Review Urban Desi House - Chennai (Madras)

Friendly staff and good place to hang out with friends and also for work. Decent rates but not every dish is that good. One should probably avoid the regular items that you expect at a normal restaurant. Go for new and uncommon ones.

Located in a street, this place can be missed easily but if you stop by there tea is worth it..except the tea there is a small menu to choose from but everything from that small menu is worth it. Rooftop is very cozy and the indoors have a very hippie vibe to it. Staff is also very helpfull.

I love eating new varieties of food, cuz why not? Life is too short to stick onto just one menu or a particular type of cuisine and if you're a foody you know why 😉 adventures are all the escape you need. 🖤 When I was invited to Urban Desi House I was a bit skeptical because of the name, but oh boy! How I regretted not going there earlier after I paid my first visit! From the theme to the ambience to the food... everything is just perfect! So perfect that it lifts your spirit and lightens your mood... No matter how bad your day was just retreat to Urban Desi House eat.sip.relax and trust me it's cheaper than all those expensive therapies and spa treatments. The place also hosts a number of shows if you're into entertainment and want a spot to showcase your talent. I've fallen heads over heels in love with this place, and it's now my happy place cuz they've good food, books, ambience, lights and most of all?! They're pet friendly!! How awesome is that?!!! So head over to Urban Desi House today! And give yourself the much needed break!! Follow them for updates on offers.. they're oh so tempting! 🔥😍 Try my favourites? Cutting chai, french toast sweet, Mexican Burritos and potato wedges 😍🔥

Don't know how I missed this till now. It's a must place to visit with a very good art work and good food. You can also pick a book from the list and keep reading it while enjoying the delicious food.

Beautiful place.A hidden gem, which is a must must visit if you are looking for a peaceful place to dine.Single,Couple, stressed or chilled out, it's vibes will definitely catch you of guard and make you wonder how good it would be if you ran a place like this too. The funky paintings on the wall and the entire setting makes it beautiful.Maybe it's a little costly, but the food quality is awesome and the feels and the music more than makes up for what you will be paying. Came here for the first time, first of the many for sure.

This place is a hidden gem in Chennai. Visited this place out of curiosity once and went back a million times just to chill with friends. The cutting chai is a must try. The owners are amazing people. Very friendly and courteous. This place is a big thumbs up!

Best place I have ever seen in Chennai. It's not only a place to eat. It's more then that. I can't explain this in this review. As a trainer I'm recommending my students to visit and utilizes it. Best place to share your knowledge and show up your talent. UDH have a stage here. It's suites for young people. Have to visit once then you'll never go anywhere. But menu is less😅.

Great place to hang out, make new friends, share inspiring ideas. You will meet many creative youth who will help you on your journey. They support a lot of start ups by hosting their events on a minimal budget. You feel part of a community when you go there repeatedly.

The first thing that made me love this place was that they greet you with some water and a bowl of peanuts... my favourite-est snack in the world. They won my heart with that. The rest of the food was good as well. Chow mien. Gobi parathas. Lots of people came to have Chola Battura... Apparently very famous here. The interiors are quirky but could use a coat of paint. The furniture and seating is very 'youth friendly'... meaning if you are on the wrong side of 40 you will have to find one with a back rest. Overall a great experience. BTW - the backyard seating is not available anymore. The service is excellent. To be noted are the cheerful, friendly staff, making sure your water glass is always full :)

This place is real good...the best in the town....do visit please...the staff and the CEO himself are so welcoming....this place is real comfy with the music and the theme design for the youth...food and beverages

A worth place to go.the best place in chennai. Taste like just home food in typical desi style. With a snacks instead of welcome drink. You may not find hot nd spicy biryani here but a delicious simple food one can have regularly without stomach upset.... Ambience really unique.

This is a great place with super friendly staff! I had given my paintings for an exhibition and they returned them to me well wrapped and with so much care! Love coming here!

Good place to hang around. Awesome cutting chai. Good food, however ask them to *taste it before severing you. They would replace if any issues. *Too much salt.

Believe me, you can't find a better cafe in town.Great food at a very affordable price and an amazing place to chill with your friends. The cafe comes up with interesting events too you will love them :) P.S : Try talking with the owner of the cafe he is one cool man :P

Excellent place to meet many productive people. Kudos to the Founder for promoting many upcoming artists through conducting many small events. The food and staff were amazing too. :)

Urban Desi house - experienced a homely feel but though a poorly maintained bad looking unhygienic home. Their food were bad too . Only time we felt happy when the restro provides less than the quantity we ordered. Also we have to correct the bill too. Only good thing is that u can co-work comfortable at a budget price. The restro has very good reviews so @management improve the standards.

Worst experience.. this should be marked as takeaway only... the folks there brazenly say items are only available on Swiggy but not in at the hotel even when they had so much place to sit....

Visited the restaurant today after reading all the good reviews. But soon realized that they do not know what's called as hospitality! I purchased a nearbuy coupon and when I just entered the restaurant, got a shock from them telling me that they don't accept nearbuy coupons..then why on earth do they still have it listed in nearbuy and misguide the poor customers? When I questioned this, Mr.Shehaj was so adamant in not accepting that and was talking on cancelling the voucher.. Also he said that this can be published wherever be it and this shows the amount of respect he has for the customers!

