Not so impressed with the ambience. Food taste was good. But quantity was very less for the price paid.

What an amazing place to eat if you love exploring food. I was sceptical about this place but somehow they proved me wrong.
I had order the unlimited griller buffet for 750/- including GST and I swear I was tired of eating.
Amazing food was served with nachos, greens, grilled chicken and fish, steamed fish, pizza, pasta and not forget the sizzler with tortillas. Everything was a good blend of Mexican spices and herbs. The serving style was also good. You are even served with unlimited chilled Beverages. At the end don't forgot to choose from the amazing list of deserts.
Everything was so fresh and perfectly cooked.
I would recommend this place for an amazing experience.

Was visiting this place after a long time since we got bored of the food and wasn't impressed with the service. To my surprise the food tasted excellent and the service had also improved substantially. 4 stars for the reason that they don't take Amex. Ordered the non veg soup, chicken fajitas and day night sizzler. The food was fantastic and the presentation was equally appealing and pleasing to the eyes. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal but felt the fajitas was little spicy which was informed earlier by the waiter. For foodies who like to try different places, this place is a must go.

Located pretty near to Nungambakkam railway station. Visited this joint for a weekend lunch buffet. At first sight, the restaurant fails to impress. Small,a bit shabby, not well lit, dark coloured walls and cargo container kind of metallic wall on one side will raise a lot of eyebrows. But within no time, the warmth of the behaviour of the owner and the staff provided a lot of comfort. The restaurant is understaffed but their honest effort to attend every customer's needs is commendable. The service is kind of a hydel power project,it takes time to gain momentum but once the rhythm is set in,it kinda becomes smooth and spontaneous. Taste wise from starter to dessert, the whole spread is of superb quality. Every dish has its own signature taste and aroma. Very unique buffet, hope a la carte will also not fail to deliver. Rated 4 out of 5 as there is scope of improvement in ambience, service and staff management sector. Final verdict is it's a must try food joint, strongly recommend.

What ever you order in this restaurant was very fine taste, they also have fish which really amazing. Use Zomato Gold for more offers. Pizza was very very nice & crispier, it is tacos pizza which was stunning, dip which they have given was very very nice for every dish. Price is bit higher if you don’t have Zomato Gold. Awesome food.

I had high expectations to try out the Mexican spread here. Of course, the restaurant didn't disappoint me, however it didn't blow me away either. First of all, if you're expecting a striking ambience to spend lovely time, then this is not the place for you, it is mediocre at its best with very dim lighting and cramped space. Coming to the food, there are couple of starters that I liked very much, especially the quesadillas and grilled fish were worth mentioning. Though we tried multiple dishes, most of them had a similar taste and the taste started deteriorating after the first serving. Overall, it's a good place to check out the mexican food once. And value for money place!

taste was good and spicy 🔥 yum.
Seats were comfortable.
Beans were dry
Able to see lots taps in the Aircon and guitar and few lights were out felt bit odd. Could have maintained well.
2 course is 609 including GST

Restaurant is located in a prime place. Easily noticeable. Parking space would be an issue. Two wheeler can be parked in front.
Kind staffs. Place can accommodate 30-40ppl I believe.
Food is amazing. Enchilda and Quesdilla must try dishes. Mocktail is good. The taste and quantity is amazing.
Pricing is moderate. Roughly about 1000rs for two.

Food was worth the price. I don't remember the exact name of these dishes . But the first pic is some Mexican grilled chicken in steak sauce platter and the second fish was something like Mexican butter fish platter ( which we loved ❤️)
Ambience- cozy and comfy , there's some or other Spanish or Mexican songs playing in the background.
Service- staff were friendly , I would have given a five star but I felt like there was slight delay in serving the food even when there was not much crowd . Well maybe Mexican food need so much time to get prepared? 😛. Overall a wonderful experience.

Very close to Loyola College and Nungambakkam station. Can be identified easily. Serves best mexican starters and food. Buffett is on the bit higher end regarding price. Too much of starters at once that you don't get to eat main course.

A small place with comfortable seating and ambience. Had fajitas which is basically a sizzling portion of mixed vegetables served with tortilla. Also tried spicy grilled chicken and chicken steak, both served with a bit of rice, masked beans, French fries and mayo. The portion sizes are good, taste is fine, more towards Indian/Arabic style, reasonably spicy.

Its located in nungambakkam opposite to maplai restaurant and nearby loyala college.
A small place to eat out. Not good for big group outings. The items availability is limited to time.
Food tastes good here. Seafood are the best.

