Review Mithai Mandir - Chennai (Madras)

Gayathri Jaishankar
We have visited this place several times and the food never disappoints. I love all their stuffed parathas which is pretty heavy for dinner. Today I ordered Gujrati thali and it was good, but I probably won't order it again- because of the nature of the cuisine itself. Being a bit on the sweeter side. They also have a good collection of snacks. Only thing is, the place is small so might get busy over weekends and they sell out pretty fast. So if you're looking for something specific, be there by 7.30.
Vishak Ayappan
They make an extraordinary Gujarati thali. Soft, fluffy, ghee smothered phulkas. Their kadhi is the best I've had post pandemic in Chennai. Their khandvi is ridiculously well done. The oil and mustard seeds tempering they add is so expertly balanced. The buttermilk is refreshing and they don't skimp on the cumin or the salt. If you're here for the packaged snacks, the cashew pakoda, fafda, papdi and khakras are must-try items.
Nasu
Variety of Gujarati foods available and I tried there Gujarati thali and dhokla. Taste was good. Staffs were very polite. Only difficulty I faced that was parking.
Jagadeesh Sekar
Restaurant ambience was quite decent even though it is small with airconditioned. They have different varities of Gujarati and north indian snacks and dishes. We ordered Gujarathi and north indian thali which has very limited no. of dishes and prices of all dishes are little bit higher as same as fine dining restaurant.Taste of dishes are like ok but not very much good.We can choose this restaurant for their variety of north indian snacks.

This place has been suggested by many people. It's quite noticeable from the outside especially considering the fact that it's located on a very busy street and yet it's hard to miss. It's a small place but the quality of food served is top notch. For the first time in my life I had a Pani Puri which didn't leak after pouring poori inside and the Puri tasted different, in a good way so I was able to enjoy it without making a mess. Their paratha varieties were nice too, had that typical North Indian taste so they've done justice to their name. The deserts were fantastic, easily one of the best basundis that I've ever had. At the end the bill wasn't that much of a pinch in our pockets too, definitely worth the money and worth visiting again.

It’s a small air conditioned outlet near Murugan Temple, but the north indian food here was amazing. It’s definitely a must visit place for anyone who wants to enjoy good north indian flavours. Must try would be the kachori chaat, Dhokla, Jalebi.
Anantha Sai
A good Gujarati food outlet that serves a wide variety of options to eat from. Their chats tastes very good. They also have sweets and savouries, and also Gujarati thali for lunch and dinner. We ordered dhokla and it was one of the best you could get in and around Chennai. Other dishes we tried were dahi papdi chaat and Pani Puri and Vada pav.
Sujatha Subramanian
It's a small eat out place. When I visited I had thali. Their phulkas are to die for. The food is homely and not excessively greasy or oily. The food is good. The restaurant is pocket friendly. The service is fairly quick. It's a tiny place and there could be waiting time. And the seating is too cramped and inconvenient. I packed myself some dhokla and khandvi which were AMAZING.

Excellent quality. The naan and the chapathi is tooo soft and the best Gobi and paneer Manchurian i have ever tried. If you are an ice cream lover then you must try the dry fruit icecream here with malpua. Great place with affordable prices.

200th restaurant review. Located near to Vadapalani Temple, went around 8.30 pm, a small joint which serves, Sweets, Chats and North Indian items like Roti, Chappati, Etc. Ordered Ghee Paratha –Paneer Manchurian- Paratha was soft and tasty, Paneer Side dish was excellent Cheese Pav Bhaji - tasted great Pani Puri – the puri was not the normal one which we get at all the shops Rose Milk- tasted awesome. In short a small food joint with clean and simple ambience server’s great food. Location - 3.5/5.0; Ambience - 3.0/5.0; Food - 4.5/5.0; Service - 4.0/5.0; VFM - 5.0/5.0

The stuffed cheese paneer Paratha we had was so soft and so tasty... one of the best stuffed Parathas I've ever had.... the ac dining had less air conditioning, couldnt try more items as most of the dishes wasn't available around 8-8:30pm and it was a Saturday night...gotta go early if you wanna try different stuff... the guy who was serving us was kinda rude...😒

One of the best North Indian in Vadapalani. Must try it's Lassi, a bit expensive. But I garuntee it's the best Lassi in Chennai. Also try it's dhokla, Dal batti, kachori.
Ashish Taleda
Ordered Gujarati thali. Taste is good. Qty is also good for 2 ppl. I mean I found it little difficult to complete it fully. Price is also reasonable.
It's typical Gujarati thali where all the items are kind of sweet. Nothing is spicy.
It has 4 small phulkas 2 sabzi 1 dal 1 kadi along with papad and buttermilk.

