Review A2b Adyar Bhavan - Chennai (Madras)

Food was delicious and served hot. We loved their IndoChinese. Szechwan fried rice, paneer 65 and stuffed Kulcha were delicious.

Little crowded. Not comfortable for 5 people on that small table. The food taste was good. Service was good. We can go there for a quick bite.

I believe this is the first place that was started of this food giant. A very good place for family and friends with a great ambiance. They are maintaining the same quality as it was years ago. Located at the heart of Adyar. They have Cafe type settings on the first floor, and in the ground floor normal restaurant. Overall good experience and good staff.

Visited this restaurant with my superior for having snacks in the evening. Too much of crowd on that time. There is no seperate parking for this restaurant. You can park the vehicle on the road side itself. As it is too crowded place it is taking some time to deliver our ordered food item. My superior had a bav bajji and I had filter coffee ☕. Nice smelling from bav bajji and the filter coffee was too hot and the aroma of the same is wonderful. Strongly recommend this restaurant for your hungry hours. You can also buy vegetables in the vegetable shop which is inside this restaurant.

Visited today and it’s my second time. We ordered for mini lunch called as mini meals. A huge hall welcomes you where with dividers you find seaters to sit. Table service is so fast and on time, that the time gap between order and service is just minutes. My order had one Poriyal, kalandha saadam, curd rice, sambhar rice, pickle, pappads and sweet. The counter is for takeaway besides they sell yummy sweets and savouries while a/c hall is inside. There is a separate counter to collect takeaways and I loved their simple well lighted ambience. A place to stop by in MG road at Adyar.

As usual taste is fine... No complaints about the taste of kesari... But I don't think it's worth for the money... Other snacks we had was taste wise price wise ok. Ground floor bit congested and sounds like market... For us service was good. But nearby table were waiting for long time... Few employees enquired about the orders to them .... Still no one really took the order... Senior employees not so friendly with junior employees ( rude and shouting) .... Apart from this , as usual happy with the food.

Very tasty food, serving hot. Neat and Clean. Good ambience huge parking area too. Variety of sweets and savouries available.

The place is pretty crowded on the ground floor. If you want a quiet Atmosphere to enjoy with family then head to the first floor. It's quaint and quiet and away from the hustle bustle. This outlet is near the Adyar Bus depot and is a quick 2-3 minute walk from here. It's a perfect spot to chill after a bus travel or just chill after a busy day. On weekdays the ground floor is crowded but the first floor isnt. I ordered the cheese pavbhaji which was a bit low on quantity but tasted good. The lemon soda was also good. Overall a good experience.
Abhishek Anand
The taste is good, food is good but quantity is an issue. Dosha and other items like idiyappam are not available during lunch.
Open Doors
A great place for those who wish to eat in an authentic vegetarian South Indian food. People from the North too find some great dishes. Don't miss to visit Sweets & Snacks stall operating from inside.

Food full marks, Atmosphere and Services needs fantastic and needs small improvements.

A2B is an amazing place for sweets, savouries and chaat items. Even the south Indian tiffin is very tasty here. It's always a family favourite I'm sure not just for us but for everyone. Its become a tradition to shop here occasionally and especially during festivities. It gets really crowded due to the popularity and it's products but it's worth the hassle. Also they keep stocking the items so they are never sold out.
Sandeep Varma
Ground floor serves only mini meals and South Indian snacks. We went to the 1st floor, ordered mini meals, mushroom pepper fry and palak paneer. Great taste of the food, good ambience, fast service. If you want to have good meal and are short on time, it's a good place to visit.

Located in the prime area, vegetables, sweets and savouries at ground floor with dine in facilities. Good crowd in the evening. A dine-in restaurant at the first floor serving North Indian, South Indian, Chinese varieties opens after 7pm in the evening. The ambience was good but still the lighting can be improved like it's sitting in the dark. Coming to the food is not the worst not the best. Chilli parotta was nice a little sour taste felt due to the oil, can be considered to improve otherwise good. Paneer Tikka is excellently soft and easy to scoop with a spoon. Mushroom biryani was good. Rates a little higher it's felt but can be confident of no side effects. That's great.
Abhijith :
Pretty good. The service was prompt. The servers were nice and quick to respond. Had paper roast which was really good but huge. Definitely try their Ghee Roast First time, I got stale chutney but, the servers quickly replaced it with a new one with no argument
Lovesh Pareek
The food was amazing. Service was a little bit low. We tried the unlimited meal. Most of the vegetables were finished so I couldn't get extra but had additional sweet served.

