Review Hyssop - Chennai (Madras)

anand babu
One of the best Vegetarian restaurants in chromepet. Food taste is fantastic. Starters must try. Service is good. Car parking is bit tough on peak times. Price range is impressive. Overall best restaurant I have ever tried.

Our go to family place. A wide variety of options available. The cheese balls had a little taste of old oil. Rest of the dishes were amazing.

Yogesh Varan
Good place for vegetarian people. Food is tasty and at moderate price. Only issue is car parking. Bike parking is easy. Staff are good. Food is tasty too. Must try..

A True Multi Cuisine Restaurant with a variety of only Vegetarian Dishes is a Boon to Veg Lovers. Food was Tasty and was served Hot. The Menu list is long and all Dishes were available too. The Service was reasonably quick and friendly too. Located in a congested and Busy Neighbourhood, the Basement Parking options may be tricky on Weekends. Highly Recommended.

This is not in located in prominent place .this is a hidden treasure. Pros 1.bestbfor family dining 2.finger licking food 3.must try(tomato soup, babycorn munchirian dry, panneer) Cons 1.Parking is pathetic.

I went there for dinner, The taste is best, i tried bhindi masala & butter naan, which were very very good. The ambience is great, good crowd. Very much less hectic than other restaurants famous in Chennai like a2b, Sangeetha etc, this kinda feels like a good restaurant. I'd suggest you go with family or friends not alone, alone you'd find it expensive like I did because there are no thalis, you'd have to separately order all items which kinda costs more. Overall great would definitely recommend to try atleast once.

This is a fairly new place, opened up with the residents of Radha Nagar in mind. The place serves several varieties of cuisine. It is difficult to find a table on weekends. The service is fast, but there will invariably be a wait before you can find a table for dinner. Prices are competitive. Lift facility is available for the elderly and the infirm. Parking is a problem even for 2 wheelers. Even though a basement parking facility is available, this is not being put to use. This is very inconvenient for those coming to the hotel and to VPN Supermarket, and they are quite a few in number. Hope something can be done about this as it seems stupid to create a parking problem with the solution so close to hand.
venky sam
Good quality veg restaurant. They have lots of varieties from starters to main courses. Starters quantity is less for the price, but the taste and quality were👌🏻. Definitely recommended !!
Devi Ramya
All dishes were up to mark, ambience was very good, friendly staffs, taste was amazing

Food was good, many items not available as masters not available. Even though management regrets for that my special event missed the variety. Service I rated 2 star as the ordered menu not reached us, later noticed the order was not placed to kitchen so we wasted a huge te thinking item will reach and finally cancelled the missing menus. Atmosphere was normal and cleaniness can be improved. It's not too bad it's average

Perfect Veg restaurant near Pallavaram and best place to have food with friends and family. We went on weekend, it's was crowded and we waited for 10 mins and got table. Ordered baby corn and Panner tikka it was awesome. Dosa and fried rice varieties are very good. Value for money.

A good pure vegetarian restaurant with a great ambience and yummy food. Starters are mouth watering and lots of kids friendly options too. A few minutes walk from Chrompet railway station. Book your tables if you want to relish here over the weekends as it attracts more crowd. Management - please add up filter coffee too to have a perfect finish!
Kumaran M
Good place for veg food. Naan, paneer butter masala, milkshakes are good. too much crowd on weekends. long waiting time if you come late. quite expensive but tasty food. car parking available.
Ganga Devi
Food was excellent
Preethi Pattabiraman
Really good place with good quality north Indian. Good quantity of starters. Good for treats and others. Gobi Manchurian fry was really good and the cheese balls were fantastic.
Detroit Food Safari
Cheapest Vegetarian Restaurant in Chromepet. Fits well for family. Good service . Food taste is good considering the price. Big fan of special meals here. North Indian especially.
Sindhu Sridharan
A subtle environment, in midst of a buzzing chromepet railway area. I never knew such a restaurant existed. But it's a gem hidden among all the big names which dominate the GST Rd. Quick service and taste is the striking feature dining here. You wouldn't believe the two of us finished dinner in under 50 minutes all four courses. Most importantly the costs do not burn a hole in your pocket. I'd recommend commuting by bike here, since the roads leading to were a bit narrow else it's a thumbs up if you've made a choice to dine here.
We had cream of mushroom soup, chilli Gobi, paneer Tikka and baby corn fry for starters. Quantity is again sufficient for 2-3 people if you order one starter.
Viki
It’s our usual dining place with family. A perfect place to hangout with family. Located in the centre place, only hindrance is the waiting space outside. Whereas the food is very good and it’s worth for the money. Very polite stewards and people around.

