Review Ambur Star Briyani - Chennai (Madras)

BALAJI Veerasamy
Near Vadapalani temple. If you are searching for non veg restaurant or hotel means, unfortunately you won't get near the temple. The only best option is this Ambur star briyani stall, simple awesome but little expensive and less quantity. I expect more varieties but good. Overall rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

I had kuska here. It was yum done with seeraga Samba rice. I noticed that your air conditioners leak very rarely on the table I guess it’s the weather I’m not sure. If you could fix it that’ll be great. 🖤
Guru Prasath
Mutton briyani here is always my favourite one and the rice with the apt amount of masala is the best thing i would crave anytime. Worth the tummy fill 👌

The food is really good. Especially, Seeraga Samba Biryani. The best biryani of seeraga samba in OMR!! The price is slightly on a higher side. But, definitely worth the money.

This hotel is found near Vadapalani junction and Vadapalani Murugan temple. If you search for non-veg restaurant near junction, this hotel would be best option. The taste of biriyani is super. Good hospitality and well maintenance place.

One of the best biryani I have ever had in the recent months

Located near the vadapalani murugan koil... Though located on the mainroad its pretty hard to locate.... After you cross the vadapalani signal towards kodambakkam its just around 100 meters from that signal on your right... Its pretty crowded so if you look in the right place you can easily make out the location...Parking is roadside and is pretty minimalistic... Its just a normal outlet to seat around 16 ppl... And be ready to dine with strangers as all are cramped in this small place... Can get a bit stuffy and hot in here... If you are looking more for ambiance kindly stay away.. This is not the place for you.. Better have takeaways... The biryani containers are located in the entrance so is the bill and payment section... The process here is that you sit down.. Place your order and wait...First the banana leaf is placed with onion raitha and baigan ki chutney on top... Then a Plate of biryani is bought and emptied on you leaf... People are quick and efficient.. But service for me got a bit late thanks to the confusion created by another customer... Nevertheless the Chicken biryani was served piping hot.. With good pieces of meat with a few bones too... Quantity wise it was average nothing great... But the Taste...OMG was brilliant.. Small grained rice similar to zeeraga samba but i doubt if its the same... Was less on the spicier side but the flavors were Perfect... The meat pieces were soft and tender...Really good... Ordered a Chicken Chukka to go with the biryani.. Typical chicken chukka taste but had some lots of masala and so was a bit on the spicier side.. The chicken pieces were all small sized boneless soft and juicy pieces... Overall this dish was too yummy.... The Onion raita was just perfect onions and a bit of curd wasn't the liquid ones we find in many shops... The Baingan one too was great.. This was a bit watery though... Biryani at 200rs and chicken chukka at 220rs was complete VFM... People looking for different tasty biryanis in chennai you will want to try out this place... Definitely recommended... People who are uncomfortable of dining here can have takeaways for sure and relish the biryani in the comfort of your home....

One of the best biriyani. The person who served us was very polite. Taste is absolutely best as every other Ambur Star Biriyani 1860. Just one drawback is that the dining area is very small and hardly can accomodate around 20 people at a time. Will be little difficult to get a place for dine in.
Samel raj
Food is OK but not as like as real ambur biriyani

Always the Best. The Biriyani taste was awesome. But it's costly. Mutton biriyani was 350 for standard package and 400 for XL Package. Usually crowded for parcel.
Balaji Bala
Mutton briyani taste was absolutely fantastic but the briyani is too much of oily. Mutton briyani XL it comes with 1000ml container it is sufficient for 2 persons. It has 4 medium size of Mutton pieces also sufficient and tender&soft Raitha was good but brinjal gravy smell and taste was bad. Chicken chukka taste was average but Chicken pieces are so hard. Price of Mutton briyani XL is Rs.350.

Shop is not accepting Zomato gold offer, but offer is displaying offer...and there is no responsible answer why they don’t accept offer....

Ghee smell in both chicken and mutton biryani.. Bit oily.. But awesome
Nivetha Krish
I ordered plain briyani and mutton sukka where they taste delicious .with raita and brinjal curry it's awesome and amazing.I dine in your ambur outlet where same taste remains here
Kavitha
Thanks Ambur Briyani team ... you guys really made our day .. we ordered mutton & chicken Briyani.. They serve hot in banana leaf with raita and brinjal curry.. as I posted earlier Briyani is awesome ... meat also well cooked and aroma of rice also mind blowing... Ambience and cleanliness must improve.