Great idea with big vision. Try the delicious and famous UDH Wada pav. It is the best place for the youngsters to carry on with their work. Also, Shehaj the host is the very humblest person among all. Do visit UDH with your friends for some chilling scenes 😉.

A cozy eatery in the streets of thoraipakkam . They have made the best out of the space and the device is pretty decent . Soothing lightings and desi interiors . However , the seatings are less and you can't hit the place with huge gangs or family . We tried<br/>1. cheesy jalapeno poppers - really good<br/>2. Chilli garlic potato pops - average .<br/>3. Vada pav - there was no vada in the vada pav and instead there was a thick layer of potato Subji . It was not very impressive.<br/>4 . Chole bhature - it was pretty good.<br/>VFM - 4/5<br/>Ambience - 3/5<br/>They give you student discounts and it's a nice concept .<br/>

It's a place where you go to for hanging out. I like their tea more than the food. know not why! Ambiance gives you a rusty look. <br/><br/>Food - 3/5<br/>Ambiance - 3/5

One of the most amazing places to have encountered in my life....great food, great ambience and above all the amazing people I get to meet here every single time I walk in through their doors. The crew there are already your friends by the time you have a sip of their amazing chai. It's been almost 3 years and it has come to a point where I run my business from there as they support co-working and infact spend more time there than anywhere else ! I guess a great combination of food + chai + great ambience + amazing people is irresistible. one of the posters inside said " warning! If your here once you'll be found here again and again" , indeed true
Anugraha Natarajan
A cozy place to chill or work out of. Loved their lemon mint ice tea and the chilly garlic potato poppers with cheese! The Mom's style paneer paratha was so delicious that we couldn't wait for it to cool down! Amazing lunch experience!!

Awesome place to just relax and sip a chai. And they've buy one get one for masala chai. The chai came along with the ParleG. And you can connect to their WiFi and work. Their potato wedges were also good.
Neelanjan Sinha
Very okayish food, not the kind you would expect to eat in a restaurant. Got misled by some of the reviews, don't think would visit ever again. Only silver lining was the cutting chai (and the Parle G along)
Anil Kumar
Tiny place. Budget friendly. Interior decor was nice. Food was ok. Limited menu. Ordered chicken burrito was bit salty, lemon ice tea was more of mint, jalapeno cheese balls were fried so much it broke into pieces when using fork. Paratha and lassi were nice. Mosquitoes under the table. You also have outdoor seating.
Ashutosh Chhetri
It all about something different that you find and this place it quite a kind of different .I mean you can see there theme it is very appealing . Decent selection of dishes in menu all together a nice place to chill .

Urban Desi House located in the Sai Nagar ,while you walk straight on the left it is.<br/>The place is well lit and we'll decorated for a funky look.<br/>The menu is too short and you have hardly much food to order from.<br/>The coffee wasn't that good and the other rolls were good and filling.<br/>Overall a good place to sit and hangout.<br/>Needs improvement in the menu and food.<br/>
Rasiks Chelo
Very poor food options and quality of food isn’t great at all! Their service were terrible as well!! No value for money! Should improve!! Disappointed!

Definitely an amazing place for Chole bhature lovers. Compact place with a low budget menu. Must try vada paav and chole bhature. They also serve amazing tea in different flavors. Any time good to go cafe.

Place which is famous for hangout with your friends.<br/>Best part of this place is interior with decoration and music they maintain.<br/><br/>Only the saddest part is Service is slow.
Ankita.singh57
The chicken combo which i have ordered the chicken curry was terrible, the pieces were very very hard and chewey.. i have a doubt that it was chicken or somthing else.

Egg bhurji Paav slider with & without cheese, both are good. Parathas are tasty. Overall good food, not at all heavy & not overloaded with oil, butter etc.

Urban Desi House. Finally made it to this place on a rather calm Friday night. The place literally bowled us over with their well done up, quirky interiors and the amazing food.<br/><br/>For the start, we ordered their Cutting chai which was served with a small pack of Parle-G for a nice touch of nostalgia.Among the starters, we chose the Potato Wedges with cheese for the starters, and they proved to be an excellent choice. The wedges were coated in masala with generous layer of cheese on top of them. Tasted so refreshing and was served piping hot, excellent would be an understatement.<br/><br/>For the mains, the orders were their chilli chicken burrito, scrambled eggs burrito combo, butter chicken combo and to wash them down, their house special Red Bull Iced Tea and Masala Coke. The scrambled egg burrito combo included scrambled eggs burritos*2 and a mint lime, and the butter chicken combo had 2 wheat parathas and a small helping of butter chicken, plus the mint lime.<br/><br/>The burritos were kickass with the right mix of veggies, cheese and yummy chilli chicken for the chilli chicken burrito and scrambled eggs for the other one. The portions were huge and one combo can be easily shared by two persons. The butter chicken combo also tasted good, nothing to complain there too.<br/><br/>Among the drinks, the masala Coke was ok, with the chaat masala flavour dominating the drink. The house special Red Bull Iced tea, However, proved to be the winner among the drinks with perfect sweetness and with a refreshing dash of Red Bull. Best thing to have after a tiresome day of work.<br/><br/>Finally,for the desserts,we chose the brownie bash(2 Nos.),which was brownies served with two scoops of vanilla ice cream. They were heavenly and the brownie was of perfect consistency with the right chocolatey flavour, topped by chocolate chips and powdered sugar. Which makes us realize that you don't need an elaborate menu with a huge no of dishes, you just need to serve what you do with the best of what you got,and everything else falls into place.<br/><br/>All these set us back by Rs.1250 which is like absolute VFM and we were so full by the end of it all. Attaching a picture of the bill.<br/><br/>Upon chatting with the owner, he said that they host Open Mic night on Tuesdays and that they've got a lot of events amd stuff going on. Will be sure to checkout the same. Managed by The Indian Youth Café project which aims to create spaces to host talented performers, they've got a winner with this one. I'd say the place deserves to be right at the top of Chennai food scene with their unique menu, interesting décor and the great theme that deserves to be recognised.
Gopalakrishnan NT
The quality was poor. Potato Wedges was soaked in oil. And all the food were packed when the food was being hot, so the condensed water got into the container itself.