Waste poor services.... time delay vry bad
Worst food no taste cost vry high.please select some other hotel..this vry bad... I got irritated many times
Koushik RaviKumar
As a family we had dinner here yesterday. We ordered many rice vareities one among which was CRISPY BABYCORY FRIED RICE. Babycorn for was entirely burnt. When ask abt this to manager he explained to us that this is how babycorn is usually served. Im not sure if he got confused between babycorn being " fired" and "fried" .

This palace is always overcrowded and I don't know why this happens. The cost of each item is very costly when compared to other hotels in this area.
Chennai_Food_Blaster
A perfect Veg restraunt with reasonable price...

Food 4/5

Ordered Ghee roast, Mushroom Briyani and Butterscotch Milk Shake...

The Briyani taste is really gud
Ghee roast is nice n crispy
Butterscotch milk shake is as usual

Service 3/5
There was somewhat delay in serving..
Serving person are polite n gentle...

Ambience 3/5
They can increase their appearance much more..

The one thing noticeable about this place is its ambience , it was kinda peaceful and pleasant . The food served is not very tasty but not bad too . The portions served was comparitively higher.Dessert options were also good .
Viswanadham.n
A completely veg restaurant with a decent taste and a good qty for the price and a single dish of rice bowl would serve 2 people with medium hunger. Decent ambience.

Food - 5/5
Ambience - 4.5/5
Service - 4.5/5
Value for money - 4.5/5
The best place to dine with 👪
The place is mostly occupied during the hours open for service.
Sowmya Iyer
Very nominal prices. All that we ordered was served quickly and was yummy. Staff is friendly. Good place to eat out with friends/family. Will visit again.
Srimathy Venkat
Very good service . And food is very mild and tasty . My Kids always love this restaurant food . Not too much masala type . Also nominal rate .

I had forgotten abt this place. Zomato reminded me. I have been to this place couple of times. It is above VSP supermarket. The ambience and staff are good. The manager is so polite. The food is good like any other goof restaurant but cheaper. The naans are specially good. (saying this as a North Indian) Go for this restaurants if u want a value for tge money u spend. U ll not be disappointed. I can't say much abt the sweet dishes though.

Surprisingly located in a less expected place, Hyssop was amusing with interesting interiors especially the painting that adorned the wall. It was a vegetarian restaurant but the menu was quite good. The show stealer was the crispy schezwan noodles, a must try if you visit. .
Koushik Vijay
Best suited for families who prefer pure vegetarian food. The food is delicious and the servers are very polite. One of the best places to hang out if you are in the neighborhood..

Dont forget to taste the sizzlers..
Ram Arvind
One of the few proper dineout veg restaurants in the locality. Lovely ambience, with decorative lights. We went on Saturday night, the place was crowded. We had to wait 10 minutes to get our table. But the food was worth the wait. We had French fries for starters. Felt the quantity was a tad less than usual but tasted good. Then we had cream of tomato soup. I wish the soup was thicker, they had less cream on. For main course we had roti to go with panneer butter masala and gobi manchurian gravy. All of them were excellent. We also had fried rice and noodles. They were decent. To finish off we had falooda with ice-cream. It was nice. I felt the value for money was there as the price was lower than that at restaurants of the same type. If you are in this area, this is a must visit veggie place for North Indian cuisine. As this was a family night out with many relatives, I didn't take pictures lol.

Very good restaurant to eat out in Chromepet Radhanagar area. Most of the good restaurants are in GST road: Namma veedu Vasantha Bhavan, Adyar Anandha Bhavan, Balaji Bhavan etc. But, this restaurant is situated in Chromepet Radha nagar market, so we dont have to go to GST road to eat out.
This restaurant ambience is very good with AC, good tamil film songs. Food choices are very good right from south indian specialities, continental, North Indian specialities. The staff were very friendly and quick to bring the order. totally 7 persons went. 4 Adults and 3 kids. Bill came to around Rs.1200, which is very reasonable. food quality and taste was very good. I especially liked the malai kofta side dish.

