Loved the food. We tried many things on the menu and loved them all. Who knew we would love Russian cuisine this much.

The food is great but the service is a little slow. The ambience is also pleasant. Do try the Chicken Stroganoff!

A cozy and a very private place to have confidential conversations, business meets. Food was very much Russian and they serve descent variety cocktails and mock tails.

Nice place for people who want to try different cusine. I see people complaining about raw fish, what do you expect in a Russian dish? Very friendly staff, if you ask, they help with selecting the item. It was a good experience.

One of the excellent place to have Russian food here in Chennai!! The place is calm and good. The restaurant is so good.

Good afternoon. Russian restaurant in Chennai at the cultural center is a special place. the first thing I want to pay tribute to a design space. very dignified, expensive and interesting. that somewhere between a cafe on the French Riviera and restaurants in Monaco. second, it is of course a large selection of Russian dishes. that can give joy to the heart, not only Slavonic soul and a lot of foreigners who slices of sharp, indium kitchen. third is the work of the staff and the responsiveness of the chef and restaurant manager.

Watched the Russia - Croatia quarter finals and the crowd and ambience and enthusiasm was mind blowing ....

I was looking forward to go to this restaurant for a long time and then I finally did on 13.03.2017. The ambiance and the set-up was too good. Unfortunately, as soon I walked in to the restaurant at 10:30PM, I get a very disgusted look from the guy at the counter and his first question in an arrogant tone was, "I need to check with Chef whether there is food, Ok!, Its almost 11:00PM" (This happened exactly at 10:35PM and the online info reads that the restaurant is open till 11:00PM)........All my expectations were shattered and this was the most bitter experience ever. The guy did not ask for a glass of water neither did he ask us to sit and to top it off he was extremely rude. I kept my cool and immediately left the restaurant as this is not the type of Hospitality you expect from such a restaurant. I hope the management will urgently take up this matter and employ some educated staff who can speak well and delight the customer, instead of making us feel that we have committed a sin by planning to dine at Winter Palace....

Wonderful service and delicious food. Definitely a place to chill out and relish the moments. This place has the magic of creating a lasting memory.

One of the best restaurants in Chennai for ethnic foods and they serve truly authentic Soviet cuisine. Chef Sergey is awesome

Its a Russian origin food that people really like to have, especially for people who likes to have non veg, like pork, beef, fish, & russian traditional beer called kvass, i really recommend people who eats non veg to have a real test of meat.

Amazing ambience and amazing food.

Visited Winter Palace immediately after seeing tempting Images of BBQ's posted in the page, but highly disappointed as they serve BBQ only on weekends, next when you feel so hungry or when you are in a hurry to have your food, this is not the place to prefer since they take minimum 30minutes for every order. Other than that its totally a difference experience being here & my sincere advise to Tamil People before being coming here throw away your general food behaviour & routine taste, & check with the barrer the food which you are ordering is full cooked or half baked or RAW, to ensure better tasting experience.

Winter Palace is the perfect place to watch World Cup Games 2018 (Vanakamp WorldCup!) It is the only place in Chennai where you can enjoy authentic and genuine experience of Russian hospitality and fairytale environment of the first World Cup in Russia. The games are projected on a big screens on the terrace and inside the Restaurant. Right at the entrance you are greeted by Zabivaka (world cup mascot) and you and you friend can make selfies with him. After that you are welcomed by Olga C. (famous surfer) who takes your predictions for the game happening this day. You can also meet Olga K. the heart and the spirit of Vanakamp WorldCup 2018! Olga C. is very diligently maintaining statistics of all the games. Both Olgas dressed in elegant Russian football uniforms and painted in the colours of the Russian flag make your heart beating faster and faster! All customers and guests give their predictions and if you are lucky you get a prize and a discount at the restaurant (I had two correct predictions and am very happy with my souvenirs). During the games you feel yourself like you are at the stadium in Russia. All fans from different countries are very friendly and cheer all together for their teams and celebrate goals and victories. Traditional Russian food and amazing ambience transport your from Chennai to the heart of Russia the host of the World Cup. What I liked in Winter Palace is a wide spectrum of Russian cuisine. You can taste traditional borsch, pelmeni (Russian dumplings), fish under fur (seledka pod shuboi), cold vegetable soup (Krasnodar), pancakes (bliny), etc. At the same time if you want to get some vegetable and light meal you can enjoy aubergine with nuts salad, healthy grilled vegetable, Moscow salad and many other options. I look forward to the next big game Russia vs Spain on 1st of July!

Good Ambience and Authentic Russian Food.. Fits my pallette.. Reasonable pricing. Tried Plov Chiken (I can still feel it's refreshing finesse nd flavoe) Chicken Stroganoff (subtle nd I think it's the dainty sauce that adds flair to the chicken) nd the famous Napoleon Cake (I don't hv to mebtion, it talks for itself).. Will come back again with more people!!

The overall experience was not up to what we expected....the place could have been more cleaner. I felt that the food served was not fresh. According to the menu for the mushroom cocotte they should serve bread but we were served with hard buns which couldnā€™t eat. The cheese balls was fine but could have been better.

Was here last week after enough permutations and combinations for choosing a restaurant. We finally decided on this place after reading reviews and as a matter of fact something that actually prompted us was the Dineout offer which was buy one dish and get other free. <br/><br/>Itā€™s located inside the Russian embassy, so finding the place is never going to be a problem, just that only cars are allowed inside and bikes have to be parked outside. Atleast to the looks of it that was what I assumed.<br/><br/>It looks very decent from the outside, luxury written all over it with the colours and lightingā€™s giving it a rich feel. It got us excited to try the food and it was a long time since I had something different from the normal South Indian food. This place offers continental and Russian cuisine. The ambience was very pleasing, even Though it looks like a old place that was newly renovated, it still holds its charm. It was clean, soothing music and welcoming staffs are all positives. All these increased the appetite wanting to taste the food immediately.<br/><br/>For soups we wanted the beef borscht, which unfortunately wasnā€™t unavailable and ended up having the Thai coconut with prawns costing 230ā‚¹. It was amazing, it was finger licking good, the prawns were very well cooked and the soup was mild but tasted excellent. We even went to the extent of asking for more, but since it was chargeable we unfortunately had to control ourselves. This was an excellent start to our dinner night that started with a bang.<br/><br/>For starters we ordered the calamari with onion rings costing 360ā‚¹. To be honest, the onion rings were simply delicious, probably the best I had in chennai. The batter was very light with enough spices that wasnā€™t overdoing and it felt completely fresh and again we enjoyed it with the chilli garlic sauce. However the calamari was a deal crasher. It was rubbery as if it was cooked immediately after taking it from the freezer. It tasted good but the rubbery feel made us not like the dish. Having understood the concern they offered us fresh calamari but again it tasted good but felt rubbery. I wouldnā€™t call it a disaster but not my cup of tea. We had to return it and our appetiser dream was a wash out.<br/><br/>And for mains we ordered the beef stake 550ā‚¹ and chicken al a kieu costing 560. It was supposed to be their best dishes as suggested by the waiter and even after our bad start we still were positive and confident with the mains.<br/><br/>And it turned out to be a disappointment once again. The stake wasnā€™t cooked to perfection since at most places I had dined in before the juices simply ooze out and with the mashed potatoes and stake sauce itā€™s majestic. Here it was dry and lacked flavours. The insides of the stake still needed cooking and the outside portion lacked flavours. Stakes generally have a resting period after they get cooked for the juices to set in. But the one we had wasnā€™t to be.<br/><br/><br/>The chicken which looked like a big potato has butter pouring out when cut into pieces but again lacked flavours and was bland. The sauce they served had mushrooms that were rubbery as if it was frozen before dropping it in the sauce. I knew the food was going to be less spicy, but lacking flavours and with no perfection is not ideal especially for a place like this. <br/><br/>I explained them the situation to which they accepted my point of view and offered to cancel the calamari dish which we didnā€™t even eat and returned except for the onion rings that tasted amazing. <br/><br/>The service is slow, so be prepared. The waiters offer the best to choose the dishes and take care of you throughout. Will I go back again? May be not.

I absolutely loved this place. Very polite service, extremely good food and very affordable prices. My only issue was that it needs a cleaner washroom. Other than that I really loved this place.

