This was my 2nd trip to Chennai and my 2nd Murugan idli outlet that i tried out! This one is quite different from the first one that i tried out which was in t-nagar. This is more calm and quaint. Coming to food, we ordered their podi idli, butter masala dosa, rava dosa, paniyaram, wheat halwa, milk halwa and jigarthanda. The idli was exceptional, 5/5, next came the rava dosa, yum! The halwas were delicious as well, they bought out a tray which had all the different sweets they offer, making it easy to choose. The person with the tray was low on patience though. Jigarthanda, well named, very very very cold drink, quite yum but didn't have the same taste as i remember from my last visit. Service was okay, in comparison to my last visit, I'd say not that great. Food: 4/5 Ambience: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Value for money: 4/5

Murgan idli shop in chennai for its taste. Obviously its true the taste was so good and whenever the food become tasty so we have paymore. The fud is little bit expensive. The idli ,chuntney ,vada and coffee was soooo good. The maintained the shop very clean and tidy. The waiters was well coorperate and waiting time for fud was less . They also provide sweets we can buy.

Neat place for awesome hot idlies and crispy dosas. Was so nice to many varieties of chutnies (coconut, tomato, pudina and coriander) with sambar for idly. But I was surprised that only few chutney were nice and it was compromised with awesome sambar. Their coffee was really awesome. Ambience is basic and neat. Do visit for their breakfast and tiffin items.

If you eat Ghee Podi Idly here i am pretty sure you will get addicted to its taste and flavour of ghee and podi. It comes with 4 kinds of chutney and sambar. Cost is very reasonable and also quality of food is awesome. Service was excellent.

Great place to start mornings, Elai Sapadu not that crowded.

Ordered 3 plates of Idli and got only one. When I called them to complain, they kept cutting the call. When zomato support reached out to them, they refused to speak in any language other than Tamil.

The place is slowly changing. Dont really like the taste in this particular outlet. The chutneys are all changing. The only one which I like is tomato chutney. That's the only thing I live for, other wise I wint even go to this place. Also I feel that the Plain dosa, the size of it has reduced. Hope they don't change anymore.

The best idlis in the world. They are soft and tasty. They serve idlis with podi ( on demand) , sambar, white chutney, mint chutney . Also their choice of chutney is amazing. So many choices

The soft idilis and crispy dosai went really well with the sambhar and chutneys. The dosa was perhaps oily and definitely not an option to choose for those who are dieting. The Jigarthanda didn't work for me. I expected a lot when I was trying it for the first time and to honest I was disappointed. The drink had a completely frozen ice-cream on the top which I had to wait for a while for the ice to melt. The entire drink was not thick and had a lot of sugar. The food was served in banana leaf and hence the obvious enhancement in the experience. I personally love eating on a banana leaf. The staff were courteous and the ambiance was simple and the place was quite. The cost was a bit in the expensive side but definitely worth a try.

Never tried Lunch Items from Murugan Idly Shop But Today When I was searching for Tamarind Rice , Luckily I found here and Thank God I tasted atleast now cuz It was Too good .. I got Two boxes and two of them<br/>got over .. It was really good .. But I smelled Pudina in Tamarind rice , I dunno Y cuz It tasted like Tamarind rice but had Pudina Smell 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

Favourite for its chutneys, but at times they give old chutneys and less chutney varieties, they usually have around 4 varieties! And all taste differently good

This is a must go place!! I swear I have not tasted idlis and dosas as good as this murugan idli shop. Their variety of chutneys are amazing and the jigirthanda too! I love their specialities such as podi dosa, podi idli and etc. Do come here for breakfast or dinner.

I placed order and was waiting for 30 minutes. It was a simple dish and called the restaurant 4 times to know the order status. They did not reject or accept. After 30 minutes it got cancelled

Rest of the food is good, hygienic, and tasty at the same time but right now I am impressed by something totally different. "JIGAR THANDHA" I LOVED IT. It's almost as if nectars of God is making it's way through your your tiny little throat leaving love and craving all the way. And only thing you wish is a whole lot more of it. Yes, it's that good. I ordered 2 jigardhanda using zamoto two days (19th dec 2018 )back of 50% offer price (rs 88). What I got was only the liquid with out ice cream and gova. This was disappointed for me and stop ordering during offer time. I lost trust in ordering food online

Very worst service they gave without sambar for plain dosa, 8 idli’s, they simply saying not enough delivery boys are there. I can adjust with chattnis they provide 3 varaities, but kids wont accept it. Pls check your parcels before they leave from your place.

