experience we had in Chennai.. Super delicious food, Chinese, Thai, Burmese etc. Very calm place you can always go here and have the continental and above mentioned food, that too with family. Service is awesome, quantity is very good, price is very realistic. We loved every single bite of it. Thank you flower drum team, your made our day with the magic of your hands and the expertise you have acquired over the years.

Flower Drum is a pure vegetarian place that serves good Thai, Chinese food. Our personal favourite here is their velvett style cottage cheese. Their fried rice range is good too. You can drop in here if you wish to have good Asian dishes. Their service and ambience is good too.

Burnt garlic fried rice, cauliflower manchurian dry and lime soda are really good. Fried ice cream is kind of average as it's not hot. Very quick service.

Best place to eat Thai food.. added advantage is it's pure veg.. service is also good.. parking is available at backside, even though it's spacious but looks creepy coz of less lights.. it will be nice if they work on ground floor entrance.. it's not is giving positive vibes

One of the best fully vegetarian Asian restaurants in the city. They have a wide menu with plenty of vegan options as well. Their food portions are very generous and can easily be shared by 2 people. The food tastes very authentic and they make it with great care. Most of the items were available and the service was quick. The restaurant has nice seating arrangements for small and large crowds. They have a parking lot in the building compound.

One of the best pan-asian vegetarian restaurant around Adyar. The quantity is apt for the cost and doesn't seem too expensive. The service is really good and the staffs are friendly. They are ready to explain how the dish tastes, ingredients and speciality, that's really positive. The ambience and lighting is great and is photogenic. Good place to go as large groups, has ample space. Since it is situated on the main road, parking might be a problem during weekends. The restaurant is usually slightly crowded, and they serve on first come basis (no reservations on dine in). Overall a good and positive experience, definitely a must visit.

Although located in a building that looks deserted, Flower Drum's food was excellent! It isn't very easy to find so many vegetarian dishes and varieties in Chinese and Thai, and their menu gets you really curious to try everything. I liked the dishes made with tempay, and it was surprising they managed to give it very good flavours as per the dish it was in. The quantity of everything was quite sumptuous! Loved the iced honey lemon tea so much, will recommend it as a must pair up with your food! Took time with the menu, and tried everything that got me curious! Couldn't take a lot of pictures, because I was totally immersed in the yummy taste!

Went to this place during a weekend for dinner. The place was pretty crowded and much noisier. Would recommend booking in advance. The seats were also placed very closely, hence the noise was really bothering. Apart from that, the food was excellent and their soups are a must try. The price is also decent. One of the best vegetarian Pan Asian restaurants to try in Chennai

The place was awesome. The staff were very lovely and nice. They were extra nice to baby and took care well. The baby high chair was proper height with the table and was very comfortable. The food was very good portion sizes were good for two people to share. They gave steamed veggies and fruits for the baby, which was very good. Overall a great experience.

The food is good but I don't know why the waiter didn't want us to take the Temphe curry. Was the main chef absent when we went there?? The restaurant by itself was good in the interior but the building was in a bad condition. Parking in the compound was ample.

Gobi Manchurian and spicy soup is must try, if you are having cold 😄. It’s very spicy. I loved their fried rice and dumpling. Kids loved the dumpling. Ambience is very good. I see one couple having anniversary celebration in a private space over there. Good romantic date dinner place.

One of our favourite restaurant with good vegetarian recipes. Food is tasty and quality of food is good. Service is also good. Keep up the quality of service!

An awesome experience at this restaurant. Everything about this place is so good and i loved dining here. Starting from the Ambience, and then infrastructure, the service and even the food. Food is really very delicious and at the same time affordable too. I would recommend this place 100 percent if you really are looking for some good place. Chinese food is the special here. They even have candle light dinner options and people who are looking for pure vegetarian candle light dinner would love to try this.

Had Thai Fried Mushroom, it was very good. Hokkien Noodles was also good Exotic Asian Fried Rice was good, we felt better than noodles. Momos platter was good, Fried ice cream is okay to good.. Quantity was better compared to Soy soi, price range is similar. Atmosphere can be better.
Simran K
MUST TRY : Thai soups and deserts.. You will LOVE IT!! Can be improved on Momos. The spicy chutney is not the one that should be for momos, also they lack in taste. Rest all the food was top notch and service was super good.

