Always there to serve the hungry and last minute decision
I love the mutton paya and appa for the breakfast, and a huge fan of Fish Biriyani of Hotel Runs, with the finishing touch of a perfect tasty Tea. worth for the price
I ordered a full grilled chicken and I was very happy with my experience. Firstly, I would like to thank the restaurant and the delivery boy for bringing home the order in just 22 minutes. The grilled chicken was soft and cooked well and alongside the grilled chicken ,I got 3 kuboos,3 types of sauces- Mayonnaise,Mint Chutney and hummus. I will definitely order again from the restaurant in the near future.
So this restaurant was my go to restaurant to order runs special chicken biryani and also their grill chicken. Their chicken special biryani has 65 pieces and the quantity is a lot, 2 people can easily eat well..! Their grill chicken is also nice, and their curries are also generous in portions and also in meat.
So visited this restaurant after a pretty long time and wondered how I missed to add a review for this restaurant :p
Had ordered chilly prawns - Good quantity, tasted great, but too many onions and capsicum.
Veg pulav - Good portions, enough for 2 people to eat well, tasted good
Mutton biryani - Tasted nice with good quantity of pieces and rice as well.
All in all this place is definitely a VFM place to head out to have great food. The prices are very economical considering the quantity they provide.
A good place to relish biryani when in that area, mutton Biryani or chicken special biryani. The meals are good too. .you can easily spot it as it is in the main road. Parking is not available, but there are lanes where you can park and walk a little. A compact place not for luxury dining but for biryani hunger. Price is reasonable. Service is quick and efficient.
Excellent Food at Excellent Price !!

Hotel Runs is a Kerala cuisine restuarant. I've been their customer for the last 5yrs and I liked most of their dishes. This review is about RUNS FISH BRIYANI 😋
The Fish Briyani was served hot, with well cooked rice & tasty seer fish pieces. The taste was really good & the quantity seemed more enough for me.
Why 4.0 rating is that, the time they take to serve the food or be it takeaway, they take atleast 20mins to serve the food, which can be reduced...
Had breakfast and lunch here non veg meals was good but apart from that you foodie people must try this hotel only for idly that much bigger and softer do visit for breakfast and try idly you ll love it
Ordered Kadhai Chicken with some Naans. Dish fared well on quantity and Quality both. If you are looking for some good spicy curry. This is the place !!

One of the best and must try places in Chennai to get best grilled chicken.
I have been to this place many times and every time when I have been there I used to buy this tasty grilled chicken.. It really tasted good and spicy and the chicken was correctly cooked and it was juicy too..
It's really worth for the money so I would like to give full 5/5 for this place especially for it's taste..

The one restaurant which am visiting for 7 years, they never lose a quality even once .. ambiance is pretty decent in the Ac hall in the first floor whereas in the ground floor will not be good for family. It is one of the of the pocket friendly restaurant, I prefer you go as a group of friends.
Their Special Parotta is worth a try 😎

Sunday dinner, wow from hotel runs. This place always amaze me with taste and quality of the food at pocket friendly rate. they have different big dining space with Ac and Non Ac option in the heart of city. I have visited this place more than 10 times and today i thought of ordering food and they delivered with exactly what i thought. The best item to try in their menu is Grill Chicken, Chicken Butter Masala, Butter nan, Chicken Fried rice and today i have ordered all and i am thinking what a taste and quality with the quantity thay always give. I am giving four star and looking forward to dine in again to get some interior photo so i can add here🤤

