Review Maplai - Chennai

Nithyalakshmi Sundar
Reaching there: Sterling road is one the busiest roads in Chennai, and a restaurant like this will not go unnoticed. This is a one way and you might want to slow down your vehicle in the beginning of the road. Very close to Loyola college and easy to find on google maps. Ambience: As soon as I entered all I noticed was the interiors. They have good wood work done. The restaurant is spacious and has two floors, the ground and the first. The tables are well apart from each other, so won't feel that the place is cluttered. The AC is really good which is important in a city like chennai and when you are going to be eating spicy food. Service: The people at the restaurant are friendly and ask for suggestions as to what can be improved. With a really long menu like theirs, they help out people chose their dishes according to the liking, taste and spice level Food: Best South Indian dishes filled with flavours. The restaurant sources their meat and seafood from vendors to make sure the meat the customers eat is healthy. You will also not find seafood priced as low as theirs anywhere in the city. Forget fish, but the minute you think of prawns of crab, it would be priced anywhere between Rs 300 to Rs 600. What I loved about the restaurant was they said "We won't feed the customers what we wouldn't feed our family". Every single item on their menu is customized according to the customers even when it is extremely crowded.

Food was typical Chennai style. Very good service and attention to customer questions. Was worth the wait and people can try once. Not a huge seating area so waiting time can be more during busy days.

Good. All the dishes were delicious except few. Mutton kola was so good. Both chicken and Mutton Briyani was good. The unlimited non veg thali was okayish coz it's too costly. Prawn we ordered was not nice, it was half cooked. Drinkshakes were so yummy. Gulkand shake was awesome. They have changed the menu. Many Dishes were not there in the menu like before. The service was excellent. Overall a good place to have a South Indian cuisine.

The food is so good here. If you want to try authentic south indian food this place can be the best one. Of all the dishes we have ordered Karuvae Pillai milagu chicken dry was an awesome one it was so spicy but still the best dish we had there. Briyani is also good but not that great. Nice restaurant!!!

You get extremely flavorful, delicious food here - hands down one of the best thaali's I've had in the city. Non veg options are a plenty, so if you're really confused just get the biriyani or the thaali. Super reasonably priced too.

the food sered here was really good and authentic. we tried : **karuveppillai chicken (this was like a semi shredded chicken with very unique flavours) **naatu kozhi fry **chicken thalassery biryani (biryani was good) **rice **chettinad chicken gravy(i have had a better chicken then this, this could have been a bit better) **chicken kothu parotha (i really liked it as it was my first time trying a kotthu parotha , its like a shredded parota with chicken and egg stir-fried in it)

We had our friends meet here... They were able to accommodate us immediately... The ambience was good initially and we were seated in the front area... We had Nandu Rasam and it was spicy for our palate.. The starters were all extremely good... The Scotch eggs and Chicken ka thakkali were the crowd favourite... With such high expectations we went on to our main course.. The Mutton chukka dosai and coin barotta were really good... The chicken dosai and biriyani was okay... My friend wanted to try the Kal dosai and it was excellent... Then we thought we would try the desert sampler... The coconut souffle and the Jack fruit desert were really good... Others were good too... All the servers were given aliases and they were courteous and helpful... The only thing which was uncomfortable was that there weren't any AC units in the front area and halfway through out meal were sweating... The small ones started getting uncomfortable too... This probably was an issue with only the front area but this needs to be addressed too as it completely spoils the dining experience for anyone seated there... The bottom line is that they serve good food and is definitely a must try for Chennaites...

Absolutely loved my experience here. They serve amazing authentic south Indian food. Every dish that I tried was absolutely delicious and honestly I could'nt find any fault with it. Must try dishes are - mutton kair katti kola which is basically mutton mince and variety of spices made into a ball and deep fried. Prawns, vanjaram fish fry were also really good. Service and cost is also good and reasonable.