If anyone is a big fan of the Ambur Biryani originally served in Ambur, this place can satisfy your taste buds the best. Chicken biryani for the win.
The Luscious Tummy
Best biryani in TamilNadu & one of the well biryani shop in India, they serve the food in banana leave with hot & tasty biryani with some chicken 65, chicken was too tender & juicy. Too good
Ibrahim Mohammed
This was my first time experience in star briyani. The briyani has its unique taste and it gives out a spicy taste after each bite that's the good part in it. Apart from that the raitha and brinjal curry matches with the BRIYANI to the perfect. The only cons which I feel is the quantity, it is way less than what we get from SS Hyderabad (price is lesser than star)

Ordered briyani. Not upto the standard in taste...

mutton Biriyani was better than chicken
chicken 65 was not too solid
less number of pieces in small cubes

biriyani was white. There was no masala. very disappointed.

This doesn't serve with extraordinary taste but they stand with perfect standard on what their ingredients are and what taste and quantity and quality they serve. For Ambur biriyani lovers this is the perfect choice.

what a biryiani there taste individual among others

such a worst biriyani.. there is no spices , they used only red chilly for biriyani. i couldn't feel the taste of biriyani.

Went after the Chicken biryani. Quantitatively speaking the biryani would make your tummy feel full but looked less compared to other places. It was super spicy also the Brinjal gravy. Apart from that the rice and meat was just on par. Wouldn't say it's the best but it was good.
The place was sandwiched between shops so takeaway recommended since parking was a trouble. Coming to the price it was neither expensive nor every penny worth.
MADRAS FOOD JOURNAL
Taste was good. Quantity is sufficient and packaging was good. Delivery was on time. Biriyani was a bit oily. Less mutton pieces. No egg. Chicken 65 is average. Price is reasonable.

They are very friendly in serving.. Tastes good though they are having few dishes and briyani...very small, clean and neat outlet.. Very quick in parcel service.. Parking is difficult there..

In this hotel they mix the chicken with tomato rice and then they supply.
waste of money.
They charge ₹170/- for chicken briyani but no egg in that.
Sukubhai briyani ₹120/- with egg and 5 piece of chicken in alandhur branch.
Harish Rajendran
You can come here only if biriyani in mind... None of the other dishes are recommended... Mutton biriyani would be "ponna taste-u"... Chicken biriyani will meet your expectation... Take away is the best choice!
Vijayan Ganesh
We ordered chicken biryani. Taste is good especially brinjal gravy. Restaurant is not too spacious too narrow. Air conditioning is good. Biryani taste also good.
Suresh Balasubramaniyam
One of the best place to have biriyani. Ambience is quiet small we have to wait to get seats during weekends. But biriyani taste will be worth wait. Must visit ✌🏽
Shiv Menon
Quite small a place , be careful as one might be able to miss the place on the road .

The restaurant has about 12 covers , with a variety of briyanis .

The chicken briyani was delicious that is the rice only but the chicken wasn't well cooked .
Ordered for chicken 65 turns out it was pre cooked and heated in the microwave .

It's quite cheap and service is fast.
Suriya Venkat
I tried their mutton biryani many times. Taste of Biriyani is good.sometimes it will be good, Sometimes it will be tasteless. I feel like eating tomato rice with mutton piece in it.
SE RA
This rating is for staffs only.. they are very polite and serving well... Otherwise ambience is not in the list of okayish... it's just road side restaurant only... Not deserve these much hype honestly... I ordered fish fry OMG 😱 disaster masala marinated well but not cleaned properly blood of fish is giving Very bad smell and taste to tht fish... chicken 65 is not boiled properly masala is good, plain briyani which is consist of chicken chunks... And not at all gooooooooooooooooooood... I strongly won't suggest this place... Briyani taste Seems to be added some essence like aginomoto... Server asked me to try their brinjal curry tht too not up to the okayish level...
Jayanthan Sekar
The Best Biryani I've ever had.. Loved the softness of meat and the brinjal curry especially. But place is too small and not at all suited for dining in.

