Review Hotel Krishna Prasad Restaurant - Chennai (Madras)

In Sowcarpet went to have snacks during shopping πŸ›’πŸ›οΈ. A decade old shop with pocket friendly food and snacks. Tried kichidi, masala dosai, plain dosai and roti. Ambience not that great but food is good. Not many dosai shops in nearby visinity other than chat shops.

The best place to eat happily in the middle of a crowded road. There are a variety of dosas, all of which are quality and tasty. I haven't eaten anything else. Masala dosa can definitely be eaten. Because nowhere else does it taste like this. A unique recipe. Sometimes there is a lack of space. That's the only thing I see as lacking. Even if 10 people think they should eat together, there is space upstairs. If you are travelling on NSC Bose Road, then definitely eat at this restaurant and then go away. And a great restaurant that doesn't have much of a quality price.

Have visited this place many times and their idly, vada and dosa is tasty, but the dosa size is quiet small, they can increase the size little bit more they even have other things like poori masala and barotta kurma, but the people come here mainly for idly, vada and dosa which is great.

Since childhood i have been eating idlies and dosas from this place. Never disappointed. Always crowdy. This is my place for everything, like for breakfast in train, during sickness , when no food is been cooked at home. Best part is that they have jain sambhar only for all days.

Had been my go to restaurant for daily lunch for almost 3 years. The idlis, onion uttapam, Pongal and onion dosa were my favourites. Since, I am out of chennai, I really miss that freshness of coconut chutney and I must say that was THE best sambhar I ever had in an eatery. Try their filter coffee, it’s quite good.

One of the oldest place in this locality.
The food has still been constant from years and its a comfort food.
Always crowded for dine in and delivery

Must try
Idly, dosa, onion uttappam
Their vada is to die for.

Its open 5.30 in the morning and open throughout the day till 10pm
Serves food in a/c and non a/c restuarant.
This is my go to place for any occasion, any day, any time. It is one of the oldest restos in chennai. I grew up having idlis, vadas and dosa from here. From my grandparents to my father to me, this has been our palace for south Indian delicasy.

The taste has not faded even a bit in like some 30 years. The chutney and sambhar are finger licking. The ambience is decent one but "who needs an ambience when you got your tummy happy".

The best part about the place is its pure, hygenic and the quality. Doctors recommend this place even when your sick because such is the quality.

Please do visit.

Had a Mini meals and a Filter coffee here. Meals tasted really good πŸ‘Œand the quantity was more than sufficient for one person. Filter coffee was average.

Quality food at pocket friendly price πŸ‘πŸ‘
I visited today morning. Food has an authentic taste. Hotel will be very small but it is very crowded always. I didn't find any place to seat. So I waited for people do complete their breakfast.

We ordered dosa and idli. Sambar chutney are all good. A coffee makes a breakfast complete. Dosa is 50rs. Idli 25rs. Coffee 22rs.

A very nice place to have a nice breakfast. I think I will visit often.

Food 4.5/5
Ambience 2/5
Price 4/5

Pocket friendly with good taste.

Hot steaming idlis are always being served across the tables. Their podi dosa is a delicacy. Very busy place ! But you will throughly enjoy your meal if your not bothered about ambience and the heavy flowing crowd.

This restaurant in Sowcarpet has been funtioning for decades now. There was a time when this place was one of the best places in Sowcarpet, offering South Indian food, but now, it is just a place offering South Indian food. Over the years, only the prices of the items have increased, while the quantity has remained avarage, and the quality, the same.

If you've stayed in Chennai and visited this place when it was the best, or heard of it a lot from your elders, the only reason to visit this place is to get all nostalgic, or make the elders feel all nostalgic.

Happy Eating.

Ciao.

This is THE place we go for parcel sambhar, rava dosa and vadai on lazy sunday mornings!!
The special vadai served here is awesome!!
Sambhar has a distinct taste here!!
Sriram Sundar Muthukumaran
Saw the raving reviews in Zomato and went there for breakfast.

