Review Igloo - Chennai (Madras)

Dilip Kumar N K
Of late, this has become my go-to place whenever I crave for some ice creams late in the nights. The store is open till 3:30 am and that's a huge plus. On all my visits, have gone for the crunchy chocolate ice cream which tastes well - but chocolate sauce is a big no here, doesn't taste all that good. Should try the rest of their flavors and their wood fired pizza. Service has been really good during all my visits - guys there welcome with a big smile on their face, even at 3:00 in the mornings and were very helpful. Overall, a good place for ice cream lovers to satisfy their late night cravings!!

Woodfired pizzas are awesome, see pictures below. but igloo ice cream parlor is a joke factory. Better have ice creams elsewhere. This place is open till 2.30am in night, life Savior for a late night binge eaters. You won't feel bloated when compared to other pizzerias. Bang for your buck. Order via swiggy until 12am, after 00:00hrs, call them directly for home delivery or pickup or dine-in.

Midnight spot. Ice cream lovers can have fun. Woodfired pizza adds more flavor to that.

I heard that this place is not available after midnight here onwards. It was a good place for late night pizza and dessert

THE WORST....... when I go inside the shop the only person who stand in counter had a very bad attitude...he thought I'm a local person who came to buy 10rs cone...and I didn't get my bill too... Very good show....if it is a franchise type please take a vision on your shop...

Delayed post alert..

I used to see this place whenever I go through Mahalingapuram. The structure suit it's name. One day late night I was going that way, surprised to see this place is open and filled with decent crowd. Decided to give a try and went for it.

This place is easy to locate. Near Mahalingapuram turning. Parking is manageble in roadside. Difficult in peak hours. Ambiance is simple and decent inside. Service can be improved. Menu is not that great. Not up to trend. Ordered nut butterscotch Ice cream which is decent. Price is reasonable. Can try if you looking for late night ice cream.
Cookofthekitchen
loved the milkshake and chocolate ice cream
Umesh Bhansali
It is just a normal ice parlour..nothing new I saw... Varieties are not much here and taste was mediocre. Price is on higher side, can do better in taste and varieties.

Opposite to its name, no variety of ice creams all basic flavours and taste is not good either; above all bad service. Unfortunately a very horrible experience.

This place is good...juz good I wuld say...the AC was nt lettin out cool air ...the ice cream was not all that great...bt the cost was hefty fr that ice cream...I wish they cn give better tasting ice creams...!they cn change it!!

Below average! That's all this place is worth for the ice cream. Honestly there is nothing more to describe about this place. Hardly had the taste of the flavours we ordered and that too in all 5 different flavours ( butterscotch, mango, blackcurrent, vanilla, Chocolate) and really not worth the money.

My friend and I came back to Chennai after spending a day in Vellore and we decided to grab a bite. It was 1 in the morning and it was the only shop open on our way home. They serve Italian - Mexican pizzas, fries and variety of icecreams for reasonable price.

The ambiance was good and irrespective of the late night visit, the staffs welcomed us with a radiant smile and explained us the menu. We ordered a Butterscotch icecream with crispy chocolate sause and chocolate buttons, Vanilla and Mango icecreams with cashew and rainbow sprinkles.

The flavours were amazing and the quantity was generous, there are limited toppings but the ones that are available will be sufficient to go with all the icecreams. Since this place is till 3 am in the morning and they have really good food, I recommend igloo for insomniacs who have craving for pizza or icecreams. I rate Igloo a solid 4/5

It's a place with a beautiful ambience, sweet decor - both inside and out. One should go there if they click a lot of pictures. Unfortunately , it's not a place for dessert lovers. The ice creams are not really ice creams but merely frozen milk, take more than 10 minutes to consume them and all you've got left is flavoured WATERY milk. Other than desserts , their rage of snacks are pretty good, which is ironic considering the name of the place ...

I really wanted to check out this place and had high expectations because of the external appearance. But Appearance did deceive. We ordered Litchi and Chocolate. The Litchi had a strong paracetamol taste to it. The chocolate did not taste sweet. When enquired , They added a Litchi essence to it which made it even worse. I had a horrible experience.