Asked for a delivery. Their menu has 200 things, but when called they have only 4 things. Request the store/zomato team to get their updated menu.

Awesome briyani.......
Specialy mutton briyani pieces are so soft......
My point view rate was little bit over so my suggestion is reduce the rate .....
Jani Kkr
Mutton biryani good but mutton piece was very less (small 4 pieces) compared to many good Britani shops.. chicken kuska worst with fried rice cooked no taste at all. Chicken lolly pop more coloured but ok

Positives: Awesome food, good hospitality.

Negatives: Ambience, interior seating

Recco to potential customers: Take away best option.. if you still wish to eat there good luck.

I have been to this place for numerous times and the food taste has been consistently good. Full marks for the taste quotient. Awesome traditional Muslim dum biriyani prep'ed with seerakasamba rice. Every biriyani lover must not miss this.

Price is acceptable for the quality and quantity they provide.

Side dish also awesome but quantity can be improved. Esp. C'65. I have tried C'65, chicken fry.. and lollipop all taste good.

With all the positives aside one thing that pisses me time and again is that, the ambience and seating capacity. Strict no for family treats. The space they provide is worst than a startup hotel. Esp. for the brand value and tradition this biriyani offers its high time they expand the seating and interiors.

If that's done this place would get a 5.0 rating from me.

P.S: Biriyani lovers who can't eat without boiled eat ought to skip this place.

God bless! Peace out!!

Suman Thangadurai
Very small place, totally about 20 seats and not a space to move for more than 4 people, take away would be a better option. Coming to taste can't say the pure authentic taste of ambur, but you won't get disappointed. Rice is cooked to perfection. Parking would be a struggle out on the busy time. Cars don't even imagine to park infront of the shop.
Kamalkrules9
This is ne legendary biryani maker which is not known among many. They are pioneer biryani makers on the chennai bangalore highway. The biryani here is made with jeera samba rice and mutton brought from ambur as per the waiter who informed about it. The biryani is served with brinjal, sweet and raitha. Definitely a well planned meal in itself and wont require any side. Really awesome
Gourmet Cavin
Very small outlet. Totally unworthy to dine. Better to takeaway for a good experience.

Chicken briyani - less spicy, the meat was well cooked and tasty

Pepper chicken - excellent.

Lollypop - it was like a road side preparation

Overall the taste is good, but for the price, the quantity provided in starters is less.
Jagadeesh RadhaKrishnan
I think Vadapalani is the first branch in chennai which then emerged to 5 branches as of now. I've fallen in love with Ambur briyani ever since the first time I tried it. The rice makes the briyani so special from its peers. Unlike basmati rice briyani you would never feel the heaviness after you had this briyani. I've never tried original Ambur briyani so I'm unsure about this one. The place is small enough to hold 12-15 foodies at a time.

Thinking to eat Mutton Briyani's with some well mixed masala??? Try Ambur Star Briyani!!! They have an traditional method of cooking with zeeraga samba rice. I like their mutton Briyani's very much. They serve it in a traditional style of banana leaf which is good to eat.

Best Briyani around vadapalani saligramam virugambakkam kknagar !!!
Curse me if it is not true !!!
They should expand the dining area !!!!

This review is about take away.
Order : 2 mutton biryani, 1 chicken biryani and 1 chicken pepper fry

Let's get started. The biryani looked very much like a tomato rice from its appearance but taste wise it was definitely not so. The biryani prep with seeraga samba rice was spicy and tasted really good with the brinjal gravy and raitha. Quantity was more than enough for a person with good appetite.

The chicken biryani had one big piece of chicken while the mutton biryani had 4 to 5 chunks of mutton. The meat was cooked well but I felt the mutton to be a bit harder compared to chicken. There was no big difference in taste I could find between the mutton & chicken variants of biryani's.

The pepper chicken, definitely was the best of the lot had three good sized pieces soaked in the pepper gravy tasted really good. Full marks for this.

Total damage
Chicken biryani - 140 INR
Mutton biryani - 160*2= 320 INR
Pepper chicken - 100 INR
Total - 560 INR

Overall a good biryani exp but would not say it's something best to drool over but definitely worth a try once.