In my Zomato orders if I order 6 plates of chappathy I get side dish for only 4 plates...this is a regular occurrence in this hotel...

Awesome place.
A best place for South Indian. ✨
Ambience 10/10
Taste 10/10
Service 10/10

Best place for Idli lovers. Very good and spacious
Restaurants with a vast availability of food.
Mini meals is my all time favourite in A2B . We get Chapati , kurma , Kesari, sambar rice, mixed rice, poriyal, pickle, papad, curd rice. All dishes were yummy except curd rice as it was like milk rice. Must appreciate the quantity and quality they are still maintaining. Must visit this place

Mini Tiffin is an amazing one. A2B has never failed you to amaze you - be it with taste, quality or quantity.

As you could see here, this package has two types of Chutney, Sambar as side dish. They tasted really good. Kesari was nice.

You would also get a mini masala Dosa, one idly, one ulundu Vada & little quantity of Pongal.

These are really filling to your stomach. Do not miss it.
Willington Gnana
Very good looking restaurant in a very good location in velachery. Its a big restaurant consists of a small size market too

I have ordered a Nei Roast Dosa n Coffee. The coffee was very good but the taste of Dosa was average. This chain has a very good taste. Three Chutnies n Sambhar was served

The quantity of side dishes were less. Dosa n Coffee was good quantity. The rates compared to Market were high. Need improvement on staff service
Jude Santhosh
South Indian Thali meals is simply delicious. Nice variety of curries and veggies are their speciality. Quality and quantity along with reasonable pricing makes it great restaurant. However, their tag line can be modified. It says HIGH CLASS veg restaurant.

Zomato, Why don't you have Zero rating. Worst hotel of the century. Service was very poor. Particularly the self service. They will not care about people who is standing with the bill. They will busy with parcel and other stufs. Staff behaviour worst to the core, starts with bill counter to table cleaning.

You are not offering the food for free of cost. mind the customer. Without them you are nothing. NOTHING.

I would like to rate your restaurant with ZERO. But the damn zomato doest have the option though.
Rachel's Palate Tales
Of all the A2B outlets, I have been to so far, I found food here, the best. The restaurant could be well located from the main road itself and has parking facility. It has a large space for dining and separate sections for sweets & savories and a place where you could buy fresh vegetables and fruits as well. Self service and table service sections have been segregated. Our order was for Dahi papdi, Choley Bhature, Masala Dosa and coffee. Usually the chaat items doesnt taste too good in many places but we really liked the chaat here.
Prasanna Thiyagarajan
Go for the self service. Never sit at the serviced area, the waiting time quadruples. As the food selection is same across their restaurants, I am not getting into details. I have liked all their south indian selections, and chats. Not too fond of their north indian or chinese selctions - seems to come with too much food coloring and soy and seasoning overload. Go for anything South Indian and you won't regret. Pretty big dining area, which I prefer as I sometimes feel claustrophobic at smaller places. I would have gone for 4 stars, but had to pull back due to their poor service.
Aksshay Sainath
Had Ghee Dosa over here. I choose the self service counter. The dosa came within 10 minutes. It was a tall cone shaped dosa. I could smell ghee all over the dosa. The aroma coming from the dosa was just to great. the dosa was crispy and tasty with full of ghee. There was sambhar, coconunt chutney and mint chutney. this place is very good for south indian food

This is the best Restaurant chain for South Indian Food. Place is amazing and it serves the complete variety of The food. The Dosas are great and are of same quality everywhere and at every location of the Outlet. I have eaten at lot of outlets and the taste is constant everywhere. The best thing to try here is their filter coffee and Their dosas. I personally liked the Rava onion masala dosa which is a treat to your taste buds. Ghee idli is amazing too. The chutneys that they is on another level. They taste soo good that you can have your dosas just with those chutneys and you won't feel a thing. The Rava dosa melt in your mouth and they are yummy. The best south Indian food I ever ate is at this place. I have started to love South Indian food after being to this place and would recommend this to every individual to try this awesome restaurant and you will definitely love it.
AISWARYA SATHEESH
Sweeetsss.the best sweets are available here. Good and hygienic.they are the go to place for authentic south indian food if you are an outsider.