This is a good place to eat. The lasagna here is very delicious. The sizzler is also very good but one time it became too much smoky. Ambience is great and they have Mexican hats which are fun to wear and pose. Price is quite on the higher side. Service is great, though the wait time might get a little late. Haven't tried any Mexican food though.

It was a small and lovely place.... Food was so delicious... Loved the taste... Mexican theme was cute... They planned a Valentine's Day special menu for the day... But we went for the regular menu which really did had it's positive side when we ordered Mexican and Indian fusion Briyani... It was one of the best briyani I've ever had.. And do order the house special PESCADO ENVUELTO and DE QUESADILLA...
Meenakshi Dangi
Nacos had chettinad chicken instead of Mexican taste and nacos deep fried with oil dripping.... Horrible.... Mexican rice tasted like biryani.... 15 years back it was my favourite restaurant

This is definitely a place well past it’s prime. The ambience and service was ok. The food terrible
Krithika Balaji
The food wasn't very great. Ordered a chicken burrito and it wasn't fresh at all. The roasted chicken had way too much salt. It was a bad experience overall.

The food here was good, though the menu was limited. But was upsetting about this place was the sad ambience. It has a very depressing ambience and a bored waiter, who was very keen on closing the bill. He never bothered to check if we needed anything else. Feel sorry for this place as the food was good and mexican is hard to find in chennai
Crispy flour tortilla shells stuffed with grilled chicken, refrittos, lettuce and cheese .
Craving for some delicious taco?
Then head to Don Pepe and relish every bite of the taco loco.
Priced at Rs 240 it's value for money. Also this is a place where you get authentic Mexican food. Also on the table :Chicken quesidilla, Chicken nachos and a plate of Jamaican Chicken
I would definetly have another plate of it when I visit the place again!
Nanditha Ram
Entered with a lot of expectations since this was among the very few Mexican Restaurants in Chennai. Sorry to say the food was subpar.
Furthermore I'm vegetarian and the menu was limiting of options to choose from.
The place was empty for a Sunday night.

Also, a tiny cockroach sprang out of the bill-holding-card haha xD

Been to this restaurant since day one of opening. Loved the old menu and food but really messed it up with the new shorter menu. Lost a family full of customers for life.
Akshay Prakash
Amazing pizzas as usual. Nachos were really good❤️ Kinda overpriced. That was my only complaint. But still really liked the pizzas. Don Pepe is known worldwide as one of the best pizza chains of all time. If they reduce the prices, they would do really well in Chennai!🙈 Otherwise, amazing pizzas.
S L
food ordered was never delivered! also Zomato didn't inform that's don Pepe was not equipped to deal with online orders, the amount was deducted from my wallet, no refund has been done as of now! pathetic customer service!
Bindu Bandla
We ordered potato skins, veg combo fiesta and sizzling brownie. Potato skins are good and veg veg combo I felt the same gravy was used to all and bit oily. Brownie was burnt because of over heat.
Rewind,Eat
The best dish of the whole Restraunt I would say is the fiesta platter.although for the quantity I would say it is overpriced but is the best dish there.
The salsa and cream they keep as complimentary sides tastes spoilt which immediately brings down the reputation of the place.and the enchiladas are good too but that too has the salsa on top which tastes horrible cause the salsa tastes spoilt every single time I have gone there.
Please improve the quality of food and the size of the fiesta platter so that it balances out the price of it as well.

The hotel offers good ambience and amazing Mexican food. A must try for everyone. Have tried walnut pasta, burritos and fajitas. All dishes were delicious. Rates are also reasonable with superb service.
Priyanka Gunturu
Tried their veg lunch combo... the welcome lemon crusher was great... n the soup was filling...with crushed nachos in it..( not sure if that's even the authentic way of making Mexican soup) .. but much tastier than the chili at Chili's ... main course was a good portion with variety of things on the plate..

Slightly oily but decent
The desert was just a regular one... nothing Mexican about it.

Overall a good experience & definitely value for money
Sowmyanarayanan P
Nachos were bit oily. Nothing compared to the legendary TGI Fridays India veg nachos. Could have dressed it better. Can go a on and on about nachos. But if you have no other option for Mexican go here. Service is good. Had a peaceful lunch.

This place has been my favourite since I was a kid ! Great food and amazing service ! Best Mexican place in town :) the quality hasn't changed one bit !

I think this place is highly underrated. And quite frankly, that's pretty much why I go back there. It's free of beings and easy to get a table without prior reservation. I like sitting in that corner alone as if I owned this restaurant and were its sole customer. The service did feel exclusive.

