Review Sangeetha - Chennai

Palanikumar Manoharan
I am dining at Sangeetha after 15+ years and totally surprised they maintain same quality 👌 Manchurian fried rice - 4⭐️ Chole Bhatura was little oily. 3.5⭐️

Sangeetha Veg Restaurant is a popular eatery in Chennai that serves delicious South Indian food. The restaurant is known for its authentic taste and wide range of delicacies. Whether you are a local or a tourist, Sangeetha Veg Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who loves South Indian food. The restaurant's small space can get crowded during peak hours, which may lead to a waiting time. However, the wait is worth it as the food is exceptional. From idlis and dosas to vadas and uttapams, the restaurant's menu offers a variety of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The restaurant also serves thali meals that come with rice, sambar, rasam, vegetables, and curd. One of the highlights of Sangeetha Veg Restaurant is its coffee. The filter coffee is exceptionally good and is a must-try for anyone who visits the restaurant. The coffee is brewed using traditional South Indian methods, which gives it a unique taste and aroma. The restaurant's staff is friendly and courteous, and the service is efficient. The ambiance of the restaurant is simple yet comfortable, making it a great place for families and friends to gather and enjoy a meal together. In conclusion, Sangeetha Veg Restaurant is a great place in Chennai to have typical South Indian food with full taste and delicacies. The waiting time may be a bit long, but the food and coffee are worth the wait. If you are a food lover, Sangeetha Veg Restaurant is a must-visit when in Chennai.

I got Chilli parota today because by the time I got there, their lunchtime had already ended. You guys should really try their south and north Indian thalis.👌🏻

Friendly and helpful staff, great food served promptly. It wasn't busy, so didn't have to wait for anything. Had palak paneer and phulka with a sweet lassi. Yum!

Huge Variety of Vegetarian options, good service. Looks like the place is famous for North Indian Roti / Sabzi kind of items too. I tried the Dahi puri & a Podi Masala Dosa and both were good. The place has mosquitoes, which I guess is common in the area and but for that it was good.

Great local place. Big menu, with lots of options. Went there twice and both times it was delicious. Nice big portions, and good prices. Service was also friendly. It's busy, but the atmosphere is good. Recommended!
Sushmitha
The food was incredibly flavorful and their vada sambar was delicious. The only drawback was the crowd. The place was bustling with visitors.
Bharath Kapali
Very crowded during lunch time. Queue for washing your hands. Very compact tables and chairs for adults. However the staff helped and served really fast. They check and give veggies and sambar over lunch. The service was fast. The food was really tasty. There is no car parking and you do not get parking on this busy road.
Tejaswi
Nice place with good ambience and healthy food. Economic seating so there is sharing, but you will also get seat fast and order is also delivered fast. Tried North Indian thali and lassi which were good.

Had their breakfast combo. A mini dosai or aaloo puri, idli, pongal, vada, coffee or tea for 80/- Rupees.Taste was good and the service was quick as well. They also have mini tiffin which is 130/- Rupees, comes with masala dosai and a sweet as extras.

They are always over crowded on evening time you know obviously the taste and varieties they offer made this point different from rest of the hotels all the chutneys they serve are so tasteful that it can't be compared with other Sangeetha branches exclusively tasteful here. To get seat on busy hours is the only drawback
Laugh out Loud
I recently visited Sangeetha restaurant and the taste was mind blowing. Even though the ambience was quite congested and dirty the dishes were amazing. We ordered Fried rice and two veg meals along with a butterscotch falooda for dessert, It was amazing, the fried rice was filled with a perfect amount of different spices, the meals had many dishes and were amazing and the butterscotch falooda we ordered for dessert was absolutely mind blowing, filled with different fruits and ice creams. If you expect hygiene in restaurants you go to eat, this place is not recommended for you. I overall enjoyed the experience from this restaurant.

Stayed in chennai for 4 days nearby this restaurant, on the first day we were skeptical to dine there by looking the outer view of the place but no other options nearby. After tasting the food we were so amazed that we had breakfast, lunch, and dinner here throughout the stay for 4we tried almost all the varieties in the menu. The food is so delicious, and hygienic. Staff are very friendly. Overall places like these should be saved and encouraged where the biryani and other cuisines are taking over rapidly.

