Review Hotel Shree Mangalambiga Restaurant - Chennai (Madras)

One of the best breakfast spot I have found around the neighbourhood at tasty authentic South Indian breakfast spot in pic u see the set dosa and vadacurry and ghee roast their coffee is best
Bhuvanesh arulraj
My experience was really good. And all our friends enjoyed the food. Their taste is good.you can get rose milks for free during Friday to Sunday if u eat above 300. And service could be improvised. There is only one person to serve. So that's the only issue. But taste for that price is very good. So if u want to eat need not to think you can expect good food.

Taste is pretty good here. Good place for vegetarians. The ambiance is maintained good. Rates are very nominal here. One of the must try is there rose milk. They also provide marriage catering and decorating services.
Divya B
Good South Indian restaurant.I feel as though it may be a bit more on the pricier side, not too expensive, but not as cheap as you'd expect a restaurant which only offers self service to be.
Rajasekar Muthu
It's a vegetarian hotel with self service, no option of table service, food is good. We had meals, mini meals and ghee roast, taste is good. Meals and mini meals cost Rs.130/- each, ghee roast cost Rs.115/-. These cost excluding tax. Extra 5% applicable for tax. If you are looking for table service, this hotel is not preferable as it has only self service. Thank you.

Good multi cuisine veg restaurant, but bit pricy compared to other hotels in that area. Ambient place with decent space for dine-in. Well maintained clean dine-in area. Only drawback is lack of car parking space. You have to park the car by the road side.
GBS Nagendran
It’s good for budget breakfast

Budget friendly also clean. Only self service and mint water is too good ☺️.
Ramesh Samiappa
Neatness and respected. Small cabin at a time 20 members eating facility. Affordable price.

First visit. A small restaurant but in a prime locality, good ambiance, well maintained. Dishes were very hot Taste was good. Worth for the money spent..

A good vegetarian hotel that offers different varieties of dosas that are not usually available in other hotels. They server wheat and ragi dosas. They also serve many varieties of tiffens at affordable cost that are tasty. It is air conditioned and self service. They have both dine in and take away facility.

Value for money and authentic food

A decent self service hotel in this area, had idly dosa vadai and filter coffee, my opinion it's all good in taste. Can try.

We bought Pizza Dosa and Channa Batura. The pizza dosa was priced at 125 INR. There were literally 5-8 pieces of capsicum and the cheese was added to the barest minimum. We can't even justify it as namesake. The Dosa was dry and badly undercooked. They price it at an amount more than a personal pizza and the dish turns out to be abominable. Channa Batura was more of a Papad. The Channa was also really below average. Along with taxes, the bill added to 226, which went down the drain. Just serving bad food is one thing, but the exorbitant prices are the real shocker.
Venkatesh K
Over priced average taste. Had ordered puttu kadala from this joint and I felt as if I was given some left over puttu. Kadala was really below average.

Very good Place for Breakfast but ambience however isn't much to expect when you compare the taste of the food! South Indian foods are so tasty. If you're hungry for some south Indian food at cheap rate and good taste try this place ! Mini tiffin and Idiyappam 💫
2.5/5 for ambience not to expect much
4 /5 for the Taste
Small place , small joint but they do serve good food . Their meals is quite good. And their rasmalai is simply amazing and delightful . But a very small and crowded place.

Worst dosa ever had, not at all good not cooked properly it was more over like a paratha, tomato chutney was worst never had such bad experience...and rate were high as compared to quality i ordered paper roast dosa
Been there today with friends.
Idlis served cold. Returned and got equally cold idlis. Nobody serves cold idlis these days. Serving child idlis after complaint is very bad attitude.
Chutney heavily mixed with roasted gram. Did not have taste of coconut chutney at all. Very bad attitude again.
Said no manpower. People are on leave and so many items are unavailable or will be delayed. Something wrong with managing such contingencies. Hotels don't talk like that.
Earlier I would have given 4 star. This experience was very negative. Hence 3 star.

This hotel is located near Ashok Nagar 7th Avenue police booth. It has both self service counter and where food is served.

Have been to this place earlier too but usually had in the self service seating area and tried mostly Idli/dosa items which is good.

This time around wanted to try something different. Got seated in the service area which is a bit small and around 20 people can be seated at a time.
ordered for veg noodles, veg manchurian and kothu parota.

Kothu parota was served hot with raita. First time ever had kothu parota which didn't ooze out oil and was tasty. The bowl got over in minutes.
Then arrived the noodles and manchurian.. once again the noodles wasn't very oily and well prepared. Manchurian that accompanied along with it (not the one we ordered) was tasty but was cold. And the veg manchurian (gravy) that we ordered was piping hot but wasn't that tasty !!! It was a bit bland.

