Review Archana Restaurant - Chennai (Madras)

Black Beard
A decent restaurant in the North Usman road stretch! It's really hard to find a good restaurant in the N.usman road, from pothys corner all the way to the other end. Most of the restaurants have been close. This is the only good restaurant located in a prime place that offers really good food. Been visiting this restaurant for last 10+ years. Used to have a dim warm ambience now they changed it. About food - They have a good range of menu, south India, thali meals, north Indian dishes, sweets, chats, snacks, hot and cold beverages etc. Simply tasty and worth the money. Chilly paratha is a must try. Curd raitha was outstanding tasty. Never had such a delicious raitha ever. Their chats are a speciality. If you go in the evening or afternoon, do try their chats. Prices are fair and worth every penny. Only thing, they could improve their ambience, use warm white dim lights, better tables and chairs. It may be bit crowded in the weekends or during summer vacation as it's the only quality dine in over there. Other than that no complaints in quality of service. Quality - 5/6 Food menu - 5/6 Price - 6/6 Location - 6/6 Taste - 6/6

The place is very clean. Staff are also very good, they very head covers and gloves for cleanliness. Food is tasty too but a little expensive. It is easy to locate since it in on the main area of T Nagar. Parking could be a problem here but I am not surr about it.

Good filter coffee. Samosas they gave 2, which is minimum...could've given one and charged less. It was not fresh, reheated one.

After many years came across this shop, bought some mix Sweets and savories tasted superb as always .. Old memories..in my mind.. my mom use to get some snacks from here when I was child... As hope there is no branches as many as other sweet shop, now we have moved to other brands which is near to us..

Wow. Best veg restaurant in Chennai. What can I say.. whatever we ordered everything is delicious. Taste is talking here. Reasonable price with enough quantity. We ordered rava dosai, paratha kurma. Poori kurma. Fried rice. Gobi Manchurian. We can't stop either eating or ordering. They prepare separate kurma for paratha and poori and separate for chappathi each kurma is different taste. Servers are treating people as family. Definitely recommend to everyone especially with babies and toddlers. My 18 months old enjoyed the food.

Very nice, clean, comfortable restaurant on the main Usman Road. One of the few that serves snacks too during lunch time. Great variety. Besides usual South Indian fare, they offer cutlet, sandwich, batata vada, vada pav etc. Pretty good taste, reasonable price, good service.

Oldest sweet shop in Chennai [Madras]. Still i remember this is the first sweet shop giving advertisements in old radio channels Vivithbharathi. Genuine business people.

This is a pure vegetarian restaurant which is crowded most of the times. It is famous for the snack items . The price rates are very pocket friendly. North Indian chat items like Pani poori, Samosa , kachodi chat are very tasty , these are iconic dishes of this hotel. The sweets and savouries are very delicious and yummy. This is one of the oldest eateries in this area. It is this locality for more than three decades. The lightings and ambience is very good .

Dry jamun is a must try thing and chole bhature is just awesome

Good option for a quick bite in busy and always crowded usman road. Less crowded and AC works just fine. Renovated recently and it's thoughtfully done. Tasted only the chaat item, not sure of the tiffin items or the sweets. Table service should be improved.

Very good ambience. Two or 3 cars can be parked. Pure vegetarian restaurant. South Indian varieties - only Dosas and Idly. North Indian lots of varieties and chat items are served. We tried north Indian food. It was very tasty and quantity and quality food served. Ice cream , milk shakes and lassi available. Coffee and tea not served.

Must visit place if you love your indian mithai and snacks! :-)

Situated in the main road of TNagar but frankly speaking , they are unreasonably high priced

Coffee wasn't great
Vada was oily
Chutenys were ok
Wasroom stinking
Crews needs improvement ( just collecting order thru smart device won't suffice )

Highly competitive industry , improve your quality and reduce your price , else you may succumb to the pressure of market . Customers may soon reject you for the above reasons.

All the best !!

Our all time Favourite Restaurant in Tnagar. Been Many times. Sweets are really good. Chena Masala and Poori are My Favourites here. Good chats and Milkshakes are offered here.

This has been my usual spot when ever I go to tnagar for purchase. Being an ardent non veg lover I still prefer Archana in tnagar. Their tastes always make me visit them but this time it was very big let down. I ordered Chilly porota and bhel poori which was the wise poori I ever had. The raita served with Chilly porota was spoiled when I asked them to change they came up with we don't have any good raita everything is like this only can we give chutney or kurma which was very big let down. Next time I wont feel like stepping in.

A casual dine in place..
Breakfast..,, lunch..,, dinner.. available..
sweets & savouries are also available..
In a South special restaurant we search for good sambar n chuntey..
But both we're missing here..
Not a place if someone is searching for authentic South Indian taste dishes..
In t nagar crowdy place..,, good place to have food.. with sir conditioner & cleanliness..

Clean place in middle of clumsy shopping district with sweets and regular north items. Quick turn around on delivery to tables. and the price can be justified by the location

Not very good. Service is very poor even though it was not crowded when we went. Food was ok only.Overall need to improve service and cleanliness.

This one just got revamped into a full time restaurant come sweet shop. Food here is majorly north indian type. Quality of food is good but the rates are at the higher level.