Taste:- 4/5
Price:- 4/5
Qty:- 5/5
Service:- can't say ; ordered online
Ambiance:- can't say ; ordered online

This is a highly under rated place. They serve typical north indian dishes at a feasible rate. The combos served here are very good and pocket friendly place.

Its just about the best food I have eaten in the recent past. Place is a little small but the service and food is super super good :) The food is the closest you come to home cooking. Its good portion size and yummy. Thank you and wish you guys continue to be the same.
Pitabasa Mahapatra
The snacks here are tasty. I had chat and lassi. The food will remind you of the North Indian taste. Delicious sweets to try out, this place is recommended.
Haricharan Rajan
Simply the best of Gujarati and Rajasthani you'll get in Chennai City, mouthwatering and addictive food for the most reasonable price. If you're a chat lover, this is the place for you.

Amazing Amazing Amazing.

I am addicted to this place. We would have gone there atleast 10 times now.
We have tried
Dhokla, Paav Bhaji, Paani Puri, Bhel Puri, Baasandhi, Aloo Paratha, Roti combo's and so many other items.
Mouthwatering North Indian food at very affordable place.
A must visit place and I highly recommend this.
Tafheem Talha
Always awesome place to visit for Gujrati and Rajasthani food. Special carrot halwa n other sweets too. My all time favorite lassi n Phulka combo.
Prakash Dugar
Tucked inside a Street leading to a well known Vadapalni Temple, Mithai Mandir was not difficult to find. As recommended by them, we ordered Rajasthani Thali (Rs. 189 Net). The 2 Curries were well made and tasted Nice. 3 Fulkas were Hot & Fluffy but hardly sufficient for a Rs. 189 Meal. Plain Rice & Daal were average. Daal Ka Halwa was the accompanying Sweet and tasted delicious. Daal-Bati, lacking in authenticity and freshness, was a disappointer. The Spring Roll Piece was Cold, Oily, and out of place in a Rajasthani Thali. Additionally, we chose Jalebis but were left disappointed. Ambience was good, AC was functional, and Service was quick & friendly. Though there is room for improvement, the place is worth trying for its Rajasthani & Gujrati Preparations.
Divya Challem
Now a days they are not giving any importance to the customer whose coming to the restaurant... Taste is also going bad.. If you're planning to use any food card into restaurant... Pls don't go.. They are not accepting the same.. Now a days even small food stalls are accepting the food card but they're not...

Ambience is too congestive... Too much of mosquitoes inside the restaurant... Little Disappointed...
Sai Rajh
Their chats was the best . They give good quantity for the price . Very reasonable price and was fresh in taste . I loved their channa samosa .

Food : 4.5/5
Ambience : 3/5
Service : 3.5/5

You Get Tasty North Indian Food, Recommend place for getting that North Indian Cuisine Flavours onto your tastebuds.

The Sweets here taste really good, actually yummy.

This Place can't accommodate Many people and can be only occupied by a very few people.

Service is not upto the mark, cannot satisfy the customers requirements.

But, you want to have good Sweets you can visit this place
Solomon Daniel Raj A
Been there for dinner and tried Gujarati Thali and Basundhi.. The taste was nice.. This is a small outlet near Vadapalani temple.. Good place to try for chats sweets and quick bites.. Not suggested for fine dining..
Shreehari
Their Badam Milk used to be my favourite until recently I found an insect in it. They seriously need to look into the quality of food items.
Narahari Barve

Visited last Saturday! Everything that I tasted was good. The carrot halwa was THE BEST. Gujarati Thali was perfect with “real” Gujarati kadhi and dal. Perfect 150 rupees Thali for those who are on diet(like me) :P very small and humble restaurant. Service was swift and polite too.