We ordered from starters to dessert. We found everything to be good and nothing to complain about.

Highly recommend this vegetarian restaurants for chromepet residential area people, who are having a restaurant closer by in the market area.

Parking is an issue, if you come by car. As the restaurant is in market area. You can park in nearby street and walk to the restaurant.
Abilash Baskaran
We were in Chrompet and we wanted to try out some newer eatouts and zomato led us here. Zomato took me for a ride with pointing to this place in the nearby and without much of an expectations we went here for an early dinner. There was surprisingly some space outside the restaurant for parking and probably being a weekend we got the car into a safe place. Being located within the market in Chrompet, it should be a nightmare for anyone to bring their cars to this restaurant, which puts things clear to why they don't have a designated car park.
I am not a fan of fancy name. Nonetheless, when they are decisive and misleading. I was hoping this place to be anything but plain Indian cuisine and tadaa, there we are. So they serve a "Multi cuisine" Indian (mostly dishes named after Punjabi), south Indian, Chinese, and pasta that desperately wanted to be part of the menu.
I'm impressed with the service as such. The waiters and servers know their food and job pretty well. Not to mention water refill were fast and prompt without having to ask for even once. Coming to food, we tried a couple of their regulars like naan, roti and the likes with a couple of gravy on the sides. I liked the food on the outset but they terribly fall short to serve them authentic. I could sense similar flavours in different gravies and that's strike one. People who regular the restaurant are find of their shahi paneer which is surprising. Their tandoor breads be the 4/5 varieties of naan, or the kulcha were pretty good.
Cost for 6 people two and a half course was around 1200(?) which is bloody cheap. Irrespective of why the food is not authentic or anything, it is absolute justice for money you pay. I've the entire menu I could handpick hardly one or two plates that I'd call expensive (including desserts). They have a good variety of desserts which is not so easily available in other VFM places.
To summarise this is one of those places I would avoid on a special occasion but definitely go on a weekly basis if I need to.

Food - 3.5/5
Service - 4/5
Ambiance - 2.5/5
Parking - 2.5/5
VFM - 4/5
A nice place for dinner. Naans and parathas are good. South Indian dishes are worth a try. Think before ordering a sizzler. A good place to spend quality time with friends.
Krivia V
Entered this place around 2:30pm n the staff were already in a mood to close the kitchen at 3. This restaurant strictly closes kitchen at 3 sharp. I think they really forgot that they belong to service industry. The unacceptable thing z, they serve only rice items. NO TANDOORI IN THE AFTERNOON. Ambience z not much, a simple decor. The restaurant did not smell good at all. The staff are not courteous but they provide your needs. They do get into arguments with us.
Now, about the food. They dint have much varieties to choose from during Afternoon. Only meals n rice items, soup n starters that's it. South Indian meals was average. North Indian meals had nice side dishes. Gobi starter was good but cheese balls did not match expectations. It's definitely worth the money but quality n service needs improvement.
They do not have parking space n the restaurant cannot b easily located. Pls use google maps.
Overall, choose the place if u have budget constraint.

I recently went here with my frnds..and had a great time. I had a royal falooda, blackcurrant shake n lassi.. everything was great except the lassi with was ok case. The ambience was great but it was but costly. Great place yoo spent time with ur frnds.
Hrishikesh Sathyamoorthy
Ambience is appealing. A variety of starters available. Service can be improved. Taste is good enough. But there can be a scope for improvement. Overall, a good place for a good locality

A place which I visit regularly. Very fond of it. Love it to the core. Busy place at the weekends but completely the opposite on weekdays.
Coming to the taste, almost all the dishes are fantastic starting from the starters till the desserts. I never regret eating anything here.
Coming to the cleanliness, the hotel is very clean with regular cleaning of tables.
Contributing factors: Hospitality. Really humble chief in Mr.Kishore (I guess so). His team is really good too.
Conspiring factors: Delay in serving. Take sometime for you to get served. Need to be patient.
On the whole, a fantastic restaurant.
Srikanth Baskar
Iam staying at chromepet and this hotel is present at my doorstep, trust me it's really gud. The food will not be extraordinary tats y I gave 3, nevertheless surely they will serve quality food without delay at a fair price.