This hotel is famous for its food taste and variety. It gets crowded on weekends. The tables are arranged very close to each other. Every item on their menu, especially their sambhar is awesome. They serve piping hot pooris. U get 3 pooris per plate. One of the best in the city. The Shivalaya complex in which this hotel is located is a foodie paradise. U get yummy Pani Puri adjacent to this hotel which is a great starter before u go in. A couple of doors ahead is a fantastic Chinese place which serves awesome momos. This is a must visit place.

It's good restaurant, famous in the area for more than decade (may be even more than that). Mostly it's tough to find a seat in the evenings. Pure vegetarian and Jain food available. Mysore Masala Dosa Tasted awesome (spicy). Kal dosa was good. Sambar wasn't that great in taste. French fries was good in quantity but slightly bland, perfect as kids food. Coffee was great! Mini coffee available (less in quantity compared to normal coffe). At around 5.30pm there were lots of seats available. But after around 7pm it's normally fully filled up mostly by North Indian crowd.
Aarian Zenno
Always crowded but the taste of ghee roast with their sambar and chutneys is worth it. Great reputation and family friendly as well. Good for simple south Indian veg food. Coming here is like a routine for us, atleast once in a few months

The best part of the day i like in Chennai is breakfast. Travel around the city and the places that serve breakfast are always busy, important discussion around the table with a cup of filter coffee ☕. Got introduced to this restaurant by our driver who is also our guide for the Chennai trip. What I loved was the crispiness of the medu vada, masala dosa was delicious too and the filter coffee a must. Service was quick too. And not to forget a board that reminds you not to waste food.

The taste of the food is so good. I am from Andhra I like the taste and service of food

Was here For a quick lunch and quite happy with food quality but disappointed to see the other aspects during covid-19. They had just opened the restaurant last week only for dining and it was overcrowded with no social distancing being followed. Staffs were wearing face shields though.

Tandoori roti & butter naan was good enough, veg kadai is a must try here . Rightly Balanced recipe they follow, which may satisfy all kind of people
Sambar vada was ok

Staff behaviour : ok ( language might be a barrier if you don't understand local language)
Parking : road side at your own risk
Hygiene : just ok but can be improved .

Not a bad place for foodies and next visit can't be avoided .👍

Had order paper roast dosa , it was small but tasted well. Special coffee was a extra dark.one and sugar was given by the restaurant. What kind of service is this?
Nadeem
The quality of the food is not good as per the expectation. Earlier it was tasty but it has gone down
Renganathan Sgk
Food was good. Ambience is suitable for family. Can get busy during weekends. Finding car parking is a hassle as it is located in the main road

This is the best restaurant for south Indian foods with a touch of North Indian Spices .
Vidhuth Bohara
Visited this place few times and during late afternoon there is very very limited items like sambar vada and dosas and chapatti it is good if anyone is having light food or snacks and the price is little affordable and there is provision for air conditioner which is available in the restaurant.
Nitin
Perfect for south indian breakfast and meal. There are other cuisines like north indian and chinese available but when in south we want to try south indian food. Masala dosa was filled with such a soft and utterly delicious masala. Could taste the sweetness of ghee in it. Crispy dosa with sambar and chutney made a great start to the day.

Don't go this hotel......... Taste also to bad.. Less quantity I m complain to particular department

Was in such a hurry to catch the train, with rains and long travel we didn’t want to miss the dinner too so settled for the safe bet in Sangeetha. We decided what we were to order even before going there. So, it was Idly, Ghee Roast, Onion Uthappam and Chili Parotta.

Idly was decent, slightly rough and unmade, chutneys were good, sambar wasn’t. Ghee Roast was a disappointment, there was hardly any ghee, just looked like sprinkles of ghee here and there. Onion Uthappam was well made. Nice and crispy and full. Chilli Parotta was very good. Crispy and flavorful, good quantity too, but raitha sucked big time, it was all watery. Wanted to finish it off with a coffee as it was a hectic day but the waiter took his own sweet time to take order, then forgot the order and when we wanted to cancel it, he was more than happy to do so. No remorse at all. Even in the beginning, understanding those four items took a hell lot of time.