Went there for dinner. Had Chinese food after a long time and I really enjoyed it here. We had Chilly baby corn and spinach and baby for dumplings for starters. The quantity was enough for 3 ppl. Food tasted great. For the main course we had Hilton noodles. Loved it. The ambience is decent. Table for 2 is good with a view of the flyover. Service is really quick. Will go back for more soon.

This place is the best in terms of quantity they give, really worth the price. The taste also is appreciable. A must try for the vegetarian Pan Asian food 😍

Food is Super delicious.. I ordered Veg Balls Manchurian (Dry), Chilli Panner, Baby Corn chilli Corandiar Sauce (Main Course) and Everything all the way from Adyar to Pursaiwakkam It was super hot and tasty with Great Portion .. they were quick with service.
Thank you Nitesh sir for making it even during pandemic to this far. Keep up the work. 👌👌
Lent is the perfect time to hit veg places.Flowerdrum strikes you with ample parking space.A dingy lift ride to the fourth floor leads to 2 terracotta warriors. The Chin-thai veg menu is balanced. It lends an ear to the populist grub but also experiments copiously. The sesame oil garnish on the noodle, the attention to dim sum dips & the huge portions are all very enticing.Had no qualms but the loo are could be cleaner. Also they should try to make the most out of the flyover view. The fried ice cream had too much batter & was fried too much.Check timeless China town for reference.Bon chance !

We ordered a Buddha delight and it was way too salty when reported ( the manager came to attend to us after 10 mins ) by then we finished our fried rice. We will make you an other one take it if you want but I can’t not charge you .

I was telling him we finished our dinner why will I just need the side. He was rude in saying I will still charge you. What kind of service industry is this ? The owners please train your staff to be more courtesy and be fair

I have never had such a Chinese food ever in my life. It's a little far away from my house otherwise I would have come every alternative day. Wonderful food!!

Being vegetarians, we have gone for a buffet here (nearly ten people) for dinner. They have spacious sofas and soft music, making a great ambience. They also play some birthday song if we come to celebrate a birthday.

Service is okay. They were reluctant to serve more food though we have come for a buffet.

Mancho Soup is just okay — nothing special to tell about it.

They give two starters in the buffet — one - panner tikka and other - chilly honey flower, which tasted good.

In the main course, they provided chilly garlic fried rice and one noodle dish. Garlic fried rice tasted good. Hot noodles were served, so we enjoyed them.

For dessert, they provided one flavour ice cream scoop from standard varieties.

Overall, not much satisfied with food. Service could have been much better.

Went for a family gathering yesterday. Good thing first - ample parking space. Decent food - both quantity & quality. Fairly priced. So, all basics checked.
Something to look into. The entry/reception area need some care. The whole place (including the dining area) smells like a food joint. Restaurant should have better air !
The washroom - is heavily used by staff & not usable for guests. The petrol bunk nearby has better maintained one !
And service - folks just dump things & walk off. And the so called incharge was aloof on the business & more on a single table + mobile for the whole evening.
The brand has some name in city & we have been given the taste of Asian food by some superior outlets in the city. So, if this has to sustain - they have to learn the basics of setting up & running a restaurant.

It was a huge let down. 7 of us went to Flower drum, Adayar. We ordered Dragon chilli panner, the paneer was hard and dint taste like panner. I even enquired whether it is panner or Tofu. We then ordered corn cornet, which was very good. Then it was chilli lotus stem which was horrible. Most of the pieces were even hard to chew, it was not at all spicy, but tasted sweet. In the main course Mancho soup was good, Noodles & fried rice & mixed veg gravy was nothing great. There was no Dimsum (when we enquired they said, the person who makes Dimsum was on leave). Finally we ordered a simple fresh lime soda which came with too much of salt. Overall a big disappointment for what we thought was a exclusive fine dine Chinese restaurant. Very doubtful if we would ever visit this restaurant again.

