A small hotel with good service. I had idiyappam and apple juice here. Food tastes good here. Idiyappam was made by them not the usual readymade ones we get.

Delicious and Quality food at a reasonable rate...I tasted meals and tandoori Combo from there ,which was really superb. It is a well-known restaurant since 1978 . The service is also good..Very neatly maintained restaurant. One of the best restaurants in this area. They have a juice corner in front of the shop itself. They also accept online payments.

Extremely popular place in Adyar. Arguably THE GO TO PLACE for meals (lunch) for the general population here. They handle the crowd well, and they continue to be the preferred place for most of the locals who tend to eat outside on an everyday basis.

You see ‘1978’, first thing from the platform if you are walking in that locality. That made me think that the restaurant’s name was 1978 but it was not. Adyar Sree Bhavan is the name and it serves its purpose.

We went there around 7 PM for quick tiffin before shopping. We ordered a couple of Mini Tiffin’s, a Sambar Vadai and a Sambar Idly. Mini Tiffin had a Masal Dosai, Vadai, five Mini Idlies, Kesari and Coffee. What more do you want in life? Everything tasted good. The standalone Sambar Idly and Sambar Vadai too tasted well. My family members loved the sambar much more than me.

Good thing about these no nonsense restaurants are that you’d be free to eat in your own way, in your comfortable position, drink how much ever sambar you want. So we got extra two sambars in spite of two of our dishes being sambar based. Total carnage. In spite of everything the damage done to the wallet was limited and the experience gratifying.

Ambience- Sufficient indoor seating is available with low maintenance. The tables were dusty and the place overall needs cleaning. Delivery preferred.

Pocket friendly- Reasonable for the quantity served.

Food- Its a budget place for regular meals.

Parcel meals have Rice, Sambar, Poriyal, Curd which were good. Fried item was onion pakoda and were not crispy and soaked in oil.

For sweet they gave a small quantity of jaggery rice which was semi liquid and was not too sweet.

Service- Quick and prompt

Rating- 3 as food taste needs improvement and place needs maintenance.

Tried this place for breakfast. As it was a bit early in the day, we had the place all to ourselves. We had idli, Pongal, masala dosa and coffee. All the dishes were hot and freshly made. The most important aspect was none of it was dripping in oil. The idlis were quite soft, the dosas were quite filling and the Pongal was light as compared to the regular ones which are made with lot of ghee or Vanaspathi. The coffee on the other hand, was average at best. The dishes are moderately priced. The service was good. Overall it was a decent experience.

They have renovated the hotel and its been a year since then. I have already been twice after the renovation. The prices are still affordable. The service is good and they are welcoming. The south indian food items are worthy of price. They are good and want to visit this place again.

An order of two plates of Pongal and vadai should not have been difficult anywhere, but it was a bad hair day for the manager at Adyar free bhavans today, which he tried to pass on to his customers. He threw my debit card at me across the counter, pointed to the cashier across the aisle and said self service, take the card machine and give to cashier and collect food yourself. When I asked him why he threw my card like that, I get the same spiel of self service without any apology. Will never go there again.

A decent budget friendly vegetarian hotel. I went for lunch with my friend on last Sunday. We ordered masala ghee roast and special dosa.

The dosa was crispy and tasty. The ghee roast was filling and they provided masala in a big bowl. They are happy to serve you more side dish if asked, nice customer service.

This is a must try hotel when you visit Adyar. It is near to Adyar bus depot and Ganapathy Ram theatre.
Shiva Prakash
Rava dosa was the only thing which tasted good here. Below average hotel which you can avoid and go to some other good places. Sangeetha for alternative.
Ananya Roy
This place was a disappointment. We ordered idli fry, paneer fried rice and paneer biriyani. Idli fry was edible but the disappointment started as soon as the rice items came. They were gross and smelling foul. We complained to the servers. They didn't budge, which was surprising. Hence, just left the food and they had no qualms to ask us to pay for the food. Definitely a bad experience.

Located on the prime area opposite to Adyar depot, this place offers quality food at a reasonable price.
Friendly staff; it's a small restaurant so don't expect too much of decors but it's nearly maintained.
Tried paper dosa and rava dosa which was really good. Starters were ok. Need to visit few more times and try the rest of the menu to give a detailed review as the menu is quite big here compared to the size of the place.
Harish
My mornings usually start by waking up after multiple alarm snoozes and rushing for office. Yet my day is incomplete if I don't have my breakfast. The dosa here is awesome. I've tried their masala dosa, rava masala dosa and ghee roast. All equally delicious.
The ghee roast is served in big conical shape with a mini dosa on top. The dosa is very crispy and is served with orange, white and green chutney and sambhar.
Other items such as paneer butter masala, Gobi Manchurian and mushroom fried rice are also good. But their dosa deserves a medal.
Their service is slow and it may take you a lot of time to place your order.

Ambiance: 3/5
Food: 4/5
Service: 2/5

Plans, sub-plans, micro-plans and finally useless plans; this is how most of my plans turn out when I decide to hangout with my husband’s friends and family. And talking about what all was planned would agitate my anger more so let me get to the review part. At last we decided to travel all the way from Besant Nagar to LB road Adyar to dine at this restaurant. Never in my dreams have I heard nor thought about dining here; only the people who frequent or live around Adyar would be familiar about the place. Guess an old food joint that has been serving for ages; located on the LB road just after the first signal on your left side. They have parking space for two wheelers alone. So location is positive only for those around Adyar.