One of the worst restaurants I've visited in my life. I'm not a review person. But now I feel the importance of writing it. I don't want people to end up here and spend their hard earned money on a shitty place as this.

Firstly, they made us wait for 1.5 hours. After getting the place, we had to ourselves get chairs. The manager then shamelessly asked the chairs back.

The food ordered was as usual starting with soup, starters and main course.

The soup was delivered after half an hour then the manager said that one of the starters we ordered was unavailable after half an hour after ordering it. Then the other starter we got was pathetic with just mushroom and the masala fried for a while in the pan.

The main course didn't arrive at all even after an hour after all this hungama. We were 8 people earning decently who could afford a good night meal. But wasting such hard earned money on such a place was pointless.

The manager is useless as he keeps arguing with customer.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to go to this restaurant.
I always return with happy tummy 😋
There are always some ups and downs everywhere.. but other than one dessert I have always liked everything I have tasted

Best place for veggie inside the railway station chrompet area ppl. Dosai with 3 types of chutneys are awesome. Evn tried all type of rice. Pasta they have to do better with good price.
In my last visit no air conditioning was working.
Best place for veg Dinner.
BIGMUNCHER
An ideal family restaurant.. good service and decent food. Sometimes the restaurant gets crowded since its the only good multi cuisine restaurant in the locality. In terms of food, they have a nice taste, the dosa with 3 types of chutneys and sambar, the tandoori items, etc and my personal favourite the curd rice- chill curry rice with ginger, chilly, carrot, and twisted with mint, makes me eat till the last spoon of it!
Sam Son
Wow.... Nice place to have a dinner with family. Good taste and worth for money you spend. Only problem is lack of seating especially on weekends, it was fully crowed need to wait and eat. Dosai, Naan and all food items are good. Nice service. I'm non veg lovers but only place where I like to have veg is Hyssop.
Suyambuvel
Only 2 people (at times 1) taking orders & managing seats for 20 tables! That's too much cost cutting Hyssop management! You have a great cook, neat ambience, but the service could have been a lot better. The best in Chrompet for vegetarian food by far but lags only in quality of service.
Ashok Prabhakaran
The bad rating is not for the food but for everything other than food. The food taste is the only saving grace. Heard about this restaurant from Zomato actually and wanted to take out my family. Majority of my family are veggies and they would love a Veg resto in the vicinity.
We decided on a random sunday evening to drop in. First of all, the resto is in a small small street which can hardly let 2 cars pass through at the same time. To make matters worse, this is located on top of a busy supermarket store. Bad choice to take a car and roaming around Radha nagar to find a parking.
Didn't expect a good crowd at all and the crowd management had a lot to be desired. I could see a lot of customers jumping the queue and the girl who was managing was not even aware. Took a good 30 mins before we got a table and being a busy evening, more time to place orders and get it served.