A simple no-frills place which gets its basics right! I have been here a few times, but that was many years ago. As I had some work in Adayar, dropped in for a quick dinner. Ordered 2 Parottas with Chicken Curry, a double Omelette and a Special Tea. Parottas were soft, chicken curry was very tasty, however, the chicken was too bland to my liking. I felt I should have ordered an egg masala and dry chicken dish instead.
Used to be a regular hang out place for me and a group of friends during college time... in fact all treats used to happen at this place... now don't go here very often as my wifey and lil one are pure vegetarians.....
But still manage to order food from here as I love their food as it has a little flavor of Kerala cooking....
always order their tandoori chicken... it is one of their best dish on the menu... their Chinese food even though doesn't taste like authentic Chinese restaurant but still love it... off late my usual order from this place is Kerala parrota and egg fry or masala... it will barely cost you 150rs and it is satisfying....
Recommend this place to people who have had a drink and want to eat some good non veg food... go to their AC section if you are going with your family.... an old place which still has held it's spot and caters a set of customers
Had ordered mughlai chicken biryani😍 its a must MUST must MUST have!!!!! Too yum. Loved it🍻and also d prawn biryani was good. The prawns were perfectly cooked.! D flavors are irresistible 💙

bit expensive. bought just one leg piece chicken for 160 bucks. taste was good
This one's been around for quite a while and it shows in terms of both the exceptional service and food.
The mutton Paya was out of the world. Tasted heavenly with the flaky, soft parottas! 😍
On the whole, Runs is one of those places where just under 200 bucks is enough to buy you a satisfying meal!

This one of the oldest names in Adyar ,the food till to date remains the same ,simple and tases good ,would like u guys try their appam and chicken curry and also their famous chilly chicken roast .briyani is average and now they have increased their prices ,a decent place overall.
Good service and good food and friendly staff today I went for hole my family have a great day and spend valuable time to my family in this restaurant
Ordered from Zomato delivery;butter chicken masala, butter panner, garlic naan and tandoori roti. Both the veg and non veg preparation was bit spicy, but the taste was good. The flat breads was soft and the portion size was fulfilling. The food was also delivered on time. The food had a very good quantity ; would love to try again.
All-time fav place. Do try their Grill chicken- one of the amazing grills I've ever had. Good quality non-veg meals also available at good price. Cant spend a lot of time on the ground floor, but you have the AC hall above just in case.
Well you surely have to run (jog) a lot after eating here in RUNS 😀😀😀 bcos you can't stop eating here..taste was fantabulous!!! pls try everything in the menu week after week as I can't think of one particular dish to recommend. we were regular customers here when we were in Chennai.
A nice place to have non-vegetarian breakfast. Idyappam with mutton paya - the best dish ever. Service is good and fast. Taste is awesome. Will be good, if parking facilities are improved
Food quality and quantity very perfect ,silent place ,staff are very good. Gravy very large portion good enough for 3person ...compared to other hotel best for money and good food
A simple place with best food in town.Runs special chicken briyani and kerala chicken a great combo. Ambience is not upto the mark . They specialise in Kerala cuisine.
Classic place just below the bridge on the main road of Adyar that you just can’t miss!
Growing up, the name RUNS always gave us a laugh and being vegetarians, we were never really tempted to give this place a try.
The grown up phase changed all that though. This is the first place that comes to mind while having chilled beer with friends in the terrace!
Do not remember much :P but that doesn’t matter as their chicken and the variants of the chicken they have are nothing short of delicious! The cold beer/hot side dish combo is something everyone would enjoy and this is one such place which gives you the fullest of enjoyment.
On a negative note, when we pay the bill and imagine about the hot stuff coming in, they disappoint you in providing the basic essential TISSUES! This has again been conveyed to everyone in charge and they never seem to get this right. Oh, and also they can’t provide spoons for a gravy chicken dish. How thoughtful. These small things can definitely be rectified for a longer relationship.
The food is delicious and the delivery time is less as well.. Must try for everyone who wants some good non-veg food around adyar, chennai.one problem with them is that they lack consistency. Three times I ordered tandoori as well as grill chicken and one time it was quite bad and not properly fried. Nevertheless its worth a try.
Don’t know why this sudden fixation on this restaurant started. This is the place I used to get up after deep sleep in bus, while travelling home from office. But never really felt like going. Part of the reason could be attributed to the fact that I was thinking it to be a vegetarian restaurant, thanks to one of my cousin who told me otherwise.
We ordered Parotta which was awesome and soft, thanks to Vikram Vedha, ordered a Nalli curry but it wasn’t the typical Nalli curry, still the stew was great, Appam was the usual, Kuska too was nice with good quantity, Veg Fried Rice was average, may be extra salty, Prawn Masala was awesome, complemented with almost all the dishes. Tea was the best in the end.
So in all it was a fruitful experience and we were thoroughly satisfied.
It's better to order in than to go there and eat as the ambience isn't that good. You gotta try the roast chicken, grilled chicken and prawn biriyani. Pricing is reasonable. Service is quick. Not sure how hygienic it is though.
Their mayo is very good and a must try.
The best barbecue chicken one can have. And their garlic mayo is legendary. A small and cheap place. A go to place for students who live in the nearby areas
Simply amazing food. Some people go here for the nostalgia. Great value for the price. And the 90s ambience cannot be recreated on purpose.
It's a unique cuisine from the times when all the non-veg restaurants in Madras where from the Kerala Kaakas. Almost every other restaurant in Madras was 'High class veg'.
Go order the amazing appams, awesome payas, wheat parotas and mutton curries. Ordering noodles here or complaining about the ambience is missing the point entirely.
Mutton paya with parotta tastes nice at a decent price.. millennials may not appreciate the restaurant for the ambience but the taste of the food is nice and authentic
This place has been in existence ever since u remember. I have always loved the idiyappam and egg kurma here. This time I tried chicken kurma instead and was definitely delighted to eat it. I tried chicken shawarma roll and that was pretty good too! Ideal place for non-vegetarians
This place is been operational for close to 20 years (in my knowledge) And this is hands down one of the best places.
Located on the left of the Adyar bridge (towards saidapet) on the touch down, its pretty easy to find. 🛣️
And parking for 2 wheelers🚴 are easy.. But not for those with 4🚖🚘
This is where i had mutton samosas for the first time and been hooked till then.
Other favourites being barottas and special Briyani, one can just reply on them all day everyday!!
The side dish part of the menu is not been their fortay😑
There is A/c as well normal operational on two floors.
Overall a perfect place for almost any occasion where good food is the main concern.🙌🙌
Ambience - Good
Service - On the slower side ⏱️
Taste - Reliable
Reasonably priced resturant. Food is very tasty and has lot of non-veg varities. Location is very busy hence would advise take aways. Ambience is not that great.

