Review Grand Sweets And Snacks - Chennai (Madras)

Ram K
Location and ambience are too good. Mostly products are like homemade only. I bought for my relations. I tasted on palguava sweet it's really good. I surely go again there and taste their sweets once more. Price wise reasonable except their thokku and powder items prices quite high
Raghunathan K
Standard, unchanging taste I have known for several decades. Except for the slightly high prices, no other regrets. New sweet, Savory, pickle and powder items getting added in tune with times is a major plus.
John VK
Grand sweets maintains its quality for many decades now. Buying sweets and snacks for local and abroad consumption has been a norm. Pls do visit and share your feedback

Not really my kind of food but my wife wanted some "muruku" and some other food items from here. A person takes your order from behind the counter, you are given a number, you pay at the cashier when your number is called and you pick up your bag with all the items. The process moves along pretty quickly - full marks for efficiency. As far as I could tell, a decent level of hygiene is maintained.
Geetha Pradeep
Our all-time go-to place to buy sweets back home. Don't miss their double decker barfi and badusha. They have awesome stuff.
Om Gan Ganapathy
Very nice taste. Athirasam taste is s awesome. In total buying products is value for money.

A regular vegetarian restaurant with sweets. It has a wide variety of Indian dishes but should go on time. Most often many items are sold out . The soups are also good here. You can also purchase food mixes pickles and other stuff here.. Has ample parking space. Good and clean!
Vibhakar Menon
The quality of the product is as per expectations. The outlet at Annanagar is maintained well, good parking space. They could make the experience a little more relaxed. They expect customers to walk in and just pick up what is on display and move out. The interaction with the staff is very cold.
julian sujendran
A vast range of quality sweets and savories. Hygenic and tasty. Price is a bit exorbitant. Added separately is GST which works out quite costly.
Harcharan P
This is really a great place and every item tastes delicious here but mostly all items are expensive
SriVidhya Ramamurthy
Love the quality of snacks. Prefer savouries here over sweets. They have whole wheat samosa which is done well. With more salt and it being properly heated, it would become a tasty, healthy snack.
Sandhya Nallarkkiniyan
Good variety of sweets and snacks. The thokkus here are very useful for someone who wants quick cooking. FYI - due to Covid, they have stopped accepting returns of things even if fresh and sealed with a bill.
Shankar Chandran
They have great snacks ..the thattai, murukku is still unbeatable even after 20 years of trying them...

Visiting on Sunday morning for buying sweets and snacks. Morning fresh stocks are available and we are buying karam & sweets. Hygiene and good for health. During entry all are sanitatised and social distance maintained inside the shop.

Best vegetarian restaurant with good quality of food and ambience. Decent place for family dinner. Kadai paneer must try.
Suriya
I went on fri noon before diwali so it was bustling with people who were busy purchasing sweets. We went to the restaurant which was on the above floor. Here it was calm. I ordered paneer manchurian, Kadai vegetables, garlic naan and masala kulcha. Taste wise everything was good. Bread was not hot otherwise it would ve been more tasty.
I ordered filter coffee but would rate it 4/5
Price will not leave a hole in your pocket. Given the location, ambience food price is nominal.
Ambiance is good.
Only drawback was service was slow. If they speed it up a bit it will be good.
Overall 4/5
Arun006
Good food. Need more items to be covered for online delivery. Most of the time many items are not available. Evening by 6:30pm they do not have items that can be delivered.
Brian Corrie
I placed an order for 4 items. Badhusha, Ribbon pakoda, masala chips and banana chips.
The zomato executive delivered 3 items, leaving the ribbon pakoda behind. He said he brought what was handed to him by the restaurant.
I called the restaurant. Instead of acknowledging their mistake they put the blame on the delivery executive. They then washed their hands off and said to take up the matter with Zomato.
They are insensitive to customer complaints.
They also don't care about placing the items in a bag. Instead, they send them loose.
They should understand that the moment they take the customer for granted will be the beginning of their downfall.

One of the best Veg. restaurant in Anna nagar. Ambiance will be very quiet and nice. Good part about the food is it won't spoil the stomach.

