Review Adaminte Thattukada - Chennai (Madras)

Anjana Therese Antony
The food tastes excellent. But the price is comparatively high for the quantity. One should try their beef curry, super good. The place isn't that spacious (can accommodate a total of around 15 - 18). Also, it takes time to get your food on the table. As a whole, good to go. Both card and cash payments are accepted.

I recently ordered a variety of dishes from this restaurant for takeout, including Thalassery Biryani, Beef Biryani, Karimeen Fry, and Kappa. I must say, the food was absolutely delicious. The Thalassery Biryani had a wonderful blend of flavors, and the Beef Biryani was tender and flavorful. The Karimeen Fry was crispy and packed with taste, and the Kappa was a perfect complement. Even though I didn't dine in, the quality of the food made my takeout experience truly enjoyable. I highly recommend this restaurant for their delectable offerings.

I'm a regular customer. You must try the Beef Chatti Choor; it's one of their best dishes. Also, must try the shop-style beef roast and other beef dishes. They are incredibly tender and flavorful. Make sure to come with an empty stomach and enjoy the food! 😊 Also, they should consider improving their seating arrangements."

Today visited this awesome place and had naddan kappa and beef following with black tea and hot pazham pori. Worth spending time here, the taste was fantastically delicious!! 🥰😍 will visit again and again!

Good food but the ambience can be better.

You can enjoy Kerala dishes after an evening walk at Elliot's beach. You must try Kizhi parotta, kizhi biriyani,Sulaimani. Not spacious but nice taste.
Jithesh Pai
A small hotel with authentic kerala cuisines. They have very good snacks. But make sure you hit at the right time before it goes empty. Surely not a family restaurant. Prices are cheap compared to other hotels at besant nagar.

This is a place where one can eat delicious Kerala food for relatively moderate prices. I ate Kappa(tapioca/cassava), puttu (steamed rice cake), fish curry, beef curry and chicken curry. Everything were tasty and fresh. The eatery is not very spacious. But the space available is neat and clean. The walls are decorated with doodles and Malayalam writings. Those who enjoy Kerala food can definitely try this place. They also serve so not so Kerala food too.

One of the best restaurant in Besant nagar. Must try - Prawn Pollichadhu , & beef. Don't miss this place!

A place to go if you want a variety of Kerala dishes. Had kizhi/pothi porotta with sulaimani and it was awesome. Loads of dishes to try. Biriyani was average.
Adil A Rahman
Had Porota, Beef (nadan), puttu & kulukki sarbath from here. And they were very delicious. Spicy beef & soft puttu. Kulukki sarbath was also cool, but could have been better. Homely taste. Being a kozhikodian, felt the taste of Calicut here in Chennai. Must try for kerala dishes.

Very good customer service, very good food, must try here but so expensive

Great place to pick few carbs after strolling at Elliotts promenade. Very nice arrangement inside..

Parota was drenched in oil. It’s clear from the picture. We can make 3 curries with that much of oil. It was very very Bad.

Been wanting to go to this and finally did it last week. I had the Pothi Parotta and wife ordered kadala curry and chappathi. Service was okish and I liked the Pothi Parotta if not loved it (have had better ones). The stuffing of meat was quite less. Taste of the masala was quite neutral which is a +ve. Coming to kadala curry, it was quite tasteless and had to just leave most of it. Overall a good place for a cost effective Kerala style meal.

I had chicken biriyani, kappa and beef. Taste is really good

I found a hair floating in my curry. So disgusted!

Visited here many times, tasted Kappa beef, Porotta Beef and Biriyani etc.<br/>Taste is Good, but quantity is less. Overall ambience and experience is better. ☺️

A great experience of Malabar food with some awesome ambience. Super attractive beach front age and great Hospitality by the staff. Kappa and Beef Roast was the highlight of the day. It was super yummy and delicious. Great Malabar style preparation of Beef Roast and it was a perfect combo with Kappa. Finished off with the traditional Suliamani, which is a must at Adaminde Thattukada. Hope to turn up next time for some delicious Malabar snacks and delicacies.<br/><br/>My Overall Rating: 3.5/5

This small little restaurant in Besant Nagar is a non veg lovers paradise. We had porota, chicken varatharuchadu ,mutton sukka and prawn pepper masala. My oh my! The prawn and mutton were mouth watering. The best prawn masala i have ever had. Very easy on the pocket too. It is a really tiny place so seating would be an issue if you are in a bug group. Don’t go for the ambience go for the prawns and mutton. Regret not trying the fish. Maybe next time 👍👍👍

Hailing from the OG Calicut, this hole in the wall eatery at bessy, compared to their first branch in Calicut is tiny. Super simple mallu food, friendly staff and quick service. Was looking forward to try their kulluki Sarbath, but they didn’t have it that night. Had to settle for goli soda. Definitely worth the money paid.