The dips, the dishes and the side condiments are just delicious. Best quesadillas I've ever had. Margharitas are brilliant as well. But, I particularly loved the sauteed mushrooms. Crunchy. I think some work could be put into the cheesy veg nachos though. Wish they weren't soggy with all the cheese. Enjoyed them regardless.

I have been here with my friend.. I became so fond of mexican food after eating here.. Best dine out... Great services.... Combo is the best... I love to have the brownie with icecream.. Delicious
Iamrock51in
An average place to hang out. The place boasts to be a Mex restaurant but I couldn't feel the Mexican flavour itself.

Ambience: The place was well lit and the seating was comfortable.

Service ; I felt the service was poor and there was so much delay after ordering the food.

Food; All the food was dipped in cheese and it played a major part. At one point i started hating cheese.
Priyadarshini Krishnaraj
My friends and I were planning to come here for ages and today we finally made it.

We ordered some margaritas to quench our parched throats after walking in the miserable heat of Chennai! I had the strawberry margarita and it was absolutely lip-smacking. The only problem was that the margarita had hardly any taste of strawberry...it tasted just like lime and lemon margarita with pink food colouring :-P
A nice and satisfying margarita but one can't really prefix "strawberry" to its name.

We also had mexiskins and these looked absolutely delicious when they arrived. We dug in and I just loved the crisp potato shells-they were amazing! The filling was good but quite Indianized.

The highlight of our visit had to be the salsa-it was fresh and delicious and we just couldn't get enough of it! Best salsa I've ever had.

The sour cream was really good as well

I'll surely come here again to try the other things they have on offer like tacos and fajitas.
Abhiram Ravi Bharadwaj
Tried the veg combo 1 and 3 which aren't mentioned here in menu. If you plan to go, the veg combo 1 would be the best combo. One of my friend tried the non veg combo 1 and wasn't at all satisfied with it.

You plan to visit this restaurant for a long time and the time when you do, the 1st thing you see is a cockroach on the table. And when you tell waiter, he simply stands there and tell us that there are no cockroaches.
Anyways we didn't want waste our evening searching for another restaurant because it was saturday eve and we knew every restaurant will be crowded.
The food was good but not filling. Chicken leak soup was good.As many reviewers mentioned, the sea food quesadillas and the nachos were good. Among the main course, chicken priyazo and texas prawn were good. But they just serve with small quantity of rice and a whole lot of gravy. We had to buy extra garlinc breads to finish it. I didn't like the lamb el coyote as it was like lamb in a tomato soup. And never order boston chowder.
I would say 3.5 for the food but they cant just let cockroaches to crawl around

After a lot of discussion, me and my friends finally agreed on to go to don pepe for a friend's night out.
The place was had a very small sign board; wasn't that easy to spot from a distance across the street(even though it's on the road) . It is situated above hot breads.
Appetisers: there wasn't much variety on soups, had the #chicken leek - a creamy soup having a tint of onion flavour to it was good but chicken pieces/ flavour wasn't there and #mexican chicken soup- a thick, a bit sour and containing small pieces of chicken, peas and the like; had a nice tangy flavour. #Boston chowder veg soup- a very bland mixed veg soup was ok with the addition of pepper and salt.

Starters:
#Chicken quesadillas - the best of the evening, hot and quite tasty.

Main course:
#Texas prawn - had a nice flavour to it and the Prawns were good.
#Chicken Priyazo - thick gravy with chicken pieces this was really good.
#El Coyote - mutton with tomato and onion gravy and rice , was average.
In all the main courses the problem was the very disproportionate gravy to rice quantity; a good amount of gravy from all the 3 courses were left and had to buy garlic bread to eat it.

The quantity was very less for all the dishes while the price was on the higher side.

Tried mexican for the first time but i loved it one best place to go
And the price is reasonable and the food is amazing
The place is spacious enough and very neat they hav good ambience
Specially the combos are so cool and best
And it cheap like its around 400

I tried Mexican cuisine for the first time and should say I was so impressed with this restaurant. They have a very unique menu and all the dishes are out of the box stuffs. Shrimp cocktail is their best. Chicken wings was also good in the appetizers section. They have a variety of main course for veg n non veg. It's a very small place though. I would suggest a reservation on weekends. Thanks to my friend who took me there. If you are a seafood lover, you should try their main courses. It's awesome. Especially texas prawns. 💓💓

I had gone to Hot breads, Gopalapuram (the duplex building that hosts HB and Don Pepe together; we were seated in Don Pepe section only) for a bloggers meet for a cake tasting session. Overdose of sweetness from the all the cakes left us craving for something savory and that's when we ended up ordering from the Don Pepe menu.