My friend had insisted me long time to visit this place since she was in Russia was 6 years. She desperately wanted to sneek this restuarant. Ambience and location wise it's posh. Ambience is cozy as expected. Coming back to food. We have ordered veg soup along with 'fish and fur ' and chicken krilishnki. we waited for the food. We had veg borscht soup which was so bad the smell and quantity wise. Fish and fur was again bad smell like live fish smell which was not cooked properly then chicken krilishnki was cooked properly but they have added a sauce which i don't even like it. They aint asked me what type of sauce i prefer. We were super disappointed because it's saturday evening with no crowd or vibe and ended up in bad food. How does it feel ? So , we have ordered dessert which is Napolean dessert , again it's hard syrup and cream taste quality was poor. Spoke with their manager and came to know chef is not an russian ,he is an indian chef trained by russian. Menu has been changed to indian style food because lot of people opt of indian food . This restaurant run by an agent and his job to help people to study mbbs in russia. He was successfull in his business so he initiated this food business in chennai with russian style. I would prefer if couple opting for this place means just go there take pictures and order virgin mojito. One more important point, bike has to park outside and car can park inside which was too bad.

This place has very courteous staff who from the get go help you with deciding what to eat. The interiors are very cosy and well done.<br/><br/>Do not go here expecting anything overly spicy / tangy. They serve very mild food with minimal spices which seem to be very authentic.<br/><br/>The desserts were the highlight of our experience. We tried the napoleon cake and the nut biscuit. But we were a considerably large group, else yo may feel overpowered by the sweetness.

Ppl are not aware of this place <br/>Russian style food is served <br/>Indians usually tak the hot soups<br/>But they serve cold <br/>Very new to taste <br/>Cheese cake <br/>Nd banana šŸŒ flavoured cake was really Gud <br/>Gud šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘Œ<br/>Beet root was added to chicken soup šŸ„£ <br/>Was literally not bad as I explain <br/>It was nice <br/>Indians can adopt the food style šŸ‘<br/>But red caviar was awful to taste <br/>Few feel it lik tis <br/>Gud service <br/>Perfect ambience šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘ā¤ļø

Cosy and Comfy spot to hang. Had ordered Chicken ala Kiev and Tender Chicken BBQ. Tender Chicken was on dart, Best BBQ chicken I had for sometime. Staff were friendly and quite suggestive on what to eat based on the order. People who are prone to spicy Indian cuisine may find the food a little bland. Good Food , would definitely need the recipe for Tender Chicken šŸ˜‰<br/>!!!

I had khachapuri, Russian nut biscuit, seniki, blini veg, fish and fur salad and borscht soup. Everything was tasty but people who want spicy food should not visit this place. I loved it. The ambience and staff were great. Food was new and I loved everything except the Russian nut biscuit which was extremely sweet.. too sweet to eat. Rest of the meal is a must try.
Pranav Karnik
Honestly you probably might not be able to locate it easily but is a good place to go. The decor is done very nicely and will give you a good feel. We tried Chicken Quesadillas and the Russian nut biscuits. The quality was good. We did not have enough time, so ended up trying these two dishes. Would love to try more, maybe next time. Till then, make a note, this is a highly recommended restaurant because of its cuisine, ambience and the overall setup. Do let me know if it didn't live upto your expectations.

Wonderful place. Great Ambiance. Authentic Russian cuisine.<br/>Ordered Oliver salad and was not disappointed. Wonderful food.<br/>Well appointed dining hall and separate cafe outside.<br/>Service was excellent and the order taker knew what he was suggesting us and suggested us the best food. In one single word, VFM and would visit again :)

Russia is famous for many things. But little we know about its taste in food. And thatā€™s the reason Russia opened ā€œWinter Palaceā€, a Russian cuisine restaurant at its Cultural Center in Chennai. And folks from Detroit Food Safari gave it a try to tell you guys what to expect from that place.
Harini
The overall look and ambience of the restaurant is good. Since it is located inside the Russian Embassy, you can expect some security and restrictions here.<br/><br/>People who love the desi food and who are trying the Russian cuisine for the first time, will not like the food here. Almost all the items ordered are of cheese included and it is a bit costly. No Regular water is available and all you have to do is to buy a water bottle which is of additional cost. The Napoleon cake is nothing special and it only contains a waffle which is not worth for the price.

An authentic Russian Cuisine. If you wanna try rich Russian food, this might be it! The decors add up to the beauty of the place. Quite an expensive restaurant. The must try is their But Biscuits which are crispy on the outside and filled with Rich creamy caramel inside! Such a blessing, I say! We were completely dissapointed with the Seafood Pasta. Completely raw and the smelled really raw. Overall an okay experience.

Good menu. <br/>Good food. <br/>Food is cooked properly. <br/>Taste is not up to mark. <br/>The combos were exciting. <br/>The place was a silent one. <br/>Can taste Russian foods better.
DENİZ GƜLGƖR
It was such a disappointment. We received our beer warm and after telling them many times that its not cold enough to drink they finally cancelled that. After ,we received our meals and all were cold. Hope it wasnt on purpose but we really didnt enjoy anything. They also need to make skme changes in the restaurant, especially do sth for the toilet. Everything looks old.
Amanda Joseph
Such a cosy little place ! The cafe has indoor and outdoor seating. Ordered the traditional Russian Salad and Chicken Quesadillas. Finished off with a cup of green tea. A very relaxing atmosphere and a great place to unwind.
Lalith
Go try out some exotic Russian food in a peaceful ambience. All the food mentioned in the menu is purely of Russian and French cuisine dishes. <br/>Take your love for an eve dinner. <br/>What more than this is required.

Ambience is lovely.<br/>Ideal for those who wanna try different food.<br/>We found few dishes really good and few worse.<br/>Overall could experiment it :p

Good atmosphere and decor. Service was mediocre, and did not feel very professional, but friendly staff. I had minced beef, which did not taste too fresh. My friend had potato zrazy, bit bland, but not bad tasting. Her food and my food were served quite far apart, not such a nice experience. We also had Tom yum soup, not very authentic. Overall was good to try it as I always go past the place, but not our cup of tea.
Joseph Varghese
Very good ambience , tasty food . It's a nice quite place with just the right atmosphere to make you feel comfortable. If your a steak lover and a beef liver trust me this is your place . amazing deserts as well
Umesh Kumar
One of the place which was staying in my bookmark for a long time and visited one day. Ambience is fine, people who work were polite, food is just fine and I personally felt there wasnā€™t anything as wow with the taste. Fish Kolobok was raw and the taste of frozen fish was literally felt. There were 3 other item which we ordered those were all just okay. Overall, the place is just okay for the ambience.
Dhyan
The only place in town that serves Russian cuisine! And, they are pretty good! The ambience is pretty calm and gives a sense home and the paintings and decor give a sense of the 70s/80s look and feel.Ā <br/>The food and the drinks were really good and were worth the money! The pricing is nominal for the portions that are served.Ā <br/>The dishes I tried were -Ā <br/>> Cheese Koblok - really simple dish ; your normal cheese balls but, here stuffed inside baby potatoes and then deep fried.Ā <br/>> Veg. Cutlet - different from the cutler you'd have known, and is a really good choice of starter if you're looking forward to a heavy meal.<br/>> Veg Ghoulash - large portions of mixed vegetable stew cooked in an amazing gravy served with a portion of cold salad and rice<br/>> Potato Zrazy - an amazing dish; the deep fried potatoes are stuffed with mushrooms and some gravy. It is served with cold salad and fried rice cooked with ground pepper!Ā <br/><br/>> For dessert, The Napoleon Cake - a multi layered pastry dish, with creamy goodness oozing from inside! *MUST TRY*<br/>Hope you enjoy this place as much as I did!Ā <br/><br/>Cheers,<br/>Dhyan! šŸ˜

Wonderful ambience<br/>Revamped menu covering a wide spread of veg and non veg options<br/>Serving beef and pork as well, which is a welcome change and deviation from our usual selectively non veg restaurants.<br/>Overall very Tasty food<br/>I can see they have digressed from the pure Russian cuisine and infused a bit of European as well, which is a GOOD THING, given our Indian taste palate and need for veg options as well<br/><br/>Could have played some very soft instrumental music in the background , that would have offset the loud discussion held by one of the coordinators, who was sitting near the billing till.<br/>Apart from that one glitch , I found the place impeccable with scrumptious food.<br/><br/>Must visit !!<br/>