Bad and hurried service. Nonchalant attitude of staff. Food was ok and managed to have good time despite the service being pathetic due to our family having good sense of humor. Even if we had walked out without paying nobody would have bothered or cared. we did pay for the food !!! Inspite of repeated requests for food that had not been served to us, no one even bothered to check or apologize. Not recommended.

Nice candle light dinner with my hubby..good ambience and very tasty food..

The ambience and the music was really soothing. The staffs were very helpful and courteous in choosing and serving the food. The quantity served for two people was abundant. The food was very appetising and delicious. Overall, best experience!!! 😍😊

-Good Chinese and thai food, they have a good variety of starters.
-Lemon grass seems to be on most of their dishes.
-It's a good culinary experience.
-Restaurant is not equipped to take in full capacity, so better go early on busy days like the weekend! Must try once
-The best place to have Chinese vegetarian food
-Service is very well and Good courteous staff
-Pricey, food started only at ₹300

Overall,
Food- 4/5
Ambience-4.5/5
Price-3/5
Service- 5/5
Maintenance-4/5

Great food. Amazing ambience. Courteous staff. What else do you need in a restaurant? Great place overall. Momos are a must try and the starters are heart warming

1. Food:
Super tasty and the portion size was way too much. The dumplings, fried rice and the main course was exactly how I wanted it. Didn't know veg food could taste this good ;)

2. Ambience:
Quiet and cozy. A little dark for my liking during the dinner time, but, all in all good.

3. Staff:
Very courteous and helpful with the service. We got a corner table, so, it became a little difficult to call them at times, but, I don't blame them for this.

4. Suggestions:
In terms of the business, portion size can be reduced a little (1 bowl was rice was way too much for even 2 people).
Include more Chinese style desserts or just in general include more desserts.

Thanks for the nice experience.

PS: I forgot to take proper pictures this time.

It’s was my first visit to Adyar branch and my experience was mediocre. Firstly, we made to wait and the customers who arrived after us were given the table. We ordered family bowl Shanghai soup, vegetable platter and tofu paneer platter. Shanghai vegetable soup was simply the best. vegetable platter was over cooked and oily. The worst experience was paneer platter, it contained lots of salt and the vegetables were half cooked. The service was pathetic. I asked for hot water at the start of my meal and the waiter was looking confused probably he didn’t understand what I asked for. Then we ordered lemon soda and sat for 20 minutes or more and then we asked the waiter about the order and he said he will check and tell the status about the order and he came back and said you better cancel the order. Overall service was Pathetic, food was Big No to me, Ambience was cool. 2star
This was my first time eating at Flower Drum, Adyar (have been only to the KK Nagar one before.) I went here with family today — lovely experience — will definitely go here once again.

Reasons why this place is good:

FOOD:
1. Generous quantities
2. Good quality
3. Hygienic and clean
4. 100% veg. Jain food available on request
5. Affordable, came to Rs 338 per head

SERVICE:
1. Polite and courteous staff
2. Good ambience

PLACE:
1. Spacious car park (can park about 40 cars)
2. Presence of ramp and elevator — easy for people with disabilities and senior citizens
3. Easy access from main road

Only complaint is that today being a Saturday, there was a huge crowd which turned up. Towards the end of our meal (when crowd got really big), service became slow.

Word to the wise: please reserve a table before you go (which fortunately, we did.)

Otherwise, a fun place to eat at!
Amazing Chinese and Thai food and it's only vegetarian. Pretty good ambience. It's on the main road with plenty of parking space. Good and fast service.

The best outlet the serves Chinese and thai food. A must try vegetarian place. The customer service was really good as well. :) one of the must try dishes is yellow thai curry and ice katchang.

One of the fastest services here. The food is served very very quickly. And it is delicious! The Chinese hot and sour soup is bang on, the mushroom thai starter has a very unique taste and kudos to the Flower drum special rice. Good and polite service that catered to great food!

The restaurant is located in Adyar with loads of parking space. Up four floors in a rickety elevator you’re transported to one of the best places serving all vegetarian Chinese and Thai food.

