Review Ponnusamy Hotel Restaurant - Chennai (Madras)

Good ambient restaurant. Non- veg chittinaud type. Biriyani, Tandoori, Grills, Full-meals, ice cream, Faluda etc are available. Has separate 'take away' counter. Wash room is clean. Staff behaviour is good. High-rise chairs for children provided.

The food is good.. And they seemed to be a little costly.. They have a good menu card but they didn't mention that they put quarter plate price in it. And since we ordered full plate without even letting us know they put soo much of price by them self.. Other than that ambience is good. 8 out of 10 could be given.. Banana leafs are served for food... Food quantity is less tough..

Very near from Vadapalani bus depot. Service was nice. Rates were moderate. Aesthetic environment. Great taste and quality of food. Cards and coupons accepted.

We went there without any expectations for a quick lunch, but it turned out to be an excellent stomach fulfilling experience. The Ponnusamy chicken is excellent which is rich in cashew and mutton sukka was just mouth watering. A must try if you visiting anywhere near Vadapalani. The ambience is modern and the staffs were good. All in all a good restaurant..

Take a meal or briyani after a shopping or show in forum mall.so good as compared to the shops located in food court.Location it has been is so strange.but the ambience they maintaining is good actually.price is also reasonable for the quality and the ambience they providing. Mutton dishes sounds better and good services is better.briyani and meals are tastes as like our home with spices. With a nice background music.simply good ,enjoyed it !!!

This is like my next kitchen since this outlet is just next to my home. So at least a pocket of rasam will be brought as take away once in 3 days. It is just opposite to vadapalani bus depot in the first floor of Rahat plaza. The ambiance is so good and well maintained. The service is also prompt. My favorite is their Rasam which works very well with rice. I say their top dish is their Rasam. Another speciality is in the night 🌃 we can get non veg meals. So anybody would like to have full meal for the dinner it is the right choice. They are so good in their chettinad dishes. Only problem I faced is the fish finger I ll not get the same consistent taste. My last order with them was 1 non veg meals, chicken biryani, mutton biriyani, crab 🦀 lollipop, fish finger, ponnusamy spl chicken dry, nethili fry, egg Brain fry. It was all superb and enjoyed the lunch. Overall it's good choice for Non veg lovers.

Nice place and good food. Had a good time eating here. Since it is a Diwali day there was no rush and the restaurant was free. Also the restrooms are clean and neat. Affordable food at the area.

This area is best for foodies, with Vasantha Bhavan, pandiyas, Saravana Bhavan and more. But Nothing can beat Ponnusamy's quality and taste. The chicken Biryani,Kadai Biryani are really great. Im missing those days and the place. Their Sea food items are also very fresh. Its not spicy at all, Still if you are from north, you can ask them it make it very mild.

Authentic taste of tamil dish , along with Chinese, tandoori is good. I recommend this restaurant for meals during lunch time. Unlimited meals served.

Finger fish is a very tasty. Chicken kothu parrota fulfilled hungry. Children had nice dinner with good taste.

Exorbitant pricing for a minimal quantity. Price does not match with the menu. When asked, they say it's an old menu. Food came super late. Had to remind them twice for each dish. Appam was extremely mediocre.<br/><br/>Not the ponnusamy it used to be. Would definitely NOT recommend this branch of it, atleast.

The staff were very lazy.I ordered a tangidi kebab and a chicken biriyani. He served me the biriyani but he completely forgot to bring the kebab.The biriyani was not good and the service is too bad.All the past fame is gone

Worst ever ponnusamy branch. From 2000, i am regular to ponnusamy, but Vadapalani branch spoil the name & fame of ponnusamy. The worst of all is, if i had walked out without paying the bill. No one is there to notice that too. Tastes very bad. Please avoid.

Worst food i have orderd few days back got a bad smell in shark puttu and briyani also we had called and complaint directly to the hotel his behaviour was very bad not even say single sorry.

One of the best authentic south indian non veg restaurants in my list. Anytime I would say ponnusamy has the best technique to attract our taste buds, be it biryani, meals, Chuka, chops, brain fry or even Chinese this is one of the best. Now they have started grills aswell, still need time to try those. Even they have improved the ambience but the service is bit lagging.

In recent times, this food joint has lost its authenticity . We ordered for a chicken fried rice , chicken soup , grill chicken and a non veg meal.<br/><br/>The fried rice was very blunt and the soup was watery but grill chicken was good and the non veg meal was not great. <br/><br/>It is not worth a visit.

Located opposite to vijaya forum mall..We went to the place around 7pm and it was empty...We ordered chicken Biryani and they took around 15 mins to get it in spite of us being the only customers..The Biryani could have been even more spicy and it lacked the strong flavor of Biryani and tasted more like chicken rice..The only good thing about the Biryani was the chicken which was soft and the Biryani was hot..<br/>Food- 👎 <br/>Ambiance - Good<br/>Service- Poor

They have changed their ambience which is better than their previous one, crab masala is pretty good, biriyani is a disappointment but the gravy was better which came with biriyani, their quality has gone down. Service not much to mention.