Food and Flavour: 4.5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambience & Parking: 4/5 Have been hearing about this restaurant for a while, finally got a chance this weekend to taste it. It is on the corner of a junction, so it is really tricky, for the first timers, to get into it. A surprise to all of us was the name tags of the waiters. It was all named after blockbuster tamil movies. Our guy was named Pokkiri… :D We started with Vazhapoo Kola Urundai. To be precise, I can eat that forever. We then ordered Veg Thali and Veg Biryani Virundhu (Note: Both are unlimited). It was a hard choice, as both were extremely good. I have never seen a place serving unlimited biryani on a Thali. The Veg Thali starts with 1. Soup, Panagam and Neer Moor 2. A traditional main course served with parotta and vadagam (Sambar was too good) 3. Payasam and Falooda ice cream A special mention about the vadagam, it comes with mayonnaise. The combination was out of the world. The Biryani Virundhu was a simple straight forward menu, 1. Gobi 65 2. Parotta & side dish 3. Thalassery Biryani & side dish They could have added a dessert to this Thali, to make it complete. We still gave a try and asked them, and they were generous to serve us with Falooda ice cream. I have never tasted this variety biryani till now, but I really enjoyed it (Note: You can mention the spice level so that the waiter would adjust the masala and the rice ratio). On the whole, a truly Maplai experience and I would definitely go back .

I would say a 'must try' place. A decent restuarant with nice south indian and a light kerala touch in some dishes. Nanari sarbath, maplai chicken 65, nandu rasam were awesome. Nice ambient and at a very prime location, just front gate junction of Loyolla college. You will have vallet parking for easy convenience.

My Favorite (and Must-Try) here are Kola Urundai and All Kinds of Biryani. Everything is good here.

This place won my heart! A little expensive for a frugal person like me, but who doesn’t like a lil indulgence?
Located on Nungambakkam, Maplai is a fine dining restaurant with ample parking space and a pleasant ambience. The staff here is very courteous and helped us with the menu as it was our first visit. All the dishes we tried were good but the show stopper was Guntur Prawns! It was excellent! Highly recommend it!
Kudos to the management! Hope they maintain the taste; it was truly a delight to my taste buds🤡
PS: the biriyani here has won many awards! Just saying 🤓

Worst service by this place. The guy who was taking the order din even have courtesy and manners. We were served pepper rasam as soup in non veg thali. Every pie spent here is a big waste. Over smart people.
Ankita Deokar
The opening hours of the hotel are given as 12:00, they made us wait for 20 minutes outside the main gate. Wherein they could see that people are standing outside but still they behaved as if they did not see. Once we entered most of the items were missing. I would suggest either they should atleast mention it on Zomato or they should keep it shut.
Varshin Hariharan
The food was good .

The food was exceptionally good and Linga’s service was really great.

This place is my family favorite for past 2 years... we have visited at least 5 times in last 15 months.. The food is always been good as they have good variety of variant dishes in veg ,non veg. But this time when we went around 10 people for Sunday lunch we find service very slow as sloth.we are really really disappointed with the service.. There was only 1 person to handle the whole first floor section.. which made us to wait for giving order for 20 to 30 mins..

Food - 4/5

Service- 1/5

Value money- 3/5
Jude
Looking at the menu and the rating, I went there. Most of the dishes were not available. I had executive thali, the curries were ok only. The same rate we get with meat in non veg thali on other restaurant. Here we get only the curry. The parotta in the thali was good. Otherwise food was ok. No boneless chicken, sura puttu, brain, nethili were available wen I asked. I was fed up and ordered thali.i ordered mutton gravy. It was served with hair in it. I was little upset with my experience with the unavailability of my favorite dishes for which I actually chose to go. Slow service also. I don't prefer to get back.
The Walking Glutton
Ambience - 7/10
FnB Service - 5/10
Food - 3/10

You will not love the food. All that I was looking for was to have a good thali but this was ultimate disappointment. Bad food, trust me real bad taste...

Food was spicy... But different taste.. and very decent price... Service was good.... And polite staff...
Overall good........................................

We went to this place on a a sunday afternoon and the place had a few tables empty

We decided to sit on a table to one side, but the waiter cribbed about it and told us that he wouldn't be able to serve us water over there since it was far away. Then a couple of locals sat at the same place and we found that they were given proper service

The food wasn't very delicious, and the ambience was plain.