Apart from a pasta and pizza that we ordered from Hot Breads fast food menu, we also ordered Nachos and a starter from Don Pepe.
* Chicken Nachos – THE BEST NACHOS I’VE HAD YET. It was just too yummy. Cheesy, ample amount of chicken keema and mushrooms on top with some veggies. Creamy. The nachos were crispy. Perfect combination. I’m sure going back there, just for this.

* Crumb fried non-veg platter – No, this isn’t the name in the menu. I cant recall the name right now. It’s in the starters. You can choose either chicken or prawns, I asked for a mix. The dish was quite okay. Served with fries and salad, it was filling.

Since it was a bloggers meet, service and pricing are not applicable here.
I would highly recommend this place for Nacho lovers!

This is a clear cut Mexican restaurant despite any signs in Zomato about the Spanish cuisine involved. It’s right next to Copper Chimney which is the more visible outlet beside the flyover in front of the music academy. A two floored place, with Hot Breads taking the ground floor and Don Pepe on the first; at least that is what we figured.

We were received well from the stairs at first floor by someone wearing the famous Mexican hat giving a cue of the atmosphere there. There are no real glam and noise about the place that shouts out Mexico. Just couple of frames on the wall and the table mat has a hint from the south. But the menu card was amazing. It had the little colourful icons that represented something Mexican. There was a brief about the type of food available in the cuisine and what it is about. The font used in the menu card too was well thought of.

Now the food to be honest was authentic Mexican. The fish starter was amazing, fillets of fish but with a very dry covering. It tasted like the fish was cooked first and dipped in batter later, and then baked or rolled in fire. But it tasted yum nonetheless. We got about 10 pieces of it too, and that’s pretty good by general starters standards. Main course meant we try out something fishy. There was this typical onion and capsicum slits mixed with slices of fish all in a thick gravy of cheese. Haaa I loved it, except the cheese put constraints on my appetite.

Then we ordered seafood Tacos, which was tortillas stuffed with onion and fish mix and tonnes of baby cabbage. So eat into the semicircular tortilla + cabbage and then you ll enter the seafood mix. Yes the crisp tortillas and stuffing inside was good, but on the whole it felt like an appetizer than a main course meal. We did get four of those, but considering each of it was half filled with cabbage, it was not what you call filling. But one particular ingredient in the mix was intriguing – one that gave the food a mint flavor, well to be precise, the typical inner smell of ‘Halls’. It was not too much to cause indifference but enough to get your brains curious.

Finally an apple pie with ice cream. It was a decent sized slice of apple pie, which looked natural without the perfect shaped edges etc. It had the cracks and breaks that we would find in a homemade pie. And it was tasty too, so yes I liked it.

Not an exotic ambiance, no big colours and noise to keep it stand out of the rest, but it serves decent food at expected (slightly high) prices. And to me that is good!

P.S. The restroom can have a bit more of light though :/

If you desire to have authentic Mexican Food in Chennai, this is the right place for you. Try the Lemon Margarita, Enchiladas and Nachos. Great experience.

I've been to this place a million times since my school days. They serve some of the best Mexican in chennai. Their nachos and quesadillas are their highlight in both the veg and the non veg options.

Was meeting a friend at this place in the evening .we had the chicken quesadilla and chicken nachos .the nachos was good but there wasn't much chicken .the chicken in the quesadilla wAs too plain without any flavour .

Don pepe the very name brings the awww factor ....good things first the location...yes I just love the view ( I know it's in the first floor) but still I get to see the busy side of Chennai kinda gives upbeat feeling ...it's a very simply furnished place ...Ordered veg quesadillas...it looked colorful with lots of fresh viggies ..it tasted good with cheese filling then v settled for chicken burritos for main course ....oh no here comes the disaster ...yes it was a total disaster v were forced to cut short our dinner after 2 spoon of burritos. It was really a let down ...this place which boasts to b first mex restaurant of Chennai seriously needs a second set of eyes to keep up it's glory.

I've been to Don Pepe a lot of times in the past. We had a movie to catch in the area and decided to dine there. I'm visiting after 5 years and nothing has changed greatly. Would've loved to see amazing food though.

We ordered Virgin Mary & Piña colada mocktails. Both where so-so. Couldn't complain for that price perhaps.

Their sour cream was tasteless and so was the salsa. Very unwelcoming. So we waited on the rest of the food and talked about how Chennai still doesn't have a good Mexican place. The quesadillas were here. Well cooked and generous with vegetables, I would've loved to see some more flavor here. The cheese inside was also average at best.

The Enchiladas were nothing authentic but good for a hungry stomach. The plating was good and the bean rice along made the dish very interesting.