I was very glad that we decided to go to UDH yesterday for dinner. We were not in a mood to go to some big fancy restaurant but something that represents street food. The ambience was fabulous and very apt. Really enjoyed the parathas, vadapav and chole Batura. The icing on the cake is definitely the cutting Chai which was awesome and probably the best I had in Chennai. A great place to relax..

Not as expected ( too small )<br/>Food is fine but very late arrival <br/>Service is too bad<br/>Worst part is that they don't serve drinks with ice (they just think they do but they don't 😅 actually)

This place has a lot of heart put into it. Loved the decor. Music was a bit loud but that's ok.<br/>I'm not sure if this is the case here, but there was a limited menu. We didn't notice that we'd have to place the order at the counter, so if you are a first timer keep that in your mind. We ordered chole bature, laccha paratha combo and Mirchi wali Potato wedges to start of with.<br/>The laccha paratha and chole bature were too good. The potato wedges was a REAL mirchiwali so go for the other types if you aren't a fan food that's on the spicier side.<br/>There was a lassi that came with the laccha paratha combo which was good too. We asked for an extra glass to share the lassi amongst us and they obliged, so extra marks for the service.<br/>After all this i couldn't restrain myself so I went for the UDH style vada pav. And boy would i have regretted if I hadn't ordered it. Great way to end the meal.<br/>All this came to around 350rs. All in all it is a great place to checkout, of all the things I said I think the wait for food to reach your table once you've placed the order might be on the high side, it was empty when we order so imagine it might get even late if the place is crowded.<br/>

One of the Best places to hangout in Chennai.<br/>It's different in a good way, limited menu but best to its taste and price!<br/>Food-4/5<br/>Value for mone-5/5<br/>Service & ambience-5/5

This place has been in my bookmark for a really long tym and finally i got an opportunity to visit here one evening. They have 3 different seating option terrace, porsch and indoor. Very colourful full and cozy place. An apt place fr relaxed eve😍<br/><br/>Orders: 3 vada pavs which was very yummy with a lot of butter on top<br/>1 classic maggi: yummylacious served in silver tiffen box with fried onions for toppings<br/>1 masala cola: a glass of coke with jaljeera masala powder it was different and good<br/>2 regular chai: best chai ever served along with my fav parle g biscuit😍😍 total bill was jus Rs. 284<br/><br/>

The ultimate desi food could be tasted here. They have outdoor, indoor and rooftop seating available. The vada Pav and Lacha paratha were very delicious, added to it lassi is mouthwatering which is to be tasted.Interiors are good and also they provided lemon juice as complimentary drink and also they do provide free wife from 12-6 I suppose.Smokers have a place with tray.Countable menu with good taste.

A very pocket friendly & quirky cafe.<br/>Urban Desi House looks raw, but is equally sorted. There are a lot of places to sit, on cut tree logs, normal chairs, stools, on the rooftop, and where not.<br/>Indian snacks, burritos, sandwiches, and many other main courses are available there. You can play board games along with your friends, and also read some books. The service is a bit slow paced, maybe because I was there on an afternoon.<br/>Cheese was not available when I went, this was a let down, as I could not order some of the other stuff.<br/>I had ordered vada pav, chicken mayo sandwich and a kit-kat shake.<br/>The food was okay, but the shake was very nice.<br/><br/>Ambiance: 4.5/5<br/>Food: 3/5<br/>Service: 3/5