Weekends is a big no.. it's like ration shop.. where no one is listening you and you have to wait for long. They know people can't have many choices because of huge population we live in. They take benefit of it. Although Pallikaranai branch is good.
Meenakshi Mahesh
Mornings after 10 please don't go for dosas. The batter was extremely sour. Actually after 10am nothing else is available other than dosa or puri. And the rest room had such an awful strongggg smelling toilet cleaning solution that I had severe nausea so many times by the time I could wash hands. Face went pink.

It's my 4th time in this place. I came here basically lunch time. Here food test is good . it's too much croud bcoz of les price. Service is slow. I understand the service people are so tired they are working long hours duty .all the best
Abhishek Murali
The staffs have really bad attitude. They had not taken order for more than 15 minutes. The plates and spoons were not clean at all and came with water on it. Will never come back.

A bright Sunday Monday and an urge for South Indian food led us to A2B. I have never seen any A2B outlet so empty without people (guess that has to do with the time I visited), that it made the place look huge.

A quick dose of super soft idly arrived first, with triple chutney and sambhar. Masala dosa followed – crispy and yum, accompanied by chutneys and sambhar. And at last a heavenly crisp vada followed with cocnut chutney and sambhar. Filter coffee to top it all and that was a satisfactory breakfast. No complaints.

Hygienic pure vegetarian restaurant in Chennai
A lots of times i have visited Adyar Ananda Bhavan vegetarian restaurant in many branches in Chennai. They serve variety of cuisine dishes like South Indian foods, North Indian foods, Chinese foods and also they serves varieties of sweets like Bengali sweets, Milk and ghee sweets and dry fruits sweets and so on.

All dishes are highly pure vegetarian and its taste was good. It's well pretty ambiance.
Each and every time i noted they handled and served the foods with proper manner.
This vegetarian restaurant looks like hygienic restaurant.
Food price was reasonable.

A2B is great in taste n quality.
All their sweets n tiffin n meals are good but over priced i feel.
Evening spl items will be out of stock mostly(4-7 they say but not available at 5)...which is a great setback.
Velachery A2B service is worst when compared to other outlets.
such a big dining hall but servers will not be attending us for the first 20 mins.
Parking is again a mess in the evening time.

Ambience 4
Service 2
Quality 4

A2B food is amazing as always. A little pricey though. Love their thalis .. sweets and snakcks are also good. Worst parking. Especially for cars. Horribly bad during peak hours .
Shravan S
Food is good. But the service is poor. The plates and glasses are unclean and there are no spoons! Good food doesn't compensate for poor service and unhygienic dining conditions!
Guna Seelan
Ate Noodles,Mushroom friend rice and Biriyani. All cost 160 but Very less in quality and quantity.A2B is just the brand.Normal food served in AC room with high rate. You can better starve than eating here.
Sowmiya Karthik
My all time favourite veg restaurant is A2B , . But this time totally disappointed.. We ordered veg pulao and mushroom manchurian.. actually I love veg pulao of A2B from its S.Kolathur branch ( Pallikaranai) .. in Velachery the pulao was with too much oil and I could see white rice here and there and mushroom manchurian was drenched in oil and we were unable to chew it & when I complained , the Person is saying it will be like that only if you want you should say that you want food with less oil. I am wondering whether all of us loves to eat food which is drenched in oil 🤔..
Somasundaram Palaniappan
Visited A2B with family for a Saturday dine out. Weekend had its own usual population. The taste was at its usual best. So no comments on that.

Giving 2 stars since we were totally disappointed with their service. Servers were primarily from North India and were quite messy with the orders. Found it quite difficult to handle with them, despite being vocal in Hindi. They deliver our orders to other tables and other orders to our tables. Was able to see clearly that they were unable to manage food and people around.

I can understand it's a Saturday Eve, but expecting A2B to keep up their name. Request A2B to increase their service levels so that customers get satisfied for the bills they pay.

Thanks !