Place is situated in a nice quiet street off 2nd, Main Road in Anna Nagar. Inside its all barebones with sweets and savouries being showcased. Ordered there Kalakhand and must say the taste was really good. When you first see the place or the entrance, it gives the appearance of a pretty lavish-looking restaurant type, however, you may be disappointed once you enter. Anyway, their sweets are good though selection is less for a place with such capacity.
Vijayakumar Madhavan
Situated at 11th Main road, just a few meters before the Thirumangalam junction. Almost 6+ years of the sweet shop, which also has a restaurant on the first floor. I visit here to buy Thattai and Boondhi Laddu. Now a day’s getting Boondhi Laddu is a challenge as even the small shops sell Moti Laddu which is usually consumed by North Indians.

This shop sells our tradition sweets like Coconut Burfi, Maladdu, Rava Laddu and other items. The review based on Traditional Sweets and Snacks.

The follow a unique system for taking orders and delivering by giving coupons like banks, I am really puzzled and don’t understand why they are following this method.

Location - 3.5/5.0; Ambience - 3.5/5.0; Food - 4.0/5.0; Service - 3.5/5.0; VFM -4.0/5.0
Chennai Budget Foodie
The Grand Sweets have a distinct variety of sweet collection ,their sweets are one of their own with the right quantity of sweetness it just stands out. The restaurant also equally good with many traditional items on the menu

I called the restaurant prior to my visit and got a confirmation from the restaurant people rice(pacchai arisi) is available in meals. Reached the restaurant in 5 minutes and ordered meals only to be told raw rice is not available. This is at 1.30 pm.
Not sure if it was a communication gap or a smart way to bring in customers but it was a complete let down.

I hope restaurants start giving us proper response and not namesake responses.
Kavitha Rajaselvan
I have been ordering Idiyappam and kuruma from here as it is very soft and kuruma also is very tasty. What I wonder is the entire food comes in an eco-friendly bag.but to my surprise the food is parcelled in plastic bags. What is the logic behind this. This time I had mentioned that in the order instructions also but the same thing happened. They should understand that food is dangerous if parcelled in plastic bags. Outside cover can be plastic.

paratha was very oily

Good ambiance. But very noisy. You can hear all the hustle and bustle happening inside the kitchen. Not the place to go when you want a quiet lunch or dinner. Food is delicious. Ordered kulcha, kadai veg, fried rice and aloo gobi for lunch. The gravies come in large quantities. Fried rice was little undercooked. Kulcha was really nice!

We had ordered some dosa, for the 4 of us, and to our utter dismay, the masala was completely spoilt! They intact tried to mask the taste by adding some spices and chilli powder, very disappointing! Please do take care, as it is basic staple food, and we can’t go wrong with that!
Monsieur Connoisseur
Simple nice vegetarian joint with simple and tasty food. Tried the pesaratti dosa and really liked it. Ambiance is decent and this is not too heavy on the pocket.

one of my favorite shop is grand sweets still date..today you people disappointed me very badly...after checking the listing online ...ordered chandra kala 250 grams... they found that stock wasnt available with tnagar branch where they get the actual supply but i was not informed about the same..expect some courtesy and proper communication regarding it..just bcos i pay cash on delivery u cannot reduce amount and send the delivery boy lieing to him that cx was already informed.....my only concern is ...if in case u dont hold proper stock then why it is not removed from the listings??can anyone reply? on top of it when i called to enquire ...they bluntly day that they have heavy customers in queue and asking me to called back later..is this the cx service from a reputed sweet shop???if i give 100 rs less will you guys accept it?? it was my dads favorite who is actually a patient...you guys ruined my day...

I've been here multiple times for lunch and evening snacks. I'm writing this review after my first delivery from here.

Food was delivered quickly and had the same great taste as dine-in. All of the dishes ordered - Adai Avial, Special Ghee Roast, Chola Poori, Aloo Paratha and Kuzhi Paniyaram - were good. Adai Avial, as always, was a highlight. Received all the condiments in good quantities.

One issue with order was the packaging. They don't offer separate boxes for each dish. They're packed in aluminium foil and were severely mangled when they reached me (see pictures). But this isn't a big deal breaker for me since there's not really a package that can keep your Chola Poori fluffy or the Ghee Roast unbroken.

Overall, good experience.

To be honest, It is one of the best vegetarian Restaurants I’ve ever been. The ambience of this place gives you an internal satisfaction and makes you to stay a little further in. Considering the food, no words to say. Each food we order is simply extraordinary and delicious! At last, This place never disappoints us.
Smuruthi
Pathetic service and very rude staff. Never go to this restaurant. However good the food is their staff and service is horrible. If your service continues to be this bad its nothing but an insult to a brand with your history.