I came to know about this place through Zomato when they opened years ago. I decided to try this place and went in the first week of January but it was closed. After that finally I made it to this place today. This place is easy to locate. Just backside street of Pind near Chennai one toll.<br/><br/>Parking is manageable in roadside. Ambiance is different and good. Outside seating is also available. A board at entrance says even backyard and portico seating is also available which I didn't check. I opted for inside AC seating.<br/><br/>Place was bit hot despite AC. When enquired, they informed me to sit in another table stating some issue in AC. One TV was there in which POGO!!!! channel was running. On top of it some music were played in background.<br/><br/>I was waiting for waiter to take order but didn't turn up when enquired they asked me to come near podium to give order which was unusual. Later saw a board in other tables which is missing in my table that we need to place an order at podium.<br/><br/>First shock came when I look at the menu. It is just one page as against several pages in Zomato. Very few items were their in menu. Even in that some are not available. Please update your menu in Zomato to reveal correctly.<br/><br/>Finally placed order for sprouts salad 🥗, UDH style Vadapav, Mom's style aloo paratha without butter and masala lemonade. Service was decent. Food was served in reasonable time.<br/><br/>While waiting for food saw a notice in wall which says Stand up comedy on Tuesday and some other event on Friday night. When enquiry they informed that it is free. Just need to pay for what we eat. Interesting one. Immediately liked their Facebook page to get updates. Need to go for some event when free.<br/><br/>Now comes the food part -<br/><br/>Sprouts Salad 🥗 - the green gram were germinated while other one is not. Taste was good with apt lemon 🍋 flavour. However small green chilli pieces added to it spoils it. Need to carefully remove it and eat to avoid spiciness.<br/><br/>UDH style Vadapav - It was good in taste. Vadapav was accompanied by chilli and mint Chutney. Pav was really good with Ghee taste.<br/><br/>Mom's style Aloo Paratha without butter - It was Thicker than I expected. Aloo masala inside is too high in quantity. Salt level in it need fine tuning. Here again green chilli pieces make it spicy and spoils the taste. Paratha was accompanied by onions, curd topped by chilli powder and pickles which are good.<br/><br/>Masala lemonades - It was just ok. Had better one in many places.<br/><br/>Price was reasonable. In a board placed in table it was mentioned as 10% discount on weekdays between 12-6 but couldn't find such discount in bill. When enquired, they told that offer is no longer available. Nevertheless it is still reasonable. Pocket friendly place considering the ambiance etc.

We went here just for the food, looking at the extensive menu.. We were in for a surprise and a disappointment.. Surprise was it was more than an eatery, it was a place for like minded people to collaborate, held open mics on tuesday's, shared space for work at a nominal cost per hour. Disappointment was that they have curtailed the menu to a bare minimum essentials.<br/>Ambience 4/5: The ambience was uber cool, chic and contemprory at the ground floor. It had wall art, low rise seating, normal seating, books to read and games like Jenga to play. There is also seating outside and on the first floor which I havent seen yet.<br/>Food 3.5/5: From the bare minimum spread we ordered for the vada paav and chai combo, classic maggi and aloo paratha. The vada paav was like an inspiration of the maharashtrian delicacy so did not have the classic vada, but had wn aloo patty and also had mayonnaise. If you forget the fact that they called it a vada paav, you will enjoy an indianised version of a burger. The aloo paratha was served piping hot with a generous dose of butter, curd, onions and pickles. It was super tasty, but I suspect it was the same potato filling used in the vada pao. The classic maggi was given in a tiffin box which enhanced the nostalgia factor. The crispy onion toppings added were super yum. The best thing abt the menu is the amazing chai that they serve. Its an amazing concoction that hits all the right senses. They also have few non-veg items and drinks, shakes etc, which we could not taste.<br/>@Service 2.5/5: The first time we went on a weekend afternoon, the place was empty. The service was attentive and prompt. The second time we went on a weekday evening. It was crowded and that's when cracks in the kitchen and service started showing up. The mayonaise topping in the vada pav was missed in mine but my wife had it in hers. The green chutney which accompanied the vada paav the first time was missed. The much loved onion topping in the classic maggi was less generous than earlier. Water was not provided. The consistency needs to be there in service.

Such a chill spot! Really great food for great prices <br/>The best Masala Chai and vadapaav at omr! <br/>The burrito is stuffed right 💯 well done and we'll served🌟

For a change, we decided to go someplace cheap and not so restaurant type. So finally we decided to eat here. They have modified a small house to a cafe which was well commensurated with interiors and lighting. Now coming to the ambiance, I'll be very blunt about it, its not a  cafe with great ambiance and believe me after entering the cafe our first impression wasn't so great. It's a small place with limited seating. That's the one thing they could really work on!<br/><br/>Now the food, contrary to the ambiance, the food was very good. I mean we ordered-<br/>-aloo paratha*<br/>-paneer burrito<br/>-wada pav*<br/>-chole bhature*<br/>-lacha paratha combo*<br/>-chicken combo<br/><br/>* recommended<br/>Lassi with veg combo, chole bhature and wada pav were the stars of the night.Though wada pav was not the authentic Maharashtrian wada pav but more of a tikki burger but still it was tasty.Overall it was a nice experience to have dinner here.

Disappointed seeing very few items in the menu.<br/>KitKat shake was watery and wasn't up to the mark.<br/>Could improve the quality of the food and the menu served.

Great food, economic prices. Perfect for cheap weekend getaway.<br/>Must try the stuffed parantha and burritos.<br/>The staff is very polite and friendly.

Been there quite a few times.<br/>They've pulled of quite a good setup of a tiny small congested house. Ambience is filled with modern Bollywood / art posters and wall hangings.<br/><br/>Food tasted very good.<br/>Must try: Lachcha paratha + chicken gravy<br/>Budget friendly.

A group of 7 visited this place few days back and were very disappointed. The menu card shown in Zomato is completely different from their menu card there. The ambience looked colourful. But there was nothing to eat. We just ordered a KitKat milkshake but it was not satisfactory. Had to move out of the place. I'm adding the picture of their menu card.<br/>Please don't cheat us!!!

Nice place with friendly people, the owner guy is chill, they maintain a good positive vibe.. nice place to chill, the price is also very normal

Attempt of a good cool concept. But pathetic food and service.<br/>My sister and I ordered a chicken item, rajma and rice. The chicken was half cooked and rajma were not properly boiled. On complaint, the waitress did replace rajma with chana, but that was too a big disappointment. <br/>We eventually had to leave the food and step out.