Really fortunate to see this shop open at 2.30 AM as my friends and I were craving for something to eat or drink. The ambience is good. There were lots of flavors of ice-cream. Tried Green Apple and Blackcurrant with some nuts. They were really good. We couldn't try cones as they weren't available. If you want to have a dessert after a midnight dinner, then this is the place.

Was craving icecream really bad and I was unaware of swiggy when this happened. I randomly called them and asked if they'd deliver as they're 3-4 kms from my place but yet they decided to deliver. It took some time but the ice creams were awesome. I took the chocolate and the caramel one. They were amazing!

Its one of the few ice cream parlour comes pizza shop open till 3:30AM .. ice cream was not upto mark but pizza taste good.. i would suggest you to go with pizza instead of ice cream..

Ambience was okay..ice cream was not good ..milk shake was too watery..tasted like road side shop..too pricey..have seen other ice cream parlour provide better nd good quality ice cream for less than the price dey provide.. wouldn't recommend

Have been to this place one late night to have ice-cream. Ambience is simple & well lit. It's chill inside with a certain pizza shop on the outside where you can have amazing variety of Pizzas.
We got Litchi & Vanilla milkshakes. I personally hated that. It is quite costly and not worth your money. Rs. 120/- for a diluted Vanilla milkshake? Noways! I regretted having it. Go there, have pizza and come back. Don't try for the milkshakes atleast!
Sridevi
Wow.. Its 11.40pm and my sudden craving for an ice cream was met only by these guys.. I tried calling up quite some parlours which say delivery till mid night but non of them came to my rescue... They work hard to satisfy their customers... Great job guys!! Keep it up!!!

I've crossed igloo a gazillion times and it never occured to me to try it. But, finally I did. The ambience is not great. The chairs are uncomfy as well. They've given the walls a snowy effect.
I had their choco crunch ice cream which tasted good. It was light and didn't give you the uneasy heavy feeling that some ice creams normally do. Their corn cheese nuggets were okay. It was hot and had a good amount of cheese. So there is no complaining there.
The two items cost about 220 bucks.

Every ice parlour doesn't have to be fancy. You can find good ice cream anywhere.

#Pros
- Open till 3 in the night
- Decent ice cream (Few flavors)

#Cons
- Crappy Ice cream (Few flavors)
- ambiance
- limited flavors
- tasteless toppings

Me and my brother hit this place at 1 am after we went for a long drive. We ordered a caramel ice cream and a blackcurrant. Caramel tasted good but the blackcurrant was a complete disaster and my brother couldn't finish it. The chocolate toppings tasted like wax.

This place would be my last resort.

Best place to hangout in the night shop opens in the evening delicious pizzas and different varieties of Ice creams are available nice atmosphere we enjoyed so much. Service is very good.

Decent option for those looking out for chit chat over ice-creams and a place which remains open till late in night... They have variety of flavors and toppings option too. Price is charged based on weight of ice-cream. Had Chocolate (default choice :p) , Coffee and Kiwi flavor, liked all three of them. Don't go with high expectations.

Igloo, a namesake icecream parlour. I am not sure what made me to stop over there to have an icecream. I asked for a scoop of butterscotch Icecream the attender told me it would be 100Rs for 120 for a scoop. It was a frozen sweetened milk, the flavour was very little, I am not sure if I have made a mistake of not having any topping added to that. I am not able to believe that I am having the butter scotch Icecream tilll the end. Ambience was okay. But I dont find any justification for me to go there again.

As everyone already said, ICE creams are okay. Availability of ICE cream till midnight 2.30 AM is only GOOD thing about this place.