One of the oldest hotels in the city.. we love being here coz of the family rooms in the ground floor. The biriyani which served here is look like Ghee rice and less spicy. The food is okay. The grilled tastes wonder..
The chinese dragon chicken is full of onions so not worthy for ur money...
An old place and anyone from Adyar will know this place. It's not a great place but the Chinese here is good.
A moderately priced place and a place with decent ambience. Parking can be a challenge.
Two days back myself & my friend went to Hotel Runs, Adyar. We ordered idiyappam, appam & Chettinad Chicken. The waiter told to taste new item Spicy Chicken Fry and he supplied with a plate. The taste was awesome like lollypop.
Been here for a Lunch. I sat in non air conditioned area. This place was crowded at that time. I had to share the table with a random person. Ordered Poratta, Naan's and chicken masala. Taste was good. Curry quantity was also very good. It costed 190 for me. Price is Slightly on the higher side. If they can improve ambience a bit they can justify the price.
This rating is for breakfast only. Haven't reviewed their lunch or dinner items.
After one power packed session of swimming at Anna university, we thought of breakfast. The huge appetite generated by the activity can be satisfied only by some good hot parottas with Mutton Paya I said.
But once we reached here, we changed our mind from Parottas to - 2 Egg dosas, 2 Half boiled eggs, 2 set Idiyappams & Mutton Paya (obviously)
Ahh, The food man, Everything was piping hot, dosa was fresh out of the stone, The Paya with the mutton legs was a perfect combination to the dosas and the idiyappams. They refill the gravy as much as we want them to. You can also try the Chicken Kurma there, I have tried it before and tastes awesome too. The place was buzzing with breakfast regulars at 830 in the morning. The combination of idiyappam, half boiled eggs, and the mutton paya made us forget all around us. I mean this is one of the quietest breakfast me and my friend had. Not a word spoken.
Everything set us back by 360 bucks. Which I think is pretty normal given the taste.
Hotel Runs for Breakfast? No second thoughts. Yes.
Crossing this old restaurant each n everyday but never dropped in , made me eager to try their dishes , that one fine day was today
Had their iconic grilled chicken , omg -it was to die for , the best grilled chicken I have had in my life till date , chicken biryani was usual and worth the money paid. Very simple restaurant .
One of the oldest restaurants in chennai. My dad used to say about their awesome briyani's .. Ambience is ok, they have both Non AC(ground floor) and AC(first floor), gloomy AC section. Briyani tasted good. Reasonable price. Good service.
Hotel runs has been in my bookmark for long. I've been here once but that was long ago. So I decided to make another visit.
I had ordered hot and sour chicken soup. Soup tasted good but there were big chunks of chicken.
The second item I ordered was Runs Special Chicken Biryani. The Biryani was full of surprises. It had boneless chicken 65 pieces, cashew and raisins. The raita was good with thick curd. The brinjal gravy was thick and perfect. Overall, the Biryani was nice, with good number of soft chicken 65 pieces. But on the downside, the rice was too red and it tasted like tomato rice.
Food: 3.5/5