Probably wouldn't go there on a busy evening.
Mido
Good food but sloooooooooow service. After starters waited 30 min for main course. The aloo kabab was good with BBQ grill flavour but poteto was slightly raw. Must have lots of patience for food to come. Better order food shop in vsp and come back.
Sathish Kumar
I went last Saturday for Dinner. I didn't expect a full house in the Hotel. The ambiance was very good and i got the Sizzlers(one of my favorite) in the menu. The only disappointment is after order it will take 20 to 25 mins to gt it served. All the dishes which we ordered are very nicely cooked and it was evoking taste buds for more and more. Finally had the Mango milkshake which is again an awesome one. Don't miss this hotel when you are near to Chrompet. A very good Hotel.
Sutharshnrs
A lonely place infact in nearby locality.. Ambience is good and food is okish.
Once i had a cockroach roadted in my food.
So its better you go in peak time.
Shwetha
One of the very few veg restaurants in the locality. A savior in times of hunger truly! I've been here a couple of times with my friends and it's practically second home for most people in my college! We had Gobi Manchurian dry and Crispy Veg Balls for starters. The Gobi was great but the veg balls were too spicy for me! For main course I just chose the ever safe paneer fried rice (you can never go wrong with that) and my friends had the hyssop meals. It had a plate full of tiny cups including sweet roti and even watermelon (kudos!) . For 100 it's completely worth it.
If you're in and around chrompet and you haven't tried this place already , you know where to head for your next lunch/dinner
Ranjani Mlc
I love the ambience. It's mostly crowded on weekend as it is in one of the top list in chrompet circle.. Service is good, food is fine and Lovely ambience
Javed
Went for a dinner with friends. It is one of the Veg. restaurants we prefer. It is both cheap and tasty, such things always attracts students like us. Plus has a friendly ambience.
We had gobi fry for starters, it's one of our favourites in here. We had the plain, butter and cheese naan. I would say it is one of the best cheese naans you can get. We had the classic paneer butter masala and paneer kurma side. Both these were your average version.
Over all it's a decent Veg. restaurant.
GOPALAKRISHNAN K
Been here for lunch and dinner couple of times. It was a pure vegetarian hotel and value for money. The meals here was quite good and very tasty. Tiffen items were good but I do not like Crispy noodles and some of the starters items. Overall good.
Vaishnavi Raghavan
It may be a little bit difficult to find this place because its hidden inside a residential area and is situated above a supermarket! Ambience is decent, nothing outstanding. Service could have been quicker. Food is fine. But my panner butter masala tasted like the ready-to-eat boxed dishes that we get in the convenience stores!
Gayathri
Went there from college for lunch. The food is good, not great. Ambience could have been better. The service time was also too much, could have been quicker.
Arun
This place is kinda hidden from, the main vicinity as it's located above a suppermarket. We found the place accidently and went for lunch. The ambience was dull and the place was empty the manager or the guy who seems to be in-charge and the waiters appeared bored and unwelcoming.
We found a table for two ourselves and ordered panner fried rice and veg biryani.
The food was really good however they dont know what customer service means at all.one can notice the service people being lethargic when ever they server or if being called for the table. They also very well know how to offend their customers. I certainly not recommend this place even, though the food tasted good.
Subhiksha Venkat
The place looks so dull and boring but the food sure isn't. There was a time when i used to come every day after college for lunch. North Indian cuisine is the best here. Chinese food here is simply an extended indian version. So if you visit Hysopp, be sure to have their north indian food.

Ambience 1
Vfm 4
Food 4
Niranjan Shankar
Little does anyone from outside chromepet would've known about this restaurant. I'd term this a boon to all vegetarian people out here feeling the lack of standard outlets. I've been here on many occasions and the starters and desserts they serve are really too good, though not top notch. Not to belittle the main course though. Ambience is perfect as well, with the only setback being the average service offered. I would love to see more varieties and a standard servicing other than which, this is an awesome place to visit if you want to spend a peaceful night with your family/friends.
Sai Shashank
Though hidden in the clustered lane of radha nagar this restaurant serves ambrosial south Indian meal with a little dash of north Indian piquant taste,,the sauce served for starters with a dash of garlic is so mouth watering ,,the Chinese food never tasted so good ,,but the continental foods plays hide and seek in this restaurant its almost not available ,,overall its a good restaurant ,take our fork and start eating
Ramya Barath
Though I've come across this hidden restaurants many a time while visiting VSP Supermarket, it never striked me to try it. But Zomato did the job! Having said that, let me jump straight to the point.

Ambience: Normal
Service: Could be improved; delays for even the simplest dishes
Taste: Good
Cost: Nominal and affordable

Conclusion: Though you might not come out jumping with tell-tale reviews, you'll neither regret your visit there; and since it is also cost effective, it won't hurt to visit again.
Santhoshiya Gurubalavignesh
Went to hyssop many times and I don't know how they bring same kind of taste. If we go for dinner we used order only starters and desserts. Meals are the best. If we go a weekend afternoon we can eat tasty meals in a cool environment with good music. Best place to go with family and friends. Sometimes the dishes which we order won't be there.
Karthik Racer
The best vegan outlet in chrompet. Nice n clam space where u can enjoy a dinner with your families n loved one's. There menu has good varieties. It's ideal n pocket friendly space. If they do little bit of marketing for this place. They will become huge
Sri Hariharan S
This is a hidden gem in chrompet. Its in the interior, close to Radha Nagar and I visited the place for a family get-together and I'm really glad that I did visit. The restaurant is on the first floor of the same building which houses a supermarket in the ground floor and if not for a hoarding people would easily miss the place.