A small tidy place at the vadapalani Murugan temple street,, few tables, good service and hospitality,, the taste is heaven, no doubts about it, starting from dhokla, jalebis, samosa, kachori, lassi and basundi and all other sweets, there north Indian thalli is also very authentic and delicious to taste,, they even have sandwiches and chat items, which is top notch,,, a must try for all food lovers and the north Indian friends,,, no parking, so come with 2 wheeler which will be easy. "Memorable experience "

One of My friend suggested the place for chats. We have visited in one fine evening at mithai mandir. We have ordered for Paani Poori. The taste was so good. Sweet and sour Taste Was mouth watering. Ambience Was Good And Neat. Hope for my next visit soon.

A good pocket friendly restaurant to serve authentic Gujarati snacks cum thali. Dhokla, Samosa, Jalebi and Basundi were excellent. We ordered Rajasthani Thali but dal baati was stale. They did not try to even replace it. Go there for light snacks and sweets. You won't regret.
Maithrayie Kumaresan
All time favourite place for paneer parathas. They serve the best parathas in town. The naan combos are okayish. The sweets are good too, my favourite being the malpua. The pricing is very reasonable.
Jaikishan PSR
I ordered peas pulao today. The rice was not at all cooked. Nowadays mithai mandir quality is very much decreasing. Am very much disappointed. That peas pulao has caused me indigestion problem. Everytime they used to make it good or atleast ok but this time is was very bad. Very much disappointed. Please improve quality. We just need the quality for the price we pay.

I have been to this place a couple of times.....I love their chaat, their Gujarati snacks...the place is small and I honestly wish they had more branches as I travel all the way from kattupakam to enjoy the food.

This is one of the few places in Chennai that serve Khandvi. A small outlet near the vadapalani temple entrance. I wish they had
have more outlets in other parts of town.

Foodie Niranjan
i ordered a paratha panneer manchurian combo, chur mur chat, malpua and dhokla. paratha was nice. paneer manchurian gravy was decent and sufficient for 1 person. churmur chat was gud and sufficient for 1 person. they gave onion and pickle for paratha and greenchutney for dhokla. malpua was ok i think it was not fresh. decent food at medium cost. recommend to others. good packing and delivery by zomato. great service. It cost 135.75 rupees incl gst. Decent meal for this price

Mithai Mandir is a sure place to visit for some affordable North Indian food. The place is quite cost effective and the combos are a must try! The phulkas are extremely soft and are a joy to eat. We tried both dine in as well as home delivery and weren’t disappointed. The only issue is that there isn’t ample parking outside the restaurant and if you are planning to visit in a car, make suitable arrangements.
Prasanna Lakshmi
I got phulka with aloo sagu and Bombay chutney. It was awesome. I love Bombay Chutney or Kadi thus enjoyed it very much. Phulka was good size too.

Landed over here to grab some snax.
Finding for North India street food in south is tedious task, well you may get some taste over here.
Although as per the name it's a sweet shop but serves snax as well.

My order at this place contained:
Pav Bhaji
Dahi Papdi Chat
Bhel Puri
Chana Kachori
Mal Pua
Ras Malai
Bombay Special Faluda

Among all of them,
Pav Bhaji, Bhel Puri, Chana Kachori were good as snax and Ras malai, Bombay Faluda in sweets.
Rest of the items really took my interest off.
Ther service over here is also a little slow.

Food: 3.5/5
Services: 3/5
Ambiance: 3/5

Willing to try their thali sometime to know Meethai Mandir flavor a little more, till then Bon Appétit folks.
Good restaurant for Gujarathi and Rajasthani food. The way to restaurant in the first floor is little cramped. frequented by marvadis in that area. In particular thali was awesome.
Geeta Rajeev
Was too tired to cook anything for dinner so decided to order food home. The items were Veg pulao which came alongwith raitha, combo offer of 3 phulkas which came with side dish paneer butter masala, kadhi and spiced onions. It was all very neatly packed. The phulkas were soft and tasty. The paneer dish was yummy. Overall superb value for the money paid. Will surely order again.

