Review Vasantha Bhavan - Chennai (Madras)

Ramakrishnan Rathinavel
I visited this restaurant with my family today while traveling back to Chennai. This is the first time experience with this branch of NVVB and it was good as well. This place was neatly maintained and the environment was good as well. We went for breakfast and the taste of the food was good as expected even though the quantity was less for the price charged. Mini tiffin and dosa items were good. The coffee tasted good as well. Overall the experience was good and anyone who is traveling via Egmore railway station can definitely try this place.

This is where u find authentic South Indian foods... I had tried vasantha bhavan in diff places... Even in Dubai... I enjoyed special signature in all the places... The rava dosa was amazing... After a long time i had a perfect rava dosa... I must say the coffee was exceptional.... 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 U can try the mini tiffen too... Must try place...

Opposite to Egmore railway station and is really clean and neat. Service was prompt and food taste was as well nice. Only thing that I didn’t like was mango milkshake which they prepared with ice cream even during the mango season. Ghee Pongal was nice.

Done lunch here during my visit in Chennai. Food was super. Me and my husband actually were looking for authentic South Indian food and found this restaurant just opposite to the Chennai Egmore Railway Station. We just kept our luggage in station cloak room and went there. The food serves to us fresh and warm. We took one meal and one business meal. Both were great. And at the last, we order Lassi, that was superb. Environment of the restaurant was very good. Have both AC and Non ac sitting area. As it was scorching May month summer time, we took seat in AC. It is purely vegetarian restaurant. Service was great. Highly recommended and appreciated. Vasantha Bhavan is now synonymous with the best of South Indian cooking. Apart from South Indian meal, they have other food options also like North Indian meal and so. But as were from North and went to South for vacation so our main focus was to explore more South Indian food. *History- Namma Veedu Vasanta Bhavan (Tamil: நம்ம வீடு வஸந்த பவன்) is a chain of vegetarian restaurants headquartered in Egmore, Chennai, India, started in 1969.

Very neat and tidy place to eat in the whole neighborhood. As it's just infront of the railway station, it is easily accessible for travellers who are in a rush. I recommend to have the masala dosa from this place. Make sure to ask for the Vada as it's have a crispy outer layer and fluffy inside. The customer service is up the top. You can also avail a clean washroom facility as it's hard to get such a place in the neighborhood.

Happy to see you all again! It was a pleasant morning we stepped in at 7 am. We got a person with face full of smiles to welcome us and give us hot and fresh breakfast. Me and my wife ate 3 idlies and one set poori contains 3 pieces. And also our all time favourite Filter coffee. If you are stepping down in egmore railway station you should try eating here. All the staffs(vengadesh) were friendly and good ambience. The pricing will be a bit high equal to anandha bhavan. Atleast have a coffee here! Bye bye :-)

I visited this restaurant with my family looking to have some South Indian food. The food were excellent. Ordered the Chennai thali, Business thali and VB special thali. We loved the food taste. Very nice hospitality by the staffs present. One guy named Chantu kumar Yadav and another staff was present who had very warm and nice behavior. I suggest to visit this place infront of Egmore railway station.

Had a short break at this restaurant to have dinner on my return from All India Radio by bus no. 27D, as the bus stopped right at the entrance of this hotel located on Gandhi-Irwin Road in front of Egmore Railway Station. A table was available for two people at this restaurant at around 8.15 pm in the evening. Consumed a plate of podi idli which had two numbers, but it was more on the spicier side. Then had a plate of plain Rava Dosa which was tasty. There are 4 Vasanta Bhavans on this road near Egmore Railway Station, but this appears to be the original one to me. This would be the appropriate place to have your food before/after travel to/from Egmore Railway Station, since it is close to the bus stop and Railway Station at Egmore.

This is one of the authentic south indian restaurants I have been. They have maintained the taste of south indian food typically as it is and i love this. The taste of the sambar dal is too good. Must visit.

This was the First restaurant i visited in my chennai trip. I wanted to have some basic south indian dishes & this place definitely satisfied my taste buds. I had sambhar idli & ghee roasted plain dosa.. Both were very tasty, not over spicy, not bland, just the exact amount of spices were there. The chutney they serve is absolutely delicious. The staffs were very polite. Loved the place so much.

Had a poor experience with this outlet. 6 of us were traveling by train in the morning. 2 of us went and picked up packed food from this place. Once we reached chengalpet we opened the packs. We were shocked to find that 3 set of pongal, 2 sets of Idly and 1 poori set were missing. There is no way we can go back and managed to buy some food from outside. I can understand if one set is missing, but so many items missing is not normal and it seems it was deliberately done by this outlet. Not a fair business practice. These guys were aware that we are traveling by train as we were talking amongst ourself about the travel. Absolute shocker from this so called leading brand.