Great south indian restaurant..provides quality food at reasonable price... I feel the lights need to be little brighter... otherwise it's an excellent place for quick munching

My recent order was chilli parantha. I don't know if the zomato excutive got the order from a local vendor or something. Because for all my earlier orders i had received a bill from the restaurant and this time i did not receive any, also the packaging of the food and the taste deferred from the earlier orders of mine. I wasted my money on this order. I hope that you would not do such things in the future. I will any which ways will stop using zomato.

went there with my partner on her suggestions. the place is quite decent and clean dipite the fact it was pretty crowded but the food was good and for typical south indian food here in Chennai Sangeetha veg restaurants would be an authentic place to dine at. nice dosas i must say

Awesomeness overloaded !
I always prefer non-veg foods when I am out !
But this was a try cause of my vegan friend, can't say no to more sambhar .
Sambhar idly is THE BEST U CAN GET IN CHENNAI !
executives - great customer service !
Ambiance is okay !

Must try for anyone out in Egmore !
This place will even trap non-vegetarian foodies !

Keep up your service !
Thank you !

I have been here so many times for breakfast combo, it tastes amazing very much pocket friendly.
This review is about experience here when i went for dinner.
Ambience is just average, nothing extraordinary, food taste is good. service is fast.
1. Parrota kurma (4/5):- A good tasting parrota, served with curd pachadi and kurma.
2. Plain Dosa (4/5):- Just a plain simple dosa.
3.Bhel Puri (2/5):- Very average, not the best.
4. Filter coffee (5/5):- Nice thing to end your meal. one of the best coffee in the vicinity.
5. Choco lop Ice cream Sundae (5/5):- a sundae combination of chocolate, vanilla ice cream with choco sauce, bourbon biscuit and roll wafer. An okayish dessert.

Over rating:-
1. Ambience:- 2/5.
2.Taste:- 4/5
3. Price:- 5/5
4. Service:- 5/5
5. Quantity:- 5/5

It's typically budget friendly restaurant. overall a good experience.

Avoid coming here on weekend, its packed and you will find ppl staring on your plates indirectly telling you to get up with their eyes. Also a little noisy.
This place is little unhygenic, you could see waiters putting their fingers in side water glass, sometimes even of the food.
Mayank Kumar Parakh
Have been here a couple of times. The seating is comfortable , ambience is just like any other South Indian restaurant. The food tastes good. South Indian especially the variety dosa and vada are very good.

Important note :
1. Avoid going to this place on a Sunday, it seems like a chaotic and dirty place. On other days the place is quite clean.
2. Avoid drinking their regular water I’ve noted the servers put their fingers into the glass in order to hold more classes at time.

Overall a good joint but need to up their hygiene game !!!

Popped in here for lunch after looking at ratings of veg South Indian restaurants for meals..
The place was packed... We had to wait for 25 minutes to be seated...
If your looking for some peace and quiet this is definitely off limits.....

We ordered South Indian meals with sides of Ghee and Dal podi....
The meals arrived in no time...

We dug into the Roti and Cauliflower Kurma... Roti was soft and amazing but the Kurma was average as it had a tad bit too much of garam masala in it...
The sambar, rasam and kara kolambu were average...
Vegetable on the side served was cabbage and kootu also was of pumpkin... Both lacked flavour...
Sweet was payasam...

Below average meal as nothing that was served tasted good and the crowds made the meal all the more unpleasant... The person sitting opposite can barely hear what you speak...

Won’t visit again as the food was disappointing....
Winnonah
Sangeetha has the best sambar idly and the best special sambar rice. it tasted so good for a person like me who doesn’t prefer veg that much. Now I understand the reason for the crowd. The ambience wasn’t given much importance but the food tasted well.

Located diagonally opposite the new DLF commanders court apartment. Don't expect good interiors but definitely decent and good ac.

Sambar idly- couldn't take pic for this. They have the best sambar in town. The idlis soaked in sambar is so good that you just fall in love with this simple dish done so tastefully.

Chilli paneer- awesome quantity and super duper taste.

Vegetarians dream place for good food at reasonable price . Onli prob is they always are crowded except the 3 to 6 slot.

Good place in a typical and traditional south Indian style. No specific importance given to the Ambience structure. Their main focus is on how well the food taste is maintained. They are doing a fairly good job on the same.
After eating a lot of south indian food, was craving for a pav bhaji and was pleasantly surprised to have a delicious platter at sangeeta. Excellent food, quick service and the pav bhaji tasted very similar to the Mumbai version. Spicy and buttery. A bowl of cool curd wada or thayir Wadai sealed the deal. Both preparations were good plus quick service too.

Living across from this place for almost three years, I can’t believe a couple weeks back was the first time we’ve ever gone there ! I think we just end up taking the places closest to us for-granted.

Anyhow, we walked down — which was good because I’m sure we wouldn’t have had a place to park since it was day one of Diwali.