Super impressed with the restaurant staff’s values. We were going to over order and the waiter told us what would be adequate and he was right. This was easily the high point of the experience and it got better with the very tasty food.

The crispy corn, dim sum, Sichuan fried rice and mixed vegetables in Sichuan sauce were lip smacking good. In fact they were so good I didn’t remember to take pictures of all we ordered.

The tables are spaced well apart and the staff unobtrusive.

My recent visit to flower drum was a very pleasant one. I had ordered salt and pepper mushroom for starter and for main course I had Chinese chopsey and hakka noodles with flower machurian.. The dish of the day for me was the Chinese chopsey it was very good. Other main course a let down as I felt the taste was not that great.chineae chopsey is a must try dish in flower drum.

Went for lunch, liked the rounded sitting arrangement which is great if you go in a group, the food and service is good, staff is friendly. They have high rise seats for babies in case you are going out with kids.
You can try their variety of soups and desserts.
Food is amazing. Great quantity as well. The waiters are properly managed. Very authentic food. The ambience was warm and cozy. The Momos they serve here are too good. The Fried rice and noodles they serve here are excellent. Coming here is a great experience

Been occasional customers of FD(Egmore and Adyar) and always delighted with the service and food but last visit at Adyar branch was a let down.

Manchow Soup - no complaints, still the best.

Kimchi - The dish was cold by the time we finished the soup plus it was not flavoury. So the timing was definitely wrong.

Schezwan rice - good as usual 👍

Devil's sauce (Tofu) - ruined our experience, tofu pieces were too oily and left a bad aftertaste.

Ice Kachang - worth it !

Low rating is only for the bad experience with dishes, service and ambience were great.

A vey well known and a famous family restaurant in chennai. I was suggested this by my cousin who also told me to try the crispy corn starter. They are one of the best place setving thai food. The thai corn was corn fried and added spices and piri piri.
I was obsessed with the dessert which i came through while i surfed abt this restaurant. The "ice kachang" was icecream topped with a mountain😂 which was grated ice with milkmaid and strawberry sauce. Mee gorang was thai noodles. Momos were served hot in a bamboo box. The ambience was little let down and the place is mostly crowded all time and we had to wait.

One of the best Ambience that I have ever experienced. The food was wonderful, tasty and on the whole was a peaceful and divine experience..

First of all an all Veg thai and chinese cusine is a treat for all Vegetarian foodies. The ambience was pleasant and they have lots of tables. So this restaurant is definitely a good place to have talk and eat. They also have parking for two wheeler and car.

They food was good. We tried veg momos, thai ball curry and shangai fried rice..all tasted good and the quantity was more than expected. If you are a average eater then ordering one shangai fried rice would be enough for two people to feel full. A must try place. The cost for a person would be around 400.

Awesome food... Starters were so yummy ... And great quantity... Nicely managed crowd of 40ppl... 😍 My favorite place foever ... if you are craving for nice starterz the next word is flowerdrum.. 👍🏼👍🏼

The best place in Chennai for pure veg Chinese. The starters were just awesome. Monchow soup was out of the world. Staff was also very courteous and polite. A must have experience if you are in Chennai
Ordered online the following
Shumai steamed dimsums and
Flower manchurian.

I liked the manchurian but the dimsums tasted very bland and the cabbage tasted bad.
It would be great if they can add more details into the menu to help customers decide.

Can't comment on ambience and service but pricing is okay and quantity is good 👍

We went to this place for a dinner. There were 13 of us. And this place is one of a kind. To be a veg-only place that serves Chinese / Thai cuisine is uncommon.

We were given a separate room. And we got a discount as well when we reserved the table, if I’m not wrong.

I’ve never been a fan of Asian food except Indian cuisine. We ordered several dishes. Many liked the dishes. Service was rather slow. May be because the place was crowded and busy. Being located in Adyar is an added bonus. Since I’m not a fan of this cuisine, I cannot really provide a compelling review.

Overall, a good place for veggie people who like Chinese / Thai cuisine.