Constructed out of a quaint old home is Urban Desi House which is a cafe kind of place with quirky ambiance. It is a miniscule set up but gives a trendy feel about it with it's colourful attire and zany wall arts.<br/><br/>The menu has a host of burritos apart from a few selective starters and North Indian fare. We ordered a few items but on most counts it was just average with nothing bowling us over.<br/><br/>The chilli panneer was quite nice though the cottage cheese pieces appeared slightly burnt. I however didn't mind the slightly smoky taste. The bread cheese pakoda was one of the better items of the day being crunchy and loaded with potatoes. Their signature fare viz burritos didn't really appeal much. We ordered a corn cheese version with the chapathi roll being quite dry and the cheese content felt less as a substitute to corn. The potato wedges masala were on expectant lines and can pass off as a good snack muncher. The egg thali I felt was pretty pedestrian. It wasn't really rich on taste and most of the items lacked salt and tasted a little dour. And to finish off the buttermilk wasn't really flavourful. <br/><br/>On the whole it was a sub par affair. I expected a slightly better experience. The service was lacking with regard to clearing plates and refilling water. Also they didn't seem to have some of the items on the menu. The pricing is par for the course and not really something that would set you back.<br/><br/>Overall, a decent place to head to in this neck of the woods though food and service can be improved upon considerably.
Deepthi Tanikella Vinod
to chicken was chewy and hard. paneer looked like it got thrown into the gravy from the freezer few minutes before. I am ordering from this place for the first time and I would love to see if they improve the second time I order.
Sanjeev.chandramouli
Lovely place in a quiet neighbourhood. It has both indoor and outdoor seating with pretty lights on the terrace. The only ‘complaint’ is that one has to order at the counter, which might be inconvenient when sitting in the terrace.
Kartheek S Raju
Awesome place for chill out. Hang out with our friends, closed one. It will give you a environment experience that no Cafe can give you. Fantastic place to have fun with our frnds gang. Nice experience.

It’s a small place but loved the interiors. Loved the way they had modified a small house to a funky desi joint. We ordered the crispy egg onion rings potato wedges chilli chicken burrito jalebi and cutting chai. The food reminds you of evenings snacks made at home for tea time. But what we did not like was the green chutney given with all the dishes. It was too strong and didn’t go with all the dishes. The quantity is really good for the price. Loved the jalebi the best. On should definitely try that when they visit. Overall a thumbs up!!
Jingu Pingu
It's a house converted to a restaurant. Close to 200 feet road toll. A small place with different interior. Food average. Didn't taste good. Whatever v ordered qas bit salty for all four of us who went for a Friday lunch. The thali made me very full n i wasn't in hungry for dinner , which made me suspicious. Price little on d higher side for it's standard.
Abhishek Dhakare
Changing my rating from 2 to 1 sitting in the restaurant.<br/><br/>There aren't any options in their menu, specifically the dishes they are famous for. <br/><br/>Additionally the staff is uncooperative. <br/><br/>Ambience ****<br/>Food quality *<br/>Menu *<br/>Service *

Tea and Rusk, Books and Music, Spending time here is like spending time at your home. Yes no difference in it, it is house turned into cafe with some mixture of Wall posters. There is no proper maintenance I guess. <br/><br/>Service Gals are good, snack items need improvement, not satisfying the taste buds.
Rajathilagam Velmurugan
Went there for a stand up comedy show. In the meanwhile I ordered a cardamom Chai and a paneer burrito. The taste was good and what I loved about this place is the ambience. The funky interior decor and the music pumping was good for anyone to sit with a laptop and do their work. A fun place to visit for sure

Feeling sorry to write this review about this non edible food I had the misfortune of ordering this Monday afternoon. Firstly I placed an online order for rajma chawal and the restaurant didn't have it so I asked them to send me Paneer butter masala and rice instead. The paneer dish was swimming in oil and one bite of it made sure I felt sick. <br/>I also ordered mom style patato wedges which were nothing close to the title and were completely Overly fried instead of baked and Infact burnt. (See photo). I ordered misi roti which was completely undone and the bitter taste of the batter was prominent. Order at on own risk !

So Average Experience...Average Food, Average Ambience, Average Service and also Average location; therefore Average rating in this Average review :-p on an Average day...

To start off its a small place with limited seating. The interiors of the place is nice. The food is average and good enough for a one time visit. We had a lot of expectations hence the experience was okay. We ordered some cheesy potato wedges which weren't cheesy enough. Next we had a chili chicken burrito which was fine and for main course we ordered chicken gravy which could have been so much better. Finally we had milkshakes which undoubtedly were THE WORST milkshakes we've ever had. KitKat shake and Choco nutty shake. Basically tasted like horlicks. The presentation of everything was just average.

We went looking at the rating of 3.5.. grossly disappointed. Let me start with the ambience, it was good, something fresh. But the place itself was dirty, the tables were sticky because of which I don't intend to head back. Then we ordered vada pav, egg fried rice, chilli mushroom, lemon chicken, chicken curry with rice and a coffee.<br/>The food tasted below average and it even felt muddy. The quality was unacceptably low. Chicken smelt raw and gravy and rice were tasteless.<br/>To top it all off, even the coffee was bad :(<br/>Won't risk again.