Runs hotel is very famous for old restaurant in chennai, which is located easy spot at adyar road , a decent place for casual dining, with average ambience, coming to the food, we ordered paya masala ,aapam, idiyappam, paratha, egg podimas, mutton chops ,food was served hot and quick also the quantity is generous , but i dint feel anything special about their food taste🙁.. Dunno may be due to my over expectaion about their signature dish paya or their food quality has lost.. coz the Food was just average .. I would suggest This place is for quick dine in with reasonable price
Service:3.5/5

Last day myself and frnds visited here for a breakfast.the front and ambiance was so old model and we orderd
1.mutton paya
2.mutton kuruma
3.poratha
4.aapam
5.idiyapam
The food was ok not too good but if depending price it s good enough.bt my opinion is the taste was decreasing day by day coz last 2 month before i had from here that time the taste was superb thats way only i suggested this restaurant to my friends. So plsss take care about the food ....
If u expect ambience.. This is not the place..went along with colleagues as a group
.ordered tandoori chicken..grill chicken.. Mutton biriyani..prawn biriyani.. Chicken Hyderabad biriyani..naan and garlic naan..chicken masala..panner butter masala..naan was good..panner butter masala tasted like panner dropped in tomato ketchup ..very sweet..tandoori was good..grill was okay..biriyani all were good.. Naan was soft..pocket friendly..would definitely recommend
A decent restaurant located in a prominent spot in town. Very easy to spot.
Once you enter, you might find a gloomy place. But don't judge the place already. There are better seats upstairs with AC too.
Ambience is decent.
Food is really good. Especially patotta with any gravy will be very nice. Was served hot and was tasty. Prawn Biriyani was a slight let down.
But for every dish, quantity is way beyond what you would imagine for the price. More than worth the price.
Good desserts are also available.
I find this restaurant as an ideal place to take a big gang of friends when they are bugging you for a treat.
Easily locatable on the Adyar Road.
Has two sections, AC/ Non AC.
Doesn't have much of an atmosphere but a nice place.
We ordered Grilled Runs Chicken full, Keema Nun and Mutton Roganjosh. Well the Grilled Chicken was really good and so was the Keema Nun. Well filled and heavy. The Roganjosh could have been a bit dry and one piece extra chicken but okaish.
Plus, it's not that expensive.
So, good for North Indian food in Chennai. Can be tried.
Desperate to get some beef, we run around from Kuttanad to Kumarakom on a Sunday afternoon. Long queues and no availability and acute hunger mad us to make choice to sacrifice beef and go for a regular Kerala cuisine restaurant. So we head to Hotel Runs, situated very much in prime Adyar territory. The ground floor having a fast order-serve-eat-leave ambiance and the first floor having a slightly better one.
Ordered mutton pepper soup which was hot and spicy with nice mutton pieces with corn. The tomato with egg drop soup was pleasantly sweet, super rich in taste and came in good quantity also. For starters, we ordered a Dragon fish. Well, here is the irony. It was made sort of dry for a starter and garnished using onion, cashew nuts and citrus fruits. But it came in quantity that could shame a main course. But it tasted delicious nonetheless despite having a lot of onion in it.
For the main course we wanted to try a biriyani, having missed Kerala biriyani badly. What we got was – no offence – the Tamil Nadu version of fish biriyani. No debates on which is better etc, but knowing this is run by a house of mallus, expected the chef to make Kerala style food. That was a genuine disappointment. The egg fried rice was decent though and wen well with hakka chicken. There was wheat porotta and chilly fish too which were pretty good for me.
To top everything off, we wanted a simple sweet lime soda and it met our expectations well. So a wonderful place to visit to have genuine good food. Don’t complaint about the ambiance or lack of theme or lack of facilities. This place was meant to serve good food and it does that almost very well at reasonable rates too. Kudos from me!
The Best Hotel for all mallus.!! Great flavour and great taste... Friends do visit :) Its an great hotel to hang out with friends , preffered A/C room :)