On my recent visit to Chennai, found this hidden gem inside the Russian Cultural Centre. The food is mostly Russian here along with some dishes from Ukraine, Georgia, Uzbekistan etc. I ordered a Beef Borscht, Mushroom and Potato Vareniki and a Beef Stroganoff. The food was authentic and reasonably priced. <br/>The Beef Borscht was flavourful with lots of vegetables, generous portion of meat and topped with smetana. The Vareniki was excellent as well. The Beef Stroganoff was accompanied with vegetables and mashed potato - though the meat was little towards the stiffer side was tasted fantastic.<br/>The restaurant has Russian decor and interiors. The place is named the after the Winter Palace also called The Hermitage in Saint Petersburg. If you are in Chennai and looking to try out a cuisine which is not much popular, do visit this place.
Aaron Tan
Had the beef steak and roast chicken. Tasted great, came with delicious potatoes. Great service too. I was sceptical about trying other places in Chennai for "western food", I made the right decision coming here. Will come back.
Javid Z
This restaurant will be my favourite anytime for its ambience. They serve a good variety of russian cuisine. The starters were really good, though i do not remember the name of the dishes exactly. The Napolean pastry was suggested by many people and it was really delicious. They also have an outdoor seating arrangement which is really cool. The taste and quality of the food is really good and even pricing is reasonable.
Sivakumar ELT
Great Ambience and located in my favourite place. The staff are really friendly and extraordinary.<br/>I always choose Veg Goulash with Butter Rice and mashed potato, the best option for the vegetarians.<br/>The only issue I have over there is the tea varieties because there are no varieties available which are mentioned on the menu.Ā <br/>I was disappointed when they discontinued the Mors, liked it!<br/>The Environment is blissful and lovely!<br/>Many times I have conducted classes to Russian nationals here.Ā <br/>Most important part whom I have to mention is Lisa(The dog) who is very friendly and cute. Remind me of the days with my dog.<br/>Even at the noon, the outdoor seating is pleasant and comfortable.Ā <br/>Their Virgin Mojito is really perfect when compared to other places.Ā <br/>And for people who like to have alcohol drinks with a nominal cost and a lovely experience, this is your place. For people who are fond of Non-vegetarian food, they have lots of options to choose from.
Thomas Tom
Food was not even worth a single penny!! It was absolutely tasteless. Ambience was good though, service was poor. Not much to look forward to.

Russia, worldā€™s largest country known for its extreme climatic conditions and abundant national traditions, has a distinctive and unique cuisine. Russian cuisine isnā€™t well known across the globe. Its culinary technique is actually known to reflect its often harsh climatic conditions.<br/><br/>Winter Palace, a fascinating fine dining restaurant, is located inside the premises of Russian Cultural Centre at Chennai. It is said to be the first formal Russian restaurant in the country.<br/><br/>The place has an outdoor seating with live screening to satiate the appetite of FIFA lovers (P.S.: Late review!) and a beautiful blue decor interior seating with paintings on the wall and ceilings thatā€™s something quite unique and gives us a feel that it are actually dining inside some palace rather than a restaurant!<br/><br/>Traditional and festive Russian Salad a.k.a Salad a la Rus had grilled chicken fillets, and boiled vegetables held together by Chefā€™s special silky mayonnaise. Itā€™s quite a different compared to the routine salads that we come across most often.<br/><br/>What followed it was a colourful array of dishes on the table. Fish in Fur is a traditional Russian food that has spicy cured fish stuffed with layers of vegetables, pre-dominantly beetroot, and other dressing. It was little plain to my taste buds. I donā€™t have beef and so I gave Beef stroganoff with buttered rice a miss!<br/><br/>Chicken a la Kiev, oven baked chicken filled with butter and served with mixed vegetables, went remarkably well with the baked rice - cheese dip. Chicken was seamlessly prepared with a crunchy outer layer.<br/><br/>King Fish BBQ had marinated pieces of King Fish with steamed rice accompanied by a delicious dip. It was pretty good.<br/><br/>For main course, we had Seafood pasta and Khachapuri. Pasta was pretty good in taste with an obviously strong flavour of pesto. Regardless, I had no complaints and it was definitely a good start.Ā <br/><br/>Khachapuri is basically a Russian equivalent to the Italian Pizza! It had a cheesy dough of crust and was totally different (in a good sense) compared to the usual pizzas that I had seen thus far. It was pleasantly good.<br/><br/>Quickly moving on to the desserts part, we had Russian nut biscuits a.k.a Oreshki, which literally means walnut shaped cookie. It was crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside.<br/><br/>If you are interesting to try and enjoy some authentic, indigenous flavours of a new cuisine, give this place a try. You are sure to be amazed and delighted too!<br/><br/>My Rating: 4/5<br/><br/>Happy Eating :)

If you're one of those people who live by "naangalum sothuku equal ah uppu pottu sapadra aalu thanda" this is not the right place for you. To understand where this cuisine and its roots evolve from, imagine what could be harvested in a country where the land is frozen for over 8 months almost every alternate years. This is the culinary opposite to India when it comes to food and spices. Russia, though huge in size predominantly occupies parts of northern hemisphere and receives way too much snowfall that they could handle. Fun fact, India has been buying Russian aircraft called tuplov for ocean surveillance in the Indian ocean, guess what, there's no air conditioning in the cabin of that aircraft!<br/>Their cuisine predominantly consists of animal protein, diary and very few seasonal vegetables and negligible grains that's either imported or grown rarely. Potatoes are one of the commonly known and seen tubers and can be seen almost everywhere, from their pancakes to Vodka! So that's why Russian Vodka is so famous and familiar because that's the only thing they could cultivate and they gave the world this wonderful spirit.<br/>Spices - Sugar, salt. That's it. There's cheese so if you want, that could count as a spice as well.<br/>About the restaurant- this is located inside the Russian consulate in Chennai. Russia being the host for FIFA this year there were signs of celebrations. The ambiance is pretty vintage Russian. The ones that you could see from the movies Munich and such. Elaborate sofas lined with white and solid colour upholstery makes the place classy. Walls are painted blue shade, I totally felt the ambiance the moment I stepped inside.<br/>Food - We were served a couple of vegetarian dishes. Being an all veggie table it was the only option. To start off was the Aubergine rolls. Slender slices of eggplant that's filled with walnuts and cream with a cilantro to fill off the gap. A must try.<br/>The mushroom cocotte served with plain toasted bread was a relish as well. Mushrooms were baked withc aramelised onions and cheese lacked a bit of salt but nevertheless good! This was the tipping point, we couldn't handle the food sans spice. Their potato verenikky, or as I'd describe a potato dumplings, the one you forgot to add salt or spices took it to the ultimatum. We helped ourselves with a good drizzle of salt and pepper alongside the cream served. A dish well done sans any flavours. A veg cutlet served with the classic rice serving was a bit deceptive. Mashed potatoes that was batter fried to a cutlet again with tiny salt and no spice took a toll on our buds. The texture of food was fresh and inviting. Rice was the spiciest of all that enhanced the natural sweetness in carrots and rice. Served alongside blanched veggies did make it feel a bit India used yet a wonderful serve.<br/>For those who like the wheat dosa, try the blin. A wheat based dough that wraps around mushrooms and cheese or meat. The vegetarian came with a standard spice dead creamy sauce inside. But if you're lucky try out their meat variants as well.<br/>Off from the main course we jumped rather happily into the desserts with anticipation. Their bakes such as the karchapuri is a weird imitation of a pizza, sans salt ofc. The Napoleon cake is a killer if the lot, the Biscotti finish to replace the sponge cake was a bit of a shock, yet a nice twist. Though not a twist I like yet one I appreciate.<br/>Service was pretty dead that afternoon. I hope it could be sorted and worked out soon enough.<br/><br/>Food - 4/5<br/>Ambiance - 3.5/5<br/>Service - 2.5/5<br/>
BorderLine Foodaholic
It's a Russian themed restaurant .<br/>The ambience was very cute going in theme with the winter palace blue and white. But the amosity of it ends there.<br/>They didn't have any Russian food on thernu other than one item .<br/>Not sure if it was to cater to the Indian crowd but I was excited to try some Russian food and hence was disappointed.<br/>
Swar Grover
Courteous service .One extra mark for that only .The food is ordinary atleast on the vegetarian side .They have customised Russian dishes to Indian pallete. Milk tea was the star though .One of the best teas i have had .Ambience is nice .Should visit once.