This is one of the places in Chennai which serves Ambur Biryani.Made in Jeera Samba rice, this biryani brings the original taste. The pieces of mutton is tender and cooked properly. The pieces are not over cooked or uncooked but cooked perfectly. The brinjal with the biryani they give is one of the best in town. The smell of spices makes one to crave for more. The Vadapalani branch is put up in a small place and doesn't hold too many people to dine in.Not a good place to go with family for a dine in but with friends it works out and take aways work best in this branch. As the place is too small, can't expect much with the maintenance of the hygiene of the dine area and the packing area but you can count on the kitchen as it is clean and dry.Considering the cost of the biryani ,it is only 20-30 Rs more than the other resataurants which provide them at 100-120 Rs per plate but this place doesn't make people feel much for spending an extra twenty.Overall, this place is for people who love the taste of Ambur biryanis and people who love to have biryanis on Jeera Samba rice.
FOOD-4.5/5
AMBIENCE-3/5
HYGIENE-3/5
SERVICE-3.5/5
COST-3.75/5

OVERALL-:

Ratings Based only on Taste...

Featured in Brilliant biryanis i had no idea that this is the same famous star biryani from Ambur..Atleast a Branch of it...I recently learned from a few friends of mine that they are the same and hence made up my mind to try anyone of their branches...they have total 5 outlets in chennai as of now...Biryani is love to me and i am always ready for a biryani...So last weekend i was in forum with a friend for a movie..after which we planned to hit the place for lunch....

Located near the vadapalani murugan koil...though located on the mainroad its pretty hard to locate....After you cross the vadapalani signal towards kodambakkam its just around 100 meters from that signal on your right...Its pretty crowded so if you look in the right place you can easily make out the location...Parking is roadside and is pretty minimalistic...

Its just a normal outlet to seat around 16 ppl...and be ready to dine with strangers as all are cramped in this small place...can get a bit stuffy and hot in here...If you are looking more for ambiance kindly stay away..this is not the place for you..better have takeaways...The biryani containers are located in the entrance so is the bill and payment section...

The process here is that you sit down..place your order and wait...First the banana leaf is placed with onion raitha and baigan ki chutney on top...then a Plate of biryani is bought and emptied on you leaf...People are quick and efficient..but service for me got a bit late thanks to the confusion created by another customer...

Nevertheless the Chicken biryani was served piping hot..with good pieces of meat with a few bones too...quantity wise it was average nothing great...but the Taste...OMG was brilliant..small grained rice similar to zeeraga samba but i doubt if its the same...was less on the spicier side but the flavors were Perfect...The meat pieces were soft and tender...really good...

Ordered a Chicken Chukka to go with the biryani..Typical chicken chukka taste but had some lots of masala and so was a bit on the spicier side..the chicken pieces were all small sized boneless soft and juicy pieces...Overall this dish was too yummy....

The Onion raita was just perfect onions and a bit of curd wasn the liquidy ones we find in many shops...the Baingan one too was great..this was a bit watery though...

Biryani at 140rs and chicken chukka at 110rs was complete VFM...people looking for different tasty biryanis in chennai you will want to try out this place...Definitely recommended...People who are uncomfortable of dining here can have takeaways for sure and relish the biryani in the comfort of your home....

I have seen a lot of reviews saying the place is too crowded and the staff is not friendly blah blah. Let me get this straight dining in from Star Biryani is a bad idea because the place is really cramped and there is hardly any place to sit inside. The best option is to get a parcel and trust me their Biryani never disappoint. It's aroma, taste and the after taste that lingers on is simply something that has to be experienced first hand. It's totally worth the money you are paying for it.
Pradeep Daniel
There's really not much to tell. You just have go try it for yourself. It's absolutely brilliant. My wife once almost ruined it for me by saying, "this just is rice mixed with a bit of chili powder". Fortunately that isn't true. It's in reality, just rice, mixed with a bit of magic. Mutton or chicken. Even kushka. Really doesn't matter. Magic. Brilliant.