Had pongal, vada. Food was decent.

The price surprised me. For the place they serve at, the quantity they serve, the price was shocking, the pongal was 60 and vada 18.

Bottomline - Decent south Indian food, but pricey

This place is best for south Indian food. Perfect taste of South Indian. Prices might be Lil high if we compare it with the ambience. The ambience is not up to the mark. Best thing to try here is sambar Vada and Chutney dosa. Food is served super fast. I won't prefer to drink water which they provide. Because most of the time I find water to be contaminated. On Sundays it's very crowded. There won't be place to stand also. And on Sunday morning many people come here with their friends after a good morning walk or a morning cricket match. There is no place to park bike or car which make difficult for travelers.

Daaaamn , if you are an ardent lover of vada and sambhar you should visit this place . Had stepped into this place right after having idly and uthappam from seena Bhai's stall but since my cravings for sambhar was at it's Pinnacle couldn't refrain from entering here .
Had ordered a plate Idly ( 2 nos - Rs.24) and a Vada (1 no - Rs.22) . They were generous enough to provide with how much ever sambhar and chutney was demanded .

PS : They've increased the price of food xD Don't get misguided with the menu card on the page . Nevertheless , it's worth it and duhh ,with increase of price in raw materials it's definitely not complainable.

It's an old treasure. You can't get a good ambience here as the hotel is pretty old. The taste and quality of the food made the hotel to stand for decades.

Sri Krishna Prasad - NSC Bose road, Sowcarpet

Food and Flavour: 4/5
Service: 2.5/5
Packaging: 4/5
Value for Money: 4.5/5

After this meal I tried from the legendary Hotel Sri Krishna Prasad, an all vegetarian restaurant, I want to go back to try the other, tiffin varieties that it's revered for. Had gone to Wall Tax road for a meeting and was offered lunch at the office. I was very much eager to eat(even before our meeting πŸ˜…) as I heard the name.

Mini meals/limited meals (Rs.70) - First of all the price tag for the food is cheap considering they still sell at this rate for the quality provided. The meal consisted of the following:-

Vegetable rice - Well cooked, aromatic rice with peas, carrots, beans and capsicum.

Chappati - Single chappati very much like home made.

Beetroot gravy - Beetroot and dry beans(mocha kotta) based semi gravy side. Seasoned well with sesame seeds. Great pair with the curd rice.

Vegetable Kurma - Sooperb non-spicy kurma to go with the chappati. Sad it was limited quantity! Perfect oil content.

Sambar Rice - Ghee rich, seasoned sambhar rice. Perfect as it didn't overpower the taste of the rice.

Curd Rice was good. Good quality curd used. Last but not the least, one papad/aplam which was crisp! Yes, crisp! Hardly have I eaten crisp papad at functions/weddings or anywhere away from home.

Food quality is a stand out. Pricing is great and for other items on the menu as well. This place is an old setup, with mostly mature waiters/staff. So, the service isn't the same at every table. I went there after the meeting to get a coffee but was crowded. Delivery was completed in 25 minutes. Meal costs Rs.70. Do try out the chappati and korma combo, podi dosa.

Good place for quick bites on the busy sowcarpet lanes. Not a place for a laidback kinda experience but if you are looking for a quick bite and move on, this is the place to be in Sowcarpet.

No food lover can miss this place for breakfast
As per my judgement
The best of their preparations are as follows
1 white coconut chutney ( best in town )
2 medu vadai ( best in town )
3 idly
4 Pongal
And taste is consistent and ITS
POCKET FRIENDLY
ITS ON NSC BOSE ROAD IN SOWCARPET
Amazing food at cheap prices .. not one thing on the menu here disappoints . The place is always buzzing with people 7 days a week .. the parotha korma is a speciality here ... and the coffee here is absolutely smashing

Amazing food and cheap prices.
My usual adda for south indian craving while shopping in the streets of sowcarpet.
This place is in an easy location and provides ample space for parking. The food served is hot and fresh .
My favourites include idli, podi dosa and masala dosa.
Seating is a little cramped and they have a small space for air conditioned dining.
Amith
Have been eating here since I was 5years old.. The taste is awesome.. They have ordinary dining area and Ac in 1st floor. Parking can be a prob during peak hours.