I was with my husband and had gone to Mother Mary church in Besant nagar beach on account of my sweetheart's birthday... and i accidentally spotted this place.... It was an amazing experience. Had authentic kerala food after being to Chennai. It was soooo delicious, pure Kerala flavoured tasty food. Thanks a lot Adaminde Thattukada for an awesome ambience on his birthday. 😍🤩

I will definitely come back to update the review and rating once I have tried this place a few times. We just had one dish here and this review is solely based on that one dish. It was fantabulous. We ordered the prawn pepper fry. It was cooked in coconut oil which added to the taste. Very well made dish.

Nice place to have genuine flavours of Kerala. It is not very spacious. But the food is nice. I have visited this place in several occasions. The taste is consistent.

Had a nice dinner with my friends on a weekday evening... Taste is so good... Parotta , chicken porichathu and beef fry were notably good... A must try place in bessy... Service is fast and good.. Tables are less and congested... tat was a main drawback... Other than that everything is fine..

After a walk on the beach, my friends and I decided to pay a visit to Mallu Cuisine restaurant - Adaminde Thattukada.<br/><br/>Unfortunately the air-conditioning was not working when we visited the restaurant, but that's not why we're here for.<br/><br/>We ordered Malabar Parotta, Beef fry, Kozhi Ularthiyadhu and Thalaserry chicken biryani. Everything tasted great and the spiciness was perfect.<br/><br/>Prices are reasonable, some special dishes are available only during the weekend, so if you plan to visit, do it on a weekend.<br/><br/>

At last went to this place hearing good reviews on their beef especially. And this place serves authentic mallu food at its best.<br/><br/>Beef biriyani - the biriyani was good in terms of quantity, quality and price for the locality. Even the spice was good enough. Beef pieces used were perfect and.<br/><br/>Chilli beef - masala was ultimate and few beef pieces were good and few other pieces were so chewy.<br/><br/>Beef roast - expected much about this and was disappointed with the same chewy beef pieces. The curry masala was so rich in spices but the beef made it worse.<br/><br/>Poricha kozhi 1/2 - best had ever for the price, tasted so crispy outside and since it was properly marinated inside and so the magic happened with it. Coconut oil used and masala chunks of crispy coconut and onion over them was yummy too. Definitely will go for this again.<br/><br/>After hearing great comments from friends, still I feel they could maintain the consistency in cooking beef to gain good response every time.<br/><br/>Will visit again and post with new food updates from the same space. <br/><br/>Ambiance: cosy space for a casual dine in 3.5/5<br/>Price: 4/5<br/>Food, taste: 3/5<br/>Service: 3.8/5 <br/>

Delivery Review - I ordered their starter Beef Roast Nadan and received Beef curry as in the pic. I spoke to the Swiggy executive who delivered my food and he advised that he too had question the same to the restaurant at the time of collecting and the restaurant stated that this is how Beef Roast Nadan will be. This restaurant gave me curry as a starter which I did not expect. The restaurant need to get this sorted with their Team at the earliest. Note* Earlier I had ordered their Beef coconut fry and loved it.

This place doesn't have a very attractive outlook. And hence I haven't thought about visiting this place even once until today.<br/><br/>I tried beef kothu porotta. It was excellent and sumpsious.<br/><br/>It's the first time I tried beef kothu porotta and I liked it. Looks like this is the only place in Besant Nagar where one can get Kerala cusine.<br/><br/>Ambience: 3/5 - crammed place; good to visit with friends or as solo.<br/>Service: 3/5 - average<br/>Quality and Taste: 4/5 👍<br/>Quantity: 5/5 😌🤩<br/>Pricing: 4/5 - affordable<br/>

Ordered the thattukada meals. It came with fish gravy and fry, chicken gravy and fry, prawn pepper fry, sambar, avial, pickle and such. Quantity wise, would be more than enough for two people Quality wise, needs a lot of improvement, fish was not fresh and was very rubbery. Fish fry was too salty. Chicken dishes also needs improvement.