This place is suitable for those who prefer chettinad over mugalai. Talking about the dishes, the biriyani is absolutely chettinad styled. It has it's own uniqueness. The side's that is kept for biriyani (i.e) chettinad style gravy is absolutely amazing. And some of the must tries are The American chopsey,ponnuswamy chicken and the bbq. And talking about the ambience, i would give 4 of 5.Suitable for mainly family dining. Overall i would give a 3.5 cause of the unavailability of varieties in dishes.

This place is like heaven if you want some fresh and flavourful veg and non veg south Indian food. I ate their meal along with some shark , korma , mutton , fried fish , daal , Rassam and Sambar. All was just the right taste and the right portion size . No wastage here is tolerated. The servers are really hospitable and check on you regularly. I loved the dessert pyassam too. This is a must for anyone who wants to experience authentic tamil and chettinnad cuisine. Another good thing is that the food in never too oily and doesn't leave you queasy. Don't forget to eat the PAAN in the end to sign off your gourmet experience.

We went to Ponnusamy Hotel at Adyar near  Bus depot for lunch, The food and taste was pathetic, Except the chicken dry fry Rest all waste .... Absolutely no taste and felt like eating sand and clay... My children said in future we should not visit this.. The hospitality and the kind of people at helm at this joint are useless.. They cant take and redress complaints, just listening no no hearing.. So I would request any one who reads this review to avoid PONNUSAMY RESTAURANTS .. I love to dine with finest Chettinad hotels but this proved me this is not so.. After shelling out 900/- we came with disappoitment

After a long time I visited Raahat plaza Ponnusamy on a saturday evening, with my wife, expecting heavy crowd. But the place was totally empty. I was a little nervous to be in that place as the area was huge and we were the only customers there. All the restaurant staff were chatting and occasionally glancing our table. <br/><br/>I kept telling my wife how this place was bustling with people and how difficult it is to get a table. I kept the order simple and got it in my table quick and hot. They have grill and Barbeque, but the machine was not on, so i didnt order fearing stale food.

A typical chettinadu restaurant which was on my wish list. so had been there with DH on one fine day. Ambiance was okayish. As it was a week day, only handful people were there. Nothing  much about the ambiance, average kind. We ordered for non-veg meals, nethili fry, and grill chicken after a long  confusion between  grill chicken and sura puttu. Coming to meals, everything they served is good. Chicken gravy and fish gravy  were must mention.  Nethili fry was good. Disaster of the day was the grill chicken, without having any taste in that.  As we took the issue to the staff, they were courteous enough to replace it. Service was good. Overall, the meals is worth for the price. YUMMY!!!!. Had a good experience.

A typical chettinad restaurant. Chettinad food lovers will love this. The biriyani and the Egg Kothu Parotta are excellent here. Been here more than 100 times.  So many good memories in this restaurant. A must visit for all Biriyani lovers.

Used to be a good restaurant but nowadays it is very worst taste wise and ambience wise the briyani recently had was really bad I really regret eating briyani there I would not recommend anyone to try this restaurant

The worst experience I had ever faced...I had ordered for biriyani and 8 piece crab lollipop .... the chicken pieces in biriyani were as hard as rocks nd he bought nly 4 piece crab lollipop...when askd he said stock was over .... after having lollipop we found tat it was spoiled..whn v askd he said it was previous days lollipop... food isn't good at all..

The worst experience I have had ever... Even at 9.15 all biriyani's are over. Only fried rice are there... That too not upto the standard level... Even the fastfood shop friedrice will be much more better than this hotel... I got a Crab lollypop which costs upto Rs.185 for only four pieces, even it was too oily with some black particles in it which clearly shows the oil was not changed itself... I ordered barbeque chicken which made me to completely hat barbeque chicken in my life... The chicken was too hard and it was literally resembles like an Apsara eraser... That much old the chicken was... The way of entrance to the shop is also too worst... Not even a single sign board was shown to direct the shop after car parking... Completely a worst pakage of experience i got from Ponnuswami Hotel... Hereafter i never even think about this shop itself... Very Thankful for giving us the wonderful experience for coming to your Hotel from Ambattur...

The ambience and service was good, we had biryani, BBQ chicken, finger fish. Biryani tasted ok, chicken and fish was great. The hotel is located inside 'Rahat Plaza' which looks cramped and uninviting.

Once it was a nice place to have delicious food but it have been changed a lot, went here with my friend and had mutton briyani and tandoori chicken, briyani was totally taste less tandoori chicken also tastes bad, we are totally disappointed that day..........

Its tough to find Ponnuswamy from the road and the mall it is situated in is a little shady. The food was good though. We ordered Chicken Curry, Brain Fry, Fish Poriyal, Non Veg Meal, Chicken 65, Veg Schezwan Noodles and Naan. Chicken 65 wasn't good. Too much color. The color stayed on my fingers for a couple of days after. Rest of them was good but not the best I have had.