Ambience: Average. You can’t expect ambience at Sangeetha or Saravana Bhavan; they look decent. Not a place to think about ambience they strive to provide good food.

Taste & Variety: Ok. A big list of all the South Indian, Chinese and North Indian dishes are covered so varieties shouldn’t be a query and they have South-Indian meals served even for dinner. As everyone of us were hungry we didn’t spend much time browsing through their menu; settled for Idiyapam Biriyani, Chilli Fried Idly and Meals. I didn’t taste the meals but yeah what would go wrong about that, it was good. The chilli fried idly tasted good but wasn’t crispy enough. More of vegetables than strings of idiyappam; a typical fried-rice style preparation with rice substituted by idiyappam. Though they tasted good I could sense the addition of taste-enhancers, could be any ingredient but yeah eating and experimenting so much about food I could feel something wasn’t right. Though they are priced less frequenting wouldn’t be ideal.

Quality & Quantity: The food quality (ok) as mentioned above definitely includes taste-enhancers is what I guess. The quantity (good) would be perfect for one person and well-portioned for the price they charge.

Service: They was hardly any crowd so they were fast and prompt.

Pricing: Positive. This adds to their positive; we were billed Rs. 370 INR for 6 dishes, which is pocket-friendly for sure. And the limited meals for Rs.60 is a filler.

Adyar Sree Bhavan, the residents of adyar would be familiar with this place and their food.

I love to go there and eat. My son loves to eat the Paper Roast and the Green Apple Juice shop which is super with its faulada. Got Friedrice and Paneer Butter Masala frm here! Food and service was great! Overall value for money.. And great place for quick bites...!!!!A regular here for a long time, very close to my place and its one of the best for taste and serves well when you're one a saving spree recommended for bachelors

The best to try dishes are sambar idli ,ghee roast, chole bhature, chilli parota. This is my go-to place when I lived in Besant Nagar. Used to have most of my dinners here. But please don't miss the vada they have only during mornings. Omg! After a nice walk till Bessy beach, those yummy roasted brown vadas are simply heavenly. The service is good as well.

This is my go-to place when I lived in Adyar. Used to have most of my dinners here. But please don't miss the vada they have only during mornings. Omg! After a nice walk till Bessy beach, those yummy roasted brown vadas are simply heavenly. The service is good as well. ASA you enter they promptly take your order and serve you promptly and they are polite too. You don't have to beg them to bring the bill soon either. Many hotels in Chennai should learn how to do hotel service from Adyar agree bhavan. Nothing much about the ambience and stuff. If you want good quality food at good price just walk in there. Don't waste your time at other hotels that don't care .

Decent place. Perfect for bachelor lifestyle. Food is good except for the chilli parota. Thats a disaster. Easy on the pocket also. Home delivery sucks.

Nice little place in adayar. A Boon for bachelors. very affordable and the only restaurant in the surrounding to serve meals at the night. If you are kind of the guy who loves having a full meals @ night, I would definitely recommend this place.

I have been quite a regular to this nice little place. Good to have lunch here once in a while they skip cooking at home.
Ambiance:
There is not much of an ambiance to expect here. It has a decent place with plenty of tables around. But It is not place to hang out with friends and family for a peaceful lunch/dinner though. It is a place were you come, eat, pay and leave. But that's not because they don't want to let you have a peaceful lunch, it's because it just gets too crowded, that you just will be able to eat and go. Esp. Lunch time gets very crowded. So if you still expect to have some peace time here, dinner would be safer bet. Mind you, if you are a group of 4 or 3, choose corner tables for a little privacy, else you shouldn't mind people sitting right next to you.
Food:
Now this is where place impresses. It's a pure veg place, which has wide variety of south Indian, north Indian and Chinese food to choose from. Love their parota kurma and they have a range of Chinese style kothu parotas to choose from. And they make decent faloodas. But they are best known for their south Indian meals that is served in banana leaf, is also the sole reason for the huge crowd at lunch time IMO. It is really value for money, as the quantity is large and quality is decent enough, have variety of sides and rice accompanied by - sambhar, rasam, morr Kolambu and vaththakolambu as well. Moreover they serve the meals with special Care as the servers keep making rounds to attend your needs. Also the juices are good.

Service:
The servers are really good and fast considering to crowd the face. Esp. they are really great while they serve meals. My brother used to recommend the place just because of the service they give during lunch. They are that good.

Price: quite light on your pocket. Esp. The meals! :)

What they can improve is little bit of tidying the place, other than that they serve their purpose really well.

Is it a place to visit by traveling from other end of the city? Not at all.

Is it the best place Hangout with friends/family? Not really!

Is it a place to have a good veg lunch/dinner if you happen to stay in the locality? Oh yeah!
Varsha Vijey
I was a regular at this place for the weekend lunches when i stayed in a PG in adyar.

Their meals is a big must try thing, simply delicious with value for money.