The total cost of this came to 445/- which I think is a bit costly but then the quality of the food was good!

Overall it was good. A place to enjoy your meal with family.

Good place. Have had chaat and special meals. Also the best was mini tiffin was 75 INR which has lots of items. Good place to grab a quick bite in and around ashok nagar
Harish Rajendran
ordered cheese dosai and except in the name there wasn't any cheese in that dosai! and dosai was so dry was not able to eat it properly! very poor !

Its a normal restaurant with self service. But prices are like 5 star hotel.taste is also horrible... not a goos place to dine in.small and crappy.

Visited in the evening and had Very good authentic south indian tiffin and chat varieties. They also have some unique dishes like javvarisi vadai, Ragi semiya idly etc which were tasty . All the items are priced very reasonably. Wish to visit again for lunch sometime soon.
BALAJI
Ordered tiffin combo for delivery, menu mentioned a coffee in the combo.. When order was delivered coffee was not given, when asked the delivery guy he said it is inside the carry cover.
Opened and found no coffee at all. When contacted restaurant they said no coffee available and they will return the amount for a coffee and disconnected.. Not even a mere apology..
When tried contacting again no response.. This was the 1st time having food here and last time too. Never coming back. Such a pathetic service/customer response.

Small Air conditioned restaurant. Reached hotel by 9.10 am. Ordered for breakfast combo, waiter came back after 5 mins and informed It's not available. With disappointment ordered for Poori. This time he took 10 mins to say ' ITS NOT AVAILABLE' . Being a Sunday morning, me too felt lazy to leave this hotel and to search next..So without giving up, I ordered for Idiappam with vadacurry. Waiter gave me Idiappam with kuruma and told vadacurry is over. Completely spoiled Sunday morning hangout. Kids and wife tried ghee dosa, pongal, basundhi and rasa malai. None of us are satisfied. Very poor arrogant service, average food, high price (equivalent or more than Saravana Bavan). Will never recommend this hotel even to enemies
Prashant A
Really not worth it. The place is small and inviting at first glance. However, the service is poor, the food is average, the portions are tiny and the prices are astronomical. It's just a downer at times when you want some authentic south Indian food. Would not recommend.
Arul Kirubakaran Mathiyazhagan
New:
Around 9:30 in the morning, the entire menu vanished and you get to choose only from very limited choices. Settled with Dosa. Wasn’t made well.. you ask for chutney and the waiter brings another plate to you and says take this.. worst service.. it was better when self service
Old:
Good for breakfast and Dinner. Adai aviyal is a really good choice. The normal everyday breakfast is good but price will match that of HSB or be a little bit more.
Veeraraghavan Thirumalai
This restaurant is located at the junction of postal colony road and Ashok Nagar 7th avenue. Ambience is very simple and serves the purpose. Service is self cratered but service across counter is pretty efficient. I have tasted few of their delicacies. While all their preparations are authentic and tasty i am a huge fan of their Adai Vellam and Avial. Price is reasonable and for a quick bite this place is great value for money. Recommended for casual visits.

Just 2 minutes walk from my home , they are basically marriage caterers , so you can always be sure about the taste . Place is small and cleanly maintained just a little expensive but still not a bad option at all . All their south indian items are good , special mention about Pongal and vada , chutneys and Sambar are decent , their meals is excellent good varieties with good quantity it is an favourite of my wife , daughter and my wife sisters who stay in Bangalore , their trip is not completed without a meal here. Filter coffee is good. We always prefer parcels due to lack of parking space and not availability of A/C.
Abdul Halim Sufri
I came here for my breakfast, previously it will be costly here than hot chips with less quantity ,once i had a bad experience and never been here but today breakfast it was good, I got a good combo breakfast of my favourites in just 50 bugs. You can see the pic
My rating is for hotel location, price and food...

Really a good place. The atmosphere, their service, food, hospitality are really upto the level. Their SAMBAR is a remarkable one. It's taste is absolutely divine. They have been using innovative ideas like their new PAGING SYSTEM / THE TOKEN system which alarms when your food is ready to take off from the delivery counter. Its an unique idea and it helps the customers to find themselves a seat and relax until their food is ready, which is different from other restaurants. This restaurant is an unique one. It is a must-visit place for all foodies.

Had a Sweet , Adai aviyal and Thengai sevai . Sweet is not bad not too good. the other 2 dishes totally let me down.
Adai is like an oothappam not tasted like Adai , aviyal is too liquid . And thengai ( Coconut) sevai gave me a bad odour may be its at the starting stage of 'OFF' didn't found any coconut flavour too . sambhar and chutney is not so good. may be a poor experience for my Taste i think.