While we were leaving the waiter simply rushed us out and remarked that we took too long to finish which was pretty rude

Overall service was not good and we found a lot of discrimination between local people and others.
PragaDeesh Sudarsanam
Items listed in the menu were not available
Understaffed and hence service was slow
Food too oily
Overpriced
Ambience was not that great
They can remove those one or two veg items from the menu and make it a proper non-veg only hotel

Raja Sekar
Starters are good. Main course and desserts are average. We had chicken and mutton Biriyani. Both biriyani taste wasn't great due to less salt and spice. Desserts are over priced and not that tasty esp. Jigarthanda isn't a good choice here.
Anne Mohan
Came with expectation!
Mutton Briyani was good other Food items wasn't as good as other branch ! And lack of service ! ! ! !
Disappointed much.

Stopped in for lunch. Food was very good but a bit costly. Very good service. Enjoyed the meal. Worth the visit. Will surely recommend 😁😁😁

Heard about maplai restaurant through one of my friend & was told that it would be very busy during weekends. So planned for a weekday to visit and went on a Tuesday.

The food was cooked and served well. We ordered Mutton Chukka - spicy and cooked well, Prawn egg podimas - only egg was there with lots of onion & prawn was not visible or tastable (not happy with that, it costed 150), Ambur chicken briyani - taste was good it's a regular briyani, finally ordered Panagam & Rose Milk - that alone made me to write a review on them. Rose milk was at it's best. Panagam was equally good.

Initially, we asked for soup by reading to the zomato menu (menu here is not updated) they don't serve soup now. We were informed that soup is available only with thali.

Will definitely munch out their other dishes next time.
Tried maplai during Chennai visit . Quite a decent ambience coming to the food the food is tasty with exception to certain dishes . Tried the tomato jeeraga soup which is a tomato sauce soup with extra sugar added to it .. the kovai podi paniyaram was yummy as well as chicken ka thakali but again the set back came from another dish butter fried chicken which was bland ...🤨the kozhi chettinad as well as the Mutta kuzhambe went well with the soft tiny coin porotta . Did try the rose milk and panagam..... value for money and tasty food with some exceptional dishes 🤔

This is like my go to place for yummy and spicy food. My fav would be super spicy andhra chicken, chicken lollipop, Madurai mutton biryani, mutton kola, chicken ka thakkali... id go back and get the same dishes and have. Never get bored of them. Friendly staffs.. Best place if u want to have some South Indian spicy food.
Vaibhav Kashyap
Extremely tasty food!
The waiting could be long though if you are going on weekends. I'd suggest give a call beforehand.
Service is a bit slow as well, but, it's a crowded place!!

Do try the starters and ask for recommendations from servers :)

The best of South Indian food is here. It's a great place for casual lunch/dinner. They've lot of variety in the Tamil, Andhra and Kerala cuisine. I love to have paneer and mushrooms cooked in kerala style. They go best with garlic naan or coin parota. The best part of my meals in Maplai is the podi rice. They've best podis and the ghee rice. It tastes yummiest.

First time to the Nungambakkam branch. I am a vegetarian but still visit this restaurant. The food task authentic and good. The veg dish spread is less in that at times there are some dishes not available. I am not sure the hotel want to discourage pure vegetarian to their restaurant. The signature dishes like valazpu urundai and podi paniyaram are good. The desert option are very less. Most of the items from the card is not available. Recommended the hotel to remove the frequent unavailable dish from menu and update with new dishes.

Went here with very high hopes .ordered two non veg thali.somehow the entire thali tasted off..soup was terrible..it was some sort of clear soup,..the saving grace was a delicious and crispy porotta.individual taste of the accompanying curries were ok..as a whole it was not going well at all.
We have been to the neelangarai branch and we had such awesome food there..this was no match..
Staff however are very polite and prompt. You feel very welcome here all thanks to the efficiency of the staff..too bad the food didn't turn out to be as pleasant..
Sarath Garimella
I had been here before too, but this visit.. I am not satisfied with the taste over here. The Ambience is maintained well but Service here is top notch.. but coming to the food, we ordered their special Vaghapoo vurundu, biryani meal, chicken chintamani and a mutton starter and Jigarthanda. Except the jigarthanda, all the other tastes are below average... personally me, not at all satisfied with the food, but for their service it’s 3.