The Verde cilantro had some parsley rice and a gravy cooked with onions, mushroom and bell peppers. I liked this one a lot. Everything here was just perfect.

We paid 1234 for all of this which is not bad considering the quick service and decent ambiance. And the quest is still open.

place is clam not crowded.. their potato creamy soup was brilliant.. we ordered mushroom as starter which was not that great.even pasta was not worth the price ...

Don Pepe is a nice Mexican joint in Chennai. This is not your typical mexican joint but with an Indian twist. The food is nice. The place is quite small and it does not get very crowded. May be its one of those off days. It should be popular otherwise why will I open more joints in the city. Having said this, more about the food. The mocktails were quite ok. I love the nachos and quesadillas. Simple yet tasty. Likewise the cheese dips and the salsa sauces were really good. The tacos was good too with refried beans was excellent. The Euromex specialities like the Veg Priyazo and Verde Cilantro was quite ok. Trying to be diplomatic but it was more for the Indian tastebuds but I did not feel any European nor Mexican about it. But the head chef is very friendly and affable. Extremely warm and always happy to hear our thoughts. Heard that he has been with the owners since the last 15 yrs or so. Very impressive. We were offered complimentary desserts on the house. Overall, true blue Mexican lovers might not love it but why bother when you live in Chennai. Must visit.

The place was empty when we had gone at 5 in the evening but was welcomed with atmost care. They set up the kitchen, served us whatever we had ordered. Food was real good, had the authentic Mexican taste. Overall, living up to its tag n its brand of food.

Choosing between two options, decided for Don Pepe as it had been ages I was here.

Very good location.

It is impossible to park there, but thankfully they have Valet Parking and that solves one issue

Ambiance:
Table Mat
Ground Floor is exclusive for Hot Breads, though it’s the same management for both joints. Through Hot Breads, one has to walk to the first floor, the Don Pepe Seating. Pretty small seating arrangement with about seven tables. Vintage Mexican pictures and décor. Love the table mattes that have Mexican design.

The open Kitchen is always a welcome sign when you know what's cooking up. Well, actually it is a very smart one, you cannot see properly the cooking, but they can see you. It's covered in glass, so smoke doesn’t bother the diners.

Food:

Started off with a strawberry Icecream for the kid, as she was hungry and hassled with the heat outside. She liked it and almost completed it. I didn’t find it great.

Strawberry Margaritta:
When the Server was bringing this, I thought why two icecreams, only difference was the lemon. On closer look, it was clarified, this was a pretty Pink Margarita. Lipsmackingly yummy. Wonderful presentation in proper Margarita glass, much smaller in size though, bright pink colour, just like the icecream, covered in crushed ice and complete with the salt on the rims. Every sip was heaven and lasted for long.

Chicken Priyazo:
It is Boneless finger Chicken sautéed with crisp capsicum and onions simmered in black pepper sauce accompanied by Mexican rice and Garlic Toast. I always feel the rice quantity is less, and so was this time. It didn’t taste great too, dry and giving a feel of having been cooked very well in advance.

The Chicken in pepper sauce was delicious and very good in portion. The garlic toast was very crispy and nice, we ordered for a couple of extra pieces.

We also ordered for some potato fries, which is more of wedges. A little hard but crispy.

The loveliest thing here and happy to see the consistency of the salsa. Yummy. With a bowl of fresh cream and one with green olives, makes the food yummier. The fresh cream was really fresh, thick and tasty.

Service: Was good, though at a time only one waiter for the entire place. They always have a smile on their face and are very courteous, making the meal enjoyable.

The whole meal cost us Rs 665/- which was Value for Money.

Having had the best of Mexican around the globe, I won’t call this as very authentic, they do have touch of Indianised version, but still a great Mexican experience in Chennai, since a long time

Been here a couple of times when the desire to eat "Mexican " food strikes. I'm probably not the right person to judge the authenticity of the food here, but I can say that it's pretty decent if you're okay with having a lot of beans and veggies.
So far, I've tried the nachos, mexiskins, golden fried babycorn from the appetisers. Nachos are pretty good, thin , crisp and not salty and go well with the cheese, salsa and jalapeños. The mexiskins are basically potato skins fried up and stuffed with beans and veggies. Tastes okay, but is quite heavy. The fried babycorn is just average stuff, for those who like fried food.
Amongst the specialities, I've tried the tacos and the chimi changas, served with a side of slaw and mexican rice. Those who love fresh, crispy vegetables will like the tacos while those with a craving for cheesy, refried beans- filled indulgence should go in for the chimi changas. The rice was okay, nothing to write home about.
I have tried the veg priyazo, which is basically mexican rice served with a creamy, peppery, paneer-capsicum-onion gravy, which should delight those who prefer "indianised" versions of different cuisines.
Overall, Don Pepe gives you a good experience especially if you are new to mexican cuisine. And funnily enough, one doesn't leave the place feeling too stuffed despite the large amounts of cheese and beans ingested.
So go ahead, give it a try if you're up for something different.