My Recent experience:

One fine evening, after work, reached home early, so I decided to goto IGLOO for the 1st time in my life. Went to the outlet around 6.20pm in the evening and found a PIZZA counter, newly installed. Saw the menu and ordered a pizza (it claimed that it's italian pizza or something like this). After ordering their specials which is for Rs 299 + (14% Tax = 42) which is Rs: 340/-. They took like 25 to 35 mins to prepare the pizza and finally got it and started to dine, Defenately it's not worth spending your money on pizzas in such shops, when you'rve already tasted dominos or pizza hut's PIZZAS. They gave a thin crush pizza with somewhat arranged toppings and vegetables on it. They didn't server water, only gave 1 sachets of Oregano, Chilliflakes and ketchup each. But gave lots of tissues.

Please do not order pizza from here it's NOT AT ALL WORTH for your money. You can order drinks, milkshakes and or ice creams BUT NOT PIZZA. The ambiance is not good. Air Condition also worst as it never really worked, the shop has wifi but the attender will refuse to give the password for wifi. No proper customer service. They've only one LG TV with Sun/Airtel dish which only plays SunMUSIC and nothing else.

U wanna hav ice creams late at night after 1 Visit this place . POSITIVES #1 Late night ice creams n som snacks are available #2 Taste is not bad NEGATIVES #1 Ambience s not good #2 Taste is jus ok #3 Sometimes u have flies in the dining place . 3.5 RATING IS STRICTLY FOR THE TIMINGS CONSIDERIN D FACT TAT U WON GET ICE CREAMS THIS LATE (other than star hotels)

The wood fired pizza outlet outside igloo is really good and a perfect place for late night hangouts .. Ambience is just ok and customer service was good.

There are times you have this uncontrollable crave for ice creams late in the night, igloo it is !! for people like us. This place is open till about 2:30 AM and has always delighted us with their colourful rich gelatos. The guy at the counter attends to you in a friendly way and will help you in picking up the right stuff for your taste. All their syrups and concentrates are imported from premium manufacturers. I had a chat with the young chap and found out that their vanilla is a pure and genuine extract from the vanilla bean and not some essence. The place is well arranged to accommodate at least a min of 20 people at a time but I think the air conditioner is not efficient enough to cool even if there were just 3 or 4 people. The deep fryer kitchen for smileys and nuggets could have been planned somewhere inside. TV volume is always high and sometime becomes a nuisance. Everything else about the place is good.

After a good dinner me and a couple of my buddies were hunting for a place to kill the sweet tooth. We first went to amadora, the place was full and closed for the day, next we hit brew room, which was closed, then we went to dipping pot which was open but all they had was fondue so we decided to chuck it and head home when AmrYth Bunty suggested igloo. We walked in at 11:45 and it was open.
Well the only good things about the place they are open till 3 and they provide ample parking space.

Ambience - it was all old school. A good cleaning would help.

Service - self service.

Ice cream - we could not stop laughing at how bad it tastes. But being the foodies we are, we manned up and dishes the scoops of ewww.. And that's that. I guess the term Scoops of eww explains it all. Ehehe.. For 2 sundaes we paid - 400 odd bucks.@

Ambience - 2/3.
Service - self.
Ice cream - 0/5.
Pricing - outrageous.
Ewwiness - 5/5.

Very few restaurants make me give it a high rating and it's even rare when I end up giving a rating less than two points. Not sure if I'm so easy to please (At least when it come to food or specifically ice creams), but it's very hard to make me feel bad about a place. Unfortunately that's exactly what Igloo made me do.

After a scintillating meal at a new restaurant called Nellai Xpress, 'The Gang' decided to part ways following some dessert. It was only 11:30 but we were unlucky to find our regular dessert spots displaying their shutters. Amadora was almost closed and so was The Brew Room. Then a friend said Igloo, near Loyolla, would be open till late night. So without a second thought, we headed to Nungambakkam.

Found the place relatively quick. It's on the main road, making it easy to spot. It was late night so parking wasn't an issue, we parked both the cars and made our way to the parlor. A pizza kiosk was open at the store's frontage and it smelled heavenly. I reminded myself to check this place out at the earliest. Igloo was almost filled up which was surprising given the time. We were lucky to get a table for the five of us. Ambience looked OKish. It's apparent that it's been a long time since they've retouched the decor as there was an unhealthy level of spider webs on the ceiling. To stay true to their name, they've designed the shop similar to a igloo, this makes it obviously very hard to clean the nooks and corners.