Situated at the turning. Has very less parking space. Can park on the road even for which the competition is quite high. Ambience is mediocre.
Ordered Mutton idiyappam biryani and prawn podimas.
Mutton idiyappam biryani tasted brilliant and quantity was also good.
Prawn podimas quantity less. Couldn't find any prawns. But tasted good.
Taste wise this really impressed me. Cost though above average worth the taste. Would go again to try other varieties.
Sharathravi001
Would strictly advice you to try their spl dishes rather than usual dishes which you taste in most of the restaurant, it would be a different taste for your taste buds and you can enjoy it. Ask the captain to recommend for their specialities. One advice for maplai is to make sure crab dishes are available all the time.

This is located on the main road and due to valet parking it's easy to take four wheeler .They have renovated the ambiance with new paintings. It is totally based on South Indian theme . The staff is very friendly and they are quick to take orders as well as they serve it fast . The food is very delicious and even though they are.located in the heart of the city with good ambiance the prices are very less. Definitely a good place to hang out with friends and family and taste some authentic south Indian food. The staff themselves will suggest some good signature dishes and it's worth a try. The spices are properly used . They also provided complimentary papad with some mayonnaise to munch before the food arrives

Close to Loyola college, this restaurant is one of my favorite for their biryani and service. their coin parotta is great too, they have varieties of biryani starting from Madurai Biryani. great ambiance as well.
Arthi
Biriyani was really good but the quality was very very less and the quantity of prawn was so less and it was over priced for sucha quantity .
Madhu Sudhan
I used to love this place for its different and palatable taste of dishes and for a buddy called king kong who serves... So I visited this week again with my last memories and taste on my tongue... It was a disaster! Taste.. presentation & specifically the service.. pathetic! & For the cost! It doesn't deserve... U lost that old charm Maplai... I'll never visit u again!
Ramkrushna Rahul
This place is good treat for non veg. Unfortunately, I was supposed to have Veg and fortunately veg was really good. I still can't forget the tast of vaazha poo kola urundai. A suggestion is that add more veg items. I'm yet to try non veg

So we happened to be here for dinner after our religious visit at kapaleshear temple. What we happened to experience was that food was okay but not worth visiting again. Apams u could totally skip as they were just not fluffy enough. Some of the mocktails were good to try like rose milk and jaggery drink.. Fish gravy, mutton colas and prawns were ordered..along with curd rice and jeera rice... mutton colas seemed to be their speciality but besides those nohing could b worth mentioning here in detail. Thanks anyways.

The food was really good. The dishes were amazing and flavourful. There are plenty of options available.
The staff were really hospitable and courteous. Mr. Linga was extremely friendly and professional.
We had a wonderful experience. I'll definitely recommend others to visit the restaurant to taste the wonderful flavours of South India.
Rajesh
Ambiance is very good and food Taste is good. The staff were very good and respectful. The only problem is the quantity is very less even for one person

When a friend came to visit Chennai and wanted to try some southern flavours we visited Maplai . Located in nungampkkam great thing valet parking service was prompt. As we seated ,noticed table cloth was not cleaned had so many stains and oil. So hygein factor is not taken care of so is also the case of place to wash hands/ restroom .
But since we ordered already had to finish the signature maplai mutton chukka, mutton chukka desi, coin barotta, mushroom chettinad and tomato pappu (we really liked) plus nannri sarbat and maplai rose milk in drinks .
Food wss good but hygein needs to be maintained.

nice South India food collectively at one place. We 8 people went and We where well received by Mr.Lingaa he serviced us nicely took time and explained about each dish and was quick , We ordered paneer ka thakali , mushroom ularthiyathu, chinthamani chicken and kari katti kola for starter and the best was kari katti kola . then ordered Mapalai veg and non veg thali , was very nice and finally their rose milk . Overall we loved everything about this place ambiance, service and food .

We were the last to order on a Sunday night after 10pm. The food was brought to us quick and our overall experience was good . Special mention to Mr.Linga for his service and politeness ☺️

We came to this place with a lot of expectations all the way from OMR. Barring starters, everything was ordinary, for a restaurant that claims authentic South Indian delicacies. Biryani was flavorless and mild. Gravies given for the meals, was plain and bland with no flavor. Reason given was, this is the gravy they give for meals and we need to order a la carte for separate gravies. They did make an effort to give us a better gravy later by adding more spices. But it was ok, it great. Overall, a very okayish experience, not worth the effort of getting all the way here for good food

Located in Nungambakam, close to Loyola college right opposite Mexican Griller restaurant. This place has some great Biryani and varieties of Biryani. They have a first floor as well and neatly decorated Ambiance. Good amount of Car parking space and kind staff members.
Adoksh Shastry
While the table booking option on Zomato didn’t quite work out, they did entertain a walk-in and the food was quite special! Great boneless chicken biryani and the Super Spicy Andhra Chilli Chicken was a stand out! Also try the Rose Sherbat which goes surprisingly well with their Biryani!