Sambar idly, Dosai and Onion uthapam are my personal favorites..

Krishna Prasad is a name famous for idly dosa and sambar Wada in Sowcarpet. It enjoys the rep of a quality food outlet which is lite on pocket and good on plate. Many traders in Sowcarpet have breakfast here. I regularly have sambar Wada and a cup of coffee here. They could pour you unlimited sambar as long as there's some wada left in the bowl.:p it's better than anyother south Indian idly dosa restaurant in Sowcarpet. Don't expect any professional restaurant service. As it's a old restaurant managed by old and conservative non experimental people. No interior theme nothing. Plainly the food wins customers for KP.
Aditya Chouraria
It's like a heritage more than a typical south Indian restaurant. One of the finest idlis in town. The tenga (coconut) chutney is the icing on the cake, so thick and in every dip u feel real coconut.
Pricing - 4/5 ( very economical)
Service - 4.5/5 ( quick )
Food - 4.5/5 ( best in the dishes they offer)
Overall , whether u get delivery or a la carte , ur taste buds are surely gonna linger.

One of the very few places in Chennai where u will be able to get Medu Vada- all time (be it breakfast or dinner), it's always golden brown in colour, crispy outside and airy inside and they just excellent. Eating Medu Vada here will be an experience for u. I have been visiting this place since my childhood. Since then, there wasn't a single day ,that I can recall, when medu Vada tasted bad, it is always excellent . Am really amazed by their consistency and their excellence in making the Vada.

U have the option of sambar Vada or plain Vada. I would suggest u to try the Vada plain coz it's taste excellent by itself. Some days they will serve Keera Vadai or Onion Vada. But Medu Vadai is always there in their menu.

Other things to try

Idly- Idlys are guud too but not tht good as Vadas. It's a typical udipi Idly. U can opt for sambar idly, which is their special too. And u can ask for some more sambar too. They are generous in serving sambar. Sometimes u feel like the amount of sambar they pour for two idlys is enormous but no complaints coz sambar taste so gud tht no one will ever waste sambar in their plates.

Podi onion uthappam- it tastes excellent . the podi and onion will seem to be as if it is glued to uthappam. They will turn up in golden brown and cooked to perfection (Murugan Idlys Onion uthappam is no way near to this) When u see them ur mouth will water unconsciously. They taste gud but more than tht they will appear gud too.

Rose milk- OH MY GOD. It is divine tht too on a hot summer. It will be thick, cold, the essence will be spot on. When u taste them u will feel like ur in heaven. Never miss even if u have a high fever..lol!!!!

Pongal and dosas- will be in the not so bad category. But worth trying it.

Accompaniments-
They serve sambar how much ever u want. Waiters will be wandering with accompaniments all the time. So u will never ever run out of accompaniments. Ask for their special chutney of the day. Generally it will be lying on the table but of u don find ask for it.

When to visit- don ever try this place on a Sunday evening. Coz it's very very hard to find a place for four and u will end up sitting here and there. Apart from tht u can visit any days. Weekdays are better.

It's located near the junction of NSC Bose Road and Waltax Road in Park Town. Beware of the traffic in that area. Walking to tht place is preferred.

If ur a die hard fan of Medu Vada. U cannot miss this place. Enjoy !!!!!!!

Another legendary place in Chennai esp. for the north Indians residing here. Try there Coconut Chutney. It's the best. All their dishes are good. Sambar is good too. All this with a glass of filter coffee. A must.

Went with family to fulfill my hunger after shopping.....

the place is litttle cramped....

price is ok...

taste is good... and they serve it hot....

although this has high ratings...i didnt like much....