Location - On the busy Cathedral road on the same side as the Music Academy. Not really sure if they have an official parking area or valet. We just parked our two wheeler in a lane before the hotel. The restaurant itself is on the 1st floor.

Ambience - Nice cozy little place which on our 2 visits is not too crowded (during the 2nd visit we were the only ones in the restaurant). Good lighting effects. We have a view of the kitchen on one side and the other side its the Cathedral road.

Service - Since I have never seen a crowd here, the service always has been good. Except that when you need something like water or replenishing the salsa or jalapeños its a problem getting hold of the waiters.

Food - Starters and drinks are OK - not too great or bad - managing to live up to the basic expectations of a Mexican restaurant. A friendly advice for the main course is to choose carefully. Some items don't turn out as expected or as mentioned in the menu. So its basically depends on what you choose. The salsa and jalapeños are just fine. Never bothered to try the desserts.

Cost - Pretty costly. A sea food main course costs around 400 easily. A bill for 2 people with 2 drinks, a starter and 2 main course (only one non veg) will easily cross 1200. So watch out.

Verdict - Food was OK but when you get the bill, you get a feeling that its not worth it.

Superb value for money. Food is tasty. Ambiance is decent, the location is brilliant and so for people looking to hang out.

Food is nice.I wouldn't go so fat as to say its totally authentic. But yes, they do know what's authentic Mexican food, and are consciously making an effort in that direction . I had a fiesta platter and a burrito.
The former was way to indianised I felt in taste, the latter was nice ,but wasn't the burrito I had imagined. Although the mashed beans do taste very good, the taste did seem a tad bit Indian.

I'm a big fan of authentic Mexican food so keep scouting for good places.
Overall, a good plafe to eat. I'll come back again.

Oh and the Staff is supremely courteous. Hands down.

Have been a regular here since 2006. Almost a decade :) In fact this is the first place WE had dinner together :) That makes this place even more special. Hubby a great fan of mexican food, loves this place. He feels this is the only place that serves close to authentic mexican. Our orders here are pretty standard.

Veg Nachos - To my knowledge, the only place that serves fresh, thin light and crisp nachos and not the store bought/packet ones which are too salty and tangy. The nachos comes with loads of cheese and beans.

Margartitta - Strawberry & blackcurrant. They taste more like granitas :D But I like them. So no complaints. Especially the salted rim of the glass :)

Mexiskins - potato skins with veg fillings. The filling is yummilicious

Fiesta platter - U get to sample nachos, flautas and quesadillas. Total VFM considering the portion size.

Chimi changas - I've never seen hubby ordering any other main, other than this. That says it all. Basically, bean filled burritos, deep fried and topped with molten cheese. Served with mexican rice and salad. Just yumm. Some days, we end up sharing a single chimi changas and yet we were unable to finish up the lot :) Even the non - veg version (chicken) is equally good.

Chicken breasts in black pepper sauce - This is the only dish, which I feel lacks consistency here. The problem is only with the meat. Few times I had tough, hard to chew meat, which on notification was changed.

Chicken priyazo - My fav in the non veg section. Strips of chicken in black pepper sauce with loads of caramelized onion is simply yumm. Again the portion is huge (well atleast for me)

We mostly skip desserts here, as we always end up feeling till nose after main course. Another reason is that the desserts are from hot breads, downstairs which I'm not a big fan of. Once or twice happened to have the strawberry cheesecake as part of the set menu, which was nothing worth mentioning.

A special mention to the salsa. Its so fresh, that we end up having 2-3 servings extra :)

Pricewise, the damage would be around 1300-1500 bucks. Given the portion size and taste, I feel its okay. Service is a bit slow, but the staffs are very friendly and polite.

Best place to have mexican in Chennai.

P.S : Review is based on multiple visits.

One of the few restaurants in Chennai were authentic Mexican and Spanish dishes can be found. A very cosy place to have a quiet meal with a friend or a loved one. Situated above hot breads, you are sure to give it a miss. So did I. The lamb nachos made a perfect start for our dinner. We ordered GOD's child and virgin Mary for drinks which were black current and tomato juices apparently and didn't meet our standards. We ordered Zurich light which is pasta with chicken,Mexican sauce, melted cheese and garlic bread which was good actually. The service was quite warming and swift enough but the atmosphere was quite sober. A little music or some liveliness would have been good. And on a personal note for just one starter and a main course I dint find it pocket friendly.