To review this restaurant chain in one sentence: Great sweets but the food isn't worth it.
One of those places I stay away from and would recommend to others for food. Initially, the place had some decent food, even long before the famous scandal about this chain broke out. But later it got bad. I don't think the place is worth it for the food.

However do get the sweet varieties. They're always great!

A small recommendation to this chain: Please try to bring more varieties of North Indian Sweets in the future that are hard to get in Chennai. I'm awed by the variety of different sweets that they have in North India whenever I go there. I'd be great if you bring them to Chennai without letting go of Tamilnadu/south Indian sweets!

The A2B food delivery is great and tasted good. Good vegetarian food.
Delivery is better than sitting experience. It is always crowded. Better order from home and have it relaxing at home/office.

I tried Pav-bhaji and the taste was good. Ambiance is fine. Very reasonable rates, so not to worry on the budget part. Service is okay. Overall it’s good!

Assorted Special Milk Sweets (1 x ₹125) ₹125 has got billed but we never received the item. Our kids got disappointed and we are so disappointed that we have still not heard from zomato with regard to the refund of it.
The resolution process is so cumbersome that we initially had to call the delivery person, who says he is not sure what is inside the packing nor did we at the time of receipt. He directed us to contact A2B and the person who we speak to re-directed to Zomato.

I am unable to find the chat services for Zomato and raise dispute by emailing on the portal. We are not looking for an acknowledgement here. If the time for resolution was reasonable, Zomato could have sent us the missing item, the same day. If it should be beyond, they should have returned our money and allow us buy our item elsewhere.

This is continuation of a nest leaving ceremony that began yesterday that started in The Madras Diner and culminated today at the A2B here.

A traditional south indian meals was the consensus. The restaurant can only boast acreage. The food on the other hand is like any other hotel Bhavans that are out there.

The fine dining section is a glorified a/c version of the same restaurant. Not that it is fooling anyone.

Ordered lunch from here on a weekday. Northindian meal which we ordered was very nice. It was nicely packed and had a good variety too. All the dishes tasted very good. The breakfast items are yummy too. The khichdi was very yummy. All the dishes that I have tasted here are very good. Overall a very nice place for south Indian as well as North Indian dishes.

This is a great place if you can brave the traffic of Vijaynagar junction.
I go here for chaats in the evening. They have separate seating area for chaats and juices.
Bhel puri and Paani Puri over here are among the best! Don't miss out on the Chocolate milk shake here.

Whenever we feel like south indian food...This is obviously the go to place.. because they never disappoint with the food..😁😁❤️👍

An extremely eternally crowded outlet in the heart of Velachery...With spacious parking and eating space...Serving everything from authentic tasty food,Indian snacks, fresh juices, chat items..😁😁👍

Their service line is great everyone is so attentive and focused. One suggestion if so would be to train their non tamil workers as they are not aware of the language and the menu.☺️

The standard and quality of food is top level. Nothing much to write as their brand is well known for their vegetarian food. When you don't want to take a risk with the food but be satisfied this is the go to place. But warning it's super crowded!!! 😁👍☺️

A very pathetic service, and the attitude of the staffs stinks... Though there were many staffs still they refused to take the order... And this is the second time it is happening

Everyone likes their food and sweets but I am fond of their Chat Items. Samosa Channa and Kochori is a must try if you're planning to have some snacks.

They took more than an hour to deliver my food. And when I called them up they cut my call. They held no responsibility. And they had only excuses. Worst customer service. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY TO ORDER FROM THIS PLACE.
Mrk.durga
The waiting time could have been lesser since the delivery place was near to the hotel... Nonetheless the food was great and hot!!

Was here last weekend to grab a quick bite of Snacks with tea. And below is my observations

1. It's a costly affair because the amount they charge for dishes is at par with 3STAR hotels, which is not fair and Indian economy has not reached this limit where they can charge 32 for a single vada or nearly 30 for a small cup of tea..pl.consider the per capita income in India before deciding the price. few points less in my rating is because of the cost factor only.

2. The bonda was not great ( I've tasted better bonda in Chennai even in smaller shops ) compared to cost where as chutney and sambar was exceeded expectations as it was yummy and delicious

3.katori chat was good to have .. but being a chat , I urge the chef to make it little less sweet .. chat is not a sweet dish .