Had a great time at the restaurant..amazing authentic food.....special mention to Mr lingaa and bashah for their hospitality.strongly recommended when in Chennai

I liked the meen chutty curry which was awesome.. and Lingaa provided a very good service for us. Worth coming with family and friends.

Awesome experience

Great food and service. Lingaa the waiter service was great
The meals there is tasty and a desire to anyone who loves food. The lassi and chicken 65 is good

Lovely night with a friend, we decided to go to this authentic food joint.
The chicken kothu parota was one of the best I have ever tasted, the mutton briyani was okayish but the guntur prawns stole the show... love love loved the food...

Cons: Pricey!!!
Sriciti
Mutton biriyani and kola urundai where great, curry dosa was also very good, very happy with whatever we had and lingaa was exellent to us, made us feel comfortable and even played a song request.
It was not a wow experience. Since it was my 3 rd vist in past one year (last two visits were fnds n fly treat). Always fails to impress me. Everything was okish not up to the mark.nothing great about ambience n food... Ordered the non veg meals n veg meals.. Eveydishes were served chill, nothing attracted me..but i feel it wasn't authentic . overpriced and starters were not really welcoming. Tasted vazhai poo kola urudai, paneer pepper fry, was tangy , tasted like having curd cubes, paneer ka thali .better like machurian twist , fish fry .. Okish , spicy chicken fry. Nothing SPL in it,

Best place to have all the local favorites of South India collectively at one place. We had naatu kozhi egg drop soup and kokkarako lollypop for starter. Appam and Malabar parotta with chicken stew and Kari Chukka dosai and finally their famous rose milk and lemon soda. Except the lollypop everything else was awesome, lollypop was not upto the mark it had a little bit of raw smell and flavour. Kari Chukka dosai is the one thing you should never miss here, even the thought of it makes me drool the gravy that was served with it was well balanced and went well with the dosai. We were serviced by Mr.Lingaa, he took time to explain us about the dishes and all the staffs were courteous. Overall we loved everything about this place ambiance, service and food. This place is worth spending money on.

Maplai is very highly recommended by locals and also social media for Chettinad food. The restaurant has a very homely ambience with small rooms in every corner.

What we ordered:

:Rose Milk - one of the best I have had. It helped to cut down the spiciness of the meal very nicely

:Kozhi Chettinad Chicken : the curry was too peppery which was not that bad but the meat lacked flavor and not that well cooked

:Chettinad Urulai - the potatoes tasted good but the curry lacked flavor

:Coin Parotta : average. I have definitely had better

The service too was little slow and servers were confused and served us wrong dish once. I am sure it was an off day as the reviews are much better than the experience I had
Preethi
Good food, good ambience and courteous service by the staff and Mr. Linga who served us was very warm and welcoming.... Keep continuing this grt work....
S.Hariharan Billy
The food was very tasty Esp the muttom kola
Eventhough it didn't match the authentic madurai taste, it was nearly the same taste
Would surely visit if I want to taste some authentic madurai non veg foods
Kraysha
Awesome place to be. Though price is on a higher side, taste is on a higher side too. Nice wall drawings and good ambience. Loved it . Their nethli fry was extra ordinary
Ajay Krishnan
This place has decent ambience and peaceful!
The service is great, lingaa who served us is well mannered.
Food tastes like home and a must try for south indian food lovers!
Bhuvan
A place with a good ambience and good food.

Firstly they have a valet parking here and the staff here are quite courteous.

The food is of great taste & variety and quality is top notch. Its a must try experience.

Next is the ambience which is quite simple still elegant. The table decorations as cutlery placements as elegant too.

This is my experience, actually my friend had to wait for me for some time, on seeing they also provided her a papad snack, which may be simple but shows their care towards their customers.