Upon entering, the first thought to cross my mind was “omg ! The Sangeetha at G. N. Chetty Road is so much better.” Having that place in mind, this Sangeetha’s ambience has room for improvement.

We found a seat and sat down while we waited for some friends to come. It was time for the evening tea.

A man from the house keeping department was walking around with a mop in one hand and a bottle of phenol in the other. He was squirting the phenol on the floor and mopping it up with a dirty looking mop — not the best way to start off the evening at a restaurant, especially when you’re sensitive to smell like me.

Anyhow, the friends arrived and we placed orders for snacks and drinks. The food was served fast enough — either the service was quick or the company was exceptional in which we didn’t realize the time.

Nothing to complain about in regard to the drinks (pineapple juice, coffee and tea) nor the snacks (banana and potato bhajji with the chutneys and sambhars. I enjoyed the coconut chutney and banana bhajji).

Food was good/ decent.
Company was wonderful.
The price was reasonable.
I would just change the ambience/ interiors a bit.

This used to be our ideal spot on sunday morning after beach visit. We used to wait for long to get the tables and order combo tiffin here as they were of a reasonable price. Lately the quality of the food has come down and the north indian food is a disappointment here.

mini lunch was all mixed up when it reached me. food was soggy after that.

Chennai has a legend when it comes to their idli and dosa. Out of the world sambar and flavorsome chutney coupled with their value for money breakfast combos has made this place a popular spot for a light snack. Truly recommend people to try their food.

So I got hit with an intense craving for dosa at night during Ramadan. There's a Sangeetha by my house so I grabbed my sister and went. Now I can make a pretty good ghee roast, but I needed one someone else made, not in my kitchen.

The place is packed, I was pretty surprised. We went on a Thursday evening and had to wait to be seated. Of course, I ordered a ghee roast. Got a soup as well.

The dosa was alright, was expecting it to be a bit more... whole... and crispy. It was accompanied by some really good tomato chutney though! Soup was a bit disappointing tbh, so we'd say stick to the Indian dishes.

The table next to us was savoring their paneer dish with naan. It definitely looked and smelled awesome.
Nirosha Parthasarathy
Close your eyes and choose any item from the menu. You would not regret your selection.
You can feel the real taste of the dish. Best place to have tiffen items.
Only one problem is that you will get confused in choosing what to order in sooo much of varieties.
Dont leave poori, dont miss dosa, dont forget to order sambar idly, dont commit sin by not tasting sambar vada and the list goes on.
If you are super hungry during noon, have south indian full meals and you will feel full just with parupu podi and ghee.. Awesome place.
What ⁉️ : Rava Dosa🌸Mini Sambar Idlis🌸Idiyappam (rice hoppers)

Dropped by this place at egmore for dinner since it was my first time here settled with some usual tiffin items. Rava dosa was was tooo good crispy and less oily just the way I like my dosa😘. The Mini Idlis doused in piping hot sambar drizzled with melted ghee on top😍"melt in the mouth" kinda dish with the usual red and white chutney , perfect match I say. The Idiyappam was fresh , soft and fluffy with a spicy veg gravy. These where a bit big than the normal ones you get in restaurants. Really worth it for the quantity and quality they provide.

💰 Range : 100 - 300

Ps: The Rava dosa here is a must try👌🏼👌🏼I also heard that they're Butter Naan and Paneer Butter Masala are really good. Will surely try them on my next visit. Most of the customers seem to be regulars or residents in that area who ordered North Indian dishes and chats here🍲🍛☕️

I visit this place once in 10 days. The food over here is amazing and the service is pretty quick and good. The food is served extremely hot. The taste of the food never changes its always the same.
Deepika Deekshi
I would always prefer this place for breakfast.
They have a combo for breakfast which has to tried atleast once.
Make your choice between dosa or poori , kichadi or pongal and coffee or tea.
Sambar idly is really good here.
Other dishes that I have tried here is masala papad ( which has always been my starter )
The rotis , naan and kulcha over here are really soft.
The side dishes are all good.
I have been eating in this place for years , so there is nothing I haven’t tried so far.
The only thing I wouldn’t recommend over here is the soup.

This Sangeetha outlet is located in the very old shivalaya building in Egmore. This restaurant is there for quite sometime here and is famous for getting overcrowded on Sunday evenings. People used to wait in long queue to get in here especially on Sunday evenings..