Had the opportunity to visit this outlet on 7th during lunch. The crispy dosa, hot chapatis, filter coffee with aroma has to be highly commented. Particularly the female supervisor belated attendance with apology is stunning with surprise and really I was taken back for the excellent service. I would rather recommend to visit in this outlet and enjoy the quality. The prices are reasonable when compared to HSB, Hot chips and for their minimum quality and quantity.
Oman Office
It's a good place for purists. Some unique vada and dosa Varieties which could be their signature dish.

Place is small; courtesy is smaller; their resistance to crowd ambiguity is the smallest.

Still worth dining here
GOVIND
The quality and taste are the pluses, though pricey..the disgusting part is the waiting time..since there are very few persons manning the counters , it's an agonising wait till you get your dishes..all their staff should have a crash course in courteous service

I went to Mangalambika Hotel on last saturdaywith my famiy,I found a new thing that they have introduced a new items such as vazhaipoo podi uthappam, Jawarasi Vadai, Mudakathan Dosai, Mysore Masala Dosai,etc...
It was different from other hotels and the taste was quite good. The taste and quality was diffrent from others.

High priced for the quantity.
Taste and quality is nothing exceptional but never has let down either.
Regular authentic south Indian food presented in decent way.
I feel because of the branding and the location, the restaurant thrives quite well.
My fav here is adai with avial.Their make is very authentic and divine.
Rava dosai and pongal is also their specials.
This place is a must visit for the purest form of mylapore cuisine at costly deal:)

Much costly food. If you travel little more ahead to mambalam area, you can see lot of good hotels. I just tried their food twice. Only for tiffen items I recommend here. Lunch it is much costlier & not at all worth. It was too spicy. Only spicy loves will like it. If you purchase as parcel, eat it as soon as possible. Much delay makes after taste.
Sreethala
This is the hotel next door. a stone's throw away from my home this is a small self service hotel. Nothing to talk about the ambiance, it is all business here - get your token , place your order , identify a target who is about to complete his food, stare shamelessly at them until you make them very conscious and they eat faster and quickly occupy the seat(!!) or take a parcel. Food tastes good and pricing is on the higher side. Love their coffee. Strictly for quick tiffen.
Sukumar
Ambience wise a small place with some seating availability and some standees table like a typical fast food.
I was asked to buy meals takeaway here based on tiffin dishes which were supposedly good and the place is clean.
A Meal costed 115₹ but I didn't feel it was worth the amount, the kolumbu was not good while sambar and rasam were very average.
The packaging was good, the quantity of rice was more but the curries didn't attend to half the rice.

A little disappointed with the taste.
Iamrock51in
Except for parking and seating, this place is one excellent joint for veg lovers

One can crab a quick bite on the go. It s nicely located n ashok nagar and is proving to be proud of the place.
Ashwin Ramesh
Good variety for South Indian cuisines and a great spot for coffee and evening snacks , there is a lot of crowd and the place is well managed by not comprising its quality .
Perennially Hungry
Pretty decent hotel. You get good value for money. Takeaway is preferable in this place. The food is good and it's my dad's favorite place for a quick bite. Best option for fast food, in this area.
Sugan
I was passing by this hotel felt hungry just hopped in. It is a pure veg fast food. You can park car in some nearby street. Ambiance is decent for fast food. It is self service restaurant. Meals cost Rs.90/- which is excellent. You will get sweet, vada, dal etc apart from regular sambar, karakolambu etc. Good value for money.

Back to home from my college finishing all my work and with a famished stomach I needed a quick place to pay and bite. So the main point is the hotel should be near my home. Therefore I chose this place which had always attracted me amongst several others since it was a new establishment but I never made up my mind to go into it until such a situation like this drove me to it. Equipped with decent cash and my mom Kalpana Dhilip Kumar wished to accompany me to this place. I witnessed a rather normal set up with the typical Indian way of welcoming hungry Passer by s with a menu board showcasing what was special for the day. Three main things I noticed about this restaurant were the gaudy green furniture, the unclean used up plates without any proper clearing up although many staff were seen loitering about and the large self service board. The self service board does not keep up to it s name because I waited for a time time to be served my simple home thali meals. But the meals were good and tasty just like the home made delicacy one would relish when you go back home hungry looking for more. The food was a little spicy here and there but overall the food was delectable and the after effects were a good sound snooze and nothing drastic happened to me so it s safe to eat from here. That s all for today folks! Enjoy ur time in this restaurant if u r really. Interested in going there by reading my review

Been there several times during my Ashok Nagar visit. The snacks/tiffin are good. Meals - Rasam, Sambar were quite good, though the side dishes weren't great. Cost is somewhat a rip off...

I've been here a few times. The place looks okay. The huge letdown is the time it takes in the billing counter since its a self service joint. Second letdown is that the tables are not promptly and properly cleaned. The only saving grace is the food, but that too i feel is not very consistent. Price is not cheap and is at par with Saravana Bavan. Will visit this place only for certain dishes like Arisi upma and Semiya Kichadi.