Service was pretty decent. It's a self service based system similar to most dessert parlors. The choices available weren't that many and they weren't marked with respective names correctly. As they were so busy, we couldn't even try a few before deciding on what we want like how we do in other places. We hastily decided to get Raspberry, Nutty chocolate, Blackcurrant and Caramel. None of these four scoops tasted good or had the 'wow' factor in it. At least chocolate and caramel were manageable, the fruity ones literally lacked any flavour whatsoever.

Considering the taste of their ice creams, we felt the place to be expensive. I'm sure this place was once a very happening spot but after the arrival of some amazing ice cream parlours in city and getting to taste some delicious classics and crazy combinations, this place seems to be too outdated and plainly boring. But that said, we shouldn't forget the crowd that this place gets. I guess it's predominantly because of the fact that they are open till 3 in the morning. I would definitely think twice before going here again and I'm confident that my sugar cravings can wait till the next day to take care of it in an even better place.

RATINGS BREAK UP:-
Location:- 4/5
Parking:- 3.5/5
Reception:- 2/5
Food:- 1.5/5
Customer Service:- 2.5/5
Ambience:- 3/5
Price:- 3/5

We were scouting for a place to have dessert and the clock was already ticking towards 12. After feverish scamperings from one place to another with no luck we finally landed at Igloo located at Mahalingapuram quite close to the Loyola back gate. (LIBA)

More than the ice creams which the place serves, the most amazing thing is this place is open till an eye popping 3 am in the night. When finding a place at 12 seems an extremely difficult proposition this comes across as highly convenient.

Even past midnight the place was buzzing with atmosphere. It was quite a surprise to see this outlet so lively even at such untimely hours. They have a variety of flavors to choose from. We picked Raspberry, Nutty Chocolate, Blackcurrant and caramel. None of them were really good and were just the usual run of the mill stuff.

Nothing much to say about the service as it's self service. The pricing seemed a little on the higher side. The ambiance is plain jane with nothing really to rave about.

Notwithstanding the pretty average taste of the icecreams, the fact that they are open till the wee hours of the morning surely helps them to garner a few brownie points.
Gopinath Rajendran AmrYth Bunty Ajit Induchudan Sammienatorr

The only positive about the place is its open till 3PM in the night. So, if its pretty late in the night - you are dessert craving and have nowhere else to go- this could be the place to go; provided-you are willing to eat anything in the name of ice cream.

The blackcurrant and raspberry ice creams were absolutely flavourless.

We were here at around 12PM and they were kinda packed. Service was sub-ordinary and the place was overpriced for what they offer.

The pizza counter smelled yum though and might be a reason for me to consider a revisit.

This place is located near Loyola college and an easy to spot .
Dropped into this place with no plans .
Got a decent ambience and moderate crowd .
Quite expensive .
We ordered two ice creams and it costed us 250 INR.
The Belgium chocolate was finger licking and the other some vanilla based flavour was just Oki ..
Arvind
Nice ice creams.. And other varieties.. Not much of crowd.. Its best for late night desserts. They have started pizzas which are awesome.. Must try. Cost is too high

Not very crowded. Quite expensive but foid was good. Ambience was good. The place was clean and cozy. Comfortable for casual hangout. The interior was quite cool.