After seeing and hearing many good things bout dis centre i thot and planned to hav biriyani here at some point of time..as i had nothing to eat fr lunch on a christmas day i thot of having biriyani as part of christmas celebs(!).. Casually i reached thr by arnd 2 bt found ppl waiting fr entering into d hall and eat..it was fully crwded and adding fuel to already burning fire was wen i heard both chick and mutt biriyani is over and it ll b back nly after half hr and wat available is kuska..wen i looked into dat vessel even dat was gettin reduced slowly..so i badly wanted to enter and eat..after few ifs and buts got a seat..first thing is dis shop is right exactly opp to d murugan temple road..its over on a platform which connects market and has plenty of shops nearby..bt they hav made their place airconditioned so there is door between seatin area and billing and biriyani counter..another thing is cleaning the table and service..apart frm dis two rest r ok..kuska came and ordered chicken chuka too..all d sides r given after they r kept in d over so dat it ll b hot fr a few seconds..they gave raita and brinjal curry..i usually never taste brinjal curry with biryani bt today tasted it and it gave different taste..u found d quantity to b ok bt nt as good as bismi r rahman..seeraga samba rice plays d key role for d taste..i was happy fr d taste and paid d bill of 210 happily..service needs to pickup a lot otherwise i wud have rated as 4.. 😊

Not worth the price at least for me. Ordered a mutton briyani. Is it a joke???? It had only two small mutton pieces. I don't know whether it's the same for everyone or just my bad luck that day. Definitely not worth the price and hype. Yes... Briyani here is not like other briyanis available all over the city. It's tastes different and okay but not great.
Santhosh Srinivasan
Brilliant biriyanis and curries. Small place with not a pleasing environment. If you are a biriyani lover you can definitely try this place. They have multiple branches also. Mutton biriyani is the best here. The flesh is cooked perfectly. The chicken biriyani tastes good but the chicken is sometimes raw. Other than that it's a pocket friendly restaurant with good food.
DK Vijay Kumar
Very crowdy area, ambience is bad, better parcel, ambur taste is same here.had mutton biryani ,thy served in banana leaf tats gud.yummy taste n aroma too. . Price also okay .quantity is less, brinjal curry and onion raitha is mixing with biryani diff taste . . for tasty biryani v can go but dinning z bad, only parcel service is gud
Arjun Prasath
Crowdy place.....
This place is situated right in the middle of busy market street. Filled with pollution and noise, its definitely not a pleasing atmosphere. On the other hand, the food is well prepared and delicious. It's better to go for take aways.

Amburrr biryani...!!
Tastes gud but ambience is very bad.
recommended to take parcels..

Have been many times to this place...different taste at different times...sometimes it is oily sometimes the rice will be over boiled...okay okay type biryani..!!!

Can visit once...!!! Don't forget it's better to take parcels

If what they serve here is Biryani then I am a peacock typing this out. Anyone who ever classifies this as Biryani needs to eat an actual Biryani. I would happily even pay the person to eat said actual biryani. I ordered one Chicken Biryani and a Mutton Biryani after reading a few reviews online. What came in the delivery box (after paying Rs 40 for delivery charge) can be best described as tomato rice and pieces of chicken and mutton.

Worst place ever!
Dinesh
Today me and my friends had briyani here, first of all it took 15 mins to find a place to park our vehicles and then the hotel was crowded hardly waited so long to get a seat and finally tasted our briyanis, the quantity of the briyani is not sufficient for me and it was oily and spicy but tastes good overall i could prefer u to visit this place for a takeaway than a dine in.....

Vadapalani ambur star biriyani is a tiny road side fast food like restaurant. They dont have a separate kitchen here. They prepare biryani and all other items in a private kitchen outside and serve here.I tried mutton biriyani and chicken 65.The biriyani tasted good. The taste is unique. The chicken 65 too was cooked already and it was heated in a microwave and served hot.Still the chicken 65 was soft and good to eat.The interiors was suffocating and not advisable for dinning.Home delivery is also available.

One of the best Mutton biryanis I have tried in Chennai.. If you are a jeera (small in size) rice biryani person you cannot give this place a miss..

Quick service and very efficient on the pocket..

P.S : Kindly try the fish chukka and mutton biryani which according to me makes the best combo there :)
Sambath Kumar
This place is awesome for take away !
Mutton Biriyani and pepper chicken is recommended.