Small and decent restaurant apt for a Saturday evening with 2-3 friends.
Pros:
1)Taste
2)Mini-Idly
3)Waiting time is less

Cons:
1)Expensive(same as HSB)
2)Would be mostly crowded as one quarter of West Mambalam population will be there in weekends.
3)Self-Service
4)Have to stand and eat if the 5-6 chairs are filled.
Sathyanarayanan Krishnababu
The great Gobi !

With a very tasty sambar and tomato chutney as all time favourites.. U can try anythng on their cards..

Bt don't miss out on Gobi Manchurian dry.. One of the beat in this area..
Gangadhar Govindaraju
Not customer friendly.....Self service only..Menu are ok....quantity is very very less for the price charged.????. Easily accessible on the main road. Parcels don't have direction to get the token to differentiate between self service. Offten people confused while billing for parcel and there will be chaos in converting self service to parcel. Parcel rates tooo little hight, May because of the materials used in making the parcel box.

#104 - Reviewed on 13-Dec-14:

A small vegetarian hotel in Ashok Nagar, which serves a decent food. Two days before(11-Dec) I went here for dinner, ordered chapathi & onion dosa for take away for my friend.

Chapathi was tastier but oily. Onion Dosa was nice with two chutneys & sambar. Packing was also decent with foil paper.

It's small restaurant wth only self service & you can eat either sitting or standing like any other self service restaurant.

Price seems to be expensive for self service type, i had better food for lesser price, even on service restaurants like Ganesh Bhavan, Data Ddipi hotel etc.

A very decent veg restaurant at Ashok Nagar, if you are craving for good south indian food & tired of Saravana Bhavan.
Navin Nayagam
One of the hotel very close to my home but am not greatly interested with this hotel. Fast food center with no ac but priced as costly as saravana bhavan. Definitely not highly recommended for family. Takeaway is preferable. Rava idli is a must try here.
Yogaraja Subramaniam
the employees from hs,b started this. fast-food. really worth trying. will not regret. I love the adai aviyal
Narahari Barve
I travel by this place almost daily, this place is a very simple vegetarian restaurant, the menu is not exhaustive hence it is easy to make your choice. They position themselves as a fast food outlet. You choose from the menu, pay for it, hand over the bill at the delivery counter, for sure you are not made to wait. Its handed over to as fast as they are prepared.
Coming to the food we ordered Mini Idly Sambhar was simply superb. Sambhar stood out and was yummy. Rawa idly was just soft and fluffy, served with pudina chutney and potato masala, it was delicious. Adai avial was served in traditional way with grated jagery and butter wrapped in plantain leaf. Finally the jewel on the crown was appam with coconut milk. It was so deliciously beautiful, at one point I felt not to eat it.

As a whole worth every penny of your money. Good option for take away if you are running late from office to home.
Ramakrishnan Balasubramanian
Nice place for a tiffin, must try Pesarattu, Idiappam w/ Vadacurry.

They are good any South Indian dish, I am yet to try the north Indian fare. Undoubtedly a good place to go in Ashok Nagar area.

Update on 29 May 2016.

Had ordered take away recently.

I checked by chance and they had missed an item, went back again. While checking they took out all the items and missed another item which was there previously. Had to go back again.

And I understand this occurred for some others also. Better check take away items before you leave the place

Hotel Shree Mangalambiga is a small restaurant located in ashok nagar. I have been here on two occasions, both times completely hunger stricken on my way back from work at an odd time when it is too close to dinner time but still a time until when I cannot restrain from feeding my tummy. And here comes mangalambiga to the rescue. With a name as traditional as it is I decided to try our very own well known traditional south Indian tiffin items. Idli sambhar it is. I pay at the counter and wait wishing the place was air conditioned. 2 minutes pass and I collect my plate of two idlis with a side of piping hot sambhar, tomato, pudhina and coconut chutney. Their sambhar is the highlight. You simply can't get enough of it. Otherwise all the chutneys too are great. But the sambhar is too yummy that it stands out making one (atleast me) literally dip the idli trying into it trying to soak it up with as much sambhar as possible. Having tasted such good sambhar next time I went for the 14 idlis and I was all smiles. I would name the star of this small restaurant their sambhar. Their onion uthappam too is good and pretty standard. Apart from these they also serve north Indian items like naan, Roti's and subjis that I m yet to taste. They also serve bajjis and bondas in the evening and many visitors to the restaurant seem to be binging on these a lot. And there is chaat too. I can safely say from my experience that this is a safe bet for south Indian tiffin. I ll try to update this review after tasting more from here esp their north Indian items.