This has to be the only joint where I have had Spanish and Mexican that was authentic. The sizzler here are also great. The food and experience is good. The mojito is my favourite there.

I can promise you that you can't get more authentic Mexican food in Chennai. Their salsa and guacamole is very good.I usually have the lamb nachos as a starter and the seafood burrito for my main course but you can't really go wrong whatever you order it's all good.

I hadn't heard of Don't Pepe till a fellow foodie on Zomato recommend it to me. Since the reviews also looked positive I decided to give it a shot. It is easy to give the restaurant a miss as it is surrounded by plenty of other restaurants....it is located above Hotbreads and beside Copper Chimney. The ambience and the place as such is plain. The service however is swift. It was deserted when we walked in so I don't know how they manage if there is a crowd.
We ordered a strawberry margarita (shocking pink in color!!!) which was more like a granita. We then ordered veg Nachos for appetizers....accompanied with salsa and jalepenos....both of which were delicious.
For the mains we ordered a Chim Chunga and a "versatile" burrito....both of which turned out to be a disappointment.... Probably since all had essentially the same filling (beans). Also the rice and cabbage accompanying it were bland.
Had we ordered something else ( say taco) we might have gotten to taste something different....I don't know....
Overall did not live up to my expectations based on the reviews....Taco bell chains serve better nachos.
Also I did not find it light on the pocket either....1069 for this.
I was in the vicinity looking for a bite. Then I came across Don Pepe. Tex-Mex was something I've been wanting to try for a really long time. Tex-Mex is completely alien to me, so I decided to flip through the menu. There were a few recognisable names, Tacos, Burritos, Nachos, etc. i've never tried them before. So I ordered Nachos and Tacos, when I bit in, the taste was Indianish.. The Tacos , tasted somewhat familiar(the filling), my mom who accompanied me there ,suggested that it tasted like a prasad she gave to people when they visited during Navratri (for tamilians to relate, it tasted like karamani sundal with a lot of spices and corn put together to form a semi solid consistency). Moving on to the nachos. It was very different from the nachos you get at Sathyam Theatre, with all the cheese and the filling from the nachos(yep same stuff).

Well, I can only give a proper rating for the food only after I eat actual Tex-Mex cuisine.

Until then,
Ambiance can get a 3.5( needs improvement)

Service gets 4.0

So we went on a weekday evening, and we're all big fans of Mexican food. And of course, Don Pepe, or Tex-Mex has been probably the only Mexican restaurant that's been here forever. Great food, I mean, really great. And the prices don't hurt anybody. It's a real shame that the place is almost always empty... :(

Must for Mexican food lovers! Amazing value for money! My friend and I were left gasping for space in our tummies when we stopped the dinner. Our hands were waiting for the bill which was to our surprise a low 300 per head!!! Totally acceptable given the quality!!!

Went with couple of friends for lunch. Always wanted to try Mexican as am a great fan of Italian and Portuguese cuisine. So visited this place in Gopalapuram.

The Ambience was good but not like I expected, actually felt kinda dull , a little music could have been better.

Coming to the food.. It was excellent. We ordered Quesadillas and flautas for starters and macaroni and pasta with white cream latter on. The food was really good and the quantity was sufficient too. But felt the price was little higher than it was supposed to be. May be the management can work on it.

Bottom line , a nice place for Mexican food if you are ready to spend a little extra.
My regular place for a Mexican food fix. I have been eating here from when the building used to be larger. The food was reasonably authentic to start with and over the years slipped to its present state. Portions seem to have gone down and prices up. People still go there and happily consume what they serve since its still spicy and close to Indian food.

Their salsa is still good, but at times they do not have Guacamole or Jalapenos, and their sour cream is always off.

Wonder why management takes no notice of these things.

A regular at this place for more than five years.
A small neat place on the first floor of hotbreads adjacent to the tapas bar. Lovely ambience.. Very kind staff. Quiet music and a big TV which always telecasts tennis whenever I go there"(don't know why)

Food is not that pricey. And tastes awesome. Don't miss the nachos with refried beans and the enchiladas.. Their sizzlers are the best! They serve unlimited accompaniments like the cream which is yummy with the nachos not a big fan of the guacamole though. Overall a must eat place for people in chennai who dig Mexican food

i was in the mood of having tacos and I happen to remember the taco bell of bangalore and after calling up a couple of places in chennai this place happened to have when I gave them a call and asked. Trust me it's not worth any thing. The authenticity of it is killed. I ordered for chicken tacos but it was totally indian in taste. No point of the taco being right when the filling is so bad.
The ambience is okay ! thought I could satisfy my taste buds. Was so so disappointed.