Located in busy street of besant nagar, they provide typical kerala cuisine but when it come to their ambiance it's a total hands down for me.<br/>Small, not much clean and poor air conditioning.<br/><br/>Thalassery briyani :-<br/>I chose chicken one and it's tasted like a typical kerala type, less spicy and as i was super hungry i ate till last bite and doesn't taste much bad.<br/><br/>Salna parotta  :-<br/>Two pieces of parotta ducked in salna and it's not much to my liking.<br/><br/>IN ESSENCE :-<br/>A good place for kerala food lovers

Best Kerala food I have had after coming to Chennai! We tried banana fry, Thalassery biriyani, porotta and chicken roast. All were delicious...
Alexander
ordered 'kappa biryani' through Zomato app. <br/>'kappa biryani' was pathetic, it was simply boiled kappa, mixed in beef curry.<br/>Adaminde thattukada, wake up & have good quality control in place, please.
Caren Michael Pinheiro
Pretty decent place if you're looking for Kerala cuisine that doesn't cost you much. Aptly located at Bessie, which guarantees crowd during weekends and even on some nights during the week, this place is forever crowded. Pretty decent food, nothing to say much about the ambience - it's a small place and decent staff makes this place 👍. I'd rate the experience 3.5!
Dhilip Pugalenthi
A place in Besant nagar beach serving Kerala style dishes. We had got parcel of kerala parotta and chicken curry for dinner. The parotta is soft and gone well with the chicken curry. The chicken was also soft and juicy.<br/>But the place is too crampy with one 4 or 5 tables.<br/><br/>Ambience - 3/5<br/>Food- 4/5

I was with 2 other mallus at besant nagar beach, and we accidently spotted this place. A tiny restaurant with limited space and seating, but they have tried best to give the feel of an authentic Kerala Thattukada with graffitis. <br/><br/>We ordered some Appam and parotta, with Beef coconut fry and chicken. Food items were decent.<br/>Do try Mohabbat Sulaimani and Kulukki Sarbath, they were really good. <br/><br/>Recommend this place for decent mallu food, as I don't think there is any other option nearby.

Good food!

The service at this place is horrible. The waiters were playing games on their phone when we came in and had to wait 15 minutes for him to take the order. Same while paying the bill. The food was also really mediocre. Ordered Parotta and Beef Roast.<br/>You see in the photos attached also. All the waiters do are sit with their phones.

So after a long time I felt like having a Kerala meal. And I was said that the meal is good there!<br/>But I was disappointed when I saw the plate. It was a plastic plate and on top of that there was a banana leaf. <br/>Then the guy came with the sides of the papad of Kerala is iconic. But there too I wound the normal papad. Then I found only 2 veggie sides. Which was good. Then came the coconut chatney and mango pickle. All was fine. Then came the chicken gravy, which was full with taste of dry chilly powder... I mean who dose that. Kerala chicken gravy tastes yum. But this was something else. My friend ordered mutton chukka, but it was not tough to chew. Yeast tasted good.<br/><br/>Ambiance:<br/>Pretty small place, total 3 tables inside. And s 4 seater table converted to 6 seater.<br/><br/>My suggestions:<br/>Place is good with the meal but I guess that day cook was angry.<br/><br/>Do visit. <br/>

The place is at beach face. They serve really good Kerala food. Just the air condition doesn't work proper and the place is really hot during summer. They served food super spicy but I loved the taste. A definite try when at beach !!

NOT UPTO MARK<br/>Visiting this place on high hopes, felt true disappointment.<br/>I ordered Thalassery Kozhi Biriyani. <br/>If people who have eaten authentic thalassery kozhi biriyani, then trying it here is not a good option.<br/>I went around 7, barely any customers.<br/>Me and my friend ordered 3 Biriyanis.<br/>COLD LEFT OVER BIRIYANI FROM THE NOON was served, the rice had already gotten hard and biriyani was a little stale.<br/>Another time I had pazhampori, even this they don’t even care to prepare well.<br/><br/>
Veenaa Priyaa M
Puttu kadalai curry had authentic taste. Kothu parotta was good. Was spicy for my 7yrs old son, but it was ok for us. Would definitely order again.

If you love food avoid this place!! <br/><br/>Food: most of the items won’t be available here. If you order online they just blindly decline it. If you go they ask to wait for 30 minutes.<br/><br/>Taste : try some other restaurant at least you can feel some difference. Just tasteless food served here.