Ambiance : Place looks old and doesnt welcome you at first sight. Lightings are dull and the culinary used here looks shabby, especially the tumblers.

Food : I went with my family on a weekday for late lunch around 2:30 PM, group of 15 people. We were able to get seated despite the restaurant was almost full. The tables were arranged to make us seated together. We all went for North Indian / South Indian meals.
Coming to south indian meals, they give everything from sambar to rasam with limited rice serving. The serving is sufficient for a person. Rasam on the day was top notch, one of the best i have ever tasted. I could die for that taste of rasam.
North indian meals includes a variety rice, 2 sabjis, 2 rotis, 1 stuffed roti, curd rice and papad. This is kind of a steal deal and you get everything for Rs.120. Rotis were soft and well done. Overall food was good and worth the money.

Service : Staffs need to be a bit professional and need to be attentive. To get hot water from them was a big thing. The items reached the table soon and no complaints about it.

Price : Value for money if you are going here for lunch. North indian set meal is a steal deal. Avg cost Rs.120-130 per person for lunch.

I'm from delhi and really cherish south Indian food, here they have something called 'Meals' which is rich, sambar, gravy and other condiments. I have this many times before, this was relatively okay
Deepak Kothari
The Worst of the foods and Service you can find here.
Only the thing you can have here is the Breakfaat combo.
The Waiters here gives you a damn look on asking for extra sambar and Chutney.
And today when Asked for extra Sambhar with meals, they denied abruptly.
So the rating is not on one experience, have experienced the same many times.
So A big NO for the one's looking for better service and respectable food.
With Manish Bhati & Manish Kandhari.

Got food home delivered from here. On time delivery, good packing. Highlights: coffee, masala papad and panneer temptation bread toast 😍 everything tastes great!

Near to my office and it's always crowded during lunch time. Their thali is really vfm and it will make you full on your workday. The food is really good no matter what the cuisine is. Their crowd management is Also good and also their service. The only and only minus is ambiance as it's too small For the crowd. Other than that I really live this place #happy #eating

Highly recommended eatery by locals, I decided to try my luck with authentic South Indian delicacies during my recent visit to Chennai. It’s a simple outlet with basic interiors. After reading reviews from Zomato, tried their masala dosa, medu vada sambhar, filter coffee. The food was average but the filter coffee was outstanding.

This place is such a under rated restaurant l've lately been to. That is when I decided to write a bit lengthy review for this lovely place.
First and foremost... The food. It was really brilliant, I happened to have brunch the other day, though it was late to have breakfast. However, we got hot idlis and pongal pretty promptly and with brilliant taste.
Next... The service. Awesome, Prompt and friendly.
Lastly and most importantly... Cost or value to cost. This factor made my day, these days, food has become a real business. I mean a money making one. You can see a road side chat shop charging you 40 bucks for 2 samosas. In such a scenario, this place offers everything in a very decent price inclusive of taxes. You pay what you see in the menu card.

Brilliant...

Overall.. A sure suggestion to friends

Sangeetha veg restaurant in Chennai is one of the most popular vegetarian restaurants. It is a wave of relief for the north indians who are visiting chennai on vacations. I visited chennai on vacations with my family, my brother who works in chennai took us there for lunch. We tried some of their specials, and the food indeed was amazing. Though, podi idli was not available at that time, they're service is very fast. Some of the items which we had were Pineapple pit, Podi masala dhosa, Cream of tomato, Special tea , Bhel poori, Paw bhaji and a milkshake. One can definitely rely on this place for good North Indian food.

I was looking for a pure veg restaurant near my hotel Redisson Blu and my search completed at Sangeetha veg. Nice food good quality. Little expensive. Highly crowded. Need to improve on cleaning. But it was good in near by area.

Ordered cashew pulao today. Well I am happy to say that they follow cooking instructions accurately. I advised them to add less oil and also on a previous occasion I advised them to make the food more spicy or to send 2 or 3 fried chillies if possible (though I did not see it on the menu ).. They complied on both of these instances. Only feed back would be about the Raita where there were chunks of onions in it. Would have been better if the onions were finely chopped.

Been here a few times as it's near my college, the place seems to be always overflowing with people. The service is good and they are able to control the crowd though the place is quite small. Full meals and mini meals are always great here, bread varieties are equally good. Please don't risk with sandwiches. But there seems to be an extra price for pickle which I found it to be very absurd. Otherwise its great for south Indian meals :)