Hence take precaution on think before ordering using zomato.

This place is on Arcot Road in Vadapalani, close to Vadapalani Depot and near where the road diverts to Saligramam. Visited this place quite a few times and this place offers wide range of Tiffins (Dosai, Uthappam and several variants, Idly, Podi Idly, Paniyaram, Vadai etc), Snacks, sweets and of course the most popular Jigar Thanda. <br/><br/>Food tastes mostly Good. Whatever you order is freshly prepared and served in Banana leaves and with generous helpings of freshly prepared chutneys (coconut, ginger etc), ground Podis and Pipingly hot Sambar. They usually take sometime to prepare the food and the time of waiting depends on size of the crowd. <br/><br/>Though food tastes Good, the ambience this place offers is just about average and they don’t even take proper care to keep the place free of mosquitoes, to whom you need to often donate blood while eating food. Even service wise, it is very slow sometimes and you need to wait several minutes for an extra morsel of Sambar or Chutney. <br/><br/>Murugan Idly shop is a brand and has an image and reputation because of which people regularly visit this place. Instead of taking this for granted, they should work on their pace of service and decency of the place so people can continue to come and dine in!

poda idlies missing

The food from Murugan idli shop is so dependable. This is our go to place for tasty south Indian fare. I love all of their fare. this time too their butter podi dosa, rava dosa, onion oothappam, idli and vada didn't disappoint. However, considering their place in valasaravakkam was so close to my mom's place I thought the delivery was very slow. The food was not hot and the vada though tasty was not at all crisp.

Never had an idly that is so soft, white and melt-in-mouth like here..all the other foods are top notch too..this is not a posh place where you have satin cloth on table and fancy cutlery but it's kept clean and looks neat which is the basic of what I expect from a restaurant like this. Ok, I agree that the idly is super soft, but definitely not worth rs 17/piece. I had ghee podi idly that tasted good, dint feel any aroma of ghee... Also not that great or heavenly as many rave about it. I don't know why people praise a lot about it. <br/><br/>To tell about the chutneys, all three tasted tooo good though I could not find wat it is. I added .5 just for chutneys, I would give only 3 for idly's taste. <br/>An overhyped place for sure.

The food was pathetic.never thought Murugan idli shop's quality would degrade so much....the sambar was so bad that the ones we get in road side shops would be better. Due to high demand,they have diluted the chutneys so much that it was super watery with no salt. And the coconut chutney was not packed properly n it had leaked out totally....very ov errated and pricey for such cheap quality food...Sunday dinner messed up...sorry Murugan Idli....had been a regular dine in customer ... We better don't meet again..... PATHETIC FOOD

Wah!That was my feeling to be exact after my meal there.Its very closeby to my college,so me and my decided to go there for lunch.I ordered a ghee podi dosa first.The dosa along with the sambar was just too good.Next was the ghee podi idly.Touch the idly,and ghee would ooze out of it!Pure bliss it was.A good south Indian meal would make you feel sleepy after eating and I was slept off the entire a.n session :p.So I'd say the food was more than pretty good.I felt the dosas were a little overpriced at 83₹ but the idlies(14₹ each) and ghee podi idlies (25₹ each) were simply incredible.

It's one of the favourite dinner spot for me. The ghee podi idlies are the best item one can ever imagine of. Me an idly hater by nature started getting fond of idlies after tasting here. The sugar pongal served here gives you a very good feel. Worth of money and the servers are friendly.

Quantity too less. Not worth the money at all. In the picture it showed 3 Idlis for ₹19. Only one got delivered. Uttappam was very small. I’m still hungry after spending like ₹124. Wish I could get at least ₹50 back, so that it would be worth the amount of food there was.