I must admit, penning a review for this restaurant is no easy task. Winter Palace situated as part of the Russian Consulate in Alwarpet is Chennai's first ever restaurant serving Russian cuisine. Chennai has touched the borders of different European cuisines but Russian is absolutely a first and quite an audacious choice. With these kind of diverse cuisines, it's just about whether you like it or don't find favour to it and for me it was bordering around a ball park average figure.<br/><br/>I found some of the dishes to be pretty good and some just didn't suit my style as it felt too off for my taste. Russian cuisine is amazingly bland with very less salt and spices and unless you get accustomed to this kind of food, it won't be easy for you to like it. Added factor being vegetarian, it adds to the problem. With these issues being already prevalent, my end experience was kind of decent.<br/><br/>In the vegetarian section, you find majority items being done up with potatoes/mushrooms. They had an aubergine rolls which were really nice stuffed with walnuts and cream. The soup was more like a cold fruit salad and didn't really sparkle my taste buds. The zucchini veg cutlet felt like consuming an omelette and was rather distinct on taste. A momo like dish with steamed potatoes were rather decent nut however I did find it hard to like as there was hardly any spice. The potato cutlets as well as the bread with a mushroom cheesy gravy were quite good.<br/><br/>In the main course side, the pizza called as the 'Khachapuri' felt a little flat for me as it didn't possess the masala element to draw me in. I needed to slather flakes and pepper to get the spice content. The pesto pasta was one of my favourite items. It had very strong hard hitting flavour of pesto and came infused with the right blend of cream.<br/><br/>In the dessert section, I absolutely adored the Napolean cake. Coming with a biscuit texture with buttery cream flowing from all directions and sprayed with chocolate sauce was as drool worthy as it got.<br/><br/>The rates seem par for the course. The service was amiable but the time taken for dishes to reach our tables was a little too longer than expected. Having never tried Russian cuisine before, it would be easy to complain and not fair on my part. I guess you need to have am acquired taste and get used to it before being sure whether you will lap it up. More than anything it was a learning experience and it's always nice to try varied and completely different cuisines. I wouldn't mind coming here again just for the brilliant cake and also to maybe try a wee bit more of their potato based stuff. If you're the one who likes exploring, you should surely check out Winter Palace.

Winter PalaceĀ <br/>Have I ever had Russian food? Never, that why I went to this place to try out Russian food. This place is located at Alwarpet in a Russian cultural centre. This has been there or quite some time but I recently noticed it. We can eat both outside and inside. Outside it s more natural with the environment and you will be able to see live streaming of football world cup. We went for lunch and had it inside because it was very hot outside. To talk about the ambiance of the place, it had a lot of paintings on the ceilings. The place looks very calm and peaceful, a small noise can disturb the whole place. It gives a royal fell when you enter the place. The tables and chairs look like they are fit for only rich people. The ambiance is really good, itā€™s a Russian dine. We tired out a few dishes over here.<br/><br/>Aubergine Rolls- We had this for starters, it is basically tomatoes, cream and walnut wrapped in very thin brinjal slice with soya sauce. It was really good! When you put it in your mouth you get a small crunchy feeling when you bite the walnut. The dish was presented in a very neat manner with coriander in every roll. I felt like it was very fresh.<br/><br/>Ā Ā <br/>Borscht Chicken Soup with Bread- This is a typical dish, they generally accompany it with bread. The soup was red with a lot of veggies, it had carrot, tomatoes, onion and beetroot in it. The base was chicken stalk. To finish it off, it had a spoon of thick curd on top. The soup was fine, it was a different taste. I put the soup on the bread and ate it. It was fine.<br/><br/>Ā <br/>Chicken Al A Kieu- Moving on the main course, this was the first dish I had. This one had a chicken breast cooked well. It was in golden brown colour. Along with it there was mushroom[creamy type],Ā  cut potatoes and salad. It was looking very cool. The moment you cut the chicken breast, yellowish liquid started coming out! But later I realised that it was butter that got melted. The salad and potatoes were fine. The chicken was very juicy due to the butter inside. I liked it.<br/><br/>Ā <br/>Potato Zrazy- This is like a group of dishes together, there was sandwich type dish, vegetable rice, salad and Mayo. The main dish had stuffed mushrooms inside, it was good. I loved the rice a lot, it had carrots, onion, bell peppers, cucumbers and peas. It was very good. I liked it a lot.Ā <br/><br/>Banana Splits- This is an ice cream which had 3 flavours- vanilla, strawberry and pista. It had a banana cut vertically and placed on both the sides. There was also cashew candy all over the ice cream. It was topped with chocolate sauce. It was very good. I loved it.<br/><br/>Ā <br/>Nuts- They just call it nuts, itā€™s a typical Russian dessert. Its like a small hard ball. When I bit it, it could taste almonds and cardamom flavour in it. It was fine. Ā <br/><br/>Overall, I loved the place. This is an ideal place for couples, if you looking for a date this is best place to go! This is something new in Chennai, if you want to try something different from the regular cuisines, do check It out. I would rate it 4/5.

Having never tried Russian cuisine I went here with an open mind. Situated inside the Russian cultural center, this place has indoor and outdoor seating available. The starters were fine. We had something similar to momos (in the look and taste). The main course too was ok.<br/>Everything was fine until a waiter came to our table and recommended us a "grilled fish" main course as it was the chef's special that day. We denied the request but he kept insisting us on trying it. That was the biggest mistake we did. The fish was bland and tasteless. It was almost cold when we started eating it. There was no one around to even call and complain about it. We hardly had a few mouths of it until we got so disgusted with the taste. Finally when a staff came enquiring about it we gave our feedback on it. Because of this our desserts were on the house!

Food is terrible. Blinis seems like salmon wrapped in dosa. Staff doesn't care about the customers. When we went there was nobody except us. Not a well maintained Restaurant.

What strikes you most as you enter the restaurant is the pleasant ambiance. Beautiful shades of blue and white enhanced by artwork and a full length mirror is very attractive. We ordered chicken blini, honey blini, cheese balls and cappuccino. The chicken blini tasted really good. Other dishes were just OK. Will visit again to try other good dishes suggested by zomato reviews. Tried Chicken Stroganoff recently. Tasted good.

The decor of the place perfectly complements the name of the restaurant. True to the Russian culture of castles and colourful minarets, this place is done in winter colours of ice blue and white. Arched huge windows, white wall decors with beautiful trimmings further accentuate the look of the place fitting of that being inside a castle. The furniture is done in wood, with seats made of white and blue fabric and the entry to this place is also illustrated in creeper like patterns on the wall on the facade.<br/><br/>Cocooned inside the Russian Cultural Centre in Alwarpet, the restaurant has both an outside sitting and an indoor. The outside porch is very different and has a hack like appearance and there is no marriage between both the premises. May be the owners wanted it that way. <br/><br/>I was there on a weekday and was surprised to see not even a single soul around for lunch time. Of course, the fact that it is not located in a office hub might be one reason but it is a little disheartening to not have a single person around while ou off to dine. <br/><br/>So much then.. lets move to food...i ordered for a mushroom blini, pelmeni and banana strudel with nuts. Though Russian food is mostly meet based with a lot of consumption of beef and pork, I steered away from them because frankly I did not understand a lot of it from the menu and was not very confident of trying it on my very first visit. But they do have an extensive menu consisting of salmons, salo, chicken, koloboks, variety of soups and salads too and you will be spoilt for choices<br/><br/>My mushroom blini came in a white plate with some sour cream. It looks just like the Bengali peethas (if you know what i mean) or rolled over rajasthani malpua. Stuffed with mushrooms, the pancake was sweet and the stuffing salty which when consumed with the sour cream made for a curious combination, one I hadnā€™t had before. <br/><br/>The pelmini which is like the traditional dumplings, tasted like one too though the outer crust was more doughy and could have been tender. This too was served dressed in sour cream and was a very different food combo experience for me. The stuffing was generous <br/><br/>The hero of my meal that day was definitely the dessert. Dusted with sugar powder and served with two generous dollops of vanilla ice cream (the menu mentioned chocolate, they didnā€™t have chocolate ice cream that time), Banana Strudel was a pie filled with caramalized banana and walnuts<br/><br/>The service has a huge huge scope of improvement. Considering I was the single person in the restaurant, I should not have been looking out over and straining my neck to call out for the waiter but unfortunately had to do that every single time.

Decided to try the place meeting friends.. We were a table of 5 good meat eaters. We ordered a lot of things from the menu, and some of them were good, while the others did not impress at all! 1)French fries were perfect... Crisp on the outside, but still soft inside. The 2)cheese balls decent, 3)eggplant cream cheese roll was excellent, 4)the cured pork was the biggest let down that treated only of sweet and not very fresh bread, 5)beef noodle soup that was very average, 6) chicken legs were average and needed more marinating, 7)chicken wings were spicy almost too being Indian in taste, 8)the grilled meat platter had 3 pieces each of chicken, pork and beef. While the beef was cooked well, the other two were tough and dry and needed seasoning. 9)the chicken Kiev was OK... A little charred in places on the outside and just about cooked inside 10)we had the cookies to finish which was actually really nice

Though I have no prior reference to Russian cuisine I would assume i game if they tase like the food which was served here. <br/><br/>The chicken legs where subtle and the sauce was flavorful. And I guess that was the theme. Very fresh ingredients, subtle yet delicious flavors and made to order. <br/><br/>And the ambiance was really nice. I would definitely come back and bring more people.