Runs Grilled Chicken is my family's favorite one. Its economical and having family cabins in the first floor with well ventilation. Serving people are friendly. Over all good place to visit. I am not a Good GOURMET but i am having good taste buds and it was satisfied by runs recipes.
Went here with friends during evening time. Nice and quite place. This place has set the standards for how good mutton items could be done! It's been almost a year since I had mutton items here and still have to find a restaurant that beats its taste. Paneer items were really nice as well.
Good place to have Paratas espically special paratas and Naan, butter chicken, one of my fav restaurant in Adyar. The ambience is very normal...Must try!!!
good value for money, typical restraunt in that category. you can except it to be a fine dine but the orders are lightningfast, good spicy tate and local chennai food for a casual or unplanned visit.
Runs is my all time favourite joint to have Parotta and Mutton Chops.. when im typing this, it makes me revisit my childhood days.. Im overseas now but still the taste hasn't changed a bit.. the restaurant is as old my late grandfather who used to take my mom and uncle for their evening tiffin...my mother then took me there.. for the past 27 years I have been eating there... whenever I reach Chennai, the first thing in my bucket list is to have Runs Parotta and Chops by default... oh god I miss having it now... I crave for it very badly... All the best HOTEL RUNS....
Great place to order from when you are hungry and want to eat on a budget. We at The Asian College of Journalism would gorge on the indo-chinese chicken dishes and also rotis and dal.
I'm eating food here for past 20 years. Quality and taste still remains same. Chicken Biriyani and vanjaram fish fry is all time favorite. Recently tried fish Biriyani. It's just awesome. Every time I ll go with my grandfather. :)
As people say do not judge the book with its cover. If you are going there you must eat the malabar parotta with kadai panneer and mushroom masala. Its a wonderful place to go to fill your stomach and to eat with satisfaction.
Its a value for the buck.
Best special Paratas & butter chicken. The place is not that lavish. It's for single people and prefer not take families. They do have a AC family place on top but no fun in that.
I am not rating this 5 for any other reason than the fact, it served more edible food than our hostel and it was quick getaway from the inedible food served at the hostel.. For 3 long years we have gorged as many as 100 butter chickens / chilli chickens with parantha. never experimented beyond. Always came out with red fingers due to the color added in the butter chicken.. but it is a pure nostalgic place than anything else. Today if I go there is purely for the pleasure of unwind and remember the place where we sat and had the food.. I must admit in life this probably will rate as the highest visited place. Today the food is just about ok..
Runs Adyar fits the description of 'good old place'.This is not a fancy place and its not wise to dive in if fancy is what you are looking for.On the contrary if you are a food aficionado you are in the right place.Right from breakfast to dinner they serve a culinary delight.Their paya, chicken biriyani, mutton samosas, grilled chicken & seafood would make you come over & again.Even the humble Runs chai is a personal favourite.Run on Runs!!:)
I am quite the regular patron here. I rarely ever eat in though, but the ambiance is reasonable especially the first floor air-conditioned space. The staff are also nice and cordial. If it is really crowded, sometimes the food gets a touch delayed. But nothing too much to complain really.
I usually order take out. The Runs Special biriyani is a favorite of mine. It is superb but for maybe the color they put in it. Taste wise, one of the best I have had in Chennai.
Being a mallu place, it also has good idiyappams, appams and porottas. The runs special chicken masala goes well with all of these. Chicken kuruma is also nice.
The Chinese side leaves me a bit disappointed. But again, it's not bad especially the fried rices. I haven't really tried the fish items here.
Last but not the least, it's quite pocket friendly given it's location and the quality of food they serve.