Good place to relax. But they have to improve the quality. You get rusk with cutting tea.. tat is the gud thing. I liked rusk but not the Tea. chicken Leena sandwich which we ordered was told dry, just the filling was gud, bread was too hard and dry. <br/><br/>Service 3.5<br/>Food and drinks 2.5<br/>Ambience 3

UDH( urban design house) it's a casual outlet for small lunch, dinner and especially evening munches... The complimentary roasted peanuts were very tasty... Teas are perfect in blend.... Nice and casual ambience to hangout with your friends

Polite staff, prompt service, cool place to hangout regularly without making a hole in your pocket. Shakes were good as well as the burritos.

Quality of food is not so good. <br/>Chai varieties are good.<br/>Chilled out interiors. A 3BHK flat is turned into a restaurant.<br/>Good work by the owners on making the place look good.

Very good ambience and quality of food is awesome. Quantity is quite more so be careful while ordering else you might waste something. Would recommend for everyone and especially for people who want to try different things.

Food- have tried burritos, rajma chawal, noodles, fried rice, paneerchilly, shakes. The food is good. Burritos and rajma chawal have a very home made subtle taste. Paneer chilly could have been better. Fried rice and noodles are typical desi style Chinese items here.shakes are great.<br/>Delivery- prompt delivery within 40mins.<br/>Seating-cute seating with a typical cafe aura. Although it is a bit cramped up.<br/>Cost- very pocket friendly<br/>

This place is just a house that has been creatively renovated. Labelling it under the 'themed restaurants' is totally a farce. There is hardly any space to walk around. If you take two quick steps in a fast pace, you reach the end of the restaurant. <br/><br/>They took too long to deliver the order but then the hospitality was good. Mushroom burritos and aloo burritos was what we had. They tasted fine, though not the best.<br/><br/>We ordered a combo that had Parathas, Paneer butter masala and lassi. The combo was really nice, with no complaints.<br/><br/>Food is a bit overpriced for this type of average ambience.

nice place.... decent for a quick hangout but not a place for big group... on a friendly note I expected a cushion chair or comfort zone to eat stuff... chilli potato a good start... music was loud had to shout to talk... based on my friends reviews would try out again for better experience.. let's see..

Went here for a quick Chai break. Located close to OMR toll Plaza and 200 feet road. <br/><br/>Ambience - This is actually a house turned into a restaurant. Interior and ambience is quirky but looks very good 👍 and this place can be used as co working space as well. They are about to start an open art Gallery where they have collaborated with local artists to showcase their work at this place, very good initiative 👌<br/><br/>Food - I wanted to try something lite but unfortunately lite items like vada pav and maska bun were not available. The Gentleman at the cash counter suggested me to try fried cashews, so I ordered a portion of fried cashews and a regular cutting Chai. After placing orders, they first served water with small portion of complimentary salted peanuts. Little later fried cashews arrived and it was bad taste and smelled like old stock, in fact the salted peanuts tasted better than cashews. The cutting Chai was really good 👍 and along with Chai they served another complimentary item, this time it was Rusk. Bill for this both item was 60 rupees. <br/><br/>Service was very friendly and attentive 👍<br/><br/>Overall it was a very good experience. Definitely coming back here to have full meal

There are times in life when u really feel happy from the inside and it is even more rare that the happyness comes from the pleasant tickling of your taste buds when you eat something simple but so amazing...This is what i felt when i tasted urban desi house.I ordered butter chicken and phulkas and their speciality"ma ke haath ka" potato wedges.Butter chicken was the best that i have tasted till now and can give any dhaba in amritsar a run for its money.Service was good and the delivery guy saying"Enjoy your meal sir" with a smile is something rare that you see for a delivery joint. I got to know that this is a startup of few IT professionals and me being one can really appreciate the effort that these guys would have taken to set this up and the guts to continue it.<br/><br/>People,Try out this place not for anything fancy but simple ghar ka khaana and motivate people like them to come out of the cliched work regime abd try something new.<br/><br/>Taste-5/5<br/>Service-4 + 1for the smile<br/>Delivery time-5

WHERE : #URBAN_DESI_HOUSE.<br/><br/>The place is yoooudddhful, thats how they describe themselves. the resto is kind of quirky yet colourfully done with a lot of doodles and spray painting.<br/>it is defintely the place where you could hang out with your bestie and talk all day long without being shooed away :p<br/>the place has free wi -fi too. coming to the food part :<br/><br/>1.) BREAD PAKORAS - numma ooru bread bajji dhan but it has potato stuffing which would make you feel full, until the next two skipped meals. Rs : 45/-<br/><br/>2.)THE REAL ALOO TIKKI BURGER - i was already feeling so full that i had to take it a bit slow, okayish taste _49/-<br/><br/>3.)COLD COFFE ; you will drink it until you hav a look on the mug's interior. It wasnt so hygienic or pleasing to look at it. 65/-<br/><br/>4.) GUD WALI CHAI ; The tea was way too bitter. there was a complimentary rusk attached, which should be left on the table as such i guess. not good either! 23/-<br/><br/>5.) SHAHI PANEER BURRITO - my friend who devoured it said it was okay again. 93/-<br/><br/>PLUS: <br/>*INTERIOR<br/>*SEATING<br/>*WIFI<br/>*ECONOMICAL FOOD ( total food bill came upto 275/- )<br/><br/>MINUS :<br/>*HYGIENE <br/>*TASTE OF FOOD

Have ordered Chicken Noodles from this place couple of times. Nice taste, decent quantity & pocket friendly. If you need a light dinner or if you wanna hangout with your friends in the evening, this place is certainly recommended.

