It's great to go to fancy and uber-cool restaurants all the time, and write about them; but to eat at places like that on an everyday basis is not realistic, unless you work for fun and are trust fund kids. What most of urban evolving and working India requires for the everyday are restaurants that aren't super pricey, offer the regular preferred options, and taste good. This is exactly where Quality comes in.
Let me set the expectations clearly; this place is not about the ambience, the experience, or the extremely cordial and trained service staff. If that's what you want, you're probably better of at a Subway, which is at a comparable price point, more or less. The restaurant is split into 2 levels, a non-ac section on the ground floor, and an air-conditioned section on the first floor. The ac section tends to feel dingy and a tad greasy; so if you're super particular on spic and span, this could be a deterrent. Based on the price point and the food offering, clientele is not super classy either. So if you're an elitist, this is not the place for you. That said, you will regularly find rich kids here to grab a bite, pre or post party.
The location is fabulous, just outside Park Sheraton, on the corner of St.Mary's road and TTK road. Though they don't have their own dedicated parking, St.Mary's road has plenty of parking and you can park someplace in and around, with no collection of parking fees. Roads being fairly wide, it's not congested and a task to maneuver. Call them lucky, but they totally struck gold with the location.
Coming to the food, and normally when practicality is key, we tend to be okay with average to acceptable food, it's not a compromise you'll need to make here. If you stick to what they are good at, that being the Kerala style curries and bread, be it Parottas or even the Tandoor Naans, you will learn that it's tasty as hell. The dishes are not floating in oil, and there is no excessive richness issue. The taste is perfect, and I have to admit that they've hit the nail on the head in that department. If you enjoy Tandoor starters like a Tangdi Kebab, give it a shot, and you'll probably find yourself wanting another piece. It was well cooked, the meat very soft, and the flavor just right. I can vouch that all the food tasted fresh, and nothing was being taken out of cold storage and reheated. I did not try the rice, or any of the Indianized Chinese on the menu, but why would I when their core competencies are clearly elsewhere.
For a restaurant of this type, it's all about the practicality, and no doubt Quality scores big. It's near my office, has parking, the food comes quick, it's very tasty, and the pricing is not over the top. For 2 people with a chicken starter, an aerated drink, and bottled water, it was about 200 per head. If we kept it to one course and skipped on the aerated beverages, id expect for it to be