The rates are pocket friendly but the quantity is so less , if you are hungry kindly go for thali and don’t go for roti or phulka combos. Tasty and quality food but quantity need to be increased.
Srividhya Sampath
Visited this restaurant with friends recently..Ambience is kinda okay. We ordered naan and gobi/paneer manchurian. Side dish was yummy. Highlight was the Badham Kheer, which we had for our dessert. It was so yummy and taste-bud tickling, making us crave for more!!
Shubha Venkat
A small joint in the hustling and bustling area of Vadapalani. Authentic Gujarati food. Tried Dhokla, khandvi, samosa, dal kachori and jalebi. Mind blowing
. Finally a place in Chennai which is easy on the pocket and equally satisfying for the tongue. After a long time I found this place. Very nice food. The ambience could do some making up. But probably then the prices might go up.
Prasanna Venkatesh
Great place to have budget food, dabeli and parthas were great however Manchuria could have been better. Great deserts in the menu loved the mapula.
Harish Rajendran
Family's favourite eat out! Khandvi and paani Puri are my all time favourites! The masala tea which is served during evening times is definitely one of the best teas I have had in Chennai! Newly introduced North Indian thali looks costly but doesn't disappoint u in terms of taste !
Lavanya Oruganti
A very good North Indian joint in Vadapalani. Not expensive and very tasty authentic North Indian food. The employers are very kind and the service is also quick.

Keep up the good work guys! Never change! :)
Poorani Venkateswaran
I loved the parathas. The north Indian cuisine of this restaurant is really good. Best for those who are lovers of Gujarati and rajasthani thali's.
Keerthy Vijayakumar
Favorite place for sweets. The badam milk served here are the best. One amazing north indian sweet shop which is pocket friendly and has yummiest food. I love all the milk based food served here.
Shivani
This place is well known for serving tasty parathas and their Aloo paratha is the best. Though the food is tasty here, the quantity of food that we get is very less.
Krishna Anandan
A small dine-in place located on the street of the famous Vadapalani Temple, Mithai Mandir is definitely the place to be when it comes to some lip-smacking North Indian food for lunch. Their menu boasts of Thalis, a nice collection of combos, and lots of sweets and desserts to end your meal.

Our orders :-

Paneer Pulao - Rice well cooked with the appropriate amount of spice and salt coupled with a generous amount of Paneer Cubes made it worth the buy.

Naan + Gobi Manchurian Dry - The Naan provided here is very soft and spongy. Gobi was well cooked with the masala but could have done with a little less salt.

Naan + Paneer Makhani - Again the Naan was spot on and the paneer makhani left us drooling for more.

Butter Parotha + Gobi Manchurian Dry - Gobi again faced the excess salting problem. Butter Parotha felt more like a chapathi though we expected something different.

Malai Lassi - Authentic Malai Lassi with the wonderful taste it's brings to the table. Best way to cap off your meal.

Rasamalai - Spongy Rasagulla and the flavour filled Rabdi provided the perfect combination.

Total bill amount was ₹670 considering we bought 9 items.

Highly recommended for all the people who want to crash for a quick lunch in and around Vadapalani.

Suriya Venkat
I have been here many times, my favourite is phulka with gobi manuchurian combo, only that one is good when compared with other dishes. Other dishes like chat items, pulao and stuffed parrota taste are just average but not awesome .Their sweet & snack items are very good.
Gokul Deshpande
Very easy to reach, though small good place. Good taste. Snacks are vwry good. Thali meals is tasty but limited in all sense. That cost seems on HIGH side compared with other such Gujarathi thali. But that keeps it uncrowded.

Dhokala and Samosa are really good. Aloo paratha is at best. Kadhi is authentic Gujarathi.....

No good parking... bit slow service.... are negligible deterants to the experience.
Dhureshavar
Best place ever.... To eat... It was so pleasant and the food was so fresh and lipsmacking.. a must go place in Vadapalani... The Fulka roti was so soft... Never had anything so soft ... Malai chum chum was the best...loved it.. pocket friendly toooooo...