The vegetable stew was exceptional. The coconut milk was a tad runny, tho. The idiyappams are different from what I am used to(@Cochin), but tasty nevertheless.

I ordered Nenthiram chips and special mixture - my two favorites. They were great 👍 as always.
However, I noticed that the prices listed included GST, but in cart another GST was levied. E.g. the Nenthiram chips cost Rs. 126 after GST ( Rs. 112.72 + CGST 6% - 6.76 + SGST 6% - 6.76). But on Zomato we are charged Rs.126 +12.20 tax. I brought this to the attention of customer service and they refunded me the difference, but a week later they still haven’t corrected the prices. I emailed three times, still nothing. I called Grand Sweets, but they couldn’t care less, saying it’s Zomato’s problem, not ours. No bill was provided either. This is terrible Zomato. It is against the law to charge double GST. Skip Zomato and go straight to the store if ordering packaged items like snacks, pickles, podi etc.

Pros:
Good taste
Good ambiance
Good service
Reasonable price

Cons:
Ordered items online. Got one item wrongly. Delivery was little bit late.

Order items:
Savouries : Hand muruku and thattai - crispy and tasted good
Sweet: adhirasam - soft and felt like ghee could have been reduced a little bit.
Tiffin :
Set dosa vadakari- good
Podi masala dosa - wow
Kanchipuram idly - wow
Aapam - good
Gobi 65 - wow
Sambar idly - wow
Chole poori - good

Overall all the items tastes good. Good option for veg.
Visited in January 2018.
Restraunt is not impressive. Pretty average taste.

Sweets and snacks are the highlights.
Banana chips are available in different variety. All are excellent.
Chakli is exceptional.
Both are must try.

They use very good quality ingredients in the sweets and snacks. One can realise that after consumption.
Price is on a bit higher side but it is justified by the quality they provide.

We wanted to taste their dine restaurant in annanagar, we ordered kanchivaram idly and
Kuzhi paniyaram to start with.their kanchivaram idly is excellent with all the spiceas balanced and ghee dripping below. We had a really
good dinner.

Very nice hotel 😁. There are no words to say. It is a pure vegetarian hotel. Gobi Manchurian dry is my favourite dish. Even meals served here is too good.

A visit to Chennai is incomplete without a visit to Grand Sweets to pick up thokku, podi, murukku, badam halwa for self and other so-called friends and family who only appear out of the woodwork at mention of above goodies. Having tired ourselves out discussing the merits of onion thokku vs other sundry items we decided to have lunch at the restaurant upstairs.
Having the foresight to anticipate 'The Mother's' unspoken wish, Dad had sneaked up to get a table. While the main entrance is grand and welcoming with a fancy vilakku and flower garlands, the entry to the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. Creaking boards, dirty floors are not appetizing. Thankfully this does not extend to the restaurant itself where the few tables that were there were packed. Dad had managed to corner 3 seats next to a bristling gentleman who settled down when Amma glared at him. Talk about the battle of sexes!
the menu is the usual mix of South Indian, North Indian and 'Chinise'. We settled for gobi manchurian and mini meals as they did not have sambar rice/curd rice - sniff sniff! I must say the Gobi Manchurian ranks quite high up there. I think it takes great skill to turn that pale, hard vegetable into a fiery red soft delectable dish. The mini meals hit all the right spots with the standout being the puliyogare and the vadagam. The payasam was sweet-ish.

Now most people who have had patience to read through this (thank you Mummy, Akka and stalker in neighboring street) must be wondering why the low rating. The service sucks! Like so badly that at one point a lady manager confiscated menus from another table and brought them to us and then almost threw a ladle at the guy when he didn't serve us. The strange part was that there didn't seem to be any lack of waiters, however most of them were hovering around the few people waiting for parcels. So if you want service, do a takeaway. Another strange thing i noticed was that most of the tables were 6 seaters but occupied by 3-4 people..someone might want to look into this if they want to make some revenue.