This is a pure veg restaurant and can seat close to 60-70 people at once. The ambiance is good and the seats are decently comfortable. The staff are so courteous and attentive but not overattentive too.We were a group of 10 and 3 kids. We ordered a lot of items and though the service did take a wee bit every item was good. The tandoori platter,Gobi Manchurian dry, schezwan rice were excellent.Other starters and maindish were tasty too.And now comes the best part, the dishes doesn't cost a bomb.Definitely VFM.The place was almost full by 8PM that too on a weekday!Says a lot about the place.

One special mention about the staff, the 3 kids were creating havoc in our table at times but every staff made sure we all were comfortable and did not turn angry or show attitude. Very much appreciate this gesture.
Venkatesan Murali
Soups are yummy and tasty. The starters were good too. All north indian dishes seems to be tasty here. One of the big letdown is the place at which this restaurant is located. Not many people know about this place. Even I went there accidentally. This is located on top of a supermarket. It is also cost effective and I would certainly recommend this one.
Syed Abdul Ikraam
Taste : 3.5/5 ; Ambiance : 3.5/5 ; Service : 3/5 ; VFM : 3.5/5

Stumbled upon this place by mistake the other day when i was the locality of radha nagar the other day to meet an old friend...he was stuck in some traffic and i was getting hungry so i tried finding some place to eat and found this place on zomato..located in the complex above VSP super market...

Parking : Located in the same building of a super market parking tends to get filled up soon..but as its a closed road you mostly wont find any problem

Ambiance : Above average..Plain decor...could accommodate around 60 PAX..perfect cooling...no problems....

Service : Was bit on the slower side..but the servers were polite and courteous...

Taste : Above average..tried shangai fried rice with mushroom masala..the fried rice was too good...its actually a mixture of rice and noodles..perfect balance...the mushroom masala was spicy....the perfect way i like it....

Value for Money : Bill came around 245 with taxes..for the taste and service i would say it was worth it..but i found the quantity to be a bit on the lower side....
Vidhyalakshmi Manivannan
We are regulars here as the food is priced very reasonably for on-budget college students like me. Gobi Manchurian (and other manchurians) is one the tastiest items here. The soups are yummy too. No negative reviews on the taste of food. Ambiance is good, not great. One can eat one's stomach's fill and not worry about the bill.
Darshan Nihilkumar
Hyssop is a nice place to have both lunch and dinner. But they should have Idly and coffee. This is my review about hyssop. They should reduce the cost of some items like fried rice and noodles
Gautham Madhu
People pls don't miss their lunch for 100 + tax. Lot of items in lunch. Ambience is very good. Only problem is the connectivity! Very interior location!
Tc Karthick
Taste is good! nice place to go for a family dinner especially for veg lovers.
Lakshminarayanan Kasthuri Rangan
Went with my friends for get together..mushroom soup was yummy...baby corn Manchurian dry was extremely good. Crispy veg wasn't that good..fried rice and kadai panner needs to be improved..chowmein was really good. And service was slow which needs to be improved.
Nikhil'esh Raaja
Best ambiance.. Less no. of dishes.. Nice place to go for a dinner out with family...
Rex Albert
Ambience is good, Service is good. Cordial Staff. But the taste of food can be improved. People who have tasted food in different places would find the food that needs improvement in taste.
Worth trying once .
A lot of items are available only during dinner time.
Ashok Kumar
Excellent Taste that brings you a Royal Aroma . Very Experienced Chef particularly in making of Fried Rice varities, Panner Tikka Series and Roti Varities which will bring us a feel of having food at Star Hotels. I never miss to order Cream of Mushroom Soups, Amristar ka panner tikka and Mixed Fried Rice in very particular. Great Taste .

By Ashok Kumar K , Chromepet