4. Tea was ultimate..at par with great teas..didn't taste coffee but was neither bad as my mate didn't complain about it. So thumbs up for these 2.

I know A2B doesn't depend on rating from people like us who values the value of money . But I'm sure some or the other day few people will change their mind because of the unnecessary cost factor.

Cheers !!!

This is not a review about the food. Please do not go this place ever. This place is run by goons, and we had a dent in the car caused due to the negligence of the security guys there. They started calling goons and threatening us. We had to flee the scene for our own safety. Please guys, if you are reading this, go here at your own risk. They hire goons to threaten customers.

Quick bites.. pocket friendly and delightful food with quick self service. North indian meal was decent enough and chapathi and kurma was good too. It is at prime location and the staff is good.

vegetable briyani quantity was very less.

True to its class... ghee roast dosa is never missed at any A2B.

I doubt how are they able to maintain the standardization overall at all the locations & state.

Quick to serve, smile on face - staff are at par

Filter kapi & mysore pak needless to say tops the chart.

Can't miss mentioning the awesome taste of jangreee/ imrati...

It has been quiet while I visited this restaurant before GST TAX IMPLEMENTATION,the food quality is worst comparing to high price In North Indian veg kurma there is no high quality vegetables at all except punch of green peas in sambar also there is no vegetables except there adding only punch of small onion and little bit of spices for taste,I didn't know how this gentle man are eating this food for high price except gst added

White chutney was missing in the order. This happened in spite of taking up with zomato twice and specifically mentioned it in the order this time. restaurant is rude and arrogant, they charge premium but highly unethical in fulfilling the order. big no to this restaurant next time

Yeah. 1 is my rating to "this A2B branch" and not to A2B chain.

Velacherry branch is not even close to other A2B branches across the city. Even a branch in a random highway is fabulous than this place. Reason?? - Many.

Food taste : 4/10. Average. My only reason why I sustained in this branch is because of the "old-A2B" taste. Not upto the mark, yet eatable.

Food quality : Average. The price is way above average.

Service : Bad. To be honest, the way they service here, the way servers treats the customers, the way cleaners clean tables and plates disposal, everything is not at all good. I mean, I'm still having doubt that I went to "The A2B". It took a damn 25 mins for a plate of parota.

Ambiance : Bad. Noisy. Yeah yeah can understand that this place is a good center and lots of customers are "expected". Because of it, the place should have proper crowd management and customer satisfaction. None were present. For example, chrompet and tambaram branches are also huge centers, yet they are maintained and managed well than velacherry branch at peak times.

Including Restrooms. They aren't maintained properly. Man, it was a hell version of A2B. I'm a huge A2B fan once and have visited many branches. In the end, I went to nearby juice shop, had a good glass of juice and returned home. Juice was better than those 2 parotas.

Overall, not-a-must-visit restaurant in Velacherry, Chennai to return back with a tummy full of satisfaction.

This AAB located in velachery vijaya nagar bus stop opposite, quite clearly and well visible place at hot Chennai. After watched the movie in grand mall, were looking some good and authentic chat items in very near. And finally we spotted Chennai famous food chain industry that is A2B. And we ordered BHEL poori, veg sandwich and grape juice. And almost its late night bite, most of the dishes were finished.

The taste of BHEL poori and grape juice is superb and awesome. But its comes to sandwich totally disappointment. They are not toasting the sandwich, just giving fresh vegetables and sauce. Its totally disgusting.

Overall nice place to visit, And so if u wish to pay GST then all is yours. Overall sweets, breakfast, chats and juices are quite good.

JD
Delicious food and sweets although there must be a mention of drop in quality to a certain extent over the last few months.

During our most recent visit, we felt the difference most definitely.

Service still remains fast and good. Well priced and a decent ambience. Ample seating available.

Good for breakfast. Known for their sweets. Some shakes and faloodas are great. Overall, good despite the recent drop in standard; or was that just on the days when we visited. Time will tell!

I ordered Channa masala and my friend ordered dahi puri. Food WS good. BT not so great. It's a huge place BT staffs were not welcoming that much. U can get a lot of varieties of veg food and chat masala.