This restaurant is quite decent place to have good non vegetarian food. This place is located on main and the billboard cannot be ignored. The place has limited parking and can be congested if crowded. They have 2 floors the ground floor is non AC and first floor is AC. The staff is well trained and quick to take order and serve it .
The food quantity is quite good keeping in mind that this place is pocket friendly. The food quality is good and justify the crowd this place is attracting.
Good Place to have decent lunch or dinner with friends and family
The only proper Arabic restaurant around here. I think the management is Kerala people and you can expect that quality in the food. The staff behaviour is super good. And they have family space on the first floor which can accommodate upto 50 people. Parking is available for bikes and cars in front of the restaurant not sure whether they have separate parking available.
Excellent ambience and lovely foods to your taste buds. Very friendly serving staffs. Slightly high pricing but could afford for the quality and taste. You could have a fine lunch with friends and family here. Parking is only concern. Most of the times street parking only. If you are coming from car, think about parking first and food next.
This hotel has opened after long gap of 2 years of Covid, it is one of the stand out restaurants in adyar area
What is good about hotel
•Staff are courteous
•Food is tasty and delicious
•You get variety of middle eastern and Arab •cuisines along with South Indian tinge
•Portions are sumptuous One cant finish alone
Ambience is good
What i would suggest the management is to get your upholstery cleaned.
The food was really good here, the taste was excellent with almost every dish we tried.
They could a better job with the service. The person taking the order did not see be patient and interested in taking the order.
Would have give 5 if not otherwise.

Happy to see very old traditional hotel , in new look. Dishs are great, Over all value for money
.Over all this is my dream place when I was school, now seeing in great shape. wish the team all the best to reach great height.
We visited the place with our office team. It was a great food experience. 1 Biryani quantity is enough for 2 members. The starters and main course dishes were the limelight of the place. Good service was also a plus point of the place.
A good old Adyar’s sugnature restaurant got renovated and back to life. This place is well suited for family guests. cheap and best hotel in and around Adyar. The place is well known for their biryani and parotta. And they are maintaining these dishes taste since many years.
Must try spot for its price and taste if you are visitng Adyar.

This is wonderful place for non veg. This is the hotel being there from my child hood even before that. The real Arab type grilled chicken is being prepared here which of totally amazing and these management are really sticking with their promise to give tasty food. Ambience wise it's good not as like high class restaurant but it's more than mid level look.
Had barbeque and mutton biriyani. Barbeque was awesome... Briyani was average. No car parking.. have to park below the bridge and walk for a few meters
Food quality remains the same as like before, nice restaurant
The taste and quality has remained unchanged over the years . We had garlic Nan, Chettinad chicken , kerala chicken dry and mutton biriyani for lunch. All good. Washed it down with Chai.

A very good restaurant near Adayar bridge, it is a hidden gem far better than many other restaurants near adayar. We had friends outing and ordered few starters and main course, Their mutton biriyani was top notch and mutton chettinadu gravy even we enjoyed starters like chicken 65, fish finger and nethily fry but don't miss their mutton biriyani and their quantity is too good for the cost .
Please avoid naan, prawn gravy and fried rice as it tastes very average but the quantity is too good.
I will recommend this hotel for sure for five adult it costed 2300rs.
Parking is very small and can accommodate only three cars better go at early brunch at 12.30 to avoid rush and parking issues.