We were thoroughly disappointed by Winter Palace. After having read the reviews, we decided to visit this place for lunch. We were the only customers there and the serving time was way too long. We ordered Chicken Steak a la Dacha and a Chicken a la Kiev. Both the dishes looked beautiful, 10 points for presentation, however they didnā€™t taste half that good. Chicken a la Kiev was bland and the steak dish barely had any meat, all I could taste was the omelette it was covered in. Even the mashed potatoes were too buttery, and I could barely manage to finish my dish. The dishes served were freshly cooked, so thereā€™s that. Perhaps Russian food is supposed to taste like this, I have no reference point for that. All I can say is that it didnā€™t particularly delight my Indian taste buds.

I wanted to go to this place for a very long time and finally I did. I went with my husband late evening around 7.30pm and instantly liked the place because of the ambience which makes you feel out of the crowded place and people. There were few people already and I liked it better that way because of usual hustle and bustle. Though it is located at a very busy street busy street you donā€™t get to hear much sound. Itā€™s a Russian cultural society so you can see a lot of people on and off. I ordered for a cup of milk coffee and black coffee. What let me down was the black coffee never came till we asked after half an hour. Within few minutes the manager got it. Secondly we ordered for blini, chicken cutlet and khachapuri merguli. Blini came within half an hour and it was delicious. It was like a combination of vanilla pancake with butter, chicken and cheese filling inside. It was something unique and tasted excellent. I could eat another full plate but as I had other food on the way kept my carving aside. Then the chicken cutlet Came and I couldnā€™t wait for the first bite, and it was horrendous. No salt in the cutlet, and it was very dry. Had to put salt and pepper as per our wish. Last but not the least was waiting for more than an hour but our last meal didnā€™t arrive. Infact the manager came to ask if he could produce the bill. We were awestruck like ā€œexcuse me, we are not done yetā€. We told him that our Khachapuri Merguli didnā€™t arrive and we were waiting for it. As usual he ran to the kitchen to check the order and then came back saying it that they are still preparing and it will take half an hour. It was then for which I had lost my mind. Why would he ask for a bill of the food the getting prepared in the kitchen and it will take half an hour more then why didnā€™t they inform us while we were waiting for more than 40 mins. The manager then told that they actually forgot to prepare that. How irresponsible and such pathetic behaviour. Wonder what will happen if the place is crowded. Including us there were only three tables. What made them forget a item. Totally unhappy. I might visit this place again of other resturant are not available.

One this place has Russian cuisines, I am constant here just for their steaks and Patty's, I usually end up having their beef and pork patty which fills you up also I would vote that this place serves the best steaks with creamy mash for about 400-500 bucks. Note - I would skip the rest of the menu specially their soups they only serve them cold very Russian<br/><br/>Ambience is beautiful very quite don't get disturbed, date night worthy.

I had been there a long time back. I would say that place is good for non vegetarians as I prefer vegetarian food šŸ„˜ so I didn't get much variety and the ambience was great šŸ‘šŸ».

Actually this the only place in the city that serves Russian cuisine ,the looks and the ambience is just amazing gives u glimpse of Russia and old colonial look to it when u enter u can see very clean and beautiful interiors with some Russian song playing in the background, the place tends to be always crowded so itā€™s always better to book a table advance .the menus as good spread but desserts are less .the fermented Russian non alcoholic beer was different and good ,the hot soups were splendid but the cold soups were just okay (I felt itā€™s the Russian beer with vegetables tossed in) and cheese kolobobs were must try and to the main course damn they have the best salmon in the city and vfm for all u salmon lovers and the dessert though less in number makes up in it taste and overall good place to hang out and have good Russian food

I was introduced to Russian food at the age of eleven. Our neighbours being Russian. Warm and friendly.Imagine my surprise when I walked into the restaurant. The decor! The ambience a lovely Russian setting for Russian food. The paintings on the wall! OMG.The Vodka shots ordered, we dug into the food. What can I say? Each dish tastier than the other.Right from the ease of finding parking and the relaxed meal we had, was marvellous. The blini, the stroganoff and a few more.So much so, that since we were heading back to Bangalore the next day, by road, I ordered a chicken pie (which has to be pre-ordered 24 hours in advance). The pie was huge that we gorged on it for two days. And absolutely a gourmet's delight. From presentation to the lovely filling. A steaming home made soup to accompany it.My only grouse was that the vodka was not chilled enough! Even then, it was "From Russia with Love".

This restaurant has been in my wishlist ever since it opened. Had their beef kebabs and a mixed stew at a food festival and was blown away. So, we went there for a team lunch. The restaurant itself is a part of the Russian Cultural Centre in Alwarpet, with both indoor and outdoor seating. With the sultry climate, we preferred the indoor seating. We were the only ones sitting inside the entire time we dined. We ordered the calamari and onion rings, fried chicken wings, solyanka (the mixed stew I had tasted at the food festival), lamb chop kebabs, chicken stroganoff and a veg goulash.<br/><br/>Now, my expectation of Russian food was spicy, with it being a cold country and all. Every dish was sweet, except the fried chicken wings which tasted like uncooked chilli powder. I chalked it up to me being unfamiliar with russian cuisine. We were told all dishes would take a minimus of 20-25 minutes. Not a place you should prefer for a work day lunch. Below is my opinion about the dishes.<br/><br/>Calamari and Onion Rings - It had more onions than calamari. The onions were coated thick with a sweet batter that reminded me of Sweet Appam. The calamari had no batter and were so rubbery. It had so much oil, the 3 of us became nauseous and couldn't finish the plate.<br/><br/>Fried Chicken Wings - A well fried chicken wing that I would have enjoyed if not for the raw chilli smell and taste. The others felt it was unpalatable but I powered through because I was hungry.<br/><br/>Solyanka - The taste was good in my opinion. The meat pieces were tough but small enough that I could manage. I wiped it clean. <br/><br/>Chicken Stroganoff - Creamy and good. We had it with mashed potatoes. Honestly, this was the one good dish of the day. The one I've had at Jonah's was better but I had no complaints with this dish.<br/><br/>Veg Goulash - A thick sweet tomato-rajma stew with buttered rice. Not what we expected and we had trouble finishing it.<br/><br/>Lamb chop kebab - This was horrifying. 3 pieces of lamb chop, each having 2 ribs. The meat was so tough that we couldn't tear it with our teeth. Ripped it open to find blood oozing out. Meat that was so tough and charred had blood still flowing inside - no idea how. That was the death of our appetites.<br/><br/>After this, we didn't want to try desserts. The damage was 2200 rs and we were just happy to leave. Would not go back and would definitely not recommend this.<br/><br/>

The winter palace is located inside the Russian consulate office near Stella Maris . I believe this must be part of the food diplomacy or whatever , the decor seemed to transport you to a completely different space , but I had this mild 'govt formal' vibe ;) <br/><br/>Had been to watch a ballet performance and we thought wrapping up with food from Russia will be appropriate. It was a weekend , yet only a couple of more expats were at the restaurant , the service was a little too slow, but they were quite helpful with the menu . A few hits and few misses , but over all a good good experience , the quantities served are quite large, so one needs to keep a tab on how much we order . <br/><br/>I really liked the idea of printing the images next to each item on the menu - however it didn't indicate if it would be hot or cold ;) we ended up with a couple of raw cold soups :P They can improve the quality of menu card printed , and possibly host more food festivals to get in more crowd if they really want to !? The place seems to have lost a Bit of its sheen since it's opening , can do better , considering they've got some interesting recipes on the menu . Go out , experiment a new cuisine this week !

This place located at the Russian cultural Centre. The place was totally empty when we arrived on a Sunday noon. Anyway we wanted to try the Russian cuisine so we ordered a prawn pasta, chicken Plav and a beef steak. The price was 350,300,650 respectively. They took forty minutes to deliver the food on the table. The food was horrible. So bland and the Plav tasted like porridge. Horrible experience. Waste of money.

Dropped in to taste the delicacy of russian food was not happy with the serving but the russian food really tasted good. Don't take any Mocktails and waste your money here.

Its jus a place with Russian food.. so don't expect that Indian juicy shawarma or platters and bite the shoulder of the bearer. No point in giving a 1 star then. Just like me.. ;)

As we entered the restaurant, the ambience was good and the air was filled with Russian composition, we ordered for a traditional Russian soup and an salad as a starter , the soup was creamy and and the salad was crunchy and soft. The mutton was very hard and difficult to chew but the spread was good. We ordered prawn pasta and salom Russia .. usually white sauce doesn't go well with seafood but the white pasta was favourite of all and salom d Russia , was salmon was covered with a crispy layer and served with vegetables.