A great place to have South Indian food in sowcarpet ...
Idly , vadai and chutney is it speciality . this place only serves Jain sambar and it is the beat

What do I say about this place, visited this place last week at around 11 am. Ordered a plate of Idly and one special vada. Idly was soft and the chutney was good with a flavour of ginger. The special vada was indeed special, it was keerai vada and was really good, crispy outside and meaty outside.
Out of curiosity I ordered Medu Vada, which was awesome. Fried to perfection and enough pepper in it to set your mouth on need some more mode.

Worth the money they charge, however I wish to put it in record that the attitude of waiters should definitely change.
Sarav
A minimal South-Indian diner located on NSC Bose road, this place is famous among the locals.

Any reference to the the parking or the ambience can only be meant as a joke

The service is quick but not very friendly

But the food is never disappointing. Their trademark dish is the Onion oothappam which is covered in idly-chilly powder. It is crisp on the surface but soft on the inside. The idlis could be better. But at their prices, who is complaining? The chutney is among the best I have tasted in Chennai.Β

The sambar vadai is another winner and it usually comes in pairs but if you insist on a single vadai, they oblige. The Pongal is again one dish that they never go wrong with. The ghee dosas are also worth a mention.

Krishna Prasad! "KP" as it is fondly known is one restaurant that I have eaten all my life. This restaurant is not at all fancy and you might even miss to notice while passing by if not for the number of vehicles outside and even more number people inside. The nameboard outside is decades old with no lights on it.

To be honest, KP is a life saver for many a office-goers around the area.

Listing down a few reasons why it has a crazy fan following in this part of Chennai.
1) The coconut chutney they serve is simply the best you will ever get anywhere in Chennai. It is nice, spicy and delicious. Infact it is so great, that a lot of people often end up keeping that as a benchmark for the taste while visiting other south indian restaurants. I end up disappointed almost 110 % of times because you just cannot beat the taste or even come close. Just not like KP is what I end up telling myself even if I enjoy.
2) Their Sambar again not very watery like in most restaurants, but a little thick with less number of veggies in it (lot of restaurants serve half a tomato and 2 spoons of sambar in a bowl). Coming to the taste, it has an unusual tanginess along with being sweet and spicy. It is a mixture of tastes and you end up being confused (in a good way) whether it is Sweet/Spicy/Tangy. Irrespective of what it tastes like, it is still one of the best sambars in town. My personal favourite beating Welcome and Ratnacafe hands down. YES!!! You are reading it right:)
3) They are generous when it comes down to sit down diners. The chutneys and sambars are free flowing and you will never run out of it.
4) Everything is freshly made. These guys are very calculative and the management ensures that there is minimal wastage which is why they keep preparing stuff (chutney/sambar/vadas) etc in regular intervals. So nothing is stale.
5) Their idlies are soft, great, not too heavy on the stomach and fills you right. The vadas are nice and crispy, plus they taste better than most of the restaurants. Other popular dishes here are the pongal, Podi Uthappam and khichdi. Pretty much everything here is great nothing to complain about. Never tried their meals, but having noticed the number of people it attracts it must be good too.
6) They start early @ 6ish, which is a blessing in disguise. A lot of office/college goers who start their day early end up here for their breakfast or parcel them. Though you get only idly/vada/pongal at that time.
7) The housewives in and around Sowcarpet love this place and thank god for KP. Wondering Why?? Just because they do not have to cook dinner on Sundays. 98 out of 100 families end up getting their dinner parcelled from KP. It is like a weekly social gathering here because you end up meeting the same people everyweek. Lol! Regulars swear by this place. Sunday's this place is jampacked. The crowd multiplies in no time for parcel. The crowd for takeaway is more compared to dining in(where people again are waiting in queue). The restaurant can accomodate 80-100 ppl at one go 70 at the ground floor and 30 on the first which is A/C.
8) It is a convenient option for husbands on diet to sneak in a couple of sambar idlies or vadas without their wive's knowledge. Hahah;)

More than anything, this place has been consistent when it comes to the taste for decades and never compromised on the quality, however, the size of their dosas have gradually decreased.