The dish of the day - the infamous gobi manchurian and the lip-smacking gobi manchurian

Pics - the semi-eaten mini meal

The Grand Sweets - Amirtham
Food and Flavor: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5
Ambience & Parking: 3.5/5
Cost: Rs.450 inclusive of taxes for 3 people
Location: Anna Nagar

This is one of my favorite destinations for lunch that has never failed to satisfy me. A complete and tasty lunch that is good for your heart, soul and wallet. Each and every item is right on target and gives you a complete homely food experience. Their lunch thali consists of,
1. Chappathi & Side Dish
2. Dal
3. Poriyal & Fry(Gobi 65, Babycorn 65 etc..)
4. Paruppu Thovayal
5. Sambar
6. Kara Kuzhumabu or Mor Kuzhambu
7. Rasam
8. Curd, Appalam & Sweet

The rice is limited and if we ask for more, they give us one cup of rice as complimentary, but they won’t provide additional rice for a fee. The fry, poriyal, sambar, rasam, kara kuzhumbu are unlimited though. The service is bit a slow, even when the hall is just half full. Have patience and time, and you will be rewarded with a good meal. The Mor Kuzhumbu is extra ordinary, with a rich & creamy consistency and tastes heavenly. They serve Kalkandu sadam as sweet on few days. I ended up with Horlick Mysore Pak on that day. But have tasted both. It’s a sweet house, so no doubt that it’s a delicious treat to finish the meal.

They also serve Tiffins & North indian items during the day. I have tasted many of them and am delighted as always with these guys.

On the whole, a budget friendly place that gives you a tasty & homely food that is close to a fine dining restaurant. This is about Grand Sweets Amirtham restaurants. They also have a sister chain, which I have never been to.

Nestled in busy residential area of Annanagar, the Grand Sweets was choice of our team lunch.
Grand entrance with traditional lamps hanging both sides, flowers decorations around lamp when entering makes view soothing.
But your walk to restaurant on upper floor is through staircase going through storage area.
Seating area is overlooking road one side but no views on other sides. Specious seats are comfortable.
Our order was South Indian Thali, veg biryani, mini lunch. Thali was full of small bowls containing variety of vegetables, rasam, dal, curd, sweet etc.
One chapati and full bowl of rice makes thali overwhelming. But quantity of biryani and mini lunch was less. Surprisingly famous podipowder was not part of servings.
Tiffin items are available in evening so everyone has to go for meals.
Pricing was reasonable but service and customer orientation need some betterment.
Overall above average experience.

offers south indian cuisine , food is good and hygienic they make authentic chettinad dishes.
Not a good option during weekends as it is over crowded during evenings and they don't have sufficient caretakers to serve.
Manoj Kumar
Poor service. Ordered food online for delivery, some of the items were not available and got a call from Zomato who connected me to the restaurant. When I changed the items the guy from the restaurant did not know the exact price of the item I ordered and gave me 4 different prices. When I complained, he bluntly said you ordered thro Zomato, complain to them.

To add to the misery, I ordered 2 plate of idly but got only one plate
Dr_ Foodninja
AMBIENCE: 4/5
FOOD: 3.5
SERVICE: 4/5
Me and my friend were craving for a perfect lunch .
And what could be more satisfying than an southindian MEAL.
So we choose this place. The ambience was great and i could sense the keralite decor which was great.
We orderded 2 sounthindian meals which was served hot as soon as possible. The food was good enough that we got the feel of home lunch. But the menu of side dish with meals was a bit disappointing though. Overall , i say if you miss your regular home lunch go here !!
Mano
This is used to be one of the best places for authentic South Indian dishes, but what has happened over the years to the grand sweets that we used to know ?! Their service, during my recent 5-6 visits (in the span of 2 months) has steadily been declining!
Aman Ghori
If you're looking for authentic South Indian food in a hygienic atmosphere, look no further in Anna Nagar.
Meals are awesome and filling.
Service not up to mark, I guess they have their regular customers who aren't very keen on service, rather come here for the good food.
Try the lunchtime meals. .. simply yum.
Sheepm.sheeba
Again shld say best food n place for family n friends... V come ere often n enjoy the food.. They take gud care .... Pricing is gud not too high or low.....
Daffy Duck
Over hyped. I tried their restaurant at 7.30 in the evening. They have a small menu. Whatever we asked was sadly not available. So we were left with limited choices. We finally had idli sambar, dosa and filter coffee. Nothing great for chennai standards, not bad enough to crib about. I must say I had better. Since I haven't tried the sweets yet so wont comment on that. However the staff needs to be more friendly for a new comer.
Joshua Jeremiah
I had been here many times for my US trip to carry a loads of sweets and savoury. All kind of masala's were really good. A traditional southindian home made masalas and sweets and savoury. Lot of my US colleagues like these snacks.