(For Veg ) : The only draw back is the Veg biriyani was a quite sweet and gravy component is little less.

Otherwise if you are a chettiand cuisine lover, this is a must try place.

My Picks :

1. Must try : Vazha poo kozhai urundai and Panagam.
2. Starter : Crispy Guntur corn.
3. Mains : Any Biryani on the carte.

After a long time we had lunch at Maplai today and it was quite disappointing. The quality of food has come down very much from what we had around 2-3 years ago. We had Maplai non-vegetarian thali, Mutton biryani & veg biryani virundu.

The chicken & mutton curries served with meals had very watery gravy and tasted quite similar. The single piece of mutton & chicken that came with curries were quite bland. I managed with rasam & mixed vegetable side dish. Asked for sambar (which is not part of thali) but that too was tasteless. Sweet Pongal that is part of meals too was below average. Earlier thali was served with two / three refreshing drinks. Overall it was very disappointing experience.

Not sure if the food was bad just today or the quality has come down over the period of time.
Kartik Natarajan
V good food. Especially for non vegetarian lovers.
Had the fish fry which was a good starter. The mutton based dosa(chukka) was equally good. What was really the best part was the vazha poo starter..it is available in mutton. The veg biryani was average. special thanks to Mr Linga who was really helpful in suggesting the food.
Will definitely visit again
Raj Kumar
Excellent food, service, ambience. Especially the south Indian foods. Linga explained well about the recipe before we order the food.
Looking forward to come again soon.

The ambience is good. The biriyani is great and they have some awesome starters. If you are a fan of South Indian food, just go and have a try.

A must visit whenever I cross sterling road. Value for money food and that too with high standards. The menu is well spread to satisfy all. Do drop in to taste their south indian foods.

Came here for lunch on a Sunday. Ordered Thalassery Briyani first time and it couldn’t taste any better! :’) I loved every single rice of it! 😍 Starters were delightful. Lingaa served us and he was really polite. #TummyHappy 😄

Pleasant ambience and awesome food. We went to the Nungambakkam branch and it was our second time here. We were waited by Mr. Lingaa. He was very polite and courteous. Always love the dining experience here.

Good food, right ambience and great service.
Would definitely visit again.

Truly this place makes you want to come again and again. We already a fan of the ECR outlet. And now nungambakkam too!

Only Maplai comes to mind when we think of lunch when we are outside now. Having come nungambakkam side, we decided to have it maplai there.

Unlike ECR, even though we arrived at 2.00pm we were luckily immediately seated.

The flip side to this was , what we really came on craving for , was all over- the ambur chicken biryani. But we were offered chicken 65 biryani. With a heavy heart we agreed to go for it.

And what a delightfully pleasant surprise it was!!! We absolutely loved it! The fried chicken with biryani rice Ambur style was truly amazing. So good we may even ask for it specially next time.

And as usual , nothing beats their rose milk and nannari sharbhat soda! Top it up with Zomato gold and your in for a happy day!

Great going maplai!

A simple order this time - A Mutton Biriyani Combo
a good value for money deal with juicy and spicy chicken pieces , tasty curry and nice potion of mutton biriyani cooked in southern style. Packed very well and food was hot when delivered.
definitely worth a try for weekday lunch box.

Pathetic food . Tasteless. Ghee in all items . People who are allergic to butter and ghee wow not be able to eat anything . A waste of money.

Went for a week day lunch with family. Ordered maplais chicken 65, guntur prawns, non-veg thali, meen chatti curry & rice. Non-veg thali was decent. Both the starters were good but couldn’t find anything special or unique with maplais chicken 65. The curry was the best of what we ordered. Overall a very good choice for south indian cuisine.
Food - 4.5/5, Service - 4/5, Ambience - 4/5

Awesome regional food. I had confusion between maplai thali and biryani. Lingaa who was serving helped me in ordering based on my requirements. He was very good and service was great. It is a must visit if you are in Chennai.

Believing the reviews on zomato, ordered first time chicken items. But heavily disappointed due to the worst quality of chicken they provided. Am 100% sure that chicken is stocked old and frozen. Looks like the restaurant never cared about providing quality food for the higher amount they are charging. Thrown the complete chicken in garbage after trying to find something good out of the worst. Too bad Maplai. Please concentrate on quality keeping also in mind that you are charging considerably higher than others in the market. Everyone please think twice before ordering here.