Visited this place for the second time. <br/>My last visit was a good experience however this time felt disappointed.<br/>The ambience: As it’s a small joint the place will be a bit cramped but courteous staff and good service. <br/>The food: most of the items from the menu won’t be avl and this is the second time it has happened to me where they have run out of or didn’t prepare the dish for the day. <br/>Taste: well, it’s a total let down, I ordered 2 beef biryani (as no other rice items were available), coconut beef fry, beef nadan gravy and two appams and one chicken kothu parotta. <br/><br/>The coconut beef fry was too rubbery and couldn’t find any hint of making it in coconut oil, rather few chunks of coconuts were mixed with it. <br/>The biryani and beef nadan gave away raw chilly powder taste and it wasn’t that great. <br/>The egg appam was good and it was good enough to be eaten alone as no other accompaniment was good. <br/><br/>They really need to work on the food and the taste. <br/>
Praju Prajith
we got two beef biriyani instead of 1 chkn biriyani without raita and nothing

Two weeks ago, chose this shop for Besant Nagar outing with friends, as wanted to taste the Kappa Fish curry combo. This shop did not let us down, as we devoured it. The ayala fish was awesome. <br/><br/>The place was little cramped but for the good food and the taste, one can let go of that luxury.<br/><br/>Please do not miss the black tea after the spicy kappa fish curry. Will return again to taste the parotta combo with all NV side dish varieties as I was told it also is very nice.<br/><br/>Ordered a piece of Puttu (Steamed rice cake) with kadala curry by seeing it was being made in front of us. Mouth-watering...<br/><br/>If you have any one visiting you from south, take them here. Car parking available at the promenade.

After a long search for Kerala cuisine, we reached this place this noon. A small place with very limited seating capacity. We had Kerala meals, thalaserry chicken biriyani, beef biriyani, ayla fry and kuluki sharbath. Chicken biriyani was good ( not the best), beef biriyani was good with enough beef pieces. Kerala veg meals was good too.Ayla fry - a dissapointing one😑. <br/><br/>One suggestion to management: Please maintain cleanliness, we could see a lot of flies inside. <br/>Overall rating:<br/>Food : 3.5/5<br/>Service:4/5<br/>Cleanliness: 2.5/5<br/>

Hailing from the God’s own country, Kerala, I was longing for some spicy tangy Kerala dishes after two long months in Chennai. That’s when I decided to try out Adaminte Thattukada. The cozy little shop and the menu did set the standards high but their service let me down! Though kappa was not up to the mark, hot steaming appam paired with kadala curry was great.
Reshma Pothen
Let me be very honest - this is the best Mallu fare I've had in Chennai. I was a little hesitant to order from here because of the limited menu and the poor rating. But I decided to 'cause fish, particularly the red curry is a weakness. And boy am I glad I did. Gorgeous spicy fish curry, delicious beef roast and soft, hearty porottas. It was a taste of home with every bite. I really want to try kappa next. Either ways, guys, if you want to taste actual Mallu food - as opposed to what people think is Mallu food - give this place a try.
Kalai Vanan
If can I would rate even less. Worst meal experience ever. When I entered the store nobody even cared about me. Then I myself went to them and asked for a biriyani. Then he asked me to wait outside for a long time and then he asked for the order again. I order a biriyani. Was very eager about thalasery Biriyani but it didn't have any taste in it. I asked him for extra masala to mix. He served me extra biriyani but I couldn't even mix it in that plate properly. In the whole one worst meal experience.<br/><br/>I guess the owner was out and he came after some time but he didn't even cared about someout eating in his shop.
The Eggman
Food and taste: Great food at excellent prices. Beef coconut fry, Beef roast and Malabar parotta were amazing. <br/><br/>Ambience: Place is too small to go as a big crowd. There are only 4 tables in the restaurant. <br/><br/>Service: Exceptional.<br/><br/>Overall: Go there for the food rather than the ambience.<br/><br/>Will taste the Thalassery Briyani next time and post an updated review.
Ladongnuklu Jamir
This small restaurant situated near Elliot’s beach specialises in Kerala cuisine. The food was decent but nowhere near the best I’ve had. The dishes were a bit too spicy for my taste. The service was also below par for a small restaurant such as this. I had finished my meal but did not get the drink I wanted. Overall a below average experience.

So while my parents and I were just strolling through the eat street right across the beach, we noticed this really fancy name board in Malayalam. If you’re a Malayali in Chennai and you want to have authentic nadan food, the options are quite limited. <br/><br/>The first impression wasn’t too great. Fairly small and congested but, the food that was brought to the table was on point. If you’re heading in with a big group, you might have to wait but otherwise you’re sure to get a table quickly because their service is pretty fast. <br/><br/>We ordered the Kappa with Fish Curry and Shoppu Chicken Fry for starters and my oh my, hands down the best Kappa one can have in Chennai. I’ve been to so many restaurants but this dish has never tasted better elsewhere. The Chicken Fry was also fairly good. Nothing to rave about though. <br/><br/>For mains, we ordered Parotta, Chicken Curry and Beef Roast. Loved how soft and yummy parottas with the chicken curry were. We were hoping to try the beef coconut fry but they had run out of it by then. Nonetheless, pretty good Beef Roast. We also ordered Puttu which is again very hard to go wrong and they pretty much nailed it. <br/><br/>We ended our meal with a pal ada payasam and it was YUM. Personally to me it tasted like the one my mum makes at home. <br/><br/>Tummy extremely full and 700 bucks on the bill, I don’t think you can ask for a better deal. If they can work on their service and seating a bit more, they will definitely grow leaps and bounds. But I’m sure as hell going back more often.

