Review Spice Crush - Chennai (Madras)

This restaurant is next to Anna Nagar Tower metro station and its a hidden wonder. Found this through a dineout offer and decided to go with family. The ambience was good and we were seated in first floor after we confirmed our booking. We started with sweet corn soup. And then moved to starters. Nothing special about the veg starters. But we were so much in love with their chicken seek kebab and chicken tikka. So yummy and soft. Also we tried fish fry. But the masala didn't get absorbed much in the fish. So most part was plain salty in taste. Also we loved the falooda and brownie ice cream. But all the items in menu were not available on that day. Cost wise the prices are fixed reasonably. And with a 50% offer, I sure hit the jackpot by finding this restaurant

We have ordered mutton meals and vegetarian biriyani combo. Enough quantity and taste is average. Price is nominal. They have played nice tamil songs and I really loved that. Good service. If they concentrate more on taste then it will become one of my favorite places. All should try once.

Good Multicusine restaurant. Kids friendly staffs.. Predominantly it's going to become a south Indian restaurant in future. They seldom use food Colors. most of the preparations were too liberal with salt... I tried few dishes and were just too good-- Parota, kaikari 65 . There's some wait time 12 - 20 min for order to be served and it seems to be reasonable. Overall a good ambience. Rating at 4 instead of 5 because of a little high salty preparation...other than that nothing to complain..
Ramamoorthy K
A new place that offers a varied menu, friendly service and sumptuous quantity with quality. And the prices are within limits too. Hope they keep it up once they pickup crowd.

I never eat a combo like here. It's been long time I thought and search for this kind of combination. Finally I found here. Hospital A1 and quality of food excellent. I love cheken and vatha kolmbu.... Overall this is must try hotel from my Hart. I love it :)

These guys were awesome. Kept the kitchen open late for us. A beautifully tucked in restaurant amidst the chaotic traffic right outside. The service was outstanding. The food quality could be better but the service outshined all of that. Definitely worth the visit. And yes, we got complimentary tickets to a movie since we dined more than a specific amount. 👍🏼

When I saw this page in Facebook, I decided to hit the place by this weekend, but when read about the mutton Kari dosa my taste bud was carving to taste it immediately, so went to the place today itself. Our order was: Aatukaal soup Chicken porithathu Vanjaram varuval Mutton Kari dosa Very limited menu but All tastes very good, flavorful, yummy and homely. The staffs are very courteous and good hospitality. Price is so competitive when compared to other restos around the place. And mainly it has very good parking space.

It was a different experience. Looking for a restaurant in Anna Nagar which is pocket friendly and has good combos with better quality? Well, you can blindly opt for this one. Not much crowded though, think it didn't get the reach it deserves. Spice crush, you earned a regular customer

Very good food and service. Would highly recommend it.

Please serve the fresh food. It's quite dry, reheated food. Got odd smell. But it's more quantity. Gave kesari sweet for free. Anyhow please try to provide fresh food.

Got to visit this place last week. If you love South Indian food , this place is the one !!! We ordered non -veg virundhu, I have to tell that each and every item on the plate was delicious , quite a lot of items .. even the veg items were delicious . The service deserves a special mention, people were extremely kind. The best service I have seen in a restaurant recently . Great job team !!!

Quantity appears to be bit less..Maybe that can be looked into...

Visited this place after seeing a good Zomato rating with my dad and husband. We had the fish, meat and vegetarian meals. The paruppu podi was incredibly delicious. Overall, the food was pretty darn good. The service was excellent.

Sunday evening. Prime time.. But a lil early.. V wer de first customers of de eve probably bcos of dis.. A 2 levelled restaurant wid decemt ambience...

The service was pretty slow even though v wer only present at dat time... But wat was disappointing was v got prawn fried rice instead of prawn and chicken fried rice.. T was changed by the management even before v realised dat.. V also ordered veg schezwan noodles.. V got chicken schezwan noodles instead.. T had to b replaced as well..

Coming to the food.. V ordered poricha kozhi and cauliflower 65 for starters... Gobi 65 tasted good while poricha kozhi was low on salt... The biryani was a disappointment and a fewer mutton pieces in the biryani only pushed the bad mood to a different height...

V wer given complimentary papads and rasan at the start as it s done for every customer and icecreams at the end which was exclusively fa us.. The ice creams were given because of the hiatus which happened den n der... It hardly hrlped though..