A couple of my friends decided to meet up for lunch.. The place is a little inside.. But with google maps you'll be sorted.. Its a nice small cosy place turned from a house to a restaurant! <br/>They have a quirky décor going through.. They've got the walls painted with random stuff.. And its pretty dim lit..<br/>Coming to the food.. We wanted to try a couple of Burritos.. But none of the burrito was available! <br/>We settled for Moms style aloo paratha.. This was nice and yum.. The filling was a little under seasoned! It came with curd..<br/>Moms style Gobi Paratha.. This was yum as well.. Just your nice and yum paratha..<br/>The quantity of both was ALOT.. Way more than what we expected..<br/><br/>We also tried the Laccha paratha veg combo and chicken combo.. Both were nice.. And the lassi it came with was yum yum!<br/>Over all a good place to just sit and hog with out a burn in your pockets!<br/><br/>Will try to go again for the burritos!

Urban desi house is actually a house converted into a restaurant. They tried to make it as funky as possible with graffiti and funky music and it has worked out pretty well. The ambience of this place is pretty good. We were welcomed with salted peanuts and water. But the seating provided to us were not very comfortable. The seats were low lying benches which were very uncomfortable. Coming to the food, we ordered chilli mushroom and veg noodles burrito. Both of them were average and not very exceptional. Lots of cheese were added to both so cheese lovers may definitely try it. We then ordered a potato honey chilli dry. This one was very good. Must try. <br/> The shakes disappointed us very much. The names were catchy but the shakes were not even a percent thick. It was just normal milk with some chocolate powder mixed with it. Oreo shake didn't even have any Oreo taste in it. It was just plain chocolate milk.<br/><br/>To sum up<br/>1) The ambience is very good<br/>2) The burritos were not very special but were not bad either. Cheese lovers can definitely try them<br/>3) Potato honey chilli dry is a must try<br/>4) Seating was not very good. It may be very uncomfortable<br/>5) Shakes were very disappointing.

Not a good experience at all. UDH veg club sandwich shud have been the best dish as u attach the cafe name to the dish. But Complete disappointment. Homemade bread butter tastes better. <br/>Cold coffee was very thin and not cold. Had to ask for cooling it further. Chilly chicken was chewy rubbery chicken. Egg rice was just OK. <br/>Very Small place near the toll area inside a small street. 3.7 is over hyped rating; not justified at all. They serve u crap for cheap price. Not recommended.

Love the ambience. Love the food and most importantly loved the price <br/><br/>Ordered : Butter Chicken burrito - was really buttery, felt like butter chicken wrapped in a roll. <br/>Chicken Do pyaza burrito - if u like chicken do pyaza then u will love it, i personally felt that the 'pyaaz' was a little bit more. <br/>Fried Chicken burrito - Fried chicken was also very tasty i liked tis among the ones i ordered. <br/><br/>Drinks: Virgin lemonade, masala lemonade and masala cola. All the three were very good an dmy personal favorite is masala lemonade. <br/><br/>Beverages: Real coldest coffee : Too good.

Small home converted into a hangout restaurant.. <br/>Place in near chennai 1 tollgate ..<br/>Ambience wasn't great but graffiti was fab ..Went with 3 of my friends and Ordered :<br/>Chicken curry house meal <br/>Chilli chicken burrito <br/>Kabuli channa burrito<br/>Chole bhature<br/><br/>Loved the cumin rice with chicken gravy ... Chicken was tender and tasted excellent .. <br/>Bhature wasn't oily but chole lacked the spice...<br/>Kabuli channa burrito lacked overall taste and was very dry ..<br/>Liked the Chilli chicken burrito .. even though the burrito was hard, the chicken was spicy thus tasted well ... <br/>Bill was about 480 for 4 ... Very reasonable.. <br/><br/>Very pocket friendly and good place to hang out with friends <br/>