Had been here on a Sunday evening with a friend. The place was not that crowded when we were in. The place was calm, cozy and suitable for a quiet weekend.
We ordered a single scoop of Tiramisu and Butterscotch each. The ice cream tasted good, but it wasn't anything extraordinary. The taste could be improved. The ice cream flavours and topping options were limited, and that could be improvised too. The cost was reasonable, given the quality, quantity and ambience.
Overall a good place, with lot of scope for improvement.
Sathya Praveen
As its name goes, it is a small and cozy place. Not much of variety in the ice cream menus offered, in fact Ibaco is way ahead. But its a cool, less crowded place, comfortable to stop-relax-and-go after an ice cream on any hot day. Didnt try the woodfire pizza though, maybe will drop in for them sometime. Short eats were good and ice creams tasted more homemade. Ranges were on the basic varieties for the icecreams. Nice private place making it easy for a couple to enjoy ice cream over chat. Creative interiors jus like the inside of an igloo, this left a smile in my face.
Srinath Sharma
For a place which is open up until late midnight, i dont understand why the management can't improve the taste of the ice cream, oh i am sorry wait " alteast make it available".

If you really want to have an ice cream that late in the night, You can try Creamy-Inn at Chetpet signal or the Kwality Walls Ice Cream Vendors on the road who are available abundantly at the Gandhi Beach.

P.S finally for a place named Igloo it has tropical interiors....:P

Igloo Ice Cream Parlour is my favorite place for letting out my stress and depression. Desserts work perfectly with my mood and thankfully same goes for my best friend. Out of all the desserts that I tasted here Death by Chocolates is the best and Kafir Lime is also very delicious. My best friend finds Berry Berry to be the best and so we end up eating both the Death by Chocolates and Berry Berry. Igloo Ice Cream Parlour is a regular destination for delicious desserts for me. :)
Karthick
Decent place . Not too good. Prices are high compared to the food they offer here. You get chat items, icecream and chicken nuggets and stuff. Good place to go with your friends for a evening.
Aditya
Very high prices and incredibly disappointing...an utter waste of money...
Hari Kumar
I love the icecream server really gud and the chat items are also gud
Food Ninja
I like this place precisely coz they offer your icecreams (with toppings) and some small snacks till 1:00 am at night :)
The icecreams are decent tasting, but there isn't a very wide variety to choose from.
You also get to choose from some general icercream toppings. Try tiramisu flavour apart from the other regular ones!

The price is decent. Not too high!
So when during a late night drive, you have a crazy craving for icecream and your attempts to find the Kwality Walls guy at besant nagar or marina FAIL; this place is always there for you (Till 01:00 atleast).
Star hotels too ofcourse are an option, but that can leave a big hole in your pocket for just a scoop or two of icecream :P
So why shell out 350/- for an icecream when a place like this can satisfy your craving for a 120ish bucks :)

Worth a try, at late night :) there certainly a lot of other good options too during normal hours..

Located such that it makes it all the more easier for Igloo to be one of the best hangouts in Madras. However, it fails to live up to the provided facilities. Probably they do try, with an ignorant approach though, thus failing to achieve that level of excellence they can easily be entitled to.

I feel they are stuck on a plateau, thinking there isn't scope for any further development. Oh, how wrong they are. With a wide range of items adorning their menu and the provision for making these dishes true delicacies, they do not push themselves.

There are milkshakes and ice creams, and many more other products. The milkshakes range from White chocolate to Fruit based, but none deliver that special something to draw you over one other time. White Chocolate milkshake was just milk, Mango milkshake was just mango essence and processed pulp in milk. The former mentioned here was absolute trash; if I wanted to drink watery chilled milk, I would rather do it at home by diluting packet milk to water in a 20:80 ratio. The fruit based milkshakes were at least good in taste, if not in quality. We ordered a few ice creams, which was neither excellent nor derogatory in nature. Standard average quality maintained throughout. The staff is extremely courteous, but sensationally ill informed about the preparatory methods and nuances of running such a place with such an inventory of items in hand. I sincerely hope they improve and progress. It has been around too long with borderline mediocrity that it makes me weep inside. Take action people, or we will end up seeing a worthless Coffee-shop brand opening up another ill needed branch at the same location after you are gone. And none of us want that, do we?

The products are priced on a mediocre level, just like the quality. Wouldn't mind paying a little bit more if it means being offered awesome items.

If they are stuck as such, then I hope someone takes over and stimulates Igloo into achieving its glory by delivering its worth.