Starters : poricha kozhi, cauliflower 65
Rice and noodles : mutton biryani, prawn and chicken fried rice, veg schezwan noodles

Ambience - 3.5
Food - 2
Service - 2
Value for money - 2.5

Bottomline : no coordination.. Mayb bad time
Based on a couple of visits:

Whats Good in here?
1. Silver Ilai Platter - Must try it once!
2. Chicken Tikka - 6 pcs of delicious boneless chicken marinated well. Served with chutney.
3. Phulkas - Small and Soft.

What I didn't like it here?
1. Chappathi
2. Chicken Manchow soup
3. Chicken Fried rice - not cooked well.
4. Chicken Manchurian.
5. Special Chicken Curry.
Shreyas Kamath
Extremely courteous staff. Excellent chicken curry and crispiest prawn starter called Karu muru Era. These two are a must try. The hotel also greets every visitor with a tradition rasam drink which is sure to tingle your taste buds.
MADRAS FOOD JOURNAL
One of the best biriyanis in Chennai. Price is very reasonable and their service is awesome. Quantity is sufficient. Must try place for chettinad cuisine lovers. Pichi pota kozhi is so good and lip smacking . Restaurant ambience is clean and nice. Anna nagar people never miss this restaurant. It is located right next and behind the anna nagar tower metrorail subway. I am expecting combos from this restaurant in future which they previously had and currently they are not providing any combos which is a slight disappointment.

if you are looking to finish off your lunch at a reasonable price, its a decent one.

visited this restaurent yesterday for lunch, starting with complementary chips and carrot rasam ❤,biryani was not upto the mark, veg meals was good, chilli paneer is very good.

good ambience, friendly service, food is fine for the price.
Santha Kumar
I visited Spice Crush with my husband about ten days back and I am happy to say that we loved the experience. The location is great and the ambience also is welcoming .Carrot rasam as welcoming drink was a surprise and it was just the right balance of spices. we enjoyed it very much .The vadakams gave a homely touch. we ordered vegetable thali. Thali had a well planned menu and two desserts. Vajram fry was very good. Fried chicken was also good. The only complaint I have is about the sambar.compared to the veg restaurants sambar was milder and thinner. but my husband had no complaints on that score .We compliment the chef and the staff and wish them all success. I am planning to take my elderly mother one day .She would appreciate the keera kootu very well.

It's located near Anna Nagar metro. This restaurant has friendly staff and service is excellent. Also the Ambiance is really good.parking is available and Prices are also affordable.

Complimentary :
They serve rasam and vadagam as a complimentary. Rasam was completely like home made rasam.simply superb.

Ordered :
Mutton Kari dosa - Perfect Kari dosa with right amount of mutton . They served kulambu , coconut chutney and spicy chutney along with dosa. All of them were good

Chicken tikka - chicken was perfectly cooked and had medium spice. It was served with green chutney

At the end they served complimentary dessert Kesari which was amazing.

Overall : Great dining
Arun Raj
A budget place for casual dining. Dont expect varieties in the menu.

Vadagam and Rasam, was that an accompaniment, reminded me of being at home.

The starters were good, and the biriyani prepared in seeraga samba rice was aromatic.
However the kari dosa was not upto the mark, the dosa batter was not properly fermented.
VFM - 4.5/5

Residents of Anna Nagar - if you haven't yet visited this restaurant, you have no idea what you have been missing! This is a hidden gem, and on a short visit to Chennai we luckily found it on our first evening so were able to visit again having had such a great experience the first time.
The team that run this restaurant have tons of hospitality experience and it shows. Apart from the food quality, which I''ll mention later, it's all the little touches that show you this place is trying really, really hard to do it properly and better than the rest. Little touches like a small spicy drink when you are seated (like and amuse bouche) and a bowl of egg crackers. Little touches like the napkin holder is replenished with individually folded napkins. Little touches like copper lined water cups, which have a health benefit. Little touches like a banana leaf shaped metal plate to hold you actual banana leaf to avoid spills and mess. Little touches like a small manageable menu that is not too ambitious in terms of types of cuisine offered. Little touches like attentive staff that keep their eyes open and mind alert so you are not waiting when you need something. Little touches like the manager coming to every table to check on your food, and more - your overall experience. After two visits we feel like we have made a new fried in Madan, who if you take the time to chat, will impress you with his passion for this project.
Now the food - I can only say it is some of the best food we have had anywhere in India in six months of traveling. The more traditional dishes are fantastic (biriani, curry, idli etc) and they also have some more creative dishes that are well thought out and well executed - deep fried crispy prawns, kari dosa, ney parotta etc. Portion sizes are perfect and as a bonus, all very reasonably priced.
I wish we were staying longer so we could go again and try more menu items, but for sure we will visit when we come to Chennai again. Don't hesitate to visit - you will not regret it.
David & Dara

Ordered two Thalis and half the gravies are missing I hope this heavy price was not for only rice ...