Our orders:
=========

▪Aloo Bonda/Masala Bonda: this is just Aloo masala with besan coating. Okayish. Lesser Aloo more Bonda would be better 😑
▪Rava Panneer masala dosa: just amazing. Raha dosa is crispy and Panneer masala tasted yumm!!👌
▪Pineapple juice: asusual.
▪Muskmelon shake: this comes with ice cream and tutty fruity toppings. Tastes yumm! 👌
▪Badam Katli: kesar and badam flavours are just perfect 👌

Food: 4/5
Ambience:3/5 (could increase the AC temperature level. Felt I have been to an igloo for a sec 😕)
Service: 4/5
Vfm:3/5

Was taken in for a shock with the kind of service, food and ambience the restaurant had to offer. Utter chaos and confusion prevails in the restaurant..the waiters are not very sure about the availability of the items..very unhygenic and highly recommend to not visit the place ever!!

Date: 29.05.2017

Price: 119/-

Items: plain dosa and watermelon juice

This restaurant is situated near t nagar bus terminus. Environment is ok and the service too. Requested to give ice cubes in watermelon juice twice, but didn't get this favour from them. Dosa was just ok, nothing extraordinary. Price range is a but higher.

Been here today after the a busy shopping in T Nagar .. Even though the restaurant is in the middle of the T Nagar , it is descently maintained.. We have ordered a coffee , a pomegranate juice nd one plate vada (2 vadas).. They have provided coffee nd vada in 5 to 10 minutes but juice came little late.. They have provided vada with mint chutney .. vada was too good , it was not oily at all.. as I don't like mint chutney , asked for coconut chutney.. It was Not available so they have provided a cup of hot sambar which is too tasty... Pomegranate juice was good nd tasty but less in quantity and over priced .. Total the bill was 150 which is bit overpriced ..

When the sambhar rice melts in your mouth, you know they win your heart. Small outlet that provides great quality whether sweets or snacks or food. With a lot of pure vegetarian hotels becoming poor.in quality and high at price this place is commendable as over the years it has maintained that lovely flavor. Remember to be patient for your food and snacks cause trust me it is worth it.
Have been to this store many times now and I love their samosa/bonda. With no trace of oil, they taste super heavenly and have a very unique filling of green peas and potato cooking in a tangy minty sauce.

Their bondas too are super fluffy. The green chutney they serve is the perfect accompaniment to these. At 20/- per piece it is definitely a little on the higher side given the size of the Samosa. The bondas are still ok on pricing though. On the whole, it is somewhat justified due to the sheer location advantage.

They also have an elaborate food menu. I have tasted the same at their store in Mount Road(Near Higginbothams). It is quite good as well.

Their sweets are way too pricey though. Saw a small assorted sweet box. Should be 250g is my guess and it was priced at 175/- 😮😮😮😮

Good option for a quick snack whilst shopping.

A good place to have food after shopping. The ambience is ok. The quality and quantity of the food is for one person. Other than south indian cusine, the preparation is good.

Always make a point to visit this place every time I shop with my friend at tnagar. A small joint. You may not be able to locate this joint easily. It has a sweet shop adjoining it and a chat corner too. No other decent veg restaurant in the locality. I prefer dosa always. Biriyani ,poori ,chapathi ,parota ,idiyappam.....a lot of choices :-P .They opened another bigger branch in the adjacent road. Don't know whether it is still
operating.

Well my parents were visiting me in Chennai and we went to T. Nagar for shopping. It was evening and we were craving for some snacks. I had heard about this place so decided to check it out.. We had samosa, kachori, mirchi bajji and aloo bonda. Really liked the aloo bonda and samosa. The mirchi bajji was lacking the spiciness. Overall a really decent place.

Worst dahi puri in my life. Wanted to have some chat.

Pani puri was ok. Anyplace, I've always loved dahi puri, it usually seems to be good everywhere. But here it was highly worst

Bottomline - Had a bad experience

Went to this restaurant on a sunny day with my friend. A small restaurant with 5 to 7 tables I guess. Service was ok. We ordered mysore masal dosa, onion uthapam and a rasamulaai. dosa and uthapam taste was divine and no words to express about rasamulaai. Planning to visit this restaurant again

Needn't mention the soaring prices.
Appetising sweets, wide variety. Value for money. I liked ladoo and kaju barfi here. Gulab jamun was not good. Service is not so good. Place is clean but no wash room. Snacks item are too costly and not worth the price.

Ambience: 2.5/5
Service: 3.5/5
Food taste: 4.5/5
Verdict: Can buy parcel and try it at home..
Place s too packed..

Visited this place a week ago.. Had been with my mom around 8.45pm.
And believe me there was nothing available other than dosa and Chapati.
So we ordered dosa and Chapati.. Service was kinda ok. Food taste was extraordinary.. They use ghee fr everything. So yummy.
Ordered podi dosa & onion dosa when it taken long time I asked the server he said "wait sir veganumla " after long time it came...with one or two slice of onion then after complaint it was billed for ordinary dosa :-/ then the waiter came asked 105 when I asked for bill he said ordinary dosa price only sir but got the bill after that only.. They don't even have coconut chutney :-( the worst place to go in T Nagar.