Our first impression of this restaurant was that it has the cutest interior. The powder blue walls and the elaborate sofas are going to be one of the things that will keep bringing you back here. That and the part that they serve really delicious Russian food and vodka. I'd highly recommend that you try out their mashed potatoes, chicken Kiev, and the Nepolean cake. The custard in the Nepolean cake is smooth and has just the right texture, and the mashed potatoes are creamy and buttery. Their service is usually quite prompt but sometimes there are delays as well. Overall, it is a really good place to dine at if you want to try out authentic Russian food.

Have been seeing this always in Fb,under themed restaurant & finally got a chance to visit. But had to pass lots of hurdles to call & ask, regarding the place. The no.given here in zomato is wrong,a nonsense guy takes the phone, sir this no palace, this Andra room in Chennai..PATHETIC!!then you hunt in google & get a mobile no.That too is gone. Please update your records in internet, guysšŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢.Finally somehow reached there,& got confused when the board "Russian Cultural Centre" stood there.Asked the guard & he pointed inside & straight,it stood..The Winter Palace Restaurant..it had an ambience of a palace inside.Since it was crowded, settled down outside, with cool breeze blowing.Seating was comfy,no mosquitoes..thank God!!Ordered a Blini Tuna Rolls & Chicken legs as the starters. Both were tasty & different,well-presented. For main dish ordered a Beef Steak (it was lovely, though the beef was a little hard to cut ) & Pelmeni(dumplings with beef inside, with sour cream). It was so blunt or Dead..no specific taste,no sugar,no chilly,nothing..ā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļøMaybe russian food is like that..blunt!!no idea, since its my first time. Then ordered a pasta,Pasta with Chicken Liver...that too disappointed, another Blunt dish..How do they eat it,without any taste???šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢ Another huuuge disappointment came in the form of Desserts..Russians dont love CHOCOLATE!!!šŸ˜±šŸ˜±šŸ˜±šŸ˜±šŸ˜±šŸ˜±šŸ˜±šŸ˜±šŸ˜± the only thing which looks almost chocolaty is the Soufle Cake...so there also had to compromise & go for their Russian Special Dessert called the Napolean cake.it was ok,tasted like Vanilla...hmmmm,what to tell??For a variety, you must visit here once. There are some attractive looking starters & main dishes. If you are going first time, you can take the advice of the one who serves, because he knows better..šŸ™„šŸ™„šŸ™„šŸ™„ its a request, please get some Chocolate Desserts or a Tiramisu or a Mousse...Some dishes are not worth the money...a bit expensive..All-together its just ok,but the ambience do look like that of a palace...ultimately we are going to have food, not stay in the palace...All the best guys..a looong way to gošŸ‘

Stationed within the premises of the Russian Cultural Centre, this has been in one of my go to places in the city for a while. We opted for the indoor restaurant this time. However there is a nice BBQ Resto Bar just outside the restaurant and they serve the same menu as well over here. <br/>Exquisite interiors themed as a palace with pleasing colors and fine paintings are certainly captivating. The food they offer is predominantly Russian with some Indian Customization as well. <br/> <br/>Had a four course Russian Meal and all I can say is that it was a wow experience. <br/><br/>Our Orders <br/><br/>- Chicken Borsche <br/>- Salad a la Rus<br/>- Chicken a la Kiev<br/>- Banana Strudel with Nuts<br/><br/>High recommendable šŸ‘šŸ‘Œ

A Royal Russian dining inside the Russian Consulate. The place looks amazing. The blue walls surprisingly gives a classy touch. Beautiful ambience and seatings. <br/><br/>We went for our Friend's bday. So we had pre-ordered a piece of the Napolean cake. It was a typical Russian style one. Rough to be a cake though. Was different n nice in its own form. <br/><br/>Took a lapsha chicken soup. A noodle n chicken soup. Was appetising. For starters we had the fried calamari and onion rings. Personally liked it. The dip was yumm.<br/><br/>For mains we had the 1)Chicken Plov: a pulav but Russian style. Tasted delicious. Most favvv was the 2)Prawn Pasta. I'm usually told that white sauce doesn't go with seafood. But prawns with white sauce was really good. They've made it perfectly. Finally 3)Chicken a la Kiev, batter fried shredded chicken with mashed potatoes. Didn't fancy it much. <br/><br/>A definite try for ambience (60%) and food(40%)

In avid to try a new cusine, I went to this place since it was in my bookmark for a loongg time. This place is inside the Russian cultural center(back side of fortune hotel,gopalapuram).<br/>Frankly speaking, i didn't have any idea about Russian cusine. Only after going there, I came to know that most of the dishes are served raw. There is no much option in the starters that is well cooked. We went with fish and fur(which was writen as cured fiah in the menu, but the waiter told its cooked) and calamari and onion rings from the starters. #fish in fur is layered with carrot, mashed potato, egg white, beetroot sauce, fish and egg yellow scrambled on top. The dish was like jelly layers, and would easily slide in your mouth. It would take time for you to identify which layer is what. #kalamari and onion rings was disappointing, coz it tasted very sweet and the calamari was not fresh(chewy chewy). The rings was oily and after a point it was hard to eat more.<br/>For the main course, we had beef cutlet and Chicken a la kiev. Though the #beef cutlet was thin in the picture if the menu, we got two big one's with grilled vegetables. The beef was soft, which is very rare to find, and could easily be cut through by a fork. The bad thing in the dish was the mustard sauce that came with the dish. It had a pungent flavour and i guess it was spoilt. # chicken al kiev was a big roll stuffed with minced chicken and butter, which ooze out when you cut through the chicken. The roll seems to be small, but its really heavy to have. The dish is serced with mashed potato with a layer of cheese on top of it, which goes well with a chicken.<br/>Overall, if you want an entirely different style of food, you can go for Russian Palace<br/><br/>#must try : fish in fur

Over-hyped place. Food below average. Raw meat dishes specially need a LOT of improvisation. Service slow and waiter "forgets" to deliver the order to the table. He had to be reminded after 30 minutes about the order, which he finally admitted to "not noting it down".

I was looking forward to go to this restaurant for a long time and then I finally did on 13.03.2017. Ā The ambiance and the set-up was too good. The guy did not ask for a glass of water neither did he ask us to sit and to top it off Ā he was extremely rude.

We went to winter palace 2 days ago, we were disappointed for what we expected. We ordered prawn pasta, chicken wings and pork BBQ. Though its expensive, the taste was to not worth the price. For people who love spicy food this place is not recommended. Ambience was good . Service was nice. its a quite place where you can avoid crowd and enjoy yourself for bland or uncooked food.

Bar - calm outdoor bar in the city<br/>Food craving meter - Extreme<br/>Foodgasm meter - Above average<br/><br/>Chicken a la Kiev - was perfectly made. The accompaniments were good too. <br/><br/>Chicken Stroganoff - Tasted delicious with the Mashed potatoes. Creamy and right. <br/><br/>Chicken wings - I suppose the Russian tomato sauce is the only spicy ingredient in their menu. The wings had a honey sauce all over it that gave the fried wings a good flavour. <br/><br/>Alcohol - comes only in 50ml servings at a good price. <br/><br/>We didn't go all out and try authentic Russian food because the tummy was asking for something way above zero level spice. <br/><br/>Compliments from the Chef: <br/>Caviar on egg - The whole combination in a a tiny bite tasted new and fresh. Loved the mix. <br/>Red salmon on egg - Turned out just right. You don't get a fishy taste at all and is perfectly cut for the combination. <br/><br/>We were last seen thinking 'What would we choose to eat if we ended up at Moscow?'<br/><br/>Prachi Trivedi <br/><br/>

Really lovely comfort food. Although there are not a lot of options for vegetarians on the menu, my friend who went with me and who is vegetarian said she enjoyed her meal. Indeed, her vegetarian goulash was very tasty. I got the Fish with Fur and Borscht and enjoyed both. I'd definitely go back!