Chicken biriyani is also good but not as good as mutton.
Gokulakrishnan S
Amazing food is served here. We never planned to have biriyani ,as we were there in Vaniyambadi for a marriage. And during such a auspicious ceremony usually we avoid NV. but due to the hype given by the people who came ,we decided to taste it. Biriyani did not have jumbo pieces like most served here in chennai..we tasted mutton biriyani. The pieces were in normal sizes and the biriyani was not so spicy. Always wanted to go there again 😊

My hunt for briyani s a never ending story. It was my long time plan to taste Briyani in this hotel as it s in brilliant briyani segment. Just executed today.

After finding hotel it took 10min to park my bike. I couldn't enter the hotel , it was over crowded in entrance. Crossed the bill desk in entrance nd went inside. My job isn't over as I came into dine in place. I have waited 15min ti secure a place for me. Ordered mutton briyani. Mutton briyani was served in banana leaf. I like to eat food served in banana leaf. Briyani is made with zeera samba rice. I have already been to 7star briyani which s traditional nd famous in ambur. So I know the home taste of ambur briyani. I am satisfied with the taste in this hotel though it is not very much tastier as 7star briyani in ambur. In chennai I would say this is the best ambur briyani.

Ambience nd place is the thing i want to share about this hotel. It hardly accommodate 12 ppl. very poor place for dine in. I would strongly recommend ppl for take away.

Overall a very good briyani to have it at home only.

Last year I brought one bucket briyani from ambur star briyani my hole family was happy about taste and then I never had briyani from star briyani just recently passed through vadapalani i just saw star biryani and i decided to go there believe me the briyani is so nice must try briyani in chennai

Location. - Bad (No Parking even for Bike)
Food Taste - Excellent (only for briyani)
Ambiance. - Avarage
Price. - Cheap packet Friendly
Service - Avarage

Wonderful taste of briyani :) u will love it, can eat lots wen u r hungry :) side dishes are weak, but mutton briyani and chicken will taste yummy wen its hot. Shoot for d hotel early around 11:30 to enjoy d best

The only let down in this place is their Ambiance so i will recommended to do a take away. No doubt as it is listed in brilliant biryani!

Tasty & lip smacking biryani in seeraga samba rice/Ambur Biryani! Taste was very close to Muslim kalyana biryani (marriage biryani) Mutton was cooked well and biryani was not too spicy nor less it was very settled. Their brinjal gravy & onion raita was good as well. Though it is small place their staff was good & did quick service.

I didn't tried their other dishes and this place is going to be my regular biryani!

Map showing some where in Arcot road it is exactly opposite to Vadapalani Murugan kovil arch.

Cheers :)

I love the briyani here it is tasty.

I see mixed reviews for this., I have always loved the mutton briyani there ., and all my friends too., so try it if you are just fan of briyanis.,

warning: you will fall in love with the mutton briyani if you are not fan of long basmathi rice , ambiance , fan of less spicy.,
Aahir Giri
We went with huge expectations because of the name but it wasn't as great as the other outlets. Place was cramped and the taste of Biriyani was very slightly off. It was still better than the Biriyani we get at various other outlets in the city, so overall not that bad. Pocket friendly too.

Chicken 65 tasted quite good.
Aparna Nair
Very good mutton biriyani and pepper chicken.. Only draw back is lack of space in the customer dining area...if this improvement is done then everything is up to the mark... Will definitely come back for more biriyani !!
Shilsima
Very disappointed with the Biriyani!! I had Chicken 65 too!! No value for money!! As i am a big fan of Biriyani and as i have tasted great Biriyanis in the past, this Biriyani is a complete let down.

Chicken 65 also was not tasting good. Infact,i should say that the one served to me was not at all Chicken 65 !!! That was made in the Microwave oven,i think so. Never wish to go back again.

One of my Favourite Hotel is Ambur Star Briyani(Vadapalani).Mutton and Chicken Briyani taste is always same and awesome.Their speciality is rice Quality and masala properly mixed in the briyani.Foodies you also try thier Chicken Fry.On sundays Afternoon lot of crowds. You can go at 12 to 12.30 PM itself otherwise you will miss it..
Geetha
I am an ardent fan for those spiced up masala rice... That which s hailed d magnificent BIRIYANIS.... N d star biriyani in ambur keeps to d expectations.... D vadapalani outlet s sure for a let down at time.... Foodies who ve tasted it are for sure to side me...

Biriyani was good... Always go for the take away option as the hotel is v small... Ambience s not good....