Service and food served was simply not at par. Meals took a lot of time to be delivered. The rice alone was hot but the rest of the dishes were served cold.

Best place if you are craving for keralite food. A small place to accommodate very few but with great taste. Ambience is not much and Service is average.
Salim Mahmood
Very disappointed , Not clean, Chapahy reaymade, and not fresh ,<br/>Hardly any items available from the menu, <br/>Biriyani was not at all hot, Not tasty too<br/>

Coming from a land of tasty delicacies, Kozhikode I had one of the best experiences of relishing my taste buds. Thank you so much Adaminde Thattukada for the wonderful food and the service. Though it is a small place, the food served here is fresh and it is one of the best Kerala food available in Chennai. I am now a regular visitor to this place and I hope they will be consistent and will keep up the standards in long run.

This is your one stop destination for the kerala food at bessy! We went as for a family dinner and tried some of the delicacies like kappa and fish curry, thalaserry chicken biriyani, parrota. Mutton chukka fried with small onions is an superhit dish, fishes were fresh catch and awesome! There some excellent items in beef too!! Kattan chaya is a must try, it goes well with the food!
James
I left this place with mixed feelings. The parotta is great, the chicken curry was good... but the mutton chukka... Beware of the mutton chukka. They charge 220 for it and add beef in it! Being a seasoned non vegeterian, I was able to spot it in the first bite.<br/><br/>You might as well settle for a beef roast which is priced at 120.
Abhimanyu Padmaraj
One of the best budget places, but with a little variety of choices. Amazing Kerala food and decent prices. A small shop with around 10-15 people max capacity, it as the name suggests a Thattukada and you definitely get that feel. The ambience is not that great but the food does the job. The mutton chukka is amazing. Good service and it has some parking space in the front.
Mohammed Aadil
Awesome food , try mutton chukka with idiya<br/>ppam, Beef coconut fry absolute mallu style and tasty. Beef roast with puttu good combination. After long wait ,too tried Malabar biriyani and fresh kallumaakai fry. <br/>

Visited this outlet yesterday.. located close to swensens, two wheeler parking quite manageable but four wheelers little tough. Nothing to comment about ambience,Thy just have 3 tables and 12 chairs without air condition. The order was paara fry ,mutton chukka, chicken biryani , beef biryani. Their menu is limited.menu card which thy give have some highlighted dishes ,only those are available.. <br/>parra fry : average in taste too oily. Not worth At all 👎<br/>Mutton chukka: taste was good, spices well blended but few mutton pieces were over cooked made me to feel like chewing a rubber 🤙🏻<br/>Chicken biryani : its yummy😋 perfect aroma !! Not with too much masala as like Hyderabad biryani.. typical thalassery biryani✌🏻<br/>Beef biryani : my friend opted for this! Beef was well cooked without any fatty layer!! Same like chicken biryani the taste was awesome!! ✌🏻 <br/>Need to try their authentic Kerala meals !! <br/><br/><br/>Service : 4<br/>Taste: 3.5<br/>Ambience : 2.5<br/>Price : 3.5<br/><br/><br/>

Visited there last weekend as we were roaming around near elliot's beach to get get some yummy food to fill our big tummies 😋. And there we found this shop with a malayalam name board (we always have cravings for our native food items). If was fully fledged with people, we had wait a little to find our space. We ordered idiyappam, fish curry, squid roast and mohabath sulaimani which was simply awesome. Food is really cheap and very yummy. Jofiya Mj

Dreadful experience! <br/><br/>Utter failure of mutton chaps!! Stale food it was. Super Stale & stinky! (I should go dig the dictionary for more apt words). This came as a starter and we returned it. However. this spoiled the mood, and the trust over the other seemingly okayish food. Note that though the manager was seeing and hearing all this, he never bothered to come to our table. Thought the manager would tell a sorry and take the bill on the house (though I'd pay anyway). No! Nothing. He just said, "sorry, the cook got it from the freezer" (which didn't add up to any logical reasoning) and without any shame, and with no further apologies, handed us the bill for the remaining order. Glad we cancelled our initial plan to parcel the food and decided to dine in. The worst experience we've ever had in a restaurant!<br/><br/>Visit again? Won't even dream of!