Ambience: Good, peaceful. You can either sit out in the open air placement or inside the restaurant. Both are very good options.<br/> <br/>Service: Very good, polite and courteous staff<br/><br/>Menu: Authentic Russian, no Indian twists<br/><br/>Pricing: Fair<br/><br/>Food: Authentic....which I really appreciate. But I guess Rissian food is just not to my taste. But I'm glad I got to experience it right here.<br/><br/>Overall: Really good to savour authentic Russian cuisine.<br/><br/>Experience: My husband ordered either the BORSCH or LAPSCHA soup, while I decided to sample their Special SOLYANKA soup. When I asked for a description, I was told it contained chicken, beef, pork and fish. I love my meats so this got me super excited. I was cautioned that this preparation takes about 40 mins, but i assured the staff that it was okay with me and I'd rather wait and sample it than regret later. Firstly the menu depicted a lovely burgundy coloured soup. But what I got was a pale onion coloured soup. It was filled with onion chunks and was neither a clear broth nor a thick soup....more homestyle. I was so disappointed with it. My husband had a similar soup with onion chunks. But the bread that accompanied it was delicious, fresh and so soft. Then we tried a dish called STROGANINA which were some thin slices of cured beef. This dish was very good. I kept seeing blini all over their menu. I knew I wouldn't sleep well at night if I hadn't ordered it. So i had a cured tuna BLINI. I think i ordered all the wrong things. Maybe the chicken or caviar would have been a safer bet. Really bland fishy tuna. But the blini roll in itself was good....just like a pancake, some kind of a pancake maki roll. They even served it with Japanese soy. For main course, my husband tried the Chicken KIEV which was good. I asked for the MANTI, which was unavailable. So I settled for a similar dish - PELMENI. It was just like a dumpling with extremely fine boiled beef mince/meatloaf. The filling was tiny and sooooooo damn salty. I could have obviously stuck with the safer bets like pasta, steak, grills or even French stroganoff. But i really wanted an authentic experience...which i got i guess. (except for the soup and Khvas). I guess it's just my personal palette which is not tuned in to Russian cuisine as yet. My husband had a FRESH LIME SODA. It was good. I wanted a KHVAS (famous Russian brew). But it was unavailable :(

Placed in the heart of the Russian cultural centre, this place has a beautiful ambience with both indoor and outdoor seating arrangement. We ordered chicken wings for starters and chicken steak and chicken stroganoff for main course. The chicken wings were a little saltier than required and the stroganoff was a little sweet. Although, the chicken steak was quite tasty. For dessert we ordered the Napoleon cake and banana strudel. Both the dishes were good and were served in enormous quantity, though I would go with the Napoleon cake if I had to choose between the two.

first of all, menu has to be updated!<br/><br/>this place is inside the Russian cultural center premises. Hence has a good parking space. This place has both outdoor n indoor seating. Quite calm n secluded given the location. Charming service. Moderately priced for quantity served. Quite a menu for non veggies! <br/><br/>This place has no non-alcoholic drinks! the one that they claim is non alcoholic is made out of fermented bread n contains alcohol way below the accepted level n hence is considered to be non alcoholic. so to the non-alcoholics. u dont get your regular soft drinks or juices or milkshakes here! u get served only wit water ;)<br/><br/>We had ordered MUSHROOM BLINI for starters which tasted like mushrooms stuffed inside battered flour served with mayo! It is supposed to be a russian pancake n this did it's deed! it was a lil sweet though! For the maincourse, we had ordered fried noodles with mashed potato n veg goulash! The quantity of both were less! we were still hungry after a starter n a maincourse! But the flavors seemed original. Not much of desserts! <br/><br/>A must visit place! i would definitely recommend.

Pathetic food and service. They didn't have proper drinks and food was all cold and bland. I just couldn't eat anything. Only good thing was peaceful setup of the restaurant. Rest everything was very regular. Will not recommend.

Ambience is nice, but as we were the only diners (on a Saturday afternoon!), it is somewhat hard to be sure. Ambience is best judged when the place is populated and is giving off a vibe.Ā  Soft rock music, a crystal glass chess set (missing a knight!) and blue plates all over were what stuck to my mind after I left. <br/><br/>Service was good, but then again, the waitstaff had very little else to do.Ā  The manager was also cordial and helpful.Ā  I was a little annoyed that the credit card machine would not accept cards issued outside India - that seems ridiculous, for something located inĀ the Russian Cultural Centre.Ā Ā Russians or foreign tourists who came there for a sampling of food from Russia could not use credit cards issued in their home countries (!).Ā <br/><br/>We are vegetarians, and looked carefully through the menu displayed in the window that is visible on the street to make sure there were enough items for us.Ā  There are enough vegetarian items to satisfy a reasonable sized party.Ā <br/><br/>That said,Ā I found the food quality bland and not very flavourful.Ā  The veg tower was unremarkable, and the cheese balls were undistinguished.Ā  The veg soup (not the borscht but the one with kidney beans) was not very good at all.Ā  We also ordered a potato pancake-type dish and a dish that looked like ravioli with ricotta cheese in it.Ā  Again, nothing memorable - the latter was quite devoid of flavour altogether. <br/><br/>The Manager confirmed that most Russian food is pretty bland - and given that our group's palate is bland to start with, it must have been exceedingly bland for us to feel the way we did.Ā  <br/><br/>Maybe we chose the wrong dishes, or maybe the chef was not inspired to cook for a crowd of four people in an empty restaurant.Ā  Whatever the reason,Ā it was not a memorable food experience for us.Ā  <br/><br/>Overall - not aĀ bad experience, but not much better thanĀ mediocre.

A Russian themed restaurant. Most of the dishes we had was raw and tasted bitter, Apparently Russians consume more of raw food. As for me Indians aren't going to be satisfied with the food they do serve coz our flavours are totally different. A group of Russians sitting next to our table were enjoying their food, so the food being good or bad depends on ur palate. I didn't like it for the first time in here but maybe if I visit this place for the second time I'll love food. If you are upto trying a new cuisine you can try in here but there's nothing tremendous about this place.

Winter palace at the Russian cultural centre is a little different than most restaurants I have been to.<br/><br/>The ambiance was very eye catching and was presumably Russian themed. We went on a weekend for lunch yet, for more than half the meal there was one else in the restaurant apart from us (which honestly I didn't mind at all). Ambiance - 4/5.<br/><br/>The cuisine was largely Russian and Continental. The mushroom sauce in the pancake and stroganoff was especially excellent. Food - 4/5.<br/><br/>The dessert was disappointing though. The Napoleon cake seemed to not have enough filling between the hard puff pastry. Dessert - 2/5<br/><br/>The service was courteous, prompt and not intrusive. Service - 5/5<br/><br/>P.S. Please don't play Bieber.

After so many reviews and suggestions, we explored winter palace's Russian cuisine. The place had a royal ambience. Good service. Tuna fish was delicious. A weird combo of pork n beef stuffed and steamed, won the best dish of the day. In spite of higher prices, you would never get disappointed about the food.

Tucked inside the Russian cultural centre is this cute Russian themed restaurant. We were a group of very satisfied vegetarians after the meal though the place was a non veg speciality. They have separate menu for both and also serve drinks. An outdoor seating is also available.<br/><br/>We started with the Royal tomatoes which was essentially tomatoes stuffed with cheese - very juicy and succulent. The cheese didnt overpower or make you feel heavy.<br/><br/>Aubergine Causcaus- It was chargrilled to perfection with a hint of raw garlic in the end which added to the spiciness and elevated the dish.<br/><br/>veg vinaigerette- Baked vegetables and kapers tossed in a vinegar sauce. Wouldn't meet everyone's taste because it is a salad. But we liked it.<br/><br/>Veg Tower with cheese- This was a slight disappointment because one of the aubergines was undercooked. But otherwise tasted good.<br/><br/>Mushroom cocotte- Easily became everyone's favorite. caramelised mushrooms and onions baked with cream cheese and served with sour dough bread. Yum!!<br/><br/>We shared two soups Krasnador which is a cold toamto soup and Svekolnik which was boiled beets and fresh vegetables topped with sour cream. Both tasted good.<br/><br/>For the main course we had, Veg Goulash with buttered rice which was creamy and very tasty. We also had the Grilled vegetables- again char grilled to perfection and it had a green chutney on top which elevated it so much more. <br/><br/>Mashed potatoes- Creamy buttery torched on top. Easily the best we had. Clearly, Russia has the best Mashed potatoes. Absolute YUM!<br/><br/>We had the Khachapuri Merguli which was dough and cheese baked.. Similar to a pizza but tastes slightly different and is a tad lighter. <br/><br/>We finished with a Banana Strudel with nuts which turned out to be our only disappointment as none of us liked it.<br/><br/>We were four of us who ate all that and the bill was just 2156 Rs. They levy no tax and the bill include the three bottles of water we had. <br/><br/>All in all it was very satisfying.I t was everyone's first time with Russian and we did enjoy it. I dont have the pictures now, might update later.