Ambiance:
Unclean and I felt obnoxious. Deprived service there. No proper maintenance.
Food:
Plain Dosa- Tasted normal nothing special. Fine.
Paneer Noodles- Paneer is my fav choice but the food was too oily and could better be.
Overall Not worth for the high rated price😒
Resulted me changrin😩

Good food. A nice stop if your coming by Egmore. There are two outlets separated within a few 100 mts. The ambience and service could be better. But the food is simply delicious. I love the Dosa and chutney variety here.

This restaurant looks grand from outside but pretty disappointing inside. I had a masala dosa from this place today morning and it was below the mark, the tea served was not even hot.

Had a worst experience here. The waiter handed over me a menu card. I browsed through the menu and started ordering, when the waiter announce that nothing is available, except for Idly and Plain Dosa...All at 9 pm....Restaurant was not neat with sofas sinking in..Taste was just ok..

It is just opposite to the station. Since there was some buffer time to catch the train we visited this outlet. We had ghee dosa and panneer masala dosa. Both the dishes are good. The panneer masala had right amount of spicyness. Then we tried coconut malai which was tasty but the quantity was too less compared to the rate.

This is one of the worst restaurant that I have ever visited. Recently, had been to Chennai and had to take a connecting trian to Madurai. since had some buffer time thought of relisihing the Pongal dish, that I've been recommended by some of my south indian friends. It was around 6pm, that's when I had dropped in to this restaurant. I'd ordered for a Ghee Pongal. If you look at the menu above, it is written 54/-, which was the same when I saw and subsequently ordered.

But, when I went to pay the bill, the cashier, [ the worstest person I have ever seen, has a very bad attitude towards customers ], asked to me pay Rs. 65/-. I asked is it the taxes ? The reply was No. Then I told him "in the menu it is listed as Rs. 54/-, why do I have to pay 65/- "?. The reply was in Tamil, which I could not understand. I asked him " Jab menu mein 54/- likha hai to mujhe 65/- kyun dena pad raha hai "?. The he asked a person standing next to the counter to explain me in Hindi. The explanataion was " From Morning 6am - 10am, it is 54/- but after that it is 65/-". I told him " No where in the menu it is mentioned ". The cashier denied to accept 54/-. I finally gave him, 65/- and left the place. Atleast the waiter could have made me aware of the price, but he did not.

My experience after visiting this restaurant was, Absolutely NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, VERY BAD ATTITUDE SHOW BY THE CASHIER. I have made a commitment for myself that I will not visit this Restaurant ever in my Future visits to Chennai.

Even though, Ghee Pongal is my favorite dish, I would rather have it a different restaurant where the treat customer's with courtesy and dignity.

When you are in Egmore well before time, there is an option of having food outside the station. Vasantha Bhavan is one such option. But ever since Vasantha Bhavan became Namma Veedu Vasantha Bhavan I lost interest in this restaurant. In fact most of these Mid-Range restaurants have lost its sheen. There isn’t anything authentic about them. Even if the boards are removed and exchange with other restaurants or the same class we wouldn’t be able to find any difference.

This time we had Idly as usual which wasn’t anything special, Wheat Parotta which is best avoided as it was hard and not at all fluffy, Onion Oothapam and Onion Rava both of which didn’t contain fried onions. Don’t know when people are gonna learn how to make Onion Dosa.

Coffee at least should have been good but it was a blunder as it wasn’t hot. So there wasn’t any aroma or flavor.

#218. [24-Mar-15] :-

I always like to dine at Vasanta Bhavana@Arcot Road, Vadapalani for their nice ambiance & decent food. That was reason for me check out this outlet, even though it was surrounded by their competitors like A2B, HSB, HOT chips, etc..

This outlet is located opposite to the Egmore railway station, they also have branch just few metres away from this one. But only one outlet is listed in Zomato though. Since its located opp to station, commuters are their main customers. Parking is not available too.

They have two storey dining area, with an OK ambiance & not a great service. Items are reasonably priced & decent in taste. They also have 'Some items that we forgot' list from 4 pm, which basically our millet based items, which is a good initiative.

Very cute and small place which is the most crowded even though competitors are right next to them...
Pongal with sambar chutneys melts in the mouth.

Nice location as its right opposite to the railways station...
Never worry if u run out of tym and u didn't pack ur food at home as VB is located there and they provide exact the same home food at a very less price...
Staff is so helping they will even guide you to the gates if you are new to Chennai and VB has stolen my heart way tooo much :)

There are two of these near egmore station.. The new one is cleaner and more well lit than the old one.. The food is hygienic so no need to worry during your train travel . it'll not spoil your health.

Visited this place in the series of exploring authentic South indian cuisines. Got a very friendly waiter who not only educated us on various local dishes but also ways of eating them. Appam highly recommended, although coconut milk little sweeter than my liking.

I eat here once a week, the meals would be excellent. They give unlimited sides, which increases the nutrition level of our lunch. The thovaiyal here is the best I have ever had. Very prompt service which equals star hotels.