I visited here for lunch on Friday. The place was well lit. The staff in the place were very nice. They took us to our table and help us decide. The person who served us was very helpful. There was a nice music being played.
Food wise we went for
Starter : Panner Dragon style - 9/10
Main course : Vegetable ball gravy - 8/10
Rice : Chinese Fried rice - 9/10

Amount spent - Rs.900

After having previously overlooked this restaurant because it was purely veg, this time I had decided to give it a try and I was pleasantly surprised.

The food here is really good. The flavours are rich and for those hard-core pure non veg folk who would like to give a pure veg meal a try, I would definitely recommend this place and one can easily forget that its only veg coz of the quality and taste of the food which doesn't leave you craving for some chicken or any other meat.

Definitely will revisit this place and I recommend anyone to give it a try.

A good spot for couples to hang out. Road side view is good. Staffs are very friendly.
Though a felt a bit down with the candle light arrangements, but it was worth the money.
The staffs were good enough to let me know that ordering 1 dish would be enough for a couple. And it was filling as well.
For 2ppl, it costs around 1k.
Ambience : 4
Food : 4
Staff : 5
Cost. : 4

The place has parking and is located on the 4th floor. I decided to go to this place after reading several positive reviews. I wasnt disappointed at all. They have courteous staff, prompt service and are accommodative.
The veg dimsum platter is good and has about 12 pieces. The stirred fried broccoli is WOW. The family soup bowl is a great deal to have. The family soup bowl is sufficient for 5 people. You can chose the soup of your choice. The quantity of the other dishes is also a lot.
To summarize the positives would be :
1. Good on quality and quantity
2. Easy on the purse
3. Only vegetarian
4. Candle light dinner on Wednesday
5. Parking space
6. Friendly staff
Flower drum is usually are go to place on vegetarian days. But this time we were a little disappointed with the food.

1. The lung fung soup and the dim sum platter were good. Loved the mushroom dim sum.
2. The crackling spinach had the flavours right but was very oily.
3. The stuffed bean curd was hard.
4. The flower drum fried rice was ok. Could have been better.
5. The ice Kanchang was good and refreshing.

Hoping to have a better experience on our next visit.
I would give this place a 6/5 rating!!
Affordablely yumm and filling!
Such an amazing Asian veg restaurant, it is comparable with the less garlic driven taste buds of mine.
The quantity is HUGEEEE and simple YUM!!
The staff there are so courteous and humble, it makes your experience so pleasent!
Love the total experience, and would recommend for people with venture and huge appetite!!
We had ordered POPIYA (Malaysian spring roll) and expected it to be 6 piece roll, but to our surprise it was a full plate of mini spring rolls. Then we ordered VEG KIMICHI. To be honest we expected pickled cabbage and radishes... but the dish took us by surprise. It was more than delicious and perfectly balanced with the crisp and spicy sauces...
MOMO PLATTER had a choice of mushroom, which was replaced with corn cheese on our request. They are very flexible with everything. The SAUCE was yummm.. we got around 4 sauces and everyone of them was simply yum!
We didn't have appetite for the main course but badly wanted to try their noodle.. we peaked at the table next to ours and found that the quantity was HUGEEEE again.. so we moved in to desert..
They didn't have mango kulfi and fried ice-cream which we wanted to try.. so settled for Kesar and choco chip kulfies.. was yum too.. not too solid or cold.. it was perfect..
Completely satisfied.
Festival season - home coming - family dinner - vegetarian cuisine of Thai and Chinese and the ambience enhanced the mood.
Soups and starters were too good and then came the main course. Naturally Thai green curry is all time favourite and was rightly ordered. Felt the aroma with spices was less and so it turned out to be mild instead of being hot.
We were 6 and the bill was close to 3K which I felt was not too heavy on my purse. We had a good time otherwise.
Go for it and just be specific if you want it hot, it can differentiate my experience with yours. Others in my family felt all’z well. Advance reservation is better.

Good place for exclusive veggie Pan Asian food. Good service from most staff however there was the odd instance of a member of staff not getting back for water or cutlery. But over all the food was great. Big fan of their manchow and Hunan wonton soup. Starters were good but the Hakka noodles stood out - was done perfectly.