It is awesome, I would say if you want to taste typical Mexican good and that is the right place. Nachos with any combination are tasty, when compared with past they have reduced the cost but not cheaper. 4 adults and 1 child total bill was ₹1900. I would definitely suggest this place provided if they prefer to have Mexican food, people who look for Briyani, chinese then this is not a place.

Used to love this place and then actually was fortunate enough to have actual Mexican food in the us . returned back 2 years later to see my fav place had upped their prices and downgraded the quality of their food. Won't be visiting them any more.

Don Pepe i started a new habit of trying out international cuisine and Don Pepe was wer i strtd with Mexican Fud. the first on my list. I went on a sunday lunch and place was lil bit small than i had taut of ambience was gud . Hardly found 2 or 3 folks other than me and my frnd. We had chicken nachos for starter with extremely gud amount of mozzarella felt heavy aftr jus the starter itself. For main course my frnd tried stir fried chicked with cilantro &Roasted garilc was gud cud get a feel of tex mex style . I had rack of lamb california Style felt a bit Cheese flavour in the lamb eventhough they had mentioned (tossed in mint sauce). and had a frozen salad kinda thing which was a misfired attempt we cudnt have it the both of us . Then we decided tht not all experiments end well
Over all met my expectations ,but dint feel the the way adventurous .

Service: 3/5
Ambiance: 2.5/5
Food: 3/5
Value for Money: 3/5
Overall: 3/5

In mood to munch on Mexican food. Found Don pepe on Zomato and headed straight to hog on.
I expected the restaurant to have the Mexicano touch to it but sadly as the name sound so Mexican, the ambiance over there isn't Mexican at all.

I went there for Sunday lunch. The restaurant is pretty small and was very less crowded even though it was Sunday. Menu had some Authentic Mexican dishes which i had tried in UK. I had never had Seafood Nachos so ordered that as my starters to be on experimental side.
The very common but famous Mexican dish Fajita for main course. Seafood Nachos was a good starter with loads of Mozzarella cheese but very few pieces of tiny prawns. My friend and ordered Lamd with pepper sauce and the Lamb turned out very dry, the pepper sauce was good though. The wrap that came for the Fajita was very hard where it should be cotton soft. The Pepper chicken filling was good but was missing the spice. The sour cream, salsa and Guacamole was very nice.

Don pepe is ok for catching up with friends but strictly No for any Celebration.

Service: 3/5
Ambiance: 2/5
Food: 3/5
Value for Money: 3/5

we recently met here for lunch on Saturday. Not very busy so we had a good table and good service. Food is quite good, though their fajitas get crispy and very dry quickly. One may find the presentation of the dishes quite different from typical Mexican restaurants. I'd say this would qualify more like 'Indian Mexican'! Overall worth a visit especially with kids.

----- 10 Aug, 2013 -----

if you are looking for medican food with some indian twist this is the place. service is nice and fast. food is just avarage. it used to be really good but during a visit this week we noticed drop in quality and expensive.

The Chicken Burrito with Mexi Rice is Delicious. It is difficult to finish the dish alone. The service is a bit slow but the food is worth the wait.

Don Pepe though not new to me, have been here on earlier occasions predominantly for their amazing Nachos. So was always wanting to find the right opportunity to try more from their menu. Had to meet a friend over for lunch and decided to do it at Don Pepe. We ordered a Chicken Nachos for the starter and when served noticed that the Nachos are layered with chicken fillings and a delectable level of cheese. This is finally topped up with some veggies to provide the right amount of balance in the dish. We were also served with the traditional Mexican dips which included a Salsa Dip, Cream Cheese and Sliced Jalapenos. Both my buddy and myself wiped the dish clean.

The mains that we had ordered were Chicken n Nut Sauce and Chicken Fajita. We were wowed at the sheer brilliance of the dish and how colorful the dish and its accompaniments were. To start with, the Chicken n Nut sauce was perfectly flavored with the dish being not too spicy while at the same time not too bland either. Served with Crispy Potato Wedges and Mexican Rice, the dish was a palate filler. A palate filler and at the same time nice and light too. The fajita fillings had a sumptuous amount of chicken, along with a minced Chicken Tart, Crispy Potato Wedges and Mexican Rice. Three tortillas were provided in a sort of clay box. Based on his opinion, he seemed to have enjoyed the wraps and was too full to have rest of the accompaniments on his plate.