Ponnusamy hotel is a typical tamil cuisine non veg restaurant.All the items taste good.The biryani has a unique taste.Earlier the interiors was conjusted.But now they have altered the interiors which is very spacious and decent.Still the AC is always low and therefore it is very suffocating.The quantity of all the items are less.The price is moderate.

I have been with my family to Ponnusamy Hotel vadapalani y'day for dinner after 8months. Surprised with the ambience what a change it was good, lot of improvement in the quality and service. Ordered meals with Crab masala, mutton sukka, chicken pepper fry and chicken65. It was good.  Enjoyed.

Ordered a takeaway after 5 years, and it still had the great taste. Especially items like Paya, Idiyappam, and Crab Masala were my favorites. Highly recommended.

Jus back from tonight's dinner. .. Must say the quality has deteriorated a lot. .. Ordered grilled chicken, kadai fry, chicken chettinad masala, nethily fry, Mutton kola urandai, egg appam, Kal Dosa and egg veechu. .. Except fr egg appam and kola urandai everything was very average... Please avoid the grilled chicken there. .. It's the worst. .. Hope quality gets better. ..

Worst attitude and service by most of the waiters , servers and cleaners. I guess there is no manager or supervisor. You can see waiters , cleaners standing in groups and chatting in the corners. They speak so loud that you cannot enjoy the music or can even speak to the person who came with you for dining.<br/>Food quality is still good.<br/>Owners of this restaurant should immediately look into this before word of mouth spreads and ends up in less or no walk in.

Been visiting this restaurant since my childhood and I got to say it has look and feel. I personally still like the food which has still remained the same.

A hotel which I have been going to since my childhood has lost its sheen completely.<br/>As a kid , I have always wanted to visit Ponnusamy with my parents coz the food was mouth watering and to be honest was finger licking good.<br/>But now , I don't find it bearable.<br/>They take like half an hour to serve and the food was gross.<br/>The chicken side dish was too spicy and could only figure out a few small chicken pieces in midst of a bowl full of gravy.<br/>Definitely wouldn't recommend anyone to visit here.

This restaurant has been around for ages. Tucked away inside a shopping complex of sorts - If you're a fan of old Tamil movies you'll notice this location being filmed in a lot of them. Inside the restaurant the old world charm is fading. The patches, cracks and stains in the interiors all scream of the need for a renovation. <br/><br/>As we entered, shameless as I am to accept, I saw a plate of lollipop chicken on one of the tables. It looked delicious and inviting. This being a Chettinad restaurant my friends were a little hesitant,  it took a little convincing but finally I made them agree and we ordered a plate. The lollipop chicken was juicy sweet just as its meant to be and could put some of the specialty Chinese restaurants to shame. For the mains we ordered Chicken Biryanis and eggs half-boiled. The Biryani was one of the best Chettinad Biryani I've had in recent times. The first thing you notice with the Biryani is the quantity. Almost twice the quantity of the other restaurants that have opened up recently. The flavorful rice of the Biryani with that spicy chicken curry and the onion raitha to balance it all off - happiness with every mouthful! The  Eggs half-boiled-not much can go wrong here, got what I expected.<br/><br/>The service was prompt and satisfactory. A meal here should set you back by approx. 200-300 per head. That is pretty reasonable especially considering the quantity of portions served. <br/><br/>Just hope they renovate and work on the ambiance, that will probably get the crowds back here and me with a 5 star rating this time!

This hotel might seem to be a famous one but its actually not up to the mark, either its about the interiors or the way things are organised or presentation or whatever. they do serve tasty chetinad food but the consistency is a big question mark. the inner lobby feels really dim dull and haunted. the spring rolls are really a disaster while the chicken soup might be salty most of the times. the place is always crowded and noisy while its definitely not a hang out spot as its claimed to be. on the whole this place needs a total make over. sigh!

Non veg meals , it's meant for 2 . Though u need to add a non veg dish along as only the gravy is served in the meals no pieces .

This branch of Ponnusamy hotel has been around for a long time. It certainly does not deserve all the bad reviews written here. If you get to visit this place you ll find that there is always some waiting time to get a table. It is almost always crowded during meal time. If it is as bad as the reviews here then why is there so much crowd all the time? It is obviously because people are willing to wait to eat here. As far as ponnusamy is concerned chettinad food is the one to eat. Their biriyani is pretty famous. Their meals too is a favourite among people dining here. (Meals obviously do not contain any chicken or mutton or fish pieces in their respective gravy just like every other place! If you want some meat please order a separate plate of side dish.) All of their crispy fried chettinadu starters are good. Apart from the typical favorite's it is not very advisable to explore food here. The ambience of the place with all that crowd is not great either. My experience with service hasn't been bad so far. They are quick when you order their standards. Over all, its not that bad and OK to visit.

We started with crab lollypops and prawns, which were decent. The waiter recommended the non-veg thali, which would have fish curry, mutton curry, and chicken curry. Sounds great, right? So we wait...and wait...and wait...and then the food arrives. The curries were just as promised, except for a tiny detail: There was no food in them. My non-veg thali had a fish bone masquerading as food. <br/>Horrible place to eat at, wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.