Update: Restaurant duly took care of the concern pointed and Madan operations head ensured the same is sorted - they did deliver the gravy ,biryani and chicken starter themselves. Humbled by the way he ensured customer is not disappointed, it was a mess sorted well at the end of the day !

First of all ❤The service is really good ❤ The best service ❤ Ambience is really good ❤ the Biryani takes you straight to heaven ❤ The first spoon hits the spot ❤ PICHU POTA KOZHI is definitely a must try ❤ they serve you with rasam at starts and finish with a payasam at end ❤One of the best payasam i've ever had ❤

We had a pleasant experience when we went for lunch. We had reserved our table, and were greeted and shown our table immediately after we entered. Kids and I opted for mutton biryani and butter chicken biryani. Both were excellent. Husband and nephew ordered the kari virundhu and they said that it was very good. The kari virundhu came with mutton sukka and chicken 65 so we didn't order any more sides for biryani except pichupotta kozhi which was very nice. They served us rasam in shot glasses, which was excellent. Kari virundha had gulab jamun and payasam also. All of us were served payasam that day and kids were given gulab jamum. On the whole it was a very good experience and we saw that the dinner options were also excellent. So, will definitely be going back to Spice Crush soon.

Great food and service .Thier banana leaf meal is so nice ,reminds me of my grandmothers house in thiruchi, they had vandams in a basket ,followed by your meal on a banana leaf platter .one poriyal, kootu and one fry ,they also had a amazing thovayal to go along ,they served rasam in a tea glass ,super taste
Chicken curry was good ,mutton curry was just like home style with drumstick, and potato
Thier pichi poota kozhi was good
Overall a good meal and would love to come back again with more friends and family
Only disappointment was ,the place was a little warm for a hot day

I really loved the way how they showcased their restaurant. Talking about the food-delicious and superb. We ordered Lappa, Chicken Biriyani, Chicken and Prawn Fried Rice, Mutton Dosa,Poricha Kozhi. Biriyani was bit spicy, expect that rest all was good.
A good restaurant at the heart of blue star.

Their Kari virunthu sapadu. Is the must try food. Very very good ambience and hospitality at its best. People are so kind and hosting is nowhere before. Food is awesome. If you have a empty stomach this place is fill your stomach like hell. Best spot for food fanatics. Love it. Rock on guys.

I ordered 2 butter chicken biryani which was on offer through zomato for Rs 99/- each. It was the worst biryani that I have ever eaten. It was just some flavoured rice with a piece of butter chicken and a little gravy of the butter chicken. I have eaten their regular chicken biryani earlier and had liked it. But zomato and these restaurants are making a fool of us by giving such offers. Never going to trust any offers by zomato or any restaurants promoted by zomato

After reading the reviews I have booked an ola to reach this restaurant, The welcome was extraordinary.

The moment I asked for menu they have showed paper lying on the tabke.

Saiva virunthu:

A little better compared to Kari Virunthu, Karakulambu, poriyal and appalam are little better.

Kari Virunthu:

For God's sake please don't try this...

* Chicken 65 is so hard and smelly.
* Mutton chukka is the worst ever thing here.
* Egg (Day special) - Hahaha it was omelette, with much extra salt added to it.
Payasam - milk not boiled, less sweet.

For God's sake please don't believe in reviews for this restaurant.
Ordered butter chicken biriyani using zomato's offer @99, it is was definelty worth the money spent. Taste wise it needs improvement since it was more on the sweeter side but not something that you'll criticise. If u r bored eating the usual biriyani flavour, then give this one a try!
Gokul
The butter chicken briyani was a complete fraud. The chicken was undercooked and bland, the sweet that was supposed to be an accompaniment was disgusting. The paneer gravy was a grave disappointment. The wrong order was sent and to send the correct one they took almost an extra hour. Never going to order from this restaurant ever again.

I was there for the dinner and the experience was terrible. We waited for almost 35 mins to get 2 plates of Parotta with chicken curry. Atleast a courtsey to tell that the order will take some time would have been good... The kozhi pichupotathu ... not sure what to say... just see the pics... Need to improve a lot... probably not a good visit for me this time...