Hi I have been to the Sterling avenue restaurant and I was very impressed, so I decided to go again I came to know they have an another place in Kilpiuk and went there last Sunday, and had a look at the lunch menu and wanted to try the thalis which was in offer. But I and my family was very disappointed with the food as well the service. I have recommended others but I regret now...

What a wonderful place !!!! The food was tasty, really enjoyed some dishes that were recommended. The person who attended to our table was Mr.
Alaudian . A very cordial person, cheerful ... He recommended a lot of dishes to try, food was served on time and pipping hot. Overall great experience ... Would definitely love to go back !!!!!
LOVELY
vaazhapoo kola urundai, and a paneer starter (I can’t seem to remember which paneer starter we had). The starters were okay. Nothing out of the ordinary. We then chose ‘Maplai veg biriyani virundhu’ for the main course. The thali was good and the quantity was generous. Almost all the items tasted good. We finished the meal with dessert **chicken thalassery biryani (biryani was good) **rice **chettinad chicken gravy(i have had a better chicken then this, this could have been a bit better)

Ambience are at its best
If you want to try authentic Chettinad cuisine this is the best place I recommend. Must try kola urundai and mutton fry.

We had our dinner at this place with a gang of 6 people (Abdul Subhan) . Limited menu ( we were literally forced to order the items available at their place ) no it's not weekend, it's Tuesday night around 8p.m they had Only few items that are countable ( then why do they serve us with menu ) it takes 30mins for a lemon soda 😑we were disappointed.Requesting you not to lose customers.. hope my next visit might be good
Pros:
Easy place to locate.
Clean and tidy place .
*Food was okay not that good though*

Crowded and was made to wait for 30 mins. Had Exec NV thali & Vanjiram fish fry. Nothing special for the money they charge. Fish fry was not cooked properly. Despite raising complaint, no correction was made - nor cancelled.
Not worth it.

Quick Review - Ordered 2 mutton biryani and I was suggested to go for the special mutton by the waiter so decided to go for it. The special mutton is a bit price higher and comes with seeraga samba rice, the mutton pieces were well cooked it was soft and the biryani has a unique flavour it tasted very nice even without any sides.
As they say maplai biryani is surely one of the best in chennai.

Service 5.0
Ambience 5.0
Food 5.0

The pieces in the dishes containing chicken were like bottom part of the chicken leg. We were wondering where the other good meaty parts went. Next time we need to figure that out and order that dish!!

We were waited by Mr. Lingaa and Ghajini . The staff is very polite and courteous. They explained each dish to us . We had a veg executive thaali, some dish made from banana flower and rose lassi . The banana flower and thaali were amazing . Rose lassi was very heavy to have with the thaali . My friends had some non veg dishes and were impressed by those . The 4/5 rating is due to the fact that there are very less vegetarian options in the menu.

It’s spicy and that’s good for me but their biryani is so totally not worth it. I mean the meat pieces they use are not good but other dishes are fine.

This restaurant is unique and having limited cuisines but yet tasty dishes.

Ordered the following and everything were great.

Chicken thalaserry biryani
Chicken gravy
Coin barotta
Fish fry
Mutton chukka

But they were mainly promoting the Thali style combos but they never have it. When enquired, it should be pre ordered and a minimum order of 20. We are coming to a restaurant mainly based on their menu and rating, but the main dishes itself is not the part of menu and available only as a catering service means then it is too bad. It is too disappointing...

We are coming to take food from restaurant not to order from a caterer.

If you're someone who loves authentic south Indian cuisine, this is the perfect place for you.Table reservations are recommended as they are quiet crowded almost everytime.

We tried the lollipop chicken for starters. It wasn't like the usual chicken lollipop.Had a subtle touch of garlic and it was like a semi gravy

For main course we had the ambur chicken biriyani and thalssery chicken biriyani.Since I am not a fan of coconut oil,I kinda felt the kerala styled biriyani was a bit over powering

For desserts we had the brownie sundae and jigirthanda. The brownie sundae was absolutely delish.

Mr.Lingaa served us.He was friendly and polite.