I've been noticing this place popping up in Zomato often but somehow missed to pay a visit for a long time. Finally when we wanted to have some good food that would go light on our pockets, I remembered seeing this place in the "Pocket-friendly places" list. That's the story of how we ended up paying this place a visit. <br/><br/>Location - There were instances before, when we wanted to visit them previously and ended up somewhere totally irrelevant. This was when we did not have access to Google maps. Finally with the help of Google maps (even then after some struggle), we found this place. It's located inside a calm street near Chennai One toll. Really difficult to locate. <br/><br/>Parking - Parking for both cars and bikes can be done on the street. There's ample space since this is a residential area. <br/><br/>Ambience - There are so many wordings hanging all over the place to attract the young crowd. It is a small, old house converted into a restaurant. This place definitely needs renovation. The place is too small and cramped. There's very less space to even walk inside. There are two kinds of seating- Tall, comfortable, normal chairs & tables. The next type is low and I mean too low almost touching the floor kind of seats and tables according to that height. Unfortunately, since the place was crowded and there was no other table, we had to sit in the low tables and it was so very uncomfortable and we struggled a lot to finish our meal. To top with this, the AC was straight above our head and it was spitting out water every once in a while! The place also didn't smell good. I don't know if maybe it was because there was too much crowd inside a small area or maybe because of something else, but I hated that smell. If I try to recollect my experience here, I feel like it was suffocating. <br/><br/>Service - We have to place our orders at the counter and our orders will be bought to our table. These people teach us what patience means. Maybe the service was slow due to the fact that the place was crowded. But still waiting for 30 minutes for a fried rice and 45 minutes for the sides that we ordered to have along with it, made us lose our appetite. Within the 15 minutes gap of the main dish being delivered and the sides being delivered, the main dish got cold and we couldn't enjoy it much. The person at the counter did apologise for the delay while paying our bill. However, we accepted his apology and left the place without having any dessert as we couldn't sit there more than an hour. I guess there is less manpower inside the kitchen. <br/><br/>Food - The menu is wide consisting of several varieties of items. We were confused as to what to order! Finally, our orders were: <br/>👉 Indian Style Chicken Chowmein - This was basically noodles topped with lots of chicken peices. We had to mix it and then eat it for the masala to get mixed along with the noodles. The quantity was ample for one well eating adult. <br/>👉 Indian Style Chicken Fried Rice - This was the same as the Chowmein. Only difference was this had rice instead of noodles. The quantity, quality everything was the same as the Chowmein. <br/>👉 Chilli Chicken (Gravy) - The quantity was ample with this one too. It wasn't as spicy as expected. However, the chicken peices were huge and boneless. It was worth the money. <br/>👉 Chilli Chicken (Dry) - This was better than the gravy one, tastewise. However, this lacked the expected spiciness as well. This had the same kind of huge, boneless chicken peices. The quantity was really good for the price they demand. <br/><br/>Paid ₹508/-. The thing that I liked the most about this place is that they don't add any additional/hidden charges at the time of billing. Whatever is on the menu is what we'll have to pay. This would be very helpful for people like me who calculate for how much we have ordered and how much we can still order. <br/><br/>Not recommended for families or couples. Can visit with a group of friends to sit back and relax at a cheap cost. Also, not recommended to visit when you are in a hurry to eat. <br/><br/>Location - 2/5 <br/>Parking - 2.5/5 <br/>Service - 2/5 <br/>Ambience - 1.5/5 <br/>Food - 4/5 <br/>Pricing - 4/5 <br/>VFM - 3/5

The following review is based on my online order experience : <br/><br/>Had ordered Potato balls and Veg Chowmein.<br/><br/> Potato balls were yum and they wrre crisp out and softer inside. They were really flavourful.<br/><br/>Chowmein was okayish. It was a bit too oily. Could have been better. It was nice of them to give two sachets each of tomato and chilli sauce. Most restaurants I have ordered so far don't provide them.<br/><br/>They also charge a delibery fee of Rs.40, which I think is a bit much considering my address is closer to the restaurant. Other than the delivery charges, all the items are reasonably priced and easy on your pocket. Worth trying.<br/>

Went to this place a few weeks ago. It is a small place with a great ambiance. I like  the  quotes and painting which were decorating this place. <br/><br/>The Food:<br/>We ordered butter paneer  burritos, chill chicken burritos, corn & cheese burritos with kit kat shake and cadbury chocolate shake. I was hoping for a great show but it was a flop one. Both shakes were like milk+cocoa powder. The stuff inside the burritos started sneaking out as soon as i lifted my share to have a bite. Moreover, burritos were way too spicy; we somehow managed to finish what we ordered though.<br/><br/>Experience:<br/>The place is pocket friendly. The ambiance is awesome. Food disappointed me though! <br/>I wish you have a better experience at this place.

Rating on the scale of 5 <br/>1.ambience - 3.5 <br/>2.service - 3<br/>3.food quality - 3.5<br/>4. Price - 4<br/><br/>Value for money! Best hangout place for buddies! <br/>Happy dine out!!!

This café offers variety of spicy food. .🤗 Lacha parantha combo is a good option cause the paneer gravy is perfectly thick with fresh paneer cubes. Have the acharr Mirchi and pyaz don't ignore. It adds to the taste .they have reasonable rates. The lemon chicken noodles are great too. Chole rice are okay . The chole over here feels a bit uncooked and hard to chew . And gravy also is less. Veg cheese balls are nice. Onion rings are also fine for the starters. The paranthes are good to have. Also the aloo tikki burger a nice option . The service is good too. Nice small place to have your snacks as well .

OMG.... Totally impressed.   <br/>A new diversion in town. <br/>Voracious readers and foodies in town, what if I tell……<br/>Lovely ambience. Food is also great. When it comes the combo of good food n ambience it is totally worth for your money. This is a must visit place, if you are in ChennaiI .Once i visited on a Saturday evening, the place was filled by few people who were engrossed in work. The atmosphere uplifted me, and I really felt good. I ordered for some hot beverage, as the evening was cool, the food is awesome. Pricing is on the higher side, but you can visit this place once and have a great experience.More than the food itself the privacy you get at this place is what keeps it going..

Was waiting for a long time to dine here. Anyway the experience was good and so was the food there. Loved the ambience and the atmosphere there is quiet different from the hustle and bustle of the busy life. Prices were good enough. Only thing is the location,it's quiet difficult to spot so using gps would rather help. :)

You must try burritos here.Other cuisines like Chinese are not that good. You should also try shakes here.<br/>Service was good and was faster than expected.<br/>Place is a bit small but has different types of sitting arrangements. I checked the back side kitchen and was a bit disappointed there by the kitchen hygiene and cooking environment in the open.<br/><br/>Overall i would recommend you to visit it.<br/><br/>