I have been here more than a year back. My past experience was for lunch and not that great experience. After long gap yesterday I was going that way, being dinner time, decided to give a try in this restaurant. This place is easy to locate. Take right from the Mangalam medical junction when heading towards Thirumangalam. Have space to park few vehicle.

Ambiance is good with bright lighting. Sweets shop is in ground floor and restaurant is located in first floor. The service is of top notch. I ordered Idly and Podi dosai. The Idly and dosai are bigger in size accompanied with Sambar, coconut chutney, mint chutney and red chutney. Taste was good especially the sambar which is hot, thick and mouthwatering.

Price is reasonable considering the location, quantity and quality we get. Worth a visit.

Service : 5/5
Ambience : 3/5
Food : 4/5

The main reason why I visit Grand Sweets Amirtham is because of the service and the food taste, typical iyer aathu food. Excellent taste and we don't mind visiting quite often. Go for lunch than dinner its worth it..
Oman Office
A safe place to their sweets and savouries. Some of their varieties - thattai, vella cheedai, plus are outstanding. And the food there is better than their other joints - so it boils down the chef and local management. But price, it is on the higher side
Sri Ra
Tasty lunch Nothing extraordinary, but was tasty. Price slightly on the higher side. The taste was typical Tambrahm style. They could have added another sweet and soup for the price.
Aditya Ravikumar
Good for their sweets, savouries, pickles, pudis. Have tried the
Athirasam
Murrukku
Thattai
Tomato thokku
Pukilachal mix powder
Thengoral
No complaints on any of them :-)
Anusha Srinivasan
Location- it is close to the santhosh market turn(not the supermarket one)
Looks like other pure veg outlets.
My fav- ghee dosa, onion rava and samosa :)
Of course the sweets too :)
Appa's fav is the filter coffee :D

This outlet of GSS-Amirtham is closer to shanthi colony in Anna Nagar. The snacks and sweets are available in the ground floor and the restaurant is in the first floor

The restaurant do not open before 11 even though the snacks outlet may be available. This is a typical south Indian restaurant where you get south Indian, north Indian and tandoori food

The ambiance is good with nicely arranged tables, the lighting is modern and the wash area is ancient

Ordered South Indian meals - the meals has has a good spread with rice, appalam, sambar, poriyal, kottu, chapatti, dal, pickle, sweet

Food is good and reasonable. The rice was steaming hot, the sambar was traditional, potato poriyal was the stand out dish
Ruby Malik
A typical South Indian pure veg restaurant with some sweets and snacks added to the ground floor of te restaurant !! It's a pure veg restaurant !

Visited this place long back !! Apologise for the late review though !! I have been to this place twice with my friends and family !!

Ambience was apt to the South Indian feel !! Comfortable seating ,AC and good lighting !!
Talking about food ...
Have tried their ghee roast , onion rava , chola puri , meals , dum veg biryani ...
Everything was decent !! My personal fav was dum veg rice which had some ghee taste in it and was delicious!
Also have tried their samosa ,, my fav snack !
They have sweets as well , yet to try !!
Total VFM!

Overall a decent place to visit if u are looking for a veg restaurant !!

Previously i ve got their podis and instant gravies but then today craving for tht kalandha sambar (bisibellabadh) i was going thru restaurants in zomato and settled for this. The restaurant is a pucca vegetarian gumbal friendly n the interiors are simple n different from regular ones.wr they have placed their vessels infront of ganapathy statue at the entrance :)
I cannot explain the emotions tht i connect with food. The looking thru menu- deciding-waiting-meanwhile relishing in mind- and looking at it arriving.....thts the living moment i shd say 😝 so today i ordered fr the mini meals ( u get to taste the bisibellabadh curd n brinji n a small chappathi with tht spl korma n a sweet!
Fine coming to the dish it was quite a price Mini meals - 127 (with tax) but then nicely flavoured and one of the tastiest i ve had!!! Authentic south Indian meals!!!
Edit: visited plenty time after this. Amazing sambar one of the best in the city, hands down!!!
Oh ya and you should try their idiyappam n tht one helluva amazing kuruma!!! Yum yum yum!!!!