Mithai Mandir is located in the lane which is enroute to Murugan temple in Vadapalani. It is a sweet shop with couple of tables which serves as dining space.
The menu has a lot of combos to choose from hence decided to go for the naan and gobhi manchurian combo, along with paneer cheese paratha.
The naans were probably the thinnest I've had and made on tava instead of tandoor, also the gobhi manchurian was essentially gobhi masala which went well with spiced onions on the side. The combo was light and decent to taste. The paneer paratha served with yogurt on the other hand was fried and quite heavy.
Being a Gujarati joint had to try their dabeli and it was the best dish of the lot, stuffed and delicious.
For dessert had angoori rabdi and malai chum chum, both of which tasted pretty fresh.
Overall good place to go to if you are hungry in Vadapalani

Gokul Balasubramanian
The combos are a great deal. At Rs 80 one can finish their lunch or dinner. Service is also really good. Chaat items were decent too. Only drawback is that there are less number of seats and the place is small.
Nithyalakshmi Sundar
I once too parcel from this place, and I ordered their Rajasthani and Punjabi thalis. The roti, aloo sabji and rice were common but the Punjabi thali had a paneer sabji and dal. The Rajasthani thali had sticky yellow khadi and their sweet khadi. They also have pappad, salad and sweet which keeps changing everyday.
You should also try the dhokla and other gujarati sweets and snacks that the place has to offer. Vada pav and other chaat are also quite popular here. Pocket friendly and tasty! Must try!
Koushik RaviKumar
Been here couple of times for getting rajasthani malpuwa .But the last time i went here their packing quality was enormosly worst that the jeera water in malpuwa was entirely flooded in my back bag, although I kept it still and straight ! So beware purchasing liquid content sweets !!!
Sidhu Siddharth
I loved their sweets and chat items. Especially their hot sweets like jilebi, hot jamun. I am one among the fan for their mango toffee. Yet to try their Thali. Chat items are extremely good and higine.

Sudha Narayanan
very good place to have full fledged food.especially you must try ghee paroota with cashew panneer or aloo subji, even you can have authentic gujarathi or rajdhani thali over there.it is very good

Rasa Kadam : INR 26 WOW it's Soft outside and spongy juicy inside, It's actually chum chum covered by Sweet khova, loved it.

Moong dhall Halwa: INR 40: Super smooth and melted in mouth, can feel the lentil taste, less in sweetness.

Rose Milk INR 50 Bit watery but tasted good.
Gopi
Best for chats and sweets .. love their badam milk.. rasamalai was also good but basundi was a disappointment it was way tooo salty. Otherwise would have given 4.5 to this restaurant
Ramu
Nice place to have a authentic north indian dishes with good quality and cheap prices. They have some valuable combos too. Lil bit crowded in the evenings
Varun S
A cozy place, clean ambience, warm service and great food. Moderate price sweets are little expensive not worth the quantity totally worth for taste. Don't miss Aamras during its season.

Great place for roties and indian desserts . Favourite piks are their combos. Have tried all of them and loved the ghee paratha and pulka with paneer sides. And their lassi and malai chum chum is just perfect.

Good place for Rajasthani and Gujarthi food. In some dishes both rajasthani and gujarthi dishes tastes same. The north indian sweet varieties is the best dish they have.
Jananee Dhanasekaran
Their sweets are mind blowing! The gulab jamun and ghee ladu are one of the best. Personally I like their gobi manchuriyan with butter naan.
Raghunath R
A nice place to go if u like gujarati cuisine.. Parathas here very good .. Snack items are nice. Good place for families and kids. If u dont want to be disappointed then go before 8 as most items are finished after that

Had been to mithai mandir last month. Amazing food at such a reasonable cost! Looooved the combos. We had gobi sabji and panner butter masala. Along with papad and rotis/naan. The badam kheer was out of the world ! Perfect sweetness. Small place, it is not about the ambience but food in general. Its easy to miss the place so keep your eyes on the right towards the road that leads to murugan temple.