KP is a must visit for all southindian food lovers. You will have to try it to believe it.

KP ka nahi khaaya toh kya khaaya!!!

PS: They shut at 10pm and the best time to parcel is before 7.30 pm on Sundays to avoid the rush.

Thank me later;)

Ambience is OK. But food is πŸ‘Œ loved pongal. Nei roast (dosa) is yummy. Loved filter coffee. I love this hotel specially for it's thick chutney. There was a time where used to have daily here πŸ˜‰

Hotel Krishna Prasad also known as "KP" is sowcarpet's gem. Yes what an irony,a gem in a place like sowcarpet. I don't find any reason to not call it a gem. Firstly I would like to appreciate its cleanliness. There's always a huge crowd ,where many people opt for a takeaway as well. And there's never any delay in service as they manage the customers dining in and also at the takeaway counter. Coming to the food ,its one of the finest south Indian restaurant .Idly is always served hot and is soft as well. Sambhar is delightful and the coconut(white) chutney is the "BEST" in town. Pongal is also easily among the best Chennai. Dosas are good but not very good,a little improvement in the dosa is recommended. For me its a must visit place when I'm in sowcarpet. "KP" all the way.

Ahh. The best restaurant in Sowcarpet. Been eating here's food, since I was 4. Amazing Food. ❀ Sambar is amazing too, and is Jain Sambar. But still, its epic! You can get yourself, a Parotta Kurma, if you don't give a damn about your figure. Its the besttttt!

Had been a long time since I had visited dis place. But der is a huge difference from my last visit. KP as it's known in d circles of der regular customers is famous for der sambar and most of der tiffin items. D sambar dey served tasted like stale sambar. Had ordered for ghee roast masala dosa. Ghee tasted in just a single corner of d dosa and the potato masala was just a mouthful. The servers too wer very casual in der behaviour. Coffee was too watery. On d whole was too disappointed bcoz I know KP stands for great south Indian tiffin items. The 3 rating is only for older experience and a superb vada dey served today.

Heard much about this place from a couple of friends... The first time I had food from here was parcelled brought to our office by someone, and it was rather a strong competition to our regular sangeetha saravana bhavan and hotchip. Sunday morning we decided to go and experience it first hand.. 830 am on Sunday morning, some 30-35 bikes parked right outside. The parcel counter reminded me of welcome hotel with a waiting crowd of 30-40 mins. We quickly find two empty chairs, a fellow came and took orders and served us quite quickly. The food (idli, vada, dosai, pongal) was top notch! I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to treat your taste buds.

The food I've grown up eating. Unbeatable South Indian flavours. Chutney here is amazing and can be eaten in kgs. The best part is that the quality and taste have been consistent since ever.
Sandeep Kataria
Hotel Krishna Prasad or kp has anybody living in sowcarpet knows this place as, has the best Sambhar idly by far. Chutney s thick awesome fluffy idlies set dosais to die for and super quick service. They even have a small ac dining hall for family crowd light on d wallet heavy on taste...

Traditional South Indian at quite reasonable prices. Loved the coffee and they have quite tasty doses here ambiance could be better but food is totally worth it man. Go for it if u are near that area and want some authentic South Indian.

The food I've grown up eating. Be it early morning breakfast, evening snack or a family get together.... This is been an all time option. The chutney is simple n can be eaten in kgs. The idly - wada ,pongal and dosa are to must have.

1. Very aged and Old-Fashioned Hotel @ Sowcarpet.

2. They serve Delicious, Tasty->> Breakfast & Tiffins.

3. Chutney is one of the best as well their authentic Dish.

4. Always Crowded, and they have A/C Zone category [@ Upstairs]

5. Over-all Service is Good

6. During Festive season's, It is immensely crowded

7. As well it has a cramped parking space

Taste:4/5
Service:4/5