After reading all the reviews i thought of giving a try for this place.First of all there is nothing so Russsian about the food they serve. We ordered the following<br/>1: Chicken cutlet which tasted really good. They served 2 pieces and it was enough for two people<br/>2 : Chicken straganoff with buttered rice. The chicken wad yummy and perfect. The rice had too much butter which made me feel like i m eating more of butter than rice.<br/>3 : Chicken Plov.It was like veg pulav with chicken shredded in it.<br/>To sum up it was just an average restraunt and on a weekend I have visited this place and we were the only customer

So that was a plus :)<br/>We went for lunch. I had nearby vouchers.<br/>Location-google map.<br/>Service-was great :)<br/>Food-<br/>we gotĀ <br/>a soup(i dont remember the name) but it was really good<br/>Aubergines caucasus - i love egg plant so this was my favorite<br/>veg vinaigrette - my friend and i didnt like it.Ā <br/>veg goulash- loved it but it had less quantity<br/>fried noodles- was okish again<br/>we got a dessert separately. It was okish<br/>Russian cuisine is not my cup of tea :)

Loved the place! Good ambience. We sat outside and the area was pretty neat and clean. The staff was very nice and helped us in picking up the right food. We had chicken wings, Russian special plov, chicken calamari, chicken a LA steak. And desserts were souffle cake, napoleon cake.

I've never tried Russian food before so when we decided to go to the Winter Palace, I spent some time on Google trying to make sense of the menu! Of course by the time we got there,we had forgotten everything we researched! But that turned out to be unnecessary as they had a wonderful illustrated menu, which clearly shows you what you're about to get :)<br/><br/>The interiors are all blue and white and very classy, and the staff was very courteous and pleasant without being intrusive at all, while at the same time ensuring that our glasses were always promptly refilled.<br/><br/>We practically had the entire place to ourselves and spent a very enjoyable couple of hours working our way through the menu. We had the Salad a la Rus (Russian Salad), Russian Vodka (Served with pickled olives, tomatoes,Zucchini and cabbage), Varennikhy (dumplings stuffed with potato or cottage cheese and served with sour cream), Chicken Steak a la Dacha and Beef Cutlets (main courses are served with mashed potatoes or vegetables). Everything was very flavorful and juicy. Though the individual portions were small, the full meal was just the right amount. We loved everything except the Varennikhy, which was a little bland (we would have preferred some tangy sauce to the sour cream).<br/><br/>It was a little pricey but interestingly, the prices shown are inclusive of taxes. So what you see is what you pay!<br/><br/>Overall, a wonderful introduction to Russian cuisine and a lovely place for a quiet meal.

Had never heard of a "Russian Cuisine" but was very fascinated when I went to this place. Their Khvas cold beverage (made from Rye bread) was superb. Beetroot cheese cold salad was also yummy. Overall delicious and different food. Slightly costly but worth the ambiance, service and experience.

Located inside Russian Culture building.... This place caught my attention because of its ambience. I happened to visit the place on my colleague's b ' day. No one was there except us. V enjoyed a lot because f d privacy v had.<br/>Ambience - 5. <br/>Service - 5<br/>Food - 4<br/>Value for money - 4.5<br/>Being the first time for Russian cuisine, v found difficult in choosing the items. Yet the bearer was kind n helped us a lot n having their best preparations.<br/>V had <br/>Semga fish steak, chicken stroganoff, pasta with prawns, lamb chops bbq, prawn bbq, Russian nut biscuits, napoleon cake. Everything were fine n tasted quite different compared to my regular Indian cuisine. Winter Palace is a stamp of difference. They've got great Russian cuisine, the ambiance is wonderful and the location is great. There's an element of exquisite, and their service was fantastic too.

I cannot stop raving about this place. I've been wanting to go try a themed restaurant for a while and Chennai has a few of them and this always featured on top. So me and a couple of friends finally arrived at the Russian consulate to try out a different cuisine and we were definitely taken aback with what we tried. <br/><br/>We had the krasnodar tomato soup which was actually served cold but tasty, the veg tower with cheese starter which was absolutely tasty in the beginning. <br/>For main course we had chicken stroganoff, chicken cutlets, chicken steak a la dacha and a veg goulash. Every dish had a different subtle flavour and tasted amazing. I personally ordered the Chicken cutlets and absolutely loved it. All the chicken dishes were served with mashed potato where as the veg goulash was served with buttered rice. <br/>The staff were very courteous and helpful and the restaurant was peaceful so lunching here felt really good on a Saturday afternoon. <br/>Kudos to the team!

The place is legendary. It is inside the Russian centre in Alwarpet . You may have second thoughts before entering. Don't get confused and just enter the place . It's an amazing place . For amazing Russian food. The deserts are amazing . I celebrated my birthday and they gave me the best gift ever that is complementary deserts. It's one of the places of you visit you will definitely keep coming back to ...šŸ¤—šŸ˜šŸ˜ŒšŸ˜Œ

Being named as the 'winter palace' the decor is done with ice blue and white pastel colors with a royal touch. The food here tastes like frozen food...which also justifies the name 'winter palace'. We had ordered for steaks n shashliks of chicken, beef and pork (all well done). The meat was so rubbery and tasted like leather. The only great dish served that day was the dessert...it was the famous Russian dessert 'Napoleon cake' we had ordered for. The cheesy white chocolate layers of delight, garnished with condensed milk...was an absolute 'happy ending'. Otherwise, if u wanna have frozen food...go to winter palace.

The ambience is worth a view but if not a Russian food lover then the visit must be restricted to once. But they serve homemade beer as a complementary drink which must be a reason to visit since it's just yum!

The Winter Palace is located inside the Russian Cultural Center grounds. <br/><br/>The ambiance was quite nice. A very nice, winter-blue decor, with imitations of ornate wood furniture making it look a little like a Russian or English Tea Room. The soft Russian music in the background was also nice touch.<br/><br/>The place was empty when I went. To be fair, I was early for lunch and it was a Thursday.<br/><br/>The borscht and the chicken wing starters were excellent. As was the chicken stroganoff, all recommended by the staff. The stroganoff was a little mild, absolutely speaking. I then had a Napolean cake, which was nice and a little less soft than I had expected.<br/><br/>The food was good, but I have no idea how close to authentically Russian it was. I hope to go back with someone in the know, next time.

I wanted to experiment Russian cuisine for quite sometime and was waiting for an opportunity to visit Winter Palace! <br/>When a friend asked me to meet up for dinner, I was quick to suggest this place and he agreed after some hesitation. <br/><br/>Ambience: The place is all Blue and was quite pleasing to eyes. Loved the decor and seating. The place wasn't crowded too on a saturday night. <br/><br/>Food: We had a little deliberation over the menu and finally ordered. <br/><br/>Starters: <br/>Salo - cold cut pork drizzled with sauce. The waiter informed us that the pork is uncooked and may not be to our liking, I was ok with it and my palate did accept it. <br/>Chicken Wings - My friend's order and it was spicy to my liking however he enjoyed it. <br/><br/>Main Course: <br/>Chicken Plov - Russian style briyani which was nothing to rave about but not bad either.<br/>Beef cutlet with mash potatoes - The cutlets were succulent and I loved the pickled vegetables. The mash potatoes were cold and was not creamy as I would have liked it.<br/><br/>Desserts:<br/>Napoleon Cake - Loved the presentation of the cake and everything ends there... <br/>Just had a spoon and found a little strand of hair when I was about to scoop the second one. Did not want to make an issue but notified the manager who was quick to apologise and offer replacement. My bad luck the kitchen was closed and had to share the brownie of my friend. <br/>Brownie - The brownie was moist and tad sweet to my preferred sugar limit.<br/><br/>The quantity was pretty decent to our standards. The bill was about 1500 including a water bottle and the Napoleon cake was not billed.

So I'm a part of the couch surfing community which is basically group of travellers, <br/>We occasionally meet up at restaurants.. <br/>Winter palace(located inside therussian cultural centre) is one of our usual hangouts..<br/>The place is amazing, and peaceful.. The winter palace is a small outdoor cabin kinda place which serves authentic Russian food and drinks!<br/>There are all kinds of Russian food available, and unfortunately I am having a bit of a trouble in remembering few of those names. <br/>I had a Coco mocktail once, it was creamy, and delicious!šŸ˜ø and Russian BBQ really gets you going...<br/>They serve Russian vodkašŸ˜»<br/>The price tag is a tad bit costly though..<br/>Anyways the service and ambiance will make you forget all that.<br/>For a Russian experience visit the winter palace..!

Had heard a lot about this place and was was excited to visit it on Christmas eve only to hear that Russians celebrate in Jan. Was a bit disappointed because they were out of Kvass but enjoyed the Okroshka and their Chicken a la ruse. The place was a bit too quiet. Some Russian music wouldn't have been a harm. Service was okay. Nothing extraordinary. On the whole, a good place to visit if you want to experiment with your palate.

Had a good time in winter palace... Russian nuts cookies and Napoleon cake was awesome... Very quiet place with little music to ears.. wonderful
